Akaashi and his friends are spending the day on the beach and he just can't stop looking at Bokuto.

i think i accidentally made akaashi the rizzler in this but i didn't mean to, i just love the idea of akaashi's love being quiet but so overwhelming for bokuto

It was hot. Devastatingly so.

Even under the shade of his huge beach umbrella, Akaashi was sweating through his thin t-shirt. It didn’t help that his gorgeous boyfriend was running to and fro in the ocean waves, taking a break from playing beach volleyball with their friends, his muscles shifting with every movement and skin shining with sweat and water.

He let out a slow breath, placing his bookmark in his book and putting it away in the beach bag under his chair. He glanced over at Kenma beside him who was seemingly engrossed in his video game. Akaashi could see his eyes darting up to look at his boyfriend though, who was also splashing in the waves. Akaashi shifted his gaze back toward the waterline just in time to watch Kuroo jump on Bokuto’s back, sending them both crashing into the water.

He giggled and heard Kenma snort beside him.

Logically, he knew that getting in the water would work quickly to cool him off, but he’d never be able to convince Kenma to come along. And based on what he just witnessed between Kuroo and Bokuto, going there alone to join them would be a risk.

Just then, a flash of orange hair and two loud voices caught his attention. Hinata and Kageyama had returned from the small beach hut, carrying six cups of brightly coloured shaved ice.

“Thank God,” he said, causing Kenma to look back up in the direction Akaashi was facing, muttering a ‘finally’ under his breath. 

Kenma raised his arm and groaned, “Us first, guys. Those idiots are entertaining themselves well enough.”

“Which idiots would those be exactly?” Kuroo asked from above Kenma, who jumped at his boyfriend’s voice, obviously expecting him to still be in the waves. The elder squished his cheeks with a hand and leaned down to kiss him.

“Your hands are sticky and sandy, go away,” Kenma gently shoved Kuroo away despite definitely leaning in and kissing him back a second ago.

Akaashi turned, looking for his own boyfriend, who was now jogging away from Hinata and Kageyama with two cups of shaved ice, one red and one blue. He smiled and stood from his lounge chair, waiting for Bokuto to reach him.

“Kaashi! Did you see my spike in the last game?! I totally blew them away!” Bokuto was practically exploding with excitement.

Akaashi, in turn, felt a burst of love for Bokuto, glad that even the heat couldn’t put a damper on his boyfriend’s spirits. He reached up to smooth back a spike of Bokuto’s hair and took the blue shaved ice from his boyfriend’s outstretched hand.

“I did, Bokuto, it was great.”

Bokuto huffed out a breath, “I honestly didn’t think I was going to get it because of how slippery the sand was but I got it in any way.”

Akaashi smiled and looked up at him, “I knew you were going to get it from the second you started moving.”

“Akaashi!” Bokuto yelled, throwing his arms around Akaashi’s middle and lifting him up, spinning him around as Akaashi laughed into his neck, being careful to not spill his treat.

“I don’t know how you two are even touching each other let alone hugging in this heat,” Kageyama said.

“Oh please, as if you and Shoyo weren’t holding hands the entire walk to the beach hut,” Kuroo rolled his eyes from where he was sitting at the edge of Kenma’s chair, massaging Kenma’s calf in his lap, who was talking to Hinata.

Even now, despite being engaged in different conversations, Kageyama and Hinata had their pinkies linked.

“Whatever,” Kageyama turned to Hinata, who was teasing Kenma about his aversion to the water.

(“You really are like a cat!”

“I just don’t want my hair to be wet.”

“Yeah…like a cat.”)

Akaashi placed his shaved ice on the small table beside his chair and smiled to himself, he had grown fond of Kageyama through the years. While their friendship started much later than the rest of the group and was generally dominated by the extreme personalities of Kuroo, Hinata, and Bokuto, they had come to appreciate each other’s ability to operate in comfortable silence. And it didn’t help that Akaashi was always a sucker for a good character arc and Kageyama had grown so much since high school.

Akaashi couldn’t even blame Kageyama for being so attached to his boyfriend because he was the same way with his. He’d rather be right by Bokuto’s side in a new place than alone in a familiar one, would rather be sharing a new kind of food with him than eating something familiar by himself. For Akaashi, he’d rather do anything with Bokuto than without him. He was his best friend, his lover, his everything.

He sighed in Bokuto’s arms, who gently pushed away to look at the setter.

Bringing a hand to his cheek, Bokuto asked, “What are you thinking about?”

“I’m thinking about how high our water bill is going to be after the shower you’ll need when we get home.”

“Hey!” Bokuto pouted, “It’s not that bad.”

Akaashi laughed lightly, tracing a finger down Bokuto’s chest, “Honestly? I’m thinking about you. I’m thinking about how I love being with you. How I love everything about you, everything about us.”

Bokuto’s entire face went red and he threw himself back onto Akaashi, burying his face in his neck, “Oh my god, ‘Kaashi! Your honesty is too much sometimes.”

Akaashi couldn’t help but giggle in response, “I’m only saying what I truly feel. You deserve to hear how wonderful I think you are.”

Bokuto looked back at him and caught Akaashi’s mouth in a hard kiss, pulling the younger into him as if they could get any closer. Akaashi couldn’t help but smile, pushing up a little onto his toes and wrapping his arms around Bokuto’s neck as the older gently started kissing down his jaw and neck, sighing in contentment. He no longer cared about the heat or the fact that they were on a semi-public beach, he was just happy to be in this moment with Koutarou. 

“Hey! They spent good money on those ice cups! Don’t complain when they’re all melted ‘cause you wanted to feel each other up!” Kuroo’s voices came fast and loud, effectively ruining whatever little moment Akaashi and Bokuto were sharing.

They broke apart, Akaashi turning to lean his back into Bokuto’s chest, who naturally came to rest his arm around Akaashi’s waist. Akaashi could see Kenma flicking Kuroo on the cheek, probably telling him to mind his own business.

Akaashi hummed and gently patted Bokuto’s hip twice before he took a step towards the table, picking his shaved ice back up. When he turned back around, Bokuto had started eating his, his tongue already a bright red that was spreading to his lips with every bite he took. Akaashi brought a spoonful of blue ice into his own mouth, savouring how cold it was. He watched Bokuto bring another spoonful up, watched as his bicep flexed at even that small movement.

Damn, it really was hot out here.

Bokuto caught him staring and tried to subtly flex again, tried being the key word as Akaashi noticed right away, gently smacking his arm and telling him to stop being a show-off. Bokuto just winked and smiled a bright, cherry-red smile. Akaashi in turn gave him a bright blue one.

“Wow, these food dyes really are strong,” Bokuto pointed out, crouching down to the bag underneath Akaashi’s chair and pulling out the small digital camera they’d brought. He brought it ridiculously close to Akaashi’s face (who obligingly gave a giant, ridiculous, blue-tinged smile in return) and took a picture.

He turned the camera to Akaashi, who in turn took a similar photo of Bokuto.

Flipping back and forth between the photos, Bokuto chuckled, “We match. You’re neon blue, I’m neon red.”

And Akaashi couldn’t help himself when he said, “Good thing I really like purple,” and leaned towards Bokuto, kissing him once again.

Wait, what does PDA stand for?

Kageyhina and Bokuaka are on different sides of the PDA spectrum. Bokuaka is public displays of affection and Kageyhina is public displays of aggression. Both of their teams have created rules to prevent the couples in question from getting everyone else kicked out of establishments.

not to drop a litle negativity here but I saw a haikyu ship poll to which personally, I don't mind if you like other main ships over bokuaka

if you like iwaoi more than bokuaka? that's valid! because it's your preference

kagehina over bokuaka? also valid! because again that's your opinion and I can respect it and so on for the other main ships

although in the very least, don't downplay/twist the canon material to prove that your ship is superior TvT. Furudate-sensei didn't canonically state that bokuaka were written to be foils to each other, both of them being each other's greatest inspiration in the OFFICIAL character sheet and have a well written dynamic for you to oversimplify what their dynamic amounted to at the end of the series.

for context, the haikyu ship poll that sort of spread caused tension cause they added extra captions like asanoya being a flop ship, iwaoi inventing love over bokuaka and the likes to which they also tweeted this:

personally I can respect op for liking iwaoi over bokuaka because that's their opinion + I love iwaoi chaotic childhood friends my beloved :'<< but for their argument to not give a proper reason/ water down bokuaka's dynamic is really saddening

so instead of cooking op since the quotes on the tweet are doing it (and I personally don't like starting/insulting anyone cause it just adds fuel to the flame than any actual progress) I'll just drop an actual list of evidence as to why this is wrong:

"They had like 5 moments"

bokuaka had more moments than solely 5 moments as op states and to make it fair I'll be removing bokuaka main moments this would include: iddle fleeting thought, we are the protagonists, give me your 120%.

It's important to note that most of bokuaka's main moments are found in Fukurodani's respective match. However if we remove these 3 pivotal moments than it still manages to disprove they had only 5 moments because bokuaka had a severe number of moments prior to this which would include the following:

a. Training camp arc: naturally bokuaka's introduction, bokuto doing a killer spike and immediately choosing to ask akaashi if he saw it, and of course the most well known moment of bokuto receiving an emo mode and alaashi not only knowing how to solve it but also that he knows bokuto's weaknesses, instills it in his mind

b. Post Training camp arc: albeit briefly, bokuto and akaashi were shown to which bokuto swears that he's been praise and akaashi brushes it off. despite being a brief moment, it shows alone that bokuaka hang out together in lunch or they are each other's company

c. Land vs Sky: it's been a while since I watched this so my apologies if my memory is rusty but I remember nekoma'a attempts of shutting bokuto down to which akaashi noticed + motivated bokuto

d. Nationals arc: this one naturally has the most but to simplify and at least show they had moments would be the little interactions they had throughout karasuno's matches, "THAT'S OUR TSUKI" "He's not ours Bokuto-san", akaashi being worried for bokuto and asking him to go back into the hotel due to the flu only for bokuto to bring it up again later on meaning he remembers akaashi's words, and naturally the entirety of the mujinazaka match that showed their backstories, established firther that bokuto cares about akaashi just as much and is attentive of him and the growth of their characters not solely as a pair but as individuals

With this, tell me then, did bokuaka only have just 5 moments? Even if you take away the moments bokuaka are most known for, there's still a SEVERE number of moments the two of them shared.

And dont get me started on timeskip because that's for the next point-

"bokuto never mentioned that man out of highschool?"

To put it simply, a good portion of the timeskip arc was the msby vs adlers match, this includes bokuto's appearance who mainly is in the story AT THE START OF THE MATCH. Meaning, there wasn't a window of opportunity for bokuto to talk about akaashi because Furudate-sensei had him and his main focus already at the match, there wasn't any slice of life tidbit as both teams went straight into the match after the bathroom confrontation. It would be very out of place if bokuto mentioned akaashi in the middle of a pretty intense match/it wouldnt have made sense for bokuto just randomly bring up akaashi while he's spiking during the match.

bokuto has in fact made a reference to akaashi during the match/post highschool. When hinata and atsumu unleash a killer spike against the Adlers, bokuto shouted "the first strike is always the most lethal!" (or something similar, I forgot the exact quote :'DD) to which is a nod and referencr to the EXACT same thing akaashi said during the inarizaki match. Not only this but mind you that bokuto shouted this WITH akaashi in two very DIFFERENT places. It implies that bokuto still remembers akaashi or references him and the things they tell each other all the way from highschool

the ultimate evidence is of course the post match because bokuto quite literally meets akaashi again when he gets interviewed. how does bokuto react? big smile on his face and invites akaashi to a meat date later on (I don't even mean to write this in a romantic context because the fact that bokuto wanted to hang out and spend time with akaashi in and of itself shows that akaashi is still relevant and important in his life)

There's so much more evidence to simply say that op's tweet is wrong but it would make this post severely long. Simply, it's one thing to choose, disrespect even, another person's ship but it's another to simply discard canon in the hopes of proving another ship is better.

Bokuaka are so much more than what they're iconic moments dictate them for, I mentioned it once but I'll say it again: the fact that they're not even childhood friends or in different years yet still grounded in a dynamic of trust and respect that carries to the years is impressive and just shows why they're a very beloved ship in the community in the first place.

A quiet click of the door, rustling of the sheets, the comforting smell of honey and soothing warmth embracing his body. Keiji stirs, awoken from his dream, but still not conscious enough to open his tired eyes.

“Hi, love,” Koutarou whispers right into his ear, leaving a warm peck on the nape of his neck. His arm curls over Keiji’s waist in a grounding grip. Momentarily, Keiji clings to his husband’s hand, their fingers intertwining.

He turns his head, needing to get even closer, but bumps his cheek straight into Koutarou’s nose. But his husband knows exactly what to do so he pushes himself up just enough to close the distance between their craving mouths. The kiss begins as a slow, lazy slide of the lips as if to remind them that it’s real and they’re finally here together after almost a month of being apart. Keiji missed it so badly, getting to feel Koutarou’s warmth, curling himself into his strong chest, losing his mind over the familiar scent of his lover.

Most times their welcome home kisses get frantic real quick as they lose their clothes the moment the apartment door closes. But this time it’s late and they both crave a good night’s sleep, so the slow movement of lips and a barely-there hint of tongue is just perfect to ease them into it.

“Hello, Kou,” Keiji whispers back. “You’re here. I’m sorry I couldn’t get you from the station.”

“Mm, that’s okay.” Koutarou kisses the corner of his mouth, then lays back on the pillow and nudges the back of Keiji’s head with his nose.

“What time is it?”

“Nearly three. We should sleep, baby,” He says, readjusting the bedsheet, so they’re both comfortably covered. “We have the weekend all to ourselves.”

Keiji hums with contentment as he almost falls back to sleep with a small smile visible on his lips. “Goodnight, I love you.”

So a few years ago, I had an idea for like, this one nice and short Bokuaka fic, no sweat, no pressure. It was like a superpowers AU, but not a superhero thing. More like...a cross between X-Men, and bnha if it was like 100 years ago in terms of that series’ canon, and also AFO never existed.

Weeeelll here’s how writing’s going for me at the moment...

I don’t wanna talk about it. i’m still pretending it’s not happening. all these fics take place at the same fucking time. three out of four of them have longass playlists on Spotify already. 

...Swansong and Temper are actually fairly established at this point (hence them being more of a priority), but I haven’t really talked about them before because they’re on my Super Secret Other Ao3 Account. Don’t tell anyone.

Maybe I’ll post the shhh thing today, I kinda have a chapter now? Insight’ll be a while off tho, I might restrain myself and save it for NaNo. Or maybe i’ll start writing it after dinner, who knows. I think I almost love it the most out of all of them at the moment, it’s gonna be a blast. 

Anyway, I guess this is my life for now? Oh, and just for the road, here’s a bit of an Insight insight, entirely devoid of any further context. Because why not. I give up.

thoughts: wow!! 7 million words LMAO. i have a habit of switching from desktop to phone mid-reading a fic so that’s why i think i visited fics so many different times. i’m also curious if the spelling of a character’s name in the fic tags affects their ranking (do bokuto koutarou & bokuto kotaro count as the same character?)

the stuff i’m most surprised by are kyouhaba beating sakuatsu!!! and sunaosa not being higher. they’re my favorite tbh. also, if you’re asking me, my most read fic of the year was anyone else but you, but it’s techincally a one shot so i didn’t have to keep visiting it multiple times like you would for chapters (again i’m not sure how this was calculated exactly).

canon compliant seems a little weird to be in my top 5, but because i tend to like reading short (50k>) friends to lovers getting together type of fic i could easily see a lot of them falling into canon compliant. i 34845926597498% prefer getting together to established relationship that was not surprising at all. i did read a lot of iwaoi and bokuaka, and despite sunaosa being my favorite, i think the others are higher because they have so many more fics.

i’ve actually fallen off fic reading lately, between seasonal depression exponentially multiplying regular depression, as well as me being horrible at timing my library holds and having lots of original fiction to read lol (this was my top book of this year, yes there’s a lot of hype for this book and yes it is deserved)

i think it might be fun to do a wrap of my personal favorite fics/authors of the year, so maybe look out for that lol. anyway if you’ve read all this cmere i’m giving you a kiss on the cheek

11. Who is your favorite character to write for?

Perhaps it's already a given but my favorites to write are genuinely Bokuto and Akaashi <33!

I have tried to write for other characters in Haikyu like Hinata, Oikawa, etc but I fear I don't do them justice TvT and I'm sure there are a lot more people capable of writing and understanding their characters better than me so Bokuaka will always be my place to fall safely to if that makes sense ^^;

However, if I were to choose whose perspective I love and write more for between Bokuto and Akaashi, it would be Bokuto actually :0!

Personally, my favorite character type has always been the sunshine, cheerful, happy vibes character. With that, it's easier for me follow along their mannerisms and dialogue because I understand and connect with them easier, hence making Akaashi ironically a little more difficult to write because he's the general opposite of that.

Akaashi is so interesting and hard to write because he's generally straight forward and blunt and yet there's a weirdness to him that adds an extra layer of personality that needs to be considered when writing him. However Bokuto, he's mostly established as the optimistic, happy and full of energy + life character.

Yet despite all of Bokuto's personality, he isn't a fool. He knows when a match is getting serious, he can understand and read people to a good extent, giving something for them to remember that helps them pick themselves back up (example: Tsukishima, Akaashi and generally Fukurodani during the Nationals arc match).

People often consider Bokuto very straight to the point to write or associate him with just one trait such as "happy" , "energetic" or (and in the lightest way possible cause calling him this is another debacle and mischaracterization on its own) "stupid", but I think there's a unique complexitiy to Bokuto's character that isn't explored too much that I want to be able to write better and why I find writing for Bokuto my favorite <33

so, i’ve been reading a GOD awful lot of fanfic recently after going through a relatively dry spell where i was reading real books for a change

i am really only reading like, one pairing right now (curse you iwaoi), and i have purposefully only tried to read the fics i know i will like. because i don’t want to read something that will put me into a slump, you know. what i’ve read is good, generally speaking. for example, i really, really liked the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle. i reflect on that fic and thing: “wow, that was really, really amazing with interesting characterizations, good humor/comedy, and so many insect facts that it balanced out the romance.” and, upon reflecting of how much i think it’s amazing, i’m left thinking: why isn’t it one of my favorites?

well, here’s where i come to my conclusion: i love reading ship fics when i get into a mood of them. but, on the same token, i am not someone who actually likes reading pure romance. this is why i tend to read getting together fics more than i like fics that already have a pre-established relationship. i just don’t care as much when the characters are actually, fully romantically involved. also, too much romance just isn’t my thing. so, then, following this rule, still why isn’t the courtship of the hercules beetle one of my favorites?

and here is my second conclusion: the stakes aren’t high enough. wow. shocker. if someone took a look down all my published fics, they would give me a dead-eyed look and say “seriously, are you just now coming to this realization?” anyway, this is to say, i like romance when it’s there. but i need it with someone else. and that something else should include either (preferably both): a character’s physical well-being in immediate peril, or a chatacter’s mental well-being in immediate peril. that is the higher stakes, the dramatics of it all.

because it really isn’t enough to have a character crying because their best friend won’t love them back. i need them fraying at the edges because their life is falling apart in a million ways. i need them in a coma from a literal, medical heart attack. this is why i think i have when i awake as one of my favorite fanfics versus the courtship of the hercules beetle. because while the latter is so overwhelming with beetle facts in improper places that i love it and think about it all the damn time, the former has a character that could die at literally any second, his entire corporeal form vanishing and leaving the other without a clue as to what happened.

yes. i love me some of the proper dramatics. the life and death of it all. give it to me NOW rachel

(and you may be thinking, what about those fics like in another life or the galaxy is endless (i thought we were, too). truth is, i have my own individual gripe with the galaxy is endless, and as for in another life… i don’t know. i actually really love bokuaka, but i was not attached to them in the fic. and in both, i was never stressed out enough. i knew they were going to die. with when i awake (a bungou stray dogs fic, btw) , the stakes are always there. an omnipresent force. i knew the ending of the galaxy is endless and in another life, so i guess i didn’t care as much.)
