opinion: I think tortured poets department is great top to bottom, standard album and the anthology, I think the “this needs editing!” take has been wildly overstated if not completely untrue (I think it’s completely untrue), I agree with Harvard professor and literary critic Stephanie Burt that it’s got three complex interwoven storylines happening at the same time—loss of a long time love, loss of the chaotic and ultimately darkly empty rebound, and Taylor grappling with the hollowness of fame and ultimately her own mortality in the wake of both. It has everything you could want from a Taylor album and more INCLUDING the bangers many want to pretend aren’t there; it’s just that the public has never been more out of tune with her. They want to believe that it’s a bad album because they wanted a bad album from her. They truly felt it was her “time” to have a bad album and there is not a thing the public loves more than when they feel it is time for something. she is an artist who is pretty much always capable of capturing the zeitgeist but also of necessity moves in and out of it because she has her own real artistic journeys to go on and those will not always align with the cultural moment. and what is more, I think a Taylor album has never aligned with the cultural moment less, a testament to the album not a knock on it as the current cultural moment is a love of the empty-headed, the rat-brained, the sparklingly numbing emptiness. the public, someone, anyone not being in the mood for something doesn’t make it bad it means they are not in the mood for it and they’re not in the mood. but none of that changes the fact that the work is good all the way through nor the fact that time will bear that truth out. in this essay I will

And let me be PERFECTLY CLEAR I am not rooting for Harry to take a tumble? Not at all. If I could shelter him from it, if I could curl up around him and Louis and hiss any time any issue/scandal lapped at their feet… lol I would.

But I can’t. So. I can only observe and say what I think.

The rate at which he is working is untenable and absolutely cannot be sustained. And eventually, the public writ large will tire. We have the attention span of goldfish, after all.

Does this mean he’ll be cancelled and disappear forever? Nah. I have a feeling we’re gonna get the Taylor Swift model from him (don’t send me hate about this I’m not even going to read it. You don’t have to like her at all but she does exist in the world, so.) Taylor has done this thing over the last few years where she pops into culture, makes a boatload of money, and then falls off the face of the earth for anywhere from a few months to a few years. She is someone who knows A LOT about the perils of overexposure. And the game of like “now you see her, now you don’t” has actually benefited her massively.

Harry *will* hit a critical mass. He just will. There is already rumblings of it, but I promise there is a point that something gives. I can’t think of a single celeb of his status who hasn’t faced some sort of tumble. Not a career ender! After all, some people are STILL paying to see Adam Levine perform. But where he is, there’s too much pressure and there are too many ways to “fall” in this day of social media. I don’t know when or how but I really do think we’re catapulting there. And hey, if I’m wrong, then that’s a good thing! It means Harry truly is different than every other musician in the history of ever, and so, I will, I don’t know, send Jeff a fruit basket as an apology or something.

Sorry but I just don't understand how anyone is shocked. Truly what has that woman ever done to successfully convince people that this is out of character for her. Like I don't want to diminish anyone's pain or anything but I see all these stans on here and over on Twitter in all this distress, having their very first epiphanies like "Hold on . . . does Taylor . . . suck??" And I kinda just have to chuckle at them cause like bless your hearts babes, but omg catch UP 😭

Lol because 1) she is a severely emotionally stunted person who thinks edgy British "bad boys" are hot like she's 12 years old, 2) she has no true deeply-held moral principles outside of issues that directly affect herself, and 3) truthfully, she seems to be suffering from a serious crisis of identity after the end of the longest and most significant romantic relationship of her life, and in my opinion is pretty clearly desperate to prove something to the world/her ex/herself.

The first reason is cringe but not news to longtime viewers, the second reason is pathetic but also not news (to those who can be honest with themselves), and the third is . . . understandable in some sense, but not pitiable enough to make me willing to humor this insufferable little episode she's having. I wish her luck on this humiliating rebound journey, but she is gonna have to walk that road on her own.

Normally, I always roll my eyes when people make these kinds of jokes, but given the circumstances I feel justified in saying: I can't wait to hear the breakup song about him, sis 🤡
