I am not closely following the election results tonight, but I am occasionally seeing flashes of them out of the corner of my eye. The most obvious sign that things aren’t going well right now is the complete lack of celebrating on my dash. I know what tumblr looks like when it’s happy. Maybe I’ll go to bed tonight and see something different in the morning. I hope to god that is the case. But I’m thinking about the way I’m thinking right now, and I want to get some stuff down before the future kicks in.
In 2016 I was in a period of my life I affectionately refer to as as my fuckup era. I wasn’t even fucking up really. More just chilling out and falling short of the vague expectations I’d had about what I was supposed to be doing after I graduated college. While my friends from college rented apartments in the city and got jobs that didn’t supply you with a uniform shirt, I lived at home and worked as a barista at a fancy movie theater. That’s a real job you can do for almost five years. I didn’t have a clue what the back half of my twenties should look like. The only long term plan I had in my life was moving out west with my best friend, and my plan for finding a job once I was out there was basically to cross my fingers and hope.
Those days weren’t bad on the whole, but it felt like I was not actually living a life so much as I was goofing off in the waiting room. Sometimes that felt embarrassing, sometimes it felt fun, and sometimes it felt like I was completely pointless to the world.
On 2016’s Election Day, I went to bed early. After watching the votes come in, I needed the night to be over. I woke in a world that felt different than it had been the night before—not just in the actuality of who would be president but down to its foundations. I realized for the first time how much hope I’d had in human nature because now I didn’t feel it anymore. It’s almost silly when I think about it—so many horrible things had already happened that year, people had done horrible things as long as there have been people, and I didn’t think I was naive to that—but something clicked into place that morning.
It felt the same way my world had changed a year earlier, in 2015 during my last semester of college. My college victory lap felt like a prolonged downward spiral. Very early in the morning on a Monday, after pulling an all-nighter and overwhelmed by self-loathing that I could not just motivate myself to work on a paper that had been my only thought all weekend, I self-harmed for the first time in a way that was impossible to pretend it was anything else. Earlier that weekend, I’d tried staving off the urges drawing or writing on my arm, something that did (and does) usually work. I’d written this quote in silver sharpie on my forearm: “Good is not a thing you are. It's a thing you do.”
I picked that quote from the Ms. Marvel comics and liked the words so much, I thought that I wouldn’t be willing to purposefully mess it up by hurting myself there. Didn’t work. They just made me feel more ashamed of myself as I did it.
That was the worst I had ever felt. Then, on the Friday of that week, a friend of mine was senselessly, brutally murdered.
It doesn’t feel now like there was ever a time before her death. My memoir class is now where I wrote about her. My favorite professor is now the one who held me as I cried. My final thesis, the culmination of my history degree, never got finished and certainly never got polished. I turned it what I had and got an A minus. Sometimes I think of rereading that paper to see if that’s the grade it actually deserved. We hadn’t been the closest friends, but my name was still on the email admin sent to professors, listing students who might be emotionally affected by this tragic event. Grace’s murder hangs over every memory I have with her and everything she ever touched. It feels like its own type of obliteration to leave her reduced to her death.
Grace wanted to be a lawyer because she believed in justice and also liked arguing. She could be rude when she wasn’t interested in what you were saying. When you caught her attention, you felt like the most fascinating person in the room. She was so proud of being Jewish. I watched her become proud of being gay. She was so universally friendly that it took me a year to realize that she actually liked specifically me. She had a somewhat silly laugh and an astonishingly luminous smile.
I thought less of the world and the people in it because of how she died. Trump’s election in 2016 felt like that.
After he won, I left stasis. From November through December, I thought harder about my future than I ever had before. Who did I want to be? What did I most value? What did I think was worth protecting? What work wouldn’t kill me to do? At one point, in presumably a fit of madness, I thought, “what if I got into politics.” Epiphany eventually hit me. By the time of Trump’s inauguration, I was already enrolled at community college, getting my pre-reqs for nursing school.
Now it’s election night again, eight years later. I live on the west coast with my best friend, in a house that we bought together. I work as a nurse in a hospital in a city where there are homeless encampments off every highway and someone begging for change on every corner. Meanwhile, there’s Palestine. Meanwhile there’s Sudan. Meanwhile refugees drown in the sea and border patrol shoots jugs of water. Even hurricanes have human cruelty now.
I don’t think people are inherently good or the universe inherently kind. But I am very good at tricking myself into thinking it for a little while, and when I do, I can remember the a specific feeling from Friday of my senior year, from that morning in November— how fucking hard the disappointment hit me because I had expected people to be better than this. It makes me want to be better than that.
I believe, and hope that I always will, that we can make a better world. I don’t know what it looks like, but I think I will see it in my lifetime. Those of us who can believe such things owe a bit of that naïveté to the world—not to excuse atrocities or think them impossible but to believe that we can stop them at all. You have to have a couple people sprinkled around who are genuinely shocked when people do bad things. It’s not that the pessimists are wrong, but you need the occasional counterbalance. I want to be a reasonable cynic’s pleasant surprise.
Every shift, I interact with people at their lowest and worst. I see the direct pipeline from pain to anger to violence, and how fragile that pipeline can be. So many situations can be changed by things as small as a warm blanket or a kind word. Violence can be quite easy to avert. Crises can be quite simply to resolve. Even when I know that whatever I do that shift will not change the circumstances of a person’s life, I think that what I do that shift still matters.
I’m lying in bed, writing this post instead of looking at the news. I wonder how tonight will change me. Been thinking about what I’ll do if Trump wins. Been thinking about how whatever I think I need to do under Trump will still need to be done if Harris clutches out a victory. I guess this is a pessimist’s optimism: to a degree the election doesn’t matter. Good is not a thing you are. It is a thing you do. Our better world will always take a lot of work.
But please god please, why can’t it be just a little easier to do it?

Most of Stranger Things is within Will’s head…
Including El, the Mind Flayer, Vecna, and more characters...
A lot of people aren't going to like this or agree but- if you are willing to read this at risk that you won't like it... try to keep an open mind and keep that curiosity door open.
(Above is a direct cut from Will to this line...)
I just want to begin by saying: I believe Will is the center of this show. I know many disagree, and place other characters at the center but let me explain to you why I believe the show is mainly about him.
The show begins with Will, as his disappearance is the catalyst for every single event to follow.
If you take a step back, and look at the show as a whole… making Will the center makes the most narrative sense. Without Will… there is no Stranger Things.
(GIF from @/kaypeace21's post here)
Lonnie hammering a nail into the wall while we cut to Mike poking a hole into a piece of paper visually tells a lot. Remember guys, this show is all about showing and not telling. Here they are showing us that the abuse Lonnie has inflicted unto Will caused the gate to open. The Upside Down exists due to Will's trauma. This is because the Upside Down is Will's mindscape.
DID and Internal Worlds
Will has experienced trauma far more severe than we are explicitly told. His trauma mainly leads back to his father. If you are prepared to read about the depths of said trauma, read this post. Not for the faint of heart though, my friends.
In Will's case, his trauma as led to a specific rare mental health condition called: Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a mental health condition where you have two or more separate personalities that control your behavior at different times. When personalities switch, you’ll have gaps in your memory. The identities are usually caused by living through trauma. x
This means I believe that many of the characters we know and love were created from Will's mind. There are common alter roles within a DID system, and this show has been assigning different characters to some of these roles this whole time.
Now, this is NOT a new theory. The creator of this theory is kaypeace21 (one of the original Byler theorists!) Check out her posts here and here. While I agree with a lot of what she has to say, I do think she jumped the gun a bit with some things... specifically: the Persecutor Alter... more on that soon (not to fault her at all! As Vecna did not even exist prior to ST4).
Let's go back to the Upside Down being Will's mindscape:
Many individuals with dissociative identity disorder (DID) have an internal world in which they or their alters can manifest as themselves and interact. These internal worlds, which are also known as inner worlds or headspaces, can range in size and complexity. x
The Upside Down = Will's internal world. Those that inhabit that world or arose from said world are likely Will's alters. Yes, that includes El, the Mind Flayer, Demogorgons, etc. and of course: Vecna.
Here's another visual clue! A hole in the wall (an opened gate...) at the Byers' house that may have "always been [there]".
I know we are told the gate had opened prior to Nov 6, 1983, and that El had been the one to open that door/gate. But... that's because El herself is Will. She is a personality that had developed from him.
Now, lets talk common DID alter roles and how some of our favourite characters fill these roles to a tee.
El, the Gatekeeper Alter
I talk about the Willel theory here but I'll explain it briefly. El is "the gatekeeper", she is the one who Will lets "front" most of the time. Because remember guys... Will "likes to hide".
El was even compared to D’art (who came from Will…) see post here.
Also worth noting: Will's abduction in the shed is compared to... the first atomic bomb (used in an act of war) called "Little Boy". Post about that comparison here. What occurs during a nuclear reaction? Nuclear fission. Fission meaning: SPLITTING INTO TWO! Just as we see with the Phineus Gage comparison. That exact moment was when "El" emerged from the UD (Will's mindscape) into "reality". Leading to her becoming... a literal gatekeeper for Will.
She also helps solve Will's dilemma of to stay or to go, as Will himself stays (in the UD) and El goes.
So... what do I mean by “the gatekeeper"?
A gatekeeper is an alter that controls switching or access to front, access to an internal world or certain areas within it, or access to certain alters or memories. x
Now. Remember guys, we literally see her closing the gate and she (allegedly) was the first to open said gate. She also is heavily associated with repressed memories (the whole NINA plot...)
El has always been protecting Will from facing his trauma and facing himself. That is why we see her "save" him multiple times, why she takes on the role of Mike's romantic partner, why she takes the brunt of the bullies at Lenora, and why Will looks on like a helpless bystander... It is not due to resentment nor cruelty but fear. Will has been hiding behind her this whole time. He is not ready to face his memories, trauma, and the world. Not yet...
The Mind Flayer, the Demon Alter
In abusive groups, a young child can be severely traumatized in order for abusers to intentionally create an alter, and the alter can be tricked into believing they have been possessed by, and have become, a demon. X
This one is pretty self-explanatory, as we literal have a "possession" plot line involving Will. Though, instead of being "possessed", this alter of Will's was fronting.
Vecna, the Persecutor Alter
This is the one I'm most excited (and nervous) to talk about because it is SO fascinating and it matches his character perfectly.
So basically, Vecna is NOT Henry Creel. Vecna is an alter of Will's existing in his hive mind. Hear me out about this.
What I believe is that Henry Creel (or perhaps Edward Creel), was a real person that Will had heard about resulting in him creating an alter based on him. This is called "Factive Introject":
An alter with the form, personality, and possibly the psychological backstory e.g. memories of an outer-world person, whether a relative, a celebrity, or even an acquaintance. x
I believe that when we see "Henry" within both the Rainbow Room AND the Upside Down... this is Will's alter. (The Rainbow Room is likely another inner world of Will's...).
Are you still with me on this? Because lets get into the real evidence here.
What is a persecutor alter?
Persecutors are alters that purposefully harm the body, system, host, core, or other alters, sabotage the system’s goals or healing, or work to assist the system’s abuser(s). x
I know that sounds pretty scary, and some easily dismiss persecutor alters as "evil" BUT they are not. Viewing any alters this way is harmful. All alters' goals are to protect the system, even if they may do so in misguided ways.
x
Most persecutor alters start out as protector alters… which exactly what we see in the show! “Henry” is kind and protective towards El (who is another alter).
Then he decides to “kill” the other kids/alters (I say kill but they will still live on in the mind.)
Lets look at the exact terms used to describe the effects the persecutor alter has on the system...
X
Headaches…
Internal bullying…
Increased blank spells…
Interference with function…
Self-multilation…
Still have doubts on this? Let’s continue…
x
As I said, the persecutor alter is not "evil", it is a misguided protector. Its goal is to protect and often does this by taking on all the suffering experienced by the host and the alters...
But why? Why does the persecutor alter do such things if the goal is to protect?
X
To prevent the host and alters from disclosing their abuse. Think about this for a moment. What did Chrissy, Fred, Patrick, and Max all have in common (other than trauma)? They all were seeing the student counsellor Ms. Kelley and revealing to her aspects of their trauma and abuse.
Vecna, as the persecutor alter, was having NONE of that and thus… “killed” them to protect the system. As he feared the consequences for Will/the system as a whole.
This is VERY telling for Will, because he has long been afraid of opening up about his abuse, trauma, and everything…
We see this emerge in many forms:
The Byers phone frequently going unanswered throughout the show due to Will’s fear of opening up/communication.
Lonnie telling Jonathan to keep his mouth shut for his mom’s sake…
The rats in ST3. To “rat” = to snitch.
El’s bullying in ST4. Angela repeatedly refers to her as a “snitch” even though she never did snitch.
Papa/the Demogorgon/Neil, the Abuser Alter
x I’m going to go right out and say this: “Papa” represents Will's abuser. We see him abuse El, Henry and others in a manner similar to what Will had experienced with Lonnie.
That’s why he’s called “Papa”, as he is a representation of the abusive papa of Will: Lonnie Byers.
Like Henry Creel, he is also likely based off a real person... Richard Brenner perhaps?
"That's what I have to do to keep her close to me. I don't want her going out. Men only want her for one thing and then they hurt her. She doesn't need anyone else but me." In addition to intimidating her so that she would not seek contact with men and risk further abuse, [the abuser alter] was also possessively trying to strengthen her attachment to him. X
This perfectly applies to Brenner's relationship with El, Henry and the others. He wants to isolate them to "protect" them from further abuse. We see this clearly as Brenner prevents El from leaving NINA, at all costs.
Again, even the alter representing the abuser should not be seen as “evil”. It’s complicated. All alters are aspect of the host, they are not evil. There are good intentions behind the bad actions.
Other Alters…
So, I believe other characters are also alters of Will’s such as:
Max, Billy, Chrissy, Fred, Patrick, Eddie, Argyle… and more. This post is getting far too long for me to expand on that just yet though.
Mike is “The Key” but… he’s not the only key
Let’s not forget about Ms Kelley and her key necklace!
Although Mike’s love will be an incredibly important aspect to saving Hawkins and saving Will… Will also needs to open up, face his trauma, and reveal his truth. Keeping all of this bottled up inside is causing far more problems…
When it comes to treatment for DID, there are different methods. Some include:
Identifying and working through past trauma.
Managing sudden behavioral changes.
Merging separate identities into a single identity. x
The latter being a highly controversial one, and it may not be the right choice for everyone with DID.
Within the show however? We will likely see merging or fusion of some of the characters in the end (we likely already have too...)
We already have foreshadowing of fusion between Will and El:
Robin and Steve discussing the act of "combining" to "solve all [their] problems".
Dustin hugging El and Will only to have El visually disappear during their hug.
El ending the season standing alone in the Upside Down.
In DID there's also a concept called integration, which may not be as extreme as fusion.
The individual must then make the choice of to what extent they want to integrate their alters as part of their healing. Again, some degree of integration is inevitable. The individual must integrate traumatic materials in order to heal from PTSD. As well, enough integration between alters must occur to allow for easy communication, a lack of dissociative amnesia between parts, and a consistent sense of being grounded in the present and in the body. The individual must be able to take responsibility for all of the system's actions, and all alters in the system should work together towards the same goals. x
Basically, Will must become insightful of his condition and see all aspects of himself (all alters) as helpful (even if they may be misguided). It will NOT help him to simply "kill" any alters, that will not work. He must accept himself for who he is. He must learn to love all aspects of himself.
I won’t touch on it here, but I will just mention that I’m very confident the show will end with another realm/internal world that’s beautiful and full of life. Implying that Will has finally found some peace of mind. I talk about it in this post.
#I don’t think you guys are ready for this one………….#most controversial post yet#stranger things#Stranger things theory#Will Byers#byler#Vecna

SBG as Voltron AU
Friends that wanted to be tagged: @blue-eyed-moon-child @niredsw @random-gamer1942
The roles
Black Lion: Tyler He's very much leadership material and with Ashlyn as Allura, it gives Tyler the perfect opportunity to be leader when she's not around yet give her the ability to run things like she does in the comic and Allura does in the show.
Blue Lion: Taylor She's thoughtful, caring, puts others first, like Lance did with everyone (LANCE STOP GETTING HURT), and Allura did at the end of the show.
Red Lion: Aiden Very loose and fast, likes to live on edge, very much a second hand man and doesn't take leadership even when he could, allowing Tyler and Ashlyn to take over. But also protective of everyone, like Keith is of Shiro and King Alfor was of Allura.
Green Lion: Logan Probably the smartest in the group when it comes to school like things. I think that he would struggle in the same way Pidge did when connecting to nature, in the "I like being inside but if I have to connect to the tree I will"
Yellow Lion: Ben Big guy, smart, compassionate, thoughtful, just like Hunk and Gyrgan.
Ashlyn is Allura Ashlyn is Allura because she fits the role of Red as much as Aiden does. So when/if Aiden gets the Keith running off to galra arc, Ashlyn gets the red lion :D
Alex is Coran
Maverick is Zarkon
Ryan is Thace
Jasmine is Haggar (without the weird, being honerva bit? like no romantic feelings please)
Charlie is Sendak (Maybe I'll draw these later)
Continue for Chapter 1: (This will be a continuing series & I will be splitting episodes into one-two chapters depending on length)
“You come up here to rock out?” Aiden asked, removing Logan’s headphones slightly. Logan jumped, whipping around to see who was behind him. “Oh, Aiden, Ben.” Logan greeted with a sigh of relief, “No, um, just looking at the stars,”
Aiden and Ben exchanged a glance. "Stars?" Aiden echoed, lifting his gaze to the empty canvas of the sky. "It's a little cloudy tonight, don't you think?"
Logan shrugged, “So?” “Where'd you get this stuff? It doesn't look like Garrison tech.” Aiden frowned, giving Logan a confused look. “I built it,” Logan sat up proudly and grinned at Aiden and Ben. “You built all of this?” Aiden asked as Ben bent down to touch one of the pieces of equipment. Logan reached over and gently smacked Ben’s hand away, “Stop it!” He turned his attention back to Aiden, “With this thing, I can scan all the way to the edge of the solar system.” “That right?” Aiden asked, a smug grin on his face, “Would you say, all the way to Kerberos?” Logan froze, slightly glaring at Aiden. “You go ballistic every time the instructors bring it up.”
Logan glared at Aiden. The blonde continued, “What's your deal?”
Ben reached towards Logan’s equipment again. “Second warning Ben!” Logan turned and scolded.
“Look, Logan, if we're going to bond as a team, we can't have any secrets.” Aiden squatted down to Logan’s eye level. Logan sighed, “Fine. The world as you know it is about to change. The Kerberos Mission wasn't lost because of some malfunction or crew mistake.” Ben reached over to touch Logan’s computer. “Stop touching my equipment!” Logan demanded.
Ben made a face of disgust before sitting back and nodding that he’d listen this time. Logan continued, “So, I've been scanning the system and picking up alien radio chatter,” “I’m sorry what?” Aiden asked, blinking in disbelief. “Aliens? Really?” Logan nodded.
“So, you're insane. Got it.” Ben’s phone spoke out for him. “I'm serious.” Logan promised, “They keep repeating one word, ‘Voltron.’ And tonight, it's going crazier than I have ever heard it.”
“What is Voltron?” Aiden asked as if Logan had all the answers.
“I have no clue,” Logan gave a helpless shrug.
Suddenly the PA activated, “Attention, students. This is not a drill. We are on lockdown! Security situation Zulu Niner.” The gentleman on the comms instructed, “Repeat: all students are to remain in barracks until further notice.”
“What's going on?” Aiden asked, a frown as he looked up at the PA system. “Is that a meteor?” Logan asked, squinting through his glasses. “A very, very big meteor?” Aiden asked, in disbelief as he turned back around. Logan grabbed his binoculars from his bag and held them up to his face. “No. It's a ship,” Logan looked slightly panicked. Aiden grabbed the binoculars and pointed them at the sky. “Holy crow! I can't believe what I'm seeing! That's not one of ours.” “No. It’s one of theirs,” Logan shook his head and started packing up his stuff. “Where are you going? We’re under lock down,” Aiden furrowed his brow in confusion and upset.
“I've got to see that ship,” Logan told Aiden, grabbing his binoculars back before dipping over the short edge of the building they were on. Aiden watched for a moment as Logan hit the ground and started running towards the airship that had now crashed into the ground. “Come on Ben,” Ben grabbed Aiden’s arm before the blonde jumped off the building after Logan. “This is the worst team-building exercise ever,” He had typed into his phone. It read the message out loud before Aiden laughed and turned to jump off the building.
The sound of multiple Garrison vehicles departing to the crash site erupted from the building just before Aiden landed with a thud on softened earth, a cloud of dust billowing around him. Ben touched down more gracefully, landing on the balls of his feet. His eyes remained focused on Logan's receding form.
——— As soon as they approached the crash site, Ben and Aiden noticed that Logan had set up his computer behind a rock formation. Aiden and Ben ran over and crouched down with Logan. “What are you doing?” Aiden asked, looking over Logan’s shoulder to see the computer. “Trying to hack into their security cameras,” Logan shushed Aiden with his finger. “You can do that?” Ben’s phone spoke out for him. “Yeah,” Logan answered without anymore explanation. Aiden and Ben glanced at each other with concerned emotions etched onto their faces. “They set up a camera in there and I grabbed its feed.” Logan moved the computer for Ben and Aiden to both see.
“Look!” Aiden pointed at the screen at a teenage boy struggling against restrains. A staticky voice came through the feed, “Hey! What are you doing?” The boy asked, continuing to struggle. The head of cadet training, Iverson, motioned for two people in hazmat suits to hold the boy down. “Calm down, Tyler. We just need to keep you quarantined until we run some tests,” Tyler continued to struggle against the people in hazmat suits, “You have to listen to me! They destroy worlds!” He grunted as one of the people threw his shoulder into the table, “Aliens are coming!” “That's Tyler! The pilot of the Kerberos Mission! That guy was in our class!” Aiden looked completely shocked.
Ben watched the video feed for a moment longer, his fingers quickly tapping on the screen of his phone. “Guess he's not dead in space, after all,” the robotic voice echoed around him.
“But where's the rest of the crew?” Logan asked, his eyebrows furrowing as he scanned the screen for the other crew members.
“Do you know how long you've been gone?” Iverson asked Tyler. Tyler shot Iverson a disgusted look, “I don't know. Months? Years? Look, there's no time. Aliens are coming here for a weapon.” Tyler continued to ramble, “They're probably on their way. They'll destroy us. We have to find Voltron!” “Voltron?” Logan asked, staring at the screen in disbelief.
“Put him under,” Iverson instructed, “Until we figure out more,” Tyler freaked out, “Don't put me under! No! There's no time!” He assured them but one of the hazmat suited people stuck a needle into his arm.
The trio outside the tent watched as Tyler drifted off to sleep. “They didn't ask about the rest of the crew.” Logan frowned. “Why didn’t they ask about the rest of the crew?” “What are they doing? He's a legend. They're not even gonna listen to him?” Aiden exclaimed, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
“We have to get him out.” Logan decided, shutting his computer and stashing it into his backpack. Before Aiden and Logan could jump the gun and rush into the tent to save Tyler, Ben held up a hand as he tried to quickly type out his thoughts. “I hate to be the voice of reason, always, but weren't we watching on Logan’s computer because there was no way to get past the guards?” “That was before we were properly motivated,” Logan assured Ben with a pat on the shoulder before a large explosion rang out on the opposite side of the canyon.
“Is that the aliens? Are they here? They got here so quick!” Ben’s phone rang out after a moment. “No, those explosions were a distraction, for him.” Aiden pointed at a hooded figure parking a hover bike before they rushed into the tent where the Garrison was keeping Tyler.
“The Garrison's headed toward the blast, and he's sneaking in from the other side.” Aiden frowned.
“Who is that?” Ben’s phone asked before Logan and Aiden both jumped over the wall. “Only one way to find out!” Logan called up to the tall boy before the blonde and brunette started to sprint towards the tent.
Ben hesitated, glanced toward the distant explosion once more, then sprinted after them, his phone clutched tight in one hand.
Inside the tent, Tyler was still unconscious, his face pale against the cold metal table. Two people in hazmat suit were examining the unconscious boy as the hooded person walked into the tent. “These readings are off the chart,” One man said before the other noticed the hooded figure. “HEY!” The man shouted, pointing a gloved finger at the intruder.
But the hooded figure moved with a speed that didn’t seem quite possible. They knocked the two men unconscious swiftly and efficiently before rushing over to the table and yanking off their hood. “Tyler?” Taylor asked, her eyes seemingly playing a trick on her. She unbuckled her twin brother from the table before wrapping his arm around her shoulder. “Nope.” Aiden walked in with Logan right on his tail. “No, you— No, no, no. No, you don't. I'm saving Tyler,” “Who are you?” Taylor asked, before looking at Logan. “Logan?” “Hi Taylor,” Logan waved before looking around the tent. “Where’s the rest of the crew?” “No time for that! We need to get out of here before the Garrison grumps come back,” Aiden insisted.
Text from Logan’s phone rang out in the silence. “They’re on their way back. Now.” Logan pointed at the entrance where they had left Ben on look out.
Taylor glared at them, her eyes flitting between Aiden and Logan. But she could feel Tyler sagging against her, his breaths ragged. “Come on,” Taylor sighed, motioning with her free hand for Aiden to walk with her.
Logan followed after them, casting a nervous glance over his shoulder. "We're coming out," Logan sent a message to Ben, who was still outside the tent. As soon as they got outside, all 5 of them loaded onto Taylor’s hover bike, “Can we catch a ride with you? Thanks!” Aiden smiled at the hispanic girl as he climbed up on the bike after her.
“Is this thing going to be big enough for all of us?” Logan asked, as Aiden handed him Tyler. “No,” Taylor started the bike and took off as the Garrison professors and admin started to approach the tent. “Why am I holding this guy?” Logan asked, adjusting Tyler’s weight on him but careful not to let the boy fall off the bike.
“Can't this thing go any faster?” Aiden questioned, with a judgmental tone.
“We could toss out some non-essential weight,” Taylor shot back with a smirk on her face.
“Oh, right!” Aiden looked around for something to toss off the bike, “Okay, so that was an insult.” “Big guy! Lean left!” Taylor instructed to Ben. Ben leaned as instructed. His silent compliance added a much-needed stability to their chaotic escape. Tyler groaned softly in Logan's arms, stirring but not waking.
“Aw, man! Mr. Harris just wiped out Professor Montgomery! No, no. He's fine,” Logan assured the rest of the group. Taylor rolled her eyes.
“Big guy, lean right!” Taylor instructed Ben again and he did as he was told. “Guys? Is that a cliff up ahead?” Logan asked with stammer in his voice.
“Oh, no, no, no!” Aiden protested. “Yup,” Taylor smirked and pressed on the gas pedal. “No, no, no!” Logan and Aiden screamed as the bike approached the edge of the cliff.
“What are you doing? You're going to kill us all!” Logan asked, regret of this adventure seeping into his voice. “Shut up and trust me!” Taylor commanded, her grip tightening on the handlebars. As their speed increased, the ground beneath them dropped away and for a moment they were suspended in air.
————— In the morning, Taylor walked out to where Tyler had been admiring the sunset. “Hey Ty,” She greeted her brother.
"Hey Tay," Tyler responded, not taking his eyes off the horizon. He was sitting on a rock, legs folded beneath him in criss cross applesauce.
“It's good to have you back,” Taylor moved and sat down next to Tyler.
Tyler turned and looked at her with a faint smile on his face. “It's good to be back,” Taylor smiled back before laying into the questions, “So, what happened out there? Where were you?”
“I wish I could tell you, Tay. My head is still pretty scrambled from the whole experience,” Tyler shook his head softly. “I was on an alien ship, but somehow I escaped. It's all a blur. But, how did you know to come save me when I crashed?” “You should come see this,” Taylor stood up and offered Tyler her hand.
——— “What have you been working on, Taylor?” Tyler asked as Taylor yanked a cloth off the cork board on the wall. Logan, Aiden and Ben paused what they were doing and looked over at the twins.
“I can't explain it, really,” Taylor looked at the bulletin board, “After getting booted from the Garrison, I was kind of lost and found myself drawn out to this place. It's like something some energy, was telling me to search,” “Search for what?” Aiden asked.
“Well, I didn't really know at the time until I stumbled across this area,” Taylor pointed at a picture that was almost out of her reach, “It's an outcropping of giant boulders with caves covered in these ancient markings. Each tells a slightly different story about a blue lion, but they all share clues leading to some event, some arrival happening last night,” She turned to Tyler, “Then, you showed up.” A thought dawned on Tyler, “I probably should thank you all for helping Tay get me out of there,” He extended his hand towards Aiden. “Aiden, right?”
Aiden nodded and took Tyler’s hand in his. After a firm handshake, Tyler moved to Logan and Ben. “The quiet guy is Ben. I’m Logan. So, did anyone else from your crew make it out?” “Uh, I’m not sure. Everything is a bit of a daze still,” Tyler frowned, “Sorry,” “It’s okay, don’t worry about it,” Logan assured Tyler.
Ben typed up something on his phone, “Yeah, sorry to interrupt, but back to the aliens. Where are they now? Are they coming? Are they coming for us? Where are they at this very moment?” Everyone chuckled at the automated voice messing up a few words at the general repetitiveness of the message. “I can't really put it together. I remember the word ‘Voltron.’ It's some kind of weapon they're looking for, but I don't know why,” Tyler paused, “Whatever it is, I think we need to find it before they do.” Ben quickly typed up another message, “Well, last night, I was rummaging through Logan’s stuff, and-” “Why were you going through my stuff?” Logan asked, cutting off the automated voice. Ben rolled his eyes softly before typing out a new message and letting it play. “I watched a lady bug crawl in. But, then, I started reading his diary.” “What?” Logan asked, grabbing the book Ben pulled out of his pocket away from the taller boy. Ben’s message kept playing out of the phone, “I noticed the repeating series of numbers the aliens are searching for -looks a lot like a Fraunhofer line.” “Frown who?” Taylor asked with a frown on her face.
Ben typed a reply quickly, “It's a number describing the emission spectrum of an element, only, this element doesn't exist on Earth. I thought it might be this Voltron. I think can build a machine to look for it, like a Voltron finder,” Aiden stared at his cousin in shock as the tall boy pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket. Ben typed up one more message before opening the paper up. “The wavelength looks like this.” “Give me that!” Taylor demanded before holding it up to the picture she had pointed to earlier. The two pictures, the graph and photograph, matched up perfectly.
———
“Okay, I admit it. This is super freaky.” Aiden mumbled under his breath as the group traversed the desert plateaus. “I'm getting a reading.” Taylor looked at the small device that Ben had put together and given her to read. “This way,” She pulled Logan, who’s bag was filled with the rest of the equipment and attached to the device in Taylor’s hand, in the direction of the reading.
After a while of walking, they came across a cave. Adorning the walls was several carvings, no, hundreds of carvings of a female lion.
“Whoa.” The group looked around and gasped simultaneously. Tyler turned towards Taylor, “What are these?” “These are the lion carvings I was telling you about,” Taylor assured Tyler, before dragging her hand over the dust on the wall. Immediately the carving lit up bright blue and shined in Taylor’s face. Taylor jumped back into Tyler’s arms as the ground crumbled beneath the small group. Everyone screamed as the floor collapsed and shot them down a slide like earth fixture. “TAYLOR!” Aiden complained as soon they landed. “Why do you and Ben feel the need to touch everything?” Ben turned and glared at Aiden, but remained quiet as usual. “I didn’t know that touching the wall would make the floor collapse,” Taylor told Aiden, everyone turned toward a large giant Lion with a force field. “Is this it? Is this the Voltron?” Tyler asked. “It must be,” Logan took the tracker device out of Taylor’s hand. “This is what's been causing all of this crazy energy out here.” “Looks like there's a force field around it.” Aiden point out as Taylor and he started to walk up to it.
“Does anyone else get the feeling this is staring at them?” Taylor asked, moving slightly. “No,” Tyler followed his sister and the blonde up to the lion. “Hm, yeah no. It’s definitely following me,” Taylor decided. Aiden walked up and gently put his hands on the force field. “I wonder how we get through this,” Taylor smirked as a idea popped into her head, “Maybe you just have to knock,” She rapped her fingers against the cool energy field, it immediately fell away. “AH!” Taylor jumped back slightly. A vision of a large robotic man appeared in all five kids minds. “Woah,” Logan looked up at the lion.
“Uh, did everyone just see that?” Tyler asked, rubbing his head slightly. “Voltron is a robot.” Aiden muttered as if in a trance, “Voltron is a huge, huge, awesome robot.” “And this thing is only one part of it! I wonder where the rest of them are.” Taylor mused as she walked up to the lion. “This is what they're looking for,” Tyler whispered, mostly to himself. “Incredible.” The lion stood up as Taylor approached, and Ben and Logan screamed. “Come on babies! Let’s check it out!” “Hate to be a voice of reason, like ever, but Taylor stop touching things!” Aiden ran after the girl as she darted into the Lion.
Tyler motioned for Ben and Logan to follow him after the other two. Ben typed something up on his phone quickly, “Isn’t this a bad idea?” “Yeah but it’s a fun idea, live a little,” Tyler smirked before walking up into the lion as well. Ben and Logan glanced at each other once before following Tyler into the ship. As soon as they entered the lion, Aiden turned to them. “Okay, guys, I feel the need to point out, just so that we're all aware. We are in some kind of futuristic alien cat head right now.” “Yup,” Taylor smirked, moving to sit down. She put her hands on the controls.
As soon as she did, a deep purring spoke through her head. “Woah,” She turned to the rest of the group, “Did you guys just hear that?” “Hear what?” Logan asked, looking at Taylor. Taylor looked around the small cockpit, “I think it's talking to me.” She mumbled, before moving the controls around. The lion immediately took off, and the lion shot out of the cave.
Aiden, Logan and Ben grabbed each other and screamed. Tyler started at them in disbelief for a moment before turning his attention to Taylor. “Careful Tay,” He pointed out a rock formation. Taylor responded immediately, moving the controls around to avoid the obstacle. “You are the worst pilot ever!” Logan screamed as Taylor sent the Lion into a spiral.
With an eager grin, Taylor turned to the others and exclaimed, “Isn't this awesome?” Taylor asked. “Make it stop.” Logan begged, “Make it stop,” “I’m not doing anything.” Taylor promised, “It's like it's on autopilot.” The Lion steered itself towards the atmosphere, “Where are you going?” Aiden asked, stumbling as the lion rocked violently.
“I just said it's on autopilot!” Taylor insisted, “It says there's an alien ship approaching Earth. I think we're supposed to stop it.” “What did it say, exactly?” Tyler asked, leaning forward to look out the window.
“It's not like it's saying words.” Taylor felt the eyes of all 4 boys fall onto her in disgust and disbelief, “It's more like feeding ideas into my brain, kind of.”
“If this thing is the weapon they're coming for, why don't we just, I don't know, give it to them? Maybe they'll leave us alone.” Ben’s phone read out for him. Tyler turned, offended, “You don't understand,” He assured Ben, “These monsters spread like a plague throughout the galaxy, destroying everything in their path.” Ben gulped, clearly distressed but Tyler continued, “There's no bargaining with them. They won't stop until everything is dead.” “Okay, he gets it,” Aiden defending, “Don’t lay into him like that,” They all turned to see an alien ship entering the space around Earth’s atmosphere. Taylor interrupted the boys before a huge argument could erupt, “Okay, I think I know what to do.” She pushed the controls forward and the lion shot forward into the sky.
“Hey! This isn't a simulator,” Logan reminded Taylor as the Lion reached the exosphere. “That’s good. I always crashed the simulation when I was in school,” She smirked at Logan who gave her a panicked look. “That’s not calming!” Logan told Taylor as the girl moved the controls around. “Let’s try this!” She exclaimed as she pushed the controls forward. The jaw of the lion open and a beam of energy shot out towards the alien ship. The energy beam hit the side of the alien ship, causing a series of bright, violent explosions to ripple across its metallic hull. “Nice job, Tay,” “I think it's time to get these guys away from our planet.” Taylor said, piloting the lion away from Earth. They got a good distance before the alien ship started to follow them. “Oh no,” Tyler mumbled under his breath. “They're gaining on us!” Logan panicked, pushing the back of Taylor’s seat. “It's weird. They're not trying to shoot us. They're just chasing.” Taylor observed, her fingers nimbly adjusting the controls as she kept a steady eye on the pursuing ship.
Aiden put his hands up to get everyone’s attention, “Okay, seriously, now we think having aliens follow us is good? I am not on board with this new direction, guys.” “Where are we?” Ben’s phone read out, the digital voice cutting through the noise in the cockpit.
“Edge of the solar system. There's Kerberos,” Logan pointed at the moon of Pluto. “That’s impossible, it took us months to get out here,” Tyler gasped in disbelief, “We got out here in five seconds.” A spherical opening, a distorted sphere with a glowing center opened up in front of the lion. It was a good distance away but the Lion seemed to be dead set on going through.
“A wormhole of sorts, where does it go?” Logan asked Taylor, who struggled and said she didn’t know.
“Tyler, you're the senior officer here. What should we do?” Taylor looked up at her brother.
Tyler looked at the other kids, “Whatever is happening, the lion knows more than we do.” Tyler looked at Aiden, who nodded, “I say we trust it, but we're a team now. We should decide together.” Taylor glanced around, all for boys nodded at her. “Alright, guess you’re all skipping class tomorrow,” She pushed the controls forward and the Lion shot into the wormhole.
———— As they exited the wormhole, an entirely new vista unfolded before their eyes. Kaleidoscopic patterns of nebulae painted the alien sky, with twinkling stars that seemed to breathe and pulse with life. “Where are we?” Ben’s phone read out again, its digital voice sounding even more surreal amidst this cosmic seascape.
“I have no clue,” Logan answered, “I don’t recognize any of these star patterns,” “Me neither,” Tyler looked out the window at the sky. “We must be a long, long way from Earth.” The lion approached a earth like planet, “The lion seems to want to go to this planet.” Taylor told the boys, “I think I think it's going home.” The lion soared into the planet’s atmosphere, plunging through plumes of vibrant, iridescent clouds. As they broke through the final layer, a sprawling cityscape came into view, nestled amidst a lush expanse of emerald-green forests and crystalline rivers.
"Doesn't look like anything from our textbooks," Aiden remarked, his eyes wide with awe.
“Um, is it just me or is anyone else having second thoughts about flying through a mysterious wormhole? Why are we listening to a robotic lion anyway?” Logan asked as the Lion approached a castle like building. “It got us away from that alien warship, didn't it?” Taylor shot back. “I don't know if you noticed, but we're in an alien warship.” Tyler pointed out, patting Taylor on the head.
“Oh, are you scared?” Taylor teased. “With you at the helm? Terrified,” Tyler poked the side of her face before turning his attention to the castle they were approaching.
The castle was enormous, a towering structure of gleaming spires and arching buttresses that seemed to shimmer with an ethereal light. As they landed, Tyler pulled everyone’s attention to him. “No one's happy to be in this situation, but we're here now. If we want to get through this, we've got to do it together.” “Yes sir,” Aiden gave a teasing salute.
“Don’t do that,” Tyler crossed his arms.
“Look at that castle though,” Taylor got out of the pilot seat and tried to book it out of the lion. Tyler grabbed her arm and stopped her, “Keep your guard up.” “Is something wrong Tyler?” Logan asked, cautiously prodding for information. Tyler turned to him, “My crew was captured by aliens once. I'm not going to let it happen again,” As soon as the kids were out of the lion and walking up to the castle, the lion moved. “No! I knew it was going to eat us! No!” Logan screeched, covering his head with his hands. The lion roared and the entrance to the castle opened. “No, it’s just opening the door for us,” Aiden pointed out, touching Logan’s shoulder. The slightly taller boy looked up and sighed in relief. Taylor ran into the castle, “Hello?” She called out into the pitch black foyer. “Taylor! Be careful!” Tyler scolded his sister as the boys walked in after her.
“I am!” Taylor promised, “Hello? Is anyone there?” “Please hold for identity scan,” A voice called out before a beam of light scanned over the five kids.
“What? Why are we here? What do you want with us?” Logan asked as the beam stopped scanning them. Lights leading down the hall flickered on, “Guess we’re going that way,” Aiden started walking down the hall. As they all walked down the hall, the lights continued to flick on, lighting and leading their way. Eventually, they were lead to a room with two cryo-pods. Ben typed up a quick message on his phone and played it out for everyone, “Where are we?” “It's some kind of control room,” Logan observed, scanning the unfamiliar technology around them with a hit of curiosity. “Are these guys dead?” Aiden asked, tapping onto one of the cryo-pods. The pod opened with a hiss of air and a red headed girl fell out, her knees buckling as she called out, “Dad!” Aiden leaped forward and caught her, “Hello there,”
“Who are you? Where am I?” The girl asked, looking up into Aiden’s eyes. Aiden smirked, “I’m Aiden, and you’re right here in my arms,”
"Quit the flirt, Aiden. We're not in a rom-com," Tyler grumbled, stepping forward and offering a hand to the girl. “Who are you people?” The girl asked, pushing Aiden to the ground as she took Tyler’s hand. Tyler helped her up. “Where is King Mike? What are you doing in my castle? “A blue lion brought us here,” Taylor butted in. “How do you have the Blue Lion? What happened to its paladin? What are you all doing here? Unless,” She paused, “How long has it been?” “We don’t know what your talking about,” Logan said as the girl pushed away from Tyler and walked over to a small panel sticking out of the floor and started typing on it. “Why don't you tell us who you are? Maybe we can help.” Tyler suggested, sticking his hands in his shorts pockets. “I am Princess Ashlyn of Planet Altea,” Ashlyn informed the earthlings, “I've got to find out where we are and how long we've been asleep.” Logan looked over her shoulder, “Okay, that's how that works. What is that language though?” A man groaned before Ashlyn could answer. He fell out of his pod before jumping up, “Enemy combatants!” “Nope! Nope!” Taylor assured him otherwise, “We’re friendly, I promise,” The man looked skeptical but stood at ease. “It can't be.” Ashlyn gasped, covering her mouth. “What is it?” The man asked, suddenly very worried for the princess. “We've been asleep for 10,000 years.” Ashlyn stared forward, “Planet Altea and all of the planets in our solar system have been destroyed. Alex, Father is gone. Our entire civilization,”
“Maverick,” Alex shook his head is disbelief. “Maverick?” Logan asked in confusion.
“He was the King of the Galra. A vile creature and enemy to all free people.” Ashlyn started to sink onto the floor. “I remember now, I was his prisoner,” Tyler crossed his arms over his chest. “He's still alive? Impossible!” Alex stared at Tyler in disbelief and distrust. “I can't explain it, but it's true,” Tyler nodded, “He's searching for a super weapon called Voltron.” Ashlyn stood back up, “He's searching for it because he knows it's the only thing that can defeat him, and that's exactly why we must find it before he does,” “We?” Aiden interrupted, “Why us?

17. Family
It was just an ordinary game night. Except Kara was sure something was...unusual. Yes, there was as always the pitter-patter of her neighbors minding their usual business, the low dull of the city going to sleep, steady heartbeats of her two favorite people in the whole world: Lena and Alex. And yet there was something, something... Ah, yes, there it is - the small flutter of wings. She thought it could be a hummingbird, but they rarely can be seen in National City. When what is it? This sound was making her curious for quite a bit now.
"Guys, have you heard anything strange or unusual lately?" she asked her friends in hope to find an answer.
"No, I haven't. Even my dreams weren't bad lately" said Nia.
"Me neither" said Brainy "Everything is quite the same"
"What do you mean, Kara?" asked her sister anxiously "Have you heard something or is something off for you?"
"No! No, nothing drastic or catastrophic. There is this small noise I keep hearing lately, though, and I'm wondering if..."
"Oh God... Oh my God, I think I know what is it." said Lena, visibly shaken. "I just thought I will make some test first to be a hundred percent sure, but now I don't need them, I guess..."
"Lena, honey, please don't scare me now, what is it?"
"Darling, I am pregnant. I was suspicious for a couple of weeks, but you just confirmed it by hearing our baby's heartbeat." Lena didn't notice, how a couple of traitorous tears were sliding down her cheeks."I'm sorry, I didn't tell you earlier"
"I think it's our clue to leave them alone now" Kelly was as diplomatic as always.
"Yes, but don't even think about hiding after these news, I wanna know everything. Can't believe I'm gonna be an aunt!" Alex couldn't contain her excitement.
When they were finally alone, Kara had put her hand on her wife's cheek and said softly "I cant believe this is real. We were trying for months now, love, and I couldn't even recognize their heartbeat! I feel so silly now..."
"Please don't, darling, the blame is on me, for not realizing sooner"
"Ok, let's not blame anyone. Let's just enjoy this moment together. This is such a precious gift! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Kara gave her love a sweet kiss.
"I love you" with Lena's smile you could light up a whole world. Kara's world.
"I love you more. And I love them already" was her wife's teary answer.
Yes, sometimes family is something you create with other people, rather than the people you grew up with. And it could be so much better.

Heroes in the Night
read on Ao3
words: 1737
They stood in awkward silence for a few moments until words tumbled out of his mouth before he could properly think them. “Did you mean what you said? Back in the woods?” If he didn’t know any better, he would have thought he could see Ford’s eyes shine a little as he turned away at the question, as if trying to think of how best to answer it. For a moment, Stan thought he wouldn’t answer, and was gearing up to say something else when four words were murmured so sincerely it made his knees shake.
--
The living room was dark and musty, filled with the sound of quiet snores. It was strangely comforting, Stan thought, as he tried relentlessly to cling onto fleeting memories. These people hadn’t left his side for hours, and now he was the only one left awake.
From where he sat on the armchair, his tired gaze wandered toward the girl curled up next to him, scrapbook still in hand. In the moonlight that filtered through the broken window, he could see the tear tracks on her cheeks glisten as if to taunt him. Her slack face still held some tension, and without really thinking about it, he swept some of the hair from her eyes. Under her breath, she mumbled something about pancakes and snuggled up closer to him, her cheek squishing against his arm.
Mabel, he thought. His head might be all messed up, but the only thing that mattered was that when he looked at her, he knew he would do anything for that child. I’m so sorry I made you cry, pumpkin.
On the other side of him, curled up on the arm of the armchair, was the boy, using his vest as a blanket, a pained look on his face. He reminded him so much of someone else. He didn’t have the tear tracks like his sister did, but he didn’t look very peaceful either. Slowly, Stan lifted a hand, running it up and down Dipper’s back soothingly. He watched as the kid’s face slowly relaxed. A quiet sigh passed through Stan’s lips as he gradually stopped rubbing his back. To his relief, Dipper stayed relaxed. This kid was sometimes too smart for his own good, sometimes drove him completely crazy, but he would do anything for him, too.
Dipper and Mabel. How could he have ever forgotten them, even with some fancy scientific machine?
On the floor by his feet was the young man who stayed by his side for years when no one else did. From what he could remember, Soos had spent countless nights on this floor and Stan had never had the heart to wake him and tell him to go home. Now, he lay on his stomach, his face turned toward the chair, quiet snores sounding like they were almost trembling. Gently, careful not to jostle Mabel beside him, Stan reached behind him to grab the blanket folded on the back of the chair. He leaned down, covering Soos with it, who smiled in his sleep for just a moment, contagious enough that it made Stan smile a little, too.
He didn’t understand what he’d done to earn Soos’ loyalty. He had a feeling he still had no clue even when he did have all his memories. Maybe he never would. Maybe that was okay.
Finally, his gaze lifted. Sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall beneath the window, was his brother. His arms were folded loosely over his chest, his glasses askew, his head leaning against the wall behind him while he snored quietly. Stan’s heart felt somewhat heavy gazing upon the face that looked so much like his own, knowing that reuniting with his brother had been the only thing on his mind for thirty years.
We had to erase his mind to defeat Bill. It’s all gone. He saved the world. He saved me. You’re our hero, Stanley.
The first clear memory he had, a man approaching him, kneeling down to his level, his voice cracking with emotion as he threw his arms around his neck. In the moment, Stan hadn’t been able to do anything. He hadn’t known who this person was. He hadn’t known his own name. He sure didn’t feel like anyone’s hero.
But he never had. That much, he remembered.
Suddenly, Ford began mumbling incoherently. Stan had been too lost in his thoughts and jumbled memory that he hadn’t noticed his brother’s creased forehead, or the sheen of sweat along his brow. His body seemed tense, his head jerking back and forth as if he were fighting something off. Stan bit his lip so hard that he tasted blood, and quickly snatched up Waddles from the floor beneath him, leaning Mabel against the pig so he could stand up. She didn’t stir.
“Poindexter. Hey.” Stan knelt down, placing a hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Easy, buddy. I gotcha. You’re safe.”
The incoherent mumbling continued while he spoke, rapidly increasing, more and more distress appearing on Ford’s face. “Stan…ley,” he murmured, the first word he was able to make out. Stan tightened his grip on the other’s shoulder.
“It’s a dream. Wake up!”
A deep gasp rattled through Ford’s body as his eyes shot open, his chest heaving as if each breath were a chore. His somewhat bloodshot eyes darted nervously around the room until finally landing on Stan, who was making a face he was sure he’d rather be caught dead making. “S-Stanley,” Ford’s voice trembled uncertainly as he fixed his glasses. “You…what…”
“It was a dream,” he cut him off, tightening his grip once again. “You had me worried there, Sixer, sayin’ all this nonsense under your breath like you were finally goin’ insane after all these years.”
Ford released a breath he probably didn’t realize he was holding, his gaze drifting toward the hand on his shoulder, which Stan promptly removed. “I…I apologize for waking you.”
Rolling his eyes, Stan stood up slowly, his knees cracking as he did so. “Can it, Stanford. I’m gonna get you some water. Just sit tight.”
Carefully stepping over Soos, he moved toward the kitchen, shuffling around in the dark to find a clean (enough) glass, placing it under the kitchen faucet. Rubbing a hand over his face, he couldn’t help but feel useless. He couldn’t remember . Everyone here had these expectations of him, of who he was or who he should be, just like his stupid parents -
“The water is overflowing.” Suddenly, Ford was standing beside him, flicking the faucet off. Stan blinked, turning to see that the glass was, in fact, filled to the brim, water trickling down the sides. “Are you…alright?”
Of course he wasn’t alright. His brain didn’t make sense, everyone seemed to be walking on eggshells around him, and his brother was asking him if he was alright after just having…whatever dream he was having.
Instead, he scoffed. “I should be asking you that.”
Normally, Ford would probably get defensive. Maybe it was the middle of the night talking, or because it was a few hours after all the weirdness, but he just sighed, leaning back against the kitchen counter. “I suppose it’s hard for both of us to answer that question right now.”
Stan watched him for a moment, seeing bruises still lining his jaw, peeking out from his collarbone under his sweater. He didn’t have to ask what the dream was about to know, and he knew his brother enough to know that he definitely wasn’t the sharing type. He sighed, picking up the glass to hand to him. “Things still aren’t all there, up here,” he admitted, knocking his head softly with a fist as Ford took a sip. “Heh, but I guess that ain’t so different from before.”
“Stanley,” Ford said, with his usual seriousness as he placed the glass back down to face him. Awkwardly, he looked at the floor, then back up at him. “I-I know you’re a little confused right now, but you are important. To the kids, to…to me. You don’t have to talk about yourself like that.”
If it weren’t for the kids sleeping in the other room, he might have laughed in Ford’s face. Of course he had to talk about himself like that. It was all he’d ever been told, all his life, but then…the expression on his brother’s face was not unlike that of a kicked puppy. Stan sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Okay, okay, I…I get it.” They stood in awkward silence for a few moments until words tumbled out of his mouth before he could properly think them. “Did you mean what you said? Back in the woods?”
If he didn’t know any better, he would have thought he could see Ford’s eyes shine a little as he turned away at the question, as if trying to think of how best to answer it. For a moment, Stan thought he wouldn’t answer, and was gearing up to say something else when four words were murmured so sincerely it made his knees shake.
“I meant every word.” Once it was said, Ford turned to face him again. “I used to think of myself as the hero, but Bill tricked me countless times. In the face of danger, you were the one with the cool head. You were the one who tricked the trickster, at the cost of your own mind. Not many people have the will to do that. I…don’t know if I could have.” He released a shaky sigh. “You never gave up on me. All these years later, I’m left thinking exactly what I thought when we were kids. You are my hero, Stanley.”
Stan drew in breath, realizing he hadn’t breathed the entire time Ford had been talking. His head buzzed and his eyes burned, which he attributed to the broken pieces of memory swirling in there and not at the fact that his vision was growing blurry with hot tears. Without a word, he grabbed Ford by the shoulders and pulled him into a tight hug, which was promptly returned.
“Yeah, well…you’re not so bad yourself, Poindexter.”
He wasn’t sure how long they stood there in that dark kitchen, but all he knew was that this was quite overdue. When his eyes had dried, he pulled away, wondering if he was imagining the shine in Ford’s eyes, too, and smiled tiredly. Ford returned it.
“We ought to go back to the living room, in case the children wake up…”
“Wouldn’t want to worry ‘em.”
The kids were exactly where they had last left them, and Ford and Stan Pines sat on the ground together, shoulder to shoulder to watch them in silence. Things weren’t okay, but that was okay, Stan thought, as Ford’s head fell onto his shoulder, snoring softly.
“For what it’s worth, Stanford…” he mumbled through a yawn, closing his eyes. “You’re my hero, too.”
For once, he fell asleep with a smile on his face.

something like that
Theseus Scamander x gn!reader
You believe the ministry isn’t trying their hardest to capture Grindlewald. Theseus gets angry that you don’t believe in them and causes reader to find things out themselves.
warnings: sad :(
It’s been months since the ministry was able to find any clue about what happened to Grindlewald. Their last lead had them in Paris where many Aurors had met their fate.
You’d been to the ministry loads of times after, but each time you went everything seemed so chill. Like the most dangerous and powerful wizard wasn’t trying to create war between wizards and No-Majs.
You tried voicing your complaints to your boyfriend and the head Auror, Theseus Scamander. But he all but shrugged his shoulders when you mentioned it.
It wasn’t any different this time.
You and Theseus stood in his office, his attention not completely focused on you.
“I’m positive everything is going the way it should be. There’s no need to worry.” He said his eyes focused on the stack of papers on his desk.
You didn’t say anything in return. It was like he really didn’t care that this was happening. As if everyone didn’t care that this was happening. You’ve watched every Auror in and out of this building live there lives like it wasn’t at risk everyday.
“Look I know it’s scary. But I promise your in good hands, there’s nothing you should be worried about.” He said, with a lack of response he looked up. You were staring off into space, lost in a world of thoughts.
“I just don’t get why you can’t try harder.” You stated after a moment of silence.
He stood there, stunned.
“Excuse me?” He asked as a genuine question.
“It just seems to me like your not really doing anything. Like your team just doesn’t care.” You spoke up.
Theseus’ eyebrows furrowed, a frown cascading down his face.
“My team is working the hardest they can, just because you can’t see it on the outside doesn’t mean they aren’t doing anything.” He said, his body tensed up as he sat down.
“Now if you don’t mind I have some paperwork to do.” He spoke angrily, hinting for you to leave.
With no second thought your body vanished from the room leaving Theseus to his own thoughts. How could he sit here and just wait for Grindelwald to make a move? At that point it would be too late. He has already took enough from wizards, and his next move might just corrupt the wizarding world forever. You couldn't just sit there and wait. You knew his last place of action. And though most of the mausoleum had been destroyed by the fire, you figured there might be some clues for you to find. After packing and contacting your illegal portkey man you set off to Paris. ----- Seeing the rubble made you second guess yourself. The cemetery was huge, and even months after the accident it had looked fresh. Echo's of the event sounded in your head, reminding you of exactly what went down. Queenie, someone you came to love. Her gentle voice, her calming personality. And the fact that she could literally read your mind. You didn't have to say anything, she understood you in a way no one else ever could. Leta, Theseus' former. She was a lovely person. Someone who in the end only thought of herself as a monster. The girl. Only in times to vow for what she believed in. Killed in cold blood. The growing flames of the blue dragons. The feeling of complete uselessness trying to dissipate the flames. You were utterly distracted. The spell placed around the ruins doing its purpose. Three figures stood behind you. Dark. Ominous. Red dazed your vision as you crashed to the ground, writhing in pain. ----- You felt the throbbing in your veins before noticing anything else. Heart beat quickened as you realize what happened. Sitting up, you took in your surroundings. Queenie sat in a chair in front of you. Face pale, skinnier than when you had last seen her. You were on the ground, cold concrete, so were the walls. She stood up from the chair and made her way around your body. Leaving out a metal door behind you. Only after turning to watch her leave do you realize your arms were chained to the ground. You weren't alone for long. The door scraped open behind you. You kept your head low. "I assumed someone would have gotten these chains off of you." He spoke. "Not like you really have any place to go." A shudder ran through your body. He was different. A different aura. "Sorry for my ungrateful hospitality, would you get these off her please." Grindelwald spoke. Palms reached for your arms, untangling your wrists from their shackles. Immediately you reached for your wand. "I'm sorry sweetness but of course I have to take my own precautions too." He said pulling out your wand from his coat, waving it in your direction. He stuffed it back into his pocket. "Now we have a lot to talk about." ----- "Where could she have gone?!" Theseus yelled. He had walked to your office to ask you some questions about your paperwork. You weren't there. He called his brother, Newt, over to help him find you. "Well I'm not too sure, I don't really have a tracker on her." Newt spoke. "Everything is still here so she couldn't have gone home." Theseus spoke. "Let me see her jacket." Newt spoke, his arm open for his brother to place it in. Creating a type of tracker new did locate where your last location was. But it only led him and Theseus to a small alley way. "Maybe she got robbed! Or kidnaped!" Theseus spoke. "I'm sure she's strong enough on her own to fight off a robber. Plus it would have shown us where she was if that was the case. She had to have taken a portkey. But to where?" "We were talking about Grindelwald the last time I saw her. You dont think..." "We have to go"
----- After arriving, the jacket continued to lead them where you had visited. The ruins seemed to have the same effect on them that it did on you. They stood still. Crunching leaves alerted them, finally allowing them an escape from the past. You stood there. Only it wasn't you. A hollow shell of the bright mind that once had hold over your body. Your wand was raised. Pointed at only Theseus. "y/n?" He spoke softly. Not even a blink. Figures appeared from smoke behind you. Credence, Abernathy, Vinda, Krall, Queenie. And finally Him himself. Newt and Theseus drew their wands. "What did you do to her?" Theseus voice almost broke. "Whatever do you mean?" Grindelwald spoke. "Look at her!" He screamed. He didn't have to turn around to see you. Under a charm that holds you a hostage. Trapped in your mind. Forced to watch. Grindelwald smirked. "I'm going to FUCKING KILL YOU!" Theseus screamed. A beam of orange threw itself out of his wand. No incantation. The black smoke covered anything that could be seen. But as it cleared up it was only you. On the ground. They both ran up to you. Theseus took your head in his lap, lightly tapping his palm to your cheek. "y/n?" He whispered. It wasn't a terribly strong spell. But you were weak. Frail. Paper. Your head felt weightless in his lap. Like you were a figment of his imagination. Newt sat there. No words. Only staring at his brother. He had reached down to your neck. No pulse. "What did he do to you." Theseus cried. Regret. Shame. He should have listened to you. He shouldn't have just brushed you off. To be totally honest the ministry wasn't trying as hard as they could have. They were waiting for him to make a reappearance. Anger. Why? Why would you come back here as if you had any authority in the first place. As if you wouldn't just remember everything that had happened when you showed up and realized you couldn't do it on your own. You knew how dangerous this was and you were still so stupid to do it. "You knew we were at least trying! We had an eye on his every move. So why! Why would you do this! To your job! Your family! Me." His tears continued to fall. Landing along your skin. Dripping on your forehead and your chin, falling down the sides of your neck. Your skin glowed. Weight finally pressed into his thighs. He looked down. Your eyes meeting. "Your alive?!" He got up. Pulling you by your shoulders to sit upright. Newt supported your back. Completely in awe that your still here. "He only kept me in my head. Your spell must have cracked the curse." You smiled up at him. "Or it could have been his love." Newt whispered. You blushed. "You cant scare me like that again, I wont let you leave me." He said pulling you into a tight hug. "I'm sorry for not paying attention to you. But you have to realize how dangerous this all was for you. Please make me listen to you next time, I cant live without you." He whispered. "I love you." "I love you too"

From @pomegranate29: #very well deserved#but not super helpful#im already subscribed#seriously echo is amazing
Agreed!
Okay so I'm guessing this is an invitation for more recommendations for authors who need more attention? There's definitely some more, though I'm gonna try and avoid authors I've already recced on underappreciated authors lists. Honestly the authors I want to rec right now are really just for single fics. Still, I think they could use more attention. These are all ongoing fics, btw.
The Queens Requiem by TinyTulip
Chloe Bourgeois fled Paris hoping to escape the wreckage of her past, but New York isn't offering the fresh start she envisioned. Her mother is pushing her relentlessly into the spotlight, determined to mold Chloe into a star, despite her resistance. Meanwhile, mysterious ghost attacks plague the city. Chloe finds herself drawn into a web of supernatural chaos—and an unexpected encounter with two stolen Miraculous. In a city where heroes rise and fall, can she find her own path to redemption or will the shadows of her past keep her trapped? Before she could process what was happening, two swirling balls of light zipped past her, transforming in mid-air. In an instant, two small creatures materialized before her—a bear and a raven, their eyes gleaming with mischief. “Greetings! I am Mato, kwami of the bear,” “And I am Kalanv, kwami of the raven,” Chloe’s heart raced, her mind spiraling into panic. “What the—?!” “Surprise!” Mato beamed, grinning broadly. Chloe stumbled back, “What is going on?!” “Welcome to your new destiny!” Kalanv chirped, unfurling its wings. *Lots of angst before main plot kicks off*
This might just end up being the greatest Chloedemption fic I've ever read, if it continues being this good. It's set post-season 5, with Chloe being dragged to New York City by her mom and being forced through a grueling set of media appearances and lessons in order to rehabilitate her image. She ends up thoroughly regretting wanting her mother's attention.
She does, however, end up desiring the attention of Zoe's father, David. He's willing to make deals with her and try to help her with what she needs... but there's going to be strings attached that she doesn't understand. She even hears him threatening Zoe at one point, so she has some clue about what sort of person he is, but she desperately wants to believe that he genuinely cares for her, for her own psychological wellbeing. Chloe isn't solely surrounded by horrible people though. She runs into the Ghostforce crew and ends up making friends with them, getting a fresh start, though she has to learn how to actually do that.
I just really love how this fic is delving in-depth into Chloe's thoughts and feelings, while also setting up this large-scale conflict between David Lee's machinations and those of the heroes', with Chloe likely being the deciding factor on who "wins" this war.

Tales of Mamba Verte and Yamata by YukiEden
In a universe ruled by the self-proclaimed divine being called the Supreme, the world is repeatedly divided into two factions. Those who side with the Supreme and those who are against him. This is the story of both sides clashing and overlapping...
This is the most in-depth worldbuilding I've seen for the Reverse world, with getting to actually see the Supreme and getting an idea of how he sets up his followers, how he pits them against each other, and a bit about how the world runs.
What I really love, though, is the focus on Luka. This fic mainly revolves around Luka and Kagami, but moreso on Luka. I have trouble connecting with the guy normally, but here? YukiEden does a good job of showcasing his reasoning, his ideals, in such a way that he feels in line with canon!Luka, while still being his own unique entity. I always appreciate when a fic lets me connect with the guy, since he's one I tend to have trouble doing that with.

The Beauty Of A Rose by properjitterbug
Welcome to the Roaring 1920's! In the small town of Bellerose, Marinette and Adrien are childhood friends while secretly pining for each other. They lead happy lives until one day a long, forgotten promise is stirred awake; changing their lives in ways they couldn't imagine. Forced to become a beast from legend, Adrien vanishes overnight, leaving his loved ones with no explanation, and Marinette to tend a broken heart. With time marching on, Marinette is left to chase after ghosts of her past, while Adrien learns to accept his inner beast, and the courage to free himself from his enchanted isolation. But their trials are far from over—a mysterious illness sweeps through Bellerose, forcing them to embrace their powers in a desperate fight for their loved ones. HEA. Arc 1: Chapters 1-11: Complete Arc 2: Chapters 12-?: In Progress -- Werecat!Adrien x Marinette
This one's rated M for smut, so keep that in mind.
It's a fantastic Fantasy AU, which I'm a sucker for. I love Adrien slowly learning how to cope with his new circumstances, all while Marinette gets to know this mysterious Beast that frightens everyone else. I appreciate that while there's some light inspiration from Beauty and the Beast, it's very much its own plotline, and that "inspiration" is more along the lines of references than anything else. It's nice to see a new sort of fairy tale, and while I don't think the story will surprise a lot of people, it's executed very well and I think it deserves more attention.
Who is an underrated writer who deserves more attention?
Hmmm... I think I'll shine a spotlight on @echo-has-queries, or on AO3, Echo_elates. They've only written an handful of fics, but I've loved them, and they don't get nearly enough attention relative to how good they are. Seriously, the Lovecraftian sort of horror of Through Yellow Eyes is great to read, and I adored getting Kagami's perspective as she got to know robot!Adrien and dealt with getting back into contact with her ex, Marinette, in Each Hum And Click. The prose in both fics is really good, and it's a shame that neither fic has broken the 50 kudos barrier yet.
I'd love for that to change, so go check out Echo's fics!

#i like to headcanon that for years after dbk’s imprisonment#red son didn’t do anything but work on his engineering skills#or just wallowed within his home#pif didnt give a rats butt about what he was doing because she was already miserable dealing with other people#so red son didnt go out much to socialise or learn from the world#meaning there was a lot of things he didnt know about life and himself until after his father was freed#red son has never had any experiece with having feelings#romantic or platonic or anything. he only recognises familial love thats pretty much it#not because he doesnt feel them (duh) but because hes had no one to feel that way about#so becoming friends with goldendragon was pretty hard for him. but he still pulled through#but recognising his feelings for mk being more than that? that was the hardest yet (for everybody)#of course mei figured it out first. and eventually mk did too. but even red son had no clue until they both had to intervene#so red son realising he is no longer as straight as he once thought because of mk is a very real possibility LMAO#lmk#lego monkie kid#lmk fanart#mk lmk#lmk qi xiaotian#qi xiaotian#lmk red son#lmk spicynoodles#spicynoodleshipping#monkie kid spicynoodles

Tanya the Evil always gives me Emotions when I try to read it, which does make it harder to get thru each book despite how much I love it, but I think I've made a Mistake by trying to read it while listening to Sabaton's "The War to End All Wars" album.
Y'all, I hit the song Versailles while reading Tanya's internal monologue about the cost of war while she was in the mop up of Operation Lock Pick. Y'ALL, when I say I had Too Many Emotions to continue reading, especially while on an airplane surrounded by strangers, I mean I had SO MANY EMOTIONS.
#there's always so much going on in the Tanya books#like I'll literally laugh out loud at something and then three pages later i'm having FEELINGS and need to put the book down to process#like.. objectively Tanya's protagonist halo letting her trigger coincidence after coincidence which makes the Commonwealth foam at the mouth#hunting for the mole/traitor that doesn't exist#and then you'll just get straight up gut punched with the most straightforward “hi yes war is hell and glorifying it is terrible” shit ever#combined with musings about a soldier's duty and the tightrope of survival as a soldier with limited options#and then the gut punch random reminders that Tanya is a super decorated war veteran with a Reputation and she's tiny! she's a child!#and after a point most everyone starts ignoring that outwardly she's a CHILD!#no one knows she's a transmigrator! no one knows she has an entire other life in her head!#they're just running with war genius child mage! she enlisted herself at NINE YEARS OLD! THIS WAS ALLOWED!#She saw her first action at like TEN!#(objectively she IS actively a bit of a war genius tho u know?)#(like she brushes it off as remembering essentially the history of war in our world but y'all..)#(y'all she's pulling memories of war tactics and maneuvers from her mind WITHOUT ABILITY TO REFERENCE ANYTHING)#(she's starting with what little she's being given as orders and what little she knows about the state of the war and the area terrain--#--and repeatedly putting these clues together into the Correct Answer to the point where she startles several superior officers)#(like yes she's not coming up with any of this on her own but she's remembering things she learned about and adding--#--the dimension of magecraft and repeatedly producing the same plan as her superiors without nearly as much current info)#(the amount of memory she needs to have for all those tactics/maneuvers/etc is incredible and shouldn't be discounted)#.... i had Feelings Again whoops#look she's not innocent or kind or good or even a RELIABLE NARRATOR but i love her so much

just realised i have a habit of headcanoning characters leaving the wizarding world and magic behind them...
mary macdonald, lydia pettigrew, draco malfoy, remus lupin, andromeda tonks, etc.
#why is that a pattern of mine?? its a strange pattern to have but i have no clue why the idea is just so appealing#mary macdonald leaving due to the war and not wanting to be involved she fully leaves magic behind until she has dean thomas#so she comes back for his benefit only to take him to get school supplies and the train and make sure he's not too overwhelmed with magic#lydia pettigrew getting pregnant during her time at hogwarts and dropping out since she wasn't having a good time anyway#she misses having a muggle life and although not fully leaving the wizarding world and coming back for peters sake but again not that much#draco malfoy leaving after the war is over and his family is ruined. he leaves everything behind and starts going to uni#only remaining in contact with his mother from the wizarding world. (ive got a whole thing about this by the way.#i dont like draco but i like gay ppl and redemption arcs so gave him t (he's gay with his uni flatmate not harry if thats what you thought#remus lupin briefly leaving after halloween 81. he sorta just stops going to the wizarding world or using magic and doesn't even realise#andromedas is also briefly just after getting disowned. starting her new life with ted both of them living in the muggle world#but she is still in contact with sirius and just doesn't feel safe going to places in the wizarding world at first#but after a while she regains confidence to do and starts rejoining that world (while still primarily living in the muggle world)#marauders era#marauders#harry potter#wizarding world

The Tiktokers Are Saying That Romeo And Cinderella Is About Grooming
#HELLO???? NO IT FUCKING ISN'T??????? don't f w me when it comes to romeo and cinderella i'm literally named after that shit#inb4 i also know more abt grooming than the average tiktoker bc i was Literally In The Situation They Say Happened In The Song#ie. groomed by an older teenager when i was 13-14#the entire claim is based around a. the romeo and juliet metaphor and a random ass claim about romeo's age (he doesn't have one but is.#based on context clues. two years older than her tops). and even if it was true r&j still wouldn't be abt grooming bc that would require it#writer to view the relationship as such. which shakespeare obv didn't. + it's not literally about r&j it's abt a teen girl comparing her#relationship to famous love stories and the pop cultural perception of them. b. the bit abt her parents not liking her 'romeo' when like#there are half a million reasons someone's parents could disapprove of their relationship that don't involve an age gap. also the parents#are shown to be v overbearing throughout the song so like . if anyone is mistreating her it's them. c. any of the various childlike#references. she's a teenager reaching for the adult world while still experiencing childlike naivete. this is to emphasize that. it doesn't#mean that she's secretly younger or anything. d. the school uniform line. she means that she's willing to run away at a moment's notice#without looking back home to go get her real clothes so that her parents could have the chance to stop her. it's a statement of devotion an#there's nothing to imply that romeo isn't also dressed in a school uniform. e. the you'll hate me line. a major part of the song is her#internal conflict of having to choose between her parents and romeo. her concern isn't based on the idea that if she does something wrong#romeo will hate her it's based on the fear that her indecision will hurt romeo's feelings. which is seen again in me and juliet. the#official sequel song. which is about how after they run away together she becomes overwhelmed by her internal conflict bc it didn't just go#away after she made her choice and she still loves her parents enough to question it. and finally f. the wolf line. which is about her#indecision. it's about her indecision. if romeo doesn't whisk her away quickly enough while she's leaning in that direction she feels she'l#have more time to doubt herself and it'll eat her up inside. it's a common metaphor babes and it's LITERALLY WHAT THE SEQUEL SONG IS ABOUT#romeo.txt

this quote being undeniably alicesque ... !
#𝐢. footnotes & meta . ﹙ now that 𝘪𝘴 a mystery .#i feel my heart going out 100 times a day!#i genuinely have no clue HOW to word a meta on this but im trying to#put together a little web weave to help explain it – because the#driving force for alice is a love for people very dearly#i talked to rhys about this but it's interesting to see like#she puts even bella in danger for the sake of edward in new moon#it's like love makes her impulsive and intensely devoted#and a little selfish! but only selfish in that the person (the people) she loves#is in part herself... saving edward is selfish because in what world would#she be without her brother?#and that goes to everyone she cares about (there is a secret#hierarchy for her but she does NOT outwardly play favorites.)#((jas is her favorite. this is known.))#anyway ... she falls in love often and hard - and i suppose often is#relative... but she does!!

I had a funny silly thing to say about something I found in past Discord conversations about some stuff I've been doing here but nah fuck that
Guess which FNaF author has apparently been tormenting me with frustrating plots, a love for wasted screen time and a lack of details needed to tell the fucking story, since Felix the Shark.
#in the discord i have devolved into just screaming the author's name#like I'm begging her to see what she's done but also using it with enough sarcasm to sink a ship lmao#this ONE author is driving me insane how is she getting these past editors???#they all feel like rough drafts at BEST#which they might be!!#god i read warrior cats and it didn't annoy me as much as this...#obsessed with tubes of doom and scared of giving any sort of clues for literally anything#and there's no way she's not minted.#what average person refers to a queen anne mansion as fucking FIXER UPPER#that could be afforded on this one guy solo making robotic vacuums that are expensive to make in every way possible???#bro... he even ran away from his grief by travelling the world like no he did not you plum#couldn't afford to set up a washing machine or to fix the roof or to buy a tiger plush.#where did he fucking go? a foreign food section of the local tesco???#escaped his grief in a postcard shop???#ah yes the local chinese takeaway. i have experienced the joys of all of China!!!#like come on dipshit you're a PROFESSIONAL in a PUBLISHED BOOK#that's got an 'about' section talking about how good of a writer you are!!!#WHERE DID HE GO ANDREA????#COME ON ANDREA WHERE DID HE FUCKING GO WITH NO MONEY ANDREA???#WHERE'D HE GO FOR YEARS ANDREA???#HOW'D HE AFFORD HIS RENTED PLACE WITH FUCK ALL ANDREA???#DID HE SELL THE WAREHOUSE OF DOOM ANDREA???#DID HE JUST SHOW UP AND CLAIM IT AS HIS ANDREA????#ANDREEEAAAAAAAAA GET OUTTA THE TUBES AND ANSWER MEEEEEEEEEE#bskdndk as you can see I'm perfectly sane about published fiction reading like a pitch summary.#the fucking tubes man...#andrea please... your characters are already suffering so much...#please have mercy... you even sent the rollercoaster to the tubes...#you don't have to do this andrea... there's a better way...#the tubes don't have to be real... it's okay...

i hate bad and abusive parents so much. they're the reason my best friend has so much trauma and so many mental health issues. and then to kick her out? and then to somewhat reconcile like nothing happened? it's just so awful to see my best friend struggle mentally and barely (and not even tbh) make rent and Knowing that her parents won't be any help at all. like if she has to move back with her mom it's going to be okay for a while and then her mom will start drinking again and all hell with break loose. and her dad is either incredibly oblivious or just chooses to pretend like nothing is wrong while he plays house with his new family. when my best friend lived with me for 9 months after she got kicked out, even my stepdad daydreamed about going to meet her dad so he could yell at him for not taking care of his daughter. anyways now she's trying drugs with her equally unwell partner and they're not being safe and her eating disorder is getting worse. so her other best friend and i are meeting up to figure out what to do.
#and now my deal is ghosting me while i'm showing warning signs of a panic attack#i'm not going to have one but jfc i hope he texts back#i've been her friend since 8th grade and even when we drift we're the closest the other's got#other than her partner but they're a bit unstable and kind of leading her into the drug world somewhat#idk that's not to say i don't party but i try to do it in a safe way#we've talked about this and she agrees to plan ahead and not just say yea to everything and and everyone#it's just everyone around me falls into drugs or suicide attempts or both and it just feels never ending#a close friend opened up last night about her suicide attempt like ~2 years ago#and it's the same pattern. awful mental health and then heavy drug use#two of my close friends have done heroin. one got addicted#the other was on it while she was with me and i didn't even notice#it's just everywhere and everyone and there's no getting away from it#and i can handle myself but i can't control my best friend#and while she's not the only chronically and deeply depressed friend i've got#she's the one i ultimately feel complete responsibility for#and inhave no fucking clue what i'm doing#AAAAAAAAAAAA#i'm fine i just needed to vent#mine#tw drugs#tw eating disorder#tw abuse

Funniest thing in the world about the movie Fight Club, to me:
People stick so hard to the first rule of Fight Club (being, of course, "don't talk about Fight Club") that the first time I saw it, I genuinely had no fucking clue what it was going to be about. Every time I'd ever heard it brought up in conversation with friends, someone in the room would inevitably say, "no! Don't talk about Fight Club!", everyone would laugh, and then they would actually change the subject. I never heard anyone talk about the actual plot of the movie. I didn't even know there was a book for years.
All I knew was that there was a secret club, presumably where people would fight. When my wife picked it for a movie night early in our relationship, I asked her why there was a bar of soap on the DVD cover and she was like, "oh my god. You really have no idea what you're getting into. This is going to be great."
And it was, friends. It was fun to experience the plot twist with absolutely no prior spoilers. To this day, I, too, do not discuss the plot of Fight Club with people who haven't seen it (unless they're directly asking for content warnings/genuinely aren't enjoying the bit).
There's no point to this post. I don't have any particularly profound Fight Club analysis. I just think it's really funny how committed to the bit people are.
