You know how I complain about the lack of emotional resolution in The Final Problem? It's not an issue exclusive to that episode.
In The Great Game, there is an explosion at 221B, when John enters the room expecting to see a hurt or injured Sherlock, but instead, we see Mycroft and Sherlock talk about a case.
Why is this interesting? We know Mycroft went straight there after he heard about the explosion, most likely for reasons other than the case like, idk, to check if his brother is still alive? We are not shown that. If Mycroft showed any concern towards him, it is entirely off screen.
We are shown Mycroft watch Sherlock get tortured and speak to him in bad Serbian (why was the Serbian so bad? Was it supposed to be bad?), mirror the actions of his torturers and refer to his torture as a "holiday."
What are we not shown? Mycroft helping him out of the chains. Arranging for him to get his wounds mended. Any possible show of concern. See a pattern?
The Great Game was mostly from John's pov, so it makes sense there. John wasn't there. Here you have no excuse, as season 3 is mostly Sherlock's pov.
So why did they not show us that? They were afraid of consequences. It's the same reason the Lazarus explanation felt like a retcon and a cop-out to people.
I saw a hypothesis that just as Option 1 was Anderson's fantasy and Option 2 was the fangirl fantasy, Lazarus is Sherlock's fantasy.
In this version, he had the events perfectly in control, Mycroft didn't cause him to get screwed over and it was all intentional and they worked together, John, Mrs H and Lestrade were not in any real danger, Sherlock didn't get as emotional on the roof and didn't cry etc. etc. etc.
You see if Mycroft was to blame for the fall, if he was what truly led to Sherlock's downfall and it wasn't all premeditated, you would have to address that.
Sherlock would be angry with him. He would resent him for something he actually did as opposed to a vague reason we were never given or explained.
You wanted to play with emotional stakes, but you didn't want any relationships to actually evolve.
That's why John's beating of Sherlock is not addressed in The Final Problem even when it would be relevant.
That's why Molly is shown back in 221B at the end when the last time we saw her, Eurus put her friendship with Sherlock in serious jeopardy if not outright kill it.
That's why they wrote Rosie into the show and then did next to nothing with her.
That's why 221B explodes and then is rebuilt in a quick montage at the end of the episode.
That's why Eurus is put back into the very same prison she had no issue mindfucking everyone in and escaping from.
That's why we don't see Sherlock reacting to Mycroft being freed or have them discuss events of Sherrinford.
Because they wanted to put these characters through hell, but not actually have anything change.

Truly, the women of the Sherlock Holmes canon and the surrounding media are beautiful and excellent and messy and awful and human, human, human... and the fandom does not deserve them.

After finishing Doctor Who during Moffat's run, I think I see a pattern here for most (but not all) of his female characters choices in Doctor Who & Sherlock. I know people have already analyzed this before, but I want to do it myself so here we go.
There are primary three categories:
1. The first is the generic and the normal ones, according to him. Characters like Amy, Donna (silence in the library episode) from Doctor Who, Mary from Sherlock. These are the characters that will always stand with the good people, never straying, and whose life long dream is to settle down and have children. Mary of course is an outlier, because she had shot Sherlock and broke John's trust. But in the final season, it turned out that her hands had been forced, and she had been good all along.
For me, I think wanting to settle down to have a family of course is not necessarily a bad thing. I can't say for Mary and Amy because I couldn't relate to them personally, however, Donna's storyline in the Silence in the Library didn't sit well with me. When she was saved by the Computer, it sort of simulated a life that it thought she wanted. One where she had two beautiful children and a dotting husband. The problem here lies in the fact that she had been ridiculed and thought to be loud and brash and stupid all her life, and had been a temp for a long time. She literally ran to the TARDIS the second time she met the Doctor because she didn't like the life she had had, or the life her mom has been pressuring her to have. Can you see how reluctant she has been to pursue anything really? Do you really think her life-long dream, her secret desire is still to settle down and become a wife to someone? Maybe, but not before taking the chance to see the Universe with the Doctor. I actually have a feeling that finding a husband might have been on her list, but she could be doing that more out of obligation and societal expectations. Again, it's not a bad thing to want a family, but there's a recurring theme for his character choices that I can't help notice.
2. Second are the women who are smart and resourceful. These are the characters that are most of the time portrayed as sexy and intelligent, and most of all above all the others. Characters like Irene Adler and Mary (a little bit) in Sherlock, River and Clara in Doctor Who. I think there are many discussions we can have about the definition of strong, female, characters. However, I agree with many others that these women's lives all revolve around one man. And even if they are smart enough, we have to remember there will be one guy who can still tell them otherwise: which are Sherlock and the Doctor respectively.
3. The third type of women in Steven Moffat's writings are those who are too intelligent they become unpredictable and sometimes downright inhuman. Characters like Eurus in Sherlock, Missy in Doctor Who are in this category. They are extremely smart and morally questionable characters, and certainly, they have a lot of potential to explore. However, they are almost too smart that it becomes harder to relate to them. And since I don't think Moffat really knows how to deal with them, they are either put in a cage when they are being "naughty", or out of the cage at their male counterpart's side when they finally decide to stand with them, to be "good".
By the way, there is one addition that I think is relevant. It is fucking funny that with the way he wrote these women, they are most of the time too put together to really have any story to tell. From first glance, you wouldn't be able to really see what their backgrounds were like and what's on their minds, and as the story progressed nothing really developed. Since this is not good for story telling, he would give you some (in my opinion) unnecessary stories to compensate the lack of substances, such as family drama TM (the whole John and Mary arguments), or the boyfriend drama TM (why didn't you approve my choice of a boyfriend, Doctor? & OMG my boyfriend just been run over by cars because I said "I love you" to him). Those back and forth we didn't really see coming to distract us from the facts. However, this makes a lot of the stories feel disjointed and the time jump between episodes sometimes doesn't make sense. Also when the dramas are added, some audience (normally cis straight guys) can be like look, the main guys don't really care to deal with them and in comparison are way cooler, these girls just needed to be put in their places.
In conclusion, most of the women written by him are either categorized as:
(1) normal girls will -> get pregnant
(2) Smart & sexy powerful women will -> get beaten by the main character (who are always white, more superior and smarter)
(3) Unpredictable brainiacs (who deserve better) will-> get put into dungeons and cages 'cause they are crazy and "bad" (as in their beliefs are not aligned with the hero's). Oh and sometimes they can be sexy, too

The other day a friend of mine (if you're wondering: yes, it's the same friend who said that about the morgue scene and the same one who thought of drawing the Sherlock characters as rats) asked me what animals the Sherlock characters would be, but not in the sense of "ohh, John is cute and small, obviously he would be a hedgehog", no. We based on their personality, attitude and environment to choose an animal with those same characteristics.
We talked for almost 2 hours about it and I even revealed myself, but I think it was worth it. She said she was going to draw them in their animal form, so i'll maybe update this post (or invite her to upload them to her blog)
In any case, we reach the following conclusions:
Sherlock – Snow Leopard: Cunning, intelligent, lonely. We also thought of animals like orangutan or crow but crows get along well with other crows and my friend didn't want to draw an orangutan.
John – Dog (small breed): It was difficult for us to choose an animal for John because we couldn't capture all his facets. We thought about capybaras and penguins, but we were missing that "aggressive" side. We even thought of a honey badger but damn, John isn't that bad. A dog seemed like a very simple option but then we realized that dogs are sociable, can be aggressive in particular situations and are very loyal. We chosed a small breed (sized, because of John's height), but that if you bother it too much it can, you know, gouge your eye out or something like that.
Lestrade – Koala: To be honest we didn't think much about this one. We had thought about a koala for John but we realized that koalas had a very boring life for John and were mostly quite lazy. When it was Lestrade's turn, we said "yes, Lestrade is a koala" and we didn't delve much deeper into it. XD
Mrs Hudson – Siamese cat: For Hudders we wanted an animal that was cute, but in a look-at-me-don't-touch-me kind of way. A cat was what I thought of since they tend to be surly and my friend suggested a Siamese, since they are "good and refined but naughty", according to her. We chose it because Hudders seems like an adorable and naïve lady until you discover that she is the widow of a drug dealer and in her house she has "herbs for hip pain". ;)
Mary – Fox: We initially thought of a fox for Sherlock, but then my friend said that foxes are fearful, and it didn't really fit him. When it was Mary's turn, I thought that Mary was cunning and really intelligent, but the fear of her past coming to light worked against her.
Moriarty – Hyena: Moriarty was the easiest of all (yes, even easier than Lestrade). We weren't sure, so I started naming all his characteristics, "manipulative, doesn't care what happens to people or even himself, would do anything to get what he wants and in general a damn psycho" and my friend immediately said "hyena" (I knew more about the characters, she knew more about animals). Just thinking about how truly machiavellian they can be, I had no doubt.
Molly - Sparrow: "Molly must be a shy, kind animal, someone who is there but you don't really notice," I said, or something like that. And my friend immediately thought of a sparrow.
Mycroft - Panther: I'm not really sure why my friend chose a panther, but some of her justifications were: "I would like a crow, because Mycroft has connections (like crows), but it would be strange if Sherlock was a leopard and Mycroft was a crow. I should choose another feline" "like a panther?" i said (i love panthers) "Yes!", said she, "Elegant, reserved, and intelligent."
Eurus - Wolf: Honestly, i don't know exactly why we chosed a wolf. It was my friend's idea but a wolf is definetly not a feline, so it really doesn't make sense. Anyway, because Eurus is also manipulative, but cares about Sherlock and is a bit more human than Moriarty, my friend chose wolf. I'm not sure what wolves are like exactly (as I said, my friend knows the most about animals), but I trust her judgment.
That was all. This wasn't meant to be something very deep, but to have fun for a while. :D

Sherlocktober day 13: AU
The au I chose was Danganronpa
WAIT I ACTUALLY LIKE THIS ONE. I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO WHEN I SAW THIS ON THE PROMPT LIST.
I WAS PLANNING MORE BUT ITS FINE ILL EXPLAIN IT IN WORDS
I can imagine Chapter 6 to just be. So insane because of Richard Brook (moriarty's fake identity.)
Okay in terms of ultimates, this is what I had down:
Sherlock - Ultimate Consulting Detective
Moriarty - Ultimate Consulting Criminal Reserve Course or Ultimate Lucky Student? (This would be a big reveal I bet, like the Junko reveal)
John - Reserve Course (sorry buddy)
Mary - Ultimate Assassin (this is also a reveal)
Eurus - I dont know something to do with manipulation
Mycroft - Something to do with the government
Molly - I forgot her job specifically but I think she's a pathologist lets go with Ultimate Pathologist
Magnussen - He would have some kind of cover relating to owning the news, but actually have an ultimate like Ultimate Blackmailer or something
Mrs Hudson: Ultimate Hope OBVIOUSLY!!
Prompts for Sherlocktober by @ box.isnotconfused on tiktok and insta, @ BoxIs_Confused on Twitter

The writers really went 'john being invalided from war, losing sherlock and losing Mary were basically the same to him' with the way the episodes (asip, teh, tld) are structured and how they all mirror each other, except we get to see the very intense fall out of him being invalided and losing Mary and how that affects him, but we don't see the immediate fall out of John coping with Sherlock's death, presumably because it would put the loss of Sherlock on the level of (essentially) losing your life and losing your lover

Martin Luther had his 95 Theses/Grievances against the Roman Catholic Church, but today I come to you with my Top 3 Grievances against Sherlock bbc.
1. what the hell is this time line? i’m not even sure then is any canon time line for the entire series, let alone each episode. the only exact time we are given is of Sherlock’s “death” being two years long. and some people will say that the measurement of time doesn’t *really* matter, soooo who cares! I DO!!!! it matters so much, i can’t even iterate my reasonings except scream in a bucket. there’s so many concepts including Mary life before and after John, just Johns entire life before meeting Sherlock (by basic calculations he should be sooooo gosh damn old to work as a doctor as he does), Moriarty and everything he does outside of and pertaining to Sherlock, Eurus (her crimes, her time in Sherrinford, her time with Moriarty), just—- so many plots and aspects of this show make little to no logical sense because of how off and awkward the series chronically works, or doesn’t work.
2. John. his life. and by life i mean love life. i will admit i’ve never understood the concept of just meeting someone and suddenly dating them, maybe it’s the greyromantic thing, but hey…. this isn’t about me. but what the fuck? when does this guy have the time? he basically had three jobs: mystery man, doctor man, and sherlock babysitter man. when is this guy going out and meeting these girls? and why is he doing this? he knows he’s in no place to be #dating anyone, mentally or physically. the only person he hangs out with is the *cough* love of his life *cough* i mean unsocial flatmate, whom i heavily doubt would allow his John to get taken with anyone else. but overall, in the entirety of this show, John and dating don’t have a purpose except to show that John cares about Sherlock more than anyone he claims to care about more. to show his true hufflepuff— wrong fandom —his true loyalty and undying yearning to follow Sherlock into the deepest darks. except Mary, that has a plot, a good one? ehhhhhhhhhh but there’s q reason for the relationship, not just “here we go, another reason Johns not a H O M O S E X U A L
3. the ‘end’ of the season. personally i liked that episode. is it really weird and create a few plot problems and unrealistic scenarios based on what we know of our characters? yes, yes it does. but at the same time i don’t care and the only thing i truly hate is how annoying the Moriarty recordings were. they broke my ears. but this being the end of a series that i love so much and truly cherish, just breaks my heart because it’s so SHITTY! not a shitty episode, but a shitty one to end a series on. but yeah sure, they say they’ll do another season…………. i can’t believe that. at all. so, until i open Netflix and see a new season of Sherlock there I will be calling “The Final Problem” the series finale of Sherlock.
even though it sucks as one.

“lost family becoming found family” 🥹
forget slow burn romance, give me slow burn found family. give me enemies to friends to siblings. tired, weary old mentors learning to live again for their plucky young apprentices. heroes sharing apartments after world saving adventures because they’re so used to living with each other. dramatic “oh shit” moments where one gets kidnapped and the other realizes “god, that’s my kid.” i want to sit and watch in agony for thirty chapters while two idiots slowly adopt each other, someone get on it

Having finished binging all of BBC’s Sherlock for the first time, I would like to express the following opinions:
The show is actually so good. It’s incredibly camp & very entertaining. I can’t believe I let tumblr make me think it was bad for so long
My favorite season is season 3 followed closely by season 4. Fave episode was the sign of three, I love how the cases interconnected and it was adorable how hard Sherlock tried for John’s wedding
Mary honestly might be my favorite character lol. I wish we got more content with her. I liked how they handled her death though, was very fun to see John & Sherlock spiral into a depression
Honestly I kinda just wish we got more content in general. The 3 episodes at 90 minutes format kept my attention the entire time, but I really wish the show had something closer to the 13 episodes of 45 minutes like a lot of other things had at the time. I would’ve loved more “filler” episodes where we got to step back from the overarching plot and just solve some random crimes
Also think that format would’ve benefitted the Moriarty seasons. Felt like we kinda speedran him as a villain and I would’ve loved for him to be an ominous presence through more cases
I can absolutely see how seasons 1-2 gaslit people into thinking johnlock was gonna be canon and that’s very unfortunate bc the far better interpretation (imo) is Sherlock is aroace af and he and John are in a QPR (neither are aware of this, but Mary knows).
People seem to hate the ending episode a lot but tbh I quite liked it. I like Eurus and Sherlock’s dynamic towards the end though I do wish they didn’t re-imprison her. Also Molly deserved one goddamn scene where Sherlock apologized to her

A Study of the Heart and Brain (Book 4) Epilogue
Father Figure! Sherlock Holmes x Teen! Reader
Epilogue: Brave Heart and Clever Brain
Summary: It's time for the rest of (Y/N)'s life to begin.
Mouse Note: And it's a wrap for A Study of the Heart and Brain. Wow. I can't believe so many years of this story have already gone by! Purple, Sherlock, and John have been so close to my heart for so long that it's sad to say goodbye, but I'm happy to say that they have happy lives in front of them. Thank you so much for all the support you've given to me over the years! I'll miss you all and hope to see you back for future projects! Thank you! This has been an amazing experience!
“John’s calling,” said (Y/N) as they put a new skull on the mantle of the rebuilt 221B. It had taken time and effort (and money they blackmailed Mycroft into getting), but the flat was back. Their home was back.
“I hate answering calls,” said Sherlock.
“I’m going to answer it,” said (Y/N). They pressed the accept button. “Hello, John.”
“Sherlock, (Y/N),” said John. “I think you better get round here.”
Sherlock and (Y/N) exchanged a look.
l
John held the disc that read “MISS YOU” on the top. Solemnly, he put it into the DVD player, and the TV turned on.
Mary’s face greeted them once more. She smiled. “P.S,” she said.
It was the next part of her original message. Sherlock, John, and (Y/N) leaned forward.
“I know you three,” said Mary. “And if I’m gone, I know what you could become. Because I know who you really are. A junkie who solves crimes to get high. The doctor who never came home from the war. And the teenager who is too smart for their own good. Will you listen to me? Who you really are, it doesn’t matter. It’s all about the legend, the stories, the adventures. There is a last refuge for the desperate, the unloved, the persecuted. There is a final court of appeal for everyone. When life gets too strange, too impossible, too frightening, there is always one last hope. When all else fails, there are three people sitting, arguing in a scruffy flat, like they’ve always been there and they always will. The best and wisest people I have ever known, my Baker Street family, Sherlock Holmes, (Y/N) Holmes, and Dr. Watson.”
            (Y/N) smiled.
l
“Congratulations!” cheered Lestrade, Mrs. Hudson, and John. Rosie babbled in John’s arms. Mycroft lifted his drink but didn’t cheer.
(Y/N) grinned and proudly held up the signed adoption papers. They had already been part of the Holmes family for years, but this just made it even more official.
“That’s my kid!” said Sherlock, smiling ear-to-ear.
He hugged (Y/N) tightly, and they hugged him back. Their home was whole once more. 221B was rebuilt. John was back. Even Eurus had started to smile when playing, and Mr. and Mrs. Holmes had gotten to hear her play with Sherlock and (Y/N).
They were going to be okay. They were okay. The Holmes family was together.
A knock at the door. (Y/N) turned to it.
“No one else was invited,” said John, frowning.
“I’ll send off the client,” huffed Mrs. Hudson.
“No, no, it’s a guest,” said Sherlock.
            “Who?” (Y/N) tilted their head.
“I invited them to dinner.” Sherlock smiled.
(Y/N)’s eyes widened, and they moved to the door in a moment.
“Who—” John watched (Y/N) throw the door open.
“Good evening, everyone.” Irene Adler smiled, dressed in purple dress and heels.
            “Irene,” said (Y/N), smiling.
            “Oh, god,” groaned Mycroft.
“You texted her back,” said John, grinning at Sherlock.
            “For (Y/N),” said Sherlock.
            John shook his head fondly.
“Thanks for coming,” said (Y/N) as they walked to the living room with Irene.
“Of course,” said Irene. She looked at them. “Are you doing alright? I heard about what happened. I thought the call was strange.”
Mycroft sighed, knowing one of his men had been compromised and told her everything, but (Y/N) was just happy.
            “I’m doing fine,” said (Y/N).
Irene patted their cheek. “Good.” She leaned in briefly. “And I meant every word.”
(Y/N) ducked their head. “I did, too.”
Irene smiled at them. “I’m glad.” She turned towards the table. “How is everyone feeling?” She looked at Mycroft and smirked. “I’ve heard your position as the ‘clever one’ of the family has been usurped.”
“It has not,” said Mycroft indignantly.
“I’m smarter than you,” said (Y/N), looking at him and smirking. “I’m the smartest Holmes.”
“I agree with them,” said Sherlock.
Mycroft rolled his eyes and looked at Irene. “You are quite daring to return here.”
“Am I?” remarked Irene innocently, sitting down.
(Y/N) watched their family begin to interact with one another and smiled. They looked at Sherlock. “You actually invited her.”
“Your whole family is here,” said Sherlock, smiling at them.
(Y/N) hugged him. “Thank you, Dad. Thank you so much. For finding me, for teaching me, for loving me.”
Sherlock hugged him back. “I’d do it a thousand times. I love you, (Y/N).”
“I love you, too, Dad,” said (Y/N). They had everything they needed. Love, family, a brave heart, and a clever brain. They had everything they ever wanted.
l
Years later…
“You be good for Mrs. Hudson, alright?” John looked at a now toddler Rosie with a smile.
            Rosie nodded. “Uh-huh.”
“And if Sherlock told you to see what would happen if you do…anything…don’t do it,” said John.
Rosie just smiled, and John groaned. Unfortunately, he couldn’t help looking at her fondly.
            “(Y/N), you ready?” said Sherlock.
An adult (Y/N) nodded as they entered the room. They pulled on a long purple coat. “Of course.” They smirked. “I’m always ready. After all…” They tossed Sherlock’s deerstalker to him. “The game is on.”

I'll never get over the fact John liked Eurus
Like John Watson is attracted to danger, even if unaware of it (case and point, Mary) so even if he didn't know it was Eurus, but some lady that giggled at him, he was attracted to the danger the person behind the mask was.
