I like this piece so much, it sums up perfectly everything that I loved about Aşk Mantık İntikam up until the last few scenes of episode 10, when the story changed from beautifully layered and complex to your usual romcom dizi craziness, when the mains make baseless assumptions about the other and do. not. communicate to save their lives (and I'm sorry, but Ozan asking another woman to marry him, based on a conversation between Esra and Zeynep he partially overheard and totally misinterpreted, is absolutely bonkers and makes me lose all the sympathy I had for him - no wonder Esra chose to divorce him the first time considering that he never freaking listens to her).
This only solidifies my perception of romcom dizi writers being absolutely unable to write a solid story from the beginning to the end. The only notable exception to this was Her Yerde Sen, which was consistently solid and an overall joy to watch.

#hes so cruel and stupid i just cant #how could you not notice your wife working two jobs and being pregnant #she was pregnant for 3 weeks #three fucking weeks #and he didn't notice when she had a miscarriage ffs #i really hope they didnt show his full reaction #otherwise my almost non-existing respect for him goes into the red #esra love just leave #dont do this to yourself #she shouldve hit him harder
@OP: you're so right for these tags, lmao.
I was fully on Esra's side back when the writing of the show was still solid (aka before the last minutes of episode 10), but even with the unbelievable writing shenanigans that plagued the show afterwards, I could still understand and connect with Esra more than I ever did with Ozan.
The nerve of him in this scene is unbelievable. "Why didn't you answer my calls, Esra?" gee, idk, dude, do you think it's because you went and married another woman right after she shared with you the biggest trauma of her life that you were too blind to see while you were together?
And the fact that she actually attempts to leave, to put some distance between them, and he doesn't allow her to! Ugh.

Esra has loved, and has lost, and the glass is finally full.
Alternate take on the Esra/Ozan scene in 1x13. Title inspired by Suede's B-side "Another No One", which perfectly encapsulates Esra's state of mind in this scene. AO3 link here.
Author note: arrives into the fandom years later with Starbucks Yeah, so I'm here to tell you all about how Esra is a queen who did not deserve all the shit she took, and how Ozan needed very badly to grow up. I am not going to discuss the later episodes (as they were a glorious mess), but the early ones? Yeah, this author is fully on Esra's side.
Esra wants to be angry when Pınar tells her Ozan is expecting her with the file for the meeting, but she cannot even summon enough energy to be angry. It's a familiar feeling; she felt it years before, when her baby died, and her husband was nowhere, and she was left standing all by herself in the middle of devastation.
She knows she should feel something. Pain, because he said things would be different this time. Anger, because they weren't, and he opened a wound she thought she had managed to close. Humiliation, because he promised her a future, and then gifted that future to someone else. Desperation, because he's lost to her forever now. But she feels nothing. She can't.
With empty eyes, and an even emptier heart, she marches along the corridor towards his office. She knocks, she enters, eyes down, mumbling, "Here is the file you have requested", and it's this that scares Ozan more than anything, because he expected anger, he expected her to fight, and this is not a fight.
This is the look of someone who has given up.
"Esra," he says, and then repeats, louder, because she has turned to leave like she hasn't even heard him, "Esra, wait."
She stops in her tracks, but does not turn towards him. What good would it do anyway? What can he possibly tell her to sweeten the hit, to erase from her mind the image of the wedding ring on his finger, of the moment he took Çağla's hand in his?
"Esra, I called you so many times."
"You did," she says, still without looking at him. "Was it work related? If that is the case, I am sorry I did not answer, but you could have emailed, you know."
"Esra, please look at me."
She can hear the utter desperation in his voice, but even that does not manage to wake any feelings in her. She's numb.
"I don't have to look at you," she says, and her words have a finality Ozan doesn't like one bit.
Her voice is calm. Gentle, even. It scares him.
"I really don't," she continues. "I know exactly what you want to tell me. It's like I told you that day, in your apartment, isn't it? You're regretting it, just like I said. You're regretting it, and it's too late."
"Esra," he says, and the fear grows, because she still does not look at him, and she's with him, but so far away at the same time, completely out of reach, just like that evening, just like when she threw him out of her house and her heart, and not this again, I can't go through this again. "Esra, I'm begging you. Look at me."
"Oh well," she answers. "Whatever. It's all the same anyway."
And she does turn, and looks at him, but it's like she looks through him, it's like she's not really there. It's the emptiness in her eyes that undoes him.
"Esra, you need to know. Please, you need to know. My marriage is not real, I married Çağla in order to not put her in a difficult position. She knows, she understands this, we will separate. Esra, you have to know I love only you. Please, say something."
She smiles. It doesn't reach her eyes.
"But that's the problem, Ozan, don't you see?" she asks. "Wasn't that always the problem between us? The way you constantly prioritised other things, other people, over my well-being? The way you took me for granted over and over again? Wasn't that exactly what separated us the last time?"
He tries to say something, but the words are dying on his lips, drowned by fear.
not again not again not again
but it's different this time, because she's not silent, she is talking, and it's like she's saying goodbye
"You know, I thought a lot about everything," she continues. "About everything that happened. I'm sorry I did not tell you about-"
She pauses, closes her eyes, a brief flicker of hurt on her face, and his heart breaks in a million pieces, because now he knows, he knows.
"I'm sorry," she goes on, before he can say anything. "But then I kept thinking. Wasn't everything else enough? The way I worked in shifts to support us both? The way I just endured everything - your mother's constant criticism, the fact that we couldn't afford to pay the utilities, you name it - and I stood by your side even though you did not see me? Did I really have to go through this extra tragedy for you to open your eyes and understand how difficult it was for me?"
"Esra, I didn't know-"
"And then I got it," she goes on, without paying attention to his interruption. "It was not enough, and it will never be enough, because no matter what, no matter what I do, you will never understand me. It doesn't work. The first time, I tried to reach out to you the only way I knew how, and you did not understand anything. This time, I poured my heart out in front of you, and you still did not understand. You went ahead and chose someone else. And no," she says, raising a hand when he tries to cut in, "it doesn't matter what's the nature of your relationship. What matters is that you chose her over me. In order for her to keep her dignity, you robbed me of mine. And you know, I really can't do it anymore. I can't. It's over. I'm done. I have nothing left to give you."
Tears are running down his cheeks, and she would cry with him, if she would have any tears left, any feelings at all.
But she has nothing. There's nothing left, except the crushing finality of it all, the end of a small love she once thought so big.
