Personal health hacks that have completely changed my life in the last 9 months.
Absolute number one is removing carbs from my diet. I had THE WORST crashes and lethargy every single day after my morning oat meal, after my carb heavy lunch, and carb heavy dinner. Despite being vegan my body lacked nutrients and calories from under-eating being plant-based and carb-overloading. 
Introducing grass-fed meat and high quality eggs into my diet. Red meat gets such bad press in the media, but personally it has given me energy, strength and I feel much better eating this in moderation. 
Little exercise each day. Not killing myself with a hardcore workout and then not being able to move for rest of the week (which I was doing previously). I now do a little each day. 1.5 - 2mile run most days, and daily stretches and weights at home. Nothing crazy, but a little goes a long way and I find it much easier to be consistent doing smaller bouts on my own schedule daily. 
Hormone health, ensuring I am keeping my hormones balanced. I make watermelon juice daily with 1.5 heaped tablespoons of flaxseed. Alongside that. I take omega 3, DIM, Selenium, Iodine, Vitamin D +K2, Evening primrose oil for womens health. I eat foods that support healthy hormones, broccoli, carrots, sunflower seeds and removed the foods that cause imbalances (carbs, sugars).
Removing all stress from my life. Including moving overseas, deleting social media and keeping my circle small but wholesome. 
Quit drinking alcohol. Initially I thought I would have the occasional drink but I truly have no desire anymore. My life is significantly better for not drinking. My body never responded well to booze. 
Sleeping properly for 7-9 hrs per night. Meditating for 1 hour before bed usually puts me in a completely zen mode for relaxation. That means my phone is switched off, I use a lavender pillow spray and light candles to set the mood for a goodnight sleep. 
Zeolite detox for heavy metals (currently in the process). I have Zeolith Med powder each day with water to flush out any toxins. 
Learning about gut microbiome, and probiotics..in the process of obtaining kefir grains to make my own batch. Making sauerkraut on weekends and introducing a wider variety of foods into my diet. 
These are completely personal and I can honestly say I feel better than ever. I wish I had done the above years ago, especially the carbs! I got a continuous glucose monitor of Amazon to see how my body was responding to carbs before I completely cut them off and I recommend doing this if you want to know more about how your body is reacting to glucose. 
*this all took time and effort, but once I removed the distractions, the meaningless socialising, the boozing, the scrolling I’ve had time to invest in myself + my health

so like many things most tips in the realm of native gardening and supporting the local environment are made by people who have all the energy and a weirdly vested interest in only doing it their own way and not giving way to people who have none of the energy so
hacks for the low energy native gardener (part 1?)
before you go out and buy any tools, plugs, seeds, whatever the hell, KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH. whether youre renting a tiny apartment or have a large grassy plot, take a couple days to pay attention to the plants and animals that already live nearby. these are your neighbours, and they will be the ones benefiting from whatever you decide to get up to.
your goal is to get a vague idea of the BIODIVERSITY in your immediate location.
the garden of the home i live in was already host to a lot of different species, already boasting a higher diversity than the rest of the neighbourhood, but many people live in places where the diversity has been depleted. take note of how many different species of Tree/Shrub, Flower, Bird, and Animal you see. if youre only getting 2-3 in each category, this is lower diversity. if youre more in the range of 6+, this is higher diversity.
higher diversity is a healthier environment, yes even if the diversity is almost entirely invasive species. if you live somewhere on the higher end of diversity, you will be better off spending your time reading about the guys you already have. use inaturalist to ID, and take a read through the wikipedia page for these species.
in a higher diversity area, your goal should be to fill in the gaps. some examples include: drinkable water, nesting sites, shelter, and seasonality (eg you have plants that bloom in fall, but nothing that blooms in spring)
in low diversity spaces, your goals can be more open ended. a low diversity space will be starving for variety, and just about anything you do short of destroying more will help support the area. activities can range from letting some of your lawn grow out to buying a potted flowering plant and leaving it outside.
do not fret if your efforts attract INVASIVE SPECIES. in low diversity areas, these are often the only species available TO attract. in higher diversity areas, invasive species can potentially coexist with natives. its often a matter of resource availibility: if theres enough to go around, competition between the two can be eased. as a layman with no energy, do not concern yourself with invasives.
i could make this entire post about how i believe invasive species are lower on the priority list but i wont. this time.
a BIRD FEEDER is one of the simplest ways to boost your local environment. buy a metal tube feeder with an anti-squirrel cage around it, fill it with black oil sunflower seeds. NO PLASTIC. this is the one i have and its perfect.

you do not need to clean it every time you fill it, only if it gets nasty or if you notice sick birds using it.
if possible, put it near a shrub or some other spot where birds can quickly find cover if necessary.
do not fret if it gets mobbed by invasives. the sounds of happy birds, ANY happy birds, will signal to other species that this area is safe and has food.
if you live somewhere that gets cold, a suet feeder is a great investment as well.
If you have a LAWN and want to rewild it, you do not need to rip up the sod to start a garden. dig a hole straight through it and plant your guy. ripping up the sod is time and energy consuming, and only really useful if you plan to convert the entire area immediately.
If you miraculously do end up ripping up sod, just flip it upside down. thats free mulch baby.
letting a lawn grow out can yield many surprises. the vast majority of lawns arent actually monocultures, just a collection of guys who grow low and can handle getting mowed. a prime example of this in eastern N.america is evening primrose! its a native biannual, growing as a low rosette in the first year and shooting up a stalk of flowers in the second.
when you first let the grass grow out, it probably wont have much going on, but the height and lack of mowing will provide a new microenvironment for different types of plants to grow in the shade, and the next year you will already have new guys popping up.
dont buy SEEDS, if you can help it. seed mixes are dubiously sourced, and theres no guarantee they will germinate or give you plants that you actually want. never buy online. try to get one target species instead of a mix. collect your own if possible, and always leave behind plenty for others.
if you want to use seeds, you will have more success taking a muffin container, poking holes in the bottom, and making little soil patties to grow them in. in cold areas, leave the container outside over winter, as native seeds typically require it, and in spring youll have these nice little pucks of seedlings that can be transferred to larger pots, and then into the ground once theyre 15-20cm tall.
your money is best spent on buying a mature or already growing plant from the nursery. dont plant it right away, but leave it in the pot in the spot you want to plant it. if it dries out or wilts, too much sun. if it gets pale and the soil remains waterlogged, too much shade. use that to determine its final resting place. when in doubt, opt for a bit shadier--especially if its shady during the midday heat.
pesticides and herbicides are not necessary. raking leaves is not necessary. trimming dead stems and foliage in winter is not necessary.
and possibly most important: always add more than you intend to take away. do not destroy until you have a replacement ready.

So I start digging deeper into the forest in search of finding something new. I keep my eyes peeled.
In a clearing there is a small garden, flowers blooming. The season has just started, so the flowers are still shy. I don't want to ruin them by harvesting them too soon. I only take the primrose buds, because my mother likes to extract the oil from the young buds and not from the mature flowers. She says it yields more.
Right next to it there is a long branch of lilac lavender. If I wait just a few more days it will be completely perfect to be harvested and made into ointment. My mother sells them a lot to miners because lavender relieves the pain of tired muscles. But other than that, lavender has an incredible smell.
I run my nose through the lavender flowers. It tickles me. The smell can be much stronger as it matures, but even without its full potential already is extraordinary good. That’s why some women from the merchant area come to my mother's house just to get some. They rub the ointment on their skin as a perfume.
When I was young, I didn't understand. I thought it was a useless whim of people with too much money to spend. Today I know why they apply the ointment precisely on their necks. It was because that's where boys' noses go when they hug you. At least mine does that, every time. He puts his arms around my back and breathes a long sigh into my neck every time we meet again. I remember that I will see him today.
My fingers glide over the petals damp with dew. They are extremely delicate and soft to the touch, they almost seem to fall apart with my rough fingers. For some reason, I feel the urge to feel the soft sensation with my lips, so I touch the petals gently to my mouth. It's so velvety.
My stomach turns when I smell them once more. A cold runs down my spine, and I feel my legs go weak. Lavender really does smell divine and he would probably love to smell it too. So I pluck a branch and put it in my bag.
