I may finally finish this series, I've got such an urge. If I can't find the original plan for the last episodes though, I might have to do a rewatch and mix it up. I always felt so bad for leaving it open like that (damn life getting in the way) so hopefully we can finally give Magnus a send off!

Season 5 - Magnus (entry for @skambigbang 2019​)

Magnus Fossbakken is entering his final year of school and everything seems to be cracking, including himself. When the family have to come home early from their holiday because his Mum has another manic episode, Magnus starts a journey to rock bottom. He’s scared, numb, frustrated and he has no idea how to handle it. When poor decisions make things go from bad to worse, Magnus has to learn how to get back up again and talk to the people who care for him.

My fanfiction baby has finally come to life! I’ve been working on the ideas for this for so long when this year’s big bang came along, I knew I had to finally write Magnus his season. You’ll notice little callbacks to previous seasons and maybe an easter egg or too. It’s a personal season, dealing with family, mental health issues like depression and the symptoms to actually look out for in friends and family. I hope you enjoy reading this series as much as I have writing it.

She’s halfway to drunk, her lips barely leaving the flared spout to speak. Vilde feels like they’re in high school again. hello! i’m sorry if this isn’t like the old usual, but i haven’t written a single thing in what feels like forever :( hopefully it’ll all come back to me!! so sorry in advance if the quality isn’t the greatest!!

ONSDAG 6:15

Vilde hadn’t slept all night. Strangely, she didn’t even feel tired; she had this urgency to make things better. She had no clue how.  But she just had such a hunger for living her truth. After Eskild’s speech, she wanted to shout to the whole world. Well, she liked the thought of doing that. In reality, every time she imagined doing that, her stomach turned and made such strange noises she’d never heard before. 

Vilde had planned all night that she will go to Noora’s room in the morning and talk to her. But now, it all seemed... extreme. All sorts of anxious thoughts filled her head like “there’s no point”, “she won’t care” and “it’s way too early in the morning, you burden.” The worst was that she was way too embarrassed about yesterday night... She didn’t even want to show her face to Noora after how she saw her... A sobbing mess - probably with snot running down from her nose...

She spends a few moments collecting herself. That means, lying in bed, breathing deeply and trying to kick every ounce of anxiety out of her head. Of course, that seemed impossible, but somehow she manages to sit up and think “I need to do this.” She suddenly feels so restless and undefeated. A sense of confidence fills her chest, but left as soon as she stands on her feet. The creaking of the floor is just too much. The possibility of being caught made her palm sweat and heartbeat quicken. Her head turns to a battlefield of anxious thoughts versus logic. “So what if you get caught?” one argues. “I’ll look like an idiot,” one quickly answers. It was exhausting; just to get to the door. By the time Vilde is to grab Noora’s room’s doorknob, she’s on the verge of tears. Frustrated and sad. 

“Maybe knock,” she thinks. So she does, hesitantly. And within seconds, Noora opens the door, dishevelled but smiling. 

“Hi,” Noora greets Vilde into her room and gently closes the door behind her.

Vilde’s standing awkwardly in front of Noora for what seems like forever, until Noora speaks again. “Do you want to sit down?”

“I just... wanted to talk,” Vilde manages to stutter out. Every little thing suddenly goes to her head; watch how you stand, watch how you speak, how you look... Everything seems to take twice if not thrice as much energy for her as before. And even holding a regular conversation is sometimes draining for Vilde. So imagine this...

Noora sits on her bed but it takes Vilde a few moments to follow. Even if people can’t see her thoughts and how long and consuming those little battles feel to her, she still gets embarrassed. Certain moments feel longer to her than to others, for certain; even if she only hesitated a few seconds, she feels Noora must’ve noticed. Even when she didn’t.

They sit, shoulder to shoulder. Vilde finally sinks into reality, she feels grounded. She can feel Noora’s soft covers and the room’s comforting smell... She remembers all the memories from within that space. She relaxes. 

“I don’t know if it’s right for me to say, Vilde, but I figured.” Vilde quickly picks her head up to focus on Noora. For the first time in a long time, Vilde sees Noora struggling; even if it’s just for the right kind of words to use in her sentence. It’s a sort of hesitancy that Vilde hasn’t really seen in Noora before. Definitely not in her speech, anyway. She always chose the right words without doubting  herself. This is new, Vilde thinks. 

“You figured...?” Vilde asks, prompting Noora to go on. Vilde, herself, isn’t sure whether that was Noora’s full sentence, or if she drifted off before finishing. A pang of slight guilt fills her chest... This is exactly the sort of uncomfortable talk she didn’t want to have... She didn’t want her friends to feel uneasy and having to change whole speech patterns to make her feel alright. She doesn’t want people tiptoeing around her. 

“I noticed the way you look at her. And me.” 

Oh. Vilde finally feels everything as it hits her. Maybe she has been a bit more visibly jealous over time... Vilde’s cheeks feel like burning up. She’s sure it’s the colour of Noora’s favourite lipstick by the time she speaks again. 

“I always wanted to tell you that you don’t need to worry, but I was conflicted, too... I mean you had Magnus, and I thought, maybe it’s just friendship jealousy, maybe rivalry, I don’t know. Let’s be honest, you were never really fond of me from day one,” Noora awkwardly adjusts her hair and scratches her arm. She doesn’t look Vilde in the eye.

“Noora...” Vilde suddenly has a million things running through her mind, wanting to say to Noora, but it’s impossible to grasp a single thing at a time. “I never wanted you to feel that,” she says in the quietest voice. “You know I love you.”

“Of course I do, Vilde,” Noora smiles, chuckling. “I just felt it. I felt... you. But I didn’t fully understand why, until, I guess, last night.” 

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner,” Vilde says.

 Noora grabs her hand. “This shouldn’t be about you apologising. It should be about us apologising, that you felt we wouldn’t accept you...” For a moment, Vilde thinks Noora might shed a tear or two.

 Vilde jumps to defend her friends, “It wasn’t about you guys. I just... didn’t think anyone would be fine with it. I guess because I’m still struggling with it.”

 Noora nods understandingly. It’s all very sincere and intimate. “But I’m sure all the drunk things we called mistakes didn’t help... did they?” 

Vilde suddenly feels a tightening in her chest. A feeling of happiness, a feeling that someone understands, someone that she never thought would... All she can do is nod, smiling in the faintest way. 

ONSDAG 12:45

Vilde’s school day has been better than in a long time. Her and Noora discussed everything on their way to school together, and she hasn’t felt this close to her in forever. She couldn’t wipe the smile off her face. She needed someone like Noora right now. Someone with plans. She appreciated Chris but they had a different relationship; Chris was her rock. Someone that let her get it all out without bombarding her with advice and solutions. Noora gave her those but of course, without the bombarding part.

 “So how are we feeling?” Noora asks, while reapplying her lipstick. 

Vilde and Noora were standing in the almost empty corridor, about to raid the biology classroom for Sana, during their lunch break. 

 Vilde fiddles with her bag for a bit. “I mean, I just wish she wouldn’t be a weirdo and hang in a classroom during break. We could’ve caught her in the toilet or something... What if there’s other people?” 

 Noora laughs. “You’re making it sound like we’re gonna kidnap Sana or something. If there’s others, we’ll keep quiet. I mean it’s not like you have to but I understand. We can do it another time—” Before she can finish, Vilde storms into the biology room. It’s just Isak and Sana, with their laptops, instantly disrupted by Vilde’s noise. She exhales, feeling both reassured by Isak’s presence, yet frightened because of her friend. 

“Um, hi?” Sana laughs. “Grand entrance, what are you doing?” 

 Vilde sits opposite Sana, but before she does so, Noora whispers something about Isak. She almost wants to laugh, as if Noora thinks Vilde would be bothered by Isak hearing her come out. Plus, he was one of the first to know. If he’s there, Vilde just feels even better doing it. It’s almost like the stars all aligned for her today. She hadn’t felt like that in a long time. So she takes a deep breath and looks at Sana, who’s looking around sheepishly. 

“What’s going on?”

“Sana, I need to tell you something,” Vilde starts. She starts feeling really weird, like maybe she’s making it too big of a deal. She doesn’t want to feel like those movie versions of coming out. She just wants it as real and small as possible. 

 Vilde catches Isak’s eyes and it’s almost as if they have a moment of telepathy. Should I leave? Vilde slightly shakes her head at him, no, please stay. 

 Isak hesitates, but speaks. “Evolution?” 

 Sana gets more confused by the second. She shakes her head, eyebrows furrowed, and looks around once more. “Okay... what is going on?”

“Sana, I’m gay.” 

 Everything goes silent for a while. Vilde’s almost deafened by the ringing in the empty classroom. Then, as if her heartbeat slows down again bit by bit, the muffled sound of students outside swallows them all up. 

“Well?” Noora asks quietly. 

 Sana looks between Vilde, then Noora. “Wait. Are you two a thing? Is that what this is?”

“No!” Vilde and Noora exclaim together, looking at each other, then breaking out in laughter. “No, Sana.”

“Is that what the whole Magnus thing was about?” Sana suddenly clicks. 

“Yeah,” Vilde clutches her hands together. “Please don’t tell anyone. Chris knows, and Noora. And I mean, Isak, too, but no one else.”

“I’m honoured, knowing I’m the first of few,” Sana smiles. Vilde’s heart feels all warm and nice. She never thought it’d feel like this. “Thanks for telling me, Vilde.”

“High five!” Isak raises his palm at Vilde, who slaps her own into it, laughing. “So, you have two gay buddies now,” he turns to Sana. 

“So,” Sana looks at Vilde, like she’s in deep in thoughts, “Eva’s the only one that you haven’t told yet?”

 Fuck.
