Having spent the last two days in a drug-induced sleep, Adrian would have thought that he was good on the rest for a bit. However, with phase two of Elysium having begun and the influx of problems they were about to face as a result of that, he was actually feeling rather exhausted. His head barely hit the pillow of the bed he shared with Seph before it was lights out.

It wasn’t a very peaceful sleep though. A cold shift in energy pulled him from his happier dreams of her into a dark room that strangely resembled a prison cell in some hellistic alternate reality. Momentarily confused at the sudden change, Adrian looks around him until he finds the source and begins to understand what was going on.

“Of course it’s you,” he laughs dryly. After Hades’s whole deal with his mother blew up in his face, he should have expected a not-so-pleasant visit from the man himself. “Man, I always knew you were an obsessive piece of shit, but there really aren’t any levels you won’t stoop to in order to ruin any happiness that doesn’t revolve around you, is there? I mean, it’s one thing to manipulate my mother, but killing your so-claimed ‘love of a lifetime’ and making her a prisoner so she won’t come after me... That takes the whole fucking cake. You really don’t know when to quit, do you?”

Stepping closer to him, he could feel the hatred for this one man boiling his very blood. Hades had taken her choice and her mortality for his own selfish gain. Even just hearing those stories before he met the man was enough to make him hate him. He didn’t deserve her and he never would and that was why he needed to die. Because he would never stop taking everything from her. 

“You are not getting rid of me that easily. You think you can scare me off with shit like this?” He gestures around him in their current setting of Hades’s choosing. “You can make all the deals you want, but I will keep coming back every single time. I’m in it for the long haul and I will fight the good fight until she is finally free of you. So you’d better enjoy your reign while it lasts because I’m about to bring your whole kingdom crumbling.”

If Hades was bothered, he didn’t show it, but that was the thing about arrogance. He thought he was untouchable and it was going to be his downfall. Adrian would see to that personally. With a light chuckle, Hades dismisses his speech though with, “ i’ll see you soon. oh, and it just may be sooner than you think.”

“Yeah, we’ll see,” he snaps back, “I have zero intention of dying, so you’d better hope the ace up your sleeve is good enough to kill me this time because I will never stop coming for you.”

After spending hours with her nose buried in the books, Bonnie came to the conclusion that she wasn’t going to find the answer in any of them. Her oldest grimoire dated back 2,000 years and this was much older than that. A resurrection spell wouldn’t cut it either, Hades would never allow it nor she was too keen on killing herself dabbling in that again. Closing the book in front of her, she considered another approach.

“I’m heading to the library,” she informs Dev as he catches her on her way to the front door. It had been a very long night and she hadn’t slept yet, but there were more pressing matters that needed her immediate attention. “I’m not gonna find what I need in any book, so I’m going straight to the source. If he doesn’t want to talk to me, I’ll make him.”

Bonnie moves to step around him, but before she can reach the door, he catches her wrist stopping her. Turning around to face him, she gives him a look. “What are yo--”

“ i love you.”

The words catch her off guard as she momentarily forgets about everything else. She didn’t need to finish her question, the look on his face with the accompanying words answered it for her. Wordlessly, she closes the distance and pushes herself up to capture his lips. He didn’t want her to risk seeing Hades, he didn’t want anything bad to happen to her. Besides Gray, Dev was always the one pushing her to think more about herself. He loved her.

After a moment more, she pulls back to gaze up at him. “I know what you’re worried. But I have to,” she murmurs softly as she caresses his face, “I-- wait a second.” The moment is interrupted as a thought occurs to her. “What if I don’t have to? What if Alaine made a deal with Hades and all we have to do is get Adrian back here?”

Briefly stepping away from him, she makes her way over to where the map was still laid out on the table. The marker for Alaine was on the move, which meant they’d have to navigate and keep Deacon posted on her whereabouts until him and Jared could catch up with them. 

“Can you call Deacon or Jared and tell them she’s on the move?” She asks him, but before he can leave to do that, she grabs his hand. “Dev? I love you too, you know,” she tells him with a little smile before she pulls him back to kiss him again. “Now let’s kick Hades’s ass and take the chance we both deserve.”

Adrian’s party was coming together quite nicely. It was maybe still too extravagant for her brother’s tastes, especially the chocolate and champagne fountains, but Ronnie thought he ought to appreciate it more. He was already practically mated to Seph, whose wealth expanded over roughly 4,000 years, and she never did anything halfway. Besides, she believed that everyone should experience a birthday party like the one she’d been thrown last year at least once in their lifetime.

Helping Eric and Hermes with some finishing touches around the living room, Ronnie couldn’t help but peak over to where Deacon stood talking to Gray. Those two had been spending a good chunk of time together recently and maybe the compatability wheels of matchmaking were spinning with a little more force in her head. The Kara thing was still (unfortunately) going on, but she knew the real thing when she saw it. Someday, that was going to be something more. 

As Deacon parts ways with her to help Hermes hang something, Ronnie seizes the opportunity, muttering “I’ll be right back,” to Eric. Coming up beside Gray, she doesn’t say anything at first as they both watch the boys struggle a bit with something heavy. “So...” she starts casually before diving straight in, “what do you think of my brother?”

The look on Gray’s face told her she already knew what was coming. Apparently she had no comment about that, but Ronnie persists anyways. She wasn’t going full blown matchmaker on this one just yet, but if the Doug/Lydia thing had taught her anything, it was that some people just needed that tiny little push first. “I just noticed you two were hanging out a little more is all. He could use people that aren’t Kara that tell him like it is instead of just feeding him pretty words he wants to hear. You’re good with that.” A pause before she throws in. “And I mean, he’s a nice looking guy, right?”

“ i believe i said no comment.”

Oops. That was a little too obvious. “I’m just saying,” she defends, “your energies are real good together. I think you know him maybe even better than he knows himself right now.” The look on her face was almost comical; like she wanted to literally run away from this conversation because she knew this was how it started with Adrian and Seph and then Doug and Lydia. But Ronnie didn’t come over to be pushy about that. Deacon still needed to get over his Kara phase and if anything, she was more in support of him being single for awhile. She was more just thinking toward what his future could look like.

“Anyway, I’ll let that drop.” For now, she adds mentally. “I just want to say I think you’ve been a good friend to him. Even if he’s not super appreciative for that right now, I am. He needs that and I’m glad he has someone like you that knows him. The real him.”

After being talked down from a mindless suicide mission by Deacon, the brothers slipped into the kitchen to formulate a real plan. This was their sister’s life on the line and Tabs pretty much fell under that same umbrella of the people he cared about most in this world. They couldn’t be reckless about this, they had to be smart.

“I think I’ve already got it figured out. Well, partially, at least,” Deacon wastes no more time launching straight into it. “A few weeks ago, I went looking for another dose of those herbs to help me sleep, and ended up in the basement. Seph was tinkering with a weapon of sorts, so I asked her what it was. She said it was a crossbow bolt; explained how it bore a curse of the Styx and was a part of some exchange ritual between the living and dead. Hades has an immunity to it, she was working out how to get through it. Said something about a dagger...”

“A dagger?” Adrian interrupts as his brain starts to connect those dots.

“Yeah. That’s where I’m stuck because I didn’t see any dagg---”

“I know of it,” he interrupts again, “Kol came by yesterday with a dagger for Seph. He said it wasn’t ordinary, it does something, but he hadn’t been able to work out the what. It was the same dagger Demeter made a point of showing me when we went back into the dream world. It changed from a dagger to a sword. I guess that was when the feed cut out for you guys. At the time it didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but she told me I’ll realize I have all I need already. I think I get it now.

To kill Hades once and for all, I believe we’ll need to use both. They work together. Shoot him with the bolt and then finish with the dagger. You said she keeps the bolt in the basement?”

“Yeah, I---”

“ i hope you’re right.” Gray interrupts, making no attempt to hide the fact she’d been listening in on their conversation.

Her sudden appearance causing Deacon to jump, his brother shoots a glare at her. “For fucks sake, Gray!” He breathes out. “Really? How fucking long have you been standing there?”

“Long enough, apparently, but it’s fine. We could probably use her help,” Adrian states before looking to directly to Gray now. “I’m not wasting anymore time, we’re going after Hades. Everyone says you’re a great shot and you’ve been training my brother. We could probably use you and a few others to help clear a path. Eric’s been working with a bunch of tech to combat the spirits, I’m sure he could work something for your crossbow.”

Addressing both now, he adds, “so what do you say? Let’s end this.”

The game had changed and a new hand was dealt to all players by the big boss. Hitman was out, he merely needed to be a brief distraction. If Leo played his part right, the rewards would be very plentiful and well, he did still have some unfinished business with the Mikaelson’s. He never got the satsifaction of peace with his wife, but he could still avenge her death. All his lackeys had to do was drop a little tip for Persephone to pick up on and his part in the plan was pretty much in motion.

Turning this old factory building into something of a fortress, he knew the message had reached her ears when the chaos broke out on the ground floor below. The screams of spirits got louder until eventually it was right outside. The door is blasted right off its hinges as Seph steps fully inside, bringing him face-to-face with his favorite meddlesome old ‘friend’.

“ looks like you need to work on your clearance level… dick.”

“Ah, now that’s hurtful. Is that any way to treat an old friend?” He comments as a smug little grin can’t help but tug at his lips. “Anyway. They weren’t so much a security clearance as they were a carefully laid distraction. A very successful one, I might add, since well... here you are.” The grin shifting into a full on smirk upon her apparent confusion, Leo stands up from his chair, explaining further. “We needed you away from the house. You have a bad habit of interfering, see, so we couldn’t chance you finding out and doing your little hero act. I’m sure you understand.”

If she couldn’t piece it together from there, that was her own problem. His part of the deed was done. “Anyway, why don’t we get your little tantrum out of the way and be on our merry way? You’ll have bigger problems than me to deal with when you get back.”

They’d been able to keep up a good lead on the others, but eventually the abomination and his army caught up. Just like his father, Deacon pursued relentlessly until he got his way. Shaking Cyrus awake, Alaine hops out of their shared bed and quickly dresses. “Grab him,” she motions to their sleeping son, “we’ll slip out the back.”

In a flash, they were out of there as Alaine made a full sprint toward the car with Cyrus lagging behind with Adrian. However, she barely reaches the the door handle when she realizes it was too late as Jared was leaning against their car waiting for them. “Don’t do this, Jared. Just let us go,” she begs, “she was always going to get him killed. You have to know that this is for the best.”

“Maybe, but that’s not for you to decide, Alaine,” Jared argues, switching his gaze to Cyrus as he addresses his own father, “it’s not for you to decide either. Adrian chose her. So this is done.”

“Jared---” Cyrus starts, but is quickly interrupted.

“I said this is done. Now get in the car. Both of you. Don’t make this more difficult than it needs to be.”

Looking away from Jared, she shares a knowing look with Cyrus. They could try to make a run for it, but there was no out running a hybrid. It was over, they had failed and they both knew it. With a tearful gaze, she takes a breath before complying.

Upon their return to McKinley, Alaine realizes with horror that Seph was there waiting for his return. She had thought they’d have a little more time to figure things out, but the witch-bitch was already back home from her kingdom as part of the welcoming commitee. 

Leaping out of the car as her son made a beeline straight for her, Alaine sprints after him calling out to him, “Adrian, don’t!”

It was too late though. Despite the warnings from the she-devil, he had made his choice as the two of them collided sending a roaring thunder through the area. A familiar heart break ached in her chest as she turned to Cyrus with wide, teary eyes. “No, no, no!” she breathes out in a panic, making a run for him but before she could reach him, he collapsed motionless and in his place stood Hades.

“No! You can’t do this. We had a deal!”

“ that part of our deal is over.” He informs her with a cold, cruel look in his eyes. 

“I did everything you wanted!” She hollers at him through her tears, “it was YOU who failed to uphold your end!” In the blink of an eye though, he was gone again, leaving her to scream into the abyss. “Get back here you cowardly son of a bitch!” Keeping on like that until her voice hurt, she eventually collapses beside Cyrus, stroking his cold face as devastation overtook. “I’m so sorry, my love,” she murmurs through her tears, “I’m so sorry.”

Her grief turning to anger as she heard his voice, Alaine rose from the ground marching over to where Deacon stood. He’d pursued them relentlessly across state. If it hadn’t been for him, the deal would have held and Cyrus would still be with her. Just like his damn father, he managed to ruin everything and Adrian was in danger again. 

“You!” She hollers, cracking him right across the face hard enough to send him stumbling back a few feet, “this is your fault! You couldn’t just let it be! Boy, are you your father’s son, you’ll stop at nothing to make everyone as miserable as you are.” The commotion had drawn Seph’s attention, to which Alaine whirls around on her instead, “this is just as much your fault, if not more! If you had just let him be, we’d never be in this position in the first place. You can scare me with your little tricks all you’d like but your selfishness will get him killed, you just wait, you little---”

"That’s enough!” Adrian interrupts, drawing her attention away from the both of them. The look he gave her, it was like a knife twisting in her gut. “You’ve done enough, this is fucking done, alright? I’m not tolerating it anymore, so you’d better wisen up. I make my own choices. Not you, not Dad, not anybody else. Got it? Me. And whatever happens as a result will be on me. Seph didn’t bring this on me and neither did Deacon, so you’d better knock that shit off. I’m tired of it. Seph has given me plenty of outs and I chose to fight for us. I know the risks, and I chose to pursue what you and Dad were too afraid to. You missed your chance, you made a deal with the devil, and that’s on you, so don’t you dare blame anyone but yourself.”

“Adrian...”

“What the hell did you think was going to happen? I’d forget about everyone I care about here so we could be one big happy family? Just me, you, and Cyrus?” he snaps at her before shaking his head, “What a fucking joke. I don’t want to hear it anymore. You’re done.” Turning to the others now, he says, “come on. Grab her and let’s get back to the house. We need to discuss what happens next.” His attention once again returns to her, adding, “I don’t know what we’re going to do with you yet, but you’ve clearly proven you can’t be trusted.”

The room was eerily silent for some time after Deacon had left with Jared. Despite the parting words from Hermes, everyone kept expecting Seph to bounce back like nothing had happened. It wouldn’t be the first time. However, as minutes turned into hours, there was no change and that’s when everything erupted into chaos. 

Nat broke down first and began wailing with Adam trying to comfort her, George seemed to be in a whole other world entirely, Dev was unreadable, but everyone was mourning. Bonnie had no idea what happened, but somehow she needed to fix this before everyone else found out. 

Slowly backing out of the room, she steps into the kitchen where it’s a little quieter and dials the first person that comes to mind. “Hey, Laura, I’m sorry to call so late,” she starts, trying to keep an even tone though she was slightly panicking herself. “I don’t really know how to say this gently, so I’ll just say it: Seph is dead. Not temporary dead, but dead-dead.”

Taking a breath, she continues, “I don’t really know what happened. I did the locator for Adrian, and she just... died. Hermes showed up and said the war is over and I don’t know what the hell that means or how. I’m trying to make sense of everything so I can fix it, but I’m also freaking out a little bit because I just watched my friend die.”

Almost like it was her nature, Laura directs her to take a deep breath in attempt to calm her before adding, “ please, just… keep it together until i get there. can you do that for me, okay?”

With a little nod, she answers, “I can do that.” Laura was right, she had to keep a calm and level head. Bonnie had been through more insanity than she could even keep track of at this point. They would figure this out. “Thanks, Laura. Do you think you can grab Lydia as well? We’re gonna need all the brains we can get on this one.”
