The Role of a Wedding DJ in Making Your Reception Memorable
Tumblr media
The wedding reception is the highlight of any wedding day. It's the time for the newlyweds and their guests to let loose, dance, and celebrate the joyous occasion. And while the wedding venue, décor, and food are all important elements in creating a memorable wedding reception, the role of a wedding DJ is equally crucial.
A wedding DJ is responsible for setting the tone and atmosphere of the wedding reception. They keep the energy high, create a fun and entertaining environment, and ensure that the dance floor stays full throughout the night. A professional wedding DJ has the ability to read the crowd and adjust the music selection accordingly to keep everyone engaged and entertained.
The wedding DJ typically plays a variety of music genres to cater to all guests. This includes current hits, classic wedding songs, and even traditional music for cultural or religious ceremonies. They also help the bride and groom choose the perfect first dance song and other special dances such as the father-daughter and mother-son dances.
The wedding DJ is also responsible for making announcements throughout the reception. They keep the guests informed of important events such as cake cutting, bouquet tossing, and garter removal. They also work closely with the wedding planner and other vendors to ensure that everything runs smoothly and according to schedule.
But the role of a wedding DJ goes beyond just playing music and making announcements. They are also responsible for creating a personalized and unique experience for the bride and groom and their guests. A skilled wedding DJ will take the time to get to know the couple's music tastes, personalities, and wedding theme, and incorporate these elements into the music selection and overall vibe of the reception.
One way that a wedding DJ can make a reception memorable is by creating a customized playlist. This means working with the couple to select songs that are meaningful to them, or have a special place in their relationship. This personalized playlist not only creates a unique atmosphere for the reception, but it also helps to create lasting memories for the couple and their guests.
Another way that a wedding DJ can make a reception memorable is by incorporating fun and interactive elements into the music selection. This could include playing games or having dance-offs to get everyone involved and having fun. A skilled DJ can also mix songs seamlessly, creating a continuous flow of music that keeps the dance floor packed all night long.
In addition, a wedding DJ can help to create a memorable reception by providing high-quality equipment and sound. A professional DJ will have top-of-the-line speakers, lighting, and other equipment to create a stunning visual and audio experience for guests. They will also have backup equipment in case of any technical difficulties.
When hiring a wedding DJ, it's important to choose a professional who has experience working with weddings. They should have a portfolio of previous events they have worked on, and be able to provide references from past clients. It's also important to have clear communication with the DJ leading up to the wedding day, so that they have a clear understanding of your expectations and preferences.
In conclusion, the role of a wedding DJ is integral to creating a memorable wedding reception. They set the tone and atmosphere of the event, create a personalized experience for the couple and their guests, and ensure that everyone has a great time on the dance floor. By working with a professional wedding DJ, couples can rest assured that their reception will be a fun, unforgettable celebration of their love.

Some suggestions for experimenting with Jewish practice and experiencing Jewish culture
Tumblr media
Observe one full Shabbat. For 25 hours, do no work- not even the laundry. Attend services, read and relax, but don't go shopping or cook. If you have children, do something fun together as a family on Saturday afternoon.
Attend a synagogue-sponsored retreat for a sense of what a complete communal day of rest can be.
Try to keep kosher in a basic way for a month as a way to infuse one of the most basic of human needs with Jewish content. At home and when you eat out, avoid all shellfish and pork products, don't mix meat and milk, read the labels in the supermarket and don't buy foods prepared with lard.
Plan and host a holiday celebration.
Go shopping in a kosher food store and Jewish bookstore.
Attend Jewish theater performances, Jewish choral groups, shows by touring Israeli pop stars.
Tour the local Jewish community center (JCC).
Attend an Israel Independence Day celebration.
If you are a member of a congregation, get involved in a congregational program or two. Attend an adult education class or sisterhood events. Volunteer for committee work.
Include Jewish tours and expeditions while on vacation or business trips. In New York City, visit the lower east side, the Jewish Museum and Ellis Island. In Washington go to the Holocaust Museum. In Rome, visit the ancient Jewish ghetto. Whether you find yourself in Baltimore or Bombay, try to find the oldest Synagogue in the city, or makes a pilgrimage to the best Jewish deli. If you're in a strange city on Shabbat, go to services at a local synagogue.

Are the Democrats trying to assassinate President Trump, or are they just rooting for it?
Shortly after Donald Trump was inaugurated after the 2016 election, a so-called comedienne posted a picture of herself holding Trump’s severed, bloodied head. That apparently passes for comedy among Democrats.
Tumblr media
In a presentation of Julius Caesar in the venerable Shakespeare in the Park production in New York City a few months later, a likeness of Trump was cast in the role of Caesar. I don’t need to remind you what happens to Caesar in the end.
Tumblr media
The violent rhetoric from Democrats just keeps on coming, through Trump’s first term, into this year’s re-election campaign, and right up to weeks before the election. And now, it’s predictably escalating from violent rhetoric and into violent acts.
A month ago, a would-be assassin missed Trump’s cranium by a quarter-inch with a bullet from an AR-15, only because Trump luckily turned at the last possible second. It came out that the Trump campaign had requested beefed-up security prior to the incident, and the White House had denied his request.
The Secret Service at the time was headed by a DEI hire, and the agents at the event were test-failing amateurs. They allowed the shooter within 130 yards of Trump on an unsecured rooftop. Even after they saw him there, with a gun, they failed to take him out and failed to alert Trump or his staff until he’d fired eight shots, killing one man, seriously wounding another, and grazing Trump’s ear.
In an apparent admission of near-lethal negligence by the Service, five agents were later suspended.
Their replacements seem not much better. In yesterday’s attempt, a Democrat donor got within easy range of Trump on a golf course with a rifle equipped with a high-powered scope. The shooter was wearing a Go-Pro, apparently to post his assassination on YouTube where Democrats everywhere could cheer it. He was thwarted only because he was foolish enough to poke his rifle out of the bushes, where an agent happened to see it.
The shooter had been on the golf course for at least 12 hours. One must wonder, how did he know Trump’s golfing schedule at least 12 hours in advance?
Even now, after two assassination attempts that missed due only to incredible luck or Providence, President Trump is not afforded the level of protection that President Biden or even Vice President Harris receives.
Most recently, President Doofus again falsely accused Trump of saying that neo-Nazis are “fine people” even though that accusation has been thoroughly debunked even by leftist fact-checkers.
Kamala Harris repeated the lie in her debate with Trump – and was not corrected by the moderators even though the moderators purported to correct at least seven Trump statements (some of which were not factual claims, but mere opinions).
You might think the mainstream media would condemn these assassination attempts in the strongest words possible. But if you do think that, then you haven’t been paying attention to the mainstream media for the last ten years.
The mainstream media is implying – no, they’re outright stating – that Trump has all this coming because he’s a Republican who says nasty things. The Washington Post has already dismissed the assassination attempt and has framed it instead as Trump unfairly capitalizing on the incident politically.
The media take their cue from Biden and Harris. They routinely equate Trump with Adolf Hitler, the mass murderer of millions.
The Democrats let their rank and file connect the dots: Everyone has been taught, correctly, that killing Hitler would have been a heroic act that would have saved millions. So, the Democrats don’t exactly say “kill Trump” but they do suggest you’d be a hero if you did.

Armchair
c.1875-1876
Pottier and Stymus Manufacturing Company
This armchair, along with a matching side chair and cabinet, was made for Pottier and Stymus’ display at the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia. This seminal event offered unprecedented exposure to potential patrons and sparked the nation’s preference for the Aesthetic style. Founding partner Auguste Pottier then donated the pieces to the Metropolitan Museum as examples of distinguished contemporary craftsmanship.
During the late 1870s and early 1880s, New York City emerged as the center for the production of luxury furniture, interior woodwork, and decoration. Companies including George A. Schastey & Co., Herter Brothers, Pottier and Stymus Manufacturing Company, and Herts Brothers flourished during this period of unparalleled financial growth. With showrooms and manufactories located in the city’s thriving commercial district at Union Square, they received commissions from wealthy financiers and railroad magnates in New York City and across the country for custom-made furnishings. These full-service firms depended on the skills of highly trained émigré craftsmen, many of whom had fled political strife and economic hardship in regions that compose modern-day France and Germany.

Cozy Corner Domaystic prompt #24: OCD
Homelander, Billy Butcher. Gen coparenting. Or gen as far as we know. AO3 link.
Tumblr media
Art by @maxkennedy24 . Commission them! 😊 They’ve put up with some bizarre requests from me, including this one.
Butcher hears cursing under his breath before the vacuum powers on. Somehow he doubts this supe cunt has vacuumed a day in his life before he got a roommate he never asked for.
The New York City Family Court awarded Butcher joint custody of Ryan after a DNA test. Homelander is still appealing the ruling, and cited Butcher’s apartment as ‘completely uninhabitable for a child’ in the course of his complaint. He probably didn’t expect Butcher to shrug and say he’d move in if that’s what Homelander really wanted. And he probably didn’t foresee Butcher getting the chance to make his life miserable by refusing to move into a neighboring Vought apartment, and Stan Edgar authorizing all of it with a sadistic twinkle in his eye because he seems to have it out for his top product.
Homelander is so mortified by the turn of events that he won’t even call in housekeeping on the days when Butcher stays there. He doesn’t want anyone witnessing this, apparently.
Butcher takes another drag of his cigarette and taps it to have ash fall on the floor.
“CAN YOU JUST-“ Homelander explodes but then catches himself and bites his tongue.
“Just what,” Butcher asks rhetorically, not looking up from his phone.
“Nothing. I was going to ask you to get your ass off the couch and clean up your mess. Ryan’s coming back up here soon from his lessons. I thought maybe you’d feel at least a smidgen ashamed of all this.” Homelander points at the open, not-all-finished-off beer bottles on the floor.
“Lucky for me this apartment comes with maid service.” Butcher chuckles as Homelander sighs and lifts up the entire couch to vacuum under it more easily.
“I know you don’t live in a pigsty like this,” he laments. “So I don’t know what you’re trying to prove right now.”
“Oh so you think my apartment is cleaner than yours? Did I hear you correctly?”
“Shut up,” Homelander mutters, but still puts the couch down gingerly, because he doesn’t want to fuck up his shiny lacquered floor.
“It ain’t healthy to get so OCD about minor things.”
“It’s hardly OCD not to want your child tripping over beer bottles and inhaling cigarette fumes!” Homelander mutters as he gathers all the beer bottles, throws them in the recycling bin he’s had to acquire, then thinks better of it and drags the bin outside into the hallway.
“Yeah, that plastic bin don’t really fit in with the rest of the decor in here.”
“More like I don’t want Ryan smelling beer in this apartment.”
Homelander stands there with his arms crossed, waiting for his gaze to be met, but Butcher pointedly pretends not to notice him.
“If I could get rid of things just because they don’t fit with the decor, you’d be the first to go,” Homelander mutters angrily, but then he evidently hears Ryan taking the elevator up and his face instantly transforms into a much happier, tense mask before he whirls around and opens the door to greet him.

Does it feel like Texas is suddenly taking over the national entertainment industry?
Megaproducer Taylor Sheridan – Wind River, Hell or High Water, and now the blockbuster Yellowstone– raised in Fort Worth, is making Western culture popular again and filling rodeo arenas with city folks.
Tumblr media
A new force in streaming and cable
Another Texas-based player may be an even more disruptive force in the U.S. entertainment industry.
Great American Media (GAM) is suddenly an overnight contender in the U.S. streaming and cable television space, winning regular coverage in industry flagships like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, and it has the entertainment industry sitting up and taking notice for its success attracting audiences to faith and family content.
“We’re on our way to being America’s most uplifting and inspiring network,” says CEO Bill Abbott, who founded Great American Media in 2021.
Abbott follows a familiar playbook – his own — perfected over 35 years in family entertainment.
Abbott’s resume includes senior leadership roles at Fox Kids, Fox Family Channel, and ABC Family, plus more than 20 years as the architect of the Hallmark television brands. Now he has launched another TV brand in the burgeoning Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, a big community with small-town sensibilities and a dedicated and talented populace, he says.
As the engineer of the next big thing, Abbott pulled on both experience and his friends, instantly creating a crew of iconic TV stars, including Mario Lopez, Danica McKellar, Cameron Mathison, Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, and, of course, Candace Cameron Bure.
These stars are making an appearance at iconic venues across the nation for spotlight events and movie production. Carlos and Alexa PenaVega spent the day at AT&T Stadium in Dallas – right down the road from the headquarters of Great America Media – filming their upcoming holiday premiere movie. Not only is the AT&T Stadium recognizable by many, but this production further solidifies Abbott’s dedication to creating uplifting, quality content.
Today, his startup boasts over 70 million viewers and subscribers to its cable television channels and streaming service, a remarkable feat in any environment. The last three years have been some of the most tumultuous in television and entertainment history, with a record decline in cable subscribers and increasing competition among streaming services. Yet Great American Media is on the rise.
The success is a testament to early mornings, continual conference calls, coast-to-coast travel, and non-stop team building. Every Friday, Abbott hosts a company-wide review of the market and a company performance where he answers employees’ questions nationwide. One staffer describes it as a master class in cable and streaming television.
Great American Media’s Fort Worth headquarters includes production and administrative offices, while its sales and executive offices are in New York. Its member services center, a call center supporting a committed fan base, is in Phoenix.
“One of the most rewarding parts of my jobs is to read viewer emails,” says Abbott, who regularly corresponds with a group of over 25,000 loyal Great American Media Insiders. “Our viewers know what they want and it’s our job to give them a great uplifting experience free of the stress and contentiousness of their already overly complex world.”
Great American Media’s portfolio of brands now includes Great American Family, Great American Pure Flix, Great American Faith & Living, Great American Adventures, and Pure Flix TV.
As the company’s flagship cable TV network, Great American Family, features quality original movies and classic series that are inspiring and emotionally connecting. The business strategy is to align the content and convert cable viewers to streaming subscribers, a riddle many in Hollywood are attempting to solve.
Great American Pure Flix is GAM’s leading subscription on-demand streaming service and the most successful faith-based content provider of its size. A recent Financial Times story described GAM as the Netflix of faith-based content, to which Abbott responds, “Not bad company to be in after only three years.”
Great American Faith & Living features mostly unscripted lifestyle programming that celebrates family-friendly traditions every day and every season.
Great American Media is also home to a FAST (free ad-supporting streaming TV) channel with Great American Adventures, which offers both scripted and unscripted content, including cooking and do-it-yourself programs, and Great American Community, a free direct-to-consumer streaming app featuring short-form original series hosted by well-known lifestyle experts and TV stars. There is also a Pure Flix FAST channel.
“We are creating an oasis in a cultural desert,” says Candace Cameron Bure, star of many Great American Media original programs, including hit My Christmas Hero. She joined Abbott at the film’s screening on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington.
Abbott agrees, saying, “I think that the culture overall needs what we’re offering. And there is just so little content out there that serves family and faith and yet is done in a quality way. It is a very big part of what our mission is and what we do, and the demand is huge.”
Not His First Rodeo
Abbott founded Great American Media in June 2021 with backing from Dallas-based investors, including Dallas businessman Doug Deason. Abbott credits Deason with the company’s steady focus on strategy.
“After running companies that possess varying levels of leadership and judgment exercised at the board and ownership level, I know first-hand that these qualities can make or break a business, and Great American Media’s success starts with Doug in his role as Chairman of the Board,” says Abbott.
Deason, who most recently demonstrated political acumen by leading an initiative to get Texans to set aside $1 billion to expand Texas state parks and co-chaired the expansion of Dallas’ Centennial Parks.
“Without Doug’s unwavering support, vision, and courage, Great American Media would lack the ability to stand firmly behind the values conveyed in our faith and family content,” says Abbott, “and in fact, it’s quite likely the business would never have gotten off the ground.”
Deason credits Abbott, who he points out is unique among broadcasting executives, who more typically are finance types or lawyers and rarely schooled in stories, let alone moral tales. Abbott is an English and Literature graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, a private Jesuit liberal arts college in Worcester, Massachusetts, a foundation he puts to good use by reading every script and participating in creative development with his producers and stars.
Tumblr media
GAM’s CEO is deeply respected in the industry and serves on the boards of the Parents Television & Media Council and the International Radio & Television Society Foundation. He was inducted into Broadcasting & Cable’s Hall of Fame in 2017.
Previously, Abbott served for two decades as a senior executive and then CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, the parent company of Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mystery, Hallmark Drama, and Hallmark Movies Now.
“We had tremendous success with creating a destination that was family-friendly and themed around the holidays,” explains Abbott. He is credited with creating the Christmas television genre, expanding the network’s romantic comedies, and launching its mysteries channel.
After 20 years, Abbott left Hallmark and looked to Texas to build a new network: Great American Family.
“We’re proud to say we celebrate faith, family, and country,” explains Abbott, “and we have an investor group where we all believe in the mission of family-friendly and faith-based content.”
Equipped with funding and a vision, Abbott acquired Fort Worth’s independently owned equestrian and western channel Ride TV and a music video channel called Great American Country from Discovery. This gave his fledgling dream two traditional cable television linear channels. As the company sorted through its inherited programs and shows, Great American Media was quickly rebranded.
“Now we had something to work with, and we went to work,” he explained.
The entertainment world suddenly noticed when the new GAM network acquired Michael Landon Jr.’s When Calls the Heart spin-off, When Hope Calls,” and began hiring the most well-known talent in the genre to appear in its own slate of made-for-TV movies.
GAM also quickly established Great American Christmas premieres and seasonal rotation around Christmas, including 12 original movies in its first year. Now, they’re producing more than 20 original Christmas movies per year.
Dream Streaming
While building a traditional cable offering, Abbott heard from Sony Pictures Entertainment, one of the world’s largest entertainment conglomerates. They owned Pure Flix, a niche faith-based streaming video-on-demand service with a loyal fan base.
“Pure Flix had been sort of under the radar,” explained Abbott. Sony had only recently acquired the streaming service and began looking for a means of growing it. Sony executives saw the synergies between Abbott’s startup, the Great American Family channel, and their streamer and proposed a merger.
The merger enhanced both platforms’ content library and created synergies between cable and streaming services, meeting customer expectations for a fulfilling, uplifting, and inspiring entertainment experience. Since the merger, SVOD subscriptions have increased, and the customer experience has been enhanced through several platform upgrades, making the streaming service intuitive and user-friendly.
“Our brands and diversified content distribution capabilities have helped us reach substantially larger and broader audiences on each platform, creating a family- and faith-friendly streaming service unlike any other,” he added. “Our business strategy is becoming more and more clear to the industry.”
And they’re noticing. Great American Media ncluded 2023 as the fastest-growing channel on cable television, and its ad sales were up 25 percent. Under Abbott’s watchful eye, the economy balances with creative excellence, allowing the GAM channels to increasingly share the same programming vision, creating the brand synergies critical to growth.
Great American Media’s programming and development team steers all original scripts from concept through production with an eye toward brand integrity. Abbott and the leadership team ensure every frame it controls is on brand as promised.
Great American Media has made headlines for the stars it has drawn in its first few years, including Candace Cameron Bure, Danica McKellar, Trevor Donovan, Jill Wagner, Jen Lilley, Cameron Mathison, and Jen Lilley.
In February, Great American Media announced it signed Emmy Award–winning host and actor Mario Lopez to a multi-picture, multi-year deal to star in content across the company’s vast media portfolio. Lopez will be a major part of Great American Christmas 2024. His first film in the partnership will include a holiday film starring alongside his wife and Broadway star Courtney Lopez. Lopez will continue hosting NBC’s Access Hollywood and Access Daily.
Tumblr media
Abbott cites the dedicated Fort Worth team and the talent across Texas as a critical aspect of GAM’s success, noting that programmers and production crews work around the clock and maintain a high commitment to the brand and its viewers.
As conglomerates continue to obliterate brands, Abbott is on a mission to maintain his company’s commitment to bringing high-quality family content with a faith focus to a new heyday.
“We are not replicating the past; we are creating a new bright future, diverse in genre and format, but all wrapped in high-quality family programming that features romantic comedies, Christmas, drama, faith-inspired lifestyles, and even drama series,” says Abbott. Mysteries are now a cornerstone of the broad programming, with Great American Mysteries’ inaugural launch, The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries: A Case for the Winemaker, starring Cameron Bure, premiering on July 25.
“We’re about faith, family, and country,” said Abbott, “and those values can be reflected in uplifting and inspiring ways across all genres, including mysteries.”

Small Party Catering NYC: Steps To Plan Perfect Food For The Event
Tumblr media
Planning the food for a small party can be both exciting and daunting. Whether you’re hosting an intimate dinner for friends or a small business gathering, getting the food right is crucial to the success of your event. In a bustling city like New York, where culinary options are as diverse as its population, small party catering NYC service can help you elevate your event and take the stress out of meal planning. Here’s a comprehensive guide to ensure your event’s food is as unforgettable as the occasion itself.
Define Your Event’s Theme and Audience
To begin with the analysis of your menu, it is crucial to determine its theme and the people it is intended for. Is it a black-tie affair or a barbecue? Knowing the tone of the occasion will help you to determine what sort of meal to prepare and how to plate them.
Formal Dinner: When considering food and beverage choices for the event, select appetizers, meals, and sweets that are appropriate for the formal setting. What about gourmet dishes and traditional recipes?
Casual Gathering: Septic conditions of the ambiance are easier to consume for individuals and require simple food and dishes. Appetizers such as those that can be held with the fingers include fingers, small hamburgers, and dips that can be taken in small portions.
Themed Party: If your event adopts a certain theme like Italian or Mexican, then ensure that this is reflected in the kind of foods you have in your event. Food related to the theme of the event enhances the entire experience and also can create a good topic for discussion.
Establish Your Budget
The act of setting a budget is a crucial factor in the planning process of any event, not just food. This will in turn affect the quality and quantity of food to be bought as well as the small party catering NYC service to be hired.
Food and Beverage: This is charged per head and any extra charges that might be put on certain products.
Service: Depending on the kind of catering service you hire, there is the hiring of wait staff or bartenders which will be charged.
Equipment and Rentals: If you want to get more tables or chairs and dishes for serving then all of these should also be considered.
A realistic budget makes you avoid cases of overspending or straining to attain the quality of the materials or services you need.
Choose the Right Catering Service
There is no shortage of small-party catering services in New York City, but choosing the right service provider may be a challenge. Search for a service provider that focuses on the provision of services for small-scale occasions and has customized options. Here’s what to keep in mind:
Experience: Choose those companies, which have experience in serving people in small parties and gatherings.
Menu Flexibility: Make sure the specific products offered may be changed to fit the specifics of your event and your guests’ requirements.
Reviews and References: Look at the rating of the restaurant and requests from the clients for their experience.
A good and professional catering company will sit with the client and help to select the right menu for the event within the set budget.
Plan a Balanced Menu
A diverse clientele means that a restaurant needs to be able to offer a balanced and variety of meals that at least some of them would fit one’s diet preferences. When planning your menu, consider the following:
Appetizers: For appetizers, offering an assortment of foods that any visitor seeks is recommended. Incorporate vegetarian and gluten-free meals in case not all the guests will be able to take some meals.
Main Courses: Make sure to present a variety of main courses recommended for various types of diets. They should comprise barbeque meats, poultry, fish, and veggies.
Side Dishes: Accompany your principal dishes with a variety of side dishes. Something light and fresh that goes well with the meat is preferred by many guests, so fresh salads and baked vegetables will fit the bill, as would potatoes or rice.
Desserts: Desserts are the last course, which means that there is no other way but to pamper your guests with delicious sweets. Added to this, if the reception will be in the evening, you may want to consider mini pastries, some kind of cake, or a dessert table.
Be sure to offer some lighter items alongside heavier ones so that customers can find a good balance if they wish. This means that the guest is able to have a variety of different foods to choose from ensuring a wholesome dining experience.

If you were to attend the 1939 World’s Fair, you would be greeted with two structures named Trylon and Perisphere. The former was a tall, spire-like structure equipped with what was then the world’s longest escalator. The latter was a humongous sphere. These two modernist structures were the Fair’s mascots.
By stepping into the Peripshere, a new world would be unveiled to you. Inside, a diorama of a future utopian city was constructed called “Democracity.” It was designed to be inhabited by a million and a half people, covering 11,000 square miles.
Trylon and Perisphere, along with Democracity inside, were the symbolic heart of the Fair. But the branding behind it all was intentional for more reasons than one would initially assume. The idea was created by the Fair’s publicity director, Edward Bernays. Bernays was Sigmund Freud’s cousin, known as the man chiefly responsible for bringing his psychoanalytic theories to the United States during the 1920s.
While Sigmund himself fell into despondency in Europe after World War I, Bernays became widely successful in the United States. Using ideas of the unconscious, he quickly gained a reputation as someone who could conjure up mass public opinion for products and issues like no one else. While his later critics likened it to “manipulation,” Bernays himself called it “public relations,” a term he coined.
Yet, reading his work, one finds a deeply cynical man. Bernays rationalized his activities by arguing that the management of mass desire was preferable to the alternative—that is, “letting the unconscious run wild” with its repressed urges. If these dark forces were actually unleashed, he believed, they could undo society itself. Consumerism was hence viewed as a bulwark against the primitive mind of the crowd, and managing its desires was rationalized as necessary in saving society against itself. As he stated openly in his work Propaganda (1928), “the conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society.” He was therefore one of the first theorists of what can be called "managed democracy."
Whether he really believed in his own rationalization or not, Bernays did become incredibly wealthy from his services. By the late 1920s, he was “living in a suite of rooms in one of New York’s most expensive hotels, where he gave frequent parties.” According to an employee of Bernays, the events were a “who’s who” of the business elite, the arts, media leaders, and the mayor himself. In due time, his clients also included those within politics and the state. He became a "sort of magician" of public opinion, even though he openly viewed this same public with open contempt. Given his reputation, it was unsurprising that Bernays was tapped for the 1939 New York World’s Fair.
Given that the American public was just coming out of the Great Depression, it was known that the reputation of “big business” in the United States was at historic lows. By framing the World’s Fair through the prism of desire, Bernays sought to rehabilitate this perception by giving Americans an open door—one that they themselves did not even know they wanted. Bernays’s daughter confirms this aspiration of his in an interview with Adam Curtis for his documentary A Century of the Self (2002).
Anna Bernays: To my father, the World’s Fair was an opportunity… Capitalism in a democracy, democracy and capitalism in marriage. It was consumerist, but at the same time you inferred in a funny way that democracy and capitalism went together.
Adam Curtis [continues]: The vision it portrayed was of a new democracy in which businesses responded to people’s innermost desires in a way politicians could never do. But it was a form of democracy that viewed people not as active citizens… but as passive consumers… [which] Bernays believed was the key to control in a mass democracy.
As Curtis makes clear, this thinking reached its symbolic high point at the 1939 World’s Fair. A democratic vision was then constructed by its very own skeptic, someone who viewed democracy as nothing other than a form of social management. Historian of public relations, Stewart Ewen, summarized this view in an interview with Adam Curtis:
“It’s not that the people are in charge, but that the people’s desires are in charge. The people exercise no decision-making power within this environment. So democracy is reduced from something which assumes an active citizenry to the idea of the public as passive consumers driven primarily by instinctual or unconscious desires, and if you can trigger those needs and desires, you can get what you want from them.”
At the end of the century, the consequences of this vision would be criticized by writer Christopher Lasch. Published after his death in 1994, Lasch wondered whether American democracy was now merely living off the “borrowed capital of moral and religious traditions antedating the rise of liberalism." Lasch was a critic of the kind of managed democracy that began to emerge around Bernays's time. By the 1990s, the consequences had become self-evident: when Lasch was writing, civic participation had sunk to its lowest point since World War II.
Perhaps this long trajectory—triumphantly advertised as a "new horizon" at the 1939 World’s Fair—helps explain why the state’s competency and ability to execute basic functions has deteriorated so badly in our own time. Needless to say, Bernays's model of managed democracy was not exactly resilient and built to last.
Decades later during the 1970s, optimism would dry up amid scandal as institutional trust collapsed, exposing the hollowness of this consumer model of democracy outright for the first time. The fact that the United States has still not recovered from that “crisis of confidence” is not accidental: the ultimate outcome of a Bernaysian model of managed democracy is not renewal amid crisis, but rather an entrenchment of its old managerial ways, because it has so little of an active public to draw upon.

The interactive nature of certain formats like the outdoor LED advertising screen can invite audiences to engage with brands in new ways. Examples of this could be found in highway rest-stops or busy town centres where interactive LED screens disseminate messages in an engaging manner.
All in all, the potential for outdoor advertising is limitless, and companies should make full use of the available avenues to ensure their brand stands out, reaching a wider audience in a creative, engaging, and impactful way.
