Finally got to that Act 2 Durge camp scene if you refuse to kill Isobel last night, and while I've seen that scene like a billion times other places, going through it with both Astarion and Shadowheart as Aurora gave me some thoughts whirring in my head

Aurora's mental state for most of the game is in the gutter. Like the level of self-loathing she carries with her at all times is honestly a bit much, leading her to be very self sacrificing and borderline suicidal. She's kept it together thus far, even finding some renewed hope and purpose after discovering her connection to Lathander at the monastery, but when she's forced to almost kill a loved one in camp she just falls apart completely.

When she's finally back to her self again, all she has left in her is tears. She's just so tired. Between the sleepless nights, the chronic headaches and pains, the constant battles both within and without her cup is already full, and now it's spilling over.

She genuinely contemplates just leaving, putting as much distance between herself and the others as she can before turning, maybe taking down some shadowy abominations with her as she goes. And if push came to shove, a dagger to the heart always does the trick.

She's kept her Urge mostly secret until now, afraid of what the others would think, and is very pleasantly surprised to discover she's met with compassion of all things. The others are wary of her, sure, but none of them seem to blame her for her affliction, and seem mostly preoccupied with how to avoid any possible incidents in the future.

And then there's Astarion, who almost got killed by her uncontrollable bloodlust, and Shadowheart, who could just as easily have become the victim had the dice of fate rolled slightly differently. The way both of them are so supportive of her, seemingly unfazed by the moral aspects of the Urge. How Astarion is being a little cheeky about the whole thing, joking about it in all the right ways to ease the tension, while Shadowheart's more earnest and serious approach still makes her feel seen and taken seriously.

To be met with such understanding and love when she has none for herself is so important to her I think, to have something more to live for than just a sense of duty and spite. Someone to keep the candle of hope lit, even when the Urge tries to snuff it out.

LAST TIME ON EXPLORERS OF ARVUS: we kicked the shit out of a witch, a murdercow, and a tree, and nearly got murdered by a broom! also i exploded the tree, which was pretty fucking poggers. we also did have to hold taure down to feed her some healing elixirs but yknow

silje, meanwhile, was spaced the fuck out the entire time (bc of being a dmpc last time) and has no idea what just happened or that he commited gratiutous amounts of tree violence.

So I finished Persona 5 Royal

And once again I was a crying mess when the ending credits rolled.

Now, I’d like to share my thoughts about this game but I also respect the fact that not everyone had the chance to finish it yet so anything that is a spoiler will be talked about under the cut.

Anyways, let’s begin.

From the very beginning... I love the new title screen, the fact that you can see each member just hanging out in the streets of Tokyo is so cute and I love it. It’s so easy to get a platinum trophy for Persona 5 Royal which at first I thought was somewhat disappointing as it doesn’t require you to play through it again but then I found out there’s a bunch of challenges in the Thieves Den so I was really glad I had a reason to play it again.

Speaking of the Thieves Den, it’s really nice to see your team members just chat about the decorations you put in there, like for example Yusuke and Ann casually chatting in front of a Reaper statue like it’s no big deal. On a small sidenote, my mum really likes the fact that you can play Tycoon in the Thieves Den and I’m not gonna lie she spent hours playing with them which means I now have thousands of tokens but nothing to spend them on :’)

Much of P5R is very similar to the vanilla P5 except of course the fact that there’s 2 new characters being introduced to the story. You still get sent to Tokyo for ‘assaulting’ the drunk man however, the first change that you really notice is Sojiro’s conversation with you when he is taking you home on the Sunday you visit the school. Of course, by this point you know that there have been many psychotic breakdowns and a lot of accidents but what Sojiro tells you is... Interesting to say the least. I didn’t think of it much at first but then again I went into Royal completely spoiler free (except of course with the knowledge of how Persona 5 plays out) but eventually you find out that what he said was actually really important.

Another thing I really loved that they put in Royal is the fact that they managed to make the battle system even better. I always thought it was pretty amazing but they somehow managed to make it even better. First off, you can Baton Pass right off the bat. No need to establish a social link with the party members or anything, which honestly makes everything so much easier, especially in the early game. They also decided, you know what this nasty crime boy needs? Unlimited bullets... Well sorta. Remember how in Persona 5 you only had a limited amount of bullets per infiltration? Well, now they replenish every battle which of course means I did the only rational thing:

You also get the grappling hook in Royal and honestly? Just watching Joker do flips all over the place is really aesthetically pleasing. I love that they reworked the Palaces so that the grappling hook plays a big part in getting around and as I said, it’s just so fun to see Joker zooming through the air.

They added new Shadows/Personas to Royal which I think is fantastic as it makes returning players not bored of the battles but they also changed some weaknesses/removed weaknesses for some shadows which means you gotta strategise a little bit more. They also changed up the Palace Ruler Bosses but I found them... A lot more easier than the original? I don’t know if it’s due to the fact that I love to grind a lot before finishing a Palace or if I just had the perfect Personas for the occasion but yeah... That’s not to say the changes are bad! I still really liked them but it was just... Really easy for me lol. 

Another major change is the fact that Morgana decided that you may be a tired boi after going to the Metaverse but you still have enough energy to do some things in the cafe. That makes it like a ton easier to max out your social stats which means you can max out your confidants a lot faster, I managed to max out everyone and still had days where I literally had nothing to do which just shows how much time you actually save now.

Along with the fact that they fixed some translation errors, they also improved the sprites and added a lot more voice lines which was really nice in my opinion, it was a lot better when a character was expressing a certain emotion and their sprite actually matched it instead of just them facing one way and occasionally changing the facial expression.

I’ll mention this briefly seeing as this is sort of spoilery but I really loved the new confidants. The fact that you can actually hang out with Akechi and get to know him instead of being forced to level him up automatically was so good. The scenes where you would automatically rank up are still there but they kinda act as a filler of sorts now which in all honesty I didn’t mind. 

Ummm... That’s about all I can think of that doesn’t contain spoilers so... The section below will have spoilers so please only read this when you finish the game!

I’m going to talk about Akechi’s Confidant for a bit because I just really loved it okay? You learn so much about him, even things that seem trivial like the fact that he’s left handed become... Well rather important near the end. The more time you spend with him, the more you see how much Akira actually means to him. When you defeat him in his Rank 8 event, I actually loved it when he said he hated Akira. That was pure Akechi right there, no lies, no fake smiles just pure, honest truth. Also, I love how he decided to be extra and dramatic by throwing his glove as a challenge. It’s also really significant, at least to me, mainly because you never see him without gloves, in a way, this sort of showed that he fully exposed his true self to Akira. Their exchange in Shido’s Palace when you remind him that you still have his glove... That was really sad. I really wish there was some way you could help him, but alas, you can’t always have happy endings.

I’m not gonna lie, I was really confused when I got to 12/24 and we still went to Mementos. You discover a Palace and explore it for a bit but then it’s kind of... Forgotten? Like Morgana is genuinely like: Lmao this doesn’t concern us atm so you know, killed God with the power of friendship, was ready to stop being a Phantom Thief and surrender myself to the police but then... Mr. Sketchy himself just appears out of nowhere and decides that he’ll take Akira’s place for him

When I first saw him I was like: Omg? How is this even possible? Can I hug him? But then weird things started happening in the story

Reality becomes distorted after New Years and you see that right away when your cat, is no longer a cat. But that’s not all, Futaba’s mother is alive and well as well as Haru’s father and supposedly they were never dead in the first place. I was really confused but then guess who turns up to clear some things up... Mr. Pankechi.

This post is already long as hecc so I won’t go into details but I really like the new Palace. It’s so different to the other Palaces and for once the Palace Ruler is not some evil adult... He’s actually quite the opposite.

I’m going to quickly talk about Kasumi for a second now, or rather Sumire. Honestly when you learn the truth, I was really shocked. Remember when I said what Sojiro tells you becomes important near the end? Yeah well it’s like the game was telling you from the start that she’s not really who she says she is. Just like Akechi, I was fully convinced that the New Palace was hers but I was kind of relieved to find out that wasn’t the case. As a party member, I really like her, she’s really cute and her Persona abilities are helpful in the new Palace. As a confidant... Again, she’s just so cute. When you help her pick out the glasses for her dad... Bruh I just wanted to give her headpats all day. Once you unlock the rest of her confidant, it’s really nice to see her grow and accept the fact that she doesn’t have to be Kasumi appreciated, and once she accepts that she’s Sumire but she’ll still do everything to make Kasumi’s dream come true it was honestly so satisfying. 

I think the thing I loved the most though is the fact that Akechi becomes your navigator for a little while and honestly? I wish I had the option to keep him as the navigator. His lines are so funny because they’re helpful but at the same time they’re so passive aggressive! ALSO his Showtime with Joker is by far my favourite Showtime. I love how he’s able to just be himself and literally rip enemies apart and Joker’s just there like: Yeah I’ll play along why not. Whenever they finish and Akechi is just there like: “Don’t waste my time.” ... Big mood, me when I’m driving around Mementos trying to find the stamps.

One more thing I gotta talk about... The ending. I love it so much. I think it’s a lot better than the original Persona 5 ending and here’s why. First of all, the fact that you see the Thieves still being themselves is just so sweet I love these funky kids, that fact that Maruki gives you a lift to the station and he accepts that this is the world that you have to live in? Amazing, thank you Atlus. The fact that Morgana is just snoozing in your bag? Beautiful, let me pet my cat plz. But most importantly... The edgy pancake loving detective LIVES, granted Akira doesn’t actually see him but I DID. I burst into tears when I saw him walk by, I’m so glad he got to live in a reality where he isn’t anyone’s puppet anymore. He can finally fix the mistakes he did, don’t get me wrong, Akechi is still a bad person, I mean he literally killed people but he still deserved a second chance, and seeing him alive means that he finally has a chance to do that... Bruh I was crying so much.

Anyway, I could talk about this game for hours but here are just some of my thoughts that I wanted to share, I’m sure I’ll have a lot more to say later on but for now... Have this mess I call a post!

Jae:

Jae would be hella shy 24/7 around them, especially if he just saw them like sitting in a pew and found out from a friend that they worked at the church’s daycare. Aside from volunteering at the daycare to get closer to them, he would actually realize how much he loved hanging out and playing with the kids.

He was too busy focusing on his fingers hitting chords and strumming against the acoustic guitar strings as the little kids sat around him in a circle singing “Itsy Bitsy Spider” to notice that you had stopped cleaning the mess the preschoolers had made from an afternoon snack. Even if he was singing a childish song, you wouldn’t be able to tell with the way his raspy voice complimented the rather high key. When he finished the song and the children finished clapping and shouting at how well “Jae-Jae” had done, he looked up to see you smiling and applauding him as well. He had to duck his head as he let a blush creep up his cheeks.

Children’s parents had started to show up around 5 pm to pick up their little ones and as he was putting his guitar back in the case he overheard a conversation that you were having with one of the parents.

“It’s so nice to see your boyfriend come in to play the guitar for the children.” The mother smiled at you.

You responded with a slightly blush and a shake of the head. People saw you as his significant other? Do we look good together? Do they like me back? A million thoughts swarmed his mind as he lowered his head to hide his blush as he zipped up the guitar case.

After all the kiddos had gone he was waiting for you to lock the daycare doors as he sat on a railing. Once you were done and appeared by his side, before you could say goodbye he worked up an extra ounce of courage. “Do you want to have dinner with me? There’s this great little shop up on the corner.” to which you gladly accepted.

Sungjin:

Someone who would totally try to act cool and suave around them and totally fail. But in all honesty the kids loved him so he ended up coming on days even when the person he was crushing on wasn’t working in the daycare because he also really liked working with the kids as well. They’ve basically adopted him and the person he is crushing on at this point. They are their daycare “parents”.

Let’s just say Sungjin’s brightest moments weren’t inside the daycare. From letting the young girls put his hair in pigtails and the boys to climb on his shoulders and arms as if he was a living jungle-gym. Then again who could blame him when he was trying to impress you with how good he was with kids. Though, while you were trying to get them to calm down for nap time (with the few older kids helping out) he was too busy play wrestling the five year olds and winding them up. The only time that they would actually tend to behave when Sungjin was around was when he pulled out his guitar and played a soft lullaby for them to fall asleep to.

It was a rare occasion when Sungjin got you to join in on his antics with the children. It was recess time and he was running around in a game of tag with a young group of boys and girls when he suddenly ran up behind you.

“TAG YOUR IT” He said, voice slightly raised, in your ear. Before you could turn around he was already halfway across the field with a bunch of preschoolers on his heels. With a rather competitive spirit, you couldn’t just let him get away with that, could you? So you raced out into the field and beelined towards Sungjin in an attempt to get him back.

The children were running around your feet, happy that you were playing along until you suddenly tripped, before you could land in the mud you felt a strong grip around your waist and looked up to see Sungjin’s concerned face above your own. “Are you okay? I didn’t mean to get you hurt.”

When you nodded and hid your blush, he smiled. “Let me take you out to lunch to make up for it one day. I won’t take ‘no’ for an answer.”

Brian:

Actually didn’t decide to work in the daycare but because there was an afterschool academy in the same complex, he decided to get a job there. He saw it as a double win because one, it wasn’t volunteer work and he got payed. And two, he got to see you every day. So when he walked out to have lunch and he saw you, he ended up spending his lunch in the daycare to which the kids got him to play the piano and sing before he had to go back to work.

He had just started his “lunch” break when he walked out of the door he saw you standing in the hallway struggling to carry in bags of what appeared to be crackers and juice boxes. Before you could topple over and drop all that you were carrying, he appeared in front of you, putting his hands under the boxes and urging you to hand them off to him. “Do you have a lot of kids in the center today?” He asked as you gave a sigh of relief from the weight lifting off your shoulders.

Giving a small hum you asked him about how it was at the academy and he responded with a slow before you went to open the door as he helped you carry the snacks inside. Upon seeing Brian, the kid’s surrounded his feet but when you told them off, they backed away slightly to avoid tripping him.

Once the food was set down he helped you pass out the snacks anf sat with you at a regular sized desk once everyone was fed.

“You know, you should really eat more than a protein bar and green tea, Brian.” You looked up at him from the salad and sandwhich sitting infront of you.

“I’m fine, plus, it keeps my energy up.” He waved the protein bar wrapper infront of your face.

“Please eat, I’m not even that hungry today.” You pushed a half of your sandwhich towards him. “If not I’m forcing you to go to dinner with me, that way I know you’re eating.” Brian had become a close companion since he started working at the academy.

“I’ll guess I have to skip out on the lunch today.” He laughed and threw the snack wrapper into the trash. With a groan he stood up and pushed in the chair before turning to the door. “Don’t forget about that dinner you promised me, Y/N!” He gave off in a sing song voice before saying goodbye to the kids and shutting the door behind him.

Wonpil:

 The exact opposite of Sungjin lmao. Honestly always questioning himself on whether or not he looks or sounds super dorky in front of his crush when in reality is the type to make them blush 24/7 without even realizing it. Loves the kids, the kids love him back. They all refuse to go to sleep unless he is there singing a lullaby.

It was one of the few days that Wonpil wasn’t able to come in and help around the daycare which was rather odd because whenever you had a shift he asked to pick one up at the same time. Something about prior engagements.

It was right around 1 in the afternoon which meant it was time for the kids to take a nap, except all of them were fighting it because “Wonpilie-hyung” and “Wonpilie-oppa” wasn’t there to sing them a song before they could drift off into dream land. After fighting them for the past hour, you went to your last resort which was to call Wonpil in hopes that he would be free enough to sing the children to sleep for few minutes.

Afraid that he wouldn’t even pick up you were surprised that he was on the line after the second ring. “Hey Y/N. Is everything okay, did the other volunteer not come in?” His voice was straining to speak over the obvious background noise that sounded like rather inconsistent bangs to a bass drum and torturous sliding of keys on a piano.

“Ummmm, it sounds like you are busy, maybe I shouldn’t have called.” You were already second-guessing yourself and started to pull the phone away from your ear, ready to hang up, sighing in the fact that you would have to find another way to make the children fall asleep.

“No-no-no, let me just get to a quiet hallway or something.” He quickly cut your small rant off, and soon the strident noises were no longer heard. “Is there something wrong?” His voice came through the phone cracked but still lyrical as ever.

“Ummm.” You hesitated. “I’m having trouble getting the kids to sleep and I was wondering if you could maybe, sorta…”

“Of course I’ll sing them a song Y/N.” You could practically see the beam cross his lips. “You should’ve just asked.”

The children were finally asleep and you were out in the hall in order to no disturb them. “Thank you so much for helping me get them asleep, I know you weren’t exactly planning on having to deal with them today. I swear your voice is the most soothing thing to them.” You smiled. The next thing you knew, a blush was rising through your neck to your temples.

“Is it soothing and sweet to you?” When there was no response on his side he quickly attempted to cover it. “Was that way too cheesy?”

Finally gaining your bearings you smiled. “No, I like hearing your voice everyday.”

Dowoon:

Ummm he is still a child. Lol, no honestly when he first came in to volunteer, all the kids were slightly scared of him because of how deep his voice was. But soon enough he was the one that they would ask to do weird voice impressions or act like a reporter and a character in a game that they were playing. ULTIMATE KING OF PLAYING HOUSE. But suddenly gets super shy and his voice cracks when the kids ask his crush to play house with them and make Dowoon and them pretend as if they were married. If only he knew how much they were also screaming on the inside.

It was a Thursday night and a couple parents had called saying they had to work a little bit late so you and Dowoon had agreed to keep the daycare open until the last child had left with a familiar face. As a way to pass time for the tiring kids, you both had agreed play a small game of house and the first thing the young matchmakers had done was place you and Dowoon in a VERY domestic relationship.

In order to act out the fantasies of the young ones, you and Dowoon pretended to play the part of husband and wife while they ordered both of you around as if they were directors to a broadway play. Everything had gone as it would have: the usual fight over something petty, the lovely ‘makeup’ hug, cooking dinner together, pretending to eat the said (plastic) dinner; that was until the mischievous kids decided to take a different route. They ran up to Dowoon and you could see the blush rise to his ears despite the low lighting. He promptly shook his head and the children giggled before nodding their heads vigorously. Which he vigorously shook his head even harder. At this point you were curious about what the conversation had been about but before you could ask, the children’s parents came walking through the door and you and Dowoon were forced to lift yourself off your haunches to properly greet the adults.

Once the children and parents were gone, you were finishing cleaning the last of the day’s mess up with the help of Dowoon when the previous sight appeared in the back of your mind.

Bending down to place a toy into its proper bin you called out Dowoon’s name which he responded with a small sound of acknowledgement. Taking it as a sign to continue, you asked him about a conversation with the young sister and brother duo from before. Without a response you figured he wasn’t going to answer but when you stood up and turned around, you were met with Dowoon’s lips meeting your cheek, before quickly stepping away.

“They told me to kiss you but I wasn’t going to do it infront of the children.” He mumbled under his breath before he went back to sweeping the floor for any crumbs.

kitty is a good student in the classes that can keep her attention (usually science and history) but she has a real tough time if shes not Really Interested in whatever shes supposed to be learning, it just doesnt stick with her well. attitude wise tho shes a good student. she doesnt get into trouble unless the trouble finds her first and then shes too stubborn to back down lol

WELL. a looong while back i wrote a vent fic about dave like getting the shit beat out oif him or whatever. and skylar was one of the bg characters. he was very remorseful but didnt do anything to help dave or apologize and was just like.. in the bg for no reason? but then i was like i kinda....wanna do more with this guy. so i kinda like made an alternate ending to what i had where skylar helped dave after instead of leavin him where he was. and then i got attached lmfao.

kitty was made specifically for skylar! for a long while i thought skylar would always be like. a stand alone character it just felt rlly weird giving him a second Permenant character that wasnt terrible for him and then one day i was like WELL.....what if.......this Girl and then kitty was created

kitty could kill someone accidentally during a blood moon or if she was pushed too far in a non blood moon Wolf time she could probably kill someone but she definitely wouldnt mean to if she was coherent. shes a little more irritable during wolf times (i think i already mentioned that in this or the other one but) and if she gets too angry the wolf in her comes out a little more and she gets violent. shell only mean to maim but miiight go a little too far. hasnt happened yet though and she is determined to be sure it never happens.

skylar however. after like a year of hurting people hes sort of. learnt to dissociate in the process of it to cope. so if he was also pushed far enough, but like, thatd take more than wolfy kitty. like to the point of his family (including kitty) being seriously hurt or threatened seriously he could sorta. snap and have at it. and he could accidentally kill them. really unlikely though.

just a few weeks ago i was in my summer class and we had about 10 minutes until we got out and it’s like 1 so i was starving and ready for lunch so i was looking at my food options in the area and next thing i knew Siri screams into my quiet classroom “starting route to Raising Cane’s”, and everybody laughed and my teacher was Annoyed. and then when we finally got out i thought everybody had moved on and then the guy who sat next to me, WHO HAD NEVER SPOKEN TO ME ONCE, goes “have fun at Raising Cane’s!”

i think the first one is important because i have a tendency of putting myself through a lot of shit to make other people happy and then i’m really unhappy and it’s just not a good way to live. i am really trying to learn this one. and the second one i think is important because being good to other people is a very important thing and i think you never know when somebody else needs that
