ARMANI 23 Office Building in #Tehran, Iran by Alireza Sehdehzadeh & Partners @komeharmani. Read mor: Link in bio! Photography: M.H Ettefagh @mhettefagh, Alireza Sehdehzadeh A. Sehdehzadeh & Partners: Office building 23 is located in Shahriar street in north shiraz avenue. This 6 Story building has an individual office in each floor and there is a well coming lobby and 4 underground stories for parking. Being the only office building in the neighborhood surrounded by old residential blocks, in fact bring the main design ideas. Due to the municipality’s law, the building must have chamfer at each corner of south elevation, but during the design process designer takes advantage of these limitations and turns them into opportunities… #residential #архитектура www.amazingarchitecture.com ✔ A collection of the best contemporary architecture to inspire you. #design #architecture #amazingarchitecture #architect #arquitectura #luxury #realestate #life #cute #architettura #interiordesign #photooftheday #love #travel #construction #furniture #instagood #fashion #beautiful #archilovers #home #house ‎#amazing #picoftheday #architecturephotography ‎#معماری (at Tehran, Iran) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnNq6qisZYx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

11/18/2024•Mises Wire•Siamak Ettefagh
In the ever-evolving landscape of economic theory and policy, few concepts have been as influential and controversial as Joseph Schumpeter’s “creative destruction.” This powerful idea, which describes the process by which innovation continuously reshapes markets, challenges conventional wisdom about competition, monopolies, and the role of government intervention. As we grapple with the complexities of the digital age, the tension between creative destruction and regulatory frameworks, like antitrust laws and the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) has become increasingly apparent.
Creative destruction, as articulated by Schumpeter in his 1942 work “Capitalism, Socialism, and Democracy,” refers to the: “process of industrial mutation that incessantly revolutionizes the economic structure from within, incessantly destroying the old one, incessantly creating a new one.” This dynamic force drives economic progress by continually replacing outdated technologies, business models, and industries with more innovative and efficient ones. Unlike traditional economic models that emphasize static equilibrium and price competition, Schumpeter’s vision portrays capitalism as a system in perpetual flux, where the true engine of growth is not the optimization of existing structures but their wholesale transformation.
The implications of creative destruction for antitrust law are profound and potentially unsettling. Conventional antitrust theory—rooted in neoclassical economics—views market concentration and monopoly power as inherently harmful to consumer welfare. This perspective has led to a regulatory approach that seeks to maintain a “competitive” landscape by breaking up large firms and preventing mergers that could lead to market dominance. However, through the lens of creative destruction, this approach may be misguided and even counterproductive.
Schumpeter argued that temporary monopolies—far from being detrimental to innovation—could actually foster it. Large firms with significant market power, he contended, are often better-positioned to invest in long-term research and development, taking risks that smaller competitors cannot afford. The “monopoly” rents these firms enjoy provide both the incentive and the means to pursue groundbreaking innovations. By focusing solely on market concentration and short-term price effects, antitrust law may inadvertently stifle the very dynamism it allegedly seeks to promote.
Moreover, the Schumpeterian view suggests that market dominance is often transient, constantly threatened by the next wave of disruptive innovation. Today’s “monopolist” may be tomorrow’s obsolete relic, rendered irrelevant by a nimble startup with a revolutionary idea. Antitrust interventions, in this light, risk disrupting the natural cycle of creative destruction, potentially preserving inefficient incumbents at the expense of emerging innovators.

Concept Art- Light and Shadow#2
One of the unexpected joys of this project came from the feedback I received in class. Several people admired my initial sketch for its atmosphere, which I loved too. But, as the project theme was “light and shadow,” I knew I had to move beyond the simplicity of the first draft. Neal, my tutor, provided a crucial observation: although my scene had plenty of light, it lacked depth in the shadows. He suggested balancing the light-to-shadow ratio to 1:1, which I tried, but even then, I felt the shadow wasn’t substantial enough.
Revisiting the composition, I realized part of the problem lay in the structure of the buildings themselves. Originally, I saw the buildings as simple rectangular forms. But studying references and sketching further taught me that real architecture has countless layers, shapes, and textures, all of which affect how shadows form. If I could start again, I’d focus on diversifying the buildings’ shapes from the sketch phase, creating a more complex base that would naturally incorporate shadows and depth.
This feedback-driven adjustment taught me the importance of structure and foundational choices in concept art. By layering detail, both in light and in shadow, I’ve learned to see cityscapes not as static backdrops but as dynamic, living environments where light and shadow are in constant play. This project pushed me to explore my limitations and opened my eyes to the intricate possibilities in architectural detail. It has been a valuable experience, and I look forward to applying more environmental artworks.

Hooba Design Group clads Tehran office building in brick panels that adjust to the sunlight
Local architecture studio Hooba Design Group has completed an office building for the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran, which features a smart brick facade that adapts to different times of the day.
The Sharif Office Building was designed as a communal workspace for the Sharif Innovation Zone next to the university. It was built on top of an existing concrete structure that forms the ground floor of the building.
Top image and above: the Sharif Office Building is located next to the university in Tehran
This was expanded and completed with modifications based on Hooba Design Group's new design, which features specially-made smart-brick panels that adjust according to the sunlight.
To create the facade Hooba Design Group designed a brick that took its cue from the 1940s-style bricks that clad the nearby university buildings. The studio's version is larger, with a cut-out in the middle that is the same dimension as the traditional bricks.
Its facade is made from specially-designed bricks
"The intention was to reinterpret the traditional brick used in the university buildings, using industrial bricks," Hooba Design Group founder Hooman Balazadeh told Dezeen.
"The hole in this brick gives a semi-transparent character to the solid block."
These bricks, which were manufactured by Azarakhsh Bricks exclusively for the project, are set on panels equipped with light sensors that adjust according to the sunlight throughout the day.
These are set on panels that adjust to the sunlight
"They adjust based on lighting patterns and the required light exposure in the interior spaces," Balazadeh explained.
"Sensors are programmable based on two different scenarios and are set up based on user preferences in each floor."
Sharif Office Building has communal workspaces and offices
Designing the facade from brick but using new technology was a nod to the nearby 1960s brick-clad university buildings, as well as the fact that the Sharif Office Building will house students working on technological innovations.
The 7,200 square-metres building (77,500 square feet) will house the Bon Tech Institute, which was initiated by the Sharif University of Technology as a research-based communal working space for students.
It was built on an existing concrete structure. Photo is by Mohammad Hassan Ettefagh
"The aim of this group was to provide the students with adequate facilities for research and investigation and to reduce the huge amount of brain drain from the country," Balazadeh explained.
Sharif Office Building will have offices as well as common spaces, including a meeting space and a cafeteria which will be connected to the outdoors and the university commons. Inside, the offices are open and semi-open, separated by interior green spaces.
Its double skin helps to reduce energy consumption
Its design also took the surrounding environment into consideration,
"The double skin used in this project helps to control the sun heat exposure in the climate of Tehran and eventually reduces energy consumption during the hot season," Balazadeh said.
Hooba Design Group also designed a new type of brick for an earlier project, the headquarters of brick manufacturer Kohan Ceram, while its design for the Aptus concrete factory had an all-concrete envelope.
Photography is by Parham Taghioff unless otherwise stated.

Business Cards Made From Recycled OceanBound Material
Original article is from www.scrapmonster.com
From June 2017 to May 2018, Envision recycled 5.2 million pounds of plastic recovered from coastal areas of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

SEATTLE (Waste 360): OceanBound plastic is a sustainable product, made from plastic at risk of entering the world's oceans collected from five countries where it is most likely to end up in the oceans—China, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. Every pound of OceanBound plastic used is a pound of plastic that would have been permanently lost. In this project, Envision Plastics collects and recycles the waste, Klöckner Pentaplast processes the material into sheets and Plastic Printers produces business cards from the sheet.
“At my former position in the plastics industry, we had our business cards created from recycled Mountain Dew bottles. Everywhere we went, our cards generated a very positive reaction from our customers, members of the media and with those whom we met on Capitol Hill,” said Gene Sanders, executive director of SNAME, in a statement.
“Without the oceans, seas and waterways, we have no maritime industry, so our commitment to the ocean eco-system should be greater than anyone else’s. I am proud that we are leaders in this area, and we need more companies and organizations to follow our lead,” added Sanders.
“A key to ensuring financial stability around the effort will be getting big consumer packaged goods companies to commit to buying OceanBound resin,” said Tamsin Ettefagh, vice president of Envision Plastics, in a statement. “Otherwise, Envision may have to reduce its purchases of material.”
“In order to make collecting what we define as OceanBound plastic waste sustainable, Envision and the places we collect the scrap from need customers willing to make longer commitments than many of one-off purchases we have seen,” she added.
From June 2017 to May 2018, Envision recycled 5.2 million pounds of plastic recovered from coastal areas of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. According to Ettefagh, “the company is set to collect the same amount in the second year of the initiative, putting it on track to meet its [current] goal of 10 million pounds.”
Through the project, Envision pays prices to suppliers that would be competitive in the U.S. market, so the foreign suppliers can create jobs, instead of relying on volunteers, and generate bales with specifications roughly equivalent to domestic curbside bales.
“Plastic Printers is beyond excited and so grateful to have the opportunity to impact our environment and planet by helping find ways to repurpose OceanBound plastic. As we have requests daily for business cards made out of recycled materials, it is with great pleasure we help announce that recycled OceanBound plastic cards will be available beyond SNAME HQ staff soon,” said Katie Buss, director of marketing for Plastic Printers, in a statement.
