July Newsletter: Discounts, new Book of Judges and more
We’ve got news on the new edition of Judges, discounts, blogs and more this month
New Judges with more pages!
In September, we will be officially releasing the new version of The Book of Judges. This new edition features the NIV translation but also even more pages! Now, I know what you’re thinking but we didn’t add anything to the biblical text, we spread the existing panels over more pages making it so the pages are not so cramped and the illustrations are larger, we also lightened up the images as our first edition was very dark.
In this example below, the top left page is the original page, which becomes three pages in the new edition including two new panels and verse reference numbers in the corners.
If you can’t wait until September you can preorder it via the UK online shop and pay postage to your location and you’ll receive it before the official release. (Note: Kickstarter Backers of Song of Songs who added Judges will get this new version)
The new Judges graphic novel was showcased at the American Library Association Convention of over 10,000 librarians last month and this month will be at the Christian Product Expo in Kentucky.
Discount!
If you are ordering books direct from us (via the UK online shop), you can now get a discount when you spend £50+ you’ll get 25% off! Just enter the discount code FIFTYQUIDPLUS at checkout. Includes books, t-shirts and digital items!
(T&Cs: Offer works on direct purchases from the UK, not available on US and Canada domestic delivery which is handled by our distributors).
Patreon Hangout
On Saturday 15th July, we’ll have one of our Patreon Hangouts, a Zoom call between myself, some of the team and our patrons will be there to chat, answer questions and connect. The talk will likely be around the new title The Book of Acts which has started production but won’t be Kickstarted until next year. To get the inside scoop, see pages before anyone else and join us at the hangout, become a patron today:
The Gathering
We had a great time at the Gathering in June despite nearly melting in the sun. I did some sword training and we saw dozens of men make a first-time commitment or recommitment to Christ on the weekend. Welcome those that joined the newsletter at the event.
Blogs
I wrote a couple of blogs on the research I’ve been doing recently, I showed the top one to Dr. Mark Woolmer (our history consultant and history lecturer) and he said he’d have given me a First for the essay if it had been submitted in his class which made me happy
In this blog, I explore the question of whether the Golden Calf of Exodus was likely a statue of an Apis Bull?
https://www.wordforwordbiblecomic.com/blog/was-the-golden-calf-an-apis-bull
In this blog, I ask if Moses was tall.
https://www.wordforwordbiblecomic.com/blog/wasmosestall
Kickstarter Update
The creation of the Song of Songs is complete and the digital copies will be sent out to you very soon. They've had their first round of proofreading and corrections are being added. Once the second round of proofreading is complete will be sending it out, before the end of this month.
They'll also be heading to the printers in the next month or so in good time for delivery to backers by the end of November (or before). They will be released in shops in March 2024.
Prayer
Books in libraries: As you saw above our book was featured at the ALA con. Please pray with us that libraries really discover the benefits of the Word for Word Bible Comic and decide to stock them all across the USA. Spanish editions: We have some potential leads to getting distribution of our Spanish editions in Latin America and Europe. Please pray we can get these books into the hands of Spanish speakers very soon!
Technical issue: We have had some trouble with the ISBN registration on Amazon and other places for the new books. Some progress has been made since last time but please pray this is miraculously sorted out very soon so it does not hamper sales.

How to Write a Perfect SOP for Your Study Abroad Application
The Statement of Purpose (SOP) is one of the most critical documents for your study abroad application. It is your chance to showcase your personality, aspirations, and how the program aligns with your career goals. A well-written SOP can make your application stand out and convince universities to offer you admission.
At Triospace Overseas, the best study abroad consultants in Hyderabad, we guide students in crafting impactful SOPs for universities in Australia, the USA, the UK, Germany, and more. We also assist with exam preparation, accommodation, and other essential services to make your study abroad journey successful.
What is an SOP?
An SOP is a personal essay that explains:
Who you are as a student and professional.
Why you want to study a specific course.
Why you chose a particular university and country.
Your future goals and how the program will help you achieve them.
Why is the SOP Important?
The SOP allows admissions committees to understand your motivations, academic background, and future aspirations. A compelling SOP helps you stand out among thousands of applicants and demonstrates your commitment to the program.
Steps to Write the Perfect SOP
1. Understand the Requirements
Before you begin writing, carefully read the university’s SOP guidelines. Some institutions may provide specific prompts, word limits, or formatting rules. Adhere to these instructions to ensure your SOP meets their expectations.
2. Start with a Strong Introduction
Your introduction should grab the reader’s attention. Begin with a personal story, a thought-provoking quote, or an achievement that relates to your chosen field. For example:
“Growing up, I was fascinated by the power of technology to solve real-world problems. This passion inspired me to pursue computer science, and today, I aspire to contribute to the field by advancing AI technologies.”
3. Highlight Your Academic and Professional Background
Briefly outline your educational qualifications and professional experiences. Emphasize achievements that are relevant to your chosen course. Be concise but specific. For instance:
“During my undergraduate studies in business management, I developed strong analytical skills and leadership abilities. My internship at XYZ Company allowed me to apply these skills to real-world scenarios, where I successfully led a team to complete a market analysis project.”
4. Explain Your Reasons for Choosing the Course
Clearly state why you are interested in the specific course and how it aligns with your career aspirations. Avoid generic statements and focus on how the program’s curriculum meets your academic and professional needs.
5. Justify Your Choice of University and Country
Highlight the unique features of the university and the country that influenced your decision. For example:
The university’s faculty, research opportunities, or facilities.
The country’s education system, cultural diversity, or industry exposure.
6. Discuss Your Future Goals
Outline your short-term and long-term goals and explain how the course will help you achieve them. For instance:
Short-term goal: Securing a position as a data analyst.
Long-term goal: Establishing your own data-driven consultancy.
7. Conclude with Impact
End your SOP on a confident and optimistic note. Reaffirm your commitment to the program and your enthusiasm for contributing to the university community.
Dos and Don’ts of SOP Writing
Dos
Use clear and concise language.
Be authentic and honest.
Proofread for grammar and spelling errors.
Tailor your SOP for each university.
Don’ts
Copy templates or samples word-for-word.
Use clichés like “I always dreamed of studying abroad.”
Exceed the word limit.

How to Make Your Scholarship Application Stand Out: Insider Tips from Admission Experts
Competition when applying for scholarships makes it quite hard, and if they are considered highly competitive, once you have a good and effective application, you surely will stand out from many. A good and effective application will make one come out successful in achieving money for education as one gets to be different and remembered. No matter if it is an academic scholarship or an extracurricular scholarship you are applying for, putting together a winning application really makes all the difference in securing financial aid. For the following pages, we are sharing tips from admissions experts on how to put together a scholarship application that is sure to stand out for review committees for US universities for MS.
First Things First: Start with a Powerful Personal Statement
Your personal statement is the heart of your application. It's your opportunity to tell who you are, what you have done, and where you are going. Be specific about how the scholarship will help you achieve your educational and career objectives. Avoid using clichés. Highlight specific experiences showing how your strengths have grown while showing that you have confronted those weaknesses and overcome them, hence making you the right candidate. According to admission experts, being authentic and thoughtful is the best way to do this. It's that authenticity that can help impact the review committee, most profoundly if you're targeting one of the top scholarships to pay your way through cheap universities for masters in usa or some of the best universities for masters in the USA.
Emphasize What Makes You Unique and Unique
Scholarship committees desire applicants who can bring in something unique. Other than that, your academic achievements, leadership, or community service may also help indicate what makes you special. Remember to include experiences showing good qualities, such as leadership, impact, or perseverance. Do not attempt to list every activity that has ever been done, but focus on those activities most closely related to the scholarship or your field of interest, including MS in it the USA or similar fields. Give it some context using measurable results. For example, if you earned academic awards or volunteered hundreds of hours, then use that to add a little bit of depth to your achievements.
Here is how to do that:
Specific: Instead of just saying volunteered, say you led or contributed to a particular project, and what you accomplished using it.
Quantify it: Use numbers to give an idea about the impact, such as hours volunteering or awards won.
Leadership roles: Let your application show leadership roles played even in school clubs, community projects, or sports teams.
Impact: What efforts did you make on other people's lives or yours?
Organize Your Application Well and Complete All Fields
A neat application displays professionalism and pays attention to detail. Remember that admissions officers tend to look at disorganized and incomplete applications as if they're quickly put aside. By the deadline, you will submit all your documents attached to the application and will follow all instructions. Do your materials neatly, with clear and concise wording of essays and a personal statement, and proofread for errors in grammar or awkward phrases. This is more so in the event that you seek master's scholarship programs in the USA, especially top MS programs for studying in the USA with aggressive competition. Apply each as uniquely different. End. Avoid using an identical personal statement and essay for various scholarships. Determine the core values, mission, and selection criteria of each scholarship organization and craft differently. For instance, relevant skills or experience in US-based MS in IT programs are pinpointed. A level of personalization like that shows you have researched and that you are genuinely interested and have an increased chance of going to the next round.
Conclusion
In putting a scholarship application together, an individual needs to show enough effort and organization coupled with the ability to comprehend what scholarship committees are searching for. Write a strong statement of your unique strengths. Carefully prepare your application so that each submission is a little different from the last. For additional help or tailored guidance in preparing to apply for a scholarship, applybuddy.co can get you professional help on the way to the best MS study in USAor master's universities in the United States.

I don’t mean this literally because I don’t want to subject students to this, but I think that a lot of the people who think like this might learn something from actually working with students who struggle with essay-writing according to the standards and philosophy of Academe.
it’s very evident to me that a lot of these students care about the course material and have good ideas, but aren’t great at strangling them into what’s considered the ‘correct’ order because, again, this is a highly specific skill that needs to be specifically taught and that many of them were not taught in high school (often due to, yes, economic barriers caused by the poverty of the school districts they grew up in).
I have seen highly motivated students struggle not to fail out of a course, specifically on the basis of their essay-writing, effectively for being working-class and Black. one young woman told me her professor had repeatedly told her to spend more time proofreading her essays—frustrated, she told me “I thought I had spent a lot of time proofreading this one. I can’t see what’s wrong with it.” I looked at the essay and all of the “errors” in it were just AAE.
I worked with a first-gen immigrant who ended up dropping several of her classes in the social sciences because she struggled so much with writing essays according to the philosophy of USA academia and couldn’t catch up to the new way of thinking about her relationship to the material she was responding to in time to, you know, not fail the course, even as she reached out to the professor multiple times for help & sought out help from the university’s essay-writing help programme.
“x highly specific form of essay-writing is considered both inherent to ‘good’ writing and necessary to receive accreditation needed to apply to certain jobs even if those jobs don’t actually require writing in this highly specific way, and this is a situation that ought to be materially analysed (i.e. as an intentionally placed and enforced ‘access barrier’)” is a much deeper-reaching point with more implications than this relatively shallow one of “actually, putting in effort and ‘good’ essay-writing are not deterministically linked”—and the worship of “effort” is its own whole thing that this addition doesn’t touch on—
but I think there is something here about how people who don’t understand how highly specific the idea of “essay-writing” is as it’s understood in these institutions (again, probably because they’re never been taught any other way, never struggled to play catch-up in this regard, and have never worked with anyone struggling to play catch-up) are just being incredibly uncreative about what “good writing” can be, what being “interested” in a subject can look like, &c.
and again, it’s because they refuse to interrogate whether the specific economic agenda that academia as an institution has (which this user does acknowledge) might perhaps meaningfully influence its ideological agendas and course structure, and will just dismiss anyone who does as though they’re being self-evidently ridiculous rather than actually bothering to argue against them (again, appeal to “common sense”)
[ID: a tumblr post containing a screenshot. Text in the screenshot reads “lol @ academics on twitter dotcom once again handwringing over students using chatgpt to write essays. don’t work for the enforcement of access barriers institution and then get mad when people try to elide or mitigate the access barriers, hope this helps.” The OP of the post adds this commentary to their screenshot: “I think the access barrier is the borderline incomprehensible amount of money you need to pay them to let you matriculate (this was about america). not the fact that you’re expected to be interested in the course once there.” end ID]
some people are so allergic to questioning anything they consider to be “common sense” it’s pathetic. worshipping meritocracy and the supposedly automatically edifying qualities of “effort” and suffering while also proclaiming oneself to be some flavour of progressive. sheesh
also I know this isn’t the point but it never stops being fascinating to me that so many people with this “you need to learn to Be Literate In The Correct Ways, Which Is An Easy Thing That Anyone Can Easily Do” sort of attitude (the elision between “think in the incredibly specific way and write in the highly specific way required to complete an essay that adheres to this particular school of thought about what essays should be like” and “be interested in the course” is telling here) are also, like... not great at reading comprehension imo.
it was super clear, even just in this ungenerous cropping of a longer point, that the original post was (among other things) criticising academia as a whole for being intended to institute access barriers to accumulating wealth, prestige &c. such that skills the university considers necessary (& performance within the limits afforded by university disability ‘accommodations,’ which are a joke) are considered automatically necessary, unquestionable, unimpeachable &c. as though the academy and its conception of “literary” are natural and inherent facts of life, rather than representing a particular interpretation of which “skills” are needed and how those skills are evaluated based on what the institution of academia is intended to do, economically / politically / socially, within a given society (cf earlier discussions on my blog about the material circumstances under which the field of literary studies arises)
which is simply basic materialist analysis. but most people in the notes were again too busy being outraged at the people trying to “game” this already highly rigged system to be able to comprehend a criticism of the highly rigged nature of said system
