# reluctant to love
desc: in which rin writes a long essay proclaiming his long suppressed love for you
warnings: not proofread⌠lots of rambling, maybe ooc, itoshi brothers are not estranged, minuscule amount of angst but majority is fluff, some curse words here and there, rin is still at blue lock btw!
rbs and interactions are appreciated !!
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
âdear y/n,
i am writing this letter to inform you that i have taken a liking to you for a while now and would like toââ
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
rin grumbles to himself as he scribbles out the complete trash of a confession that he had just wrote.
he doesnât even know why he decided to take this approach at all. it all started because isagi and bachira told him that, âhe was beating around the bush,â and âheâd probably win the world cup before being able to utter a word in front of them.â
so of course, rin said some very harsh words in response, leading to isagi challenging him to confess to you before the next match (that was in 72 hours) with his football career on the line.
which is how he found himself sitting at his desk after practice, spinning his pencil around trying to write a stupid love letter for his best friend.
because in the words of bachira, âeveryone loves poetic men!â
despite immediately denying the words of his friends, deep down he knew damn well that they were completely right. if he wasnât forced to, he would probably quit football before ever speaking about his feelings out loud.
but because the itoshi rin canât risk his ego and pride, heâs reluctantly willing to write a silly letter.
turns out writing that silly letter was harder than any football game heâs ever played.
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
âdear y/n,
i remember the first time we met.
it was first day of junior high, and you were sitting on a bench in front of the school with red puffy eyes, fiddling with the little kumamon plush on your bag.
i was late to class that morning, and after seeing you i purposely tried to walk faster in order to avoid any human interaction. but you saw me and grabbed onto my blazer, refusing to let go even though i didnât spare you a glace. you asked for help getting to your classroom, and because i didnât know what i was getting myself into, i lead you there (like the kind person i am) expecting to never see you again.
but i guess the world had other plans, because it turned out we were in the same class. you stuck to me like a parasite, annoying me every chance you got and never shutting the fuck up. but i enjoyed the company, though younger me would never admit that.
fast forward a few years and nothings changed. or has it? youâre still yapping your mouth off all the time and clinging beside me in every class. except somethingâs different, and i donât know what it is. you laze around at my house after begging me for homework help, we occasionally go get food, sometimes fall asleep together andâ [this part is illegible because rin drew over it too hard]
i donât know. i think around this time i started distancing myself from you because i always felt uneasy around you. my heart was always beating rapidly, my stomach felt uneasy, and i just felt anxious. all the time. nii-chan told me it was because of you, so i just stopped talking to you. iâm sorry.
iâm sorry i didnât tell you i was leaving. that iâd be gone for a while because i got scouted by blue lock. i didnât mean to because i thought iâd be okay before i left. sorry iâm rambling now. i know i donât speak a lot in person so iâm writing my thoughts down for you to understand me better.
i was a kid in denial, and sometimes i still am because even now i donât understand that part of myself. to be honest, i wouldâve never confessed these feelings of mine if my friend didnât push me to. it sounds like a dick move but i swear on my career that everything iâve written on this stupid paper is genuine and sincere.
and what i am certain of is that i want you to be by my side. i want you to be there cheering for me when i win a game, i want you to be there beside me when i wake up, i want you to spend your afternoons lazing around me, i want you to tell me all about the small unnecessary details of your day,
i just want you
because you make me feel safe
ââââââââââââââââââââââââ
rinâs biting his lower lip now, feeling super embarrassed about how vulnerable he just let himself be on a piece of paper. he doesnât read over it at all and shoves it into the envelope immediately. doesnât even check whether he wrote your address right or not because heâll chicken out if he looks it over at all.
heâs super anxious about this letter, to the point where heâs fucking up his plays, so imagine his surprise when he sees you sitting on his porch the day he finally gets to go home.
you jump up immediately at the sight of him and run to hug him. rin stiffens at the sudden impact but drops his bags a second later to sink into your embrace.
though as if that wasnât enough of an answer for him, heâs still uncertain about your feelings. you hear the rapid beating of his heart and look up to give him a lovesick grin.
âi love you too, itoshi rin.â
BONUS: 2YRS LATER.
âi canât believe you forgot to sign off a letter confessing that youâre head over heels for me.â you giggle as you walk over to your boyfriend, who was staring at his letter that you pinned to your pegboard. âwhat if i ended up responding to the wrong person?â
rin huffs and turns away, embarrassed that you caught him reading that. âshut up, you have no other friends anyways.â
you smile teasingly at him as you notice his ears turning red. âyou never thought about the possibility that someone couldâve liked me during the 10 months you ignored me for?â
he frowns, though you canât see him, and droops his shoulders down. you know he still feels bad about it, but itâs fun to tease him because in your eyes he looks so adorable, like a big puppy.
and as he still stares at the floor, he turns around and walks over to envelop you in his warmth, resting his head in the crook of your neck.
an endearing smile finds its way on your face as you hug rin back. heâs not a words person; this was his way of expressing his apology.
âitâs okay, you big baby, as long as youâre here with me now.â
#first time writing for rin!!!!#i think this is very badly written ngl my grammar is everywhere hahahahahahahhaha#itâs kinda cute tho lol i feel like rin is such a loser even tho heâs super fine#anyways enjoy ily#itoshi rin#itoshi rin x reader#blue lock#blue lock x reader#itoshi rin fluff#itoshi rin x y/n#blue lock drabbles#bllk scenarios#rin x reader#blue lock fluff

I wonder how Dorem would react to a human experimenting on ways to replace him of taking care of earth's souls, like how plants and corals can purify surrounding water and air to some degree. Trying to give limbo the same mechanism for the souls. Since it's obviously way too much for him to handle and he...kinda sucks at it, if looking at all the undead and souls that got eaten is anything to go by.
I just see a human sometimes bursting their way into Limbo, running some science tests and magic practices to find a way to make limbo independent, all the while not even giving Dorem a glace of attention, you have more important things to do. Then Pack up, go home, look at some results but going back to work. I just find it to be a funny Image.
Dorem watching some dumbass human step into fucking Limbo to do Who Knows What:
You're allowed to keep working when he realizes what you do is somewhat beneficial -in a minuscule scale, but still- Though he will whack the back of your head with his cane every time you show up uninvited and without greeting him.
Manners, you audacious, godless critter!
Eventually, he'll begin small talk. Let your real thoughts about him be known and a fierce argument will begin. It will make or break your future with Dorem.

The Spare - Chapter 11
And the story continues. This one is much less angsty. As always, a big thank you to @lumosinlove
Chapter 11
Regulus was woken by a heavy thud and someone swearing loudly. He was completely disoriented, his brain sluggish and not quite connecting what happened last night and how he ended up ...here. Nâimporte quoi⌠WhateverâŚ
Blinking blearily, he spotted someone hopping on one leg, clutching their other foot in their hands, still generously swearing. Erm... He snorted at a remarkably colourful curse and the head of the girl, so it seemed, snapped up.
She looked him up and down through dark-rimmed glasses and the floppy top of her ashy-brown pixie-cut, presently sporting a rather impressive bed head, while gnawing her bottom-lip like Ben sometimes did.
"Sorry." But her barely concealed grin belied the soft mumbling. She wasn't so sorry.
He slowly began to comprehend what was amusing her. Regulus was sprawled on the couch, his feet tangling off one end, drool sticking to his cheek, half-entangled in the chicken-blanket and clad in a hideous shirt with cow pattern that barely covered his midriff. Short, he was the epitome of sophistication, grace and elegance. Ouais, enfin⌠câest naze. Yeah, well... that sucks.
He could feel himself turning beet red and sat up, violently scrubbing his cheek.
"Good morning, you want Tea?" she asks. Regulus nodded without listening to what he just agreed to. Maybe I won an Alpaca... Okay... I'm not awake yet. That is not an awake-Regulus thought.
While she turns to... get whatever he agreed to, he stood up and stretched in an attempt to wake up properly, feeling like he had barely slept at all. A glimpse on his phone confirmed his feeling: Half past five in the morning. He had about two and a half hours of sleep. He allowed himself his internal eyeroll, stretched again and winced, rubbing his stiff neck.
Then he took a look at the girl coming back from the kitchen with two steaming cups in her hands, a bottle of milk wedged between her upper arm and her ribcage and a paper bag of sugar pressed with her chin to her chest.
Regardless of the rather odd way of transporting stuff he notes that she is, no other way to say it, minuscule. Her shirt was reaching over her wide hips below mid-thigh and was most likely even smaller than the one he... clearly pulled off.
The girl -Josephine, he assumed- probably was around 5'2'' as she just reached the height of Regulus' shoulder, making him around a foot taller. How does she get to, like, half of the stuff in this room?
After briefly considering the height of Ben and Mateo, he wondered whether the door to the flat was a portal to the shire and he was now surrounded by friendly hobbits. Definitely mad. He snorted again. Since when did he even do this?
Jo dropped her cargo on the living room table without spilling anything, plopped down the couch and busied herself with the tea. When he settled down beside her, a cup was pressed into his hand while she poured milk into her own, gesturing for him to help himself. Concerning tea, Regulus had always been a purist. A bit of Lemon was acceptable in Earl Grey and that's about it. He eyed her milky-tea. Wasn't she british? PaĂŻenne. Heathen.
"I'm Jo. I sort of live here. Had an OK night?" she asked, not facing him.
"No" Regulus sore neck began to give him a tension headache and rubbing at it did not help at all.
At first, she just huffed at his deadpan answer but then looked up at him and he got a first look of her face. She was as pale as her brother, her face slim with a gentle jawline and high but not overexaggerated cheekbones. Her eyes were framed with very dark lashes, a dark blue borderlining green with hazel flecks around her Pupils similar to her brothers but also very different, open and sparkling, the bridge of her slightly broad button nose was sprinkled with pale freckles and the tip sported a silver septum-ring. Her full lips were currently being gnawed at, paired with a raised eyebrow. This soft and expressive face was about as different from his motherâs as possible and Regulus' stomach gave an undignified churn.
"Quoi?", he was suddenly very irritated, "I had about two hours of sleep and my brain is pounding through my skull! I have no nerve for idle chatter and polite exchange of pleasantries."
Jo gave him a second glance, put both their mugs at the table and sat down on top of the back of the couch, directly behind Regulus.
"What-" he started again but was curtly interrupted "Oh bloody hell, belt up!" What?!
"I am not nearly as socially gifted as the other two himbos. I do not beat around the bush, I do not small talk, I was a nice and considerate host, offered tea and stuff although I prefer my mornings calm and solitary. I do not have the patience to deal with snappy dudes on my couch so hold still. I'm gonna fix your neck and we try again." So, bullying people into feeling better runs in the family...
That said, she pulled his shoulders back so that he was sitting straight and began carefully kneading his neck up to his hairline. I hurt. A lot, but somehow her hands tingled on his skin in a completely irrational matter. Then, Jos hands reached up to the base of his skull and her thumbs very precisely and firmly pressed on two rather sensitive spots he didnât even know were there. Regulus gasped and tensed up.
"I know, but it gets better soon. Ben used to twist his neck all the time. I know what Iâm doing." her voice was much softer now. Then, she pressed into similar tender spots on his shoulders and shuffled back to sit beside him.
"Better?"
He took a few breaths to realise that, indeed, the pain was almost gone. "Yes."
"Nice. Shall we have a civil and less snappy conversation now?" It came over rather rude but there was a smirk in her eyes and a corner of a lip was twitching slightly.
"Why are you even awake now?" Regulus mumbled after sitting in silence for a while.
"Just am. I've always been an early riser and as resident introvert I do genuinely enjoy mornings on my own to prepare for a day full of dealing with people and have other exasperating encounters."
Regulus turned his head towards her. "Are you always this plain about things?"
By now, Jo had tucked herself in the corner of the couch, sitting cross-legged and playing with a hole in her sock.
"As I told you, I do not beat around the bush. I mean, I am capable of cordiality but interaction with people is bound to lead to miscommunication. Why make it worse by hidden meanings, hinting on things or even expecting that the other one is a mind reader... People are hard work as is; Many of them are daft, stubborn or worse, both. I prefer to keep strangers at an armâs length."
Instead of a witty remark, Regulus gave an embarrassing little chuckle. How very eloquent... He liked her view on society. "You are a little overdramatic now, donât you think? Besides, you just gave me a neck massage. That was closer than an armâs length."
"No and no." He risked a side glace at her, caught a short smirk and smiled into his tea, realised what he was doing and gave an internal admonishing glare at his composure.
"I suspect you know the difference between literally and metaphorically, too. So m'just gonna continue in the belief you're shitting with me. Here you go with the literal answer: The massage was self-preservation. You're an unbearable little git when in pain."
Regulus raised his eyebrows in a mock expression and leaned in the opposite corner of the couch "I see. Am I now of decent demeanour, your grace?"
"Surprisingly tolerable." She returned the with a smirk.
They bantered and talked about random stuff (A great amount of time was put into determining the best Disc World Series â Truce between Ankh-Morpok City Watch and Death) for what felt like hours and seconds at the same time. Regulus profession was not even part of the conversation and he didn't think he had ever talked for so long with someone without getting to hockey and the mess that came with the name Black, eventually.
He felt strangely at ease here, catching himself paying less attention to his meticulously established guard. He barely scanned Jos words for hidden implications or concealed prying, like he was so used to do. It became so much second nature to him that, until now, he didn't even realise how exhausting this habit was.
What the hell? Reg asked himself not for the first time since meeting Ben in the rink-showers and he was starting to freak out a little.
After an uncommonly long silence he noticed Jo looking at him again while gnawing her lips. It seemed to be a giveaway that she's about to ask something uncomfortable.
"Reg?" The use of the pet-name felt like a slap. He should really tell them to stop this.
"How do you know my name?" Apparently, Regulus was still not used to being known.
"The note this morning only read: The guy on the Couch is Reg, be nice." Jo really tried to sound light-hearted.
Regulus was starting to get suspicious again. "Ah. What?"
"I do not want you to feel like shit so tell me if you do not want to answer: Why are you here?" Jo shiften unconftably in her corner.
"I do not want to answer." Regulus prepared himself for the inevitable interrogation.
"OK." Here we go⌠Wait.
"Thatâs it?"
"Sure, why would I pry?" The girl furrowed her brows while looking at him over the brim of her cup.
He felt strangely content until now, that he remembered why he was here and asked himself what these people actually wanted from him. The knot in his stomach was back with full force as he felt the waves of guilt washing over him.
He ruined his brother live and was sitting on a couch, drinking tea and joking around with strangers? He got up abruptly, plucked is clothes from the heating unit and changed quickly, not giving a flying fuck about giving the girl a prime view of his naked arse. Jo stood between him and the couch, her brows still furrowed.
"I need to go." With that he was out of the door and only just heard her calling
"Hey idiot, you can come back this evening if you want to" before the doors of the elevator closed. Smooth, Black. Real smooth.

INSIDE LISETTE DU POITIERS MIND - task 40 psyche.
tw misscarrige, tw childhood trauma, tw child abuse.
Lisette, as much of a wanderer as sheâs always been, as a few places in her mind she dares not cross. Closed gates with roseless thorns growing around them closing in, or perhaps keeping others out, all that she would rather forget. While she will over think minuscule moments of her life down to the smallest gesture she dares not recall her time at the hospital when she was 22 and no longer pregnant or her father's handprint on her face the one time she dared to talk back to him.
Lisetteâs early life was made of rules and closed-off spaces. While most royal and noble children had paths laid out for them from an early age, Lis and her brother had little more than a room. There was no room for growth in the du Poitiers house - there was simply the right way to do things. And consequences for those that did them wrong. This lead to an unhealthy focus on appearances for the young girl, and a need to be perfect in every way.
As young children they were often left alone, the only other person in the house other than their parents (in the few instances they were there) was the cook, Mrs. Carmèle, who doubled as the nanny, for Saint Croix had long blown through the family money. Mrs. Carmèle was a smiling short figure, who had to be about 70 by the time they were born and could do little else around the house other than cook. But her family had lived on the farm surrounding Château de Gudanes for as long back as anyone cared to look, generations of fathers as steward and mothers as cooks, daughters as maids or nannies and sons as valets or horseman, along with dozens of other people serving her family.
But those times were long gone, even her father barely remembering them from his own childhood. Mr. Marien, Mrs Carmèle late husband, had died when Lisette and Alphonse had barely begun school and hadnât worked in the house since the time they learned to crawl. And so only Mrs. Carmèle lasted, singing in the early morning as she baked bread, and telling stories in the afternoon as she knitted. The children weren't happy, but those short moments - of sitting at the old wooden kitchen eating warm bread with butter werenât the only moments Lisette and Alphonse were ever truly children. Sheâs the reason Lisette ever learned kindness and empathy for others, even if these layers are often masked by more prominent family traits.
The only time they were ever all four in the same place was Sunday mass. The one time they were the perfect family. For all his peculiarities Saint Croix feared god more than most mortal men. And Florence had been brought up a devout catholic so she amused her husband in this one quirk. No matter what was happening in the house they were a family on Sunday morning. Her motherâs episodes lifted, her fatherâs anger subsided and her and Alphonse were expected to do just the same. You left problems at the door of the church. For God sees all and will punish you for any wrong thought.
The rest of the time was filled with tutors, for no matter how poor Saint Croix got he would rather die than send his children to school. Not only for the embracement of mingling with those so far beneath them but lest it put ideas in their minds. Once they were past the basics, reading and writing and math and music, the twins were separated. Different roles called for different classes. Alphonse learned history and politics and all he needed to one day become the head of a duchy. Lisette was trusted into etiquette and learned just enough of everything to make a pleasant conversation fit for a lady. This left them both lacking terribly well into their adult years and still affects Lis to this day. She has trouble looking at facts as part of a whole instead of simply different pieces of information. Can make a coercive long term plan. Lives life on a decision by decision basis. Alphonse had a horrible time in connecting to others on a personal level analyzing every situation, no matter how close to him, as if from a stranger's perspective. While charismatic in his own way he was an awful conversationalist in everyday matters and dealt horribly with plans being changed on him. This lead to a lot of their future misunderstandings.
Their childhood was also populated by a third force, their mother. Often lasting for days, Florence would get in depressive fits that would leave her locked in her room without eating or talking to anyone, followed by short highs where she would drink herself sick. The children were not only observers to this their whole life but often active participants. Either targets of their mother's rage or little nurses, taking her to bed when she passed out drunk in the stairway, or holding her hair back as she threw up in the tub. Lisette and Alphonse would often tag team staying awake during the worst nights to make sure she didnât stop breathing or would have to force her medication on her when she refused.
Mrs. Carmèle lasted in the house until around their 11th birthday, by then to old to be of much help. The house was still cleaned, by the faceless maids who came and went in a van and treated them like they couldnât be touched. Perfect porcelain children. By this age they had been almost fully shaped into the adults their parents wanted them to be - one at the image of their father and one of their mother.
Despite her father's best efforts thought - Lis learns patriotism and loyalty not from his forced lessons but from her cousins in Paris. Her and Alphonse are quite a bit younger than all of them - Giselle being the closest with a 6-year difference - making it easy to idolize them. Arnauld is charismatic and smart and a gentlemen or knight of the old stories in her eyes. Benoit kind and affectionate and as she grows older a close companion. Giselle fearless with a wit to her Lis dared not imitate at home. Her sense of loyalty is still forged to that childhood sense of wonder - she will find people who exhibit traits sheâs been told are valuable and hang on to them. Itâs very hard to come out of Lisetteâs good graces once you entered it.
Her time in Hungary leads to two things - her general happy demeanor in life & the complicated relationship with her brother. Alphonse never quite forgave her for choosing to stay in Hungary almost full time past their 15th birthday. Yet Lisette there learned to be more relaxed and carefree. She was still the perfect lady when others were looking. But to have even the short-lived conversation with Levente where she could laugh out loud or be a somewhat normal teenage girl with Fanni were worth lifetimes to Lis. The closest thing she had ever had to it where the couple of times she had visited her cousins in Belgium, Louise a greatly welcomed friend in her youth.
The times she came home Alphonse was every time further and further from the boy she knew. At the time Lisette saw it has him becoming their father, cold and distance focused simply on himself and his ever so important work, the only difference was is distaste for women. Yet as Lisette grew older and further away from her house she understood that had simply been his way to escape their childhood. She had left. He had hidden in himself.
Her marriage at first feels like a small win. She had never tried to get closer to Akos, despite her time in Hungary being dependent on it, to focused on finally having the small freedoms she was allowed. Yet she created an image of him in her mind, the perfect husband from the few not conversations they had in their âcourtshipâ. Married life, however, proved rough from the start. Ever great at holding her fantasies Lisette couldnât help but be thrust into real-life at every point. He was no longer charming and mysterious - they simply knew nothing of each other, and her inability to voice her concerns or wishes lead her into the depressive states she had criticized her mother for her whole life.
Her mood only lifted when she feel pregnant. Lisette thrived in the idea of motherhood. To undo all her own childhood with a new life - in her young mind just another thing to get perfect. This just made her losing the baby a bigger blow. Still incredibly religious by this point in her life the loss of her baby felt like a curse, a punishment from god himself for her sins. Thatâs perhaps the biggest contributor to her running away. Not only is she unable to face others as a failure (for whatâs a women's job at court but to give her husbandâs family children) but for a genuine belief, sheâs cursed. The news sheâs later to find sheâs infertile donât help this vision of herself and to this day while sheâs long past seeing it as her defining feature or a curse from God, she canât help but feel less than other women for it.
Her time in Italy gives her a small taste of confidence and opens up old memories she never dared glace over before then. Mrs. Carmèle granddaughter Sophie who was just an year older than Lisette but laughed like the song of birds was in her throat, with long gold curls down her back. She used to fancy Alphonse but Lisette would blush every time she got close to whisper secrets at her ear in the afternoon sun. Or the pretty Hungarian she had pecked one during her first year there, a game late at night with giggling girls who had yet to find consequences. A child's kiss but one Lisette could feel in her lips for days after.
Gaia was her first love, perhaps the first person who truly saw her for all but her name. Her time with the Italian is short but marks her terribly. Sheâs unsure to this day if she would have survived that moment in her life without it and came out the other side not being just a broken shell, like her mother.
Her travels are where she learns who herself is, without the constraints of family or consequence. Sheâs now truly able to find her own way in life and explore the world to the fullest. She learns how to deal with emotions - instead of simply shutting them down and how to deal with conflict instead of simply running away or pretending it doesnât affect her. Itâs not instantaneous and there are setbacks. Sheâs not a perfect lover nor a perfect friend and she thereâs a few relationships along the way that she could never fix - her brother being one of them. But during those years does one thing she was never allowed. She tries and fails and tries once more.
Meeting Stella, and the consequent relationship she gets out of it is a breath of fresh air simply because Lis gets to experiment with it. They donât have anything concrete for a long time but thereâs an air of eternal to their connection. Their encounters at first, the spontaneity of them, make it so they donât squash Lisetteâs slowly growing spirit. Anything to fast would have sent the girl she was running at the first sight of trouble. But, whether Stella realizes it or not, the year between their first meeting and their first official date make it not only founder in Lisetteâs mind but make it so sheâs actually ready for that type of commitment in her life. The reason she has trouble letting go of Stella now, is because Stella was never a constant before either. Lisette had to work on bettering herself to even have a chance at happiness with another person, and that didnât come easy so sheâs incredibly attached.
Alphonseâs death drops Lis off the edge sheâd been climbing once more. Sheâs back at square one, and closing in on herself day by day. Sheâs more closed off once again, yet the free spirit hangs dormant beneath. Sheâs more willing to trust others than she would have been in her childhood but still has trouble creating deep connections with people outside the small circle of those she trusts.
#hshqtask039#//i didn't proof read this nor will i#if i look at it for longer it will never get posted#not tagged but if you're character is closed to lis they're probably mentioned
