Haruki and Akari.

I know I already mentioned it in my other posts, but dude, the Haruki-Akari friendship is so dear to me, and it is my business to waste my time breaking down underappreciated dynamics such as this.

The thing is, I love how great of a red-herring they are in Yakimochi no Kotae. Akari went from having a crush to this guy she really relates with (and low-key giving her a sneak peek of the pain of love as she mentioned in the 2nd novel) to still finding motivation to be a better artist and person through him even if her feelings for him are now only platonic (and as she was growing fond of Mochita more and more now). I perhaps love the connection they have and how Akari sees him perhaps bc it felt the characters more real and expanded to me. Yes, in their generation, mutual love from the beginning (except for MochiAka) was their theme, and they're obviously were the most shojo-like, but I love how (to me) gen 1 was also the most bonded with overlooked combos of characters that aren't the couple.

Maybe what I love about Haruki and Akari is the fact that it mirrors me and my class president. Sometimes you have those people you initially had a crush on, but then you'd find it even better to be your friend. I admire my president so much even if it's now platonic (I still feel happy joking around with him even if he's the one mostly joking about my height lol).

I cheer him and his doll-like gf about them living out their High school days. They were both those seen as prodigies in their squad and what they have in common (like the pressure on meeting everyone's standard especially Akari, and the same creative wavelength as artists) gives them a chance to support each other. I'm a little sad Mochita has to disrupt their moment in novel 2 lol.

I just find it cute Haruki confronting Mochita was the scene before it, and in the mv, he also bumped to Akari before she really confirmed her realizations.

So that. I just came in reading MochiAka novel 2, and I just have to appreciate Akari's friendship with Haruki, and her and Mochita as characters. I love how the novel focused on their respective passions and dreams outside of each other honestly with the help of their friends. As someone who relates to both Mochita and Akari, I'm happy to know how they were expanded and too bad we didn't see much of it on-screen (+ the painting thing in the anime was Miou's arc now... Even though it helped boost HaruMiou, it's still sad considering that part and the character pressure was more for Akari with her character and her relationship with both Mochita and Haruki esp the latter for that part).

I really love the gen 1 novels because it explored the friendship and bond of the characters outside their romantic relationships that the anime portrayed with so little justice (like dude, they really deserve winning the friendship poll lol. Their friendship is one of the points that mainly moves their plots forward).

Even gen 2 and 3 novels explore other dynamics and gives deeper character developments. That's why the novels are my favorite HoneyWorks media.

In conclusion, MochiAka novels deserve an anime in so many levels. Their story was mostly overlooked excluding KoyuRyou lol. Not only were we robbed from their sweetness, but also the gen 1 friendships that were mostly present in their story (like Midori-Mochita and Mochita-Miou are also there!!).

Okay, I'm glad for the second response! Also, I admire your on point examples as while I remember most things, it's been a while since I've read the books so there are some details I don't remember perfectly.

1. Yes, you actually have a point here, there are shop owners and musicians. I just meant, they make it seem as if there's not much to do in that world altogether. Like, think of how many work positions there are in the muggle world compared to the wizarding one. Sure, they don't need a big part of them but I just wish we had seen more people working different things. I know the series are from Harry's perspective so most people he sees are teachers or people form the Order and most work in the Ministry of Magic but still, even in Fantastic Beasts we meet only these people. There are many more professions, I believe.

2. Okay, yeah, that was a bad example but it was sorta connected to the other points and the teachers, especially DADA teachers. I'm pretty sure that everyone who attended Hogwarts during the time Harry did, learnt almost nothing from like, half of these teachers. Like, I mentioned in my og post, I'm a teacher. There's a structure, lesson plan, stuff that need to be covered, and they all seemed to be just... Doing stuff. Sure there were books and all but you can't tell me they learnt something from half of these people because we have so many examples of them not following these at all. Not to mention the cancelled exams when Harry was in second year. I like to believe the 5th and 7th year students still had their exams, seeing how this is something compared to A levels and stuff. So my point was, there were definitely things that weren't learned at school (even if they should be).

Thoo, now I actually have a following thought - it is said that Harry and Ron never went back for year 7, and I think the Weasley twins also didn't finish their education? So maybe years 6 and 7 were sort of for more advanced stuff. And maybe you can't become like, teacher or doctor if you don't.

3. Yeah, and I'm actually so glad they included that auror training because that would have been otherwise really weird.

I agree it's old fashioned, yeah. Not to mention that the majority of teachers are really old too. I think it was said wizards live longer than muggles? Wasn't Dumbledore 100+? I bet most teachers were over 70. So that now just creates an even bigger problem, in my head.. 😅😅

4. Oh, yeah, like, I don't dislike Dumbledore but I absolutely do not agree with a lot of things he did either. Like, there was reasoning behind most of these and that lots of the decisions he made weren't in favour of Hogwarts but as a whole for the Wizarding World (or so he believed) but still. I love Hagrid but even Harry decided to not continue his class. And Lockhart... I don't know what to say, actually. I understand about some of the others, he didn't have much of a choice when it came to Umbridge, he didn't really know Quirell, he wanted to give Hagrid a chance. Same can be said for Remus too, tho I think choosing a werewolf, even if he was in fact the most competent, was also alarming. But Lockhart... Ugh.

Not to mention, he was literally putting these DADA teachers in risk because chances something happened to them was big.

I somewhat think that it was better the school where they actually teach them to use their powers was more important than the Ministry, tho.

5. Okay, here I had to elaborate a bit. I think a teacher should be good in what they're doing and want to do it, too. Yes, it's important they want to teach but it's also important that they're actually competent to do so. Both in being able to handle children, and having a good approach towards the subject. I have many coworkers that really love children but I still wouldn't say they're the best when it comes to teaching them the things they have to just because they lack certain... Skills. And let's take for example Hagrid again, so it'll be more understandable. He liked his position but he definitely wasn't a good teacher.

I don't want to defend Snape, in fact, I think that lots of the students would have had fared better in Potions if he wasn't acting the way he was but I think it was mostly just making them not want to put much effort. I believe Hermione had good gades in Potions despite Snape being a jerk to her too. I agree that he maybe didn't teach them theories and all but I believe that Hermione was good in potions before year 6 because the recipes Snape gave for Potions were the ones he had changed like in his old book, not the ones they had to actually use. So, I think he was teaching them the right things but he really wasn't putting more than the needed effort in it, and his lack of desire was reflecting on them. When it comes to Harry, I think it was a kind of biased point of view here, born from his hatred for Snape and therefore lack of interest in the subject. Snape was incredibly bad when it came to handling children. So, yeah, he wasn't a good teacher as in total lack of social skills, but he was competent and they had some chance of learning something there (compared to some of the other teachers, that is).

I can honestly make a whole post only about the teaching, tho.

6. Yeah, that was basically my point here. There must have been many teachers and they, for one reason or another, ended their career after one year. So I can sort of see how there wasn't much of a choice left than hire anyone who applied but also if I have learned one thing is, if there's a constant need for employees somewhere or for some position in the case, there must be a good reason so DON'T APPLY. 😅😅

Man, zhu bajie n tang sanzang had to b up there w swk about their mischaracterization n hated in lmk fandom

I have never seen so much mishandling as i seen with those three characters 😭😭(like bro i get that the most noticeable arc that ppl retain is the white bone spirit arc bc of OSP BUT THEY DIDNT STUCK TO THAT CHARACTERISTICS IN THE LATER ARCS LIKE CMON NOW—bajie couldn’t even lie about the dragon piss medicine in a later arc, what makes yall think he’s always a fantastic liar. Theres some benefit to his lying but they also backfire. BAJIE DO END UP LIKING EVERYONE LIKE HE REFER TO SWK AS ELDER BROTHER!<- no man could ever live up to the wonder of zhu wuneng. He just sweet n he does get a fantastic arc in the novel!

Tang sanzang does have some(albeit rare moments where hes nice but his asshoole moments sometimes intertwined) where hes like “yea my disciples r greats but theyre mad ugly.” Or that he gets better at having more trust in his disciples besides zhu wuneng. Even if its followed by hella traumatizing moments that no human person would remain sane like that. <hes just barely holding on by his faith, his mission and his disciples. Not his horse bc he cant hold on to save his life but that character arc where he DIDNT FELL OFF THOO!>

Monkie Kid spoilers below

Hmmm I know about the Sun Wukong & Tang Sanzang dunking but is that happening with Zhu Bajie too? Have to say I find that a little surprising given that (if memory serves correctly) Monkie Kid did say Zhu Bajie's main fault (well besides the whole being a man-eating yaoguai thing) was being stubborn, but then lego Patriarch Subodhi said he became one of the hardest workers of the pilgrimage. I guess I was under the impression that people were more light on their criticisms and thoughts about Zhu Bajie, but maybe that's just because he doesn't seem to be a point of great interest in the lego show fandom lol.

Kind of funny story anon but I've been vicariously growing in awareness on how much Zhu Bajie is loved in China through @antidotefortheawkward's posts about the pigman. And yeah, I can see that being in large part because Xiyouji in its totality does give a very different impression of who these characters are and where they end up than a cartoony summary can provide. As a number of people on this site have noted for example, the White Bone Demon Arc can be understood in a much more complex light than "Tang Sanzang & Zhu Bajie hurt poor monkey for nothing" when placed in the context of it being more near the beginning of the journey when the pilgrims were still grating against each other a lot & it happening very soon after the whole debacle with the Ginseng fruit tree. Here after all you can see how the monk has a recent history of getting into serious trouble from the monkey lying and being quick to destruction, so he would be primed to not believe SWK, not to mention he does hesitate to use the headband against SWK more than many give him credit for here. And YEAH given all the things they go through together I am more willing to accept a Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie enemies to friends arc than that put on many another character.

Also LMAOOOOO Tang Sanzang DOES seem to have quite a few lines where he tries to comfort terrified individuals by telling them that the pilgrims are good people even with their rancid looks (ugly pilgrim rights <3). And oh dang anon you are so right about how even if Tang Sanzang is much more of a static character in comparison to SWK it's kind of a shame more attention isn't given to the series of horrifying events he goes through and what effect that would have on him so that he gets a little more depth than "weepy monk who's mean to the Monkey King & falls off his dragon horse" in the popular western imagination. But then again I can understand why the monk's trauma is largely downplayed in western cartoony retellings, given that said lighthearted cartoony retellings probably wouldn't be the best medium to even touch on stuff like human butchery, death threats, sexual assault, and the consequences thereof.

He stands next to Alfred, unmoving, still, and so, so quiet. “Richard Grayson,” he answers, forcing himself to pull his attention back. “The night of the… accident. He’s disfigured, like the crime scene photos showed.” Plip. Plip. “He hasn’t stopped bleeding.”

“Okay. Is Richard in this room with us, Bruce?”

We’ve hosted several events at Jovoy since they opened, including a remarkable alcohol and fragrance pairing evening (which was every bit as wonderful as that sounds) and, most recently, our co-founder Jo Fairley interviewing maverick perfumer Geza Schoen about his Beautiful Mind Series fragrances. Incidently, Jovoy have their very own Private Label fragrance range – for Jovoy is actually a revived and re-imagined fragrance house that once scented the bohemian A-List of 1920s Parisian bohemians. You can read about the history of Jovoy on our page dedicated to them.
