They’d been able to keep up a good lead on the others, but eventually the abomination and his army caught up. Just like his father, Deacon pursued relentlessly until he got his way. Shaking Cyrus awake, Alaine hops out of their shared bed and quickly dresses. “Grab him,” she motions to their sleeping son, “we’ll slip out the back.”

In a flash, they were out of there as Alaine made a full sprint toward the car with Cyrus lagging behind with Adrian. However, she barely reaches the the door handle when she realizes it was too late as Jared was leaning against their car waiting for them. “Don’t do this, Jared. Just let us go,” she begs, “she was always going to get him killed. You have to know that this is for the best.”

“Maybe, but that’s not for you to decide, Alaine,” Jared argues, switching his gaze to Cyrus as he addresses his own father, “it’s not for you to decide either. Adrian chose her. So this is done.”

“Jared---” Cyrus starts, but is quickly interrupted.

“I said this is done. Now get in the car. Both of you. Don’t make this more difficult than it needs to be.”

Looking away from Jared, she shares a knowing look with Cyrus. They could try to make a run for it, but there was no out running a hybrid. It was over, they had failed and they both knew it. With a tearful gaze, she takes a breath before complying.

Upon their return to McKinley, Alaine realizes with horror that Seph was there waiting for his return. She had thought they’d have a little more time to figure things out, but the witch-bitch was already back home from her kingdom as part of the welcoming commitee. 

Leaping out of the car as her son made a beeline straight for her, Alaine sprints after him calling out to him, “Adrian, don’t!”

It was too late though. Despite the warnings from the she-devil, he had made his choice as the two of them collided sending a roaring thunder through the area. A familiar heart break ached in her chest as she turned to Cyrus with wide, teary eyes. “No, no, no!” she breathes out in a panic, making a run for him but before she could reach him, he collapsed motionless and in his place stood Hades.

“No! You can’t do this. We had a deal!”

“ that part of our deal is over.” He informs her with a cold, cruel look in his eyes. 

“I did everything you wanted!” She hollers at him through her tears, “it was YOU who failed to uphold your end!” In the blink of an eye though, he was gone again, leaving her to scream into the abyss. “Get back here you cowardly son of a bitch!” Keeping on like that until her voice hurt, she eventually collapses beside Cyrus, stroking his cold face as devastation overtook. “I’m so sorry, my love,” she murmurs through her tears, “I’m so sorry.”

Her grief turning to anger as she heard his voice, Alaine rose from the ground marching over to where Deacon stood. He’d pursued them relentlessly across state. If it hadn’t been for him, the deal would have held and Cyrus would still be with her. Just like his damn father, he managed to ruin everything and Adrian was in danger again. 

“You!” She hollers, cracking him right across the face hard enough to send him stumbling back a few feet, “this is your fault! You couldn’t just let it be! Boy, are you your father’s son, you’ll stop at nothing to make everyone as miserable as you are.” The commotion had drawn Seph’s attention, to which Alaine whirls around on her instead, “this is just as much your fault, if not more! If you had just let him be, we’d never be in this position in the first place. You can scare me with your little tricks all you’d like but your selfishness will get him killed, you just wait, you little---”

"That’s enough!” Adrian interrupts, drawing her attention away from the both of them. The look he gave her, it was like a knife twisting in her gut. “You’ve done enough, this is fucking done, alright? I’m not tolerating it anymore, so you’d better wisen up. I make my own choices. Not you, not Dad, not anybody else. Got it? Me. And whatever happens as a result will be on me. Seph didn’t bring this on me and neither did Deacon, so you’d better knock that shit off. I’m tired of it. Seph has given me plenty of outs and I chose to fight for us. I know the risks, and I chose to pursue what you and Dad were too afraid to. You missed your chance, you made a deal with the devil, and that’s on you, so don’t you dare blame anyone but yourself.”

“Adrian...”

“What the hell did you think was going to happen? I’d forget about everyone I care about here so we could be one big happy family? Just me, you, and Cyrus?” he snaps at her before shaking his head, “What a fucking joke. I don’t want to hear it anymore. You’re done.” Turning to the others now, he says, “come on. Grab her and let’s get back to the house. We need to discuss what happens next.” His attention once again returns to her, adding, “I don’t know what we’re going to do with you yet, but you’ve clearly proven you can’t be trusted.”

                          OKAY SO BESIDES EVERYONE JOINING THIS WESTWORLD AU BC HOW CAN YOU NOT WANT A GIANT GV WESTWORLD. my number one au for ontari has always been arranged marraige -------- like hwn i first made her i had this huge lke hc of like the fact that like the ice queen had kidnapped her basically as a princess in training to marry her off to one of her sons ( * probably roan since he’s eldest and would be king ) so that the azgeda royalty would all be nightbloods and since in my like nightblood meta ( and if you’ll notice how i write ontari ) nightblood is considered holy and sacred then like if nia could pull this off then all the fucking ice nation royal line would be secure for generations to come because no one would dare go against night children. pramheda’s descendants ruling the likelihood of azgeda being able to compete in a conclave each time it happens increasing tenfold and you’d KNOW they’d be loyal to azgeda like yes. i mean if i was queen i’d totally do that. and obvi you’d keep it a secret from those outside azgeda, if anyone asked you’d tell them it was a rumor the azgeda citizens made up but it also meant you wouldn’t be allowed to bleed in public if you were part of the royal family bc while in azgeda it would be known you don’t want it known everywhere bc then the feilmkepa order would get pisseddddddd.
