Small Party Catering NYC: Steps To Plan Perfect Food For The Event
Tumblr media
Planning the food for a small party can be both exciting and daunting. Whether you’re hosting an intimate dinner for friends or a small business gathering, getting the food right is crucial to the success of your event. In a bustling city like New York, where culinary options are as diverse as its population, small party catering NYC service can help you elevate your event and take the stress out of meal planning. Here’s a comprehensive guide to ensure your event’s food is as unforgettable as the occasion itself.
Define Your Event’s Theme and Audience
To begin with the analysis of your menu, it is crucial to determine its theme and the people it is intended for. Is it a black-tie affair or a barbecue? Knowing the tone of the occasion will help you to determine what sort of meal to prepare and how to plate them.
Formal Dinner: When considering food and beverage choices for the event, select appetizers, meals, and sweets that are appropriate for the formal setting. What about gourmet dishes and traditional recipes?
Casual Gathering: Septic conditions of the ambiance are easier to consume for individuals and require simple food and dishes. Appetizers such as those that can be held with the fingers include fingers, small hamburgers, and dips that can be taken in small portions.
Themed Party: If your event adopts a certain theme like Italian or Mexican, then ensure that this is reflected in the kind of foods you have in your event. Food related to the theme of the event enhances the entire experience and also can create a good topic for discussion.
Establish Your Budget
The act of setting a budget is a crucial factor in the planning process of any event, not just food. This will in turn affect the quality and quantity of food to be bought as well as the small party catering NYC service to be hired.
Food and Beverage: This is charged per head and any extra charges that might be put on certain products.
Service: Depending on the kind of catering service you hire, there is the hiring of wait staff or bartenders which will be charged.
Equipment and Rentals: If you want to get more tables or chairs and dishes for serving then all of these should also be considered.
A realistic budget makes you avoid cases of overspending or straining to attain the quality of the materials or services you need.
Choose the Right Catering Service
There is no shortage of small-party catering services in New York City, but choosing the right service provider may be a challenge. Search for a service provider that focuses on the provision of services for small-scale occasions and has customized options. Here’s what to keep in mind:
Experience: Choose those companies, which have experience in serving people in small parties and gatherings.
Menu Flexibility: Make sure the specific products offered may be changed to fit the specifics of your event and your guests’ requirements.
Reviews and References: Look at the rating of the restaurant and requests from the clients for their experience.
A good and professional catering company will sit with the client and help to select the right menu for the event within the set budget.
Plan a Balanced Menu
A diverse clientele means that a restaurant needs to be able to offer a balanced and variety of meals that at least some of them would fit one’s diet preferences. When planning your menu, consider the following:
Appetizers: For appetizers, offering an assortment of foods that any visitor seeks is recommended. Incorporate vegetarian and gluten-free meals in case not all the guests will be able to take some meals.
Main Courses: Make sure to present a variety of main courses recommended for various types of diets. They should comprise barbeque meats, poultry, fish, and veggies.
Side Dishes: Accompany your principal dishes with a variety of side dishes. Something light and fresh that goes well with the meat is preferred by many guests, so fresh salads and baked vegetables will fit the bill, as would potatoes or rice.
Desserts: Desserts are the last course, which means that there is no other way but to pamper your guests with delicious sweets. Added to this, if the reception will be in the evening, you may want to consider mini pastries, some kind of cake, or a dessert table.
Be sure to offer some lighter items alongside heavier ones so that customers can find a good balance if they wish. This means that the guest is able to have a variety of different foods to choose from ensuring a wholesome dining experience.

Hi Colin, I came across your blog after getting around to playing Control in January and I love seeing all your photos/screenshots of Jesse. I saw through your blog you also talk about how female characters are portrayed in video games, so I wanted to ask you something. I was thinking about gender roles in Control and how I wouldn’t have played this game if the roles were reversed between Jesse & Dylan (I got interested in this game because there’s a female protagonist). I mean, if wanted to see a piece of media where the man saves the woman, I could play like every other video game, movie, book etc.
So you know how in media typically when they have a female lead character they still cater to men and often times (like in Disney princess movies) in order to compensate for having a female lead character they often end up making the rest of the characters as male ones? I was just wondering since I haven’t seen anyone mention this/really unpopular opinion what do you think about instead of a brother they gave Jesse a younger sister? I would have liked that so much and wish they did that. The previous game Remedy did (Quantum Break) had two brothers, it would have been nice if they had two sisters.
Anyways, I was just wondering about your thoughts on this because when when it comes to siblings, I don’t see a lot of sister-sister relations in media. I can only think of like 3 at the top of my head and the lasted one being Arcane. I don’t know if you watched that, but I loved Vi & Jinx’s relationship and it would have been cool to see something like that in Control. In regards to the sequel, I was thinking about Jesse & Dylan’s relationship and how they would go about that because often times in older sister/younger brother relationships they put the sister in a motherly role which I don’t really like.
In the first game, I know myself and others didn’t care for him (and the story at least imo didn’t try to make you care). I know depending on how much emphasis they put on their relationship in the next game, they would have a lot more conflict, but idk I’m not really feeling their relationship as siblings. I think I’m more interested in the fact that it would give her character development/more of an emotional arc, not the relationship itself. Anyways though, at least they have Emily because I loved their relationship, especially in The Foundation. Sorry if this is a weird (and long) question I wanted to know your thoughts and this what you think about them giving Jesse and younger sister instead of a brother? Thanks!
Hi anon *wave* Thank you and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Control! Funny you mentioned, because I've always loved the evil twin tropes. I still wish Kassandra had an evil twin so Deimos is just her twin sister (so when you go to the protag choice menu it just says "Kassandra" or "The More Unhinged Kassandra"), and to an extent, I wish Jesse had an evil twin sister (does esseJ counts?).
You brought up a good point we often don't see sister-sister relations in media and I too wish we had more (I still need to watch Arcane and play Quantum Break, oops). If Jesse had a younger sister, I'd definitely be more personally invested in the sibling character. I can still relate to Jesse and Dylan sibling relationship as I have a younger brother irl, but I'd definitely prefer Jesse to have a younger sister given the choice (I also have a younger sister irl). Sister relationship is rarely portrayed in games, I just want to see more of it and get my brain chemically altered forever after that (like how we rarely get mother-daughter relationship explored as protags in movies and eeaao hits like a truck). This last point might simply be pure coincidence: I remember Courtney discussed about losing her brother (x), so I'm not sure if that was the inspiration for giving Jesse a brother, this is just my speculation though as there's no official confirmation about it.
The Dylan Easter Egg (x) imo hints the Hiss is coming to NYC along with an eclipse (you can see the One World Trade Center and the Brooklyn Bridge), combined with the Control 2 poster showing that the Hiss is outside the FBC, it's very likely that Dylan is up to no good or maybe it's the crime syndicate group that trades OOPs for profit (who knows what kinda reality portal bending OOPs they're holding). Idk if we will know more about Dylan other than the creepy weird brother who brings troubles that the older sis gotta clean up the mess in the sequel, but yes like you, I hope Jesse got more emotional character development arcs in Control 2, even if it means I'd have to ball my eyes out when I finish the game.

Anyway I'm still so excited for Control 2 and fingers crossed for more Jessily aaa I'm excited for the sequel!!!!

Spider-Man 2: A Stunning Evolution of NYC
The Manhattan map in the 2018 Spider-Man game was a marvel of open-world design. However, the bustling streets and iconic landmarks felt somewhat lifeless when compared to its successor, exclusively powered by the PS5. In this sequel, players can truly appreciate the potential of Sony's cutting-edge hardware. It expands the virtual world to include a detailed rendition of Manhattan, Harlem, Brooklyn, Queens, and Coney Island. The result is a more vibrant cityscape, with more yellow cabs zooming down Fifth Avenue during rush hour, tourists snapping selfies in Times Square, and an overall sense that the virtual metropolis is teeming with life beyond the main action.
Tumblr media
Combat: Lightning-Fast Reflexes and Tactical Choices
Surviving the frenzied wave-based battle royales in Spider-Man 2 demands lightning-fast reflexes. Players must fluidly transition between different attacks, utilizing the square button to strike, the circle button to dodge, and the triangle button to close in on the nearest enemy. Special abilities add a strategic layer to the combat, no longer tied to specific suits as in the first game. Now, players can assign abilities through the pause menu, allowing for greater customization and tactical depth. Mixing and matching these abilities becomes crucial in determining the most effective combination for your play style. One viable combo that players interested in buying PS5 games might appreciate could start with a Reverse Flux to immobilize foes, followed by a Chain Lightning to eliminate weaker enemies. This sets the stage for unleashing Thunder Burst, a powerful area-of-effect attack, and Galvanize, a focused strike that sends one enemy airborne while damaging nearby foes. Managing cooldown timers and building your focus bar through regular attacks are essential aspects of combat strategy for those diving into Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Only when the focus bar is maxed out can you heal or perform slow-motion takedowns, either solo or in tandem with your spider companion?
Tumblr media
Skills and Gadgets: Versatility in Combat and Traversal
A suite of skills, gadgets, and suit tech options complements the dynamic combat system. Players can unlock improvements using skill points earned from winning battles and discovering secrets. Both Peter and Miles have unique combat traits, while a third tier of shared unlockable skills offers broader advantages for both combat and navigating the city. The traversal aspect of the game benefits from the addition of a 'web wing' wingsuit, allowing gliding through the skies at any altitude instead of solely swinging from high platforms. This feature proves invaluable when crossing the East River towards Queens and Brooklyn. Wind tunnels and updrafts, indicated by glowing rings on-screen, help maintain aerial momentum, adding a touch of puzzle-solving to the traversal experience. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 boasts an impressive roster of 66 spider suits (34 for Peter and 32 for Miles), each paying homage to specific eras or storylines from Spider-Man's rich history, making it a must-have for fans looking to buy PS5 games. Notably, the symbiote suit holds a special place within the game's narrative, though discussing its significance would reveal major story beats.
Tumblr media
Accessibility Options: Enhancing the Gaming Experience
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 features a comprehensive suite of accessibility options, catering to a wide range of player needs, including those who may want to buy PS5 games. These options include Hearing Presets for adjusting subtitles, colors, music volume, and vibration settings. Motion Sensitivity Presets offer control over camera-related features like shake, blur, and depth of field. Motor Presets aid aiming, melee combat, and parkour, with options like continuous dodge, enhanced auto-aim, and QTE autocomplete. Vision Presets offer various gameplay aids such as auto-heal, chase assist, and waypoint navigation.
Exploration and Side Activities: A Living, Breathing World
Unlocking the diverse districts of the game is a more organic process compared to its predecessor. Discovery now depends on physically entering areas, as opposed to the comms tower interactions reminiscent of Far Cry. The map of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is filled with extracurricular activities apart from the main quest, including designated photo ops, raidable enemy gang strongholds, randomly generated crime scenes, and time trial-style puzzles. Completing these activities rewards players with tokens, which can be used to unlock skills, suit tech, gadgets, and more. To put the game's scale in perspective, completing just the Story Mode leaves over 50% of the content unexplored.
Tumblr media
Conclusion: The Pinnacle of Superhero Gaming
Marvel's Spider-Man 2, developed by PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games, represents the culmination of years of evolution and refinement, both within the developer and the superhero action-adventure genre. The game offers numerous improvements over its predecessor, featuring a combat and gadget system that pays homage to Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series, and traversal that caters to anyone who ever dreamed of swinging through the city skyline. In summary, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 sets the bar high as the ultimate superhero gaming experience.

on fast food/restaurants: there's so much diversity in many areas (esp in more urban/populated cities) it's kind of wild when i stop to think about it. around where i grew up there's a Chinese bakery that's across the street from a taqueria that's down the street from a sandwich shop/cafe that sells bahn mi and pho and even further down there's a Filipino restaurant. that's also not counting fusion type food places that sell food that's a mix of a couple or many different cultures because the owners/chefs are of mixed race and they wanna share food from their mixed heritage. or specialty places like places that cater only to vegans/vegitarians.
even with fast food places there's like, places that are only in certain regions. i think they're expanding but an example is how in-and-out diners are only found in the west coast of the US. i think chain fast food places are more common in like, famous cities like NYC or Los Angeles because tourists = more people = more money. but also if you're really low on cash, eating from the McDonalds $1 menu for a few days is more appealing than spending a lot of money on groceries and going below your bank balance, esp when you have bills and whatnot.
Oh yeah there's defintely some regional fast food places because there are ones that I've only seen on road trips not local

23 Checking in? During Fashion Week—and all year-round—we love a chic hotel hideaway, and one of NYC’s chicest is The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel. The ornate enclave is equal parts bohemian and modern, with a healthy splash of Art Deco glamour (you’ve definitely seen its famous atrium splashed across IG). However, there’s more to The Beekman than meets the eye, from its rich fashion industry ties to luxe penthouses, delectable restaurants, and more! We chatted with general manager Titus Negrescu to get the inside scoop on all things The Beekman—which you can discover right here! Tell us a little bit about the history of The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel before it opened doors as a hotel. The Temple Court building, a masterpiece with a rich history, was the site of Shakespeare’s Hamlet debut in New York in 1761 at the Chapel Street Theatre. Over the years, literary legends like Emerson, Twain, Thoreau, and Poe graced the space. This architectural gem was built between 1881-1883 by James M. Farnsworth in Queen Anne style—the nine-story Victorian atrium and skylight became the show-stopping feature and still remains iconic today (and has recently been declared a NY landmark). Originally attracting attorneys, it quickly became the go-to spot for creative businesses like publishers and ad agencies, drawn to its forward-thinking design. The Temple Court has stood strong for over 100 years and was officially declared a New York City Landmark in 1998, a true testament to its lasting legacy. The history is woven into the fabric of the hotel–celebrated through art, design and even a curated cocktail selection in The Bar Room. Guided by our fantastic Chef Concierge, George Gaffney, our “Historic Beekman and Beyond” tour allows guests to step back in time to Newspaper Row and walk in the footsteps of journalistic giants like Joseph Pulitzer, Horace Greeley, and William Randolph Hearst. The Beekman’s Thompson suite How many rooms are in the hotel and what differentiates them? The hotel has 287 fully-appointed rooms, including 35 suites and two signature penthouses within the “turrets”, each with private rooftop terraces offering very unique experiences. Our spacious and stylish rooms & suites are thoughtfully furnished with the guest experience in mind, boasting plush velvet furnishings, handmade leather headboards and vintage pieces.  The Beekman’s Thompson suite What are some of the on-site amenities? At The Beekman, you’ll enjoy a signature dining experience at Temple Court by Tom Colicchio, and for in-room dining, we have 24-hour options from Tom Colicchio’s Crafted Hospitality. For special events, we have a selection of beautiful private spaces, along with catering from Crafted Hospitality. You can also indulge at Le Gratin by Chef Daniel Boulud and then check out the buzzy high-end microclub, Laissez Faire which is located beneath the hotel. Our fitness center features Peloton spin bikes, and within the guest rooms, you can enjoy guided meditations and mindfulness tools in partnership with Headspace, along with high-speed Wi-Fi, USB ports, and Bluetooth speakers. Plus, we offer exclusive D.S. & Durga bath amenities, a luxury house car, clefs d’or concierge service, and more. It’s all designed for all types of bespoke experiences! The Beekman’s Thompson suite bathtub What are the dining options? The Beekman is really a culinary destination in and of itself. Tom Colicchio and Daniel Boulud bring their culinary magic to our restaurants–Tom Colicchio’s Temple Court offers modern American dishes with a nod to turn-of-the-century New York City, while The Bar Room, beneath our stunning nine-story atrium, is the perfect spot for crafted cocktails and an all-day menu. Guests can also enjoy upscale in-room dining and event catering from Temple Court. Chef Daniel Boulud’s Le Gratin brings the spirit of Lyon, France, with a lively vibe and delicious Lyonnais-style dishes inspired by his hometown. The Bar Room The fashion industry has ties to the hotel. What are some of the big events that have happened there over the years? The Beekman has maintained a strong connection to the fashion industry in many ways. Whether partnering with designers and creatives on photoshoots or hosting more intimate in-suite experiences, we are allowed the opportunity to visually experience the hotel differently through the lens of each photographer. Our hotel has also been a runway during New York Fashion Week—to name a few highlights. Maison Valentino transformed the atrium’s upper levels into a runway show underneath the majestic skylight; Cinq Ă  Sept used the rooftop a catwalk; and Johanna Ortiz hosted her show on the cellar level. We welcome all types of celebrations and absolutely love curating our own dazzling events–from ringing in the new year with a Silver Disco fĂȘte or whimsical Madd Hatter’s Ball, to our vibrant PRIDE celebrations with proceeds from The Bar Room’s special cocktails contributed in support of the Ali Forney Center. Guests are enthralled by over-the-top aerialists descending gracefully down our nine foot atrium, and the breathtaking performances that can be viewed from any floor of the hotel. The Beekman’s Atrium What’s your go-to room service order? Two of my absolute favorites are the shaved brussels salad with a anchovy vinaigrette, walnuts & parmesan, and the roasted red pepper dip with charred chili and marcona almond and crostini.  Are there any secret parts of the hotel we haven’t seen yet? They may not be a secret, but our Turret Penthouses (East and West) are incredible! At 1,200 square feet across two floors, they offer plenty of space, plus a huge 800-square-foot private terrace–the East Penthouse offering an open experience. You enter through a charming Wisteria Trellis, which leads you into your own hidden oasis. The terrace is beautifully landscaped with ficus trees, rose bushes, and hydrangeas—perfect for a romantic getaway, intimate dinners, or even small celebrations.  The Beekman’s Penthouse West Terrace The Beekman is located downtown. What are some of your recommendations to check out in the area? There is always something going on in the Financial District—we like to say that the “cobblestone alleys welcome curious eyes and crowded street corners add color to the canvas.” We recommend checking out The Seaport, AIRE Ancient Baths New York, the Perelman Arts Center, Mercer Labs, Brookfield Place, and all of the historic sites such as One World Trade and 9/11 Memorial & Museum. We are also conveniently located near to City Hall and welcome all newlyweds to celebrate at The Beekman after saying “I do!” Do you have any special offers our readers should know about? One of our very popular offers is the Weekend Getaway package, which allows guests to enjoy The Beekman during a weekend escape. This offer includes a $75 food and beverage credit and complimentary room upgrade, based on availability. The offer is available Thursday, Friday or Saturday and can be reserved on the hotel’s website.
