It's kind of insane, isn't it? On the one hand, you have a film dealing with a dictatorial period in Brazil, caused by US involvement, which is what the US did throughout Latin America, by brazilians, director, producer, actors, all Brazilian, in Brazilian Portuguese. Authentically latino.
And on the other hand we have French and American citizens delivering the Mexican stereotype once again.
A colonizer still a colonizer, I guess...

I saw "I'm still here" and wow, it's one of the best movies I have ever seen!! And I need to talk about it, so please be prepared and stay with me
I already knew it would an amazing work not only because of the critics, but also because of all the team involved (all my favorite actors together was like a dream!!). But absolutely nothing prepared me to see the true love the production have put into the tiny details, them team and actors exemplified what respect is in it's purest form, they believe in their message and know how sacred it is
The silence throughout the two hours was inexplainable, every single person could see themselves on the screen. We didn't need multiple scenes about the couple falling for each other, or hundreds of descriptions about the kids personalities, only them together show us the love, showed us a reflection of our own families and culture, we connected to the characters with the first smile
It's a movie about Brazil, made by Brazilians, to Brazilians
As much as I love seeing this work having the deserved recognition, I don't care if we are not winning statues, "I'm still here" is a urgent wake up call and it must be listened no matter in which place of this globe
I have so much more to talk about this amazing film, but I think this post it's already a little too long lol I just want to say, go watch and I promise you will never regret it!! <3

Fernanda: Guys, no World Cup behavior!!
The FEDERAL GOVERNMENT: Someone asked for World Cup behavior??
Jokes aside, the government openly supporting a movie about the dictatorship a part of Brazil believe was “not all that bad” is something so relevant...

How a Family’s Life Is Upended in ‘I’m Still Here’ | Anatomy of a Scene
The New York Times
Feb 7, 2025 — A relaxing time at home turns menacing in this scene from the Brazilian drama “I’m Still Here.”
The sequence begins with Rubens Paiva (Selton Mello), a former congressman, playing a game with his wife, Eunice (Fernanda Torres). But they are interrupted by the military police, who have arrived to take Rubens in for what they say is a deposition, one from which Rubens won’t return.
What was lighthearted becomes dark, both emotionally and visually, as the police begin closing curtains in the house. The joy is drained from the room, and uncertainty and fear permeate the moment, all while the adults try to make it appear, for the couple’s children, that everything is normal.
The film, primarily set in Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s, is based on a 2015 memoir by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, the son of Rubens. Narrating this sequence, the director Walter Salles discussed switching the camera from a static position to hand-held at the moment the officers enter the scene. He said, “the camera relays the instability of the situation, pulsing with the characters.”
During the tense sequence, one of the couple’s daughters, Nalu (Barbara Luz), enters the house and goes upstairs to talk to her father as he is getting dressed to leave the home for what Nalu doesn’t know will be the last time. Salles called it “a vital scene,” and said that it was “staged as the real Nalu told me it happened.”
Toward the end of the sequence, we see Eunice in close-up as she stands in the doorway to see Rubens off. Salles said that it is “the first of the only two close-ups in the entire film. We saved it for the last glance between Rubens and Eunice.”
