Rachel had admittedly been suspicious when so many members of the Titans had joined the New Directions. She'd seen High School Musical. She knew that sports and the arts didn't usually mix. Their being in the same group as some of the most bullied students at McKinley had felt like an odd choice, a trap of sorts. And yet, it had become very apparent in the past few weeks that she'd been worried for nothing. Some of the Titans had been the most dedicated members of the team thus far.

Sam Evans, for example. A nice guy with an equally as pleasant voice and a willingness to jump in with the choreography. She'd been against his addition of a body roll, of course, but it had all worked out in the end.

Which was why she didn’t hesitate to launch into a conversation at the party, a quick "Sam," accompanied by a nod before she continued. "I'm attempting to be more collaborative as we head into Sectionals. Is there a particular genre or artist that you'd like under consideration?"

Nick hadn't been prepared to see Madison McCarthy, of Texas Cheer fame, at the last party he'd been dragged to. A fixture of his sister's competitions back in high school, he'd only spoken to her once or twice back in the day. But those few times... they'd been impactful. Enough for him to have found the days spent watching death defying stunt after stunt less tedious. For him to look forward to some of the meets, honestly. But nothing had ever come from it.

Except some inconvenient feelings.

And the music.

He'd never really known her, but in his years of nonstop inspiration... well, a song or two had resulted from their brief collisions. And maybe one of those songs had gone on to win an award. And maybe variations had popped up in the years since. But he'd always assumed that everything he'd once felt had been diluted over time.

One look at a now blonde-haired (??) and purple-draped (!!!) Madison at Sebastian's Monte Carlo party, though, and he was right back in it. And just as unprepared to talk to her as he'd always been.

"Hey," he tried once he'd finally worked up the courage to go over to her. "I like your dress. It's very... Monte Carlo."

They'd only been at Sebastian's party for a little bit, but already Dottie was overwhelmed by the extravagance. The suits, the gowns, the fact that it was at a country club. It was almost the complete opposite of her birthday party from just a few weeks prior.

And that got Dottie thinking.

Madison was a planner, so even though her birthday wasn't coming around again for quite some time, they should probably start to brainstorm, right?

"We should start thinking about what your birthday party will be like," she suggested as they began a lap around the room. "Do you think you'll lean more towards the vibes of my party or this one? You only turn 21 once."

Rachel wasn't yet completely comfortable with just starting a conversation with Puck.

They'd known each other when they were younger, of course, but that had been a long time ago. In the years since, they'd gone on to occupy vastly different levels of the school food chain - the slushiers versus the slushied. And the boundaries between those groups hadn't been crossed... until the New Directions. She'd been meaning to ask him why he joined, to begin bridging the gap and working towards something of a friendship, but she'd not yet worked out how to start.

So in the middle of Sebastian's birthday, waiting for her mocktail at the bar, she instead went with the most obvious opening question.

"How's business?" she tossed out.

Rachel hated that she was asking, but it was more with the hope that he'd share that it was bad. It was November, after all. And there were only so many MILFs in the area.
