— OPEN STARTER
location: Animal Acres
"Olaf, get back here!" Jemma shouted, fully aware it'll attract unnecessary attention towards her. But what else could she do when the sneaky pup had taken advantage of the single second she'd let her guard down. Bringing him along was a bad idea, she knew it the second she'd put that leash on him. She knew exactly how overly excited the pup would get around so many people and other animals yet she'd seen it as the perfect opportunity to work on his obidience. But it turned out the joke was on her since she was the one to learn her lesson. "I'm sorry," she was almost out of breath by the time she caught up to the naughty pup. "Did he destroy anything of yours already?"

"I know art is supposed to make you feel all sorts of euphoric shit but," Rhys paused to take a sip of his drink. "All this is makin' me feel is broke." he pointed his coffee cup towards the price on one of the paintings, which made his heart fall through to the floor. "Kinda makes me want to take some shrooms, paint somethin', and see how much I could sell it for as art." he mused for a moment.

OPEN STARTER
Location: Animal Acres (3/4)
He stood back, watching his nephews with a fond smile as they fed the goats at Ocean Bounty Bazaar. The annual event always brought the community together in such a wonderful way. Peering over at the person beside him, Kian remarked, "I'm really glad they do this once a year. It's the best way to get families together, don't you think?" His eyes crinkled at the corners as his smile widened. "The kids love it. Hell, I think I love it just as much," he added with a chuckle, turning his attention back to his nephews who were giggling as the goats ate from their hands.

OPEN STARTER
Location: Food Truck Rodeo (3/4)
Peering around at the bustling food truck rodeo, Axel took in the sights and smells. The field was covered with food trucks and people enjoying the different cuisines. As he waited in line, his impatience grew with each passing minute. He tapped his foot, checking his watch again. "Are these things always this packed?" he asked the person in front of him.

Hazal liked volunteering when she could find the time, today she was helping kids with the kite making for the springtide bash. The girl she was helping was adorable. While focusing, her tongue poked out adorably as she tried to keep the scissors steady. It took a few minutes of her turning her back to help another kid, when she felt the hem of her sundress being tugged. The young girl had lost her scissors and needed a replacement. She scanned the crowded crafting tables and spotted an extra pair of scissors nearby. Catching the eye of the stranger sitting there, she gave them a smile. "Excuse me, would you mind if I borrowed those scissors for a minute?"

OPEN STARTER
Location: Starlight Viewing Party (2/4)
After setting up his telescope, Irza looked around and watched the person next to him struggle with their telescope. At first, he let them be, but after witnessing them fiddling with the knobs and dials for the past five minutes—growing more and more frustrated by the second—he decided to help out. "Here, let me take a look." After leveling the telescope, he peered through the eyepiece and made a few adjustments before stepping back. "There we go. You should be able to see the stars now."

idle time is the devil's plaything. those were his therapist's words and although he could make complete sense of them, there's no indisputable guide to keep his mind clear and his impulses under control. he opened a club, remained sober, and yet there's something about being in a beautiful town with no actual friends that drives him right back to the precarious position of overthinking and overanalyzing everything around him. then comes the temptation; the temptation to drink, the temptation to let loose and escape.
attending the 'springtide bash' was meant to do just that. The art displayed around the gallery was like a vacation; a place he could safely travel into the dreams of others. he could experience their desire, fear, love, and their heartbreak. or maybe those interpretations were just projections of his own feelings. perhaps the lone sailboat on a stretch of dark water meant the artist enjoyed being by himself and longed for the quiet. to him, it felt lonely, isolated, and pushed away.
maybe having a drink wouldn't be so bad...
his lapse in judgement was momentarily distracted by another's company. "are you a fan of art or are you just bored like me?"

Back when Samira was childless in San Francisco, she'd been very immersed in the art scene there but had lost touch once the responsibilities of her daughter had become her priority. But now that Maya was older and they were living in a brand new place, Samira was trying to return back to some of the old hobbies she loved once upon a time. She noted a familiar face staring at one of the paintings and made her way over there, taking a sip from her drink before she spoke up. "So--what's your opinion on this modern interpretation of Monet?" Did she sound slightly pretentious, maybe--but she'd just glanced at the little description in front of the painting.

Rhys had very little intention of avoiding Samira, especially now he knew that she was living in Wilmington, instead of her presence being some fleeting visit. If anything, he knew that avoiding her would likely make things more awkward. And for both of their sakes, they needed to know how to live amongst and around one another for their own sanity.
He had spotted Maya before Samira, who was stood a few feet away from the kids table, keeping a watchful eye on her daughter. With purpose, he strode towards Samira, pausing once he was stood beside her, clearing his throat gently. "It looks like Maya is settling in well." he commented, his eyes following her as she laughed and giggled along with the other children working on their kites.

Kian rolled his eyes at Armi, a chuckle spilling free. "You're a menace is what you are." There was no bite to his remark of course. If anything, he was amused at how easily she was able to manipulate him into seeing things her way. He smiled as she reveled in her victory—her infectious enthusiasm making it impossible to feel annoyed. "You really are going to rub it in, aren’t you?" he asked, his head shaking. "I'm a man of my word, so consider Jax officially part of the family." He held the squirming puppy and felt genuine happiness filling him. When was the last time he’d felt this happy? Too long ago in his opinion. But as he looked down at Jax's innocent face, he felt utter contentment. Maybe this little guy was exactly what he needed to start healing.
“I appreciate the vote of confidence in my name choice. Kian and Jax, the dynamic duo." It had a nice ring to it. "Sure… Just a happy coincidence that you had all the answers ready to go." The brat… "Oh please, you really think I’m going to let that happen? Your brother would kill me if I let those teeth of yours get ruined. Besides, I wouldn’t want you to lose the ability to use that devious smile of yours to manipulate people." He gave her a look that dared her to say otherwise. Locking up, he stepped towards the attached garage and looked over as if she’d lost her damned mind. "Rock, paper, scissors? What are we, twelve? You can drive,” he tossed her the keys to his SUV, shifting Jax a little in his arms. “Just be careful. Don’t drive like a maniac.”
His breath caught when she stepped closer, reaching out to play with Jax. He suddenly found himself acutely aware of her proximity. She was so close he could catch the scent of her shampoo, feel the warmth radiating from her skin. For a moment, his attention was completely drawn to her and how attractive she looked. The spell was broken when she pulled back. Clearing his throat, he nodded. "Yeah, uh, driving sounds good. And I vote for that local pet store. I like supporting small businesses when I can." He hoped she couldn't hear the slight tremor in his voice, the way his pulse was still racing from their brief moment of closeness. "Lead the way, captain."
"Naturally." She mused, a devious smirk upon her features as she flipped part of her hair back. Feeling rather victorious. "I'm aware. That's why I'm so cocky right now. I just made a big win here, Lawson. How could I not?" It was truly a victory here, and they both knew it. So, of course, she was gonna revel in it. She playfully smacked his shoulder, "I won't hold it over your head for too long, Ki. Don't worry." Possibly just for the next year or so.
"You won't regret it!" She assured, "Plus, I'm the best at plans, so of course, this was genius." After all, what gave better love then a pet? Heck, Stormi was perfect for cuddles and extra dosage of love when she needed it. So, she had no doubt that this new puppy would do the same for Kian. Armi looked down at the little ball of fur, and smiled, "Jax -- I like it." She nodded, "Kian and Jax." She looks over at Kian, "Rolls off the tongue and everything." When he questioned this being a set up, she shrugged, "Don't know what you're talking about." She lied, "I think it's just good to be prepared." She playfully rolled her eyes, "If I must, but just know -- I'm a one time kind of person. I don't do multiple trips to the car. So," She pointed a finger at him, "No making fun of me if you see me holding things with my teeth and what not."
Making her way towards the door, "Born ready. Who's driving? Should we rock, paper, scissors?" She teased, "Because whoever isn't gets to hold this cute little baby." She closed the space between her and Kian, reaching close in to rough house with the pup in his arm. She hadn't realized how close she had come to Kian. Her face seemed to be mere inches from his. Once she looked up, and noticed that, the smile faded slightly, as brown eyes studied his face. They dropped down to his lips, and immediately, she jumped back. "Maybe I should drive." She statement, instead. "Pet Land? Pet Co? That local pet store down by the bakery?"

"I'm leavin'." Rhys grumbled as he pushed past his best friend, keeping his head down in the worried and panicked crowd. The announcement had come out of the blue, the flurry of information the anonymous voice had spewed had sowed seeds of doubt amongst the crowds and already he could feel eyes on him. "Listen I'm fine, alright?" his hand hurriedly dug for his car keys in his pocket. "I just don't need this shit. I'm fine."

He frowned slightly, considering Jake's words. "Yeah, I guess it could be something like that. But why target my uncle specifically? And bringing up something from 30 years ago?" Kian shook his head, still trying to make sense of it all. Uncle Abraham was a good guy, he couldn’t see the old man harming a fly, let alone be planning a mayor’s demise. "I don't know, man. It just feels like there's more to this than someone trying to stir up trouble." Running a hand through his hair, he sighed. "You're right, though. I need answers. I can't just sit here and let my uncle's name get dragged through the mud without knowing the full story." His mind raced with the possibilities of what this could mean for his family. "I appreciate you trying to downplay it, but this is serious. If there's even a shred of truth to these accusations…" He trailed off, not wanting to consider the implications. "I trust my uncle, I do. But I also can't ignore something like this. What would you do in my situation?"
Truthfully, Jake couldn't blame Kian and his stunned reaction. If he were in the other man's position he wouldn't know what to think either. And Jake Randall had been in some serious compromising positions in the past. "Could just be something to rattle some cages and ruffle some feathers," he suggested and shrugged nonchalantly. Purposefully downplaying the severity to not make matters worse with dramatics. Plus, if he could nab any morsel of information it was best to keep cool. "It's not the way I had done things in the past, but think it of it as a glaring headline... gets people on their toes." Though, they seemed to be very specific toes someone was trying to step on. "No, I haven't," Jake admitted. However, he had been guilty of doing something terrible. Or, maybe not. It was something he still wrestled with daily. "If you're asking personally, then I would process it by getting some answers. Especially because it could affect you too."

Jemma studied the painting for a moment. "It looks to me that the artist really tried to put out all of their frustration on this canvas." In her head she could imagine them splashing colors onto it then giving those colorful splashes shapes and forms by swirling the brush back and forth until they were satisfied with the end result. "What about you? Do you see something different?"

Mahira tilted her head as she studied the abstract painting, trying to decipher its meaning. The swirls of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes seemed to dance across the canvas. What it all meant was lost to her. She turned to the person standing beside her, a curious smile playing on her lips. "What do you think this is supposed to represent?" she asked. She was here in support of her sister and since Sara mingled with the other guests, she was left alone.

Jemma simply nodded, silently agreeing with Chloe. Every town had its own thing, for Wilmington it was the Spring Bash, which caused people to leave the comfort of their homes and gather together, for old friends to meet and catch up and for new friendships to be created. It was a nice tradition she was glad to see keep going strong. "We haven't made any family plans, but I'm assuming so, too. They've been begging for a pet, so this is a nice alternative that Sloane can offer them as long as they don't start asking for a goat." She chuckled at the idea, though she wouldn't be surprised if it came true. "Did you check out any of yesterdays's spots, too?"
Why was it so awkward talking to her exes family? It wasn't as if they, themselves, were her ex. They were just associated with said ex. And it wasn't like Chloe did something terrible for the relationship to end. So, why did she feel like she was trail in their presences? She gave her best smile, "Yeah, I get that. It's something to do, you know?" She commented, "The food is good, and it's never bad to watch other people enjoy themselves." She chewed on her bottom lip, "And yes! He's here. He's with my dad and my step mom right now. But he's over the moon. I'm assuming your nephews are also here?"

Was he really being that obvious? Axel shrugged his shoulders—trying to appear nonchalant even as his mind raced. "Look, man, I'm not being defensive. I just don't like people making assumptions about my relationships," he said, aiming for a casual tone but pretty sure he was missing by a mile. The idea of Nik setting Shivani up with one of his buddies made something twist uncomfortably in Axel's gut. He tried to push the feeling aside, but it clung to him like a bad smell. "Set her up with your buddy?" he asked, unable to keep the edge out of his voice. "I mean, she’s a grown woman. She can date whoever she wants. It's not like I have any say in the matter. But how would you know they’d even get along?" But even as the words left his mouth, he knew they weren't entirely true. The thought of Shivi with someone else made him want to punch something. Or someone. Preferably this nosy guy in front of him.
When the man pointed out Shivani in the crowd, his head whipped around so fast he nearly gave himself whiplash. His eyes scanned the area eagerly, heart pounding. But there was no sign of her. This asshole. Realizing he'd been played, he turned back to the other with a scowl. "Very funny," he muttered, feeling like an idiot for falling for such an obvious trick. "Look, I don't know what game you're playing here, but I'm not interested. Shivani and I are friends.” he winced at the description, “That's all there is to it." But even as he said it, a little voice in the back of his mind whispered, 'Liar.' He thought about the kiss they'd shared recently, how it had left him feeling confused and exhilarated all at once. Maybe there was something more there. Maybe he was just too scared to admit it. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he fixed the man with a stern look. "How about we change the subject? Unless you want to keep playing amateur matchmaker all night."
“Am I? Reading too much into the situation? I think I could be, but I also think there’s no way you’d be this defensive if there wasn’t something there.” Nikhil felt this way because if anyone made the moves on his ‘wife’ he’d be concerned if the guy was a decent guy but other than that—he knew very well that Asha had a good head on her shoulders and would be able to make her decisions for herself. But this guy—Axel was pretty much stopping Nik in his tracks entirely, not even trying to get to know him, just plain old shutting him down. It amused him for sure and he just nodded at the other’s words. “Sure—good friends.”
He wasn’t normally of the mindset that a male and female couldn’t be friends. How could he be when that’s exactly what he and Asha were? But there was something more between these two, and he’d seen that spark even when they'd come to the dressing room after the cricket match. “Ah well I’m normally a great judge of character Axel, so I’m just curious to see if you two moved ahead beyond the friendship I witnessed that last time we met. Or maybe I’m looking to set her up with a buddy of mine? The possibilities are truly endless you know?” He grinned at Axel, well aware that this man was not going to be admitting anything to him any time soon.”But sure—you look out for her all you want. Hey—isn’t that her just over there?” He pointed in the direction of one of the other food trucks, eager to see the way Axel’s expression changed.
