they both look very lonely in a crowd of adults so I made them friends
Ok also i wanted to point out that i headcanon hopeful steward as mute and they uses body language to communicate. Idk why actually, maybe to emphasize the similarity with skykids? Im pretty sure that skykids can't communicate with spirits the same way they communicate with each other.
And what about pleading child? They need therapy and a good friend, that's it
Heres an old wip btw, i just gave up on it at some point😭

I was asked to tell more about the holidays in my legacy gameplay, so here is a super long and detailed post on the subject! 😊
How I use holidays in my game
I used to hate the holidays, cos I saw them as something my sims had to participate in and there was always so much pressure to complete all the traditions! But then I cracked it...
Holidays are a great way to add objectives to gameplay! When every day is some kind of a holiday with its own theme, there's always something for my sims to do.
I tick the "day off" box only if the holiday is a major one or the traditions would feel too rushed if my sim worked on the same day.
I try to have a lot of outdoor/traveling holidays in the spring and summer, and more home lot based holidays in the autumn and winter.
For some holidays, I add a diverse set of traditions and then choose only one or two to complete every sim year.
Sometimes my sims are just too busy with other things in life to participate at all. The No more "awful holiday" sad moodlet mod (linked below) is super useful because it completely takes the pressure off of completing holiday traditions!
It's very refreshing to use custom icons for the holidays, it matters more than you'd think! I use the More selectable icons mod (linked below) for this feature.
I've taken ideas and inspiration for some of my holidays from countless lists made by other simmers over the years.

More holiday ideas
If you want to create your own holidays, but struggle with coming up with ideas, here are some things I always consider when I create holidays.
Can you match a world with a season? Summer holidays in Sulani, winter holidays in Mt. Komorebi, etc.
Alternatively, have a summer holiday in Sulani when it's winter elsewhere, a winter holiday in Mt. Komorebi when it's summer elsewhere, etc.
What if you took the default holidays and placed them in a different season? Celebrate Winterfest on the beach in the summer!
Can you match a world with a theme? Nature holidays in Granite Falls, city holidays in San Myshuno, etc.
Think of a simple theme for your holiday (games, sports, food, animals, books, etc.) and choose traditions based on that.
Create a holiday that requires your sim to travel from world to world to complete all the traditions.
Have a 3 day holiday for a vacation trip, with different traditions to complete each day.
Create holidays for specific life stages. What would a teen or an elder sim do for their holiday?
Create a holiday for each occult type. How would a Spellcaster spend their holiday?
Can you think of a way to combine holidays and clubs?
Put two really different holidays right next to each other so you have lots of variety in gameplay.
If you're playing a legacy, create a holiday for each heir sim based on their personality, and have their offspring celebrate these holidays to honor them.
Research real life holidays that are celebrated around the world to find new ideas.
Can't find the traditions that you need in your game? Follow this tutorial by LittleMsSam to create your own traditions!

Sword Fighting (Nico Di Angelo x Son of Aphrodite)
link to part two
Summary: You were a likable asshole—everything not associated with Aphrodite. You were devilishly handsome but with a temper of Zeus himself. It was as if you were a byproduct of Aphrodite and Ares. Unsurprisingly, you catch the eyes of many, but more so, the son of Hades, Nico Di Angelo.
tags: no specific timeline/book, oblivious idiots in love, Nico isn't dating Will, you did have something with the son of Apollo, dancing around feelings
Nico watched from the shadows, eyes fixed on the training field where you and Percy Jackson were locked in a heated sparring match. Each movement you made was precise, and confident—like you were born with a sword in your hand. The sunlight caught the sharp angles of your face, highlighting the look of sheer determination in your eyes as you deflected Percy’s swing with a graceful sidestep.
Nico tried to look away. He knew he should, but something kept his gaze glued to you. Perhaps it was the influence of Aphrodite in your veins, that inherent allure that seemed to draw in everyone around you, making them wish they could be closer, even when they knew you could be merciless. But deep down, Nico knew it wasn’t just that. He had felt the allure of others before, including Percy, but what he felt now was different. It was stronger.
You were unlike anyone he’d met at camp. A likable asshole, some called you, a paradox that intrigued him. While most children of Aphrodite were known for their beauty and charm, you were the polar opposite. Devilishly handsome, yes, but with a temper that could rival even Zeus himself. It was as if the gods had mixed the charms of your mother with the fierce spirit of Ares, creating something dangerously compelling. And that danger was precisely what caught Nico’s attention.
Your sword collided with Percy’s in a shower of sparks, and a grin spread across your face. The thrill of the fight, the intensity of it—those things stirred something inside you that Nico could almost feel from where he stood. It was part of what made you so maddeningly attractive. While others found themselves drawn to you for your looks or your charisma, Nico was captivated by that spark, that raw, untamed energy you seemed to possess.
And it frustrated him.
Nico wasn’t one to get swept up in emotions, especially not for someone so openly infuriating. You were arrogant, quick-tempered, and brimming with an insufferable confidence. Yet, there you were, invading his every thought. He wanted to hate you, to dismiss you as just another self-absorbed child of Aphrodite. But every time he watched you—whether you were laughing with friends, glaring at someone who had crossed you, or fighting as you were now—he felt his resolve crumble a little more.
Percy swung his sword in a wide arc, but you were faster, ducking under it and stepping to the side. “You’re getting sloppy, Jackson!” you teased, voice tinged with that self-assured arrogance Nico had grown used to hearing.
“Yeah, yeah,” Percy grumbled, adjusting his stance. “Just you wait.”
You turned your head slightly, as if sensing Nico’s gaze on you. For a split second, your eyes met his, a flicker of something unreadable passing between you. Nico’s heart skipped a beat. Then, just as quickly, you turned back to Percy, deflecting another attack with a casual flick of your wrist.
“You’re staring again, Di Angelo.” A familiar voice came from behind him. Not bothering to turn, Nico felt Will Solance come and stand next to him, probably wearing a knowing smirk. He felt his cheeks burning, “Shut up, Solace.”
No heat was behind his words; after all, it seemed foolish to argue with one of his only friends. Will chuckled, glancing past Nico to where you continued to spar with Percy. “He has that effect on people, you know.” he remarked with a knowing smile.
Nico’s jaw tightened, an unexpected pang of jealousy curling in his chest. He knew Will meant nothing by it, but the reminder stirred something inside him, something dark and possessive. You and Will had a brief romance once, something that had lasted only a few months before you both decided to part ways amicably. But despite the clean break, the memory of your closeness with Will gnawed at Nico. He hated that it did. The two of you had managed to stay friends, and he couldn’t deny that Will still harbored a certain fondness for you—one that Nico wasn’t sure he could compete with.
“Right,” Nico muttered, eyes narrowing as he watched you effortlessly parry another of Percy’s attacks. “He seems to have that effect on everyone.”
Will raised an eyebrow, glancing sideways at Nico. “Jealous, are we?”
Nico shot him a glare. “No.” he lied, a little too quickly. He hated how transparent he could be sometimes, especially around Will, who knew him too well for comfort.
Will sighed, his smile softening. “Look, I get it. He’s…hard to ignore.” He paused, choosing his words carefully. “But you should know, our thing was just a fling. We’re friends now, and he’s—”
“Don’t,” Nico cut in sharply, his voice tight. “I don’t need you to explain anything.”
"But—" Will tried to speak, however, Nico had already disappeared. Huffing in frustration, the son of Apollo continued watching as you easily beat Percy, sword hovering dangerously under his chin. When would those two oblivious idiots realize they're pinning for one another?

We all know the story, Steffon on Aerys' orders goes to find a bride for Rhaegar, one of good lineage and valerian. But he doesn't find any good enough so Rhaegar marries Elia.
Now, let's imagine, there is a last Velaryon who is consequently the Lady of the Velaryon house but is constantly traveling to the free cities to increase the fortune of the house so Velaryon!Reader went unnoticed by Steffon.
What would Yandere Rhaegar's reaction be when Velaryon Reader appears at the Harrenhal tournament married to a man from Essos and already with three children, two girls and a boy, all with platinum hair? 👀
"you're in the water, i'm in the fire."
° | My first order! I can't believe it!! Thank you very much 💜 English is not my first language. | ° | This is a yandere work and may contain triggering behavior. I'm not in favor of that in real life. | ° | pairing: Rhaegar Targaryen x Velaryon! Reader
Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, the last dragon and with the advancing madness of King Aerys, the final hope of house Targaryen. Surrounded by an air of melancholy and a veil of sadness, he sought in books and parchments a refuge for a tired mind beyond his tender years.
His thirst for reading, always insatiable and sadness for no reason, it was no surprise that the Targaryen sought answers in his most reliable “friends”, books, the certain mental instability that surrounded him left fertile ground for his almost insane thoughts and dreams to take over. leadership. He had clung to every word and prophecy spoken about the Targaryen house as if it was the only thing that mattered, he had complete confidence and certainty that the promised prince would be born from his bloodline. Of his blood and flesh. A justification that went beyond men's understanding for their birth and unhappy existence. He had a greater purpose.
And he certainly wouldn't rest until he accomplished it. His marriage to Elia, like so many other royals, was purely political with no real feelings shared between them. Rhaegar didn't feel frustrated, Elia was kind, intelligent, fun and beautiful, from the second largest house in Westeros, he had nothing to complain about. A bolt of happiness struck him every time Elia managed to get pregnant, it was the beginning of the realization of his destiny. Just one more and then finally a dragon will have three heads as it should be.
But of course that didn't happen. The wife was very weak, her body would not be able to handle another pregnancy without her dying in the process and possibly along with the child who could not be born. It was not a pleasant risk, it would also cause certain disagreements in the political relationship with Dornes. He just needed a son, no matter who mother him.
It was a sunny day that morning, the sun was pleasantly warm, and the glory of the day in the riverlands spread before his eyes. On the sides of the road, the fruit trees hide with their delicate greenery and the birds busy with their melodies come out of hiding to enjoy some of the sun's rays. He was accompanied to the tournament at Harrenhal by his wife, children and father, who, paranoidly, would not allow any of his guards to remain more than two feet away from him. Observing each of those present with dark and suspicious purple eyes, not recognizing their own allies and subjects.
They arrived at dusk in time to attend the tournament's opening ceremonies, a grand banquet held in the Hall of a Hundred Hearths with nearly every lord of the seven kingdoms present, laughing and dancing along to the lively melody that resounded throughout the great hall. Elia quickly walked away to continue a conversation with his brother, the king remained quiet, his half-closed gaze migrating from one person to another with the speed and distrust of a trained dog. And after countless requests from nervous ladies and smiling gentlemen, Rhaegar surrendered to playing at least one melody on the harp.
The spirited Lady Lyanna seemed more moved, shedding a few tears and letting out a few shaky sighs, and Rhaegar was almost convinced that she was a fragile and lovely maiden before Stark poured, between grumbles and without any hesitation, an entire goblet of wine on her head of the younger brother. The action managed to surprise the prince, the girl had a joy that was not constantly present in her life and that was very well appreciated. Her mind strayed for a moment, and Rhaegar admired the young woman's beauty, she was charming and youthful like a flower in bloom.
His thoughts strayed again as an unsettling silence fell over the great hall like never before, the ladies ceased their gossip and the lords no longer clinked their overflowing goblets of the most expensive wine. All eyes were fixed on the large entrance door, which creaked as it was moved again. By instinct, Rhaegar followed the crowd's gaze and later, when he recalled the moment, he would not regret his decision.
A couple closely accompanied by three children entered the room. The man was tall, with copper skin and short dark hair, with a beard and wore an ice blue doublet. He carried the youngest child with him, a small girl who didn't look two years old anymore and certainly couldn't keep up with the adults. On the left side was another child, a boy just over five years old, with short hair and blue clothes, just like his father and next to the boy was another girl, with closed features, a little taller. And on the right side was the woman who was assumed to be the man's wife.
At that moment Rhaegar's heart skipped a few beats, his heart accelerated, the butterflies in his stomach appeared as quickly as lightning that left him breathless, an electric current running through his body until it reached his clouded and restless mind. If before he found Lady Lyanna adorable, now her appearance paled in comparison to the unknown woman's elegance and beauty. Their still hazy path takes another path, the long platinum hair that shone silver under the candlelight and the purple eyes like amethysts, of the woman and the children.
Was this a Joke? How was it possible? Rhaegar could not recall any woman with Valerian features in any house great or small in the seven kingdoms. If he knew, she would certainly be his wife right now. This thought darkened his features, due to the incompetence of others Rhaegar did not have the woman of his dreams, much less his three children as the prophecy said. His eyes fixed on the boy... Rhaegar didn't have the promised prince....
As the night wore on, the Targaryen prince's eyes never left the unknown woman's warm figure, every smile, every graceful dance, every sway of her platinum curls, even the quick glimpse of her stockinged legs. Everything was caught in the Targaryen's hungry, shameless eyes, the hunger that grew in her strange squirming with every little interaction she had with her husband or children. Every smile that was never directed at him was a punch to his face and a kick to his gut.
That Wasn't Right, Why Was This Happening? It was his destiny, those should be his children and his wife. Were the gods testing him? How could they be so cruel?
He approached without delay the moment you were left alone by your husband, the youngest daughter firmly holding the skirt of your light blue dress. Rhaegar put the best smile he had on his face before greeting, cornering the woman, who he now knew the identity of, to talk more personal, more gentle, more compromising. He simply couldn't contain himself, a dissatisfied tingling spread through his hands with every minute that passed without touching the softness of his face, a touch that could be interpreted as inappropriate but felt absolutely right in the prince's mind.
Rhaegar nodded calmly with a slight smile at each word you said, unable to contain himself any longer, his hand gently placed one of the platinum strands of your hair behind your ear, his fingertips trailing gently down the side of your slender neck. Restraining himself from saying anything or moving forward with his movements. Ignoring the way you winced and tried to politely walk away.
Why were you shy? Soon you would be married. It was destiny and nothing mattered beyond that. You would follow your duty.

A month has passed since a strange cult took you within its ranks. It wasn't necessarily by choice but it was something you needed to do in order to survive. Your entire village had been destroyed in a sudden onslaught of ferocious demons, massacring all of your friends and family.
You were left with nothing.
For days you had roamed the mountains and with a heavy heart had accepted the fact that you were going to die, be it from starvation, dehydration or some stray demon devouring you from head to toe.
Lord Douma had other things in store for you.
He was a strange one, the man who rescued you. He was oddly easy to amuse and absolutely everything you did was incredibly entertaining to him. One of his favorite past times were when he would simply stare at you as you talk about your life and perform everyday, mundane duties. At first you thought nothing of it - he saved your life, the least you could do was indulge him just a little bit.
Red flags started to show up soon though - the way he would move and carry himself, it simply was not natural. Whenever there was a meal, Douma would not even look at the food or even have a sip of water. You chalked it up to him having his own private meals and decided to think nothing of it.
You had managed to settle within a comfortable routine which just so happened to often cross paths with the great Lord himself. He seemed to greatly enjoy your presence and would have you with him from the moment the sun had risen until wee hours in the morning.
How was he never tired?
Suspicion slowly turned to fear as you noticed that some members of the cult were missing. No one knew what came of them or where they were last seen, as if some foul creature had spirited them away.
You brought up your concerns with Lord Douma but he just called you silly and told you not to worry about it. "Nothing bad will happen to you!" he'd say reassuringly but his words gave you shallow comfort.
Douma, for whatever reason, was also quite fond of physical touch and you were his favorite when it came to that. He was absolutely shameless and would explore your body however he saw fit. Amongst those odd trysts, you noticed that a powerful metallic smell would cling onto him and would never go away no matter how hard you washed his clothing.
No amount of praying could prepare you for the horror you'd encounter on one moonless evening.
You had woken up due to a strange noise and, against your better judgment, decided to investigate. With nothing but a single candle in your hand and a long but thin nightshirt covering your body, you ventured downwards the dark and creepy hallways. It felt as though the shadows themselves were out to get you because you'd flinch at every single sound no matter how miniscule. The closer you got to Lord Douma's chambers the stranger the noises got - giggling, slurping and crunching could be heard as a horrible stench filled the air, a smell so vile that it made you want to throw up your dinner. You'd often ask him what he liked to eat but naturally, Douma would just dodge your question or say something really silly. "It's easier if I eat alone!" he'd say as he caressed your hair. With each step you took the stench became stronger and stronger and Douma's words continued to ring inside your head like bells.
"You see, I'm a bit of a night owl! It's also not smart to come to my chambers without knocking first!~"
You should have listened to him and his thinly disguised warning.
Through the tiniest of cracks you saw Douma on the floor, covered in fresh blood. A wicked grin danced across his lips as he toyed with the severed limbs with the mauled corpse of a young woman, her eyes stricken with fear even in death.
It took you every ounce and willpower to not scream bloody murder.
With the way he was treating the corpse you'd think that Lord Douma was but a child with a precious toy. His light tone and playful gestures sent chills down your spine as you covered your mouth with your hand, a desperate attempt to conceal any potential noises that may escape you. You watched him for a few moments as you let it all sink in, not even realizing just how much your entire being trembled with fear. Just before you could make a break for it you heard Douma speak.
"I know you're there, watching me. I don't know who you are but I can smell you!"
Crap.
Dropping the candle to the floor you could do nothing but freeze as Douma continued to speak, total indifference lacing his voice.
"I would leave, if I were you. I am in a good mood tonight and shall play stupid so I won't turn around to see your face! Now, be a good little disciple and go back to bed!"
Squeaking like a helpless puppy, you ran away with your tail behind your legs, not realizing that Douma knew damn well that it was you. The demon could sense your presence across a giant mountain if need be and your sweet smell would invade his senses every time he would think about you. It was a shame that you saw him in such a state but he really did not want to kill you. He was content with playing dumb and hoped that it would be the same case for you as well.
As long as you kept your lips sealed, everything was going to be alright.

Mark Cote Info Reveal- Silvermist's Quest
(Long Post Warning)
Me and a few friends are doing our own searches for information on the elusive Tinker Bell draft. We were able to secure an interview with Mark Cote, who was on the film for both a 2d and 3d version. Unfortunately, we were not able to save many recordings in good quality and mine has no audio. I also failed to transcribe our meeting, but hopefully this will not be our only meeting.
Before the original movie was put into 3D, it had several character quests all linked to the narrative to save Neverland. I thought it would be like Disneytoon's failed Enchanted Tales series, but unlike Enchanted Tales or Cinderella 2 the segments wouldn't be so self contained. It was like the movie Fantasia, but connected through a larger plot. There would also be a ticking time bomb in the form of the worlds of the mainland and Neverland combining due to the theft of pixie dust by Tinker Bell and friends before they earned it messing up the natural order. He told us that all 5 character quests would have to be approved by management, so he experienced delays in production. Several quests were greenlit but they had a hard time when they got to Silvermist and Iridessa.
We asked in a riddle, what brings water life? It took a while to get an answer, but @princessquinnella was reminded of water fairies in the books. The thing is though, Silvermist was conceived pretty differently from Rani. Despite being a water fairy, she was a repressive and pragmatic character. If you had a Disney Fairies DVD that came with the toys, you might remember the line "Still waters run deep" in reference to Silvermist. The pond and lotus where she lived, is implied to be "Stillwater Springs" or Lilypad Pond from what we know. x Here is the description from the illusive "pitch book"
Firstly, Mark told us for this "epic story" Silvermist's quest would be next to last. None of the fairies can fly because of the magic has dissipated. The story starts in her home of Stillwater Springs/Lilypad Pond, she creates a magical cloud named Tempest to fly. Tempest is an opposite to SIlvermist, he's a joyful and free spirited cloud like a impish child. Like in the final cut, there are 4 seasonal areas? There would be 5 themed areas in Pixie Hollow where each fairy lived. Many inanimate things live here in this word inspired by Art Nouveau.
She needs to fly on Tempest to reach the "water of life", and she travels to Pixie Hollow in a harsh desert area. She has a small glass vile to collect the "water of life" and flies over the stretch of desert looking everywhere. There's a color script of this segment somewhere on AODF (dont know where to link), where it is blurry and you can see the desert.
Silvermist and Tempest even meet other clouds on their journey, but they are grumpy and stern adult clouds.
youtube
Here, on the color guide- we see things a bit different. There seems to be some sort of snowdrop-esque flower in place of Tempest- but also some clouds, so I'm not sure what it could be.
Silvermist has been in the sky for a while now in this desert, but cannot find the water of life. Suddenly! Tempest, the child cloud starts to die. Silvermist is scared, because her friend is dying and she hasn't found the water of life. She sits down defeated... and starts to cry.
He showed us a piece I am very familiar with:
It is then, when she is at her lowest- when she cries... Tempest is resurected, and she is able to save her friend and collect the Water of Life, the quest item she needs to save Pixie Hollow.
Lastly, I should say the desert like areas in Pixie Hollow remind me of the elusive art from the mysterious artbook "The Art of Judith Holmes Clarke" (excuse quality, its a short frame in an IG video)
Now it's time for the next quest to reveal information about, there should be 2 left with more info to share with you...
This one shall be fill in the blank:
"------ is the key that opens every door."
Fly with you later!

DUEL VS. DUEL: Yubel and Judai vs Ai and Playmaker
If you haven't noticed YGO! often recycles different characters and plot ideas throughout its various spinoffs. There's usually a rival whose ace monster is a dragon, a best friend character to support the main character, there's almost always a guy like Bakura who has several things wrong with him. This isn't a criticism, I actually love the way that each spinoff builds off of all the other series while also remaining its own thing. There's a lot of meaning you can decipher from analyzing the intentional callbacks the authors put in to previous series so that's what we're going to do today.
Both GX and Vrains feature a third season where the protagonist's partner character becomes the main antagonist for the entire season, and manages to pick off the protagonist's friends one by one until they're all alone with the protag for the final duel. Both of these characters, Yubel and Ai aren't motivated by hate but rather a twisted form of love and the parallels between these two duels don't stop there.
Yubel and Yusaku: Love vs. Ai
The partner character appears in almost every YGO! series with the exception of 5DS and Sevens. It began with Yami Yugi, a second personality created inside Yugi who played took over and played games in Yugi's place and cursed everyone who offended him only to eventually build a partnership with Yugi that lasted for most of the series until Atem reclaimed his name and memories and became his own person again.
These partner characters usually assist in duels, and are either another personality existing inside the protagonist, or if they're external like Astral or Ai they still share a special link with the protagonist.
Yubel and Ai are unique because they are both partner characters who turn into major antagonists. They don't just share the role of antagonists there's also several similarities between the two of them, from motivation, their connection to the protagonist, and both characters being built around the concept of love. This is probably intentional because the scenario writer for all of Vrains also worked on large parts of GX and was the main scenario writer for Season 4.
To introduce both characters, Yubel is a Duel Spirit. They were originally a human child named Yubel who was the closest friend of the boy who would eventually grow up to be the Supreme King and reincarnate in the modern day as Judai Yuki. Yubel gave up their humanity and in a painful surgery became a hideous dragon with an impenetrable body in order to protect Judai.
Afterwards the boy who would eventually become the Supreme King swore eternal love to Yubel. Yubel's devotion followed Judai into the next life, where because Yubel gave up their humanity they reincarnated as a card spirit instead that only Judai could see. They used their considerable power to protect Judai from anyone they considered a threat, including other neighborhood kids who beat him in card games. Judai as a result became completely isolated. Which Yubel didn't mind because Judai was their entire world and they believed they should have been enough for Judai.
Judai decided to send Yubel's card away into space in the hopes that the space rays would calm Yubel's troubled soul, but instead Yubel became corrupted by a cosmic force known as THE LIGHT OF DESTRUCTION. Yubel endured ten years of torture and agony all along. At first they called out to Judai in his dreams, but his parents eventually forced Judai to go through a procedure that made him forget all memories of Yubel.
Alone and forgotten Yubel crashes down to earth and is torn to pieces. As an arm they parasitize several people until they gain enough power to reconstitute their body, and then dragon Judai and all his friends into another dimmension all as a part of their grand scheme to finally reunite with Judai and awaken his memories of the Supreme King.
Even though they were hurt by Judai, Yubel isn't motivated by revenge, but by love and a desire to be together with Judai and secure all of Judai's love for themselves. Yubel's twisted definition of love was formed when after crying for help one final time, they snapped and told themselves a lie in order to keep going. That ignoring Yubel, making them suffer, leaving them all alone it was just the way that Judai expressed his love. Yubel then becomes dedicated to showing that love in return and effectively dragging Judai down to their level.
Yubel: I was suffering as you came to forget about me… Yubel: It burns… It hurts…It’s killing me. But why? I love him so much. Why is Judai treating me like this? Yubel: And then it hit me. This is just a form of Judai’s love. Judai is hurting me and making me suffer because of his love for me. But you see, I couldn’t possibly forget about you in the time i’ve suffered. Yubel: So when I solved the riddle that you posed to me, I was delighted. And that fueled my decision. I would try to fill the entire twelve dimmensions with my love for you. Yubel: And once I did you would have to recognize my love for you, wouldn’t you?
Ai is also a character that's connected to Yusaku's childhood. Ai is an ignis, and artificial intelligence that was created by basically torturing six children by forcing them to duel over and over again and then scanning their brains and modeling six different AI off of the data.
The shadow ignis or AI quite literally came from Yusaku's brain, even though they don't meet until much later on in life. From the onset there's a lot of differences between Ai and Yubel's role as partners. Ai is Yusaku's partner for most of the series, and is effectively introduced as a stranger and has to build a bond fo trust with Yusaku over the first two seasons.
Whereas Yubel was Judai's best friend and favorite monster in childhood, but Judai has forgotten about Yubel in the first two seasons and when Yubel finally does appear again it's as an enemy. The bond between Yusaku and Ai forms and then falls apart, whereas both Yubel and Judai start out with their bond completely broken and over the course of season three they reunite and come back together.
Ai is motivated by first his own survival, and second the survival of all the other ignis who are currently being hunted by several human corporations, a group of hackers known as the knights of Hanoi, and one Ignis themselves known as Lightning who turned traitor to the other Ignis. Yusaki and Ai's shared goal is to find a way for the Ignis and Humans to co-exist without one of them trying to pre-emptively wipe out the other because of the danger both of them pose to each other.
Over the course of the story though, as one by one Ai loses his friends in the fellow Ignis who either die or are absorbed, he comes to obsess over Yusaku as his one remaining friend. Yubel and Judai's feelings for one another are a holdover from a previous lifetime they become estranged and reunite again, whereas Ai comes to love and obsess over Yusaku similiarly to Yubel does and it's precisely because of those obsessive and overprotective feelings he decides to terminate their relationship permanently.
Ai enacts a plan similiar to Yubel's to destroy Yusaku's friends one by one all while threatening the entire world. Yubel sought to fuse the dimmensions together, while AI wants to start the inevitable fight between the Ignis and Humanity on his terms.
While their role in the story and characters are similar, they're also contrasting opposites in many ways. Yubel started out as a human and gave up their humanity to become a duel spirit. Ai started out as an artificial intelligence, he thinks as an artificial intelligence who has trouble understanding humans, and while he becomes more humanlike all the time he's eventually hampered by his inability to think like a human. Yubel is also much older than Ai having lived two lifetimes with memories of both, whereas Ai is essentially a child, a fledgling sentient being who still doesn't understand many things about the world.
Their different levels of maturity really show in their understanding of the world around them, or rather Ai's naivete and lack of understanding. Both characters are built around the concept of love, with love for the protagonist as their main motivation but Yubel while twisted demonstrates a deep understanding of love.
Yubel is able to see inside the hearts of people and uses their intimate knowledge of their inner darkness in order to twist people according to their own desires. Yubel's actually a deeply empathic character able to understand people's feelings sometimes better than they understand themselves, they just use that empathic understanding for evil.
While their understanding of love sounds insane at times they're also able to make deep observations about not only people's relationships to each other but the darker nature of love. As much as we shy away from the idea of hurting the ones we love on purpose, there's a seed of truth in the fact that whether intentionally or unintentionally being close to someone means you will hurt them. That pain is a natural part of love. She's also able to suss out the unhealthy love and devotion shared between Amon and Echo quickly.
Yubel: I get it now… You weren’t in love with Echo. Yubel: No. You may have loved her just enough to clear the conditions in place for you to control Exodia. Yubel: But then, you didn’t truly love each other. Yubel: You were only unfairly hurting her, while you would stay unharmed. Yubel: You wouldn’t suffer. You wouldn’t be in pain.
Yubel also ultimately seeks a love between equals. As much as they frame themselves as Judai's protector, what they want is for Judai to be dragged down to their level so Judai will finally understand them.
Their entire plan revolved around isolating Judai until Judai understood the pain of suffering ten years alone in space that Yubel went through. When Judai snaps and becomes the Supreme King taking a similiar dark turn to Yubel, Yubel turns out to be right in the end. By the time they've reunited both Judai and Yubel have done terrible things and hurt the people they loved.
Yubel: So when I solved the riddle that you posed to me, I was delighted. And that fueled my decision. I would try to fill the entire twelve dimmensions with my love for you. Yubel: And once I did you would have to recognize my love for you, wouldn’t you? Yubel: That is why I sought to fill all those linked to you - your world - with both sadness and anguish. Yubel: ANd my line of thinking wasn’t wrong. Yubel: I mean you are right before my eyes, Judai.
Yubel operates on a principle of empathy and understanding through shared suffering. Whereas, I would argue while Ai cares about Yusaku they are not particularly empathic nor do they understand Yusaku. This is because Ai is practically a newborn existence naive to the world, and also as a computer with a computer brain fundamentally thinks differently.
However, I'd also argue that Ai also doesn't really want to try to change their thinking to bridge the gap between humans an AI. In despair they've completely given up on trying to understand humans. They also on some level don't want to change, because they arrogantly assume they know what's best for both them and Yusaku.
Ai has given into despair from losing their loved ones and suffering isolation just like Yubel, but I think a key difference is that everything Yubel does no matter how twisted is a desperate attempt to reunite with Judai, to understand Judai and be understood by them. Whereas, Ai doesn't want to try anymore.
Ai: Back then I would have done anything to save my friends. Yusaku: There's nothing you could have done there was no other way. AI: I know that. [...] Yusaku: Ai, you have the power to change this. Yusaku: As a special ignis you have the power to live with humans. Find a way to backtrack from this. AI: You trying to pull me back? AI: Thank you Playmaker, but you don't understand. I learned when everyone was gone that when you lose friends your heart breaks. AI: My heart was broken back then and I lost all self control. Yusaku: If losing a friend makes your heart break then are you trying to break my heart?
Not only does Ai not want to understand, but they also deliberately ignore Yusaku's feelings and personal autonomy. Yusaku is a kidnapped child who had a lot of their life robbed from them and manipulated they hate anyone who disrespects their free will but Ai walks all over it and disregards all of Yusaku's opinions. They do the one thing Yusaku asks them not to do, because Ai incorrectly assumes they know best.
They also don't really understand Yusaku on a fundamental level and as I said, they don't want to make the effort to bridge the gap either.
It seems kind of silly saying which one is worse, because both Yubel and Ai violate Judai and Yusaku's personal autonomy multiple times. They both act selfish and entitled towards the person they love. They both also intentionally hurt that person and then turn back around and claim it's protecting them. They both act incredibly possessive and try to manipulate their partner into doing what they want.
They both have the gall afterwards to claim they're doing so out of selfless devotion, downplaying any feelings of selfishness on their end. Both consider Yusaku and Judai's other friends to be targets in order to get at their partners. Both will inflict pain on the person they love and are so devoted to in service of getting what they want.
The only real difference is motivation because as I said, as controlling as Yubel is it's out of a desire to reunite and be equals. They're both in too much pain to express their love in any kind of healthy way, but Yubel at least wants things to be better whereas Ai has just given up. The fact that Yubel's themed around sharing pain too also makes them and Judai equals, whereas Ai is trying to have power over Yusaku and take Yusaku's decisions away in order to force Yusaku to do what he assumes is best.
That might be the most important difference between them. Whereas Yubel wanted to live together with Judai, Ai wanted to force Yusaku to kill him in order to avert a potential future where Yusaku dies trying to protect Ai. It's a motivation that turns one story into a love story, and the other into a tragedy.
Judai and Yusaku: Hero vs Anti-Hero
Judai and Yusaku are two characters who could not look to be any more different at first glance. Though they're both themed around heroism Judai starts as the fun loving kid who admires heroes and is always dueling to save others when his friends are in a fix. Yusaku is the loner anti-hero who is on a revenge quest all alone against the Knights of Hanoi.
Yusaku starts out unwilling to make friends and refusing help from others. Judai on the other hand is constantly surrounded by people. Though both of them are forced into the role of always dueling to protect others and carrying the responsibilies of other people on their shoulder. Often times it's forced upon them unwillingly and they have to take on too much responsibility.
Judai forms unhealthy relationships with people that are based on him always needing to clean up their messes and those same friendships eventually unravel. Whereas Yusaku spends three seasons learning to form healthier relationships with people, and the climax of the first season is even Yusaku developing from dueling for revenge to dueling to save his very first friend in Kogami.
Judai loves dueling and even duels exclusively for the fun of it, often in the first two seasons protecting others and facing the villains as an afterthought. Yusaku on the other hand hates dueling because of the trauma he was forced to undergo as a child and despite being the strongest duelist simply views dueling as a means to an end.
Perhaps the most interesting way to compare them is their opposite journeys. They're both commentaries on heroism. They both eventually gain alter egos that are really just emphasizing different traits of their personalities. The Supreme King is the embodiment of Judai's selfishness and his fixation on always winning and dueling for power. Yusaku is a socially withdrawn kid, and Playmaker his internet identity is the way he fights back against his abusers. He's also a strong willed, determined and active where Yusaku is almost entierly passive. They're both ultimately the same guy though, Supreme King is a part of Judai, Playmaker is Yusaku with more freedom to be himself online.
However, Judai starts out as a straightforward hero and goes on to be a dark deconstruction of the pure hearted hero. All of Judai's flaws that go unaddressed because people constantly put him on a pedestal eventually lead to his ruin. The pressure Judai is always under to win turns into an obsession with power.
Judai: Why? What did I do that was so wrong? I… I did the right thing! And yet… everyone keeps leaving me! What… What is wrong with me? Supreme King: Yuki Judai. To be willing to be evil to defeat evil. This world exemplfiies survival of the fittest. It must be ruled with power. Judai: Power? I don’t have that much power… Supreme King: You hold the Super Polymerization card in your hand. Defeat the spirits that stand against you. Breathe their lives into it and complete that card.
Judai also exists in a narrative that won't allow him to be a hero. GX deconstructs all kinds of heroism and self-sacrifice. Edo Phoenix's quest for revenge is called out as him being childish, and unwilling to grow up from the trauma he suffered as a child. Johan is the most straightforward hero, but his decision to sacrifice himself to protect Judai and everyone else is what starts Judai's breakdown. When Jim duels against the supreme king he declares he's not sacrificing him to save the world but rather trying to help a friend.
Judai's eventual character growth in choosing to fuse with Yubel isn't a sacrifice, but rather Judai finally growing up and taking responsibility for the way he hurt Yubel.
Yusaku on the other hand is on the journey from going from an anti-hero who fights for himself and his own personal revenge to becoming a more straightforward hero. I wouldn't say Yusaku's arc is more shallow in comparison just because it's not a dark deconstruction, rather it's exploring a different topic the responsibilities of being a hero.
His greatest moment of character growth in the first season is going from caring only about revenge, to dueling the pesron who saved him as a child because he wants to save his very first friend.
You could say Yusaku because he's not allowed to crumble is actually under more pressure than Judai is. He's almost forced into the role of a hero and not allowed to be selfish, while Judai from start to finish is a selfish character even if he grows up quite a bit over the course of the story.
Yusaku is also someone who from start to finish follows his own sense of unbending justice. Where, Judai doesn't have any consistent moral code. He's defined in the first two seasons of only dueling for the fun of it, and by Season 3 he's deeply troubled that he doesn't have a reason to duel like Johan does.
Following his own justice is actually deeply important to Yusaku, probably what he values the most actually. Since his life was thrown off by the Lost Incident he starts out deeply untrusting of others and even when he grows past that he hates people who try to influence him and insist they know what's best for him. It's what led him to not only be deeply offended by Zaizen telling Yusaku to back down and let him handle it, but also him refusing Zaizen's help.
This quality of Yusaku's also dovetails into my next point where we finally get to comparing the two duels.
A LOVE STORY vs. A TRAGEDY
The setup for the duel is identical in both cases. Yubel and Ai have eliminated almost all of Judai and Yusaku's friends and now they are on the endgame of their plans. Yusaku and Judai are both dueling against their former partners to stop them, and both partners refuse any attempts to work things out any other way and force a fight.
However, the motivations of each member going into these duels are so opposite that it makes a neat little foiling square.
Starting with Yubel their motivation for getting into the duel is simultaneously a desire to reunite and express their love for Judai, and a thinly veiled cry for help.
Judai: If you hated how I treated you, then you should have gotten revenge on me. Yubel: Hate? Revenge? What are you talking about? Didn't I tell you? I went to this trouble hoping it would make you happy, Judai. Judai: Make me happy? After my friends suffered by getting hurt and killed. Yubel: But that's love isn't it? Yubel: I wanted to torment you to share the depths of my love.
Yubel's plan is to both awaken Judai's memories of the supreme king by engineering his downfall, and also after taking his friends away one by one to fuse the dimmensions together so Judai and Yubel can be together forever with Yubel by his side protecting him. As Yubel defines their entire existence and worth by being Judai's protector and doesn't understand why Judai would ever reject their protection or need friends other than them.
Yubel: My every waking moment was for you. Yubel: I even got rid of everyone around you who tried to make you cry. Judai: Yubel. By doing that you hurt the friends I had around me. Judai: None of my close firends even wanted to duel with me. Yubel: You had me as a close friend, didn't you? All you had to do was focus only on me.
Yubel frames their actions as selfless while also acting out an entitlement that they're owed Judai's love for all of their devotion to him. They're also willing to hurt his closest friends, isolate him, and basically throw tantrums in order to get it.
When they come to the slow realization that Judai won't return their feelings, it leads to them breaking down slowly over the course of the duel. All of the lies they told themselves about the love between them and Judai slowly starts to unravel along with their mind.
The duel beings with Yubel actively enjoying all the pain Judai is inflicting upon them. When Judai activates the supreme king though, and starts dueling seriously to eliminate Yubel, it chips through Yubel's delusions and Yubel is no longer able to keep pretending that pain is love.
I couldn’t have lived with the heartache unless I felt that I was being loved…
Moving on to Ai, the primary difference between Yubel and Ai's motivation is that Yubel's plans are a thinly veiled cry for help while Ai refuses to accept any help.
Yusaku: Find a way to backtrack, Ai! Ai: I can't. Ai: Sorry, but there's no backtracking. Ai: Let's go, Playmaker!
Their desires are opposite too. Yubel's plan is to continue living with Judai, and Ai's plan amounts to forcing Yusaku to kill them.
Ai: If this attack gets through I lose. AI: Well, make up your mind already. AI: You came to get them back, right? AI: You're everyone's hope so you have to do it, even if I'm the opponent.
Yubel and Ai are both incredibly manipulative characters, and Ai in particular is holding all of Yusaku's friends hostage in order to make him do something he does not want to do and will hurt him beyond repair. He's also inflicting the same trauma the loss of all of his friends and the loss of an important friend the same way that Yubel wishes to make Judai suffer the same way they did by isolating them from all of their friends and pushing them off the edge to bring out their darkest emotions.
However, once again Yubel's manipulations are done with the intent of getting Judai to understand them whereas Ai no longer wants to try understanding Yusaku and presumes he knows best.
Ai: Back then I had to do whatever it takes to save my friends. Yusaku: There's nothing you could have done to save them. Ai: I know there wasn't. Yusaku: Ai, that simulation was lightning's trap. He knew if you saw it while in despair your heart would fall into darkness. So don't worry about it. Ai: I considered that possibility. Because he left it after he fought us. AI: So I redid my own simulation and ran it over and over. But the result wouldn't change.
Ai also chooses to trust simulations and the words of his enemy Lightning over the words of his own partner and the urging of Yusaku that they can try to take a third way out together. His basic inability to trust is what damns him, relying on controlling manipulation instead to coerce and eventually force Yusaku to do what he wants and what he has decided is best.
It shows in his plan to, Ai's conditions for the duel is that he'll either copy himself and spread the copies into all of the mass manufactured robots or Yusaku will have to stop him with his own hands at which point Ai's programming is terminated. Either way Ai dies. The only real way for Yusaku to save Ai is to convince him to stop the duel which Ai won't do.
Ai: Oh I didn't tell you. When my copies are created, as the final trigger my free will will be divided and given to them. Yusaku: What will happen to you? AI: My free will will be broken apart. AI: I'll be no more. If you win you'll retrieve everything I took and I'll be no more. Either way, I'll be no more. Yusaku: Ai, you're making me choose how you die?
He's stripped away all of Yusaku's choices. Yubel is stripping away Judai's choices to but once again it's out of a desire to be together with Judai while Ai is doing the opposite forcing Yusaku to be an enemy and end him with his own two hands.
Moving onto the process of the duel itself, the duel begins with both Yusaku and Judai trying to talk their partners down from dueling and finding some other way to settle this.
They fail but for opposite reasons. Judai because his pleas with Yubel are half hearted and done more in the spirit of lip-service. Judai fails because Yubel sees through his half hearted attempts. In their previous duel Yubel calls out the fact that Judai went to the ends of the earth to save Johan, but after subjecting Yubel to years of torture barely lifted a finger to reach out to them.
While Yusaku genuinely shows a desire to solve things with Ai with anything other than dueling, but Ai is the reason they have to fight. Ai is the one who forces Yusaku's hand. While Judai does not understand Yubel and does not empathize, Ai is the one who fails to understand Yusaku and how much pain forcing this conflict on him causes Yusaku. He also doesn't want to understand, while Yubel is at least self-aware of the fact that they are intentionally hurting Judai.
Yusaku's sincerity can be seen in how much he refuses to victim blame Ai, starting right away and continuing through the duel. Repeatedly over and over again Yusaku tries to reassure Ai that the guilt he's experiencing isn't his fault. Whereas, Judai victim blames Yubel continually. Yusaku is a character who values responsibility above all else, while Judai is avoiding personal responsibiltiy even though they're the ones who put Yubel in a situation where they were tortured.
Ai: As you know I got rid of my friends and ended up alone. There were only six of us but we foolishly hated each other. Yusaku: AI that's not your fault. AI: I know but it doesn't matter who's fault it is. I'm earth's last surviving human. And that fact won't change. Playmaker I sort of understand how you felt. Being alone is very painful. Yusaku: [...] I understand your sadness but don't let this fate sweep you away.
Whereas, Judai quickly resorts to victim blaming Yubel pretty quickly.
I made a lot of friends… And they all taught me something… real love is wide enough, large enough and deep enough to fill the universe. Your so-called love is only a conceited delusion.
There's also a distinct difference in both Yusaku and Judai's behavior throughout the duel. Most of the time it's Yubel iniating conversation with Judai because as I said by the time their second duel has started Judai has given up on understanding Yubel and dismisses them as crazy and beyond comprehension. Whereas Yusaku is the one who initiates most of the conversation with Ai.
Moving onto the duel part of duel it's interesting to note how different Yubel and Ai's dueling styles are. Yubel dominates almost any duel they're in. They toy with the likes of Ryo and Amon. Even when Judai duels them to a draw, the duel went exactly as Yubel planned because their true objective was to snatch away super polymerization from Judai's graveyard.
Yubel's boss monster is also unbeatable. It never takes damage, in fact most of the cards in Yubel's various decks don't take damage. Their ace monster for the sacred beast deck is a card that inflicts 10,000 damage once a turn. Advanced Darkness crystal beasts allows them to negate all damage done by sending a card to the graveyard. Even when judai manages to get Yubel off the field it simply upgrades into a stronger form.
Ai on the other hand duels on the ropes and duels very defensively, Yusaku at several points is about to go for game and end the duel in one hit and Ai only manages to barely avoid ending the duel early with a trap card or the like.
Yubel's main strategy is to prolong the duel until Judai is forced to pick Super Polymerization with spell chronicle. They want Judai to choose them and choose staying together with them by spell chronicle. Whereas at multiple points Ai continues to encourage Yusaku to crush them with everything they have.
Once again, one wants empathy, the other disregards Yusaku's will.
Yubel: My suffering becomes your suffering. Yubel: Such empathy... Yubel: Nightmare pain. It has us wrapped in the same anguish, and the same love.
Ai is forcing Yusaku's hand because once again, no matter the result Yusaku kills Ai. On the other hand, Yubel grows increasingly disturbed by Judai's lack of mercy.
Yubel: Oh my, you shouldn't be so heartless my dear judai. Judai: We can't protect what matters to us just by being kind. I'm prepared to fight for the friends I love to the end even if it becomes becoming a demon or the devil.
Judai also quickly abandons heroism for the power of the supreme king, whereas Ai practically forces Yusaku to choose being a hero and saving his friends. Judai prioritizes Johan and then the rest of his friends over Yubel, Yusaku doesn't want to choose and a horrible choice is forced upon him.
Yubel for their part is aware of Judai's hypocrisy, once again they demonstrate a deep understanding of Judai. Whereas, Ai doesn't understand Yusaku one bit, while at the same time claiming to know better.
AI: When it comes to memory and calculations we're far superior to humans. We can figure out humans' faults and contradictions. AI: That's why it's easy to become arrogant. With Ai's with free will it's in their nature. AI: Something awakened within me. They're not evil thoughts. But I wonder, in order for me to live why do I have to adapt to humans. AI: I feel differently from humans.
Ai continually urges Yusaku to choose his friends over him. He forces the choice where there should be done. On the other hand Yubel wants to be chosen over Judai's friends. Out of a sense of entitlement but also a fear of being abandoned again.
Yubel: The camraderie of yours with the neo-spacians will be of no use to you. And my love alone is much stronger. Yet even so you're saying that you'll choose friendships with the neo-spacians over my love. [...] Yubel: Judai so you want to drive me away at any cost. Do you and the neo-spacians find my love to be such a hindrance.
Once again, Ai remarks frequently that the loss of their friends made them give up all hope on continuing. Yubel on the other hand is capable of enduring almost anything. They're defined by their endurance and determination to hold on. When they burn up on re-entry they slowly piece themselves back together. When they're disintegrated after Johan's sacrifice, they take Johan's body and then slowly restore themselves once more. Judai duels them to a draw, that's yubel's plan all along and they take super poly. Judai destroys their boss monster, they just summon another one.
Ai on the other hand fundamentally believes free will in Ai's will lead to conflict and that future is inescapable, so they force Yusaku's hand in ending their existence.
AI: You said humans don't want sudden changes. AI: But I can't help my own changes. I may become someone like Bohman or Lightning so I want to vanish before that happens.
Ai has already reached their breaking point, whereas Yubel is slowly driven to their breaking point by Judai's lack of empathy throughout the duel. Yubel similiarly becomes suicidal like AI, but only after Judai continually insists that they're only dueling to destroy Yubel. Once again, while Ai's plan is to self-terminate for Yusaku's "sake" choosing to die while Judai lives on without them is something Yubel would never do.
At least, they might take a bullet for Judai, but they don't want to be alone and abandoned while Judai goes back to live on happily with all his other friends. Yubel wants to be chosen, Ai wants Yusaku to choose his friends. In fact, it's the idea that Yusaku wouldn't abandon him even if the war against Ai and Humans did happen that drives Ai's decision to die rather than let that happen.
AI: When I lived in the simulation I saw it. What my existence will lead to. You get dragged into it and perish. I can't choose that future.
Once again though, it's a decision Ai makes out of an inability to trust Yusaku. Also, if Yusaku wants to stay by Ai's side in spite of the danger it poses to him, that's Yusaku's choice. Ai may perceive himself as protecting Yusaku, but he's also disrespecting his autonomy.
It's also driven by a lack of understanding of what love and trust are. That's not entirely Ai's fault, he is in fact a newborn who recently lost every single one of his friends due to the conflict between humans and AI. It makes sense he'd have trouble trusting humans even the one that's been by his side all this time.
Whereas, Yubel wants Judai's understanding and breaks down when Judai continually denies it to them.
Yubel: Do you hate me that much? Yubel: I thought of this twelve-dimmension universe as a space for us together... so I tried to fill the universe with my love. But if you're calling on your friends and going to such lengths to get rid of me I no longer need to fill this universe with love. No, I no longer need this world. Let me put an end to this universe, to the void as well, and to our time together. Yubel: It was fun Judai, even those who helped lure you to me had dark, dark hearts. I feasted upon their hearts and waited for the reunion with you, my beloved. Yubel: I even invited you to that first dimmension. Well, I enjoyed that duel as well. Until he interfered. But I suppose you just weren't ready to accept my love back then. Yubel: I mean, the darkness in your heart, the supreme king was lying dormant. Yubel: Though I did have your friends help me. Which pulled out the darkness in your heart and ushered you this far. Yubel: I didn't think you were so hardheaded. You're the one at fault. If you can't grasp my love I don't need you. Or this universe. You can all just vanish into dust.
Judai needs to accept responsibility for both what he did to Yubel, and his own actions for the supreme king and how both him and Yubel can be pushed to do terrible things when they're alone and in pain. Part of the motivation for Judai's demonization of Yubel is he wants to keep playing the hero because the guilt of everything he did as the supreme king is crushing him and making him borderline suicidal.
On the other hand Ai is the one who's given up on trying to understand others. Yusaku is doing the best he can to both balance his feelings for Ai and desire to save him against his responsibility to save his other friends but he can't really be held personally responsible for Ai's actions. Whereas Judai on some level is responsible for Yubel's actions since he created the situation in the first place and continually chooses to abandon Yubel instead of trying to reach out to them.
Yubel is right to an extent that this situation is his fault and he never made any attempts to save them. Whereas, Ai is being manipulative when he forces Yusaku to make the choice to kill him putting all the responsibility on Yusaku's shoulders.
Which is why when the duels end in completely opposite fashions. Judai's way of taking responsibility is to fuse together with Yubel, whereas Yusaku refuses to fuse with Ai.
In Yusaku's case the refusal to fuse isn't turning down Ai's proposed third option, or a peaceful solution to the duel. After all, if Ai called off the duel right there Yusaku would accept it and work to forgive Ai for what he did to his friends. Even if they continue on as individuals it's not like Yusaku would leave Ai's side. In fact his reason for refusing Ai's offer to fuse is that he wants them to remain together as two individuals.
Fusion means two entirely different things in this context. Judai acknowledges there's a risk he may no longer exist after fusing with Yubel but like, they keep going on as two seperate individuals and consciousnesses even when they share the same body. Whereas in Ai's case, fusing with Yusaku would destroy both of them and give birth to a completely new being. Ai is using fusion as yet another method of self destruction, because he doesn't want to change himself and doesn't believe in the capacity to change himself.
Yusaku: Even if we become one, that's not the solution you're seeking. We only have one life. One consciousness. Yusaku: If I fuse, I won't be me and you won't be you.
Ai makes his choice out of his inability to face the future. He wants to self terminate, either by distributing his free will among copies or fusing with Yusaku to become someone else because he doesn't trust in his ability to grow and change. In fact he's avoiding having to change and grow up.
Yusaku: So living is a series of bonds! That's what life is. AI: So I have to do that forever? Yusaku: Yes. AI: That's a lot of work. And you can't do that unless you're strong. Yusaku: That's why people become stronger. And that occasionally leads to conflicts. But even if that happens we have to keep fighting. Keep searching for bonds even if there's no solution. AI: I was thinking too logically like an AI. Yusaku: You can't rush living. AI: But I don't want to keep fighting if there's no solution. Since I've lost the desire to fight I'll just vanish.
You could say that Yusaku's unbending nature and his responsibity as a hero made it so he couldn't fuse with Ai or throw the duel but like, there's only so much Yusaku could have done. He didn't give up trying to convince Ai at any point and it's not fair to put Ai's refusal to give up on their suicide plan on Yusaku.
It's also Ai's decision to activate TA.I. that made them lose the duel, so in the end Ai did self terminate. Even in the Yuma vs. Shark duel where Yuma is a character who will never sacrifice anyone even if the whole world is at stake, and kept throwing the duel and prolonging it to try to convince Shark, Yuma was unable to reach him in time. In both cases it's also Shark's decision to go all out for a final attack, and Yuma's decision to negate his own attack and not attack in the hopes fo reaching Shark that loses Shark the duel.
On the other hand, Judai's decision to fuse is him finally taking responsibility. Ai gave up on trying to change the future and himself whereas Judai's decision to fuse is him growing up from a child to an adult.
I also want to state I don't want to victim blame Ai for being suicidal, and not having the strength to go on. Not everyone does in that kind of situation, it's perfectly human (even though he's a robot).
Ai's story is also meant to be a tragedy. In tragedies characters succumb to their flaws instead of overcoming them. GX and VRAINS' third season are two entirely different genres of story, one is a love story where two traumatized people finally reunite and heal and Vrains is a tragedy where Yusaku can't save Ai.
Even then Vrains doesn't state that Ai doesn't deserve salvation, even if he chose to refuse help and didn't want to be saved. Yusaku's very last actions in the series are diving into the net to search for some remnant of Ai and it's implied after months of searching he's not stopping anytime soon. Even if Ai gave up on himself, Yusaku hasn't given up on Ai.
That's another thing even if Yusaku refused fusion with Ai, he still would have stayed by Ai's side. Ai literally simulated a thousand futures and Yusaku in every one of them stayed by Ai's side even if it led to his death. Yusaku still wishes to be with Ai and searches the net for Ai in the end of Vrains. He calls Ai the best partner even when Ai's in the process of breaking his heart.
So while both of these duels have very different endings, I'd say they both still advocate for forgiveness and love. Both duels are true to the message of YGO! that bonds are the most important thing and what give our life meaning - which I think is beautiful. People cannot live on their own and make bad choices when they're alone, but in the end it's bonds that save us.
"If there's no absolutes then what's left?"
"Bonds. Bonds between individuals. Bonds between one another. That's all there is. That also changes with time. A huge trigger can cause a huge change. Bonds may be severed but new bonds can also be formed. So living is a series of bonds. That's what life is."
Also as a final note on this post I'd like to thank @talaofthevalley their takes on Yusaku are all great and talking about Vrains meta with them really helped writing a lot of this post.

Sejanus Plinth | Whispers
*•.¸♡Request: Heyy Could you write a Sejanus Plinth x reader? Maybe some angst/comfort?
*•.¸♡Prompts: "We didn't all have happy childhoods, so sorry that I can't cope." "My childhood wasn't happy just because it wasn't yours. Yeah, I was safe, but I was alone and I never had no one to turn to. There's more than one way to fuck up a kid." from @promptsforthestrugglingauthor (its changed slightly tho)
*•.¸♡Warnings: Angsty as shit, Sejanus may be slightly ooc, bastards? (i think the capitol would hate bastards), the word whore in like a prostitute way, slight pacing issues (its 2am, ill edit it again later)
*•.¸♡Paring: Sejanus Plinth x GN!reader
*•.¸♡Summary: When District meets Capitol, a kind boy like Sejanus is born. When Capitol meets District, a messed-up kid like you is born.
Or
Sejanus learns you care just as much as him
*•.¸♡Words: 1.1k
The academy's echoing halls bore witness to a chorus of whispers that followed Sejanus like persistent shadows. He was neither oblivious to these whispers, nor stupid enough to engage. The students, wrapped in their Capitol privilege, money, status and style, often vocalised their prejudiced perceptions, casting Sejanus as the outsider—a boy from the districts, like a stain in the polished corridors of the elite.
Each comment carried the sting of disdain, a reminder that, in their eyes, he should have remained tethered to District 2. The snide comments echoed in the hallowed halls, questioning his nobility, his eloquence, his attire, and even his intellect. To them, he was an anomaly challenging the Capitol's rigid social hierarchy. Yet, Sejanus pressed on, his spirit unyielding, his kind heart and sweet words charming any who had escaped the whispers.
There had always been whispers about your mother and her flimsy beliefs with the Capitol. She was no one important to the Capitol’s government, systems of education or even associated with the Hunger Games. People whispered about her visit to the district and the child she returned with. Her marriage to a businessman, another individual largely unnoticed by the Capitol's discerning eye, provided no shield from the prying whispers. So, the whispers turned to taunts and the taunts fell to humiliation.
At every chance your classmates had, they would remind you of everything surrounding your family. Every grade that was slightly below perfect left you pointed at and laughed at with words so smooth the teachers with no concern for their students did nothing to stop it. Letters and threats were slipped into your books and bag, promises that even if you slightly smeared the reputation of the capitol would result in a bloody end. Yet still, you held your head high, but your mouth ran wild, insulting the students who stepped too far over the line.
It was only natural that a bond between you and Sejanus would blossom, and then grow stronger with each passing day. The insidious nature of the whispers, each with its unique twist, seemed to seep into the very air you both breathed. There was an acute awareness that, despite the bonds you were weaving, there was no fortress impervious enough to shield you from the relentless scrutiny of your peers that thought themselves better,
Yet, in defiance of the echoing gossip, you and Sejanus found solace in the simple acts of togetherness. The friendship grew to a point that simply knowing the other was there was enough to make the days bearable. Sitting closely in the classroom, sharing quiet moments during lunch, or merely walking side by side through the bustling halls became your only moments of peace. In the bubble you created, the whispers seemed to lose their cutting edge, despite the storms of constant judgement swirling around you.
But when Sejanus’s tribute Marcus, a boy he had been friends with had been strung up in the arena like a trophy or a warning, everything around him had collapsed at once. He grabbed his chair, throwing it and his desk across the room and he turned to the students and teachers, tears streaming down his face. “You’re monsters!” He screamed. “All of you!”
He stormed out of the hall, and you barely spared a glance at the screen before chasing him. He threw the doors open, storming down the hall and walking from the academy collapsing onto a stone wall. He screamed, tears streaming down his face. The courtyards were empty, the people shut themselves in their homes to watch the games.
You stopped by Sejanus, placing a hand on his shoulder and leaning to meet his eyes. “Janus…” Your voice was soft, as you called for him, but his tears continued to stream down his face. “I’m so sorry.” He straightened, trying to stop the shaking from consuming his body but he couldn't.
You wrapped your arms around him, pulling him into a tight embrace as if trying to absorb every emotion that was consuming his body. His arms wound around you, as if simply holding you could wash away everything in the world. In your arms, nothing could hurt him.
Your mind scrambled to find any words that could comfort him, but you couldn't. Nothing you could say could make any of this alright.
“What can I do?” It was a weak attempt to help, but you couldn't do anything else. He knew that but somehow, a part of him thought you could fix everything. It was irrational but his mind wasn’t working properly.
“It’s gonna be okay,” you muttered.
They weren't the right words.
“How are you so calm?” Sejanus' words were harsher than he wanted them to be, and his quick movements to pull away didn't help.
You were stunned at the way he snapped at you and you stammered,
“I can't- I can’t fix it, Janus. I’m just trying to help.”
This time his anger was more purposeful, “No you’re trying to calm me down, like this isn't a big deal.” Sejanus shook his head, trying to keep his anger at bay. "We didn't all have Capital childhoods, so sorry that I can't cope."
You scoffed, your own anger rising. "Just because my childhood doesn't mean it wasn't bad. Yeah, I was safe, but I was alone, and I never had anyone to turn to. I don’t understand what you’re feeling, but I’m trying to help." Sejanus turned to you, and you shook your head, your voice raising, “Just because you live in the capitol doesn't make you capitol.”
“Are you bringing up the districts? Now?”
“You’re not capitol because once you were district, you're not capitol because you are kind,” Your voice shook, the anger leaving as Sejanus’s tense shoulders dropped. “You’re kind Janus. You care, and you hope. People in the capitol don’t see anyone else that way. Not people like us.”
You sighed and leaned against the stone wall. “You have status Sejanus; your father has money. You’re protected even though you don't know it.” Sejanus sat next to you, watching you closely as you played with the sleeves of your academy uniform. “My mother is a nobody capitol woman, and my father was a district whore. I was safe in the capitol, but not from them.” You turned back to gesture at the academy.
“I wasn't safe either,”
“It's different and you know it.”
“I’m not saying it isn't. I’m saying you’re not alone and… I’m always here for you.” He took your hand, intertwining your fingers. “There’s always someone on your side.”
Sejanus smiled, tears gathering in his eyes once again. “Thank you… for helping.”
“And someone on yours.” You looked around, making sure there was no one nearby. You shuffled closer to Sejanus, whispering to him. “When it gets dark, if you give one of the peacemakers enough money, they might let you in.” Sejanus turned to you; his eyebrows furrowed. “Pay your respects. It doesn't make it better, but- I, I don’t know what else.”

Yandere! Alt. Gabriel X Reader (ROMANTIC) (Part 1)
Honestly I was waiting for this request to come while having no plot ready in mind Requested by Nadmur on AO3 Warning: gore, inhumane features, death, suicide, lengthy writing, kind of angsty? Not very heavy on angst tho (Alt. Gabriel = Lucifer Toonbriel = Gabriel)
. . . . .
You are a child of a humble shepherd, and one of God's most devoted followers.
You held the Bible in your hands every morning and every night, and prayed to Him and glorified Him and asked for His mercy. Although your friends around you have scolded you for believing such lies, you only felt pity for them that they would end up in Hell if they kept denying the truth. You have tried countless of times to spread the word of God, the Gospel. But some people, like your friends, weren't so open to messages. There was word that spread around those days, the Son of God would descend from the Heavens and would be brought upon to Earth. But people were getting impatient and was losing their faith. You stayed strong, just like your mother and father. Your family wasn't the richest, as your mother made crafts and delicious goods to sell, and you had to admit, was one of the best items to be made and sold in this little countryside near Bethlehem.
One day, at night, your father was tending his flock, with his other shepherd friend. You were beside them and talking to your father's friend's daughter. Her name was Ruth, a nice young female from the midst of Bethlehem. Ruth had dark large irises with long lashes, long dark brown curly hair, and tan skin, a little plump and shorter than you. You and Ruth weren't just friends, you were best friends with her. She showed humbleness and kindness towards everyone, and was another devoted follower of the Father, their Lord. Ruth was the only person you felt the closest to, as your other friends weren't as close to God as both of you were. She was just more... easily approachable and non-judgemental than the others were.
Suddenly, the four was blinded by a bright light from the skies. Was this the birth of the Father's Son, and were they there to witness it with their very own eyes? Suddenly, from the skies a masculine voice rang out, echoing across the meadows heavily, yet light as a flute.
"Greetings!"
Your father and friend stumbled in terror and tripped over each other as you and Ruth looked up at the strange, spirits, hugging each other in fear. The spirits were humanoids with golden halos over their heads, clad in white and pale golden robes, with magnificent white wings outstretched behind their backs. One of them flew towards the humans and approached carefully, his figure illuminated by a golden light that he himself radiated alone brightly. He wore a white robe over his yellow one, had blue eyes, fair skin, and short orange curly hair. He looked beautiful, and pure and holy, and no human languages could describe these heavenly angels.
"Don't be afraid!" the spirit reassured, "I am the Archangel Gabriel, and I bring forth with great news of great joy, for you and all people."
The shepherds stood up and you and Ruth let go, but not before looking at each other in the eyes and holding hands tightly.
"Tonight, your savior was born in Davidstown," the angel continued on his message, "He is Christ, the Lord. You will find him wrapped in soft cloth and lying in a manger."
Then the spirits sing heavenly while they flew away into the midnight skies, and the four watched them fly away and get enveloped by white clouds. The shepherds look at one another, and shrug to each other. "We should visit Christ, the Lord," your father said to his friend. "We got the privilege to see our savior, so we shall go and see the birth of the Son."
"That I agree with," his friend agreed. He turned to you and Ruth. "Young ones, prepare the food and water, for we shall go our way to Davidstown, Bethlehem. We will go when you are ready whenever you are, but make haste."
"Yes, father," Ruth said obediently, and you slightly bowed in respect to the elderly. Both of you went back inside the house. "Oh my, I am rather feeling nervous," Ruth whispered to you as both of you started packing for a journey to the city. "For we are the first to get to see our true Savior? I can't believe my luck that has passed forth to me."
You agreed with her, whether you were anxious to meet him in person, in birth, or excited. Possibly both.
"I have finished, [Name]," Ruth informed you. "I shall be waiting for you outside, dear friend. Take your time as you may need." Then she left outside with a small bundle of bag, to help the shepherds herd their sheep in their pens.
You were almost done packing when you suddenly heard an eldritch sound and the skies suddenly darkened. The world visibly darkened before your eyes, and even though you could barely see in the dark, you could hear. The deafening silence that blanketed heavily in the air. You were curious, and fearful, but you had to see what was going on. So you recklessly ran outside, but then hid behind a rock closeby the shepherds and Ruth.
A pale, beautiful figure was in the sky, their face obscured by a black shadow. Their hair was long and wavy, apparently blond. They were clad in long, white robes that covered their feet yet they never seemed to get dirty from the soil. Their skin was pale and fair, their form slender. They seemed to look like the Archangel Gabriel, except more in a light grey monochromatic color scheme and the clothing was a little different. Their slinder, beautiful hands were clasped together as if desperate for a prayer.
But this wasn't a holy spirit.
"Do not be afraid, my dear shepherds."
Their raspy voice was whispery, trailing in the air with power despite the volume they were speaking in. Their pronunciation with words and accents were strange; some parts dragged out longer than usual or some words were pronounced strangely. Their voice did not sound humane, but they still sounded ethereal despite the strange conditions.
"I have great news."
You kept on eavesdropping.
"I am your true savior."
... What??
"I know everything about what makes you human."
The way the being said unnerved you down the spine, and you shivered in fear and discomfort. The air was suddenly much colder than before. Had it always been this cold under the beautiful night sky?
The shadow in their face cleared slowly, and underneath revealed a surprisingly elegant face: almond blue eyes, fair skin and high cheekbones.
"I know what you love."
Here the being smiled.
"I know what you dread."
Here the false angel's face suddenly stretches unnaturally wide, and in a blink of your eyes, their face had completely changed. Tall, elongated white eyes with pitch black irises with a huge, uncanny smile impossible for a human. You father, his fried, and Ruth covered their ears with their hands and bent over, kneeling in pain, screaming. You were also doing the same, feeling sharp pains stabbing in your mind through your ears. You were also screaming, but it was silent and your screams were unheard. You closed your eyes tightly.
"Jesus loves me, this I know!
"FOOȮ̴͓̯͚͉̥̈́͘Ọ̴̲͔͙̗͈̪͊̓͑͂͂̍̅O̷̲͙̊̔͒ͅO̴͖̎̾̐͛̄͒̃O̶̩͍̰̺͕̤̓̾̔͆̈̆͠ Ō̵̗̬̿̀̈̋̇̏̋ O̷̳̙͚͚̲͈̠͉̓̎Ó̸̧͉͕̗͓̳͌̇̆̅̕͝ O̶̙͚͌́̋͂̍̈́Ọ̵͉̳̫̻̯̈͂̊́͘ O̶̟͉̮̺̞̝̖̣͑̈́̈̾ Ǫ̵̨̳͍̩͙͙̤́́ Ŗ̵̧͉̹̈̆̆͂̇̆ O̷̧͙̓̂̈́̏͌̊͝R̶̺̗͠͠ R̷̩̫͍̬̅̑̓͆͑ Ŗ̵̲̲̤̿̍Ŕ̴̝̖͉̄ R̷̰͙͉̳̞͗̀̾̅̓̐̇͘R̶̨̨͔͍̼̺̟͌ Ŗ̴̛̪̗͍͙̆̈́͘ Ṟ̸͎͔͕͑̾̀̎͘͜ R̸̢̐̍͒̋͌͂̕͘ Ṟ̶̢̠͈̱͕͐̏͌̏͆̐͝ͅ R̷̯͈̭̦̹̖͑̂̔͑̏̎̇ Ṟ̶͓͓̣͚̜͆̌̐̽͐͠ R̵̤̊̈́̃̋͝ R̵̨̨̡͇̄ͅŖ̷͓̹̀̆̀̓̇̑͠R̴̨̛̘̰̘̯͔͈̳͊R̷̨̨͉̣̪̀R̷̜͎̯͓͇͔̖̃̀R̶̨͋̈́͑͑͑Ṙ̸̯͉̞͓͈̆̽̔̃̇̃-"
Then silence. The only thing you could hear was your own breath, panting from the adrenaline that shot through you.
Moments that seemed to last an eternity passed.
The pain that have shot up in your head and in your ears stopped. You slowly looked up while uncovering your ears. You saw three fallen human figures, the false angel nowhere to be seen, but the skies were still pitch dark. You ran over to them, and realized with a lurching horror all of them died, blood pouring from their eyes and ears, pooling underneath their heads. Your father had his eyes closed, and his friend stared off into the valleys blanky, which was a mercy.
But Ruth was staring, glassy eyed, right at you, her lifeless brown eyes boring into your own and burned into your mind. You couldn't move. It was as if she was blaming you that you couldn't stop her death. You couldn't breathe, as if someone was strangling you and sucking the breath out of you.
You felt like you were being watched by something else other than Ruth, but your legs gave in underneath you, and you collapsed onto your knees next to Ruth. Your dear friend Ruth. You felt your heart sink and hurt you as your emotions got wounded. You were deeply in grief, and anguished. Your best friend, taken away by that.. false angel.
Who were they, entitled enough to call themselves that they were the true savior, and proceed to take your loved ones away in a night?
How DARE they take away your own life you didn't expect would change this drastically?
You started to cry as tears rolled down your cheeks.
"Why do you weep?"
You didn't answer, because you knew the false angel was back. You didn't know why. Maybe they wanted to deceive you into further damnation. Maybe they wanted to see your life fall apart and walk away from God by suicide. Or maybe they just simply wanted to see your suffering.
"Beautiful one, there is no need to stay melancholy. I shall be here for you."
You didn't answer yet again. You just ran back inside your home in desperation to get away from the false angel's attraction. They watched you go inside the house and slam the door. They knew exactly why you were acting like this, but they couldn't help that heavy hearted feeling for a moment when you ran away from them. But no matter. He knows what you love, and what you dread. They are in neither of that list, as far as they knew.
But even if by force, they'll make you love them. And only them.
. . . . .
You felt the constant feel of being watched after that incident happened.
Whenever you went, a pair of eyes always followed you, but when you looked around no one was watching you in particular. When you were alone on night streets it was even worse, even hearing an occasional footstep behind you every once in a while. Your paranoia increased, and you refused to leave your home now. You were scared, honestly; nothing had made you this much terror before. You prayed to God, in hopes of His protection against the fear you were feeling, but strangely, He was silent and never replied. Which was strange, as 90% of the time you prayed to Him you heard His voice directly speaking to you. But now as if He disappeared, or abandoned you, or He wasn't able to receive any prayers.
The situation only turned for the worse from here. You thought it couldn't get any worse, but it did. Rumors of these beings known as Alternates, were silently replacing humanity, most of the times without much notice. Some had witnessed a tall figure of a shadow with piercing white eyes. Others have seen the similar creatures turn into one of the people they have killed. These people barely came out alive. Reports of a strange grey angel was sometimes seen walking in the streets, but every time the people blinked the angel vanished from view, as if they were never there.
You knew what that meant.
But no, you would never commit (or try to) commit a sin. That would be against the Ten Commandments, against the word of God. You would try your best to maintain your faith on Him. This was probably just one of His tests on you to see if you could hold onto your humbleness, right?
Right?
You firmly believed in this until the false angel approached you in your home while you were sleeping. When you have opened your eyes, startled, you were even more shocked to see that this being was invading your bedroom. Those pale blue eyes, cold as ice and intense, boring into your own. Their beautiful face seemingly illuminating in the dark even though black shadows emitted from this creature.
"Greetings," they said in a whispery voice, sounding almost angelic, but you wouldn never forget that encounter that changed your life forever. "As you have already seen my true form, I will not conceal my true name from you. I am Lucifer of the fallen angels."
... wait.
Did this being just say...
Their name was Lucifer?
The infamous fallen angel known to have rebelled against God, and became the Deceiver, Satan himself?
"You seem quite surprised," Lucifer noted, mostly to himself. You were extremely confused. Yes, you were a very devoted follower of God, and expected that one day, Satan would come in a beautiful disguise and deceive you to turn away from the Lord. You heard of stories in the Bible where God would give permission to Satan to test their faith in the Heavenly Father, but you didn't expect Him to choose you as one of those beings. You were worth the time from the Devil himself to get personally deceived by him??
"I have come forth with wonderful news," Satan, or Lucifer, as he seems to be preferably called for now, spoke after watching you with careful eyes. He said this next sentence very carefully and slowly while watching your reaction. "I have decided... with lots of consideration and time put into the thoughts... that you shall become my apprentice... in the arts of deceiving and lies."
You stared back at him dumbly. What??? Not what you were expecting, but for the Lord you had to stay strong. You very politely declined his offer, despite the fearful stutterings you let out and a whimper of terror when he pursed his lips in slight impatience.
"Why do you deny me, young one?" He said calmly, his patience everlasting. "Why do you choose to live in darkness, when I could bring you forth into light? I wish only for the best of you, [Name]." Here you shudder, because how did this creep figure out what your name was? You've never introduced to him in your life. "Why do you deny me?"
Stay strong, [Name].
You told him the reasons why, nervously, knowing this choice would bring great consequences.
The false angel's face turned grim and dark.
"I am your Lord, my child," he said sternly with a cold voice. Every word could not be unheard, all the letters burned into your head and brightly displayed what he was telling you. Every single letter, sharp as knives, unescapable. "You shall be my apprentice no matter the choice you desire to make. I will make the choices for you that shall benefit your life one way or another. It is only for the best for you, after all."
You cried out in pain as Lucifer loomed over you, shadows dancing behind his form. You kept denying him, repeating the truth in the Scripture over and over again, in hopes the words from the Bible cleared your mind. Instead, it strangely had the opposite effect, fogging up your mind, and your consciousness fading to darkness. The last words before your eyes fluttered closed was from Lucifer.
"Sleep well, my love."

Your Best Friend's Jealousy
Y/N had known Donna for almost ten years. They met back in as teenagers when Y/N moved to Monstadt, next to Donna's house and they clicked instantly. Over the years, Donna became more than just a neighbour, she was like a sister Y/N never had. They supported each other through life's ups and downs and more.
But, as Y/N's wedding day approached, things started to shift. Diluc is the kind of partner every girl dreams about; supportive, loving and incredibly patient. When he proposed the previous year, it was the happiest day of Y/N's life. Planning their wedding, Y/N imagined the perfect day surrounded by friends and family.
However, Donna's behaviour had been a growing concern. Her drinking, once just a casual part of her life, had started to grow problematic. Donna had started flirting recklessly and often crossed boundaries, especially with men.
Y/N brushed off her concerns at first, attributing it to wedding stress and Donna's tough phase at work.
“Y/N, you know I'm here for you, right?” Donna asked one evening over drinks, her voice tinged with a seriousness that was rare for her.
“Of course, Donna.” Y/N replied. “You're my rock.”
But as the wedding drew near, Donna's behaviour escalated.
At Y/N's celebratory party, Donna was visibly drunk, making everyone uncomfortable. She whispered something to Diluc that night and Y/N saw his face tighten.
Y/N decided to confront Donna the next day.
“Donna, what did you tell Diluc last night?” Y/N ventured. “You seem… off.”
“Y/N, don't be such a worry-wart.” Donna waved a dismissive hand. “I was just teasing him. Lighten up.”
Y/N frowned; Donna's words did not match the look she saw Diluc's face.
This chapter of Y/N's life, filled with trust and friendship, was about to be tested in ways Y/N never imagined.
The weeks leading up to the wedding was a blur of decorations, tastings and final fittings, with Adelinde coordinating everything.
But, the shadow of Donna's odd behaviour still lingered on Y/N's mind.
One afternoon, while Y/N and Donna were reviewing sitting arrangements, Y/N noticed Donna chatting up Charles, probing him for information about Diluc.
Y/N tried to brush off the unease creeping up her spine; her mind adding yet another doubt to Y/N's ever growing mental list.
However, even more incidents began to pile up, each even more unsettling than the last.
On the morning of the wedding, the air was crisp and Y/N's heart was full of hope that the day would smooth over any lingering tensions.
As Y/N got ready, Donna flitted around, seemingly in high spirits which calmed Y/N down.
But as they stood in the plaza in front of the Favonius Cathedral, ready for the ceremony, Donna's mood shifted, becoming quieter with forced smiles.
“Stop the wedding!” Donna suddenly shouted, before Y/N and Diluc announced their wedding vows. “Master Diluc is the father of my child! I'm carrying the next heir of the Ragnvindr Clan. Master Diluc has to marry me!”
A blanket of silence enveloped the plaza as all eyes turned to Y/N and she felt her heart stop.
“Donna, what are you talking about?” Kaeya hissed, his voice as icy as the Vision he bore.
Donna looked at Y/N, then at the wedding guests, a twisted smirk on her face. “Master Diluc, tell her.” she cooed. “Tell her about us.”
Diluc kept his expression firm. “There's nothing to tell, Donna. It's all lies. Donna, this needs to stop, now.”
But Donna reminded unfazed, continuing her accusations as murmurs swelled.
Y/N realized this was Donna's version of some twisted revenge for slights only she perceived. As the chaos unfolded, Y/N realized it was more than just simple jealousy; Donna had planned this, with every intention of ruining what should have been the happiest day of her life.
“Y/N, believe me.” Diluc remained by her side. “We'll get through this together.”
“The Knights of Favonius will also stand with you.” Jean assured, Kaeya and Albedo nodding in agreement.
“Everyone, there has been a huge misunderstanding.” Kaeya announced. “Donna is not telling the truth. I have evidence of Donna's deceit. This isn't just about today. It's been going on for a while.”
Pulling out a folder from seemingly nowhere, the Cryo user revealed the numerous love letters written by Donna to Diluc, still unopened. “Adelinde kept these unopened. Let's read one, shall we?” breaking one of the envelope's seals, he began to read the contents, filled with inappropriate suggestions and declarations of feelings; feelings that Diluc never reciprocated.
Donna's face turned pale, her confident facade beginning to crack.
“Donna, this has to stop.” Donna's mother stormed up to her daughter. “Not only did you betray your best friend, but you've brought disgrace to our family. What do you have to say for yourself?”
Donna looked around, her usual bravado gone. “I was just upset. Y/N was always the perfect one; she gets to go to law school in Liyue and now she helps Master Diluc run the Dawn Winery as its legal consultant. I just wanted something for myself.”
“By destroying our lives?” Y/N spat. “Is that your solution? I never wanted to believe you'd go this far. Our friendship is over! Do not contact me ever again!”
“Donna, I think it's best if you leave.” Jean interjected.
“We're deeply sorry about this, Acting Grand Master, Master Diluc.” Donna's mother apologized and pulled her daughter off.
After the disruption settled, Sister Grace cleared her throat and the wedding continued.

Beginners Can Work With Deities ❁ཻུ۪۪ ━
‧₊˚. : · •. * • ˚ . · * ✶ : · • * ˚ ✵
As an individual who tries to actively engage with deities and seeks to maintain an ongoing connection in every feasible manner, one concept that has consistently bothered me is: "Beginners can't work with deities." While I understand the importance of guidance and experience in any spiritual journey, the complexity that comes along with the idea of working with deities and more—I firmly believe that beginners should not be discouraged from exploring and developing relationships with deities if they feel called to do so and or being pushed to do so.
A common problem I frequently observe is the spreading of fear within communities regarding certain deities. People are often told that these deities are intimidating, demanding, "horrifying," and can exhibit possessiveness, jealousy, control, or aggression. They are made to believe that skipping a day of worship or neglecting their craft will lead to negative consequences. This narrative is both harmful and completely untrue. It is filled with misinformation and promotes fear-mongering. Moreover, it wrongly restricts a deity's behaviour and portrays higher beings as something to be afraid of, rather than respecting their power and the impact that they do make. Additionally, it perpetuates the notion that the deity is flawless and incapable of making mistakes, despite numerous stories suggesting otherwise. A lot of this can be the fault of our beliefs being heavily Christianized with the "Lord and Servant" dynamic.
Working with deities is a deeply personal and individual journey. Each person's path is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. It is essential to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to connecting with the deities. By imposing a blanket statement that beginners should not work with deities, we are effectively restricting their spiritual growth and potential. We all started somewhere. We were all beginners.
I understand the concern about someone's journey and the potential involvement of a "trickster spirit." However, it's important to note that these spirits are easily recognizable, and not everyone believes in them. In fact, such encounters are quite rare! If you've been engaging with deities, symbols, or any associations connected to them, the chances of encountering a "trickster spirit" are highly unlikely. So don't believe everything you hear on TikTok or YouTube and follow your intuition. Also, keep in mind that this belief doesn't just restrict itself to deities, but it could even be with guides.
If you've done a lot of research on a deity that you feel drawn towards then go forward working with them, especially if you feel that there is a connection.
It's worth noting that working with deities is not a requirement. There are witches and pagans who choose not to incorporate deities into their practice or much rather, they may be working with something else or nothing at all. It doesn't make them less of a pagan or a witch or whatever they choose to identify as.
Deity Relationships ❁ཻུ۪۪ ━
Practitioners can develop various relationships with deities, such as parent/child, teacher/student, familial, friends, or lovers (although that topic can be discussed separately). The possibilities for a person's connection with a deity are diverse and not limited to a single type of relationship.
𖤣𖥧˚ A healthy relationship with a deity can look like
Mutual Respect: A healthy deity relationship is built upon a foundation of respect. Both the individual and the deity should honour and acknowledge each other's boundaries, beliefs, and values. Respect entails treating the deity as a revered entity while also recognizing one's own worth and agency as an individual.
Clear Communication: Open and consistent communication is vital in a healthy deity relationship. This can involve prayers, rituals, meditation, or any other form of spiritual practice that allows for a genuine connection. Regularly engaging with the deity helps foster a deeper understanding and strengthens the bond between both parties.
Reciprocity and Offerings: Healthy deity relationships often involve an element of reciprocity. Devotees offer their devotion, time, energy, and resources as acts of love and reverence. These offerings can take various forms, such as prayers, rituals, sacrifices, donations, or acts of service. In return, devotees may receive blessings, guidance, and support from the deity.
Boundaries and Consent: Just as in any relationship, it is crucial to respect boundaries and seek consent. Devotees should be mindful of the deity's boundaries and follow established protocols or traditions. It is also important to remember that a deity has agency and can choose to engage or withdraw from the relationship at any time. Just like the devotee. Consent and boundaries foster a healthy and respectful dynamic.
Flexibility and Adaptability: A healthy deity relationship is adaptable to change and growth. As individuals evolve on their spiritual journey, their understanding, needs, and perspectives may shift. Similarly, deities may reveal different aspects of themselves or guide individuals in new directions. Flexibility and openness to these changes contribute to the health and longevity of the relationship.
𖤣𖥧˚ An unhealthy relationship with a deity can look like
Codependency: If the practitioner becomes overly dependent on the deity for every aspect of their life, it can indicate an unhealthy dynamic. Relying solely on the deity for decision-making, guidance, and validation without exercising personal agency and autonomy can lead to an imbalanced relationship.
Lack of Boundaries: Boundaries are essential in any relationship, including deity relationships. If the practitioner disregards their own boundaries or if the deity consistently crosses them, it can result in an unhealthy and potentially harmful connection. Boundaries should be respected and honoured by both parties involved.
Coercion or Manipulation: If the practitioner feels compelled or pressured by the deity to engage in actions or rituals against their will or moral compass, it can indicate an unhealthy dynamic. Deities should not manipulate or force practitioners into obedience or compliance.
Fear or Punitive Beliefs: If the practitioner constantly lives in fear of retribution, punishment, or wrath from the deity, it suggests an unhealthy dynamic. Deities should not be perceived as solely punitive figures, but rather as sources of guidance, support, and compassion.
Loss of Critical Thinking: When a deity relationship discourages critical thinking, questioning, or individual discernment, it can lead to a loss of personal agency and autonomy. An unhealthy dynamic may involve blind obedience or a strict adherence to dogma without room for personal growth or exploration.
Please note that the actions described may not necessarily be attributed to a deity. It could involve the practitioner or other factors at play. This example aims to illustrate an unhealthy relationship between a deity and the practitioner, rather than stating that it will definitely occur.
𖤣𖥧˚ What if a Deity Doesn't Want to Work with You?
If a deity chooses not to work with you, it's important to acknowledge their prerogative. It doesn't mean you are "bad" or "evil." Similar to human relationships, not everyone can be friends, and the same applies to interactions with deities. It's acceptable for deities to decline, just as it is for you to decline to work with them. They won't punish you for your efforts, and they certainly won't punish you for saying no to working with them.

A more fleshed out idea of how I would have ended the Lenector story in the most balanced way I can think of.
Lenore is Hector's prisoner, as per canon. He still treats her as nothing happened, like a good friend, but Lenore is sulking and angry and not even bothering to keep up the façade like Hector used to do in her position. It's unfair, after she treated him as her only confidant, and she couldn't care less, that's what the traitor gets. Hector thinks he should be happy, to have reversed the roles on her... but he isn't. Unlike Lenore, power over another person doesn't satisfy him. He can't help but see her as a depressed animal in a cage... much like he used to be.
He wanted to protect her, he really did, but only now he's seeing how much hurt he caused her. Much like she said she meant to do with the ring, although to this day he doesn't know if it was a lie or the truth. There is no joy in inflicting her the same fate she inflicted upon him, even if it comes from a place of well-meaning and not selfishness. He has seen what that kind of "eye for an eye" mentality brings to the world, and he wants none of it.
So, he finally takes a decision for himself, and repays the one debt he has with her. He helps her flee from the castle. He is, for the first time, showing empathy to a person and not an animal.
(I don't even think Isaac needs to be kept in the dark. Lenore on her own is harmless, nothing like Carmilla who became a danger to the world. Hector and Lenore are dangerous tools in the wrong hands, but they lack the ambition that makes them solid threats, as they are mostly concerned with feeling safe. If Isaac truly wants to do good to everyone, he has no reason to keep Lenore as a prisoner, not even to force her to work for him. Same for Hector, since the two might have "forgiven" each other, but they have no relationship whatsoever. Perhaps him heeding Hector's request could show more how compassionate he has truly grown.)
Lenore is confused as to why, and Hector more or less explains that he couldn't bear watching her drinking herself into a stupor. Lenore snaps, and yells at him that he has no right to feeling sorry for her after what he has done, after going behind her back, after ruining her life... and is promptly shot down by Hector flashing his mutilated hand. Every ounce of ire Lenore directs at Hector is actually directed at herself, and they both know it. She is deeply regretting everything she did for the sake of people that didn't even respect her, she is just too proud to apologize. And her pride, her insecurity, her need to be the one in control, was what prevented her from truly being the good person she wanted to be. The very reason Hector wasn't happy with her despite her best efforts, and destroyed her life.
She really thought something so paltry as a slave ring would tame the human spirit. She really thought humans, like vampires, would care more about safety than freedom. For a diplomat who set herself to bridge humankind and vampirekind, she let her basic instincts get the better of her.
"Why didn't you just kill me back then?" she yells, attacks, it feels so good to blame Hector rather than herself. "At least I wouldn't have known how little I matter to you!"
"I'm no longer that child," Hector responds. "I'm no longer the boy who believes to have the right to punish others. Besides, shouldn't you know the desire to spare someone's life no matter what?"
They had never breached that subject again, not after Lenore dismissed it in a fit of denial. It still weighs on her. He can no longer care.
"All this time," Hector says at last, "I expected an apology, but I think I don't need it anymore. As much as I don't need you anymore. I'm grateful for your efforts to protect me from your sisters' ire, so now I'll use them to live for myself. I'm sorry it had to be this way."
He holds no grudges anymore, and he has genuinely come to appreciate the real Lenore behind her masks and the way she took care of him during the previous six weeks, when the world would have chewed him and spit him out; but at the same time, he can't bear staying with her. She makes him too sad. It reminds him of how low he allowed himself to be brought for the sake of some scraps of love. She reminds him too much of a version of him he doesn't want to be. There are too many conflicting feelings in him. He can't help but think that, in another life, the two could have been genuine friends, if not more... but not this one. Too much baggage, too much shared misery. He is done with it. No more will he seek safety and love in other people, as if he wasn't strong enough. He deserves better.
Lenore doesn't know what to think anymore. She wants to die so badly, she is almost tempted to not hide herself from the sun: she can't concieve her existence as nothing more than a black hole, unworthy of living. She is nothing more than a disgusting monster doomed to spread misery to the world, she thinks, and she should die like one. She has nothing left, no allies, no home, and the one person she fell in love with is pulling away from her, and she can't bear being abandoned, and she completely understands why he's doing so. At the same time, however... Hector too has nothing left, and yet he wants to live. After everything he went through, after himself desiring death at Isaac's hand, he wants to experience real life, not survival like he has done since he was born. Lenore pretended to praise his strength when she was manipulating him, but now she has come to genuinely admire that trait. Can she, a vampire used to nothing but comfort, be as strong as a human being?
She wants to ask Hector if he thinks she's a good person. A glance at his mutilated hand answers her more than any word could. Lenore, all this time, had no idea what being "good" meant, she was only good at putting up a façade of gentleness, and she thought it was enough. All this time, she behaved like a vampire pretending to be human... so now, she will learn from the best human she has ever met. The best person. The only one who saw her as a person as well, behind her masks, behind her usefulness.
Even if Hector is now walking towards the dawn, with nothing but his resolution. For the first time, he will live for him, for himself.
They will never meet again, but in a twisted way, they gave each other what they needed to grow.

Canon Divergence pt 2
part 1
Leo's blood runs cold as he stares up at the man before him. The man whose private office he had infiltrated. Elliot's father. The Great Duke Bernard Nightray.
Behind him stand two of the largest men that Leo has ever seen, each bearing Pandora's insignia on the lapel of their stark, black suit. However, the Duke waves a hand to dismiss them both.
"Watch the door. If my son tries to intervene, you have my permission to restrain him. And if anything should happen to me in here, you are to kill him immediately and blame this servant."
Leo's starry eyes go wide. But somehow, he swallows down his gut reaction to jump right over the large desk between them.
Though their expressions seem unchanging, the two guards share a hesitant glance.
"That is an order."
"he's your son--!!!" Leo protests, only to be silenced by the Duke's raised hand.
"Do not make me repeat myself," The Duke fixes a cold, steady gaze on the young man behind his desk. "Glen Baskerville."
Feeling safe alone with Elliot, Leo had left his glasses behind when he'd gone to snoop. Now, he finds himself unable escape the authorative stare of the Duke Nightray.
He feels so small. So helpless.
So confused.
He doesn't feel like the fabled head of the Baskervilles. He doesn't feel like the cruel mastermind behind the Tragedy of Sablier.
He feels like the little child taken away to an orphanage in a ghost town.
He feels like a wild animal on trial for a crime it can't possibly comprehend.
And he feels those ghosts surrounding him, their judging eyes cast down on him like spotlights.
Slowly, sheepishly, Leo nods.
The guards turn to stand outside the main office, leaving the two alone inside the secret room.
"i don't know what you're talking about," Leo's voice sounds tiny. "i don't know anything about the Baskervilles. i'm just--"
"And here I was told you were clever," Duke Nightray interrupts. "You see the golden lights of Abyss that no one else does. There's no question that you're one of them." The Duke's face changes briefly to a scowl of disgust as he spits that word like it's something rancid.
"I thought by now those voices in your head would have directed you to your purpose. Three Sealing Stones down, yet you still seemed content playing the good little valet, unaware of the great power you hold. But now that you know the truth, we can finally work together."
"i don't want power. i. just want to save Elliot, and those kids--" Leo protests.
"That's the problem with commoners like you. Your world is too small to see the bigger picture before you, and you let your feelings get in the way of success," the Duke chides.
"they're going to die if someone doesn't do something!" Leo gasps. He can feel his rage simmering inside him, but he bites back his volume. He cannot wake Elliot.
"It's unfortunate, but the reality is that there's nothing anyone can do."
"that's a lie," Leo protests. "you could have saved his life if you killed the Chain right away, right?!"
"That Chain is special."
Exactly what those ghosts had said.
But unlike the spirits, the Duke Nightray elaborates.
"Humpty Dumpty distributes the burden of the Seal across many different Contractors. Every one of those seeds planted before Elliot's would need to be culled first. Do you realize how devastating that would be?! We didn't have Raven back then, our family's position within Pandora relied on the research in that facility. We had invested years, millions of dollars, and the shreds of our reputation on that research. All of that would have gone to waste! And what do you think would have happened to all those other Contractors?"
The Duke pauses as he narrows his eyes on Leo. "How many of those children would you want to kill just to save your precious friend?"
Leo feels something horrible and hot bubbling inside his chest. He's quite familiar with rage. This is something different, something unfamiliar. Something more.
This must be hatred, he thinks.
"Elliot is your son."
"And it wasn't a decision that I made lightly. But life is not without great sacrifice." The Duke's gaze is unwavering. "You have the opportunity to see that their sacrifices are not in vain, though."
Leo grits his teeth. His hands clench into fists in his lap. "what do you want from me?"
"Your cooperation," the Duke Nightray says. "If the legends about you are true, then those Baskervilles will have no choice but to obey your every order. I want you to command them to protect this family. Together, we can restore the Nightray name and pride."
"is that really the only thing you care about?!" Leo shouts, unable to hold back his anger any longer. "what happens if i say no?!"
"Then I shoot you dead, here and now. I tell Pandora that you were Glen Baskerville, and the Headhunter as well. Our family takes the credit for catching you, and our honor and reputation will be restored. It's just a shame that I couldn't stop you from striking again, first."
"your family name is so important that you'd kill your actual family to restore it?" Leo growls in disgust. "how does that make any sense?!!!"
"You and I both know you won't say no under those conditions. And you also know that boy. He's dedicated his life to restoring our family's honor since the day he could speak. If Humpty Dumpty would allow him to hold the thought in his head, he would want it this way."
"no he wouldn't!! Leo shouts. "if you actually knew anything about him, you'd know he hates that self-sacrificing bullshit!!"
"I think I should know my own son," the Duke scoffs. "He's far too immature and emotional to ever hope to lead this family, and he can't even bear a proper heir. Dying to restore our reputation and honor was always the greatest way he could ever hope to bring pride to this--"
The Duke's speech is cut short by a sudden rush of wind.
And then, things seem to move in slow motion.
Leo watches in horror as the Duke's head slides forward, clean off his shoulders.
He watches it fall, frame by frame. It hits the ground, leaving a splatter, and a trail of blood as it rolls across the hardwood floor.
Then, the body of the Great Duke Bernard Nightray, Elliot's father, falls to its knees before slumping lifelessly on down to the floor.
A fearsome, skeletal beast in a tattered red robe hovers over the body. The Chain stares down at Leo with its empty eye sockets and gruesome grin. It sports long, twisted horns and wings of sharp bone that come together like the blades of scissors.
"You don't know the very first thing about Elliot."
From behind the awful monster steps a slender man with long blond hair, his mismatched eyes of red and gold narrowed in disgust.
"You scum," Vincent spits at the corpse at his feet.
Leo covers his mouth with both hands, barely containing a horrified scream. Vincent raises his head, and the ice-cold malice in his eyes seems to melt away as they fix on Leo. "You know, I always had a feeling you were something special," he remarks with a gentle smile that makes Leo's hair stand on end. "Master."
Leo can hardly process everything before him.
The Duke Nightray. Dead.
Dead at Vincent's feet.
Killed by the Headhunter.
Vincent is the Headhunter?
And a Baskerville?
Master....?
He feels so helpless. Confused. Frustrated.
Then, he hears the sound of his own name, called faintly from somewhere far outside the secret room. A familiar voice.
The realization makes him gasp.
"those guards are going to--"
"Those guards have already been dealt with." Though his smile doesn't change, Vincent's voice sends a chill down Leo's spine. "Now, we're going to have to get out of here, but you and I need to have a little bit of a chat."
Leo's focus goes quickly from the door, to Vincent.
To the fearsome, skeletal monster looming over him.
To the headless corpse of the Duke Nightray on the ground at his feet.
To his head...
He can barely hear Vincent speaking over the sound of his own pulse pounding in his ears.
he wouldn't.
not Elliot.
After all, he had just defended him.
right?
Leo hears Elliot's voice again, but it isn't calling his name this time. The raw, horrified scream chills Leo to the core and makes his stomach twist with nausea.
As Vincent turns his head toward the open doorway, that monstrous Chain does the same, its sharp teeth curled in a gruesome grin.
And Leo panics.
He dashes forward without thinking, pulling the teleporter device from his pocket as he throws himself into Vincent's back and hooks an arm around the taller man.
There's a flash of light. Then his phone and teleporter both clatter to the floor as Leo and Vincent disappear from the Narrative.
#ooc#drabbles#OHHHH BOYYYYY#I have literally been planning this plot event since this blog was like 2 weeks old#it feels so surreal to finally actually be here#like#fuck#no gods no masters no going back now

Leola's mother fic: Wish
The whole idea of Startouch elf reproduction boggles me as their essence is made of stars, but let's just say they can reproduce normally for this.
You and your husband were both fascinated in the world. He was interested in the secrets it and the universe had to offer. He was a curious soul, wanting to possess every secret of potential each primal source held. As for you, you couldn't help but admire the beauty of everything, how each source and secret flows into one another, how everything is connected, and the life existing in such ephemeral things. That's how the two of you were drawn together. Coming together, you made Leola.
Everything you thought about beauty was remade on the day she was born. She was the most beautiful being to ever exist. You were not put off by the fact she only had one horn, that just made her more beautiful in your eyes. She was so unique, no one else could ever compare, her one being made in this moment. The fact she was adored by Aaravos only confirmed the deep love you held for her. There was something that fascinated him more the secrets of the universe, that proved how precious she was. The love he held for her, made your love for him stronger.
You both called her "my little unicorn," and that nickname wasn't misplaced. As she grew she grew pure and innocent, with a large warm open heart. She was curious and clever like her father, and cared not about the flaws of mortals, much like you. However her compassion seemed much greater than yours, as you admired mortals as they were, she would spread her love amongst them. They loved her as she loved them. She had many friends, in animals, elves and humans. She even showed kindness to the plants surrounding her. She had moments of being odd, but you only saw them as lovely little quirks she had. You would not trade her for anyone else.
She knew how loved she was, and drew pictures for you and Aaravos. She drew pictures of him, her, them together, for you she drew pictures of flowers and trees, beautiful things she knew you loved.
You were all so happy in those short years.
Yet that happiness...in one instant...was taken from you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You begged, and argued with the council to spare your daughter. She was an innocent child who did no wrong and never sought to. You were willing to die for her, She had potential to be greater than you, she was much more beautiful than you were, her spark should not be snuffed out. They refused, the only mercy they gave was that either you or your husband could die with her if you chose.
Your spirit died in that moment, knowing there was nothing you could do to save her. There was no possible way to continue life, knowing such a beautiful child was murdered, was taken from you, that would be an injustice. You were so tempted to die, so your Leola wouldn't be alone where she went, so you wouldn't feel such agony of grief, yet you saw his eyes. He was angry, he possessed such a fury, one would be driven to do anything. What of the world Leola loved, what would happen to it? A bigger injustice, would be letting Leola's wish be unheard. So you chose to live, and protect the world she loved.
She was so scared when she died, but you did your best to comfort her before the end. You and your love cried for 100 years following her death, knealt over her fallen form. There were times you held him as he cried, times he held you, times you held each other, and times where you just let your tears fall. Your wailing could be heard to the stars, as the merciful one came and comforted you. You didn't want their comfort, you wanted nothing more to do with the stars and the heavens. From now on, you were solely earth-bound, as the heavens had betrayed you.
Both your hearts had dimmed. He became known as the midnight star, while you were the star of twilight. You and Aaravos hardly spoke anymore, there was no joy left in your life. Yet you had a mission. You continued where Leola left off, and taught the humans primal magic, entrusting the knowledge to the wise ones. You barely let yourself be known, lest the stars intervene then as well. Cloaked and mysterious, you taught them the makings of primal stones, taught them the ancient draconic words, and thus Elarion rose from the knowledge, as well as other major cities. You didn't limit your help to them, you also passed on advice and insight to elven cities, and the wise ones residing there. As for the dragons, you kept your distance.
Anak Arow garnered your disdain and contempt, you confronted the Dragon royalty after your greiving, telling them the result of the prince's actions. As much as they tried not to offend you, they didn't see any harm in what he had done. So you gave them a prophecy, Anak Arow will die in suffering, despair and agony, and it will be brought on entirely by his own fury and arrogance.
Even that couldn't dispell your pain.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You heard how the humans aquired something dark and preverse. Sol Regum had gotten involved and was blinded, crippled, and apparently he also lost his mate. This seemed too convient.
As well, humans were content enough with primal magics, some even forging their own connections. Why would they seek out the destruction of magical creatures, just to aquire power they already obtained? Morever, how would they discover that the power within others could be taken and used? There was one you knew who understood all magics, even the deep and dangerous kind. You never thought he would share it with humanity. You thought maybe it wasn't him. You were hoping it wasn't.
Eventually the unicorns were all but wiped out and the continent was split. You could not ignore this any longer. As you two had barely spoke, you still knew how to find each other. You confronted him.
"Were you the one who did this? Did you teach the humans this magic?"
"They would have discovered it on their own, I just sped up the process."
"It was you, the unicorns are near dead, and it is your doing." You were in shock.
"Why would you do this? The humans were content enough with the primal secrets given to them, they could survive."
"They would not thrive. With this power they can stand on their own easily, they would not be threatened by those who look down on them."
"They are feared, the elves and dragons are disgusted by them; the whole race is being prosecuted when many of them are innocent."
"They are innocent, they only seek to help their people."
"You've taught them to murder for power. You've corrupted them. Murder is something that eats away at the spirit; even using what has been murdered for power...it's vile."
"It's what the humans need." You could not look at him.
"You were beautiful once...the humans can still be beautiful. This...is not beautiful. You wish for humans to have power over elves and dragons, with a power that can wipe them out. This is not the world our daughter wanted."
"No, this is the world the stars asked for when they murdered her."
"You rather give them what they expect, instead of trying to prove them wrong. Prove that humans having magic is no threat, instead you prove them right...you prove that our daughter's murder was justified." You could not help but cry.
"It will never be justified. They murdered an innocent child."
"What murder will this wrought? Too much to count." There was silence. "I will not go against you, as that would make Leola sad to know her parents are fighting each other, but I cannot stand with you."
He was not the elf you loved, even if you loved him still. He was not the father Leola loved. This was a stranger, a monster wracked with grief.
Before Xadia was truly split, you asked those at the Moon Nexus to let you see your child. You longed for her in those trying times. They warned you of the danger, that you could be lost. You didn't care, if you were you'd at least be with your daughter.
How could you face her though, her mother who failed to protect her? Seeing her again, you could not stop your tears. You apologized profusely. You expressed your desire to not leave her side. She was happy to see you, she still loved you.
"Mommy, please help Daddy. He is lost."
You still had a reason to live. So you agreed. How could save him without standing against him?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Luna Tenebris died you knew it was him, just as you knew it was him when Adititi disappeared. The elves and dragons went to war and threatened to destroy each other. It seemed Aaravos wished to destroy all of Xadia. There was an orphan, who wished to investigate the Chaos. She was tenacious, but she had a good heart. You presented her with Aaravos' key, it opened a book of power, but could also detect when power was near.
"To know what happened, you must know where it came from." That was all you told her. The Orphan found the source to be from the stars and travelled to the far north to determine who it could be, as they knew everything about the stars. They informed her only the Midnight Star was capable of such feats, as all the power was his to know. They gifted her with the Novablade, so she could deal with this Fallen star. She approached the Dragons, and told them of his treachery. That's when you approached her again.
She sought to slay the threat, you had to inform her that would not work.
"After a star's body is slain, their essence retreats to the heavens and they reforge their form when the stars align again."
"There has to be some way to kill him."
"The only way a startouch elf can be killed is when they are in the heavens, their star would be forced to fall to earth, but only startouch elves may enter the heavens, it's not for mortals to tread."
"You knew it was Aaravos when you talked with me before, didn't you?"
"There isn't much I don't know."
"Then why not just reveal what you knew?"
"It's not my destiny to reveal the truth."
"You know him don't you." This made you freeze in your pacing.
"The cube, it glows with the same power around you as it does him. You're of his kin...one of the great ones." She could see your eyes now had an intense hatred inside of them.
"That is technically true."
"Then you could deal with him, if only a startouch elf can kill one."
"Even if I chose to help you, it is for nought. We must be in the heavens to end his life, and neither him nor I will step foot there."
"Why not?" You turned to her sharply, your eyes were filled with hatred and anger, but also saddness and grief.
"We wish not to have anything more to do with them!"
"How can we stop him then?" You softened. She generally cared for everyone around her and wished for peace, a world that Leola wished for.
"Not easily. He can forsee the future if he knows what to look for, and has the power of all sources. If you let him, he will continue to unleash chaos upon the land. For starters, you must not let him know what you know, act as though you are unaware. Then, you must trap his essence. He could go anywhere he pleases such is his power, but to trap his essence, his power would be limited. He would still have power regardless, so no one can know his location, or else he will get them to free him."
So she forged alliances, the dragons, elves and humans together worked together to forge his prison, with special mention to the human mage known as the jailer. The orphan sought my help, one final key to stopping Aaravos.
"You know where he will be, you could help us trap him." You sighed.
"If I do this, there is no going back for me." The Orphan was confused, but you agreed. You told her of where you could find the most opportune time to trap him, and agreed to distract him so it could happen. This would be a betrayal to him, but he had already betrayed you when he lost sight of himself.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What do you hope to gain from having Xadia detroy itself?" You asked him one day.
"Why do you assume that's my goal?" You gave him an incredulous look.
"The elves and dragons are at war with each other. They seek to destroy each other, similar to the use of dark magic, destroying the magical folk. I know you well, Aaravos." He chuckled. "What do you hope to gain? All of this is chaos."
"That's the point of all of this. The cosmic order believes humans having magic would bring chaos and destruction, so that's what it's getting."
"You wish to play into the destiny that is written, instead of writing a different story."
"Do not tell me you are defending the cosmic order, the very thing that issued our daughter to death."
"You seek to destroy it, but what else would you destroy in your path? I agree it is cruel, to condemn a child who meant no harm, but cruelty will be ended with love, not more cruelty!"
"You wish to show love and mercy upon those who haevn't had enough cruelty thrust upon them to know our pain. They deserve to suffer as we have. As I continue to suffer."
"Do not mistake my inaction as apathy, Aaravos! Who cried that ocean with you!? Who stayed by your side the entire 100 years and wept with you over what we lost!? I want nothing more to do with the stars and if I never see them again it would be too soon! That does not justify vengeance, Leola would not have wished it."
"Maybe not, but Leola is gone due to the cruelty of the world, so I must be cruel in return."
"I really hope you can come to your senses, Aaravos and see what our daughter truly desired." Aaravos was then trapped. Your eyes gazed at him with tears. You've truly lost everything now. Aaravos' eyes see you as just another traitor. How could you face him again? The jailor would hide the prison, and then hide herself until the day she died, all so no one could know where he was.
It's a sad irony that he was placed in your daughter's grave, but maybe being closer to her would remind him of who she was and what she would want.

Aeon Headcanons because i have many thoughts about them
-Yaoshi is vain as shit. Particularly about their mission and Path.
-Lan is one of the Aeons who has a more favorable opinion on humans and mortals. They don’t bother mortals much but will jump to their defense.
-Nanook despises everything and has made several attempts to break Qlipoth’s wall, all of course ending in failure and a very angry rock-god.
-Yaoshi’s extremely obsessed with Lan. The obsession began when Lan first started hunting their beautiful creations and gifts. Is mad at Lan for taking a vast majority of their old followers (Xianzhou Alliance) and makes it a point to slander Lan any chance they get.
-“I hate Lan.” Yaoshi says, as they hang numerous pictures of Lan on their wall.
-Qilpoth is the tired dad of Aeons. Xipe is the mother.
-Nanook was once human, was crossed by the humans and made it their life mission to destroy every single trace of humanity from the universe. From then on they became an Aeon due to their immense desire for humanity’s death.
-Yaoshi and Lan are like divorced parents, enemies to lovers, and Lan took the kids.
-Nous and IX are surprisingly good friends, or at the very least in each other’s good spirits.
-Nous is that one friend that says “i know” to everything you say.
-Ouroboros and Nanook are also kinda ok with each other? They both strive to destroy everything but that’s also why they’re a little hostile to the other. Rivals?
-Nanook is that feral little child that everyone hates.
-Fuli likes to watch human memories like telenovelas.
-Yaoshi isn’t actually that bad. They wish to spread eternal life and, yes, their means of accomplishing that are twisted but their looking for those select few mortals who would push through the ugly to get to the beautiful. So far no luck, but Yaoshi will continue to hope.
-Akivili and Qlipoth were the oldest Aeons before Akivili’s disappearance. They were buddies.
-Qlipoth knows of the Sky People for HI3 and they are one of the many other possible threats that inspired Qlipoth to build.
-Qlipoth knows or at least has an inkling of the existence of the Imaginary Tree. Perhaps they strive to protect their universe from others…
-Aha most definitely is self-aware. Definitely knows about alternative universes and Imaginary Tree, not that the others will listen to them.
-IX is the quiet kid in the back of the class that always has an AK in their bag.
-IX is just a little baby and almost all Aeon’s agree that IX should be protected despite knowing that IX could easily eradicate everything that comes against them.
-Nous has movies. They like movies.
-Nous does not have information on Welt Yang or Void Archives. They are out of Nous’ reach of knowledge due to them being not of this universe. Nous has acknowledged both of their existences to be a challenge.
-Lan’s body is literally just a fancy horse. Horse anatomy. Centaur mf.
-Xipe has a very positive opinion of mortals. They love them little things.
-Usually the one the Aeons go to when a dispute happens is Xipe due to their Path and their indifferent personality.
-Mythus is the weird uncle that everyone has a love-hate relationship with.
-Ouroboros will gnaw on other Aeons if given the chance. Nanook is usually the victim.
-Yaoshi has this big ass tree surrounded by a golden sea of energy. This tree is how they spread their Path’s ideology. Seeds and fruits of this tree are the basis of the Xianzhou’s mara. The tree is covered in little cocoons that hold the bodies of those inflicted with Yaoshi’s gift and failed Yaoshi’s trail.
-All the Aeons are one big dysfunctional family and when placed in the same room it’s just chaos.
