Usually I am not an OC person, but I do have these guys, which are near and dear to my heart. I've been working on them since 2015-16-ish, and, while initially it all started as an imagined reboot for a super obscure animated mini-series from 2000's, by now the whole thing evolved into an entirely independent project of big personal importance. I've been cagey about them mostly because I really want to make something significant out of them, maybe like a comic or a children's book, all with a major focus on edutainment, but have been stuck on the topic for years.

The overall premise goes as follows: one day, an empty Petri dish rolled under the sink in a microbio lab, never to be found again by any human working there. However, it quickly became a home to a vibrant community of all sorts of microorganisms, who, as it turns out, are not that different from the humankind. They even have schools!

Main cast:

Eccoli (based on E. coli): he's the protagonist. A smart, but thouroughly burned out kid who skips classes to go eavesdropping on the lessons taking place in a rival school. This is how he stumbles upon the other three guys and reluctantly befriends them. He's very anxious and secretive by nature, but blossoms whenever he gets a chance to talk about his special interest in viruses. Also, being a bacteria, he is by far the tiniest of the main quartet - yes, not all microorganisms are equally small.

Penny Cilly (based on the penicillium mold): a diligent and energetic girl with a short temper and an over-achiever.mindset. May not be able to grasp some topics from the get-go, but makes up for it with lots and lots of hard work. Her family wants her to make a career in antibiotic production, but she's more interested in looking for the alternatives, as antibiotic resistance is on the rise.

Muchor (based on the mucor mold): despite being Penny's childhood friend, he couldn't be more different from her. A born genius, he never struggles in class, grasping even the most complex of concepts on the fly, but having to sit down and do homework will make him crumble. His intellectual prowess also led him to developing a self-centered and condescending attitude, but under all that he's actually a pretty chill and pleasant guy. Has a knack for dangerous experiments and stupid pranks.

Ameeba (based on amoebas): the token nerd of the group. Shy and timid, but very observant and analytical - she definitely rivals even Muchor in that regard, which he openly admits. She has a wide range of interests, but mostly they revolve around art, anime and fashion. She has a very eclectic taste and changes outfits constantly. Also, she can shapeshift! Usually it's confined to her hair, but changing the whole body is definitely possible. It's a very handy ability, as amoebas are significantly larger than most microorganisms (some are even visible with the naked eye), and not many places in Ameeba's life accomodate for that.

Vol'ka (based on the volvox algae): he's a little younger than the main cast and goes to a different school, but often gets himself involved in their shenanigans. Just as smart as everyone on the team, but his main love is math, maybe also chemistry, while the protags mostly gravitate towards biology. Also, he's the fabled single mom teenager boy: every little cell that makes up his poofy hair is actually one of his little sisters, and he has no choice but to babysit them.

The teachers! The one on the left is Mrs. Inforia (based on Paramecium caudatum), who teaches the main gang and is niceys; the one on the right is Ms. Aurora (based on Staphylococcus aureus), who is Eccoli's teacher and is horrible. Honestly, they're both kind of placeholder-ish, I definitely need to work on the adults of this setting more.

Eulene (based on the euglenas, who are... technically not algae? It's complicated): she's also a teacher working part-time at both Vol'ka's school and the main school, but she's significantly younger than the other two teachers - so much so that she was only in her senior year when Ameeba, Penny and Muchor started middle school. So she's in that awkward position of both being their close friend, but also an authority. Honestly, I love this dymanic, it's very true to some of my experiences.

I'm gonna offer a little morsel to chew on that's been driving me insane😳 for your consideration, imagine on the off chance P manages to take an actual break at the hotel, not just a quick round of chats with everyone, or weapon/strength upgrades, but a full on extended break.

(I think he'd get really caught up on the concept of when a couple is heading to bed one will often sleep on the side closest to the door, that even when asleep they want to shield their beloved🥺)

After his discovery I honestly think he'd become a bit of a mother hen, doting and even a dash fretful at that! He once saw you make your way down the stairs of the hotel without holding onto the railings, nearly tripping and straining your ankle. You try to pull that stunt after he's read his books? Right in front of lover boy? You are getting a glower and have a choice to make, either the railing or his hand, you have to hold one! >:(

I'm telling you, he may be made out of rigid cogs and unfeeling metal, has single handedly ravished droves of enemies and terrors, but this man has sugar glass ribs and a jelly heart, so unendingly sweet and warm, and if he could I bet he'd open his chest and give you his very own heart, hoping you'd see how the pace of its ticks speed up, just for you.

Opinion on Ren?

Ahhh, Ren.

He was a good support for around six years and his volume four arc with the Nuckelavee Grimm was pretty a-okay, nothing super special, but the biggest problem with his character in the first six seasons was the lack of attention paid to him in things like not letting him grieve Pyrrha and not showing his actual friendships develop + dragging out his romance with Nora (which should've started happening in volume 4 or at the very least in V6.)

V7 muddied the waters, making Ren have this arc where everyone was supposed to be mad at him for being a horrible friend and partner because he *checks notes* doesn't tell Nora every single thing he feels as soon as he feels them and didn't feel ready to date her and didn't like being forcibly yanked into a kiss he'd just made it clear he didn't want. I was already feeling sorry for Ren in V7, but then V8 included him being the only member of the team other than Ruby to even consider 'maybe we're not doing that good maybe we're in over our heads' which was, you know, just the truth. However, all Ren got for his troubles was scolded for being such a horrible person to ever doubt their perfection. And then Ren got a semblance upgrade that let him identify people's mood, like a mood ring, and he somehow understands what every color means immediately, and I guess the only person who can feel more than one thing at a time is Winter, and I guess Ren just is intuitive enough to determine exactly what people think based off of their one single feeling - like telling Marrow doesn't want to do what he's doing just because Marrow is sad. And it's like... The dumbest most hand-of-the-author semblance until Neo's V9 upgrade, and used terribly. But apparently acquiring the semblance was enough to make Ren randomly decide he was stupid for thinking or feeling the 'wrong' things and he suddenly was just like "actually everyone is right we're perfect :) :) No one needs to confront any mistakes :) :) I was being a bad friend and partner for not immediately doing whatever Nora wanted and it was wrong of me to have any reservations about our relationship :) :) It's a good thing fearless Jaune is here to be perfect unlike me :) :) Gee I sure am glad Nora forced a kiss on me :) I was one hundred percent wrong :) So glad I stopped thinking any of us need to change :) Better start making sure I express all my emotions the way Nora does because being reserved is a sign of a bad guy :) :) :)"

I like Ren okay but less now that he switched around in V8, and I'm really anticipating that the only thing his character will be used for from here on in is just getting together with Nora officially. I still like him, but since his type of character isn't the type of character I gravitate towards usually, I just don't find him particularly interesting with how they've handled him, which sucks because he has a lot of potential! But past being indignant on his behalf and then rolling my eyes over how he switched around to the rwbyjnor group think, I just think Ren's good-ish but not a character I really gravitate towards.

MMO Opinion - Crafting

You may find it unusual, but in almost any MMO I participate in I tend to gravitate towards the crafting system. I don't know why, but as early as EverQuest 2 I had a fantasy of focusing on crafting. Of being the head crafter in a guild and helping supply everyone with the tools and resources they need to enhance their gameplay and abilities. Maybe I'm just a nerd (Duh, I like MMOs), but I just want my friends to have the best experience they can get in a game and if I can help, then I will. :P Don't get me wrong, adventuring is fun but if I'm playing solo it's the crafting that keep me interested the longest. Especially if I need a break from the story (Sorry FF14, but AAR turns into a bit of a slog before you get to Heavensward content). That being said, there are two major factors that really influence my interest in an MMO Crafting system and whether I'm going to find it worth my time to pursue: Active Crafting and Usability. By Active Crafting, I mean that I prefer a system that is simply more than chucking the pieces into a box and pulling out a completed item. Having agency in not only completing the item but the quality of the items goes a long way to helping make me feel like I'm actually accomplishing something. Final Fantasy XIV is probably the best example of this in my opinion: You manage Progress (Your item's completion) and Quality (The chance of it being rated High Quality, increasing the item's effectiveness). On the other end of the spectrum GuildWars 2's crafting is pretty simple - you have the right materials, you can make the item - but the challenge comes in Discovering recipes and trees of crafting. Often, for higher tier items, you'll need to go three or four items deep before you can make the item you want.

Usability, however, is where Final Fantasy XIV falls short, in my opinion. At least in my observations, almost any item you can craft at level (even HQ) can be outshined by drops that you can grind raids or dungeons for. The most "usability" you really get from items you craft are unique glamours that you can't find anywhere else. GuildWars 2, on the other hand, has Legendary Items that you can craft. While yes, they have the same stats as Ascended items which can be earned through Challenges or Special Events (or Crafted if you felt so inclined), Legendary items have the advantage of being able to change the stats they grant you while out of combat. Want to try out a support build? Change the stats to one that enhances your Healing and Concentration. Group needs DPS? Switch it to Power, Precision, and Ferocity (or Condition Damage and Expertise depending on your DPS style). This flexibility GREATLY enhances the usability of the item and, thanks to the Armory System, once it's bound to one of your characters, ALL of your characters gain access to it at once without having to trade between them. Most Legendary items also add special visual effects (either to your attacks or even simply walking around) and makes it feel worth the effort to put into the forge.

I dunno, maybe I'm the only one out there that really cares about MMO Crafting. Either way, I'm having fun doing it. Maybe someday I'll find my perfect crafting system, but for now these two are scratching the itch in their own ways. ^^

Football games honestly weren't as exciting as they seemed in the movies, but it was your every Friday night. Steve and Bucky got you prime seats every time, but honestly you could care less about the game. You only watched Bucky, number 17. He was the star quarter back, so everyone was watching, but tonight...he was watching you. Every time he's sat at the benches, he twists to catch your eyes. Never a smile or a wave, just staring.

This little game played on and on throughout the game. You could see the exhaustion on his face when he'd turn to stare, the gears grinding. He didn't even seem excited when the cheerleaders would chant his number or giggle as they walked passed him. He seemed unaware. Where was his mind at right now?

After the game, You found Steve and Bucky together walking off the field, Steve obviously searching for Nat. "No Nat tonight Steve, sorry, just me." He smiled down at the grass and gave a laugh, walking off towards the locker rooms. Poor guy.

Then there were two. It was never two for too long though, cheerleaders and adoring fans usually flooded your personal space just to get a word in with Bucky. This time, Bucky grabs your arm and leads you off to an empty hallway adjoining the field and locker rooms. You were utterly alone with him.

"Something up Bucky?" You quietly ask, drawing circles into your palms. You hear him swallow thickly, taking little steps out of discomfort.

"I wanted to ask you something..." There's that silence again. You hated that silence, but you were used to it. "Do you...do you really hate me?" He looked deep into your eyes without blinking, hopeful.

You opened your mouth to answer, quickly closing it to give you time to think. You didn't hate him, quite the contrary, you were in love with him, incredibly in love with him. "I..."

"Actually, don't answer that." Defeated. "I'll see you later alright? I gotta get changed." He turns to walk off to the locker rooms, but you can't stay quiet for the rest of your life, can you?

"Bucky actually..." He stops in his tracks and turns. "I actually don't...hate you that is," You walk forward and take one of his hands in your own. Flipping to his palm, you trace his callouses and think of the new ones that would come from the game that just finished. This was your first ever act of intimacy with him. "It's been a long time now, I always thought you hated me. I always just returned the energy, didn't want you thinking I liked you." The look on his face told you he thought the same thing.

When did we really start disliking each other? Who did it first?

"Y/n..." His eyes flutter close momentarily, moving his hand to brush up your arm and rest on your cheek. Leaning down, he placed a soft kiss to your lips.

You're taken aback by the sudden action, overwhelmed. It's night and day. Is it really Bucky kissing you right now? Are you dreaming? The hand on your cheek was real, and so were the lips. The man kissing you smelled of Bucky, this was all real.

He pulled back, searching your eyes for validation. "I'm sorry, that was so sudden I'll-"

"Thank you," You stopped him. "For finally doing that." You smiled with disbelief. He returned your smile.

"Meet me outside, alright? I gotta go change." He quickly presses another kiss to your lips and bounds off towards the locker room, a pep in his step. You've never seen him so excited, not even with the cheerleaders. Maybe you were finally one step towards that permanent position.

I don't know if it's too specific or too complicated, but I was imagining something like: reader is like an avenger too. He doesn't have powers but has fighting skills and is a very sneaky and swift fighter much like Black Widow. He fights occasionally but his father is always hesitant on letting him participate in highly dangerous missions, he's very protective of his son. That would all just be like background information just give the story some base, but the plot itself i was thinking was just about Steve discovering his son is dating Peter - and, with that, discovering reader is gay - and he gets protective, possibly interrogates Peter and stuff like that. Obviously very fluffy at the end with everyone happy but I guess you can just work on it how you think it's best! If it's too vague or too complex I can try to rewrite the request if you'd like ☺️

Being the son of Steve Rodger’s, aka Captain America had never been an easy feat. He had adopted Y/n after he got out of the ice, needing someone to have in the complete mystery the world was to him. He immediately loved the spunky boy, who was outspoken and reminded him of his younger self.

On many occasions’ Y/n came home with bruises littering his body, but a boyish smile adorned on his lips. The boy just seemed to find trouble without even trying, so Steve decided to teach his son how to fight. It was quite a surprise when Y/n was a complete natural, able to take his father down after a few weeks of training.

The teenage boy’s confidence only seemed to grow with training and fighting, and much to Steve’s displeasure his son ended up joining the avengers. It was one of the only times the father and son argued, going from screaming at each other to the silent treatment for days.

Steve had to admit, his son could kick some serious ass, even beating Clint during a spar, leaving the assassin on the mat groaning in pain and eventually tapping out. Then came in Peter parker, in all his geeky glory, immediately drawing his son’s attention. Steve was hesitant about the boy; he didn’t want Peter causing more trouble for Y/n in the long run.

The father couldn’t deny that his son seemed happier when Peter came into his life, spending most of his time with the young genius and his friends. It was like a moth to a flame, Y/n gravitated towards the boy in a way Steve couldn’t place a word to. If he didn’t know any better, he’d think his son was enamored with Parker. He promptly reminded himself that his son wasn’t gay (There was no issue if he was though) Steve just assumed his son would tell him if that was the case.

That belief was completely changed on a mission though, Y/n and Peter accompanied the team, taking down one of the last HYDRA bases that was left. He had to admit that the kids were holding up well, he could see his son flying around, adorned in all black, including the black mechanical wings on his back. Y/n had made those himself, claiming that they needed more air support than just Tony, Rhodey and Sam.

Every time Steve watched Y/n fly around he felt his heart jump out of his chest, he knew his son could handle himself, but damn it, it was a paternal instinct. “How are we looking up there?” Steve called over the comms, watching as the three flying beings fought off any air support, and diving down to help when needed.

“Well pops judging by the fact that we’re all heading towards the ground for support I’d day good.” Came his sons sarcastic reply, and Steve had to hold back a small smirk. Usually, he’d reprimand someone for talking like that, but Y/n was a special case.

“N/n could you head my way, kinda getting swamped over here.” Parker’s high pitched and young voice rang through the comms, and Steve watched as his beloved son took off once more. He could hear the two young superhero’s grunting and making banter back and forth over the comms as the fight continued.

What took the captain off guard was the sound of his son crying out in pain and the panicked sound of Peter calling out “Y/n!” It felt like someone had grabbed his heart and ripped it out of his chest as he heard Peter call “We have an agent down! Y/n’s down!” Never in Steve’s many years of life did he move as fast as he was right now. Anyone who got in his was down before they could even raise their weapon.

When he saw Peter cradling Y/n against his chest, fingers brushing through his son’s H/c hair, the panic only worsened. The mask Y/n wore was ripped off, lying on the ground beside him; and Steve could clearly see the blood leaking from his son’s side.

As the super soldier got closer, he could hear Peter rambling quietly. “It’s okay baby, I know it hurts.” The teenagers voice sounded so broken; it made his chest tighten even more. “Your dads coming and then we’ll get you to med bay, you’ll be good as new.” He reassured Y/n. Steve couldn’t even bring himself to care when Peter leaned down and pressed a kiss to Y/n’s lips, giving the other boy a tight smile.

From there everything felt like a blur, Steve carried Y/n to the jet and next thing he knew his son was in recovery, a tired smile on his face as Steve entered the room. “Hey pops.” Y/n’s voice sounded so tired and strained, it made Steve want to break down and cry.

“Hey kiddo, how’re you feeling?” He questioned, sitting in the chair beside his son’s bed, immediately holding his hand. “Like I got shot twice.” Y/n deadpanned, giving his father a cheeky grin. Steve huffed out a tired laugh, eyes running over his son’s bruised body. “Yeah, yeah that makes sense.” The soldier chuckled lightly, giving Y/n’s hand a squeeze. The two sat in comfortable silence for a few moments, the only sound in the room was the rhythmic beeps of the heart monitor. After a few moments of psyching himself up, Steve spoke.

“So, you and Parker huh?” He kept his voice light, eyebrows furrowed slightly. His son’s cheeks flushed, looking away from his father. “Oh, uh yeah.” He could hear the beeping increase slightly. “Why didn’t you tell me kiddo?” He questioned, feeling a bit hurt that his son had kept something so important from him.

“I didn’t know how you’d react, being from the 40’s and all...” Y/n trailed off, eyebrows furrowed a bit. Steve felt his stomach twist a bit. Y/n was scared he wouldn’t accept him being gay? “Oh sweetheart, I don’t care if you’re gay, I love you no matter what, you’re still my baby boy.”

The smile Y/n gave him put the sun to shame, making a smile spread across his own lips. “How long have you and Peter been together?” He questioned lightly, his thumb brushing over the teenagers’ knuckles. “6 months.” Y/n replied shyly, flush darkening under his father’s questioning. That continued for about an hour before Peter entered the room, and immediately the protective dad mode came out.

“So, Parker what are your intentions with my son?” Y/n let out an indignant sound, slapping his dads’ arm. Peter’s entire face flushed bright red, looking like a deer caught in headlights. “T-to make him happy, sir.” Came Peter’s shy reply, glancing over at his boyfriend for help.

“Pops, seriously? Leave him alone.” Y/n gave his father an annoyed look, making Steve shrink back slightly, his kid was slightly terrifying, okay? The father watched as the two boys interacted, watching them for a few moments, before excusing himself from the room. If he came back later and the two were curled up in bed together asleep, well he wasn’t going to say anything.

I know you might be tired of the tk discourse at this point (so feel free to ignore this ask if you want) but I just wanted to add my two cents. it's nothing new, but basically I feel like people who think taekook is real are missing something pretty big and obvious. taekook have a cute friendship. they care for each other, love each other, have similar personalities to an extent, get along well, have/had some mutual interests. however they display a lack of emotional connection that, conversely, you can find in jikook, and that the average person would expect from a romantic couple. this isn't to diminish taekook's friendship, it's simply what is observable. when jungkook is in distress, he seeks comfort in jimin, not taehyung. he has a very noticeable tendency to gravitate towards jimin (from focusing almost exclusively on him for a whole ot7 vlive to turning his whole body to him while jimin is speaking during a concert, all with gigantic heart eyes), especially when he seems nervous or anxious. when jungkook is hurt, it's jimin that stays behind with him, not taehyung. it's jikook, not taekook, that describe themselves/each other in terms that highlight their special connection: you're me I'm you, he's my catalyist, he's the person who understands me the best, I have a connection with him both on and off stage. it's jikook, not teakook, that notoriously spend an usual amount of time together off screen, sometimes in somewhat questionable situations (alone together at 4am on jungkook's birthday? ok). jungkook took jimin, not any other member, on a private trip in their free time; jimin went back to sk in the middle of his travelling just in time to celebrate jungkook's birthday, not any other member's. jungkook was going to jimin's room, not taehyung's, three times a day for hours when they were in LA. we also know jikook confide in each other and tell each other everything (remember the "the truth I've never told jimin" "then it's obviously not me" incident?); but we've never got the impression taekook do the same, on the contrary jungkook has mentioned taehyung is the only member he hasn't had heart-to-heart conversations with. it's always jikook that tend to encourage and support each other, especially about things they know the other is insecure about; note that that yes, all of bts do that with each other, but jikook always go the extra mile, always do something more, to make the other feel appreciated. it's always jikook that seem to be aware of what the other has been up to at any time, while taehyung is surprised to learn jungkook has been engaging in a certain activity lately, or has recently posted a cover on twitter, which he had no idea about. and so on. you often go on about how "you've never seen any pairing in bts do even 20% of what jikook do" and you're absolutely right, because it's not just wild stuff like hickeys and public ear sucking, it's a lot of small and big things that are right there for everyone to see and that point to a depth in their relationship that goes clearly beyond "besties" (not that the fandom acknowledges that they're good friends to start with, but, you know) and that make no sense if you think taekook are dating each other. because in this scenario, you would expect the alleged couple - taekook - to exhibit precisely these behaviours, yet they don't, while another pairing - jikook - does. why don't these things happen with taekook? why do they happen only with jikook? again, it's not to dismiss taekook's bond. it's a nice friendship, but it's very similar to most friendships in bts. from a "jikook is real" point of view, taekook (and even vmin, but that's a different beast) makes perfect sense. from a "taekook is real" point of view, jikook would be absolutely unacceptable for any self-respecting individual in a relationship. it's not a matter of taekook have done this and said that. it's a matter of there being a very specific, very visible difference between jikook and all the other pairings (not just teakook, since we're at it) in the group. and you know they can see

that, that's why they come up with all their conspiracy theories as to why taekook *can't* act like this. they know that if taekook were dating, they would act in a certain way (basically the way jikook act), but they don't, so the shippers have to find an explanation for that. it's easier to believe they aren't allowed to act like a couple rather then admitting they simply don't act like a couple because they aren't a couple.

anon wanted me to add this at the top to indicate they did not mean there was a lack of emotional connection between them, but in a romantic sense, because of course they have an emotional connection through their friendship, that’s absolutely undeniable

i feel like i’ve lost my ability over the years to provide well thought out explanations because i’ve had to do it so many times that i just get bored now, but seeing it written out like that is well put in certain parts especially about the reasonings to believe Jikook are a couple but i have some disagreements with other parts

I also want to first add that us believing Taekook aren’t romantically involved does not dismiss their friendship at all, but as soon as you provide actual reasonings and facts for why Taekook are not a couple you automatically get called an anti, when that’s not the case at all. Tae and Jungkook do have such an amazing friendship and we have been so fortunate to have watch it develop and even re develop again, however they are so disrespected by the people who say they love them but can’t accept their actual friendship, anything they do gets over analysed, they have so many very real beautiful quotes about their friendship but they get ignored for all the things which have been mistranslated.

There is one thing I absolutely want to counteract and that was the “emotional connection” point, I do believe all pairings have emotional connection and that as well of course is the case with Taekook, especially within the past couple of years, as they’ve worked through past their soop talk, but even still then they were still close they just didn’t have a one to one in that time, but that didn’t dismiss their closeness like that, of course each paring have different levels of closeness but I don’t think it would be fair to say they don’t have any emotional closeness because that’s just not true. They have still been very close friends for 10 years and they have grown up together so there are things in their friendship which only they have together just by growing up so close. They still have always been so so close, and that also means emotionally close.

They could use quotes like:

“my family is jungkook”

“helped me break out of my shell”

“in a way we were like partners in crime”

but rather than use these, they focus on ones which have been proven to be mistranslations or they overanalyse them quotes and make them all into romantic statements, their friendship gets so disrespected because they want it to be something more than that so they ignore what they actually have because they want more.

at the end of the day, every friendship and bond within an friendship group will all have different levels of closeness, connection etc and that is perfectly perfectly normal, and what we see in jikook in constant behaviour of them always been the first person to be with one another in a time of need and support, and that would make perfect sense if they are what we believe a romantic couple, but having two people being in a romantic relationship absolutely does not discredit all their other friendships, it’s just a different type of bond.

You can’t compare bonds because they are all so different and unique, and that’s what makes them all so special. But what you can do is watch reality and come to conclusions based on that, and I think what this anon was trying to say is that for years there have been so many things which only occur within Jikooks relationship and those are the reasons which make us believe in them as a couple
