The Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal was built only for 5 years and was once the largest church in North America, until New York’s Saint Patrick’s Cathedral was built. James O’Donnell, an Irish-American from New York City, designed the church; he converted to Catholicism shortly before his death and was buried in the crypt of his church.
