scheming. plotting, even.
"Maleficent. Charmed, I'm sure."
Red shakes the outstretched hand as quickly as possible. No biggie, just shaking hands with the most evil villain of all time, the person who's eventually going to be responsible for getting not just Red and her mom, but literally every interesting villain and henchman and sidekick exiled from Auradon. Forever.
"Yeah, you could say that. So, what are you doing here?"
Young Maleficent arches one perfect eyebrow up towards her horns. "Attending class. And you?"
Right.
"I mean, same. Obviously," Red scoffs "I'm just here, in class...attending class."
The corner of Maleficent's mouth twitches. "On a cosmic level, I'm here because I was compelled by the stars to attend class today."
This is getting her nowhere.
Yeah, okay," Red agrees, even though she's pretty sure she understands even less about Maleficent's motivations since they started this conversation. "I don't really do astrology, so if you wanna tell me what that actually means..."
"It means I'm here because the fates aligned to bring me here today. And you're here because of magic."
"No, I’m totally not.”
Shit.
They're gonna be found out for sure if Maleficent is on to them. So long, Wonderland. Bye-bye, Auradon. Red's going to a special layer of hell. the one reserved for idiots who reveal their whole plan to the biggest, baddest villains ever to walk the earth.
Maleficent laughs, and reaches out to grab Red's hand again. "Child, I can smell it on your skin. You're here for exactly the same reason as myself and my companions."
"I'm pretty sure I'm not..."
"Don't play stupid. It's the time discrepancies. There's a...what do you humans call it?"
Okay.
So Maleficent isn't human.
Cool. Cool cool cool.
"Um?" Red squeaks "I don't? Know?"
"A time distortion. A bubble."
Oh, no.
"Nope, I don't know anything about any time travel," Red says, quick as can be. "I'm here because my--our father, he, um, he fell on some hard times, and he-- that is, he didn't send in our transfer paperwork, so if I smell like I shouldn't be here, that's gotta be it, nothing like time travel, who said I know anything about time travel?"
"You did. Just now."
Haha.
Ahahahaha.
"I meant to say that I've never even heard of time travel," Red lies through the biggest smile she can plaster on her face and still speak through. "But if you know anything, then I want to learn it too. You can tell me."
Maleficent's eyes narrow. "Funny. You're a funny one, Red. Ulyana doesn't like her lackeys being too smart, but funny... I can work with that."
"What."
"Please. Don't play the fool. We're here because of the time manipulation going on in this iteration of the Merlin Academy timeline, as are yourself and your sweet little blue companion. I don't know what you want out of the changes, but I know that you're here because of them. Hades and myself are here to... well."
"What?"
"I don't know if I can trust you with that information yet," Maleficent says, flickering a forked tongue out to lick her lips. "Not unless I know I can trust you."
"I'm trustworthy."
Maleficent grins, and Red gives herself a singular moment to wish that she hadn't looked at the pointed teeth in that awfully wet mouth. Ugh. Dragons are worse than jabberwocky when it comes to oral hygiene, apparently.  "Mm, no you’re not. At least, not yet."

More Descendants 4: Rise of Red lol
The songs slap, at first, only the first song really stuck with me, but after watching it a million times they’re all actually good. I think life is sweeter was giving final song energy, like how set it off and break this down did. The only thing I will say, is I still don’t like the choreography of fight of our lives, not sure why, just didn’t love it
Chloe’s goddamn wig. It bothers me so much because I swear ever scene she’s got a different one, and like ???? What was the reason?
Uma reprising what’s my name, iconic. My only question about that, is where are Harry and Gil? Harry is supposed to be her first mate, and she’s got a bunch of pirates with her, but those two aren’t there. I know Gil wanted to travel with Jay, so fine, but Harry Hook would’ve been great because we get to see Young Hook in the past
Uliana. What is/was her fate in present time? We know Ursula had Uma, and so she’s obviously Uma’s aunt, but like, what if she never became a villain after school and wasn’t on the isle? (Wishful thinking I know) but is her present ever mentioned? Did I miss it lol?
We never see Anastasia or Drizella, and I wish we had seen at least Drizella because I loved Dizzy so much
When Chloe and Red get back to present time, wouldn’t everyone recognize them from the past? Everyone they interacted with? Ella and Bridget, Jasmine and Aladdin, Charming, Fair Godmother. I guess we only saw a few minutes of them after they returned to the present so maybe that’s what Chloe and Cinderella are thinking when they find each other at the end.
Also last thing for now, the casting was really good, for present and young actors. Like Fae and Fairy Godmother, Jasmine and Aladdin, Charming and Prince Charming, Hook and Harry even though Harry wasn’t in this one.

Gabriel Agreste Must Die
I have no idea what inspired this but I just thought this would be funny. It Salt towards Gabriel. So enjoy. Warning Gaslighting ahead
Nino never thought that, out of everyone in the entire world, he would be the one to figure out Gabriel Agreste was Hawkmoth. Granted, it wasn’t like he had done he any searched or used any expert detective or journalism skills. No, instead he had been hanging out at Marinette’s; getting his butt handed to him in Ultimate Mecha Strike III. Alya chilling as she scrolled through her phone. Chloe, who they somehow managed to become friends with, was taking selfies in Marinette’s newest design outfits.
Nino knew it was because the blonde had proven herself to be a good hero and loyal ally. So when Marinette, the new Guardian now that Fu was gone, that more permanent heroes were needed, she brought in Chloe, along with Nino and Alya. It was then that Ladybug and Chat Noir revealed their identities to them and to each other.
It had been one hell of a shock. But they all became really good friends. Though any crushes the original heroes had died. It turned out Marinette thought of Chat Noir as a brother. And Adrien just couldn’t see Marinette in that light. It was for the best. Alya had been pissed about the love square thing.
That had been over a year ago, and the heroes had all become really good friends; banding together against anyone (Lila or Gabriel) who tried to tear them apart.
They had been talking about the recent akuma attacks, when Nino got a text from Adrien apologizing for not being able to hang out.
“Adrien can’t come,” Nino glared at the screen. “His dad’s got him working late.”
“Again?” Alya asked. “He does know what child labor laws are right?”
           Chloe scoffed, “Like he cares.”
“Still, we should do something,” Marinette frowned as she rapidly pressed buttons on her controller. “This isn’t right.”
“Like what?” Nino asked, already gracefully accepting yet another defeat. “He’s Gabriel Agreste. He’s as big of an asshole as Hawkmoth; and I didn’t think that was possible.”
As soon as he said those words, something just clicked. Everyone in the room suddenly paused as they processed the words in their minds.
Nino slowly put down her controller, “It’s not possible, is it? That level of asshole-dom can’t possibly be reached by two different people in the same city, at the same time, in the same universe. There’s no way.”
“Even my mom left once Gabriel took power,” Chloe added. “And she’s a total bitch but she knew that Paris couldn’t handle both a Queen Bitch and the King of the Assholes fighting it out.”
Marinette’s eyes narrowed as she considered everything they knew about hawkmoth and Gabriel Agreste, “When did Adrien say he last saw mom.”
“Three years ago,” Chloe answered. “Sometime near the end of January, I remember. It was before Valentine’s day as I had been planning yet another amazing party.”
“Alya, when was the first akuma attack?” Marinette asked.
“One sec, I’ll look,” The glasses-wearing girl said and as she frantically researched. When Alya was done, she looked up at them with a dark expression on her face. “February 4th, three years ago.”
“Gabriel has a book on Kwami,” Marinette told them. “He uses it for ‘inspiration.’”
After that, suddenly they were recalling all the little ‘coincidences’ they overlooked involving anything Agreste related and Hawkmoth; it all added up to something no one could deny.
“Gabriel is Hawkmoth,” Alya whispered stunned. “Adrien’s dad is Hawkmoth. We always said Gabriel was a monster but damn, really?”
“What do we do?” Chloe asked. “What can we do? Hawkmoth is too powerful; especially with Mayura on his side.”
Marinette nodded but there was a thoughtful look on his face, “Hawkmoth is strong but Gabriel is human like the rest of us. He has his flaws, his weaknesses; cracks in his facade.”
“Mom always said Gabriel was nuts,” Chloe said. “On the edge of his sanity. One good push…”
Marinette shrugged, “If we can’t defeat the villain…”
“…Then we break the man behind the mask,” Alya smirked,
Nino growled, “Gabriel Agreste Must Die.”
The next day after school; the heroes met up again at Marinette and sat Adrien down to talk.
It turned getting Adrien on board with the plan was difficult. He wasn’t hard to convince him that Gabriel was Hawkmoth, though it did take a while for him to stop throwing up. However, there was thing the blond boy wouldn’t budge on…
“You’re not killing my dad!” Adrien told them.
Nino nodded calmly and folded his hands on his lap, “I get where you’re coming from, dude. I totally do,” He told his best friend. “But hear me out. Your dad? He really sucks.”
Adrien shot his friends an incredulous look, “And you think that’s a good enough reason to kill him?”
“Well, yeah,” Nino shrugged. “I mean we talked about this before.”
Alya pushed her ex-boyfriend turned one of her bestie out of the way, “You’re dad is a megalomaniac magical terrorist that’s been destroying Paris, turning people into monsters, and killing innocents. Sure the damaged gets reversed but the victims, who aren’t Akumatized, still have to deal with the freaking trauma.”
“There are support groups for it,” Marinette said. “People remember dying; drowning, burning, crashing; it’s terrible.” She sighed, “However, we can’t just murder someone. It’s wrong.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. It would be wrong not kill him,” Chloe told them. “The amount of time and effort it would save us is nearly too much to count. And the amount of relief all of Paris would feel knowing he was gone is out of this world.  We can stop SO many people from getting hurt if I call my mom’s guy Fredro, and Gabriel has a little ‘accident’.”
Nino shot up, “See! Chloe agrees,” He shot a victorious look at Alya and Marinette.
Alya snorted, “Chloe thought burning Gabriel at the stake was good idea.”
“What?!!” Adrien looked at his oldest friend, shock on his face. “What?!!”
Chloe shrugged, “There’s no such thing as a bad idea. And It was a suggestion..”
“A good one,” Nino added. “And why does it sound like your mom has a hitman on speed dial?”
Chloe scoffed, “Hitman? Don’t be so crass. Fredro is former MI6. My mom used to work with him. He’s so good even Shield only had the slightest idea he exists.” She looked at her childhood friend with a softest expression anyone had ever seen on her face. “No one would ever know. If you want, he doesn’t even have to feel like a thing. Gabriel goes to sleep one night, and doesn’t wake up in the morning. It’ll look like a heart attack. Trust me, my mother only works with the best.”
“I have a lot of questions about your mother,” Alya said. “And what type of work she did with a former MI6 agent. But we’re gonna circle back to that. That fact is, Adrien, it’s up to you.”
“He’s your dad,” Marinette agreed. “Plus; its two to two. Me and Alya who don’t want to go to prison. And the two psychos who are more than willing to.”
Nino huffed and moved to stand next to Chloe, “Well, I’m feeling a little called out right now.”
“I told you we should’ve just handled this last night,” Chloe crossed her arms. “Just the two us. Ditch the Halos at home,” She motioned to Marinette, who didn’t like the idea of killing, and Alya, who didn’t want to make the choice with Adrien’s approval. “Bury that asshole alive.”
“Nah, they’d have known it was us,” Nino shook his head. “The second Gabriel doesn’t show up for something he’s supposed to, Marinette’s knocking on my door. I’m always a suspect. Gabriel nearly got killed by a falling headlight during a fashion show in New York, and Alya still gave me suspicious looks for days. Jerk’s literally on the other side of the world, and I’m still the primary suspect.”
Chloe looked contemplative, “…Didn’t you say you had a cousin in New York?”
“You a cop?” Nino asked. “No? Then stop asking so many questions.”
Adrien sighed, “I’m sorry, guys; we can’t kill my dad.”
Alya nodded firmly, “Then option two. We’re rip apart his sanity, destroy his reputation; tear apart everything that makes Gabriel Agreste, Gabriel Agreste until there’s nothing left except the miserable, sorry excuse for man and father, that he really is.”
“Oh but I’m inhumane?” Nino glared. “I was just gonna cut the breaks in Gabriel’s ride. Take him and Nathalie out at the same time. But, yeah, sure, breaking him to the point where he’s ripping out his own hair and locked away in a padded room is a noble cause as any.”
“And yet we’re the evil ones? Really?” Chloe rolled her eyes. “Fine. Whatever. Let’s gaslight the bitch.”
Adrien looked up at the ceiling just so freaking done with world. “What we do first?”
“Your dad’s a total control freak,” Alya said. “We got to make him feel like he’s losing control.”
Marinette looked over Adrien, “You’re gonna need tight leather pants, chapstick… And how do feel about piercings?”
“That they look like they hurt!” Adrien protested.
Chloe shoved his shoulder, “Beauty’s pain, woman up!”
“Why do I need chapstick?” Adrien whined.
“You can’t make out with Scott with dry lips!”
“Make out?” Adrien’s face turned bright red. “And who’s Scott?”
Nino shook his head, “You’re asking a lot of questions for someone who was against the Murder plan.”
It turned out Scott was Marinette’s cousin. His mom Melissa was Tom’s half-sister. He was handsome tall sixteen-year-old with olive brown skin, curly dark brown hair, and a crooked jaw. When Adrien met him he was wearing a leather jacket and big happy smile on his face.  Adrien couldn’t stop looking at him.
He had come out as bisexual to his friends months ago but had only briefly experimented with Luka in the kissing department. Marinette had stumbled upon and quickly squeaked, turned red, and scampered off. Though Adrien did have to deal with her grumbles about having dips. To which Adrien replied, “You snooze, you lose.”
Scott was with a brown haired, pale skinned, gangly guy, with lots moles and a rather pretty redhead.
“Oh come on!” The pale guy complained when he saw Adrien. He looked at Scott. “What leprechaun did you sacrifice so that you got the fucking luck in the world? First the Disney princess Alison, then badass ‘she could stab me and I’d thank her’ Kira, and now Apollo’s freaking love child. No! It’s not fair.”
“Dude!” Scott complained. “Stiles, you’re dating Derek.”
Stiles suddenly looked really smug, “Yeah I know,” He smirked. “But this isn’t about us. This is about all the other Scotts and Stiles’ of the world who are still growing out of their loser stage. Give them a chance, bro.”
The redhead rolled her eyes, “Hi I’m Lydia!” She introduced to the young heroes. “The loud moron is Stiles. The moron who’s been drooling since he saw you is Scott.”
Scott reared back, and started to quick wipe his mouth, “Man, am I drooling?”
“A little,” Stiles shrugged. “I just thought it was moon thing, you know?”
Lydia ignored them, “I love your dress. It’s an MDC, yes? Up in coming designer, so chic!”
Marinette smiled, “Thanks. It took forever to design this.”
The redhead paused, “You designed?” She looked stunned for a moment before glaring at Scott. “Is your cousin MDC? Did you not tell me your cousin was MDC?”
It was a little hilarious how quickly Scott stepped back in fear of girl a foot shorter than him.
“About why we’re here,” Alya decided to intervene before blood was drawn. “Adrien, this is Scott. He’ll be your boyfriend for as long as he’s Paris.” She looked between Scott and Adrien and smirked. “And I have no idea who I should congratulate.”
“Me,” Scott let slip as he stared at Adrien in a daze.
Pictures of Adrien Agreste making out with Scott were everywhere an hour later. Adrien tweeted his response, “I’m Bisexual. So what? To quote Taylor Swift: You need to Calm down.”
The tweet was the first thing that made Gabriel realize something was very, very wrong.
Adrien went home and was met the angry expressions of his father and Nathalie. It was time for step to.
Before either could yell at him. “I quit,” Adrien said. “No more modeling. No more anything I don’t want to do. This is not up for debate. I’m not asking. You can’t make me. And if you try to take me out of school; my friends will public with all the evidence of all times you broke child labors. And if you think I’m bluffing, a copy of the evidence was sent to Nathalie’s email.” He gave them hard looks. “You will go to prison. Try me. It’s over,” Adrien told them but didn’t add that it was in more ways that one.
He walked passed them; only sparing a glance to see the stunned looks on their faces.
Adrien knew his father wouldn’t back down. This was only the beginning.
Unfortunately for Gabriel, he would be far too busy putting out the fires of his burning empire to have any time to rein back in his son.
During the middle of the night, while everyone was sleeping, an anonymous user *cough Alya* released videos of Gabriel verbally berating his employees for the smallest things, and firing them. It was not a good look.
The Gabriel brand took a hit. The first of many.
Over the next few weeks; Gabriel found himself forgetting things. First he found a box of imported silk that Nathalie swore he called her himself to have her order, and he saw the call logged in his phone but for the life of him he couldn’t remember making the call. Then it was scheduling meetings, ordering lunches or coffee that he couldn’t remember doing. Then he forgot where put things.
For example, one time Gabriel swore he took out his sketchbook from his briefcase and sat it on his desk and left for a meeting. However, when he returned, it wasn’t there. And He nearly went raving mad trying to find it. Only for Nathalie to take it out of his brief case.
The suit he had laid out for him the night before would be an entirely different color than the one he remembered putting out but then Nathalie would tell him that he ordered her himself to have it pressed.
It was little thing and big little just slightly out of place that started to grate on his nerves.
“The stress,” Nathalie told him. “It’s getting to you. Perhaps a vacation is in order”
“I’m fine,” He waved her off. “How is the plan to pull Adrien back in?
Nathalie frowned, “Nothing. He’s still going strong with his boyfriend, a young Scott McCall. Every time we try anything, a new video of Adrien, uh, at work, is released to the media. CPS and the police knocked on our doors three times already. Next time, I fear, they may take him. Amelie Graham de Vanily has been spotted in town, speaking with several lawyers. My sources say she will attempt for custody if CPS deems you unfit.”
“Nothing of the sort will happen,” Gabriel sneered. “I will not lose my son; not to my sister in law, and not to some American boy. Tell Adrien, we will have dinner together. I will talk some sense into him myself.”
That was his plan at least.
However, Gabriel found himself waking up in the morning, in his pajamas, utterly confused. “Nathalie, when did I go sleep?”
She looked confused, “Around midnight, sir. You had dinner with Adrien, and then had to rush off to take a call from Audrey.”
“I… had dinner with Adrien?” Gabriel asked. “Are you sure? I don’t remember. And I didn’t talk with Audrey, did i?”
Nathalie suddenly looked very concerned. “Sir, I was there. Adrien and you had a lovely conversation about his school and him going back to modeling. Adrien decline. You tried to protest but Audrey called. You two argued for an hour. I was there the entire time. You really don’t remember?”
           No, Gabriel didn’t.
A week later, after a series of incidents. One of which apparently he had ordered Nathalie to take him to a salon and walked out with blue hair, but couldn’t remember when he woke up the next day. And swore he hadn’t.
“I’ve scheduled a meeting with doctor,” Nathalie told him. “We’re going to get you looked at, okay.”
It was the first of many, many doctor visits. Until one day Adrien came home and His aunt was there with Nathalie. They told him that his father went on a little “vacation” for a while.
It turned out the vacation was a very luxurious mental institution.

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐞𝐝
𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐞𝐝
Katsuki Bakugo had an unkempt personality. Loud, aggressive, and always sour. His voice poured into anyone’s eardrums like honey, wanting, or unwanting.
On the playing field he was the strongest, always tried at least. And it felt like you always were watching his back 10 steps behind, but it didn’t matter when all you could be thankful for is that this angle allowed you to watch him.
And to you, when looking up at Bakugo Katsuki, laid a path of flowers behind him - so why not follow the prettiest route to reach him?
𝐈 𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝
It was sickly how much Katsuki Bakugo consumed your thoughts. How could so a hectic being be so wanting within your head?
Nobody would ever know though. It was your little secret only you and your pillow knew when you’d create scenarios and squeal into it.
Or when tears shed for him.
Whatever the reason the disease of Katsuki Bakugou had invaded your brain, it was nice to dream such pleasant dreams of him. Making you want him more. And hope, that one day, he’d look at you the way you want him too.
𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈’𝐦 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥
𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐛 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭
𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞
You always knew the system was questionable. Children trained to fight, you suppose everyone had their reason...
It wasn’t until the first attack - when you saw how broken everyone was. Bags under their eyes, walking mindlessly around the dorms, the silent cries. Mina slipping into your room in the middle of the night to sleep or else she’d have nightmares, Kirishima sitting in the corner of the lounge blankly staring off, Deku staring constantly at his scars.
And Bakugo?
Showed nothing. Just stalked into the lounges like his usual self. A grimace on his face.
Pity shown through his eyes, you could tell. But he did nothing to comfort the broken students.
You wondered if he’d been affected at all.
“Weakness isn’t something the number 1 hero has.” You remember him belt out once in one of his common outbursts in class.
Guess he was the perfect hero then. He was always perfect in your eyes.
𝐒𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬
𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨
After countless thoughts and dreams of Katsuki Bakugo, you made sure to always be a good classmate to him. Agreeing to his words, listening closely in his rambles, cheering him on when needed.
And when he walks into your math class, smiling at him when he sits at the assigned desk beside you. He never looks at you though, always looking straight ahead and sitting down with a boom.
So then the next day you say in a shy whisper “Good Morning Bakugou.”
And he’d once again not turn to you, just nod acknowledgment. But what’s a hero with no determination? And determination was driving you to make him see you.
But how pitiful you were.
“Extra. Hey. Dumbass. You with the ring.”
Your head turned to see who Bakugo was speaking with, only to be met with gorgeous velvet eyes. This made your heart race and ears turn hot.
“Me?” You whispered back. He only rolled his eyes and nodded. “I forgot to grab my pencil case from shitty hair, can you give me one?” He grumbled out, annoyed like he was the one who was being asked for a pencil. You complied neatly, grabbing your best pencil, making sure it was sharp and clean, and passing it to him so delicately. He grabbed it harshly and muttered thanks.
“My name is actually-”
“I don’t care extra.”
𝐈’𝐦 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥
𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐛 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭
𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐞
You wished you’d always be content with watching Bakugou back. You wished you stayed happy always seeing him take more steps forwards than everyone else.
But you were an aspiring hero too. And you’d do anything to achieve those top ranks. Anything to be not behind him, or in front of him - but beside him.
So you added extra training, extra runs, asked anyone for an extra brawl. Whatever it would take to make sure you had a place, to showcase you were meant to be there.
Then why can’t you breathe? Why are spitting blood while gripping your burnt chest? Why are you kneeling pitifully in front of Katsuki Bakugo? For a moment, a miserable moment, you thought you could fight him. Keep him on his toes. Prove to him what you were capable of. That’s how you ended on the ground while everyone watched.
But you didn’t want to see their faces, you wanted to see his. Regrettably, you did, your eyes met his velvet ones. The ones that made a shade of red your favorite color. The ones that were in slits, glaring with a scowl on his lips. Disappointment, no, no, it was his realization of how useless you were.
God, he was impeccable, he never lost. And when he did, it was unnoticed because he’d get back to stronger. More rage held in his fist and more strength in his kicks.
“You look stupid down there. Get up.” He spits out before turning on his heels, walking away from the small battle ring. Leaving you to wallow in the realization that you’ll never get even a step closer to Bakugo Katsuki in this world.
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤
𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤
𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞?
Bakugo never looked your way. Never even acknowledged your presence. And who could blame him?
Who would be mad at him for doing so when you laid in the rubble of an island you were supposed to protect, useless.
You were thankful though to see such a phenomenal scene as Deku and Bakugo painted the sky with such colors. It was truly amazing, he was amazing. Sheer strength and power.
You felt pathetic. Useless and unworthy. All these emotions flooding in as you continued watching while You laid in rubble, adrenaline, and shock keeping you awake to watch this phenomenon of two heroes. You wondered if anyone else was watching what your eyes were seeing. If anyone else is laying woefully in failure like you and looking up to the sky.
If not, this was sure a secret you’d take to the grave if you had to.
You questioned what was going through their heads at this moment, what an odd thought but curiosity of the mind always intrigued you. Do their hands tremble slightly too when knowing everything lays in their power to overcome? Do doubts crawl desperately to the front when they miss an opportunity to strike? Do they also think they aren’t able to achieve what they must?
Of course not. They aren’t you. They aren't insecure, fragile minded heroes like you. Who couldn’t even get fucking back up after falling into a deep pit of broken down rubble of some rocks? It hurts so much.
Bakugo would be so angry seeing you in this state. Questioning you if you even belonged within the hero course. But he had to know you kept fighting, you were still fighting. Fighting the pain, fighting to keep your eyes open, fighting just to make sure he was going to beat this villain.
Fighting the voice that screamed ever so loudly all your apprehensions about everything you’ve ever done. He would never want you. He won’t ever look at you unless it’s with disgust.
But you were desperate, so so desperate to be noticed, seen, known that you were strong enough to exist. So with a deep, painful breath and anything you could muster with a rib stabbing into your lung, you made it known.
“GO MIDORIYA.” One more breath, please just one more. “GO BAKUGO.”
𝐈’𝐦 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥
𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐛 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝
𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭
𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞
𝐈 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭
𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞
It felt like clawing, ripping at any sort of opening within this dark room you had fallen trapped within.
He was the perfect silhouette to become a hero. Besides his anger, he no doubt was someone who could save millions in the near future.
You idolized him, created this ideology that he was beyond compare. That nothing could break the Bakugo Katsuki. Even when it came to comparing him between Midorya, Todoroki, and Tokayami, he was ideal.
He was so ideal that it was a shock when Shigarki’s quirk impaled him. Making you scream in distraught and watch Deku push himself further into this self-destructed rage. Bakugo Katsuki could not fall, yet there he laid. Panting, wheezing as he held onto his stomach on the ground. The battle continues just mere feet ahead.
Your feet moved faster than your brain could process, rushing to be the first beside Bakugo, to drag him further from the prominent danger ahead. “Bakugo?! Keep putting pressure, eyes open okay?” Your arms scooping his neck, making sure a grip was on his shoulder as you pulled his body to shelter behind a piece of a building.
You realized Bakugou was human. A human who bled and felt pain. A human who cried when overwhelmed and scared. A human who could die. “Y/N, I-I don’t wanna die. I can’t die, I have to fight.”
He finally used your name. It should’ve felt good, amazing to be known. Though the way his voice cracked, throat hissing to function made your heart to drown in sorrow. Bakugo Katsuki was a scared boy, crying in your hands as blood pooled around him and swelled in his mouth. “Katsuki you won’t die, that would be the cause of weakness and remember what you said, weakness isn’t something the number 1 hero has...okay?” It was a jumble of words, something to guide him into assurance as you accessed the damages to his vital organs. To make sure any more blood wasn’t lost you had to pick up the red rag left by someone during this battle, pressing it down to his stomach, making him cry out in agony. fuck fuck fuck. “Where the fuck are the pro heroes?!” You screamed, eyes stinging at this situation. Eyes stinging because Bakugo Katsuki’s eyes were closing and breath was shallow. Eyes stinging because a boy laid limp in front of you. A boy who was supposed to become number 1.
“Please wake up... Bakugo? Please? Common you have too. You’re supposed to be the perfect hero, so please wake up! PLEASE.”

MASTERLIST | FIRST | PREV | AO3
Something wasn’t right and no, it didn’t take Wally having to see fog outside Amira’s bedroom to know that.
He had been on the phone with Dick, telling him of Amira’s stress baking when the chilly afternoon became a dark, foggy evening.
Rolls of mist covered the Parisian roads, people yelling out to each other as they stumbled to find each other.
“Dick. I have to call you back.” Wally said as he scrambled around the room in search of his suitcase.
To think he would need Barry’s gift so soon.
“Back? Wally what is-“ Wally hung up when he found the comms, his eyes darting around the room until he found a box tucked under the desk labeled ‘utilities.’
Rummaging around it, he grabbed some flashlights, batteries and some goggles before heading into the Parisian street.
He thought the fog was bad from behind the window, but now standing in...it was a nightmare.
Amira, please...be safe...
Fishing for his phone, Wally quickly scrolled through his contacts until he found Amira’s and began to call it.
The longer the call rang, the more Wally began to worry.
When his call didn’t get through, he tried again, turning on the goggles, taken aback at how high tech they were.
The perks of being rich he guessed.
When he noticed that the night vision wouldn’t work in this situation, Wally switched over to thermal, running into the school across the street and up the stairs.
“Marinette!” Wally yelled, holding back the urge to yell out her real name. But he knew better than that.
He knew better than to yell out Amira’s real identity.
“Marinette! Where are you?” Wally yelled out again, looking to see if anyone reacted to the name. That’s when he noticed a heat carefully walked towards the doorway of a classroom on the second floor.
“Hello?” A Parisian asked him, Wally biting his tongue. Damn it!
“Listen, do you speak English?”
“A little.” The person said back.
“That’s fine. Do you know where Marinette is? Do you know what happened to-”
“She was akumatized!” The person bellowed back, Wally feeling his heart stop.
Amira...Amira is the akuma? She...she got akumatized...by Hawkmoth?
How? This wasn’t part of the plan she told him last night!
Snapping from his spiraling thoughts, Wally cupped his hands around his mouth.
“What caused it?” Wally asked, wondering what the hell happened to Amira that caused her to lose control of her emotions.
What caused her to snap?
“She had a little argument over a boy with her classmate. About a boy named...Jason.”
Holy shit.
“No, no, no, no.” Wally muttered to himself, digging his hands into his hair, hating the answer to his questions.
“Are you-” The person asked, Wally seeing them almost hit with the balcony in front of them.
“Stop! Don’t leave the classroom! Stay in there and wait for La-Chat Noir and the team to arrive.” Wally managed to say, his brain running through every possible situation to help him cope with the idea that Amira was somewhere out there, distorted by her emotions…
Alone..dealing with emotions she never liked lingering in for too long...walking with her baggage of pain...and guilt…
Wait...the person said she was arguing with someone who knew Jason...but how was that possible?
“-can do for you?” Wally managed to register, running up the stairs and walked into the classroom, shutting the door behind him.
“I need you to tell me what exactly happened before Marinette got akumatized and don’t you dare try to cover up any details. If you do…” Wally closed his eyes and took a deep breath, hoping he wouldn’t jinx the situation. “This akuma may become your livelihood for a very long time and not only that...this maybe be the Miraculous Team’s last fight and be Hawkmoth’s victory.”
---
Adrien held Chloe close as she continued to grip at his shirt, her body shaking violently as she muttered incoherent words. Tears ruined her makeup, her eyes bloodshot red as Chloe remained curled against Adrien’s shirt.
“Adrikins...you’re still there...right?”
“I’m still here.” Adrien assured, hugging Chloe closer to him.
“Maman and Daddy… I saw them die before my eyes. And I saw Sabrina and Mari...they..they also-”
“You don’t have to tell me.” Adrien hushed, turning to where Plagg was despite not being able to see anything but his glowing green eyes.
After Mari-Banshee caused Chloe to collapse and then disappeared from his sight, Adrien ordered Nino and Sabrina to head back to the class while he took care of Chloe.
Carefully dragging her to the locker room, Adrien began to softly talk to her, holding her hands as he tried to think of a way to lessen the effect of Banshee’s power on Chloe so that he could-
“-help her.” Cloe muttered out, Adrien feeling her hesitantly push herself away from him. “Go help her, Adrien.”
“Chloe, you aren’t-”
“But she needs more help than me Adrien.” Chloe echoed. “I know this will go away once the akuma is found, but right now...we need to do something about the akuma. Who knows how long Ladybird will get here and get rid of the akuma, but we’re here. You’re here.”
Adrien felt as Chloe untangled her hand from his. “I can’t do anything, but you can. You can help de escalate the situation and you even know who she is after. So please...help her Adrien...she’s our friend...who knows how long she can endure it…”
Adrien bit his lip, feeling Plagg settle back into Adrien’s pocket inside his jacket.
“I’ll try Chloe. I’ll try.”
Giving Chloe’s hand a squeeze, Adrien slowly makes his way back to where he last saw Marinette, holding back a scream that nestled in his throat.
“Kid. We need to hurry.” Plagg reminded him. “Because Chloe was right. We don’t know how long it will take Ladybird to find Marinette so we need all hands on-”
“I know Plagg.” Adrien cut off, digging his nails into his palms. “Plagg, claws out!”
---
Dick paced around his apartment, putting his phone to his ear as he attempted to call both Wally and Amira, only to get sent to voicemail.
Huffing, Dick was about to call again when Tim called first.
“Tim, can this-“
“This is urgent.”
“Tim, I’m trying to-“
“Something wrong is happening in Paris right now. Just open the link I sent you right now.”
With Tim hanging up, Dick got a message and opened it, watching a Parisian news station play on his screen.
“Nadja Chamack. Don’t bemused, it’s just the news. As you can see, it’s currently XX:XX and yet-“ Then the camera pans to show the conditions outside. “Our once sunny December day became a foggy night, our reporters are trying to- what? An akuma?”
The station then transitioned into a live feed of what seemed to be a figure walking within the fog.
“This just in! Turns out that this is the result of Hawkmoths most recent akuma! So everyone who is watching, under no circumstance, do not leave the premises you are-“
Nadja went on to talk about akuma protocol when Dick notices something oddly familiar about the figure that walked within the live video.
That bracelet on her hand…
Dick felt his heart sink to his stomach.
Grabbing some keys and his bike, Dick began making phone calls again, hating that no one was picking up...
Or so he thought.
“Selina? Yes... I need a favor.”
—-
Wally slammed his fist against the teacher’s desk, hearing a few gasps escape from the students in the class.
Damn that Lila. Can’t even face the consequences of her own actions.
“Did you idiots seriously not think something was wrong when someone you knew was acting unusual? Even if they weren’t your friend, when someone isn’t acting like themselves, that means you should be concerned.” Silence filled the room. Wally recomposed himself.
This was no time to lecture these idiots. Right now I have to track down both Marinette and Lila Rossi. “Does anyone know where Lila would have run off to?”
When he got nothing but silence for an answer, Wally held his composure. “Okay so no one actually knows this girl. Fine. I’ll look for her my-“
“Shouldn’t you leave this to Ladybird and her team?” The teacher spoke, Wally really wondering how dependent Parisians have become on their ‘heroes’ taking action first.
“My best friend has been akumatized and we haven’t heard a single update about the situation from the Parisian vigilantes. My thoughts? The Miraculous Team is having trouble finding either person and if I can at least help to locate Marinette, then so be it.
I’m not going to stand here and just depend on the vigilantes when I know I can actually do something to help.”
Walking towards the door, he stopped. “I suggest you guys find a way to deal with the mist inside this classroom. Perhaps turn the ventilation system on or something. You rather be able to see each other can keep each other company rather than not knowing what’s going on in the very room you think you’re safe in.”
With that, Wally dashed out the room, not noticing two other people walk behind him.
—-
Lila stumbled as she ran away from the thing that was supposed to be Marinette.
That creature dressed in an ombre dress that transitioned from white to black and whose eyes haunted her was no Marinette!
That was a creature straight from tales she used to hear from the nanny that took care of long ago.
A banshee.
Lila held in a whimper as tears filled her eyes as she heard the akumatized Marinette’s hums, hums that fluctuated between her name being shrieked and soft wails.
“Lila.” She would whisper in a hoarse voice, causing Lila to run even more. “Where are you?”
Lila turned a corner and scrambled to hide behind a dumpster, collapsing her hands over her mouth as she heard Marinette slowly make her way towards her.
Lila shut her eyes tight as she heard the hum grow louder, Lila hating that the hum kept getting louder by the second.
The hum was now right at the corner Lila had finished turning when it came to a halt.
With the foggy streets and the humming coming to a stop, Lila could hear her footsteps nice and clear, listening as her heels clicked and clacked as Marinette walked on the cobblestone street.
Lila didn’t dare to move, she didn’t dare breath as she kept hearing those dreading footsteps. She did, however, wish she had another set of hands as a piercing shriek, in the form of her name, rang throughout the Parisian streets.
Lila didn’t know what happened next as the shriek caused her ears and head ring, her vision becoming muddled as Lila attempted to open her eyes.
She wishes she had not.
As she fluttered her eyes open, bloodshot red eyes looked back at her, a thin smile directed at her.
“Here you are.” Marinette sang in her raspy voice.
Lila felt herself begin to violently shake as Marinette helped her get up by grabbing her wrists. “You know, you didn’t have to make up all those lies to get the class to like you. They just love to throw themselves to anyone if it meant gaining a new friend. They’re just so open hearted like that.
Of course, those types of people are the type whom I’m not fond of, so I steered away from them.
Sadly, you thought lying to them was the best course of action instead of checking to see if you had to lie or not to get their adoration. I could only assume you thought this was the best course of action as it's been your main way of getting attention.
Sadly, you have to pay for your actions this time ‘round.
Didn’t your mother teach you that every action has a consequence?”
Lila watched as Marinette let go of her hands.
“While they might forgive you for lying to them, I will not. You disparage my brother’s name and for that, you shall pay, Lila Rossi.”
She grabbed hold of Lila’s hand, Lila letting out a deathly scream as her hand went ablaze, watching as Marinette’s veil turned pitch black in color.
“Pay for your lies, for your manipulations and schemes.”
Lila felt her other hand go ablaze and soon her heart began to burn, screaming her lungs out as she watched her get swallowed by the ground.
She screamed and cried as she clawed to bring herself back up to the surface, only to feel cold hands pull her down.
“This is your punishment, Lila Rossi. Suffer like I have at the loss of my dear brother.”
The last thing Lila saw before being pulled underground was Marinette’s veil and dress turn pitch black, a vivid black she had never seen before.
Black just like the void that swallowed her, a black that was the only thing Lila could see for miles around her.
She didn’t know for how long she kept screaming, how long she was crying but she knew for quite some time as her throat grew dry. It became itchy, her eyes stinging and she started to grow cold.
She began to walk through the darkness, not daring to stretch out her arms in fear that she may attack her once again.
That’s when she saw him.
Standing there, in the darkness, was a man with olive green eyes and chestnut hair staring back at her.
A man she knew...
“Papà?” She said hoarsely.
She watched as the man looked at her with a smile, opening up his arms, welcoming her.
With a warbling smile, Lila ran to her father, only for him to disintegrate upon her touch.
“Papà!” Lila screeches, running after the dust. Why? Why?!
“Lila.” She heard her mother say monotonously, causing Lila to promptly shut up and stop pathetically trying to get her father back.
She slowly turned to her side, having to look up to see her mother’s pale face.
Was she always this tall?
Looking at herself, Lila realized she was holding her mother's hand and standing before her father’s grave.
She was 9 again.
9...“You can’t keep crying mia stella. We have to keep moving, no matter what. It’s what he would have wanted us to do.”
“Yes, Mamma.” Lila complied, watching as the two walked from the grave, watching how the grave quickly got invaded by thorn covered vines with each step she took. “Bye, Papà.”
.
“Bastarda! Bastarda!” The boys chanted as they circled her, Lila covering her ears, shutting her eyes as she crouched towards the floor.
“Smettila! [Quit it!]” Lila yelled, holding in tears as she heard the girls in her class whisper and snicker about her.
It wasn’t her fault that her mother couldn’t afford the latest clothing, the latest car or anything new for that matter.
If only her mother were more than just a secretary. If only her mother were someone important.
How she hated that they were able to see through her lies.
She could hear the laughter ringing around her, the chants of her being a bastard and bugiarda [poor] echoing in her mind.
She watched as smeared faces of her past circled around her, laughing at her and began to sing.
“Delilah! Delilah! Delilah the liar!”
“Shut up!” Lila screamed, but it went ignored.
The faces continued to sing and ridicule her, Lila screaming until she couldn’t anymore.
---
Chat looked out to the city below him, clicking his tongue when he wasn’t able to see anything below despite being at the very top of the Eiffel Tower.
Taking out his staff, Chat called Queen Bee, only to be sent directly to voicemail. He tried again, this time using their other mode of communication.
When he heard a click, Chat was about to talk when Bee beat him to it.
“I’m down Chat.’
“What?”
“I was in the area when the akuma struck. I tried to apprehend the Victim, but she got to me first. I don’t think I can...I don’t think I can fight in my condition Chat.”
Chat huffed, picking up a shriek in the distance. Narrowing his eyes, Chat started to sprint to the direction of which the shriek came from.
“Have you heard anything from Ladybird?” Chat asked, almost crashing into someone when he got to the ground. “I tried calling her, but-”
“I didn't get anything from her…” Chat heard a shuddering of breath from the other side. “Do you think...do you think the Victim got to her?”
“Let’s hope she didn’t.” Chat said, realizing where he was. Extending his staff, he went straight to their usual training grounds, glad to be up high again. “After all, she’s the only one who can reverse all of this.
Without her, we’re screwed.”
“I know Chat...I know. But what are you going to do without me? Without her? You need allies now more than ever Chat! Without them, who knows how long it will take to defeat this Victim!”
“I’ll find a way Bee, don’t you worry. For now, rest up. We’ll win this fight, you’ll see. We won’t let Hawkmoth win, not on our watch.”
With that, Chat hung up and mumbled a ‘claws in.’
“Did we-hey! Isn’t the reason why I give you my power to-”
“Plagg, you mentioned a Master Fu before.” Adrien cut off, handing some camembert towards Plagg. “You need to take me to him. I need to-”
“I know.” Plagg said, swallowing the cheese whole. “Something tells me you might need his help for this fight.”
“Thank you, Plagg.” Adrien said, eyeing a bag of utilities nearby. He rummaged through it before finding what he needed.
Plagg eyed the grappling hook in Adrien’s hands, wondering if he should tell him or not.
Should he? Should he tell him that Ladybird wasn’t going to come? That she was the Victim this time ‘round?
“Alright then, follow me!” Plagg said with a smile.
No, he shouldn’t tell him. Who knows what might happen if the kid would be at risk of also getting akumatized and that he couldn’t risk.
Not his kitten...not on his watch.
---
Black.
That is what Amira first saw when she barely came to her senses.
Amira felt herself walking, watching as something else took over her body.
Is this what every Victim felt like when they got akumatized by Hawkmoth?
Amira tried to move her arms, or attempted to stop herself from walking, but to no avail.
She kept walking to who knows where, hearing herself hum as she did, humming as she was looking for someone…but who?
The humming continued, Amira wondering why it resonated so much with her.
Amira listened to the hum, closing her eyes and soaking in the melodies as the hum continued,
---
Wally stood still as he barely made out the figures of the neatly aligned parked cars on either side of the road. Not a single person was in the street, not a single piece of paper dared to flutter within the dense fog.
Only the dim lights of the streetlights and of a few store lights allowed Wally to know where he was.
“Marinette!” He screamed, holding his breath as he strained his ears for any type of noise. When he heard nothing, he walked a few meters before standing still again and calling out for Marinette.
He kept doing his for what seemed an hour until Wally found himself right by the Seine.
The moment he stepped onto the Pont des Arts, he heard the faintest of hums, Wally feeling the edge of his lips begin to turn upward.
“Marinette!” He yelled out, but got nothing in return.
Sprinting to the other side of the bridge, Wally was glad to hear the humming grow louder, but hated that he had yet to see Amira.
“His chirps brightened my days
Talks that would last for hours
My jay, my jay.”
“Amira!” Wally yelled, his head swinging from side to side in hopes of seeing her, but nothing.
The quiet Parisian street taunted him, the rolling fog egging him to follow the only clue he had of tracking Amira.
“One day after you left
For you I did wait
Another gentle night like no other.”
Wally quickly began to follow the song, hating that no type of heat was registering through the goggles.
“I awaited for your arrival
But a visit I did not get
As I approached the window
I saw you there...
There you were.”
Wally felt like he was running towards nowhere, seeing as he had been running in the same direction for a while.
“On the ground
Your blue feathers now dyed red
Your flight towards me
Was a flight towards another place.”
Just where the hell was he?!
“Goodbye my Jay...goodbye.”
As those last words were said, the fog started to lift up a bit, Wally turning to see Amira staring back at him through her black veil.
Her eyes were a dull emerald, her hair long and straight just like it was when they were younger. She wore a black lace dress that seemed to sparkle under the dim Parisian streetlights.
“Wally. You’re alright.” Amira said, walking up to him, stroking his cheek with the back of her hand. He felt his breath hitch. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
I’m more worried about you.
“I’m fine.” Wally tried to hold her hand when she pulled it away.
“That’s good.” Her hand returning to her side, averting her gaze from him and biting her lip. “What about Chloe? Is she doing alright? I didn’t mean to hurt her like that.”
Wally gulped. She had used her power on Chloe?
Were those tear trails running down her face?
“She’s doing alright. She’s still under your power, but she isn’t as in much pain as she was before.” Wally lied, holding her wrists in his hands, ignoring the pain her got from placing pressure over her bracelet.
So it’s her hands he has to be wary of…more specifically, her palms.
“What about the rest of my team? Do they know where I am?” Amira asked him, Wally biting the side of his cheek.
“I think one of them might know where you are. As for the rest, I do not know.”
“I see.” Amira said, looking back at Wally, turning away from him.
“Where are you going?” Wally asked her, watching as her veil flared out a bit. He watched as a grin emerged from her once stoic face.
“I’m going to go check on Lila. You should’ve seen the look on her face as she succumbed to my punishment.”
“Amira, what have you done?” Wally almost growled out, noticing the small rips on her dress, how it seemed to merge with the shadows.
“She got the punishment she deserved. Right about now, she should be screeching her heart out.”
“How...how could you do something like that Amira?” Wally yelled, tightening his grasp on her wrists. “Vengeance isn’t the way to-”
“This was the only way to make her pay for trying to use Jason’s name for her own personal gain! Every action has a consequence, whether it be a good one or a bad one.”
“Amira, can’t you see-”
“If you are here to stop me, then don’t. I already made up my mind.” Amira tried to jerk her hands from Wally’s grasp, but couldn’t. He wouldn’t let her escape, not when she was right in front of him.
“Amira, please! Think-”
“I have. And this,” she lifted her arm ever so slightly, the corners of her mouth curving upwards as her palms hovered over Wally’s wrists. “This is my answer.”
WARNING: BLOOD AND DEATH AHEAD
Placing her palms on Wally, Wally screamed in agony as he collapsed to the floor, his hands grasping on his shirt, his knuckles turning white as his head and chest began to ring in pain.
Wally watched as his vision flickered between seeing Amira walking away from him in her black dress and her yelling out his name as she was being pulled away from him.
Wally watches as she tries to crawl back at him, as she claws at the ground as she’s being pulled away by purple miasma.
Her nails are scratched, her skin peeling off her fingers as she tries to hold onto loose cobblestones on the ground.
She screams for him, her tears merging with the blood that trailed from her head, mixing with the dirt on her face.
Cuts, both new and old were scattered, dried blood seeping from her mouth.
She manages to get up before she’s thrown back to the floor, a scream escaping from her.
“Amira!” Wally yells, trying to reach for her as he feels tears slip from his eyes. He watches as Amira stares at him one last time before her head limps forward, her hair draping over her face.
Wally feels himself stop breathing, raising his head as he sees Joker above her.
Why? Why were they back at Gotham?
His eyes register the crowbar in his hand, covered in blood...Amira’s blood...
Blood that dripped from the same hands that killed his friend, the same feral clown that looked down at him with his feral smile and crooked yellow teeth.
Wally let out a scream as he watched Joker walk away, leaving Amira’s corpse on the floor.
Managing to find the strength to get up, Wally ran next to Amira’s limp body, only for it to turn into mist upon lifting it.
Wally watched as the illusion merged with the mist around him, the mist slipping through his fingers as he watched his surroundings return him to the present...to Paris..
“Illusions…” Wally said, finding himself laughing as he ran one hand through his hair while the other pulled at it, feeling himself still shaking...
This is exactly why he wasn’t very fond of magic...
END
---
Nino jumped when he felt a hand on him, feeling his racing heart relax upon seeing Master Fu.
After having left the classroom when the mystery guy had run out, Nino tried to look for Ladybird, hoping to once again help his friend. But he had been running for hours, not seeing a single person at all as he searched for the Miraculous Team or Banshee.
“Master Fu, what are you-”
“You know clearly why I am here.” Fu said, slipping off the Turtle from his hand, Nino stretching out his hand towards him. “Ladybird and Queen Bee are down for this match, leaving Chat on his own.”
Nino couldn’t believe that. Chat...was on his own? Ladybird and Queen Bee...were out of commission? How?
Placing the bracelet into Nino’s hand, Master Fu closed it and looked at Nino. “Now go.”
“But Master Fu! How are-”
“The two of you are not alone.” Master Fu clarified. “Gris is to join you alongside a new ally. With you four, you must do what it takes to defeat this akuma. If not,” Master Fu lowered his gaze. “Hawkmoth might just get his hands on several miraculous tonight.”
Nino gulped, feeling unspeakable pressure pushing down on him.
Looking down at the bracelet, Nino furrowed his brows, slipping it on. Wayzz appeared before him, smiling at him.
“Don’t worry Master Fu. I will do what it takes to protect my team, the miraculous and the people of Paris! I will not let Hawkmoth win! Wayzz, shell on!”
---
Chat’s ears twitched when he heard a thud from behind him, turning to see Carapace walking towards him.
“About time you came.” Chat said, greeting Carapace. Gris waved at the turtle hero who returned the gesture.
“Master Fu mentioned having a new member. So, where are they?”
“A new user?” Gris asked, wondering why she didn’t get the memo.
“I would like to introduce you two to our newest member.”
The three turned to where Chat gestured, watching as a person with golden horns emerged from the doorway that led to their training grounds on the Montparnasse Tower.
“Hello everyone. My name is Ryuuko, wielder of the Dragon miraculous. I hope to be of some help.”
“Woah, she has a whole katana by her side! Is that allowed?” Carapace asked, stretching to see the black sheath that held the katana.
“Carapace. Focus.” Chat stern said. “It’s our job to deal with this akuma as soon as possible. As you know, Queen Bee is down and Ladybird might be due to her absence.
For this to be a success, Ryuuko, you are in charge of finding a way to lift up this fog to help with the search. Gris, multiply and scatter yourself around the city for any hints of where the akuma might be.”
“Got it.” “Roger that!” Ryuuko and Gris said, jumping off to complete their tasks.
“What about us?” Carapace asked.
“I want you to look for Lila Rossi. She’s who the akuma is after.”
“Right. But what about you?”
“I’ll keep searching around this area. Something tells me to stay put.” Chat said.
He watched as Carapace nodded, leaving him by himself.
Chat looked out towards the city, wondering if he was up to the job, if he was able to shine a candle to Ladybird, now that she was nowhere to be found. Would he be able to save Chloe? Marinette?
Sighing, Chat looked up to the sky, shutting his eyes firmly.
“What should I do, what should I do...Mom?”

Chapter 11: Damn Mari and her need to do things that she should not be doing.
Marinette stared at the sight. The Wayne Manor looked like something out of a horror movie. There was something strange about it too. She could feel it.
“Its not that bad, is it?” Red Hood said. “I mean, it does look scary but we shouldn't judge a book by its cover.”
“I’m pretty sure the inside is just like the outside.” She looked at him. “Where's Chloe?”
“Uh, Chloe?” he asked, backing a little. “Who's that?” She gave him a pointed look. “She got annoying.” He sighed. “But I dropped her really close. She should be fine. I think.” She laughed. And Red Hood cooed at her.
“You need to hide.” She said in between laughs. “Chloe will be out for blood, specifically, yours.”
Just as Marinette said that, someone else dropped behind them. “Well, well, well.” Said Chloe. “If it isn’t the famous Red Hood! You don’t have much red on you though,” her voice bordered on a murderous tone, “Let me fix that for you!”
Marinette turned to him and looked at him in the eye. “Run.”
He didn't know what compelled him to do it. Maybe it was the conviction in Marinette's voice or maybe it was the sight of Chloe’s sharp nails and her murderous expression. But he ran.
“You mind if I sting him?”
“Chloe, no.”
“Chloe, yes.”
Marinette sighed heavily. “We’re not even a day in Gotham and you already want to sting someone.” Chloe opened her mouth to protest but kept quiet when Marinette raised her hand. “Just a small sting, please.”
Chloe squealed in excitement before hugging Marinette and running away.
“I’m going to regret this, aren't I?” She said to herself, an habit she got after getting Tikki.
“Probably not,” said Robin from the edge of the rooftop she was on, “Everyone wants to kill Red Hood. No big deal.”
She sighed. “I thought Batman was serious with his ‘No killing’ rule.”
“He is. We aren’t.”
“Of course.”
He stared at her. “You aren't even going to ask why I think you’re villains?”
“You have every right to think so.”
Robin opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted yet again by another one of his brothers. This time it was Red Robin.
“I don't what Red Hood did to get Chloe angry,” He said, looking like he had aged a hundred years. “But I thinks it's best to get in before we get caught in her rage too.” That made sense.
“We probably won't have long.” Marinette said, completely serious.
Red Robin nodded and turned to take off before turning to Robin. “Oh, and you have another job to do. I think you know what I mean.”
Robin scowled at Red Robin’s retreating figure. Marinette coughed slightly to avoid laughing.
“I suppose I’ll have to get you down.” He sighed.
“I can do it on my own.”
“...” He stared at her incredulously. “I can't bury your dead body alone. That is so stupid.”
She rolled her eyes at him and without warning, she jumped.
Robin shrieked in panic and dived after her with his grappling hook.

Paladin Rose (An Other Magic AU Substory written by CartoonAddict564 from the comment section)
Part 3 (Beginning of the End arc)
First things first, Juleka thought. She had to get Alya away from anyone who might suggest anything to her. She had to find out exactly what had been done to her. She had to find out how to fix it. And she had to see if it was possible to take the Ladyblog ad down.
So she carefully left Alya, who kept apologizing for 'being useless and stupid,' and went back to Bustier's class. "Um, Miss Bustier?" she said. "The Lavaillants asked Alya to help them write up some flyers to find Rose. Is it okay if she does that instead of coming back to homeroom? She's super worried..."
Bustier quickly nodded. "Of course. That's very kind of her."
Sometimes, Juleka thought, it was nice having a total pushover for a teacher. "Actually, she asked if maybe a few of us could help. Is that okay?"
"Well, if it's to help Rose I don't see why not--"
"Great. Alix, Chloe, Sabrina, let's go. Bye!" And Juleka ushered her friends out the door before leaving a somewhat surprised Bustier behind them.
----
"So she'll really do anything anyone says?" Alix asked. "Anything?"
"Far as I can tell," said Juleka, frowning at her phone. "Come on, Luka, pick up already!"
"Oooh." Chloe grinned. "This could be fun."
Alya beamed at her. "Yes?" she asked. "Do you have something I should be doing? I'd try to think of it myself, but I'm terrible and dumb. If you could tell me what to do, I'd be so grateful!"
"Ugh, she's worse than Sabrina," groaned Alix.
"Hey!" said the redhead. "I don't act like that."
Everyone stared at her.
Sabrina sighed. "Well, not as much anymore," she insisted. "I'm getting better. I--"
"Quiet." Juleka held up the phone. "Luka, finally. We have a problem, and--um, why are you wearing a helmet?"
Through the video feed of the phone, they could all see Luka looking embarrassed as he removed it. "Oh, uh, Rose said she could use a sparring partner, so I thought I'd help out." He paused. "She whooped me. Your girlfriend knows her way around a sword and lance, Juleka."
"It's why I love her," Juleka deadpanned. "Listen, the Lavaillats showed up and cast some kind of spell on Alya to make her ask Ladybug and Chat Noir to find Rose."
All the good humor fled his face. "Rose," he called. "Get over here. You'll want to hear this."
----
"...so that's what happened," Juleka finished.
Rose's normally adorable face (at least in Juleka's view) was red with anger. "But that's awful!" she insisted. "That spell is only for evil monsters and villains! It's supposed to help them recognize the harm they've done. You know, make them more humble so they stop being all 'I am so great I have the right to hurt people' and start being all, 'I'm no better than them; it's wrong to hurt them.'" She crossed her arms. "Using it on a civilian is messed up!"
"Aren't they worried someone might learn they're, you know, crazy magic paladins?" Alix asked.
"Doubt it." Luka shrugged. "Presumably the spell wears off at some point. Then all anyone thinks is that Alya had really low self-esteem today, probably including Alya herself. No one thinks magic was involved."
Rose nodded. "The spell lasts for about twelve hours. If the bad guy has some epiphany about, you know, not being a villain anymore, that can last longer. But the spell itself should be done by bedtime."
"So for today, Alya will do anything anyone asks." Chloe began to smile. "Well, obviously we need someone to stay by her to make sure no one asks her for anything bad. I volunteer."
"No," said everyone else at once, including Luka and Rose.
Chloe pretended to gasp. "What, do you not trust me?"
"I trust you!" said Alya. "You're better than me, anyways."
The others frowned, but then Chloe glared at them. "Listen. One of us can get out of school anytime she wants because of who her daddy is, and it happens to me. I'll tell Damocles that we have some urgent thing to do, and he'll give us passes so we can leave. Then I'll take her up to my room in daddy's hotel and, I don't know, lock her in a closet or something. Otherwise, she'll be stuck here all day, and then Kim will dare her to dive into the pool with her laptop or something dumb like that."
Nobody said anything.
"I'm not going to hurt her," stressed Chloe. "Seriously. Guys--"
"Alright," said Alix at last. "If you promise, I trust you."
Juleka gave Sabrina a very uneasy look, but Chloe was right; she was the only one who could get out of school, and even her power was probably limited to just herself and maybe one other person. "Fine," she said. "But seriously, Chloe. If we come by and find her in a maid costume scrubbing your bathroom, we're throwing you into your pool."
"Bleh." Chloe stuck out her tongue at them. "I'll be good. I promise."
"If that's taken care of," said Alix, "We need to get that blog post off the Ladybug."
Juleka shook her head. "Can't. Alya's the only one that knows the password, and anything to do with the blog is the one type of suggestion she won't take. That post is up there until the spell wears off and she gets rid of it herself."
"Hey," said Luka. "Here's a thought. Maybe that's not such a bad thing."
"What?!" yelled the rest of the team at once. Even Rose seemed shocked.
"No, wait, listen." Luka held up his hands. "We know the Lavaillants are going to do something to try to find Rose, right? Well, this is something we can control. Alya has Ladybug's number. Once this spell wears off she can contact her privately and explain that they shouldn't find Rose--instead they should stall. Lead the Lavailllants on for as long as possible, and then say, oh, we got a report that she was heading to Timbuktu or something." As long as Ladybug doesn't find Rose today--and since Rose is going to be staying under deck all day, that shouldn't be a problem--we're fine."
Juleka considered. "One issue. Suppose Ladybug doesn't just take Alya's word for it that Rose shouldn't be found? I mean we can't explain the real reason."
"Why not?" asked Sabrina. "They're already magical. They're literally the most likely people to believe 'Rose's parents are evil paladins and Rose had to run away to date her vampire girlfriend and stay with her vampire girlfriend's cute older brother' on Earth."
Juleka sighed. "Because--wait, you think my brother is cute?"
Sabrina made a soft 'eep!' sound. "Um, I just meant aesthetically."
"Hmm," mused Rose with a soft smile. She was still wearing her armor, except for her helmet, and it occurred once again to Juleka that Rose looked incredibly beautiful when wearing full chainmail and carrying a sword. "He's alright. But I prefer the vampire girlfriend, myself."
"...right." Juleka shook her head, though she couldn't hide a faint smile. "Anyways, the more people who know that things like vampires and werewolves exist, the higher the chance of Inquisition 2: this time the humans have guns." She shrugged. "Ladybug and Chat Noir wouldn't join the mob, but if we told them about us and it leaked somehow? We could be in trouble."
"Oh." Sabrina frowned. "Right."
"We'll just have to be persuasive, then" said Luka. "Or, you know. 'Persuasive.' Like I showed you."
Juleka frowned. She'd didn't like using her suggestion power, and really didn't like her odds of using it on a superhero. "That might... not work."
"Well, we'll think of something. And if I'm right, the Lavaillants will think things are progressing, so they won't look for her." Luka clapped his hands together. "Okay, that just leaves your classmates. How do we deal with them?"
"If it were just Kim and Max it'd be easy," grumbled Alix. "I could blast them with spells to make them confused. Well, moreso than usual."
"Or I could use Suggestion," added Juleka. "But Markov is a robot. I don't think magic works on him."
Then Sabrina stepped into the center of the group. "I'll handle them."
Chloe frowned. "What? Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous. Sabrina, we can all fight if we have to. We're predators, except for Alix, who's a badass magician." Alix blushed a little. "But you turn into a deer. What'll you do, eat grass at them?"
Sabrina frowned. "I'm serious, Chloe. I want to help."
"Why?" asked Alix. "I mean, we appreciate it, but I don't know if this is your thing. You're... nice. Easygoing. You let people do things. Standing up to Kim and Max... you sure you're up for it?"
"Yes." The redhead looked down. "You all saved me from being trapped in an alien world. And even before that, you were nice to me despite the... the things I did." She managed a glance at Chloe. "I've done nothing to repay you yet. I want to fix that."
"This isn't about paying a debt," insisted Juleka. "We're friends. We--"
"I'm not going to be a burden!" Sabrina took a breath. "You're my friends, and I want to help you! I... I just really want to help." She bowed her head. "Please let me do this."
They all looked at each other. But it was Rose who said, "Well, then I say go for it!"
"You realize if she messes up and Kim catches you, you're the one who's in trouble," said Alix. "We're clear on that, right?"
"If she says she can do it, I trust her," said Rose serenely.
Juleka hesitated. She had a very bad feeling about this. But...
But she understood wanting to be useful. Wanting not to burden one's friends. And she trusted them, both Sabrina and Rose. "Alright." She said. "Let us know if you need anything."
"I will!" enthused Sabrina. "I won't let you down!"
"Alright then." Luka nodded. "Chloe, take Alya to the hotel; Alix and Juleka, maybe start working out our argument to Ladybug; Sabrina, do your thing." He grinned. "Let's do this, guys."
——
"Hi-yah!"
Luka tumbled to the floor of the ship and looked at the beaming Rose. "Okay, okay, I concede. You're the better fighter." He accepted her hand to pull himself up. "How did you get so strong?"
"I am strengthened by my righteousness!" said Rose. "And also push-ups. Lots of push-ups. One more time?" Her tone turned wheedling. "You can use magic if you want."
Luka considered. "Alright," he said at last. "And--go!" He murmured something as Rose leapt at him--
And then Rose sailed up to the ceiling as Luka's floatation spell hit her. The sword fell from her hand, and without it her arms were just a little too short to reach his head. "Hey!" said Rose as Luka chuckled. "That was mean."
"I am strengthened by my magic," intoned Luka. "And also 'not being a midget.'" Rose stuck out her tongue at him, but was smiling and didn't seem annoyed. "Anyways, that should wear off in a few minutes. Want a snack while you're waiting?"
"Hmph." Rose wrinkled her nose. "No. As a paladin who has been defeated, I must reflect on my failure and pray to improve--wait, is that cherry licorice?" She looked at the box of candy Luka had taken out from one of the hold's cabinets. "I love that flavor!"
Luka laughed at that and lifted the box above his head so she could reach it. "Once you're down we'll check on Juleka. See how the gang's doing with Ladybug, Kim, and so on."
Rose frowned. "Do you think they're doing okay?"
"Oh, I'm sure they are."
----
No sooner had school let out than Juleka entered Le Grand Paris Hotel and made a beeline for the elevator so she could get to Chloe and Alya, but just before she entered she got a text. "Juleka," Chloe had written to her. "Sabrina left school early to start getting ready, so when you get here, go to the private kitchens and check on her to make sure she didn't set herself on fire or anything."
"Set herself on fire?" Juleka frowned. "What's she doing?" And so she ducked into the restaurant, slipped into the back area, and then went past the bustling main kitchens to reach the smaller ones which were reserved for private functions and special occasions. One of them had a 'Closed' sign on it even though there was light coming through the crack in the door, so Juleka pushed it open and went in.
Sabrina was working at one of the counters next to a rack of ovens. The burners held bubbling pots of food that looked and smelled great. Juleka's stomach rumbled and she wondered if maybe she could get a snack--but then she forced herself to focus. "Sabrina?" she asked.
"Eep!" Sabrina jumped and pointed a ladle at Juleka before realizing who it was. "Oh, it's you. Sorry." She took a breath. "How was school?"
"Sucky." Juleka frowned. "Um, are you sure you should be in the open like this? Your father's looking for you, and he's in the police, so--"
"I know it's a risk." Sabrina took a slow breath. "I know. But like I said earlier, I want to help. And..." She gestured at the food. "This is the only way I know how to help."
Juleka tilted her head as she understood. "Fey food," she murmured. "You're going to get Max and Kim to eat something which puts them under your control."
"Right."
"Do you know how to do that?" Juleka stepped closer and looked at the food. "I talked to Luka about that stuff one day--I was a little kid and I got it in my head that if I accidentally bought a snack from a store and it was a fey store somehow, the fey would be able to take me away forever--and he said it's tough."
"Well, I've been studying," said Sabrina primly. "You know how good I am at school. I'm sure I--"
At that moment, one of the pots erupted in a blast of stew, spattering Sabrina's face and covering her eyeglasses.
Juleka hid her giggle as Sabrina looked down. "I'm not useless," she said, as if trying to convince herself. "I'm not. I'm not--"
"Of course you're not," said Juleka. "I've needed help with my powers plenty of times too. And Chloe--she needs Alix to do all kinds of magic junk to her every month so she doesn't wolf out and eat somebody." She stepped to Sabrina's side. "I can call Luka. Maybe he can help walk you through this."
"Or," said a new voice from the door, "She could ask an expert."
Both Juleka and Sabrina wheeled around to see another Sabrina. But this one was different. Wilder, somehow. Her hair was tangled, her clothes were a bizarre mishmash of black goth gear and forest-green stuff that looked like it came from Ancient Rome, and her eyes were somehow unsettling. "You're the other me," Sabrina whispered. "The one the fey took."
"What do you want?" asked Juleka at once.
The human Sabrina smiled. "Maybe I just wanted to drop in on my sister," she said as she approached. "Give a little advice."
"Fey don't give things." Juleka growled. "You want to trap her in some kind of deal, and--"
The changeling Sabrina put a hand on Juleka's shoulder. "Wait," she said. "She didn't let my dad send me back to the fey. I don't think she's hostile." She took a breath and met her double's gaze. "I want to talk to her."
"Sabrina..." began Juleka.
"You seem stressed," said the human Sabrina. "Peckish, even. Want a snack?" She whipped what looked like a box of cookies out from... actually, Juleka had no idea where it had come from. "Freshly baked."
"Nice try." Juleka frowned at her, then looked around for something safe to eat in case the human Sabrina could somehow manipulate her appetites and make her hungry enough to eat the cookies. She settled on a box of nuts on a counter and began to snack on them as she said, "We're not dumb enough to take food from someone who lives with the fey."
The human Sabrina shrugged. "Many humans aren't. That's why we have other methods. Like, say leaving a few food items around ahead of time just in case." Her eyes flicked to the box of nuts.
Then the changeling Sabrina looked at the box too. "Uh, Juleka? I didn't put those there."
Juleka's eyes widened and she tried to spit out the nuts, but the human Sabrina snapped her fingers and Juleka's body froze. "In exchange for those nuts," she said in a light voice, "You're to leave this kitchen and not return until after I'm done talking with my sister." She grinned as Juleka's body began to move of its own accord. "Bye!"
As soon as Juleka's traitorous legs took her out of the kitchen and stopped, Juleka cursed, then raced towards the nearest ceiling vent. No sooner had she gotten there and verified the coast was clear than she pried the vent off, shifted into her bat form, and flew through it. When she found a vent leading into the kitchen, she placed a talon on the vent's exit grate and found it completely unmovable. Her body would not let her open up the passage back inside. But she could stay there, technically 'outside' the kitchen and watch the conversation.
"Why do you want to help me?" asked the changeling Sabrina quietly.
The human redhead shrugged. "We're sisters," she said. "And you interest me."
"Why?"
"During that fight on the hill, even though you were drugged, you tried to help your friends," the human said. "You could have tried to run away. Or just hidden. But you tried to save them--even though you were the one in danger." She hesitated. "It's... not a very fey thing to do. I was intrigued."
The changeling smiled slightly. "Thanks. And, um, thanks for not letting my dad send me back."
"No problem." The human Sabrina clapped her counterpart on the shoulder. "So. This fey food."
"Is it good?" the changeling asked.
The human stuck a finger inside one of the pots and sucked it. "Magic's all wrong," she said. "This is basically synthetic hemlock. Sorry."
Sabrina blanched and looked down, but her counterpart was at her side. "Fortunately, I can show you how to do it right," she said.
That made the changeling brighten, but then she paused. "In exchange for what?"
The human Sabrina grinned, as if the changeling had passed a test. "Get me set up with this 'Internet' thing the mortals use," she said. "It sounds cool. I want to see what the fuss is."
The changeling quickly nodded. "You got it. Once I'm done with this food, I'll get you a phone and an account." She extended her hand and the other Sabrina shook it.
"Alright then. I think we'll be fine." The human Sabrina sent a meaningful look up at Juleka's vent. "Totally fine," she stressed.
Juleka flushed; apparently she hadn't been as sneaky as she thought. And it did seem like the changeling Sabrina was in good hands. She quickly fluttered back down the shaft.
----
When Juleka reached Chloe's suite and entered it, she sighed. "Chloe. We talked about this."
"What?" Chloe was reclining in bed while Alya braided her hair and did her nails. "You said no scrubbing the bathroom. She's not!"
Juleka frowned.
"Besides, I did her hair and nails too, so she owes me." Chloe gestured at Alya, whose hair and nails did seem fancier.
"You realize when the spell wears off you're going to have an angry fox on your hands?"
Chloe waved a hand. "That's not for a few hours. I'll send her away, give her time to see that I just gave her practice in making people prettier. She'll be fine."
Juleka frowned. There was an odd glint in Alya's eyes. A mixture of annoyance... and anticipation. "And supposing my brother got the time wrong and the spell actually wore off two minutes ago?"
Chloe blinked. "Huh?"
And then Alya dumped all the hair dye bottles onto Chloe's head at once.
"ALYAAAAA!"
——
"Kim! Max! Thanks for coming!" Sabrina clasped her hands together and welcomed the two boys into the deserted little park. She'd sent them a text asking them to meet her there at dinner for 'something urgent,' and fortunately, both had showed up, along with Markov. "It's good to see you!"
"You too, Sabrina," said Max politely. "We noticed you left school early today. Is anything wrong?"
Sabrina waved this off. "Don't worry about it."
"How long will this take?" Kim asked. "Cause I don't know if you heard, but Rose's folks put a $3000 bounty on her, and we're gonna collect!"
"Not long," Sabrina promised. She had a picnic basket and began to take out what looked like small sandwiches. "Come on, I brought snacks so we can eat while we talk! Here, these are the appetizers--please, enjoy!"
Juleka, who had asked Luka to cast a glamour over her so she would look as different from herself as possible (it wound up making her look like a peppy cheerleader), was sitting nearby and paying close attention. She smiled as Kim's expression changed to one of glee. "Awesome, free food, thanks!"
Sabrina smiled brightly as Max and Kim each ate one of the sandwiches. "Man, this is really good," Kim said at last. "Did you do something special to make this?"
"N--" began Sabrina, before her mouth seemed to freeze. "N--N--"
Juleka stiffened. "What's going on?"
"Ooh, rookie move."
Juleka jumped and turned to see the human Sabrina, who had someone slipped up next to her without her noticing. "Hey Fangsy," she said. "What're we watching?"
Juleka scowled. "Sabrina's trying to talk to those guys but her mouth stopped working or something--"
"Well, duh." The human shrugged. "She's probably tried to lie. But she's a fey, and fey can't lie. So she couldn't say it."
"But she's lied before!" Juleka insisted. "Loads of times! Mostly for Chloe!"
"Yeah, but she was trying to live like a human then. Most of her magic was dormant. Now she's actively using her magic and calling on her fey nature. So that nature's reasserting herself." Human Sabrina shrugged. "No lies for her."
Juleka scowled, then quickly texted Sabrina, "YOU CAN'T LIE." Sabrina glanced at the text, blanched, then seemed to make herself swallow and say, "Yes. Now--"
"What'd you do?" asked Max. "Seriously, this is really good."
"I..." Juleka could see that Sabrina was thinking fast. "...had an expert teach me a few tricks."
"She local?" asked Kim.
"No. From out of town. Way, way out." Sabrina fixed a big smile on her face. "Anyways! I hope you enjoyed that?" Both boys nodded. "Good. And, um, in exchange I was hoping for just a little favor?"
Kim gulped down his second sandwich. "What is it?" he asked.
"Well, I had this proposal for you, and I'd like you to listen to it and--uh--agree with me?" She flashed a disarming smile, one that usually accompanied a statement being made in a tentative or hopeful manner, one that could be accepted or rejected later. But there was nothing ambiguous in the words themselves, and Juleka knew that with fey, the words were all that counted. The boys were bound to listen to and agree with whatever Sabrina proposed.
"Ooh, smart," mused the human Sabrina. "Nice play."
"Why?" Juleka asked.
The redhead looked at her. "If she just ordered them to 'not look for Rose,' they'd do it--their bodies wouldn't let them go walking around hunting for her--but they'd notice how weird that was. So first she ordered them to 'agree' with whatever she says next. Now she'll offer them another round of food and tell them not to find Rose. They won't look for her--that's from the second dish--but more than that, they'll agree that they shouldn't look for her--from the first one."
Juleka considered. "Why don't all fey do it that way, then? Instead of just ordering people to do X, order them to think they should do X?"
"Well, it's easier to screw up and drive people totally insane the way she's doing it. She has to make sure she asks for something reasonable enough that their minds accept it; if she asks for something crazy, they'll do it and think that they should do it but still know it's insane, so then they go bonkers from the contradiction. Giving orders without demanding agreement doesn't hurt human brains as much if things go wrong." She grinned. "This is fun! Popcorn?" She offered Juleka a bag.
Juleka found herself reaching to take a handful before she caught herself and scowled. "Do you do anything besides offer people food to get them to do things?"
"Why? That's the best part of being fey-like!"
Meanwhile, Sabrina had taken out little platters of steaks with a compound butter on top. "Oh wow," said Kim as he gobbled it down. "Seriously, when we graduate and you become Chloe's live-in servant full time, she's gonna eat like a queen."
Juleka thought she saw a vein twitch in Sabrina's forehead. "Anyway," the changeling said. "Here's my proposal." And from her basket she took out a map of Paris. "You said you were also looking for Rose, right? I propose we should split up the city to be more effective. Specifically--in exchange for this sumptuoussteak," She paused so they all could laugh, again letting her tone and demeanor make the 'bargain' sound more informal than it was--"You guys pick this area." She gestured at a large section of the map mostly comprising the outer districts and suburbs of Paris; by area it was more than 70% of the city. "I'll take this one," she said, gesturing at an inner area which just happened to include Rose's actual location.
"Why that one?" asked Markov in a protective voice. "And why should we look in this outer area?"
"Well, honestly, I think Rose is--" Sabrina's mouth froze again and her eyes bulged slightly as she tried to reword whatever she was about to say to be, technically, not a lie. "There are reasons why Rose could choose to go to these suburban areas," she said at last. "Less security cameras, fewer people who know her personally. You looking there could be logical."
"Then why are you giving it to us?" pressed Markov.
Sabrina made a melodramatic sigh. "My father won't take me to wander around the outskirts of town right now," she said, and Juleka knew that was true, though not for the reasons she was implying. "Also, I know this inner part of the city best. If she's there, I'm sure I can find her. Whereas if I looked somewhere else, I surely wouldn't find her no matter what."
All true, Juleka thought. Rose was in the central part of the city, and Sabrina could find her--but she hadn't said she'd tell anyone she'd found her. And if Sabrina looked somewhere else she would never find Rose, since regardless of Rose's exact position, she wouldn't be in the 'somewhere else.'
The human Sabrina grinned. "She's a sharp one. I like her."
Meanwhile, the two boys looked at each other. "I agree," said Kim, and Juleka was relieved to hear he didn't seem to be mentally struggling with it. "Splitting up makes sense, and I'd rather have the bigger section anyways. We'll look there and not on your turf."
"Agreed!" said Max.
Markov hesitated, but said, "I suppose that makes sense. I'll recalculate my probabilities, focusing on that area."
"Excellent!" Sabrina grinned. "I'm so glad we could work this out. And now..." She hefted her picnic basket. "Desert?"
----
"So now, what, they just owe you a favor?" asked Juleka.
"Yep!" Sabrina beamed, then looked at her duplicate. "Thanks again for your help."
"Hey, you already paid me back," said the human Sabrina lightly. "No worries."
Juleka chuckled as she looked at the remaining food. "I can't believe they just ate it."
"Why? It's delicious!" The changeling Sabrina gave a sly glance to the human one, and Juleka had the brief feeling of being set up for a prank. "Want some?"
"Um, no," said Juleka. "I--"
The changeling Sabrina gasped. "Juleka, are you saying you think I'll order you to do something horrible?" She melodramatically flopped against her duplicate's arms. "I thought you trusted me!"
"I just don't--"
"Oh!" Sabrina's eyes quivered like she was about to cry, though her smile belied this. "I knew you wouldn't trust me. Nobody trusts fey."
Juleka stared. "Are you... are you trying to guilt me into eating your fey food?"
"Who, her?" simpered the human Sabrina. "She's just sad you don't trust her."
"My heart is shattered," intoned Sabrina. "My soul is rent! My--"
"Fine!" snapped Juleka, grabbing one of the desert toffees. She glared at it and sighed. Well, how bad could it be? And she popped it in her mouth.
Both Sabrinas grinned.
---
Alya and Chloe were still in the suite when Juleka came in, now wearing a cheerleader outfit for real. "Let's have some pep!" She chirped as she began a complicated series of gymnastics she probably couldn't have done normally. "For the mystery gang! Like, yay!"
Behind her the Sabrinas came in. The changeling one was recording the performance on her phone and sending it to the boat, where Luka, Rose, and Alix were watching. They all stared as the goth vampire bounced around like a hyperactive school mascot.
Finally, Juleka finished her performance with a set of splits. "Hooray for us! We're awesome!" And it was only then that she came back to herself, picked herself up, and glared at the Sabrinas.
"So!" chirped Sabrina as everyone else, including Rose and Luka, burst into laughter. "As you can see, I learned how to make fey food!"
——
"...so Max, Markov and Kim shouldn't be a problem anymore," Juleka was saying. "Sabrina did great."
The redhead blushed as everyone else clapped. They were gathered in Alix's living room, with Rose and Luka having used one of Alix's charms to teleport directly there. "The rest of the class shouldn't be a problem," Juleka went on. "I'lll ask around tomorrow to see if anyone else will try for the reward. If so, Sabrina's got some emergency baked goods."
Sabrina waggled a basket full of fey pastries, a bright smile on her face.
"Great," said Luka, making a note. "That's one problem down. What about Sabrina and her dad? How do we stop Roger from having police look for her?"
"He hasn't done that yet," mused Alix, sitting next to an armchair. "I mean, nobody stopped Sabrina at school. Don't know why, though."
"Because he doesn't want her," drawled Chloe. She was in the armchair Alix was next to. "He's ridiculous, utterly ridiculous, and wants the other Sabrina. He only needed our Sabrina to get the other one back to our world, and now that other Sabrina's in town, he has no use for his own daughter." She sniffed. "What an idiot. If I had someone like Sabrina I'd respect her."
"Uh," said Alya. "About that." But Sabrina waved her off.
Luka looked around. "Where is other Sabrina anyways?"
"She left after I had my cheerleading debut," muttered Juleka. "Said she'd be around."
Luka smiled at the thought of the video, which he of course had saved so he could tease Juleka in the future. "Well, we need to ask her if she'll hang around town for a while, maybe show her face here or there. If Roger thinks she's still here and gettable without some kind of fairy trade, he has no reason to go looking for our Sabrina. I wouldn't say she should go home, but she should be able to go to school and stuff without problems." He made a note. "Next: you, little sis."
Juleka blinked. "Me?"
"Uh, yeah." Chloe rolled her eyes. "The Lavillants got a good look at you, remember?"
"Oh, right." Juleka sighed. "Here's the problem: if I go back to school, yeah, they might see me there. But if I drop out, though, they'll see me on the news reports about 'two girls missing from same class' and recognize me anyways." She sighed. "I think our best hope is for me to stay at school, maybe change my appearance a little, and hope they don't notice."
"Well, I've got more cheerleading stuff for you!" said Alya brightly. "You know, to disguise yourself."
Juleka glowered, but then Rose hugged her. "I think you make a beautiful cheerleader," she whispered. "I mean, you're a beautiful everything. But that includes cheerleader."
A slight blush reddened Juleka's cheeks. "Uh," she said. "You too, Rose."
Meanwhile, Luka was going down his list. "With all those of the way, the next issue is Ladybug and Chat Noir." He turned to Alya. "Did they get back to you?"
Alya hesitated. "Yeah, but it's not great news."
"What is it?" asked Juleka.
Alya sighed. "I told her that there were some, um, problems at the Lavaillant home--don't worry, I didn't talk about paladins or anything--and Ladybug said she could understand that, but she couldn't just take it on faith." She took a breath. "She'll only believe it if you meet with her and convince her, Rose."
Rose frowned. "So I just need to talk to Ladybug and explain why I can't go home? That doesn't sound so bad."
"Explain without sounding crazy," Alix drawled. "If you say that you ran away to live with your vampire girlfriend because your paladin parents tried to deport your fairy friend back to fairyland and then tried to kill everyone who got in their way, they'll send you to the loony bin. You'll need to make up a fake reason and get her to believe it."
"And," Alya went on, "If you try to explain and don't convince her... I mean, she's Ladybug. She could just scoop you up and run you home."
Rose smiled slightly. "Maybe I could beat her."
"No." Luka's voice was flat. "The Miraculouses are some of the most powerful magic there is. She could fight all of us at once and win." He sighed. "There's just two choices. You can keep hiding in the boat, and hope she never finds you. Or you can meet with her and try to persuade her to stop looking, but if you fail, she takes you home right away."
The room fell silent, and Juleka clenched a fist. It wasn't fair! They weren't Hawkmoth, they just didn't want to be killed by psychotic paladins!
"I'll talk to her," said Rose at last.
"But--" Luka began.
"No. I trust Ladybug and Chat Noir. They're heroes. They'll understand me. They'll do the right thing." Rose stood. "Set up the meeting, Alya."
"Then I'm coming too," Juleka announced.
Luka snapped his head around to stare at her. "What? Why? Jules, you can't do anything. If it's a fight she'll destroy--"
"I'm going to be there," said Juleka in a flat voice. "If Ladybug tries to take Rose, there's a chance--however tiny--that I can stop her or stall her until Rose flees. I don't care if her Lucky Charm is a garlic-coated stake. I'm there." Her voice was like iron. "Clear?"
And that was that.
----
Ladybug and Chat Noir appeared in the abandoned building right on cue. Juleka, hiding up in the rafters and tensed to drop down on Chat Noir if needed, desperately tried to make no noise as the heroes approached Rose.
"You must be Rose. Take this," Ladybug said, giving Rose a green potion. "This is a truth serum. Once you drink it, you won't be able to lie for an hour."
"Courtesy of Master Fu--ow!" Chat Noir winced as Ladybug elbowed him. "Right, right, secret IDs, got it."
Rose drank it at once. "Thank you," she said quietly, "For hearing me out."
"Of course." Ladybug's voice was stern, tense, impersonal. Juleka wondered if Ladybug was nervous at this unusual task. "I'll get right to it. Are you safe where you'r staying right now?"
"Yes," said Rose at once. "Totally."
"Why can't you go home?"
Rose hesitated. "I can't say."
"Then--"
"Wait!" Rose insisted. "If your parents were going to move you away from Paris, you'd have to find some way to talk them out of it so you could keep protecting the city--but you couldn't tell them the real reason, right? You can't reveal your secret identity. You'd have to make something up. I'm in a similar situation."
Chat Noir hesitated. "She, uh, has a point."
"No." Ladybug shook her head. "I couldn't say that I'm Ladybug, but I could say that I help the city in ways nobody else can. I could say people count on me for protection. And so on." She hesitated. "I need an answer, Rose. What's wrong?"
Rose hesitated. "My parents believe my friends are evil," she said at last. "I tried to stop them from... hurting... two friends. They think I'm evil too because of that." She took a breath. "If I go home, they will try to 'fix' me."
Ladybug's mouth dropped. Chat Noir asked, "Are we sure the truth potion works? That story--"
"It works, Chat," murmured Ladybug. Then: "Are you saying they're abusive?"
"I don't know if that's the right word." Rose looked down. "But I won't be safe going home, Ladybug. Please believe me."
"My God." Ladybug stepped back as if slapped. "Then we'll get the police--"
Rose quickly shook her head. "There's no proof," she said. "They'd probably send me home themselves. And..."
Juleka frowned. There were two more reasons not to involve the police: Lieutenant Roger was likely on the Lavillants' side because of his changeling daughter, and also having police try to arrest paladins could be disastrous. Worst case, that could reveal magic to the world. But Rose couldn't say either of those reasons. So what other true reason was there?
"...and I don't want them in jail. Or beaten up by superheroes. I just want them to stop thinking my friends are evil, and that I'm evil for supporting those friends." Rose took a shuddery breath. "Maybe if I'm away for a while, they'll miss me more than they hate my friends. And they'll get better."
Juleka winced. That was pure Rose--concerned with the welfare of even those that had betrayed her. She wished she could hop down and hug her.
Ladybug and Chat Noir stepped away and deliberated. Finally, Ladybug came back. "Okay," she said at last. "We won't tell them where you are, and we won't tell the police... yet. But we'll keep an eye out. It's possible they're hurting other people, and if so, we'll have to intervene."
"I understand." Rose bowed her head. "Thank you so much."
Ladybug gave Rose her number. "Call me anytime you need me," she said. "And good luck." And then she was swinging away.
Juleka dropped from the rafters moments later and embraced Rose. The blonde sniffled and then hugged her. And they stood together for what felt like an endless moment.
----
"Think we should have mentioned Ju--uh, that girl in the rafters?" asked Chat Noir as he sprang away.
"No." Ladybug frowned. "I wonder how Rose's friend got up there."
"Well, apparently she didn't count on my night-vision. Can't really blame her; it's not like she could have any experience with magic." Chat Noir hesitated. "What do you want to do?"
Ladybug sighed. "I'm not comfortable going against Rose's wishes and turning her in. Or her parents... assuming she's the only one they hurt. But I'm going to stay in close contact with Rose, and look in on the Lavillants as well. If anything else is wrong, we act."
"Got it," said Chat Noir, and the two headed off into the distance.

Rise of Red (princess status pending)
“Where are we?” Chloe asks, wide-eyed goggling at the buildings around her like she’s never seen a castle before.
Okay, it’s not like Red’s seen a castle like this one before either, but still. She’s at least making an effort to fit in.
“More like when are we?” Red shoots back. “We’re right where we were before the pocketwatch took us back. It’s a time machine, not a fucking teleportation device.”
Chloe frowns. She’s cute when she looks confused, not that Red cares. “That seems improbable. I mean, what are the odds that we’d be standing in exactly the same spot where we left from…fifty years ago?”
“My mom’s not that old.”
“Your mom built the whole castle in wonderland,” Chloe says, frowning. “She was queen when Lady Alice visited for the first time, which was over thirty years ago. According to our history books—“
Red can’t help the laugh that tears out of her. “Hah! Your history books?”
Chloe’s frown deepens. “What’s wrong with our history books?”
“For one thing, they totally ignore the Wonderland War.” Red snaps, keeping her voice low and dangerous, both because it makes Chloe lean closer to hear her, and because she is not going to cause a time travel incident by making any of these pre-Auradon princess types think that they should instigate the Great War a few years early. “And they say that you guys are the source of all the goodness and light in the world—“
“Wonderland didn’t exactly keep their hands clean either when it came to the villains—“
“We were the villains!” Red hisses, so loudly that Chloe flinches back. “We were part of the villainous uprising that led to you people locking up our friends, and we didn’t want to be pushed back into tweedletown or stuck with my mother for a queen, but those were the only two options you gave us!”
“The books say that Wonderland chose to secede from the United States of Auradon,” Chloe says, meeting Red’s glare straight on. “I know that books can be wrong, but while we’re here, we’re in a time before any of that. We need to remember that history as we know it hasn’t happened yet, so we need to be careful not to change too much and risk creating a time distortion so big we can’t get home.”
“Home. Where my mother is staging a coup.”
“Where my mother is a prisoner waiting for her beheading,” Chloe shoots back. “Unless you want to let things play out like that again, we need to get moving and figure out how to convince your mother not to be….”
“Herself?”
“I was going to say a tyrant.” Chloe says delicately. “But I suppose that works too.”
Red throws her arm out in a sweeping Red Court gesture towards the road ahead of them. Her fingers slip automatically into the shape of a heart, and she flips them back into a rude gesture instead. She’s not giving her mother the satisfaction, even from fifty-odd years away. “Lead the way, princess.”
Chloe makes a face that’s distinctly un-princess-y. “That’s the other thing we need to decide on before we find your mom. I can’t be the princess of Charmington here. Charmington doesn’t exist yet.”
Red scoffs. Of all the stupid things to be concerned about, of course her roommate is concerned about her own royal heritage before she’s supposed to be born. “Your dad’s still a prince. You can be his cousin, or something. I’d never,” she puts as much sarcasm as possible into the word, just in case Chloe really is as dense as she’s acting. “Deny you the royal treatment you so clearly deserve, princess.”
Chloe’s expression is so flat that she might as well be a flounder. “I meant that you cant call me a princess because telling everyone that I’m the heir to a country that doesn’t even exist yet is the fastest way I can think for us to get thrown in jail for espionage, if not outright treason. That is, unless you’d rather be sent to the madhouse instead?”
“Madhouses aren’t real. They’re a story that my mom made up to get those stupid hatters off her case.”
Chloe’s face falls even further. “They’re real. And that’s where we’ll be going if we don’t have a good cover story for who we are and why we’re here.”
Red shrugs. “You’re the one with the history books. Make something up.”
Chloe grins.
Oh, no.

Sabine: "If we legally adopt you both, son, that might make planning the wedding a bit tricky." Ladybug: "Ma--Madame Cheng!"
(Send me 2 sentences and I’ll continue them like they’re lines from a fanfic.)
look this was supposed to be a short drabble and nOPE WHOOPS IM BAD AT SHORT I GUESS
uh, desperada spoilers in this
ps i BARELY edited this sorry for any mistakes
EDIT: now with an AO3 link! because i know my track record with losing my own fics on tumblr
“Well,” Sabine says, much more thoughtfully than Ladybug had expected or been prepared for.  “If we legally adopt you both, son, that might make the wedding a bit tricky.“
“Ma-Madame Cheng!” Ladybug exclaims, feeling herself flush brightly.  “I’m- I’m flattered, really, thank you, but this- this should only be temporary, we don’t really need-” Marinette swallows, trying not to look at Chat Noir.  “Um, adoption.“
She shoots a quick glance over at her partner after all, but his sudden starstruck look is both the opposite of reassuring and sends some unidentifiable emotion shooting through her.  She knows he’s been enjoying this particular akuma fight more than she has- she has the really, deeply unsettling sense that Chat Noir didn’t have this kind of fun as a child before and he seems to be trying to make up for as much lost time as possible as fast as possible.
When she’s honest with herself about it, Marinette’s pretty sure that they both enjoy fighting villains more than they should. They still aren’t usually having this much fun unless it’s Max that’s been akumatised.  (They’re never thrilled to see anyone akumatised, but Max has given them opportunities to pilot a giant robot and leap into a video game- to say that fighting him hasn’t been fun would be such an obvious lie).
This time Marinette had missed both the akuma’s actual monologue and explanation, because even though Chat Noir had been as quick as ever to tackle her out of the way the akuma has such a ludicrously fast recharge time that she’d had no trouble firing again.
Chat Noir had still tried to throw himself over her again.  Marinette is relieved he wasn’t successful, because he already looks about five years old, and she doesn’t want to test whether the effect is cumulative- but that means that she’s currently in the body of a five year old, too.
She hadn’t noticed when it was just Chat who’d been hit, but the akuma’s youth ray seems to change more than just their bodies.  Her Lucky Charm had been her own cat pillow in red-spotted glory and Marinette had spent too long staring at and fretting over it, to the point where they’d both had to hide to retransform.
And the bakery had been close by.
And the Lucky Charm had seemed to indicate that was where they should go.
And there’s a tiny, terrified part of her that’s cropped up since first being hit that had been crying out for her mother.
They’d both retransformed crouched on either side of a bakery counter, barely out of each other’s sight, and then before Marinette could get past her disappointment that they were both still children Maman had appeared only to exclaim over them both.
Maman laughs now, which is also not terribly reassuring.  "Oh, sweethearts, I’m mostly kidding.  I know you’ll be back to your normal selves as soon as you defeat the akuma."  She eyes Chat Noir knowingly, though, and adds, "Although, I might remind you that it isn’t only young children who can be adopted.  There are teenage adoptions, you know.  It might raise some difficulties to adopt you both but I can’t see that anyone would want to separate you, any more than I would keep my own daughter from her best friend.”
Marinette viciously strangles any and all noise that tries to escape her throat at that.
Chat Noir does no such thing, letting out a sound that’s more cat than human in his delight, and this time Marinette turns to face him entirely.
He looks as happy as she’s ever seen him. His ears and tail are both giving happy constant twitches, and his purring isn’t the loudest she’s heard it but it’s getting close, and his eyes have dilated wider than she’s seen them since the time Venom Rose had conjured catnip all around them.
The longer Marinette looks at her partner, the more the sudden crack in her heart widens.  He looks- he looks so happy about the prospect of adoption.  He looks way too happy about it.
Marinette’s not even going to think about her mother’s offer to adopt her.  Ladybug is used to a certain level of identity shenanigans, because it’s already a struggle juggling Alya and Nino knowing about each other and everyone knowing about Chloe and Adrien knowing about Viperion while Chat Noir knows about Aspik, which she still hasn’t found a good way or time to explain to her partner-
“Kids,” Maman says gently, breaking through Marinette’s racing thoughts.  “Can you fight like this?  Do you need help?” She reaches behind her without looking and seems to let a broom handle hop into her hand.  “I may not be a superhero, but I do know how to fight.”
“You do?” Chat Noir breathes, finally breaking his silence.  He’s bouncing on the balls of his feet now, tail tip twitching rapidly.
Maman laughs.  “Dear, I’m a mother.  Of course I do.  How else would I make sure my daughter knows how to fight, too?  Although I admit she has a much better handle on strategy than I do, even at her age!”
Ladybug finally, finally breaks herself out of her deepening worry over her partner’s enthusiasm to wrap an arm around his elbow and tug before her mother can say anything else embarrassing or potentially dangerous.  She does not need Chat Noir to think of Marinette as being a strategist.  “I’m really grateful, Ma- Madame Cheng, but it isn’t safe without our powers.  We’ll be alright if we stay together, but thank you so much for your generosity!”
“If you’re sure,” Maman says, looking honestly disappointed.  “But I want you both to know you can come back here anytime, okay? Any time at all , and if you need anything at all.”
Marinette thinks that’s the end of it, and she finally gets her partner to move in the direction of the door, only to stop when she hears her mother speak up one last time.
“I meant it about the adoption,” Maman says gently.   “For both of you.  I don’t know your home lives, but you spend a lot more time fighting for all of us than you do at home- especially you, Chat Noir, we have all seen how you protect your partner.  And no matter your decision- really, you are welcome any time.  There is always space for one or two more at dinner.”
“T-thank you, Madame Cheng,” Marinette manages, desperately looking away from her partner because the hope and happiness suffusing his face at her mother’s offer is too much.  It’s way too much.
It makes her already-cracking heart sink down to the soles of her feet, because she knew already that Chat Noir doesn’t have the happiest home life, but she didn’t think it was so bad that he would be this over the moon about being invited to share her home life.
It would be so dangerous to start having him over for dinner regularly.
But he looks so happy, the expression transforming his child’s face in a much more open way than she’s used to seeing on him at their real ages.  The mask does nothing to hide his delight.
She’s going to have to invite him.
She doesn’t know how she’s going to handle Ladybug not making it to family dinners they’ve both been invited to, not without either hurting his feelings (because her goofy partner is far more sensitive than almost anyone has realised) or risking too many dropped hints.  But she’s going to have to figure out some way around that.
“You’re sure you don’t need help, you two?” Maman asks worriedly as she opens the door for them.  “You should gather some of your allies, at least.”
Marinette immediately pictures a five year old Chloe and winces. Five year old Alya, while an intriguing thought, also doesn’t strike her as a good idea.
But she’s known Nino forever and she’s confident he can keep his head in battle even if he suffers the same age reversion as they both have, and she thinks Luka would have no trouble remaining calm and focused as well.  Plus, Second Chance means that Luka can stay an adult even when the rest of them are struggling.
“We’ll get our allies,” she assures her mother, even though she feels a little odd about it. “We’ll all be okay.”
“-just come back here if you still need help,” Maman says firmly. “Both of you! Partners should stick together.”
Chat Noir is practically vibrating with happiness as he exclaims, “We will!”
Maman smiles.  “Good luck then, Chat Noir, little bug.”
For the very first time Marinette takes Chat Noir with her to Master Fu’s.  Master Fu had given her a go-ahead on it after Desperada, after Marinette had spilled the day’s events to him out of a desperate need for reassurance only for her Master to gently point out that she knows very well who the most reassuring presence in her life is and it certainly isn’t him.
And for the first time he’d said it was time to be more honest with her partner, time to begin to let Chat Noir in on more secrets.
As paranoid as it makes her, Marinette wants to involve him more.  She knows it hurts him not to know, that he feels like she doesn’t trust him when that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Master Fu doesn’t seem terribly surprised to see their child forms or that they’ve shown up together.  He slides the Turtle Miraculous off without being asked and hands it to Marinette, then raises a questioning eyebrow when she hesitates over the Snake Miraculous and looks at Chat Noir.
She looks between him and Master Fu, distraught and unsure how much of her upset is due to their forcibly changed ages.
“You know the wisdom of your choices better than I ever can, Ladybug,” Master Fu says gently.  “If you think it is wise, then let it be so.”
Marinette takes a deep breath, then turns to Chat Noir and says, “I can go and get Carapace.  Can you bring this to Luka Couffaine? He lives on the Seine, on a boat called the Liberty.  He shouldn’t be too hard to find.”
Chat Noir’s pupils dilate again, with happiness or shock or both, she isn’t sure.  “I-I’ll go straight there. Thank you for trusting me with this, my Lady!”
Marinette stares after him, her heart pounding in a way it does not have her permission to do, and realises that if he’s this happy and Maman is that determined then there is no way her parents aren’t about to adopt a stray Chat as thoroughly as they possibly can.
It’s not necessarily a displeased realisation.
He looked so happy.  She’s used to his light-hearted humour, but she’s never seen his whole being light up when it had when Maman had started teasing about adopting them both.
The more Marinette thinks about it the more she starts to like the idea.  Chat Noir seems to waver between just fit enough and skinny enough to worry her, and knowing that he’s eating dinner with her would be a relief.  Knowing that he’s getting a little more of the affection he seems to crave so badly will be a relief.
Letting go of her worries and accepting that her family has maybe (definitely) gained a Chat by now, Marinette takes off herself to find Nino.  Navigating at this age and size is marginally more difficult but far more fun and she can live with that trade-off.
And the sooner they defeat this akuma the sooner she can make sure that no matter what Chat Noir’s real home life is like, he’ll have an escape to her own family.
(And if she tries really hard she can ignore the screaming revelation that her mother is apparently a Ladynoir shipper).

Just a Dream - A MLB Oneshot
Birds were chirping, the sun was drifting through the dust lazily, and Alix was fighting to stay awake. Her dad had had to run to the Louvre early, so she'd been dropped off a full hour before school started. Armed with her backpack stuffed full of half-completed homework and a cooling cup of foul-smelling coffee, Alix trudged upstairs towards the locker room. She put her lunch, several binders, and her foul-smelling gym stuff into her locker before taking her backpack, now much lighter, upstairs.
The door was unlocked even though Mrs. Bustier still hadn't left the early morning teacher meetings she had to attend every Friday. Alix nudged the door open with her toe, shouldered a yawn, and paused mid-step as she spied the other person in the room.
In the spot where Adrien would usually sit was a girl with pink and orange streaks in her blonde hair, along with several friendship bracelets braided into the hair at the nape of her neck. Her mouth was open as she slept, and messy red eyeshadow was smudged around the corners of her eyes. She wore a band shirt that Alix did not recognize, and black ripped jeans with worn-through tennis shoes.
Alix had never seen her before.
Alix carefully scootched past her and went to set her stuff down at her desk. Then, after a moment's deliberation, she walked back down the aisle and prodded the girl's arm.
"Hey!" She called. "Time to get up, please."
"Ugh!" The girl groaned, rubbing her eyes as she woke. "Did I fall asleep in class again?" She rubbed her eyes as she looked up and squinted at the empty board. Her eyebrows suddenly knit together in confusion.
"Uh, who are you?" Alix asked as the newcomer stared at the board like they were trying to remember where they'd seen it before.
"Marilyn…?" She answered as she turned to look at Alix. Her jaw fell open as she took in Alix's bubble-gum pink hair and her unique outfit. Alix didn't think that was quite fair, seeing as what she was wearing. She crossed her arms and stared at the punk girl. Then, Marilyn said something Alix hadn't quite expected: "Alex Kubdel."
Alix blinked. "Have we met?" She asked slowly.
Marilyn blinked slowly. She looked at the board and then put her head down again. "I must still be dreaming." She yawned absentmindedly.
"Uh, no you're not?" Alex asked. The door swung open again. It was Kim, fresh from his morning sprints around the school and holding a green smoothie and a diet soda to help it go down. Marilyn sat back up when she saw him.
"Le Chien Kim." She said aloud.
"Just Kim," Kim said absentmindedly as he trooped up the stairs past Alix. Then, he paused. "Have we met?" He asked.
Marilyn stared at the both of them. Her eyes flickered from their frames to the classroom board, to the ceiling. Then, she shrugged and laid her head down on her folded arms. "Not my weirdest dream." She mumbled. "But while I'm here, you should know I totally ship you two together."
"What?" Alix asked. Kim looked abosolutely repulsed.
"Yeah." Marilyn nodded. "You and Kim should totally get together and do those weird couple yoga things and race each other around Paris. It'd be cute."
"Excuse me." Alix planted a hand down in front of Marilyn's face. "Do we even know you? Who do you think you are, to barge in and start making judgment calls on our lives?"
Marilyn sat back up, clearly annoyed that her sleep schedule is being interrupted. "Don't shoot." She drawled. "And it's not just me. Half the fandom thinks you should get together!"
The door swung open again. Marilyn turned to see who had entered, and recited: "Ivan Bruell, Mylene Haprele."
Their other two classmates stopped in surprise. Alix growled.
"You're already together and you're super cute." Marilyn giggled. "I was so excited when I saw Stoneheart for the first time! It was so cute. The way Ladybug caught Mylene while capturing that akuma was so freaking cool!"
Ivan furrorwed his brow at her. "How do you know about that?" He asked.
"Well, the episode was kind of made of close-ups. It was super awesome. If you ask me, they shouldn't have done the red and black spotted backsplash for when Alya got trapped behind the car though." Marilyn shrugged.
"Trapped behind a car?" Alix asked.
"Black and red spots?" Mylene tilted her head in confusion.
"Yeah. Animator decision though. Can I go back to sleep?" Marilyn yawned and put her head on top of a fist.
"Uh, no, you can't." Alix rolled her eyes. "You can't just appear in our classroom, say all these weird things, and go to sleep when we want to ask you stuff about it. So, sit up." She grabbed the back of Marilyn's shirt and hoisted the girl into an upright position as Mylene, Ivan, and Kim gathered around her.
"Sheesh!" Marilyn complained. "Why are you so touchy? My dreams aren't usually like this."
Alix reached out and grabbed the fleshy part of Marilyn's arm. She pinched, hard. Marilyn yelped.
"See?" Alix asked, frustrated. "We're not a dream. Now pay attention."
Marilyn blinked and looked down and where a red mark was starting to form on her arm. She took her skin in between her fingers and pinched herself. Nothing happened. "Oh my gosh," Marilyn said loudly as her eyes began to grow wide. "Oh my gosh!"
"What?" Alix asked irritably.
"I've been transported to the miraculous ladybug realm?" Marilyn shrieked. "Oh gosh, this is what I get for staying up late finishing my stupid math homework! I'm sorry, karma!"
"What's she going on about?" Kim asked the other three classmates as Marilyn seized her own hair and began to pull. They shrugged.
The door to the classroom opened again. A noise was beginning to come from the courtyard below. Students were starting to arrive. Marilyn spun as more people entered the room. "Rose Lavillant, Juleka Couffaine, Max Kante, and Nathaniel Kurtzburg!" Marilyn counted off on her fingers. "That means I'm in a room with Timebreaker, Dark Cupid, Horrificator, Stoneheart, Princess Fragrance, Refleckta, Gamer, and Evillustrator! That's like, a third of season one?"
"Season one?" Mylene asked hesitantly.
Marilyn jumped up and ran to the board. "You guys are part of my favorite TV Show, Miraculous Ladybug! The first episode of season three just barely came out and – ugh!" She paused with a long white piece of chalk in her hands as she shook her tiny fists. "I hate Lila so much!" She shrieked before she began to scribble three lists on the board.
"Lila's such a good and interesting person, though!" Rose said. She looked as confused as the rest of them but still had to stand up for her friend. "She's a personal friend of Prince Ali's!"
"Not really." Marilyn paused in her list writing to turn around and face Rose. "She really is a stupid, stupid liar, and I hate her guts."
"What are you doing?" Kim asked.
On the board were, as previously mentioned, three long lists. The last one had only one word: Chameleon. The others had twenty-six with a 'Christmas Special' in between. Alix recognized many of the names right off the bat. Timebreaker, of course, had been her akumatized identity. In fact, it seemed like Marilyn was listing akumas. Some of the ones she was talking about Alix didn't even recognize. Who was Copycat, or The Collector?
"I've seen every episode," Marilyn announced proudly. "That's about 700 minutes of watch time between all released episodes, not including the webisodes or the chibi episodes, which are so cute!" Marilyn paused to squeal as she began to circle certain villains on her lists. "I've watched episodes in French, German, Spanish, but mostly English. I've transcribed articles for MLB Wikia, and I make fan theories, and I can't draw super well but I love the fanart in this fandom. It's so pretty!" She finished circling and proudly presented her work to the stunned kids in the room. "These are by far the best episodes. Like this one, Style Queen, we learn what happened to Adrien's mom, and it's so sad!"
"What did I just walk into?" Someone asked from the doorway. It was Chloe, with her white designer purse slung over her shoulder and Sabrina by her side. Everyone rolled their eyes as she strolled inside. She examined the board tactfully. "You're missing akumas if that's what you're trying to do. Vanisher, for one." She flipped her hand at Sabrina, who looked delighted to have been awknowledged.
"No, I'm listing episodes," Marilyn said as if it were obvious. She sized up the two new girls. "Sabrina Raincomprix. Your dad is the police officer who needs to learn to cool his jets." Before Sabrina could defend her dad, Marilyn squinted at Chloe. "Ugh." She said. "I hated you back in season one for what you did to Kim, but I guess you do get a small redemption for what happened during the Queen's fight episodes and for shaming Hawkmoth on his fashion." Marilyn snorted and began to laugh.
"Episodes?" Sabrina asked softly.
Alix rolled her eyes. "She thinks she's asleep and we're all from a TV Show she watches when she's awake."
"You are!" Marilyn insisted. "I have clips and articles and fanarts on my phone to prove it!" She reached into her pocket and pulled out a sleek phone with a large screen. When she showed the screen to their classmates, they fell silent. Then, after a long pause, Nathaniel asked: "Is that supposed to be Marinette and Adrien?"
"Yes." Marilyn blushed with pride. "Aren't they adorable? They're my OTP."
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng?" Chloe asked in disgust.
"Yes." Marilyn squealed. "Did you know her name was almost Bridgette when they first started animating her? And her love interest was originally Felix, but Felix didn't have much opportunity for character development, so they let him go and made Adrien, our sinammon roll son, instead?"
Someone made a squeaking sound from the door. Everyone turned to see Alya and Nino standing in the doorway, looking extremely surprised and confused.
"I'm sorry." Nino coughed as he tried to talk around clearing his throat. "Did you just call my dude a cinnamon roll?"
"With an 's'," Marilyn confirmed. "If you ask me, I think Chat is way hotter than Adrien. He's just so much more… free and happy. Sure of himself."
No one was quite sure of what to say.
Marilyn looked around the room in amazement. "Woah." She said. "This is amazing. This has to be a dream. There's no way this can actually be happening. I mean, all we're missing is-"
"Hey, guys, what's going on?" Adrien asked as he walked into class behind Nino and Alya. Marilyn's jaw dropped and unhinged as she stared with wide eyes at him. "Oh, new student?" He asked uneasily.
"Oh my gosh!" Marilyn jumped off the desk and sprinted to him. "I have so many things I want to tell you and – holy crap, I can't believe it's you!" She screamed.
Adrien looked extremely uncomfortable as he awkwardly set his backpack down and pushed it under his desk with his foot.
"Where's my phone?" Marilyn panicked. "I have to show all of you guys my favorite Ladynoir fanart!"
"Ladynoir?" Alya perked up. Nino groaned.
"No." He complained. "Don't start her up on this. They're not a couple."
"I know!" Marilyn growled in frustration. "Isn't it so frustrating? I mean, if they would reveal themselves already, we could all go home and have a lovely rest of our lives, but no! They have to work the stupid love square into every minute of this show and –" She suddenly whirled on Adrien, "If I hear you call Ladybug 'a very good friend' one more time, I'm going to freak out."
"I haven't!" Adrien protested feebly.
"Back up." Alix sighed. "What's Ladynoir?"
"The ship name for Ladybug and Chat Noir." Alya supplied.
"There's also Adrienette, Marichat, and Ladrien. My personal favorite is Ladynoir. Power couple all the way!" Marilyn pumped her fist in the air.
Alix knew she could be a little slow on the uptake sometimes. Sometimes she had to be retaught things from math and her French teacher had to go a bit slower for her, but if she was counting correctly then that meant…
"Are you talking about Marinette?" Alya asked with a face. "Because, uh, she's smitten, and not with Chat Noir."
Adrien blinked and looked around. "Can someone explain what's going on?
"She thinks we're all from her favorite TV Show that apparently centers around a love square between you, Marinette, Chat Noir, and Ladybug while they fight akumas." Max supplied.
"Wait, what?" Marilyn asked.
Adrien looked equally taken aback. "But… I'm not into Marinette. Or Chat Noir for that matter."
"Of course you are!" Marilyn groaned. She looked like she was going to have an anesrum. "You're the secondary character and the love interest and everything depends on you!" She paused. "Actually, scratch that, basically every single problem in the entire series would be solved if Chloe learned to be nice, Lila quit lyin'-" Adrien stiffened at that remark, "-And if Gabriel and Natalie got together."
Adrien began to choke. "What?" He asked. "Excuse me?"
"No, but hear me out!" Marilyn exclaimed. "If Gabriel and Natalie got together, then Hawkmoth wouldn't have a reason to send out any more akumas, and Ladybug and Chat Noir could reveal their identities," She gave a not-so-subtle glare at Adrien, "And the love square would be resolved and everything would be fine!" She threw her hands up in the air along with her cell phone. Everyone watched it turn flips through the air until it hit the wall and remained still beside the door.
Mylene raised her hand. "I still don't see how Hawkmoth plays into that." She said. "Is Hawkmoth trying to, like, get Gabriel and Natalie together?"
Marilyn snorted. "If only our problems were that easy." She rolled her eyes. "Anyways, if Chloe were nicer people wouldn't get akumatized as much because as of right now she's caused fifteen akumas, not counting her own akumatizations. Most of those were in Season One, so she's gotten better, but still. Marinette's caused eleven, however, I count Zombiezou as one both Marinette and Chloe caused because Chloe caused the situation, but it was Marinette's anger that drew the Akuma in the first place." She paused to take a deep breath as everyone stared.
Finally, Rose piped up from the back. "And, uhm, what about Lila lying?"
"Oh, she's a nasty rotten liar who I've never heard spout a single truth since she was akumatized in Volpina. She's an absolute brat." Marinlynn answered with an eyeroll as she leaned back against Mrs. Bustier's desk.
"I am not!" Someone shouted from the doorway. It was Lila. Her face was turning red and her fists were clenched and shaking. "I've never told a single lie!" She said, crossing her arms over her chests.
"Oh, like when you stole Adrien's book about superheroes, got a fox miraculous knockoff and dropped his book in the trash, causing him to get grounded for life?" Marilynn asked with a raised eyebrow. "I'm quite sorry no one took you up on your sprained wrist lie, considered you switched up what hand it was at the end of the day."
The room fell deathly silent. Lila's face was becoming multichromatic as she shook with rage. Marilynn licked the tip of her finger, pointed at Lila, and made a sizzling sound with her teeth. Then, she turned to the class. "You all should probably know she's actively and willingly worked with Hawkmoth before. To the point when she was angry at Marinette and Adrien she literally took an akuma she found that was supposed to be for Marinette and put it in her own earring. The entire fandom hates her guts and we make memes all the time about how the fox says nothing but lies."
"This is unbelievable." Adrien shook his head. "The book was returned miraculously and I was ungrounded. Dad never even said anything to me about it. And how can you expect us to believe all of this? It's honestly… far fetched."
Marilyn began to laugh. She laughed so hard she doubled over onto her knees and then knelt on the ground laughing. Finally, she looked up with tears in her eyes. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng returned the book for you. But not before she showed it to Master Fu and he took three-million photos of it."
"Master… Fu?" Adrien stumbled, eyes wide.
"Mhmm!" Marilynn nodded. She crossed her legs criss-cross applesauce underneath her and smiled. "The Collector was a really interesting episode. We found out the identity of Hawkmoth."
The entire class did a double intake. "You know who Hawkmoth is?" Alya gasped. She reached for her phone, but Nino pulled it out of her pocket and held it under his arm so she couldn't wrench it back.
"I know everyone's identities." Marilyn's eyes sparkled. "Even Ladybug and Chat Noir." Everyone was silent; no one believed her.
Marilyn stood back up and wandered back to the board. The class parted as she went. She picked up the chalk and examined the list in season two. "Queen Bee first transformed in the Episode Queen Wasp." She recited as she made a large arrow pointing to the episode in question, which was already circled for importance, and wrote 'Chloe Bourgeois' beside it. "And Carapace transformed in Anansi." Marilyn shivered as she made another arrow. "I hate spiders." She murmured as she wrote 'Nino Lahiffe' beside the episode.
No one said anything.
"Rena Rouge first transformed in Sapotis." Marilyn continued as she drew a third arrow and wrote 'Alya Cesaire' next to the episode title.
"Wait," Alex said. "Do you mean… Alya and Nino are superheroes?"
Adrien looked very surprised. He stared at Nino as his best friend rubbed the back of his neck. "You were Carapace?" He asked.
"Yeah, sorry man." Nino shrugged. "I wasn't really supposed to tell anyone, even you."
Marilyn snorted, and leaned her head against the chalkboard.
"What?" Adrien asked her.
"Nothing." Marilyn shook her head. "Just… Irony." She made an arrow pointing to the Collector and then paused. She turned around to stare at Adrien, and the corners of her mouth twitched downwards in sympathy. Then she turned back to the board and scrawled 'Gabriel Agreste' beside the episode.
Adrien lurched backward as if he'd been shot. "No!" He exclaimed. "He was an akuma. He was The Collector! He can't be Hawkmoth."
"He akumatized himself," Marilyn answered, stepping back from the board and tossing the chalk in her hand. "He knew you were hot on his trail when he discovered the book was gone, so he akumatized himself. Natalie knew. She's in love with him though, so she keeps silent about the whole thing."
Adrien fell back against his desk with a thump. Marilyn examined her writing. "Ladybug and Chat Noir appear in every episode, of course." She announced to the room. "They're the love square, the main event. Watching them flail around each other is honestly why the show is so popular."
Max blinked and looked sideways at the board. "Ladybug and Chat Noir are the Love Square?" He asked.
"Yes." Marilyn nodded.
"And how many akumas has Marinette caused?" Max asked.
"A lot." Marilyn chuckled. "She did Gamer, Antibug, and Volpina in season one."
"No, she didn't." Chloe and Lila said at the exact same time. They looked at each other in surprise, and then Chloe turned back to Marilyn. "Ladybug did." She said. "I was akumatized when she called me a liar to Chat Noir."
"And I was akumtised when Ladybug came out of nowhere and yelled at me!" Lila exclaimed. Marilyn snorted.
"Yeah, Marinette isn't perfect, but she always does her best. Adrien didn't even apologize for akumatising Copycat." Marilyn gave Adrien a quick glare.
"Copycat?" Alya asked. "Wasn't that when Chat Noir stole the Mona Lisa?"
"Theo Barbot." Marilyn recited. "He sculpted the statue of Ladybug and Chat Noir. When Ladybug didn't show because she was busy stealing Adrien's phone, Chat Noir took the opportunity to tell Theo that he and Ladybug were dating. Theo was akumatized and Adrien never even apologized."
Silence filled the room. Adrien dragged his sweat-covered hands up and down his pants legs. He was still reeling over his dad being Hawkmoth. Marilyn laughed. "You don't all have to look at me like that. Marinette has stolen, like, three people's phones."
"Why would Adrien have to apologize for Chat Noir?" Chloe asked quietly.
Marilyn blinked. "Oh, you're still puzzling on that? You're a little slow on the uptake. Adrien's alter-ego is Chat Noir. With the black cat ring and his kwami Plagg he can transform into the cat-themed superhero."
"Stop," Nino whispered. He looked like he was in pain.
"Wait, wait wait!" Max waved his hands about. "Going back to that love-square-thingy you mentioned with the Ladynoir and Marilap-"
"Marichat!" Marilyn corrected with a glare.
"That would mean that Adrien takes up a place in all those points as either Adrien or Chat Noir and if I'm to interpret your claims of Marinette akumatising Lila and Chloe correctly, then that means that Marinette would also take up a place on each pairing of the square because Marinette would be-"
The door flew open with a bang and a girl with a red face and a pink purse skidded into the room. "Not late!" She yelled triumphantly, crashing into Alya as Marilyn's eyes grew wide.
"Oh no," Nino whispered softly into his hand.
Marilyn opened her mouth as wide as she could and screamed: "LADYBUG!"
