Thoughts on TTRPGs? D&D and/or others?

I think they're really really cool in concept, and I've played a couple one shots and a short campaign, but I struggle with the live roleplay and getting into character.

I can roleplay over text just fine since I don't need to come up with a voice and I can take my time crafting messages before sending them.

At the same time though, I've been wondering about ttrpgs other than dnd built for more open ended story telling rather than dungeon crawling. Sometimes I come up with ideas for stories that I want to tell but I can't come up with every character, so a bit of collaborative story telling sounds very intriguing but I have yet to find a system for it that I'd like.
