Alright here's something for your ask box: aside from baking breads and other awesome foods, and writing, of course, do you have any other hobbies you want to talk about?
Ooooooo this is fun. Thank you Estelian! (este? Lian? What’s your preferred nickname?)
I’m a big old dweeb. I love learning, specially about history. I think the last deep dive I did, to the consternation of my friends and family, was on the Six Wives of Henry VIII. And one time before that I gave myself nightmares because I read everything I could about bog bodies at 3am it’s a fascinating topic, it’s a burial practice! Just don’t recommend looking at the photos. Dont do it. It’s not worth it.
On the subject of learning as a hobby, a friend of mine and I are trying to learn ASL together. We’re excited.
I play video games, mostly of the cozy variety. Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer, Kingdom: Two Crowns are some faves. Legend of Zelda is the only game I play in its genre tbh but it’s a lot of good fun and I enjoy that it challenges me to get out of my comfort zone. There’s a lot of hijinks that come from me playing LoZ, which serves to make it very enjoyable.
I’m also a painter! I’ve tried my hand at murals (lots of fun) and years ago I entered some art competitions with some colored pencil sketches and a pointillism piece. Everything I’ve done is traditional in medium, so I’ve been trying my hand at digital art lately. It’s a fun challenge and it lets me exercise a different approach to my creativity.
What about you? Tell me some of your hobbies.

Here’s a fun word for the ask game: River
Using a fishing rod isn’t all bad, Wild decides as he watches the bobber dip beneath the calm waters of the river running through Ordon Village; he certainly can’t deny the streak of victory he feels as he reels in the catch.
But that feeling is destroyed almost instantly when a cat appears seemingly out of thin air and with its own declaration of victory, snatches the fish from the air.
“Sorry, cub,” Twilight says, grinning apologetically, “forget to warn you that that happens sometimes,” and with a exasperated sigh, Wild throws down his rod and prepares to revert to his old—completely cat proof—ways.

Fic: Fire and Ice Ch.1 (Fan Joy July day 26, my 16th pict for Fan Joy July)
I like this fic since the first chapter, and since then I immediately bookmarked your fic. The storyline is also easy for me to understand, so I have no trouble reading it with my limited English. I have only read up to chapter 2 because of Fan Joy July, but I will definitely continue reading your fic after this event is over.
Happy birthday, Este! You are a lovely person who is talented in writing and drawing! I am very happy to see your development from your first drawing until now, plus, your writing! Thank you for being my friend :D

I was gonna be a history teacher at one point… maybe some of that schooling rubbed off hehe. Symbolism is one of my favorite things in media, it’s fun to see and pick apart. It’s also fun the include in writing on the other side of things.
You did great! 💛😉 Ooooooo I’m gonna have to pick your brain more often. Your points were very fun to read.
I agree with all of your points, except maybe one? But I’ll get into that in a second. I agree, they make it abundantly clear that the Silent Princess is Zelda’s symbol with different aspects of BOTW and the. Even clearer with the inclusion of TOTK (spoilers, I go no further lol) and it tracks. She was the Silent Princess, she could have none of her own opinions or ideas. She was a made into symbol by her father.
Also! I also think that if you dig a little deeper into Zelda and her view of the Silent Princess… she relates to the flower a lot and I think that fuels her obsession with it, however… and this is if I’m remembering the memory correctly, it’s also meant to be one of Link’s symbols as well. But more of… their combined symbol, pre-calamity. I think she realizes that he’s much the same, like you said both are freer in the wilds, away from the castle.
The only point that I will maybe push a little is the Silent Princess in her lab at the Castle. I saw it less as her figuring out how to get it to grow domestically and more… a symbol of how she’s been freed from the life that once stifled her. The location of it is so interesting because it’s not her bedroom, it’s her office/lab. Which we know was a very important place to her, a sanctuary within the walls of a place she felt stifled in. It was likely an offshoot from the flower that she was trying to grow 100 years prior and in the downfall of everything she’d been forced to represent… it survived and then flourished. Showing that she would do the same.
Gimme your thoughts on the symbolism of the silent princess in BOTW pls and thank yyoouu
ooooooo a symbolism ask. I haven’t seen a prompt like that since high school😂 let’s see if I’ve still got it:
I believe that the silent princess represents Zelda. I mean first off it’s got the same color scheme as her usual outfits. Second, the name. Third, Zelda has one growing in her study. I think we can assume that zelda has been studying these plants and that she may have had something to do with their recovery as a species. In the game, Zelda explains that they haven’t been able to grow them domestically, yet we find one in her study, so I’m going to guess that Zelda eventually figured out how to do it. But I’m getting off track here.
back to the symbolism, Zelda also explains that the silent princess can’t grow domestically and only thrives out in the wilds. Again we see a strong parallelism with Zelda herself. She is stifled by her duties as a princess and the expectations of her father. The few times we see her happy are when she’s out exploring the wilds as a scientist. This is where she thrives. This also implies that after the calamity, Zelda will also flourish in the wilderness, free from her previous burdens.
another point I would like to analyze here is the name: Silent Princess. I believe it strongly represent everything Zelda is expected to be. She is meant to fulfill her duties, and isn’t really allowed to pursue her own opinions, dreams, or wishes before the calamity.
We know that Link became selectively mute sometime before the shrine of resurrection because of the burden he bore as the wielder of the sword that seals the darkness and his role as Zelda’s guard. So we can also argue that the silent princess may also represent Link. Again the color scheme matches his. Again, he is stifled by the expectations of others and his role. Again, he too seems much happier after the shrine in the wilds. Again I think we can assume that he will also thrive in the wilderness and his newfound freedom.
and there you have it. How’d I do?😉

Celebration: 88,978 Words in One Day!
Just yesterday, a few other LU writers and I, Hot Cheeto Hatred, hosted our first ever monthly (hopefully) Write-a-thon! This event ran on June 4 from 12 am EST to 12 am EST, with one goal in mind---write as many productive words within that day as humanly possible. Words included in the final marathon count ranged from storyboarding, fic writing, editing, answering comments, journalling and homework---basically, any words that furthered yourself, the writing community at large, or your stories. We utilized either the Discord Sprint bot or self-reporting to collect the numbers at the end. Everyone involved gave it their all, with most of them being present for most if not all of the run time as they were able, and I'm so proud of their dedication towards their craft. Anyways, here's the final breakdown of the numbers below, as well as the awards and titles earned by each participant, as decided by the discord server (and myself at random).
Now onto the awards:
I am pleased to report that @not-freyja (Freyja above) won the "Writer of All Time" Award, pulling ahead with 20,565 of our total words. What an accomplishment! Freyja participated from dawn to well, dawn, and they absolutely deserve all praise and awe.
I'm giving myself, @hotcheetohatred (Cheeto), the award "Writer of Some Time," as I fell behind our lovely Freyja by a mere few hundred words fifteen minutes before the clock struck midnight. Next time, Freyja, next time...
The "Actually A Writer" award goes to @marcusdoodlesalot (Marcus), who, despite the name, DOES actually write, not just draw! Who would have thought. Not Freyja, that's for sure.
The "Early Bird" award goes to @lerikwrites (Lerik), who solely sprinted in the wee hours of the morning (my time, at least). Terrible. Good job.
"Star Commentor" goes to @elle-rosewater (Eliot), because I stole most of her words for the count from my own comment section in the BDOR Prologues. We love you, Eliot :3 Can't wait to see you next month.
"Cheerleader" goes to @la-sera, who gave us much encouragement throughout the day. I stole your 19 words from you saying you were excited to read Estelian's work. Hope that's okay, because I really wanted to include you---you provided a lot, even if you didn't write with us this time <3.
@whumpitywhumpitywhumpity (Dowsemaxxer) earns "Spirit-ed Storyboarder" for all of his lovely, informative talk on Spirit and just what makes him so great as a rather underappreciated LU boy.
Two awards next! "Chief Editor" and "Most Student" both go to @unexpectedstormy (Stormy) for faer work on getting. stuff. done. Fae did a steady amount of work, so proud.
"Editor (of Word Count) in Chief" goes to @tashacee (Tash), who, at reporting time, was scrounging up 100 and 200 word bits like spare change while I desperately tried to do math. I love you, never change.
The title of "Specter" goes to @somer-writes (Somer), who logged in very few sprints, but participated with the rest of us and pulled up at the end with a whole 7.5K words and a bunch of fics to post at the end, with a lot of it being Ghost AU! He's amazing.
The award "Better Late than Never" goes to our resident artist and recently turned fic-writer @estelian-01 (Este), who joined only in the last half of the marathon but managed to pull a whole 4K! Pictures might be worth a thousand words, but Este wrote a couple more anyway.
@across-violet-skies (Riv) gets the title "Mover and Shaker (of Blorbos)" for managing to participate and get quite the hefty wordcount only a DAY after moving. They're a trooper, that's for sure.
@anime-obsessed (Vio/Nene) earns the award "Most Old School" for writing with pen and paper for most of the day. Please go rest your wrist after all of that.
The award "Head in the Clouds" goes to my bestie and beloved beta reader @needfantasticstories (Skip), who spent the day listening to music and writing Skyloft drabbles. I am nervous/excited to see if those drabbles turned out fluffy as a Loftwing, or perhaps into something more angsty.
@noorahqar (Qar), my lovely fragile Victorian wife, earns the title "Chatty." You know why. But you were there nearly all of the run time, and so engaging and encouraging throughout---a blessing to us all. And even then, you managed to pull so many words. I'm impressed.
And finally, @rosehipandroots / @rosetintedtears (Rose) receives the titles "ndskanefnre" (self chosen) and "Birthday Santa." The first was borne of panic of being asked to choose a title---the second of her relentless effort to get her birthday fics done. Great job.
I'd like to thank everyone that I tagged for participating in the write-a-thon, and thank all of you for helping me draft this post as well. If I messed up any word counts or details or pronouns, you want to request a title/award change, or I missed someone, please DM and let me know! The next Write-a-thon will be held on July 1 from 12am to 12am GMT, and we'll be trying to beat our record. Can't wait to see all of you then!

guess. guess. guess. guess!!!!
today is the day. for you. it is este day. have this fic. it is for you. for your day. I love you! have a good day. no. a GREAT day. no. a WONDERFUL day. today. on this day.
preview under the cut!! <3
Hyrule grinned as Wild picked an apple off a tree, waving the fruit at the rest of them. Legend, Sky, Warriors, and Time were all resting on a tree branch, watching with idle amusement. Twilight had gone off into the woods some time ago to scout. Four was reading a book while leaning against a tree trunk, and Hyrule, Wild, and Wind were all playing a weird game of catch. With apples.
They were camped on a scenic cliff that overhung a vast ocean, with waves that sparkled tantalizingly in the distance. Nobody had claimed this world as their own, but Wild had mentioned a similarity to a location in his era. But wherever– whenever, really– they were, it was beautiful, and the weather reflected that.
“‘Rule, catch!” Wild tossed an apple. Bright red and shiny, this hefty fruit had been growing for some time. It was practically begging to be eaten, and here it was, flying through the air to be caught in Hyrule’s waiting hands.
Wild’s expression turned suddenly. “Wait, Hyrule, be careful!” The Champion reached out a hand, but he was far too distant to be of any help. Hyrule, focused on catching the apple, stepped backward off the edge of the cliff, tumbling down toward the dark sea below.
It didn’t seem so friendly and inviting now as he hurtled toward the water. He couldn’t swim. If he wasn’t tall enough to stand– and let’s be honest, he didn’t have enough height for that to be a feasible option– then he would surely drown. There was no way for him to stop his fall, to slow his descent, to avoid certain death-
Oh. Wait. Yeah, there was.
Taking a deep breath, Hyrule exploded into a tiny ball of magic, delicate fairy wings catching on the gentle breeze. Okay. Okay! He was fine! Now all he had to do was fly back up to join his brothers, and-
Something oddly Hylian-shaped fell to his side, diving neatly into the ocean below. The force of it made Hyrule tumble in the air, his wings shuddering from the intensity. Once he managed to right himself again, the tiny fairy peered down, searching for any indication of what– or who, more likely– had just dove into the water.
He fluttered down closer to the water. A mountain of bubbles foamed at the surface, obscuring his view. As the bubbles cleared, Hyrule could make out a shiny pink shape, vaguely Hylian in nature.
Was that… Legend?

Wind, Water, and Four
(DAY 25: Waterboarding)
Summary:
In Four's era, Wind meets Jago's gang.
Notes:
HUGE thanks to @somerknights and @estelian-01 and @hotcheetohatredwastaken for BETA reading.
Wind wasn’t often afraid of water. He loved the high seas with its open horizon and kaleidoscope of blues and greens. Not much felt so refreshing as a kiss of saltwater spraying on his face during a hard day of sailing.
But right now, he looked at the simple bucket of water beside him with genuine fear. A towel dangled in the hands of a strange man who stood over Wind. He was tall with short facial hair over his lip and chin, and an obnoxious smirk. Judging by the crooked smile, he was probably just as cocky as Warrior, but certainly not as friendly as the Captain. The man’s grang of rouges sitting on crates around the room muttered in excitement.
“It’s a simple question, kid. You tell me where Link left that sword, and we’ll have no issue. But if you want to make it interesting, I don’t mind playing a few games before you talk.” The gang of low-lifes around him laughed.
Wind glowered and tried not to let it show how he struggled in his restraints, feeling for the knots that pinned his arms to the short end of the wooden bench.
“No? You want to play the game? Fine. Let’s get started!” The man threw the towel over Wind’s face. Wind quickly drew in a breath and held it.
Starting from the top of his head and creeping down came the pressure of water saturating the towel. It trickled down over his nose, then too quickly over his mouth and chin, sealing the dense fabric against his skin. There was no way for air to get through it now, except the tiniest waterlogged straw-suck of air if he was lucky enough for the towel to be old and worn. It did not feel worn. He tried not to think too much about it and held still. He could stay calm. His previous record for holding his breath was two minutes, and his shortest escape was 30 seconds, after all. Nevermind the longer ones, but there wasn’t time to dwell on that.
He picked at the knots, first the left hand, as pressure built in his chest. A drip slid from the rag into his nostril, and he tried not to panic. Hold hold hold . He thought and his nimble fingers worked into the coarse rope.
One almost free! His face felt hot with pressure. His lungs burned. His heart raced.
A punch to his gut ruined everything.
He gasped, but only sucked fabric and water in, and he choked as water tickled down his airway. He tried to breathe in again, and coughed out, but nothing came back in except more water. His mind felt washed in white. He arched his back as his legs thrashed and his arms jerked but he couldn't get a single breath, only more and more water dripping and sucked in from his desperate attempts. His neck ached from straining his arms and shoulders, his throat hurt, and his face burned. He’d lost track of which way was up and down, mind spinning even in his blindness.
His thrashing grew weaker and weaker.
The rag lifted, and he gulped in the precious air, a spray of water sent into his lungs along with it. His chest heaved like a boat in a storm, up and down. He watched it himself, aching and relieved and afraid.
“Wasn’t that fun?” The man leered down at him. “Want to play again, or will you tell me where he keeps the blade?”
“What blade?!” Wind gasped. Right hand right hand right hand . The dim wood-paneled room looked fuzzy, all the light glittering too brightly from the water still coating his eyelashes. “Which Link? There are tons of people named Link!”
“What? Kid, there’s only one in this town, and everyone knows him. That bratty son of the Captain, he’s such a show-off it’s hard to miss. And you know that, I bet. You’re traveling with him. I bet he’s pissed you off a few times, eh? Why not give him a little taste of his own medicine? We don’t even want him . Just a sword he took from some shrine in the middle of nowhere. we just want to put it back. We’re like those, uh, what do they call them?”
“Archeologists,” a man in a red bandana supplied.
“That’s it! Archeologists. That’s us, you see? Interested in ancient things. He’s stolen an old thing, and we just want to put it back. So what is it? Keep playing our game, or will you tell us?”
The man was like Warrior in more ways than one. He had this gang under his thumb, and didn’t take disrespect. “You can take that glass bottle over there and shove i–”
Down came the cloth, but Wind timed his last breath well. He’d be able to focus for a few seconds. He worked his fingers just right when a kick to his stomach threw his fragile plan off track, once again. He gasped, and floundered on the wood bench.
They let him get another taste of fresh air for a brief moment. Right hand right hand right hand . He wished he was as ambidextrous as Twilight. He hooked one finger in the knot and pushed in, wiggling and worming to loosen the knot.
But all too quickly, his limbs flopped as the white fog clouded his mind again. He felt a strange, almost happy weightlessness. Then the rag was gone, and he gagged on a mouthful of water, spitting it out violently.
A grumble at his side. He coughed and looked up. His captor was glaring, water all over his cheap cravat and grimey vest.
A woman nearby laughed. “Oh, Jago doesn’t take being disrespected, lad!”
Wind gave an exhausted smile of his own, and looked to the man's hip for a promising flash of silver, and he found it.
Wind lunged. One fist closed over the handle of Jago’s knife, the other he fist swung into the man’s belly. Jago’s smirk shattered as he doubled over.
Wind sliced the ropes at his feet, grateful the blade proved sharp, cutting them free in only a few slices.
The ragtag criminals shouted and lunged first for their leader, and then for him, but it was too late. He’d already rolled off the bench and under their feet.
The door was barred, but he hauled up the crossbeam and shoved it back into the crowd closing in behind him. Those in front fell back under its weight, forcing those behind to dodge around the fallen. Wind ducked under a grasping hand and hurled the door open. Narrowly avoiding the tackle of two scraggly criminals, he danced between the thin groups in the evening crowd, heading for the widest and most crowded roads he could find.
They chased him, shrieks and angry shouts bursting behind him, until at last he skidded into the crowded market. Lamps reflected in a beautiful fountain that he had too little time to appreciate. There were covered stalls everywhere. He ran into an alley near one, then turned and slid under the table of a silk merchant. Footsteps followed into the alley, and gruff curses soon followed, but Wind didn’t wait. He crawled under table after table, and at the end he made a run for the inn.
“Wind!” Four shouted in relief as he ran into the end where the others had been staying. Twilight and Sky whispered prayers of thanks.
“Where are the others?” Wind asked.
“They’re out looking for you! What happened?” Four demanded. “Why are you all wet?”
Wind huffed, and glared at the irritation in Four’s voice, but it was all hitting him now. He blinked the shine of his eyes away and demanded, “Who in the High Seas is Jago?”
The door slammed open a second time, startling the other patrons who had already been staring at them in nosy interest. Warrior stood in the frame, tense as a bowstring, but when he saw Wind he sprung inside and grabbed the sailor by the shoulders.
“Thank Farore. Time and I found those hooligans in the market. The knights are rounding them up.”
Four asked, far more gently, “Wind, what happened?”
“I’m fine!” He assured them both, though his coughing fit after made the others only look more worried. “It’s a long story. Can we get food first?”

Time looks at him, his expression almost pleading. “Why…it-it’s so cold.”
He brings up a hand to pull weakly at the cloth. Twilight grasps his wrist before he can manage to fling it off and carefully guides his hand back down to his side.

alright, here’s a question for you: what’s your favorite color and how would you describe it?
I somehow have three asks in my inbox but can only see this one??? Weird. Anyways…
My favorite color (at the moment) is yellow.
It’s the color that looks the way sour candy tastes, bright and vibrant. It’s the color that looks the way laughter with your friends feels, warm and happy. It’s the hue of the leaves of certain trees turn to when the air begins to chill; a cool toned ochre that’s color of the winter sun on my brother’s blonde hair but all the warmth and softness of my favorite cardigan. It’s eating lemon slices from your tea glass while sitting at a diner with your friends, laughing at the funny faces each other makes and feeling that sunburst of joy bursting in your chest. It’s the color happiness leaves on your memories.
How’s that? Or is it too abstract.
