boynextdoor with a fashionable s/o āŠ¹ą¹‹ą£ā‘
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
members: bnd legal line x gender neutral reader
genre & tags:Ā fluff, established relationship
wc:Ā 1.9k
a/n:Ā as someone who adores dressing up, i just thought this was something i eventually had to write! i've slowly been building my closet these past few months, looking for thrifted clothes and jewelry i can add to my rotation! it's been fulfilling and i get a lot of energy from the outfits i wear (āˆ©ĖƒoĖ‚āˆ©)ā™”
šŸŽšŸ“šŸŠšŸ‹šŸšŸšŸ«šŸ‡
įƓā˜… sunghoĀ
šŸ€ what style does he prefer? šŸ€
i personally think sungho is attracted to people who wear more feminine styles of clothing. he just enjoys how pretty and delicate everything looks! he also likes someone with a cozy styleā€”basically anything soft and huggable. the closest style i can think of would be coquette! think oversized cardigans, knit sweaters, pleated or tiered skirts, ribbons, mary janes, and cute hats (*į“—ĶˆĖ¬į“—Ķˆ)ā‹†š™šā‚ŠĖšāŠ¹ā™”
šŸ¬ shopping with his s/o šŸ¬
sungho would definitely be an enthusiastic partner if you asked him to accompany you to shop. he looks at each item with an careful eye, assessing the itemā€™s quality in comparison to the price point. i also believe sungho has your wardrobe memorized, so if you show him something similar to what you already have, heā€™ll point that out so you can look for something else. plus heā€™ll be a big help calculating costs when youā€™re shopping on a budget! heā€™s definitely your voice of reason if you feel indecisive, listing down the pros and cons of each piece. and heā€™d definitely hold you back if you wanted to buy items out of your budget ( Ė¶Ā°ć…Ā°) !!
šŸ§ couple items and coordinating outfits šŸ§
sungho would def be shy about couple items that are too obvious, so heā€™d settle for matching necklaces/bracelets with subtle, delicate designs. sungho also tries to match your energy for the dayā€”if youā€™re going for something lowkey, heā€™ll do the same, and when you put more effort into your outfit for the day heā€™ll dress up more! but he'll make sure to never outshine you... he wants everyone to see how pretty you are and focus their attention on you.
šŸŽšŸ“šŸŠšŸ‹šŸšŸšŸ«šŸ‡
įƓā˜… riwooĀ
šŸ€ what style does he prefer? šŸ€
riwoo would most likely be attracted to someone who has a quirky and interesting style. the closest style i can think of would be that of 90s harajuku streetwear (think fruits magazine!). heā€™d like someone who has a strong sense of personal style and someone whoā€™s knowledgeable about clothing materials. plus someone who knows how to layer and experiments/is willing to take risks! i can imagine him thinking someone with colored hair, bright makeup, and who accessorizes is cool (āˆ©ĖƒoĖ‚āˆ©)ā™”Ā
šŸ¬ shopping with his s/o šŸ¬
as the most fashionable member in bnd, riwoo would definitely possess a more critical eye when it comes to shopping with you. youā€™d have dates where you spend all day browsing clothing shops, especially thrift or vintage stores! riwoo makes sure to point out unique pieces or items with good silhouettes. he also thinks about layering and helps you pick items that go well together with your existing closet. he definitely considers durability as a priorityā€”if the piece looks too flimsy, itā€™s not going home with you.
and if thereā€™s something you really, really want but is out of your budget, heā€™d most likely buy it for you behind your back, then quietly gifts it to you before the day ends. (āøāøįµ•į“—įµ•āøāø) he would buy items youā€™re both interested in, mostly accessories and outerwear, so you can share them!
šŸ§ couple items and coordinating outfits šŸ§
rather than owning couple items, riwoo and you would borrow from each other's closets! you share accessories like scarves, necklaces, rings, hats, brooches, belts, and even glasses, as well as jackets or layering pieces like vests or button downs. at the rate you nab items from each other, you practically have a shared closet. as for coordinating outfits, riwoo thinks itā€™s a fun challenge to match your outfits based on materials and patterns! your outfits wonā€™t look similar, but theyā€™ll look like they come from the same collection. i'm sure you and riwoo have a highly popular, shared instagram where you post your looksā€”you'd definitely be considered a "power couple"!
šŸŽšŸ“šŸŠšŸ‹šŸšŸšŸ«šŸ‡
įƓā˜… jaehyunĀ
šŸ€ what style does he prefer? šŸ€
i feel like jaehyun wouldnā€™t have any specific preference as to style, but i think heā€™d still like a well-dressed s/o! jaehyun would be fine with anything casual and comfortableā€”clothing that come to mind include cropped tees or button downs, baggy jeans, oversized varsity jackets, and chunky sneakers! but if youā€™d prefer something more feminine or dressy, heā€™ll be your #1 hype man ą“¦ąµą“¦ą“æ(įµ”į—œįµ”) he thinks you look pretty in anything you wear because youā€™re you!
šŸ¬ shopping with his s/o šŸ¬
jaehyun definitely likes to wander around, but he tries his best to stay Focused when youā€™re out shopping with him! heā€™s honest about whether something looks good on you or not. sometimes it results to petty arguments when youā€™re very insistent about buying a certain item he doesnā€™t likeā€¦ but heā€™ll cave in when you give him your absolutely convincing puppy eyes ą«® ā—• ļ»Œ ā—• įƒ. itā€™ll be very obvious if he likes somethingā€”when you come out from the dressing room in a great outfit, heā€™ll look like heā€™s just seen his spouse in wedding attire for the first time, jaw drop and all į°”į©šą«® į“–ļ»Œį“–įƒ. heā€™ll be so full of praise for you it gets a bit embarrassing when there are others in the fitting room area!
šŸ§ couple items and coordinating outfits šŸ§
i strongly believe jaehyun is a sucker for obvious couple outfits or itemsā€”he wants everyone to know you belong to each other!!! ą«® 惻ļ»Œćƒ»įƒįƓį”£š© heā€™d definitely love matching jackets or hoodies, something thatā€™ll be comfortable for the both of you! but heā€™ll also want to have matching necklaces for sure, something to remind you both of each other when youā€™re apart ā‚ŠĖšāŠ¹ā™” similarly, jaehyun loves coordinating your outfits for special dates! like sungho, heā€™ll match your vibe for the dayā€”if youā€™re going for a comfy look, heā€™ll follow suit; if you want to spend your day in baggy streetwear, heā€™ll do the same.
šŸŽšŸ“šŸŠšŸ‹šŸšŸšŸ«šŸ‡
įƓā˜… taesanĀ
šŸ€ what style does he prefer? šŸ€
taesan would prefer someone with an opposite style from him, so heā€™d find a feminine style appealing and interesting! your style could be goth, alt, coquette, or even none of thoseā€”honestly, it doesnā€™t really matter to him. he thinks skirts are very pretty though, whether they be mini skirts with stockings, patterned midi skirts, or flowy maxi skirts.
taesan also likes how your nails are so perfect and meticulously done and considers getting his own nails painted. plus, heā€™s amazed at how youā€™re a master at your makeup routine and the amount of effort you put into it, so he watches makeup tutorials in his own time to surprise you by replicating your makeup routine on you (āˆ©ĖƒoĖ‚āˆ©)ā™” he would also love taking fit pictures with you with a digicam, and heā€™d love snapping pictures of you as you pose along the street.
šŸ¬ shopping with his s/o šŸ¬
taesan loves shopping with his s/o. itā€™s a time for him to observe his s/oā€™s preferences and what makes your face light up. when you see an item that makes you gasp in delight, he tries hard to hide a smile at your enthused reaction and silently takes note. he's pretty fashionable, so heā€™ll be reliable when you ask him for fashion advice! when you shop together, taesan will be honest about what suits you and what doesnā€™t. when you hold up an item that doesnā€™t look that nice, heā€™ll have that pensive look on his face if heā€™s not into it. heā€™ll help you look for alternatives when an item you want isnā€™t in stock. taesan also offers you tips on how to layer jewelry!
taesan is also the type to see an item he thinks would suit you and buy it for you. he ends up accumulating so much that it fills an entire boxā€”when you ask him what heā€™s bought you so many clothes for, he turns red and shyly tells you how they reminded him of youā€¦ which makes you flustered and sooo happy (Ė¶ įµ” Ģ« įµ” Ė¶) ā™”
šŸ§ couple items and coordinating outfits šŸ§
taesan would secretly adore matching items. you bring it up in passing but are too nervous to directly initiate anythingā€¦ (恄>/////<)ā™” he's initially shy at the thought of it, but when he does his own research, he grows attached to the idea of having matching items with you, someone he dearly cares for. so one day, he gifts you with matching earrings while shyly mentioning heā€™d love to wear them together! from then on, you'd have fun looking for matching jewelry together.
like riwoo, heā€™d love to coordinate outfits based on materials and patterns. in particular, heā€™d love to coordinate a mix of knit, denim, leather, or plaid, typically in neutral/dark colors like off-white, gray, black, or dark red. still, the outfits wouldnā€™t look exactly the same and would leave room for you to experiment with your individual styles!Ā
šŸŽšŸ“šŸŠšŸ‹šŸšŸšŸ«šŸ‡
įƓā˜… leehanĀ
šŸ€ what style does he prefer? šŸ€
i think leehan has no particular preference when it comes to fashion, anything goes really! heā€™s very supportive and content to see how happy you are with the clothes you wear. he wouldnā€™t mind anyone with a different style from him. at the very least, heā€™d want you to be comfortable and warm in your outfit. he brings bandaids, safety pins, and a little sewing kit around with him in case any accidents happenā€”heā€™d definitely trade his sneakers for yours if your feet start hurting in your shoes ą«® - ļ»Œ ā€¢ įƒ Ā leehan saves every fit pic you send him and uses them as his wallpaper, and he'd take candid pics of you too and swoon at how cute and pretty and cool you are in your outfit.
šŸ¬ shopping with his s/o šŸ¬
while heā€™s not particular about his s/oā€™s fashion, heā€™d want to be there while his s/o shops or chooses what outfit to wear for the day. leehan loves quality time with his s/o! but donā€™t rely on him for fashion advice or expect it to be a productive time; he thinks you look pretty in everything and will let you know. heā€™s so sincere about it too that you canā€™t even get mad at him.
but one thing leehan will be insistent about is you wearing fish or marine-themed clothing. š“† š“†Ÿ š“†ž he makes you fit the most atrocious fish-patterned polo that looks like something your granddad would wear and thinks you look hot. he sees this cap that goes ā€œfish love me, women fear meā€ and full-on begs you to buy it. and you know what? you doā€”because how can you refuse the pleading of a pretty boy like leehan? (慅Ā“ Ė˜ `) he's just happy to see you dressed up in something he has an interest in.
šŸ§ couple items and coordinating outfits šŸ§
leehan would definitely buy you matching alien plush keychains to attach to your bags or belt loops šŸ‘½ā‹†ļ½”Ā°āœ© heā€™d feel giddy looking at your matching charms and how cute they look on youā€¦ itā€™s like you bring a part of him everywhere you go šŸ›ø and i stand by thisā€”leehan would definitely have custom shirts printed for the both of you that say ā€œi love fish and my s/oā€. deep inside youā€™re embarrassed at how the design looks like itā€™s been shoddily done on microsoft powerpoint, but when leehan proudly admits he made it himself, you just shut up and wear itā€¦ anything for him i guess (ą¹‘>Ų‚ā€¢Ģ€ą¹‘)
something iā€™ve also observed is how in the bnd content online, leehan wears long sleeves almost all the time! so rather than have coordinating outfits, leehan would lend you his outerwear. heā€™s a man with a planā€”but is veeeery sneaky about it. he accidentally ā€œforgetsā€ his sweaters at your place. he also lends you his jacket with the excuse of ā€œadding layersā€ to your outfit (something he learned from you!!!). and somehow, his clothes make their way into your closetā€”youā€™re highly puzzled, but youā€™re not complaining (ā€ā› ֊ ā›ā€ž)ā™”

Happy Birthday 2 Klaus Mikaelson x Pinkie Pie! Reader
Challenge Masterlist -> Here
Type: Oneshot
Summary: Itā€™s your birthday. A day for celebrations and cake. Only itā€™s the people you least expect that make your day.
Warnings: Angst, Fluff
Tumblr media
You experienced a birthday most days. Being the main party planner in town it was the most common event you planned for.
Youā€™d seen and planned for all types of birthdays. Elegant ones, unique ones, extravagant ones. All types that people thought they wanted. But not you.
Being a party planner had lead you to have a different perspective on birthdays. You felt like a butcher who had seen how the sausage was made. Birthdays were your sausage. Youā€™d seen all that went into them. The cake, the presents, the adoring friends and family, the singing of ā€˜Happy Birthdayā€™.
It all went into the list for making a successful to many people. Over the years however, you had to make your own exceptions to this so called successful list.
Despite knowing everyone in town, you were always very much taken for granted. No one ever remembered your birthday. Nevermind get your a present or card or cake.
Your own family were often too busy to celebrate your birthday with you. Your parents both having busy lives and your many relatives lived too far away to see you on the day.
So youā€™d grown accustomed to changing your birthday list.
The cake - you made yourself. Maybe it was down to your perfectionist ways but you knew no one could make a cake as well as you. So you made your own. Often small and simple.
Presents - If you were feeling really down youā€™d wrap somethings you knew would make you smile. Either new or old. Then open them and pretend they were from others.
Adoring friends and family - Youā€™d take your celebration somewhere public but peaceful. So you felt less alone as you opened presents wrapped by you and ate a cake made by you.
Singing of happy birthday - sometimes youā€™d sing to yourself or just say the words or go through them silently. Without fail youā€™d blow a candle out each year. No matter who was around.
While feeling sorry for yourself in the park you didnā€™t expect anyone to bother you, especially not Klaus Mikaelson.
A man who over the course of the past couple of months youā€™d conversed with plenty and even spent time with him recreationally. He was a great guy aside from all the murder and sometimes misconstrued ambition.
Youā€™d definitely pulled away on the days leading up to your birthday. You didnā€™t want to risk anyone making a fuss or causing your new friend to feel bad about your birthday. You just wanted to get through the day quietly. Feeling sad then moving on.
In a way it was the one day a year you ever purposely let yourself feel sad. The rest of the days you were the embodiment of sunshine. Bringing light to others.
While sitting near the lake on a worn out picnic table that was shaded and hidden away by trees, Klaus approached you. Your table was set out neatly. Cake placed in the centre, candles a top. Your presents lay unopened in a birthday bag.
ā€œHello, Love. Starting the birthday celebrations alone? When does everyone else get here?ā€ He asked you, taking a seat at the other side of the picnic table.
His smile was infectious, melting your bad mood away. ā€œHow did you know about that Klaus? Itā€™s not public knowledge.ā€ You teased.
Klaus grinned, ā€œLetā€™s just say a little birdy told me.ā€
You hummed, ā€œMore like multiple little birdies that have been compelled.ā€
He faked offence as he smiled. ā€œDo you think so low of me?ā€
Your face conveyed that it wasnā€™t something he was above doing. Knowing heā€™d done much more in the past than just compel people.
ā€œWell Iā€™ll have you know it was Rebekah who told me. She seems to think it strange there isnā€™t a parade for your today, with all the birthdays you help celebrate.ā€ He tells you, raising an eyebrow in question.
Your lips tighten slightly as you remember why the day makes you so sad. ā€œOver many birthdays Iā€™ve come to find this date slips peopleā€™s mind. I donā€™t think itā€™s all that important. So I celebrate quietly.ā€
His face contorts into one of disbelief, ā€œSo no oneā€™s coming?ā€ His ability to put pieces together so quickly shouldnā€™t shock you. Heā€™s a highly intelligent original vampire.
You shake your head, ā€œNow while I appreciate your company I turn my birthday into a pity party and I donā€™t think itā€™s a sight youā€™d like to see.ā€
His face remains unchanged, still displeased and in disbelief. He looks as if heā€™s thinking of his next words carefully.
ā€œIā€™ve seen things worse than a pity party. Continue as if I wasnā€™t here.ā€
So you do. You carefully tear the paper on the first present. Not needing to look shocked when you know what it is. Itā€™s your childhood teddy bear. One youā€™ve had for years and years. One that still lives on your best to this day. For the last week it had been missing of course. Instead it was incased in pretty pink paper with a sticky bow attached.
ā€œWhat might this be love?ā€ Klaus asks. Breaking the daze youā€™ve put yourself in looking at the present.
ā€œThis is my childhood teddy bear. Iā€™ve had it for so long. I donā€™t care what you think of me but it still sits on my bed. I wrapped it earlier this week so Iā€™d have something to open.ā€ You explain, not making eye contact.
His face clearly shows he pityā€™s you. ā€œI warned you this was a pity party Klaus. Feel free to leave anytime. I wonā€™t be offended. You can see me tomorrow, I promise Iā€™ll be happier then.ā€
He shakes his head, ā€œI want to see what other presents youā€™ve got.ā€
You fall into a pattern of opening your pre-wrapped presents, spending time appreciating them, then explaining to Klaus why youā€™ve wrapped that item or in some cases bought it.
When youā€™ve finished youā€™ve unwrapped the following things; your teddy bear, a new candle with your favourite scent, your favourite movie, a bag of your favourite chocolate, your favourite movie and a gift voucher to your favourite shop.
ā€œWhat do you do next?ā€ He asked. Throughout heā€™s been polite enough to hide any further pity in his face. Yet you could still see it in his eyes.
ā€œIā€™ve got a candles to blow out and a wish to make. Then Iā€™ve got cake to eat and then I think thats all Iā€™ll do.ā€ You tell him. Packing your presents back into your bag.
He hums for the umpteenth time in your conversation. ā€œHow about we chance those plans? Just for today?ā€ He asks.
You contemplate it. You like your routine. Itā€™s safe, familiar. But this one day, this one chance to spend it differently. Potentially with someone who has both remembered your birthday and wants to spend it with you, voluntarily.
You smile and nod, taking the Mikaelsons hand and following him to whatever he has planned.
Thatā€™s how you find yourself on Klaus Mikaelsons bed. Your favourite candle burning, your favourite movie on his wall mounted flat screen, your favourite chocolates in the space between your bodies. You were cuddled close to Klaus. Your teddy lay on his chest, trapped by your forearm.
ā€œKlausā€
ā€œYes love.ā€
ā€œThank you.ā€
He stays silent.
ā€œThis has got to have been the best birthday Iā€™ve ever had. So thank you.ā€
He moves his arm to hold you closer. ā€œWhile Iā€™m happy to make you happy, I just donā€™t think this is good enough. I promise you Iā€™ll make your next birthday spectacular.ā€
His promise causes you to stop for a few moments in shock. When that fades you feel your eyes wet with tears. They run down your face and on to Klausā€™ t shirt.
ā€œOh Love. No more tears on your birthday. Not while Iā€™m here.ā€

š™Ÿš™Ŗš™Øš™© š™Øš™¤š™¢š™š š™£š™¤š™©š™šš™Ø.
ā€¢ we want to express our gratitude to all of you for making this past weekendā€™s event such a success. we work hard to create unique, out-of-the-box events that challenge us creatively. while some might find non-kayfabe boring over time, i believe that with such creative people around who are eager to explore new ideas, we can keep pushing the envelope and crafting experiences that inspire and engage everyone.
weā€™re proud to be a plot-driven, writing-focused group that values inclusion, creating a space where all writers can grow, explore, and connect. iā€™ve never encountered so many wrestling characters with such well-developed and authentic lore. itā€™s exciting to see that so many of you write for the same unique characters we might never think to combine, highlighting the diversity and creativity with our muns. weā€™re very lucky you all continue to call us home.
ā€¢ as we saw last week, we were approached through gossip to stir up some drama and support a plot. we want to emphasize that weā€™d LOVE to keep doing that. it can be challenging to keep gossip engaging, especially when thereā€™s not a lot happening. even then, it can feel repetitive and sometimes unfair to certain characters. with that in mind, weā€™d love to start a weekly or bi-weekly round-up of drama, like a write-up or newsletter, to keep things fresh and exciting! a lot more ā€œoverheardā€ drama, just simple stuff that canā€™t warrant a whole post, but can be interesting tidbits to keep plots going. watch out for @mayhemtea for sign up posts and whatnot for that.
ā€¢ the next couple of monthsā€”november (which is less than two weeks away, what!) and decemberā€”are always busy for everyone. as a result, we wonā€™t have as many events as usual. typically, we aim for two big events along with a few mini writing events, but going forward, weā€™ll focus more on round robin-style activities. these are easier to plan during the week, rather than setting aside weekends. weā€™ll also incorporate some team-building activities to match the holiday spirit. however, we will still host one monthly gathering!
december 21st is the first official day of winter and you know what that means: mayhem games... will be making its resurgence in january. a winner MUST be crowned! new team captains, but still the same rivalry.
ā€¢ we want to assure you that, even with the busy season approaching, removals will continue as usual until closer to the holidays. while weā€™ve been more lenient recently, weā€™ll be putting more effort into addressing rolehogging. our goal is to create excitement about writing and being active in the group, rather than just focusing on individual ships. anyone who has connected with us knows weā€™re approachable and understanding, and weā€™re always here to helpā€”as long as thereā€™s open communication. if you need a hiatus or some time away, please donā€™t hesitate to reach out!
we believe our four-day limit is manageable, as interacting counts as activity, and weā€™re not requiring constant writing. just a reminder that musings and photo posts wonā€™t count toward activity.
ā€¢ october 31st isla dawn is hosting our first member lead event and she has posted the signup sheet HERE. weā€™re VERY excited and canā€™t wait to see how it turns out! that being said, we ask all of you to sign up by commenting on her post, reaching out to her or dming us and we will send all names over. we have gotten the few of you who have sent us already and we plan to send those over asap!

REVIEWS OF THE WEEK!
Books Iā€™ve read so far in 2023!
Friend me on Goodreads here to follow my more up to date reading journey for the year!
___
28. Marked by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast--āļøāļøāļøāļø
Re-Read in February 2023: Sometimes I have the weird urge to re-read some past books I've enjoyed. I think in this instance I wanted to remember the mood of this one since the setting is so comfortable (a boarding school setting has always been a kryptonite trope for me). I read this during the heart of my reading slump, so sometimes something familiar helps. I didn't think this was groundbreaking, but it's a fun read. I'm still weirded out by that scene in the hallway near the beginning. I was also reminded of the influence this book had on so many other YA paranormal novels of the time. I never finished this series and I don't know if I ever will, but I will probably end up re-reading this again some day in the future.
____
29. Princess in Training by Meg Cabot--āļøāļø
I read this one a couple of months ago and I'm not going to lie, I had to look back on what this one was about. This was the book in the series where the topic of sex was introduced. Not only does Mia need to have a s0lid talk about sex and what it could entail, but Michael also needs to have that talk with a professional. I had the ick at the beginning of this series over the fact that Michael was eighteen when he started dating a fourteen year-old Mia, but the ick increased when he low-key started pressuring Mia into having sex with him. "I won't wait around forever" and then her having to bargain with him about re-exploring the topic two months (or whatever) later. "There's only so many cold showers a guy can take." Yeah, Michael. Sounds like a YOU problem. A little worrisome that this, back then or even now, could be a teen or middle grade's first encounter with sex and the expectations that couples could have regarding sex. Mia's age was evident in this one and her naĆÆvetĆ© is very loud. I think this book also helps to take the mystique away from Michael being this incredible and aware boyfriend, especially because of that age gap. Also, still extremely dislike Lilly at this point.
____
30. This Winter by Alice Oseman--āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø
I love this couple so much that it makes me goopy. This novella was such a touching read that I think should serve to remind others of the complicated relationships we might have with our parents, and the pressures we sometimes feel to live up to the expectations of others. I think this was also a great exploration of the complexities of mental health, especially how we both see ourselves and how we perceive our families see us. I also loved the level of support that Nick and Charlie give each other. They're just so wholesome and I want nothing but the best for them.
____
31.Ā Katzenjammer by Francesca Zappia--āļøāļøāļø
Writing these reviews weeks after having read the books isn't great for my memory, but I remember this one being very unique and horrifying. There was a lot of emotion in here, especially as the mystery is slowly solved and the twist creeps up on us. The magical realism of the story took me a while to get used to, but there was a reason behind it all and when it starts to make sense, that's when the reader's heart starts to break.
____
32. Party Princess by Meg Cabot--āļøāļø
I don't know if I'm jaded because I'm writing these reviews so much later after reading the books, but I remember this one feeling...pointless? Perhaps the main good thing about this is that we get introduced to a character who will challenge the Mia and Michael relationship. I think Mia, at this point, needed a moment to just grow as a character. She is very young and it shows in her actions, worries, and decisions. And again, Lilly is still a bitch.
___
33. Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines--āļøāļøāļøāļø
Re-read in 2023:
This is just a traditional re-read at this point. I don't know what it is about this chaotic and problematic series that I love so much. But I am absolute trash for this couple. Every time I read it, it's like I'm experiencing it all for the first time--including the moments that make me want to cry. Love, love, love. It also needs to be noted that this is my go-to when I am in a massive reading slump, which I am still trying to recover from currently (writing this review in April 2023.)
___
Have you read any of these books? Let me know your thoughts!
___
I went through a weird time the last few months, which including a reading and blogging slump. Will hopefully return to posting my reviews and posts!
___
Happy reading!

šŸ–‹ļø Tigerā€™s Review; Bully
Tumblr media
This has been 5 years and 4 months in the making and I donā€™t even know what to say about that lmao Iā€™m so bad at starting things and taking eight lifetimes to finish them. In my defense, I get obsessed with stuff and focus only on that for a while but then I move on for a while (in this case 5 years pft.) I thank the Bingo, Kaleidoscope and Casual A-Z challenges for giving me the motivation needed to FINALLY finish this game.
Bully is one of those classic games that can easily withstand the test of time. Itā€™s such a good game with a damn good story and pretty cool characters. The main character has that little brother feel to me and I had that feeling throughout my playthrough.
Tumblr media
I wanted him to succeed so I tried my best. And by ā€œtried my bestā€ I mean I failed a shit ton of times. Which brings me to my first complaint. When you fail a mission, thereā€™s no option to retry, it just kicks you out and you have to run ALL the way back to the NPC that gave you that quest. This is super annoying, especially if youā€™re like me and fail a lot. I ended up giving up a few times because I got tired of having to run back and do everything over lol This is pretty understandable given the gameā€™s age, though.
Another really weird thing for me is the button layout. Like, instead of O being the back button, itā€™s triangle. The amount of times I sat there pressing the O button repeatedly wondering why the feck nothing was happening lol And to pause the game, you press the touch pad instead of options. L2 and R2 cycle through your weapons/items, while you aim with L1 and shoot with R1. That kept messing me up on Mass Effect because I was pressing the wrong button (but I did learn the Mako has boost so itā€™s not all bad.)
I didnā€™t learn this until I was literally on the LAST chapter of the game, but you have to press the left side of the touch pad to get the map up. As someone who gets lost easily, this would have been really helpful lol
Tumblr media
The trophies are all pretty simple, at least for the PS4 version. I didnā€™t really have any trouble with any except for ā€œSharp Dressed Man.ā€ Iā€™m not really one to buy clothes in games unless itā€™s my own character, like GTA, so I only have a couple pieces bought.
Between running around trying to make enough money and trying to FIND all the clothes, I think this is the trophy I spent the most time on. I was so confused because I bought out all the clothing stores, the school shop and the fair but still hadnā€™t reached 250. I read that the barber shop sells clothes, but I went to two and they had none so I didnā€™t bother checking the third. Turns out, 3rd time really is the charm lol
Tumblr media
One thing I really love about this game is the fact that, when the game ends, it doesnā€™t actually end. It lets you run around and continue whatever you missed so you donā€™t have to play through the game again to collect trophies. The fact that this game, old as it is, had the thought to do this while new games donā€™t is honestly incredible. They do make you sit through the credits first, though. No amount of button pushing can skip ā€™em.
I suggest getting the flower trophy out of the way before finishing art class. You CAN flirt with guys, but thereā€™s only like 2 or 3 that you can flirt with while you can flirt with ANY girl. I wish they had put a bit more into the NPC studentsā€¦ thereā€™s only a couple unique students in each clique before they just copy and pasted them a bunch of times. It was kind of offputtingā€¦ and creepy.
Maybe itā€™s just me, but the kiss trophy was painful. Itā€™s so cringey watching them makeout and I had to look away, itā€™s just uncomfortable lol And the thing with Zoeā€¦ it was so weird because he had literally met her TWO TIMES and then they were talking about love. Is that normal for fifteen year olds? Am I just old?
Speaking of romance, hereā€™s a hot take: Johnny Vincent deserves better! The whole game, I kept wishing he would just break up with that cheating [redacted]. Why did he keep taking her back? She claimed to love him but as soon as he turned around, she was making out with another guy. Not just one, either, she was with basically the whole ass school okay.
Tumblr media
My man deserves better. Period.
Speaking of characters, whats-his-face nerd leader was creepy and annoying as hell. I thought he was cute at first but after seeing how he behaves, he became uglier every time he was on screen lol Derby is cute but I want to punch him sometimes. He reminds me of Atobe from Prince of Tennis in a way. Russel is the man and he is a precious idiot, okay.
The gym teacher was also a creep and I hate him. Like I said before, Jimmy is great and I view him as a baby brother. Must protect. Finally, I felt bad for Pete. Heā€™s such a good kid but everyone treats him like dirt, even Jimmy ā€“ I would smack him for this if I could. Honestly, I think heā€™s the only sane person in this whole damn town.
I almost forgot to mention Dual Nebula. This trophy requires you to beat the high score in three different arcade games. The sumo one is the easiest, in my opinion, it only took me two or three tries. The one with the squirrel flinging nuts is second. I died a bunch of times but most of that was because I was trying to glitch it, having ZERO faith that I could do it on my own. The glitch didnā€™t work and I made it! Finally, the hardest one is the monkey one. It took me sooo many tries to get this one because you canā€™t jump over the spiders, you just gotta wedge yourself in the corner and hope for the best.
Tumblr media
It was fun, but itā€™s time to say goodbye, Bullworth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Iā€™ve covered everything I wanted to about this game. Itā€™s a really great game and I highly recommend checking it out. I didnā€™t do a playthrough of this game, but I do have some clips posted and a bunch more waiting to be posted. You can check out my playlist here.
I started this game on September 5th, 2017. I completed this game on January 14th, 2023.
My rating: ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜…ā˜† (4.5)
Honestly, I wish I hadnā€™t done the clothes one last. Just look at the damn platinum screenshot, itā€™s terrible Ć²_Ć³) I shouldā€™ve waited on the last quest for Kleptomaniacā€¦ oh well. Nothing I can do now.

crosshairs fic idea: reader is gossiping with coworkers (maybe medics idk) about who the most attractive clone is and reader mentions crosshair and he somehow finds out and teases her
Teasing // Crosshair x reader
Tumblr media
ā€œItā€™s definitely Captain Rex. ā€ Tula, a Rodian nurse from the 212th, stated decidedly. You giggled into the shitty GAR rationed caf.
ā€œThatā€™s just cause your into blondes.ā€ You teased, content with the rounds of chuckles at the mess hall table as Tulaā€™s teal cheeks blushed blue.
ā€œI still donā€™t know why weā€™re having this conversation, theyā€™re clones, they all look the same! Thats like the whole thing.ā€ Rys groaned uncomfortably, the only man at the table of civilian enlistments. It was rare for some many of your friends to be in the same place at the same time- but medical staff and engineering alike, every six months after your first deployment civilian enlistments were shipped back to Coruscant for a week long training refresher.
ā€œYou canā€™t say that, itā€™s rude!ā€ Tula slapped his arm, eyebrow ridges furrowing over her galaxy eyes. He held his hands up in surrender.
ā€œYeah Rys, we wonā€™t assume youā€™re any less straight if you admit that Wolffe is clearly the most attractive.ā€ Raina grinned, her peach colored lekku twitching at the thought of the commander. You considered the idea but shook your head as other names got thrown around.
Kix, Fives, Bly, Keeli, Cody, and a couple other names you didnā€™t quite recognize the names of were tossed around the table. Haircuts, scars, tattoos, personality all became deciding factors as you at your dinner, occasionally chiming in to tease your friends.
ā€œOk then, who do you think the hottest soldier is?ā€ An engineer from some outer moon data post asked after you teased her for her choice- Tup, a younger soldier in the 501st that you hadnā€™t met since your transfer to Clone Force 99.
You held your hands up, ready to evade the question. But Raina interjected, a challenging look on her face. Youā€™d gone through academy with the peachy colored twi-lek and her sharp tongue was almost faster than her flying. You knew that look, and it didnā€™t bode well.
ā€œIf you donā€™t answer, Iā€™ll tell every trooper I see all week that you said it was them.ā€ She threatened with a smirk that said she already knew she had won. The smirk grew to a grin when you let out a defeated sigh.
ā€œWell, in my own personal opinion, that Crosshair is the most attractive man we work with.ā€ You admitted quietly. An honest answer on your part, you did think he was attractive even if youā€™d never say it to his face. Immediately, several pairs of disbelieving eyes landed on you.
ā€œWhat? He doesnā€™t even count!ā€ Rys pointed an finger at you to emphasize his point, ā€œhe doesnā€™t even look like the other clones!ā€
You shrugged as Tula slapped the back of his head again, her voice scolding as she hissed, ā€œYou canā€™t say that either!ā€
Then she looked at you, ā€œReally though? Heā€™s meaner than a burned gundark.ā€
ā€œHeā€™s scary.ā€ Raina nodded.
ā€œHeā€™s an ass.ā€ Another one of the 212th enlistments echoed from down the table. Youā€™d forgotten that a few of the units they were assigned to probably had worked with Clone Force 99 at some point. Nevertheless, suddenly, you felt a need to defend the sniper who had finally become what youā€™d consider a friend.
ā€œOk, so it takes a while to get to know him, but...ā€ you started, thinking of all the amazing qualities no one else saw because they werenā€™t with him all the time, ā€œheā€™s loyal to a fault, really funny, always pulls me out of sticky situations and usually manages to keep me out of them to begin with, once you get to know him and how he is, you see how much he cares about his-ā€œ
ā€œOk, sure,ā€ Raina cut you off, clearly not believing the cold eyed sniper could care about anything or anyone. She paused to pitch her voice up, flutter her eyelashes, and clasp her hands beside her face like a cartoon princess, ā€œwe donā€™t know him like you do~ā€
She interrupted herself with a snicker before she continued in her normal voice, ā€œand all that bantha crap, but this is about attractiveness. What makes him hot? And donā€™t give me any of this, personality is all I look at shit.ā€
ā€œAnd if I tell you, youā€™ll leave me alone?ā€ You asked, though it was more of a demand. Tula nodded, she had always been a little boy crazy, and was dying to hear the scoop. You sighed again, hoping your cheeks werenā€™t too flushed, ā€œfine, Heā€™s very unique looking, in all the best ways. Heā€™s very tall and lean, but crazy built. Iā€™m into the silver hair, and believe it or not, under the armor that man has the best ass youā€™ll ever see.ā€
Tula was leaning on the table, giggling wildly at the juicier bits of you description. Raina had leaned back in her seat, and rolled her eyes, ā€œTo each their own, I suppose.ā€
Fortunately for you, the conversation switched to complaining about to the soldiers that were in charge of your training. There was a rumor the Fox used ā€œcivilian trainingā€ as punishment for his men when they earned a reprimand. It made sense, all the Coruscant guardsmen that were tasked with running drills with you werenā€™t exactly thrilled to be there. As if any of you were either.
ā€œYeah, I definitely donā€™t understand that attitude. We get it, you donā€™t want to be here, neither do we, but we are so letā€™s just get it over with- with out the..... are you even listening?ā€ You were in the middle of your tangent when it was clear none of your group was listening to you. Instead there were all staring over your head with varying looks of slight fear, curiosity, and overall disdain. Tula was the one who attempted to subtly point behind you. At first you feared it was one of the troopers in charge of your training, so you quickly turned around with a forced apologetic look on your face.
To your surprise, you found Crosshair. Helmet free, as usual he had a toothpick between his teeth as he gave your group an appraising sweep. He had the same look on his face that he did when he was sizing up ā€˜the regsā€™- until he got to you. It took a year for him to stop looking at you that way, but his slight sneer eased out to neutral-which when it came to the sniper, it might as well have been an ear to ear grin.
ā€œCrosshair! What are you doing here?ā€ You asked, turning around in your seat. In addition to his sudden appearance, just his president was slightly confusing. Typically, Hunter would come himself, or send Tech- all to avoid a potential fight. Your training mates looked slightly bewildered at the amicable exchange.
ā€œSpringing you. Weā€™ve got an assignment.ā€ He shrugged after plucking the toothpick from between his lips. Like a true creature of habit, he started twirling the stick between his fingers. You quirked an eyebrow motioning to the other civilians.
ā€œYou canā€™t ā€˜spring meā€™, itā€™s GAR regulation for me to do this training refresher.ā€ You reminded him, he rolled his eyes- but you werenā€™t sure if his disdain was for your use of air quotes or just disdain for GAR regulation in general. With any member of the Bad Batch, it was usually general disrespect for the rules. You gave him a look before continuing, ā€œI still have three more days.ā€
ā€œIs it really training? You could run circles around anyone here, especially them.ā€ He drawled as he nodded his head over his shoulders at the table of red painted troopers who were eyeing him in distrust. Your eyes went a little wide, was that a compliment? And then you ducked your head at the offended glares of your table. In an effort to prevent a fight, you stood quickly before letting him lead you off.
ā€œTheyā€™re arenā€™t gonna let me leave, Crosshair.ā€ You reminded him, looking up to meet his eyes. He smirked a bit, setting his eyes forward.
ā€œHow are they gonna stop us?ā€ He challenged, dropping his smile to glare at a passing trooper.
ā€œWell, ion cannons come to mind.ā€ You mused before clearing your throat, ā€œYou guys could always go with me, you went on plenty of missions before you got stuck with me. It be like the good ole days.ā€
He didnā€™t laugh at your joking tone, but shook his head, ā€œYouā€™re one of us, you stay with usā€
You were stunned to silence for a second, despite your friendship heā€™s never referred you you as ā€˜one of themā€™. Heat rose to your cheeks as you exited the corridor into a lift, so Crosshair diffused the tension.
ā€œMission takes precedence over regulations. When have we been know to follow the rules, anyways.ā€ He mused, swiping his ID card so the lift would let you out in the hangar. He relaxed a bit when you snorted a laugh before he continued on, ā€œBesides, how can pull you out of sticky situation if youā€™re on a different planet?ā€
You froze in your spot, stomach dropping and cheeks flaring with red hot embarrassment; you had forgotten the cardinal rule of working with Crosshair.
If you didnā€™t have eyes on Crosshair, Crosshair definitely had eyes on you. And in this case, apparently ears as well.
ā€œOk, look-ā€œ you started, hoping to ease your embarrassment, but all of the excuses you could come up with fell flat before they made it out of your mouth. Fortunately, the lift door slid open, allowing you to escape before you could further your embarrassment.
Crosshair actually chuckled out loud, long legs easily traipsing past you as he headed towards the Havoc Marauder. Momentarily, he twisted around to walk backwards, pointing his toothpick towards you, ā€œDonā€™t worry, your ass is almost as good as mine.ā€

KYLUX RECS 2020-2021
My Kylux Recs in the last year (Aug, 20 2020 - Aug 20 2021)
SO. MUCH. GOOD. FIC!!! We are really lucky in this fandom to have so much good stuff to read!
Fic is part of the lifeblood of fandom, in my opinion-it shares new ideas and AUs and fleshes out the characters and most of all it inspires and entertains us all and engenders all sorts of feels for the characters-itā€™s part of what keeps us shipping! So a big ā€˜thank youā€™ to all the fic authors out there who work so hard at their craft and are generous enough to share it with all of us!
The following list is by no means comprehensive-there are LOTS and lots more very good fics that have been published in the last year that I havenā€™t read. I just wanted to offer up a few recs from what I know I enjoyed so far! (I also have more than fits on one list to rec-Iā€™ll try and do another list soon!) As always, I rec based on personal taste, and I highly encourage reading all the tags/warnings on any given work to make sure itā€™ll be to your taste! -

Summary:Kylo runs his farm's stall at the Farmer's Market every weekend. He has a new customer, a gorgeous redhead that is curious about the meanings of his bouquets. Kylo doesn't know anything about that, so he makes stuff up to keep the man coming back every week.
My thoughts on the rec: This is the cutest slice of a modern AU kylux-it really nails Kyloā€™s personality as a (slightly awkward) flirt who is trying his best and just really likes the redhead who keeps coming to buy flowers. Just a sweet little fic all ā€˜round!

Summary:Armitage Hux has been going to the same bar every Thursday for the last year, nursing a crush on the gorgeous, unobtainable bartender, Kylo Ren. He finally gets up the courage to ask him out, only to find out he has some unusual competition: the memory of a red-haired boy from Kylo's past, who Kylo swears is the soulmate that got away from him.A fill for this SoftKyluxKinks prompt:Anonymous asked: Benarmie with young Ben (around 11 years old) having a huge crush on Armitage (16). Hux finds it adorable but mostly ignores him because he's a kid. Flash forward a few years when Ben is all grown up and Hux is the one with a huge crush.
My thoughts on the rec: This is another really cute young modern AU! I like the idea that Ren has liked Hux forever, but this deals nicely with the age gap and that Hux really wouldnā€™t notice Ren back until they are both appropriately older. And they make such a cute couple-itā€™s a great progression from just ā€˜heā€™s hotā€™-like, there is a lot more to them than that in the end!

Summary:ā€œWeā€™re off the next two weeks, you know.ā€ā€œYes, I know.ā€ There was emergency construction scheduled to fix cracking asphalt too near a pipe in the center of campus. The buses couldnā€™t run, and that phenomenon was the only thing that ever cancelled classes. Halloween was dead center in the unplanned time off school, and every bar within a fifteen mile radius would be untenable as the students celebrated. Hux was planning on staying home, catching up on grading. He was rather looking forward to an opportunity to reread his favorite novels. They were already stacked by the couch in preparation.ā€œMy family always throws a Halloween party and they got word that I could come this year,ā€ Kylo said, shuffling his feet. He looked almost bashful.ā€œRen, itā€™s midnight,ā€ Hux sighed at his infuriating coworker. ā€œGet to it.ā€ā€œI may have informed my entire family previously that we were dating.ā€
My thoughts on the rec: One of my all-around fav fics from the last yearā€™s worth of my reading material! Itā€™s got the modern AU vibes down pat without losing their personalities or making them too OOC, itā€™s got the fake-dating trope done REALLY well, itā€™s got a wonderful creepy vibe strung delicately throughout for the Halloween haunted setting, itā€™s got plot and make-outs (and more). Canā€™t recommend highly enough!

Summary:They have managed cooperation - efficient cooperation, even - in these past months, which is more than enough. And already nothing short of a miracle for both of them.Still. Ren was a fool to think he could simply run off and keep Hux in the dark.-----When Ren goes missing on a mysterious planet, Hux sets out to find him. He doesn't yet know that he just might find himself.
My thoughts on the rec: This, like all of violetā€™s fic, is HOT! Like, scorching vibes between them! Itā€™ll draw you in and not let you go ā€˜til after the boys are ā€˜doneā€™! And, like all of violetā€™s fics, the character voices and personalities are also impeccable!

Summary:The Rebellion has been crushed, a coup affected, and Supreme Leader Ren and his Grand Marshall Hux have settled into a domestic routine as the joint rulers of the Galaxy. Kylo wants nothing more, now, than to make his relationship with Hux official, but he can't seem to rise to Hux's challenge of a satisfactory proposal.Or, the five times Kylo proposes, and the one time Hux says yes.
My thoughts on the rec: Ahhhhh, the premise in this one is great! Like, I donā€™t wanna spoil the plot reveal at the end, so I canā€™t say too much, but there is a really good reason throughout the thing that this is a Five Times type fic and it works! It works so well and while we spend the fic ā€˜withā€™ Kylo, when we find out what Huxā€™s deal is, it is so satisfying! I Paint My Dreams

Summary:Kylo Ren is struggling to make a name for himself in the art world but as the grandson of the great Anakin Skywalker, a legendary pop artist of the 1950s and 60s, the weight of his famous family and his own expectations is a lot to bear. After heā€™s rejected from a prestigious exhibition because his installations ā€œdonā€™t fit the themeā€, Kylo heads to the pub to drink away his disappointment. Later that night as he stumbles home, heā€™s set upon by some would-be thieves but before they can take whatā€™s left of his money, heā€™s saved by a strange man with unbelievable Medusa-like powers. The ethereally beautiful man, Armitage Hux, is a visitor from Oweynagat and he has a simple proposition for Kylo - room and board in exchange for making all Kyloā€™s artistic dreams come true.Sounds easy - what could possibly go wrong?
My thoughts on the rec: Oh goodness, where to start? The Irish Mythology and Fae aspect of this fic is superbly woven throughout the whole thing and the author makes it work really well! Like, this is such a unique and original take on the kylux pair, I love them, especially Fae!Hux in this! And the plot is solid and you get invested really heavily in how they are gonna wind up-at least I did! Thereā€™s some beautiful language in this-descriptions and dialogue! And I have a soft spot for Artist!Kylo!

Summary:Ben Solo was raised to be a demon hunter, as everyone in his family has been before him. He wanted nothing more than to prove that he was worthy to his family. He lied to them and went on an unauthorized mission to catch and kill an elusive incubus. His search led him to Arkanis University, one of the most prestigious schools in the country. He was sure the mission was going to be easy, before he met the cute freshman Armitage Hux. This meeting would change the fate of both of them.
My thoughts on the rec: Add another really good one to the slightly-creepy-kylux subgenre filled with demons and dark powers! This is a great depiction of Kylo as a very determined demon hunter and Hux as a very unique quarry! I love the tension in parts of this too-well crafted! The Green Ribbon

Summary:When Ben was fifteen he left the Jedi temple and took extreme measures to prevent the shadowy creature that infiltrated his thoughts from dragging him to the dark side. What he did left him with a great deal of chronic pain and removed his most valuable weapon, but Ben got his stubbornness from every side of the family, even the adopted ones, and he was determined to find and kill the creature. Now Senator Amidala of Naboo, Ben uses his position to make the galaxy a less awful place when he can, but being senator also gave him very useful contacts in his search for the creature. When he met Major Hux of the First Order, Ben thought he could get game-changing information out of him, one way or another, but things rarely go Ben's way and it got complicated much faster than Ben had prepared for. It's never a good idea to mix sex and politics, but Ben takes his fun where he can get it.
My thoughts on the rec: I feel like this is a very original take on ā€˜Senator Amidalaā€™ Ben, at least from the stuff Iā€™ve read-many props to the author for such a fleshed out universe, filled with likeable, believable OCs, a wonderful plot, great character motivations and voices, and a take on our main man Ben that pulled me in from the get-go! Heā€™s sorta magnetic (in universe and to the reader)! And the sexual tension and sexy bits are very well done! Iā€™m rooting for Ben and Hux in this, on opposites sides though they may be! Summary: Hux is running away. He meets a tall, dark, and somewhat annoying stranger at the airport.
My thoughts on the rec: Travel writing at its best; also kylux fic at itā€™s best! Young, modern them trying to find their places in the world and finding each other in the process is so cute and almost tenderly done in this! This is a gentle, friendly version of modern Kylo that I fell in love with, right along with Hux! And by the way, Iā€™m not kidding when I say travel writing-the southeast asian setting is vivid and enchanting in itā€™s rich detail! Outnumbered, Outgunned, Outmanuevered, and Winning

Summary: Huxā€™s plans for ridding the First Order of Kylo Ren are ruined when Ren discovers his deception. With no choice but to flee, Hux ends up in the hands of the Resistance. Itā€™s not ideal, but at least he gets a break from Ren. Until he doesnā€™t.When Ren starts appearing in Huxā€™s dreams, Hux wonders if the stress of being a spy has taken more of a toll on his sanity than heā€™d previously thought. And if that wasnā€™t bad enough, he has to deal with constant pestering from Poe and a mildly inconvenient kidnapping. Of course, itā€™s Ren who saves him in the end. Thereā€™s clearly no getting away from him.
My thoughts on the rec: A really interesting take on something that is both a alternate rewrite of what could have happened instead of TROS and a TROS-fix-it of sorts! Hux is stellar in this, we really get a good look in his head and Coriesocks handles it masterfully! I really liked how their relationship develops gradually in this, itā€™s Enemies To Lovers at its best! Bloodlines and Brandy

Summary: Sebastian Hux is a native of the Deep South who loathes his origins, and seeks to pull himself from the stifling quagmire, but his bloodlines call him back to the property that has blessed- and plagued- his family for centuries.Unspoken secrets fill his inheritance, skeletons fill every closet, and a monster lurks in the shadows, tied to two bloodlines joined by fate, greed and hatred that has spanned across generations. As Hux learns about his familyā€™s tainted legacy that has now become his burden, he discovers there is more involved than just having to be the curator of property that the locals shun with hushed whispers, that he has inherited more than an estate- he also has a terrible and loathsome horror tied to his very blood. When curious young locals come calling, and Huxā€™s past tormentors come out of the woodwork to simper and scrabble for a piece of the newly rich, the body count begins to rise, the smell of blood in the old slaughterhouse is getting harder to hide, and Hux realises that he will need to find a better way to pacify the hulking shadow that perches on his roof every night before his hometownā€™s tiny population is completely decimated.
My thoughts on the rec: This one is EPIC! Like, in length (which it needs every word of for the story that is going on here) and in the great portrayal of Kylo and Hux and their relationship! Itā€™s super original too-not just the plot but the depiction of Kylo as something ā€˜otherā€™ and the Southern Gothic vibes, and Hux-this is a wonderful take on Hux! He loses none of his edge, in my opinion and yet the reader is ā€˜withā€™ him all the way through, rooting for him! The descriptions are killer too-EmperorsVornskr has a felicity of expression that kept me reading (albeit in more than one sitting). Also worth noting that this is a wonderful and carefully handled depiction of trans!Hux, in my admittedly cis opinion. The theme of finding your tribe/your people/and your special someone in this, albeit in sometimes unexpected places is warming! I enjoyed every moment of this fic! Gravity Well
kyluxtrashcompactor
https://archiveofourown.org/works/13062495/chapters/29879001
Words: 176,421
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Snoke is gone, but his death has solved nothing between Hux and Kylo Ren. The First Order's trust in their leaders wanes as they vie for power over one another, and if they cannot learn to work together, they may both lose everything they've worked for.Forging that alliance after years at each other's throats will not be as easy as letting the past die, howeverā€”they will face subterfuge, enemies in the shadows, treachery, and being stranded on a hostile planet with creatures out of nightmare, barely escaping constant danger with their lives while having only one another to rely on.And that is just the beginning.
My thoughts on the rec: I realize this one is very well known by now, but Iā€™ll rec it again for good reason! Itā€™s quality long-fic! I love how competent Hux is in this surival-style fic, even without the Force to save him! And Kylo is a badass! kyluxtrashcompactor is a master of the slow burn here and weā€™re even lucky enough to be getting a sequel (although Gravity Well will also stand perfectly on its own). The writing in this will draw you in and not let you go!

Thatā€™s all for now! I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did!Ā Ā

Weak Conflict
There should always be a strong, compelling source of tension between two people who are considered enemies. Even if their rivalry stems from external sources, such as bad blood between families or competing for a number one spot, there should always be a concrete reason why they hate each other.
Not Explaining Forgiveness
When one of these conflicts subsides, or a tense moment resolves, it should be justified. Tension and emotions shouldnā€™t disappear because youā€™re trying to stuff romantic moments in here and there. If one of your characters crosses a line and the other character chooses to forgive them, there needs to be a clear and understandable reason. It doesnā€™t always have to sit well with the reader. Your character can make a blatantly stupid decision, but it needs to serve the plot.Ā
No Tension To Be Found
If your characters have to verbally or physically assault each other to demonstrate the tension between them, youā€™re doing it wrong. If they have to kiss for the reader to see that they like each other, youā€™re doing it wrong. Tension is in the little things. Itā€™s in the instances that most people would overlook, but your characters zero-in on because the subtext is too thick to gloss over. Tension is the most important plot device in enemies-to-lovers stories, so it requires a lot of time and attention to minute details.Ā
Conflict Solved Too Easily
If the rivalry between your characters is one misstep after another, with immediate forgiveness following, the tension wonā€™t build correctly. Youā€™re working your way up to a boiling over moment. A moment where everything comes out and then, once resolved, makes way for the romantic feelings to enter. If the conflicts donā€™t slowly build on each other, that boiling moment will come out of nowhere and be less satisfying to read. Donā€™t let your characters off that easily. Enemies arenā€™t constantly letting things slide.Ā
Characters Changing For One Another
People donā€™t need to be exactly the same to see attractive qualities in one another. Itā€™s true that relationships shift your perspective and that it occasionally results in outward changes in behavior, but one or both characters shouldnā€™t mold their personality around their partner.Ā
Stupid Potion
If one of your characters has to become oblivious or avoid critical thought to maintain a relationship with that character, you havenā€™t made the two characters compatible enough. This is especially true when one or both of your characterā€™s identity revolves around a higher intelligence. They should have enough in common that there doesnā€™t have to be a giant shift in one or both personalities to work as a couple.Ā
The Relationship Brings Them Down
The thing about enemies to lovers stories is that the happy endings are usually an indication of the authorā€™s view of what is and is not forgivable in a potential partner. The acceptance of someoneā€™s past mistakes, current flaws, and future struggles. When a love story ends with a couple that repeatedly lower each other or hurt each other, that sends a bad message, and that is your responsibility to avoid. It doesnā€™t need a happy ending, but it should never have a destructive one.Ā
Writing Abuse Instead of Rivalry
There is a big difference between writing two equals who have a rivalry slowly falling in love and putting aside their differences, and writing an abusive, predatory love interest who repeatedly hurts, manipulates, and gaslights the main character. Just because you can imagine the character forgiving them doesnā€™t mean theyā€™re a good partner. Cheating, physical abuse, isolation, passive aggression, and manipulation are not character flaws. Theyā€™re notĀ ā€œmistakesā€ that the character needs to forgive in order to save their relationship. Itā€™s abuse, and when you write a story between an abuser and a victim that has a happy ending, that has consequences.Ā
Revealing Feelings In A ClichƩ Way
This is very subjective, however, there are also a plethora of tropes to choose from and an infinite amount of alterations you can apply to make them your own. The objective, however, is to build up to it in a way that creates a satisfying payoff, and an interesting moment that serves all of the work youā€™ve done to build to it. Thereā€™s nothing worse than reading chapters and chapters of build up, anticipating a big moment where sparks fly, and then having all of that tension result in a sad sputter of mediocrity.
Instant Trust
Trust is difficult to build between two people, especially when they have a complicated past. Trust is earned, no matter who you are or what youā€™ve been through, itā€™s always a process. Itā€™s never inherent. When two characters have a history of betrayal or hurt, trust is going to be even harder to develop between them, and that process is an opportunity for more tension, character development, conflict, and eventually a satisfying resolution. Trust development is a major plot device, and I recommend you take advantage of it. Itā€™s also a huge opportunity for building romantic tension amongst the angst of trials and tribulations.Ā
Why Do They Hate Each Other, Though?
Thereā€™s a thin line between love and hate, and that line is infatuation; obsession. So, what put the two of them on the bad side of that line? This reason is the main conflict. The overarching plot begins with the point where that rivalry either begins or is challenged after a long while of stagnation, and it ends with the two characters crossing over that line into love. You need to make that beginning point very clear.
Rivalry Shouldnā€™t Just Dissolve
There needs to be a transitionary period that is tense and awkward with scattered moments that make the effort worth it to both of them. There should be aĀ ā€œWell, we hated each other last week and then they did some really sweet things and now Iā€™m not so sure. Maybe weā€™re starting to become friends now? I feel really excited when I see them, so I must not hate them anymore, right?ā€ period.Ā
Complete Opposites
Yes, opposites can attract. Yes, completely different people can fit together very well and have a happy relationship, but this is a clichĆ© and is, in most cases, poorly thought out with little to no originality.Ā
Love With No Reason
Just like your characters need a reason to hate each other, they need a reason to love each other. There has to be something that makes them work. Not just a common hobby or characteristic or exterior aspect they share, but something that makes them fit together. If they love each other because... they can, your reader will feel like theyā€™re watching two stupid, lonely people tolerate each otherā€™s flaws in the interest of sex or companionship for 100 pages.Ā
No Actual Conflict Resolution
Relationships are built through conflict resolution. Communication, empathy, effort, and understanding between two people who work to make each other happy. Hollow forgiveness is not apart of that process, and if thatā€™s all there is, youā€™re not developing a realistic relationship between compatible people, youā€™re depicting a toxic relationship that, in the case of these origins, can be abusive.Ā
Underusing Sexual Tension
Sexual tension is great. Itā€™s easy to develop, it has a satisfying payoff, and it doesnā€™t take up a lot of space on the pages. It doesnā€™t have to result in x-rated material, especially if youā€™re writing for a young adult audience, but itā€™s simple and effective.Ā
No Awkward Transition Period
A large chunk of the plot should be awkward and uncomfortable to watch. The transition should be organic and make sense for your characters, but all organic movement contains struggle. Nobody goes from hating each other to loving each other overnight, and relationships are complicated and require hard work. Show this.
Catalogue Characters
There are enough stories out there with cardboard characters and self-insert protagonists, especially in romance. Make your protagonists unique and individual. Make your characters diverse and interesting to read about. Readers should have a bit of wiggle room for imagination, but that doesnā€™t mean they should be filling in the blanks like your characters are Mad Libs. Donā€™t close your eyes and point at character archetypes to form your cast. Itā€™s obvious and lazy.Ā
Stagnant Tone
The tone of these stories often falls flat because in the interest of building tension, writers ignore purposeful tone shifting, scene-to-scene. Change it up, make it potent, and make a lasting impact during important moments. Suspense and anticipation shouldnā€™t just build during the climax and resolution.Ā
Bad Pacing
When your readers spend hours reading a story that promises a romantic payoff, they expect to see some of it. I think that a three act structure is really effective with this type of arc, with the first third being devoted to building rival tensions, the middle third being the shift from rivals to friends, and the last third building that romantic tension and ending with a happy resolution.Ā

or, as they say at samwell, ā€œpenitus potes.ā€ shitty gives the toast at jack and bittyā€™s wedding.Ā for @zimbitsweddingofficial and day two of zimbits wedding week: the wedding itself!
just for fun, a draft version of the beginning of this fic with lardo, ransom, and holsterā€™sĀ ā€œhelpfulā€ edits can be found via google doc here. hope yā€™all enjoy! <3
Good evening, everyone! On behalf of Jack and Eric, thank you all so much for being here tonight, and welcome to what could very well be the most highly anticipated wedding reception of 2019. I mean, this party was planned by the likes of Suzanne Bittle and Alicia Zimmermann. We are in for a treat, folks.
Before we get to all that, Iā€™d also like to extend a particular welcome to those in attendance who are part of the playing, coaching, and/or office staff of the Providence Falconers. Glad you could all make it this evening; I know this past week was a little bit busy for you guys.
[Insert appropriate pause and gesture to the punch bowl, which on closer inspection is actuallyā€”oh yeahā€”the Stanley Cup the Falcs won three days ago. Hold for inevitable applause, general hysteria, and/or hooting/hollering from Tater.]
For those of you who donā€™t know me, Iā€™ve been trying to decide whether I should introduce myself by my first name, which will inevitably get me mocked by my friends until the end of time, or by my nickname, which will definitely scandalize anyone who has not spent a significant amount of time around twenty-year-old guys who play hockey. However, as I look around the room, Iā€™m realizing that most of you probably either raised, spent significant time around, or were onceĀ a twenty-year-old guy who played hockey. To the rest of you, I am profoundly sorry.
So, hi! Iā€™m Shitty, and Iā€™m Jackā€™s best man.
read more below or on ao3
Being someoneā€™s best man, as Iā€™ve realized over the last few months, should really come with a playbook or an instruction manual or something, because itā€™s a task unlike any other youā€™ll ever take on. In addition to being a friend, you have to be a confidant, an expert at bachelor-party debauchery (I think my college resume definitely prepared me for this part) and someone whoā€™s not afraid to step in to make last-minute decisions so the grooms donā€™t have to. You also have to do all of these things without getting fired from your job or stepping on anyoneā€™s toes, up to and including: the couple getting married, the other people in the wedding party, the groomsā€™ parents, the wedding planner, and most importantly, Moomaw, whose word is law around here.Ā
(Seriously. She made the pie tonight, people. Bow down to her.)
But as much as the role can feel a little bit like youā€™re being thrown in at the deep end, it also definitely comes with its perks. Tonight, I have both the honor and the challenge of somehow summarizing how much I love Jack and Eric in a speech that is heartfelt and witty yetĀ also brief so that we can get to the aforementioned pie as quickly as possible. If youā€™re still following me here, that is a tall orderā€”but here goes nothing!
I met Jack Zimmermann on our first day of freshman year at Samwell, during the bright, hot summer of 2011. I was participating in the time-honored tradition of moving into a dorm on the third floor of a building with no elevator and no air conditioning in the middle of August. It builds character, or so the good folks in Samwell administration probably tell themselves. Anyway, athletes got to move in early for preseason, so I was expecting to be one of the only guys on the floor for at least a couple days. I was just carrying the last box into my room when the door next to mine opened andā€”well, you can probably guess who walked out.
Now, I grew up in Boston, which means I also grew up around hockey culture. Iā€™d heard the news that Jack was coming to Samwell, so I knew who he was when he stepped into the hall in that same vague way that you kind of-sort of recognize celebrities hustling down the street or through the airport with their sunglasses on. And he gave me that same vibeā€”ā€œI know you know who I am, and Iā€™d very much like not to be bothered about it.ā€
Here is something that will not shock you if you know us: Jack was the first friend I made in college. Here is something that might shock you if you know us: That definitely doesnā€™t mean we were friends at first. By his own admission, Jack wasnā€™t at Samwell to make friends at all. He told me, much later, that he was only planning to go to play hockey, get his life back on track, and keep his head down as much as possible.
So in retrospect, maybe it was an unlucky thing for Jack that he ran into the one person who wasnā€™t going to let him do that.
Because no matter who you are or where youā€™re from, freshman year of college breeds a unique kind of terror Iā€™ve never felt anywhere else. Thereā€™s a lot of pressure to completely remake yourself, to become the person you maybe never could have been in your hometown. By coming to Samwell, I wanted to be a different kind of kid than the one that Andover had raised. Jack wanted to be a different kind of kid than the one heā€™d spent twenty years telling himself he had to be. As much as neither of us wanted to admit it, we both wanted similar things out of our college experience, and we needed a support system to do that. And so, however begrudging the two of us were about it at first, we started to bond more and more.
It wasnā€™t always easy. For one thing, my idea of a good time was a lot louder than Jackā€™sā€”who enjoyed such scintillating pursuits as ā€œwatching golfā€ and ā€œgoing to bed at a reasonable hourā€, neither of which were quite in my vocabulary at the ripe old age of eighteen. Also, if itā€™sĀ before six in the morning, he has a hard time remembering to speak English, which used to make for a lot of stilted conversations between the two of us as we walked to early morning practice. (On a completely unrelated note, the first and probably only thing I ever learned in QuĆ©bĆ©cois is how to swear.)
I donā€™t remember the exact tipping point at which Jack and I really became friends; I think it was more of a quiet acknowledgment that we liked having each other around, that we balanced each other out in ways that neither of us initially knew we needed. What I do know is that, slowly but surely, I started to get glimpses of the Jack that exists off the ice. And so began one of the most extraordinary journeys of my life, because the only thing crazier than knowing Jack Zimmermann is actually knowing Jack.
Here are some things that Iā€™ve learned in the process: Heā€™s on his third pair of neon yellow running shoes, which he buys specifically because the color makes him happy. Before either of us tried Ericā€™s pies, the only thing that could make him cheat on a meal plan was a sleeve of Double Stuf Oreos. (Donā€™t ask him how to eat them correctly unless youā€™re interested in a twenty-minute speech on exactly how they have to be pulled apart.) And he loves Captain America, although it is the opinion of this best man that Americaā€™s ass has nothing on his hockey butt. HaveĀ you seen that thing? It has Internet fans in at least two different countries.Ā
But I digress.
In our sophomore year we lived next to each other again, by choice instead of by chance, in what I can only describe as the pinnacle of American college living: the Samwell Menā€™s Hockey Haus. We used to pull the comforter off of one of our beds and climb out onto the roof and clear off the snow so we could share the blanket, look up at the stars, and listen to the bass thumping through the wall of the house next door. On nights when other things felt confusing, this one part of my life was clear.Ā Thereā€™s something about sitting out under the open sky that just makes it easier to talk to a guy, you know?Ā
Some nights the conversations we had were funny. Some nights they were serious. Some nights we said nothing at all, just sat secure in the knowledge that someone cared enough to exist alongside us for a little while. There was always an unspoken agreement between us on nights like these: I got your back. For me, Jackā€™s friendship became a rock, a refuge. Itā€™s something that I came to depend on that year and still do to this day.
As for the content of those late-night conversationsā€”well, some things do have to stay between friends. Iā€™m sure Jack will agree, especially because he has so graciously allowed me to get up here and lovingly roast him just a little bit.
So letā€™s skip ahead again, to yet another August, the start of our junior year, and the arrival on the scene of one Eric Bittle. This kid burst into our ranks like a ray of Southern sunshine and turned pretty much everything upside down in the process. In the first five minutes of being in the Haus, he somehow made us a pie? Folks, I'm not kidding, it was the best thing Iā€™ve ever eaten. We were a bunch of guys who didnā€™t know what we were missing until we had it, and let me tell you, it was one hell of a semester after that. In pretty short order we had curtains on the windows and baked goods on the counters, and Samwell Menā€™s Hockey started to become not only a team but a family.
That was off the ice, at least. On it, things were a little more complicated. As our dear friend and former goalie John Johnson said to me, Jack and Eric hadnā€™t gone through their character development yetā€”whatever that means.Ā
Take our third or fourth practice with the full team that year, for example. It had goneā€¦ uh. Poorly, would be a word.Ā Later that night I heard some rustling on the roof outside, and God knows I was willing to do just about anything but my homeworkā€”so I stuck my head out the window and there was Jack, watching the stars. I asked him if he wanted a buddy, and he said alright, so I slid out and sat down next to him.
That was pretty usual for us at this point. What wasnā€™t usual was the topic of conversation. The first thing Jack said to me was, ā€œBittleā€™s gonna get eaten alive when our schedule starts.ā€ (Remember, people, theyā€™re marriedĀ now!)Ā The second was, ā€œI want to help.ā€
Hereā€™s another thing about Jack: Underneath the veneer is a guy who just cares so intensely itā€™d shock you if you knew nothing else about him. It shocked me a little that day. I think it even shocked him to admit it, to the point where I had to say, ā€œJack, itā€™s not a criminal offense to care about other people. Even if it feels like youā€™re doing it for yourself.ā€
So he helped. He offered an olive branch, and Bits took him up on it. Iā€™d hear the two of them get up in the morning, hours before the rest of us had to be at Faber, for checking practice. None of the rest of us ever knew exactly what went down, but one thing was for sureā€”Eric put in a ton of work to overcome some of the fears that had followed him to college. He got better, and Jack relaxed. The two of them really started working as a team, and things started looking up from there.
The day that they told us they were dating was pretty amazing. Eric is so full of light no matter how bleak a situation may look, but that day he was literally almost glowing. And Iā€™ve seen Jack in moments after victory and loss, at his best and at his worst. But Iā€™ve never seen a Jack who was so happy, possessed of such confidence in a decision heā€™d made, as I saw him that day at brunch. And thatā€™s when I knew this relationship was really special.Ā
From there, many of you know the story. You watched it play out on ESPN and social media and the front pages of every single gossip magazine on the supermarket shelves. But if youā€™re sitting here with us tonight, you also watched it play out between Jack and Eric themselves. Youā€™ve watched them handle expectations as a united front. Youā€™ve watched their unfailing dedication to each other while they navigate the pressure of being some pretty big firsts.Ā You know that, behind the scenes, these are two incredibly genuine people who Ā bring out the best in each other and are dedicated to doing that every single day.
In the last four years, Iā€™ve watched Eric become self-possessed and confident because he was given the space to do so.Ā In the last six years, Iā€™ve watched Jack grow from a kid with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove to a guy who finally believes that he deserves all the good things the world has given him and then some. If you take nothing else away from this speech, I want you to know this: Iā€™m incredibly proud to call myself a friend to both of them.
Jack, Bits, youā€™re always gonna be my brothers, my best friends, and two of the finest damn men Iā€™ve ever had the pleasure to know. I wish you both a long and happy marriage. Take care of each other, be good to each other, and never forget where you startedā€”as a team.
So please join me in raising your glasses, everyone, and as they say at Samwellā€”penitus potes to Jack and Eric!

Out of everyone in the whole world, the person you love most in the world is Nanami Kento, your brother. He was the one who saved you from the cursed spirit that haunted you and took your parentsā€™ lives. He was the one who took you in so that you wouldnā€™t be put in the system since you were still a minor. He made sure every day that you were safe and healthy even if he was injured or exhausted after a fight.
That's why in the weeks nearing his birthday, you made sure that he would have a relaxing time. He said you didnā€™t have to and heā€™d rather have you not fret over him, but that is unacceptable. He needs to have a good birthday. If you could, you would make the whole month just about him. But the last time you tried that he sat you down for a long, scolding lecture about how itā€™s unnecessary. So thatā€™s out of the option.
Right now, just a few days shy of his actual birthday, you have a problem. Because you were buried in work and have a terrible memory.
His present.
You forgot to buy a present.Ā
ā€œI forgot to buy a present! Why am I so dumbā€¦ Why am I like this, Gojou? Itā€™s literally one of the most important things with birthdays and I forgot it. Because Iā€™m an idiot. I wish the ground would swallow me upā€¦ I deserve itā€¦ā€ Thuds reverberate through the room as your head makes contact with the table. Repeatedly. Hard.
Wallowing in self-hate is great but your brain starts spitting out all viable present options.Ā
Shopping for Ken-chan is hard because heā€™s not materialistic in the least. He also doesnā€™t have a lot of hobbies. ā€œI donā€™t need presents.ā€ is a regular phrase every time his birthday or holidays come up, but then he gives presents to you and you end up feeling worse. This is all while your brain is getting thrown around.Ā
A hand comes between your forehead and the desk, gently bringing it up. Gojou has a small pout as his cold fingers try to soothe the burning sensation.Ā
ā€œYou still have a couple of days left! Donā€™t bang your head against the table, your brain doesnā€™t work enough as it is.ā€ He easily moves out away from your slap. But returns in time to stop your head from falling again.
ā€œI should have remembered this weeks ago. Thereā€™s no use trying to make me feel better, Gojou. Iā€™m a terrible sister. I deserve this pain.ā€ His fingers poke against your cheeks and he smooshes and stretches them. Itā€™s uncomfortable but you let him.
ā€œI havenā€™t bought a present either.ā€
ā€œYouā€™ve never given him a present.ā€
ā€œThis is the year to start! I have to get on his good side!ā€ Thatā€™s weird since he never cared about what Ken-chan thought of him.
Ā ā€œWhy?ā€
ā€œWe can shop together!ā€ Classic ignoring. His face comes to level with yours. ā€œLetā€™s go to Shinjuku, Iā€™m sure there are things even Nanami will like. Also, I found a new sweets shop.ā€ You stare at him. ā€œBut I will focus on the present for today! Cā€™mon, I can fly us there. Youā€™ve never flown before, right? I think itā€™ll help.ā€
Tumblr media
For some inexplicable reason, floating in mid-air with nothing to save you other than Gojou is amazing. Adrenaline pumps through your veins at the thought of crashing down to Earth if Gojou lets go. You know he wonā€™t though.Ā
The air is chilly up here and thereā€™s constant wind makes your hair whip everywhere, getting in your mouth and eyes. It doesnā€™t dampen your mood.
Your arms tighten around Gojouā€™s neck, watching the city blink with life way underneath your feet. Well, his feet, since youā€™re bunched up in his embrace.Ā
ā€œThis is so cool! Do you do this every day?ā€
ā€œYup.ā€ He pops the p and slowly walks closer to your destination. The world looks like a childā€™s playhouse.Ā
ā€œNo wonder youā€™re constantly in an amazing mood! I would do this every time Iā€™m feeling down!ā€ Gojouā€™s chuckle reverberates through his chest and into your body.Ā
ā€œI can take you out again when youā€™re sad.ā€ A buzz takes over your body at the thought sparkles come to life in your wide eyes.
ā€œYou would do that for me?ā€ Gojou is an incredibly important asset and therefore also very busy, needing to take care of special-grade curses that others canā€™t while also teaching and looking after his three students. He couldnā€™t be at your beck and call, you canā€™t ask that from him. But the gentle smile he gives is so warm and sure, assuring you that his words are true.
ā€œOf course I would. Any day.ā€ His grip around your body tightens.
Something weird fuzzes in your chest. Itā€™s not uncomfortable or bad butā€¦ unique. And foreign. You got a good report back from your physical evaluation last month so itā€™s not something physical. Questions about what the cause could be takes over your mind but the sudden sensation of zero gravity makes all of them fly out the window. Burying your face into Gojouā€™s neck, you prepare for the worst.
ā€œAnd we have arrived! Mā€™lady.ā€ Chipper as ever, Gojouā€™s feet touch the ground with a light plop and he lets you down gently. You look at him in confusion until realisation kicks in. And you kick him.
ā€œDonā€™t do that! I think my heart stopped!ā€ He cackles at that, finishing with a ā€œWonā€™t do it next time.ā€ If there is a next time. The probability is reduced significantly because of what he just did.Ā
Taking your hand in his, he escorts you down the stairs from the rooftop and into a department store. The people who couldnā€™t see mere moments ago high up in the sky.
As expected, itā€™s loud and crowded. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of people shuffling about and sweeping everyone to move even if they wanted to. Itā€™s fortunate that Gojou has a firm grip on your hand because otherwise youā€™d be completely lost. Still, itā€™s nice to be buried in the commotion of everyday lives. It helps you forget about the whole war thatā€™s looming over everyone.
ā€œAny ideas on what to get?ā€ The question youā€™ve been asking yourself for the past hour or so is echoed by Gojou. ā€œWe have all the time in the world, so donā€™t worry. Iā€™ll keep you company for as long as you want.ā€Ā
Tumblr media
Blisters form on the back of your feet thanks to the amount of times you walked around the huge place. Gojou bought you bandaids even though you said Shouko can fix you up. It hurts a lot less thanks to that. Finding a present is still a challenge. Every time you think you have one, your brain comes up with a rebuttal for why Ken-chan wonā€™t like it. Two hours and nothing to show for it, youā€™re on the verge of collapse. Even a quick snack break didnā€™t help.
Gojou sets you down on a bench, letting your head roll on the backrest. The sight of thousands of coats and jackets running around upside down makes you giggle. Maybe the stress is finally getting to your head. The mantra of ā€œIā€™m a terrible sisterā€ tries to sneak in and wreak havoc. Youā€™re just about to let it when the upside-down brand of a designer clothing shop catches your attention.Ā
ā€œGojou.ā€
ā€œYup?ā€ His head comes into view as he copies your posture. It must look really weird to passersby but you donā€™t care at all. ā€œGot an idea?ā€ You point to the brand. Or at least you think you do. The lack of blood in your brain is making everything dizzy. ā€œClothes?ā€
ā€œI wanna buy him a good suit.ā€ Standing up, swaying a little from the sudden oxygen influx, you try to drag him towards the shop. He tries to make your attempt harder by using his weight and height, but a firm glare makes him concede.
ā€œI thought he said he doesnā€™t want suits.ā€ Oh yeah, you told him that when it was rejected. Ken-chan did say that, years ago, when you bought him one for your first present. While incredibly appreciated, he reasoned that there is a high chance of it being ruined since he has to fight in them. And this was around the time when you started getting paid. It was his way of saying that you should invest it in something more durable and preferably for yourself. How does Gojou remember this when it was just a fleeting complaint that you barely remember?
ā€œHe said itā€™s because thereā€™s no point in spending so much money on something that might be damaged so quickly. But Iā€™m going to buy it for a different reason.ā€
Collections of suits, varied by colour and pattern, line the huge shop. Skimming over a lot of them, especially ones with questionable designs, you turn to the monochromatic area. Simple is best when it comes to Ken-chanā€™s taste. Shuffling through the shades, you contemplate between either beige or blue.
ā€œWhatā€™s the reason?ā€ Gojouā€™s voice calls from the change room. You wonder when he got there.Ā
ā€œFor him to wear it if he goes back to work in an office after the war has ended. Or just when he goes out, without the worry of getting attacked and ruined. Itā€™ll be like a promise! That heā€™ll do his best to survive the war to wear it.ā€Ā
Gojou is silent in response. It drags out and now youā€™re sort of embarrassed about what you said. Your partner loves taking advantage of othersā€™ sappy moments, teasing them mercilessly over it. That little speech is basically perfect ammunition against you. You expect his high voice to make fun of you.
What you donā€™t expect is for him to pat your head, slowly and softly, like he wonā€™t ever get to do it again.
ā€œNanami must have used all his luck when he became your guardian.ā€ Voice low, bringing shivers down your body, he cards his fingers through your hair. Like heā€™s combing them. Seconds tick by and it feels sort of nice, telling you to relax, but your bodyā€™s on high alert for some reason.
ā€œI think heā€™d like the blue one. Since he already has a brown suit, beige is too close.ā€ A black suit adorns his body when he comes into view. Even the shirt is black. It fits him perfectly and he looks really good in it, courtesy of a good body proportion. He could possibly pull off the hideous suits you elected to shy away from at the front of the display. You clear your throat.
ā€œWow, you look really good in that.ā€ His hands smooth down the creases on the jacket, preening at your compliment. ā€œYou should buy that. Wear it to dates or whatever. Ladies will fall to your feet if you show up with that.ā€ Holding up two blue suits, your eyes scrutinize them and you try to imagine which shade will look better on your brother.
ā€œLadies will fall to my feet? Really?ā€ Amusement tinges his words. The left one looks better.
ā€œYeah, probably. Girls love guys in suits. Well at least, I do. If they wear the right one for them, itā€™s really hot. Left one is better, right?ā€ He gives a nod, a wide grin playing on his face. ā€œAlright, this one then. Are you buying the suit?ā€
ā€œYeah. I think itā€™ll be put to good use.ā€
The checkout is quick, and itā€™s night when you step out.Ā
ā€œYou wanna go back by flying? We can try doing the Howl thing.ā€ Thatā€™s really tempting, being able to reenact one of the most iconic scenes in the movie. But not today.Ā
ā€œNo, I prefer being in your arms.ā€ Gojou stares at you with such intensity that you can feel it even with the blindfold. Then he immediately barks out a laugh, one so loud that people nearby flinch at the sudden noise. You flinch at the sudden noise.
ā€œAhā€¦ You really keep me on my toes, you know.ā€ Before you can ask what that means, he takes your hand again and starts walking to the stairs. His steps are faster than usual.

just a dare.
GeorgeĀ ā€˜Jojiā€™ Miller x Female! Reader
Tumblr media
---
Synopsis: He was never one to back down from a dare, but this was a dare that might give George ā€˜Jojiā€™ Miller more than what he bargained for.
---
A/n: So this is probably really different than what you guys are used to, but I wrote this because A: I fucking love Joji and B: i wanted to write this for a friend. The style that I wrote this in is kinda kinda different than what I usually do, but I was freeballing this one ngl so if it sucks: that is 100% why. I donā€™t know how Joji is as a person, so if this doesnā€™t seem like something he would do then lol we die like idiots on this tumblr.

He knew it was wrong to let it go on for this long, but there was a part of him that longed for it to never stop.
George ā€˜Jojiā€™ Miller was a man of many things. He was a musician, a past Youtuber, a performer of many arts, and a friend. He was a son, a student, and sometimes during typical shenanigans with his friends, a character named Filthy Frank.
However, one thing that Joji didnā€™t like to consider himself was a liar.
Joji typically didnā€™t like to lie about things, even if they were small white lies. Sure, heā€™d lie to get out of petty trouble, but to lie to people he didnā€™t even know? Joji didnā€™t consider himself that much of an asshole (even though he did enjoy harassing them at times, especially when he still ran his Filthy Frank channel). However, if there was at least one thing Joji could admit about himself, it was that he never backed out of a dare or challenge, no matter how fucked up it might be (unless it was incredibly illegal, of course.)
Even if it meant fake dating someone and breaking their heart after a certain amount of time.
During a night of drunken shenanigans with his friends Max and Ian, they had engaged in a particular drunk game of Dare or Drink. It was a game of truth or dare, but with a twist, and it was personally a favorite of Jojiā€™s, even if he did end up drunker than a dog before the night was even over. However, during this game, it had given Joji more than what he had bargained for.
ā€œHey, so you know that one girl that helps with the crew during shows? That (Y/n) (L/n) chick? I dare you to ask her out and date her for a couple months.ā€
That was how it started. A stupid and meaningless dare that was supposed to have ended months ago had Joji had the balls to break your heart. However, during his time in ā€˜datingā€™ you, he had found more out about you that he had never known about you before; more that made Joji rethink his choice of breaking you and up with you.
You were one of the crew members that had been hired to help him during his shows and music career, but you did so much more than just help set up the stage and handle the light sequences. You were almost like an assistant manager for his agent, helping with scheduling and setting up interviews and meets, designing merch and handing off the designs to his agent, and other incredibly important things that Joji hadnā€™t even thought about before meeting you.
Even though Joji knew you, he hadnā€™t really bothered to ever actually befriend you and get to know the real you. You were a fleeting image to him; always only glimpses as you hustled about and did your job. It was almost rare that Joji ever actually got to speak one-on-one to you, and that was only ever if his agent was sick and asked you to take over for the day.
From what Joji could see, you were a truly decent person with a unique perspective on things.
So, when Max had dared him to ask you out, Joji had thought it would be pretty fast and easy to do. He didnā€™t truly know you, so why not? As he watched you stare up at the sky, smiling softly as the snow fell and the Tokyo lights reflected off of your skin, Joji found it hard to look away; to even fathom the thought of breaking your heart.
There was a part of him that felt like an asshole for taking on the dare. Truly, Joji shouldnā€™t have taken it onā€¦but there was a part of him that was almost glad that he did. To most people, you were probably considered mediocre, maybe even uninterestingā€¦but to Joji, you were all he ever thought about. You invaded his mind at every waking moment; even invading his dreams when he would actually get some good sleep.
All he ever thought about was you and how much he didnā€™t want to break that soft light that burned within your heart. You were so soft; soā€¦refreshing. Joji was addicted to you and your optimistic, even loving, outlook on life. Joji was sure that he had never met anybody who was so in love with living as you were. Joji could still remember the way you had looked at him when he had asked you out after a show one day when he finally got a real chance to.
He had taken a week to ask you because both you and him were so busy. During that week, Joji had thought about all the ways that the situation could go wrong. You could refuse, and Joji wouldnā€™t have to do the dare, Perhaps you already had a partner and could let him downā€¦or maybe you just didnā€™t want to see anybody? If he was honest about it, it was what Joji had hoped for when he had blurted out the question when he stumbled off of stage, looking so sweaty and flushed from his time in the show.
However, instead of refusing him, you had given him a baffled look before you smiled so fondly at him; as if he had just professed his love to you or somethingā€¦or told you that you looked beautiful, which you definitely had that night.
It was the moment that Joji knew he was fucked. He had taken you out the week after for bubble tea, showing you his favorite flavors while actually getting to know you. After about two months, Joji had figured that it was time to end the relationship.
However, when Joji had prepared himself and walked up to your apartment to break things off, he found his steps growing slower and slower until he was frozen in front of your door. His body wouldnā€™t move, and Joji cursed himself as he shuffled his feet and stalled. It shouldnā€™t have been so hard, but Joji never did knock on your door.
Instead, he had listened to you softly sing to one of his songs, sounding so pretty and soft as you sang alongside him. He had listened until the end of the song before turning and walking away from the door, sending you a sweet goodnight text. He almost hated how the heart emojis on your text back made his heart flutter.
After that, Joji began to notice more of the little things that you did for him that no other significant other had ever done for him before. In the morning, you would always have breakfast ready for him, his favorite breakfast foods usually, sometimes something different to spice things up and give variety.
You would pay so much attention to what he would say to you that if he expressed interest in an item or something that he liked, you would buy it for him as soon as you could, smiling so softly as you would shyly explain to him that you remembered he wanted that thing or stared at it a little too long.
You would remember some of the littlest things about him that he would tell you that most others would have forgotten, you would ask him about his day, give him space when he wouldnā€™t even ask for it, and pay attention to his physical cues, not just the verbal.
It almost baffled Joji how much you enjoyed doing things for him while he didnā€™t invest much into you. In the beginning, Joji hadnā€™t even planned to do much for you because in the beginning, you were temporary. You had been just the result of a drunken dare that Joji was too proud to refuseā€¦until it wasnā€™t; until you became much more than that.
During an innocent night of him sleeping over with you after marathoning Disney movies, your alarm clock had gone off for you to do some late night work for the big boss. Joji, despite having been woken up by the alarm, hadnā€™t moved nor opened his eyes while you shuffled off the bed quietly to get yourself ready.
And then you had leaned over him, kissing his forehead and whispering how he was going to change the world, and Joji had never felt so conflicted in his life. It had honestly given him nightmares.
It was after the third month, after that one night, that Joji began to make more of an effort. He took you out to places that he remembered you mentioning, bought you small gifts, and made sure to listen more attentively rather than passively when you would speak with him about things that didnā€™t pertain to work or himself.
Joji took you more seriously, and though Joji still felt like shit about the fact he hadnā€™t begun to date you because he liked you, there was a part of him that began to feel thankful for such a stupid dare; a part of him that began to grow attached to you.
So, when you smiled over at him, the Tokyo lights lighting up your face in a rainbow of pretty fluorescents and snow falling on your skin, Joji couldnā€™t stop himself from smiling back at you. His heart swelled, loving just how in love with the world you looked. How could he even break your heart? How could he snuff out such a soft and loving light like yours?
ā€œWhatā€™s on your mind, Joj?ā€
Joji swallowed thickly, suddenly nervous, and he wondered if he should tell you. Should he reveal it? Should he say it? Was it too late to? Was it considered too early?
ā€œI love you.ā€
Just like when he had jokingly asked you out, your eyes widened in surprise before that beautiful smile graced your lips. Your warm hand came up to his cheek, cupping his flushed and cold skin before you replied back gently.
ā€œI love you too, J.ā€
And just like that, Joji knew that there was no turning back, and if the man was honest, he was sure that he didnā€™t want to.

And now, that cyberpunk AU Iā€™ve been talking about the past few days...hereā€™s the result from one of my potions for @quirkyseastoneĀ ā€˜sĀ ā€œBrew a Love Potionā€ event!
Characters: Kaku x Reader; cameos by Chopper, Franky, Kalifa (unnamed) and Rob Lucci (also unnamed).
Genre: Cyberpunk, Enemies to Lovers
TW/CW: Violence, guns and swords, cyborgs, partial memory loss
Word Count: ~4.2k words
...
You'd say it was fate, but really, it was no surprise that the Greatest Thief in Water 7 (that being you, of course) would attract the attention of assassins sooner or later.
The first time you met, you were running along rooftops in the world's first and only floating city, and you nearly ran into his sword. Not one of those laser-sabers or poseur chainsaw-blades, but an actual steel sword that tore your sleeve, would've torn your throat if you hadn't pivoted at the last minute.
"You'd best watch where you're going pal," the assassin said, his smile barely creeping past the high collar of his black uniform. His face was almost entirely hidden, save for large eyes and a long, square nose that jutted from his face like the barrel of a gun. "These rooftops get dangerous at night."
"I could say the same to you," was your response. And you shot him. Not the most romantic introduction ever, you admit, but he walked out of it fine. The bullet seemed to bounce off his torso. Bulletproof vest, you thought at first. You didn't get to consider beyond that because he swung a second blade and did a pretty good job of keeping you on your toes.
From this rooftop, you could see the whole city. Water 7, a marvel of engineering, floated over an ocean that seemed to glitter with starlight instead of all the neon signs. You could look across every district, including all the Docks that produced everything from marvelous flights of fancy to dangerous war machines. Down on the streets, market stalls offered every delight imaginable. Paradise for a thief. But sometimes, you needed a challenge, and a target to stick your ire to. You figured which one might've sent an assassin after you.
"Let me guess," you said between breaths and shots. "You're a government goon, aren't ya'? Mad I stole those weapon blueprints from your headquarters last week?"
The assassin had the gall to laugh. "You sure hit the nail on the head! We put a lot of work into acquiring those, and then you go on and walk right out with them. Got the whole place buzzing worse than a hornet's nest." Then he moved faster than any natural human you've ever met, and next thing you knew, the tip of his sword pressed up into your chin. "If you tell me who you sold those blueprints to, I can make a case for sparing your life. For being so darn cooperative and all."
You couldn't help but look into his wide, dark eyes. There was an earnestness in them you'd never seen in anyone else who'd tried to kill you. You also noticed the inner workings, that those weren't human eyes but cybernetic lenses. Ah. That made more sense.
"I didn't sell them. I was hired to snag and burn, and you know what? If I'd known what they were for before I got hired, I would've done the job for free. Did you know what those blueprints were for, or are you the kind of lackey they keep in the dark?"
The cyborg didn't answer right away. His blade lowered ever so slightly.
"I did. That's why we had to secure the blueprints, to make sure no one else makes use of them."
"That's what the previous owners tried to do. Now those blueprints have changed hands twice this month. You really think that if I hadn't destroyed them, some power-hungry idiot wouldn't have eventually grabbed hold of them and actually built the damn thing?" A war machine that could sink all of Water 7 toppling into the sea with a single shot. Nations would bow before it. Not something you'd want in anyone's hands, much less the government.
"Shame to hear you had such good reasons," The assassin said, an honest goodbye. "But orders are orders."
"Indeed they are." And it was time for you to make your escape. You angled your gun up and fired. The assassin was human enough to flinch when a bullet fired at his head, even though you only hit his baseball cap. You ran and flung yourself off the rooftop, using a grappling hook to swing over to the next skyscraper before you could see his reaction.
A small part of you wondered what the assassin's name was. The rest of you, more practical, decided to put that train of thought to rest at the station. No matter how charming an assassin might be, there was no point in wondering about someone who'd tried to kill you.
Next time you two ran into each other, you shot at him again from the opposite end of a mansion hallway.
"You must really hate my hat, huh?" He put his hands up and tried that bright smile on you once more. "Easy there, pal. I'm not here for you."
"Though I'm sure if you offed me as collateral, you'd get a pretty bonus on your paycheck, huh?"
"Depends. What're you after here?"
You debated telling him. Didn't want your goals used against you, but you really didn't have time to chase off an assassin while finishing your job. "Wapol killed my client's adopted father years ago, and hung onto some of the man's personal items as a trophy. I'm stealing them back."
"What a coincidence! I'm here for Mr. Wapol's head. Or at the very least, to threaten him to fall back in line. Someone's been selling supplies to foreign armies, and we'd rather he stop." The assassin slowly walked toward you, hands still up, until the two of you were only a few feet apart. He lowered one hand, offering it to shake. "Tell you what. I'd rather not fight you tonight and risk another hat. So say I deal with Wapol, you get in and grab what you need, and we both pretend we never saw each other. Deal?"
You glared at the offered hand. For all you knew, he could have all manner of weapons built into it. "I don't even know your name. Though I'm sure you know mine, what with being hired to kill me earlier."
"I do." Your name rolled off his tongue in a way that made your traitorous little heart flip in your chest. "And my name's Kaku. That better?"
You wondered if his skin was plastic, or flesh and blood. "You could have a gun built into your palm, or something."
Those camera-lens eyes widen. "You could tell...?"
"I deal with a lot of cyborgs. Some of them don't even try to kill me."
"Aha. Well, you may not believe me, but I try to stay honest, so I mean it when I say I have only one firearm built into me."
You smirked and shook his hand. "If that's a pickup line, you really need practice."
You learned two things that night before parting ways. One, that his hands were warm and calloused, and you felt a steady heartbeat under his skin that no robot could replicate. Two, he was human enough to blush and sputter at your innuendo, giving you enough time to run off into the depths of the mansion.
Wapol's death hit the news the next day. You'd half-expected the crime would be pinned on a break-in, and eventually on you. But no, the death was clean. Made to resemble a suicide. Nothing reported as missing, even the handful of extras you'd taken while Wapol had been distracted. You found yourself pleasantly surprised. Really, the night would've been perfect, if you could get that bastard's blushing face out of your head.
Over the next few months, you two kept ending up at the same places with different goals. The first times were coincidences. The rest were casually coordinated, notes left tucked into the windowsill of your cruddy apartment or texts from what you assumed were burner phones. Coordinates or articles about unique treasures. You once responded back "sounds like a date" and he responded with a flustered emoticon like a teenager from the early 2000's.
Either way, you two made a pretty good team, and no one had to know if he cleared out the security in your way or if you showed him a sneaky shortcut through a building. You finally saw his built-in firearm too; turns out, there was a reason his nose was so long.
And whenever these "accidental" meetings involved staking out the locale first, you'd make small talk. He'd ask about your plans for whatever treasure laid in wait. You decided not to ask him about his murder plans, instead opting for hobbies and whatever an assassin might do outside of work. Found out he liked vehicles of all sorts, especially ships, and that's part of how he'd ended up assigned to Water 7. You once admitted that you were born in Water 7, lived in the slums your whole life.
"I've never even seen a live animal, other than the birds that sometimes fly overhead. Sad, isn't it?"
Kaku perked up at that. "You know there's a zoo here, right? Most of the animals are electronic, but a few are the real deal. You can even feed some!"
"Yeah, but zoos are so expensive. Gotta' pay big bucks for authenticity, you know."
The conversation had drifted off after that. But the next time you got a text, the coordinates and timestamps also included a photo of two tickets.
The practical part of your brain warned you that this could be a trap. Surely, a trained assassin could find plenty of ways to murder someone in the emptier corners of the zoo, and then toss the body into a carnivore's mouth to be disposed of. Yet as was more common of late, you ignored your practical side and snuck off to the zoo like you were off for another big score.
You're sure the two of you stuck out. Sure, he was in more casual clothing (that still concealed most of his body), but the reflexes of a trained killer didn't reflect well in real life. Neither did a thief's. You both jumped at the wrong sounds and gave security a wide berth. There were nerves to you two that didn't settle on the shoulders of the easygoing crowd.
"We should hold hands," you whispered. He gave you a questioning look. "To blend in, right? No one thinks twice if a happy couple acts odd. Love makes people do weird things."
"So...pretend we're weird and in love, hmm?" He interlaced his warm, human fingers with yours. "Should I call you darling, then?"
"If you're that old fashioned, sure." The two ofĀ  you laughed as if you hadn't tried to kill each other only a few months before.
It was strange, seeing animals and being unsure which ones were full of blood and muscles instead of gears and electricity. For someone partially artificial himself, Kaku had a good eye for such things, and pointed each one out. There was a spark in the eyes of living, breathing animals and, an unpredictability to their actions that made them stand out no matter how lifelike their companions seemed.
"What about you?" you asked on a park bench. He'd treated the two of you to popsicles on that warm day, and you watched the giraffes as you talked. "Like, I know you've got a couple cybernetic enhancements, but this..." You shook his hand, still in your own. "This is real."
Kaku glanced around to make sure no one else was watching the two of you instead of the animals. He tore his fingers from yours and for the briefest moment tugged down the collar of his jacket. The letters CP-9 were emblazoned on the side of his neck with laser precision.
"Typical tragic orphan story. Family got into a terrible accident when I was a kid, parents passed, and I was broken up literally and figuratively. Government swooped in and rebuilt me, raised me with a bunch of other orphans to be secret agents. And here we are."
"So...your job is repayment because they saved you?"
"Pretty much. Rebuilding my face alone cost a pretty penny, to say nothing about the rest of me or the years of training. I'm saddled for life." He winked and added, "But I still squirrel away a little bit for myself. Like for this. Being around animals calms my nerves when things get too much. Especially the giraffes. Beauties, aren't they?"
You turned your attention back to the exhibit. They were strange and gangly things, that sort of weird that humans couldn't make up on their own. But they were kinda' cute, galloping around like that. (And if their dark eyes and long lashes reminded you of a certain someone sitting next to you, no one had to know.)
You pointed at one.Ā "That one on the left's been licking the fence for like, fifteen minutes now. Robot?"
"Real. Stranger than fiction, I guess."
He ended up telling you about the giraffes, as if animal facts could bury the bits of backstory the two of you had revealed to each other. He accidentally got popsicle juice on his nose, and flushed the brightest red when you brushed it off. Sometime after that, you took his hand in yours again. You didn't want to part ways when you returned to the gate.
You didn't see him for another month after that.
Funny, how quickly another person could become a staple of your life, and how you came to miss those infrequent texts and adrenaline-fueled meetups. Every job you went on left you peering into shadows as if he'd emerge in his assassin blacks with a smile sharp as his swords. But Kaku was never there.
Despite yourself, you started seeking him out. Texted back every number he'd messaged you from, hoping one burner phone might still be active. Snuck into the zoo and lurked around the giraffe exhibit, hoping he'd show. You even broke into a couple government facilities without any goals beyond finding him. And you knew it was stupid, knew it was dangerous, you barely knew this man and every vulnerability he'd shown you could be part of an elaborate ruse to trap you...but you wantedĀ to believe in him. That whatever had sprouted between you two was as real as your heartbeats syncing when you held hands.
You realized you'd hit paydirt when a new assassin came after you. Even if she hadn't tried to kick your head clean off your neck, you would've recognized her as one of Kaku's coworkers with her black uniform and the tattoo creeping out from under her jacket.
"Things must've gone sour if I've been reassigned," you said. Tried to keep it light as you had with Kaku, even as your mind spun with implications.
"This is entirely your fault, you know." Oh goody, this assassin had a spiked whip, and she got one end wrapped around your foot. "If you hadn't compromised my coworker, if you'd rolled over and died like you should've, we wouldn't be here."
Ah. You'd half-expected that. "Your bosses found out about the date." Your ruse had worked too well. But what else could it have been construed as? You'd even thought of it as a date yourself once he'd disappeared and you'd realized that more than any treasure, you wanted to go back there with him, wanted to go everywhereĀ with him.
"They knew well before that. Did you really think they'd give him camera eyes without reviewing the footage?" The whip tightened around your ankle. "They let it slide for a time because you were useful, and they thought he could still capture you. And he did, but not in the way anyone wanted."
"Where is he?" You tried, and failed, to not sound desperate.
"It's already too late. They decided he was too human, and now he's being rebuilt. There isn't..." and here, she faltered.Ā  Out of fear for her coworker or of such a fate befalling herself, you're not sure. "There isn't anything left of the Kaku you knew. So please, don't go after him. And die while you're at it."
The fight with her was more brutal by far than any of the brawls you'd had with Kaku. She actually scored a few hits on you, and once you finally gave her the slip and made it to one of your hideaways, your ribs and legs ached something fierce. You patched yourself up, and you began to plan.
You'd never stolen a human before. You hoped there was still one left to steal.
Breaking into a secret government laboratory was easier than expected. You built a crew, called in every favor you could, reviewed blueprints until you swore the building's layout had been tattooed on the back of your eyelids. The night of the heist, another crew of saboteurs known for their bombastic fights distracted the security guards, making it seem like they were the true culprits out for revenge.
You alone went underground. In stolen laboratory gear, you entered the cybernetics facility. Your breath fled from your lungs, and it wasn't from the shock of sharp antiseptic clinging to the air.
In a glass pillar full of fluids and wires, Kaku floated. Even from a distance, he looked more plastic and metal, like someone had crafted a lifesize doll replica of him. The monitors showcased diagnostics on a metal skeleton and the integration of circuitry in organs. You touched the cold glass, but he didn't respond.
You got to work. Following instructions you'd reviewed every waking hour, you hacked into the system and initiated the extraction procedure. You already had a gurney for transport, and a prepped lie that you'd be transporting the body of a failed cybernetics integration to be disposed of. The fluids behind the glass slowly drained, wires disconnecting. You held your breath.
Then you crumpled as a bullet hit your side.
You hissed, feeling your side for blood even though you had armor under your disguise. And looked up to see a black uniform, an assassin pointing at you, bullet shaped like a sharp fingernail loading into place.
You gasped,Ā "Don't do this. I'm trying to save him."
"Far as we're concerned, you're stealing classified government property. He's one of our most expensive assets. Second to me, of course." The assassin wore a predator's smile, and the heels of his shoes clicked ominously on the floor as he strode toward you. "It'd be so easy to end this here. It wouldn't be the first time I've made a mess of the lab."
"Yet here you are, chatterbox. I get the feeling you don't wantĀ to kill me."
"How bold. As it happens, I like to play with my prey. But so did Kaku, and he got so wrapped up in the chase that he forgot what to do when he caught you."
"Stop talking about him in past tense like he's dead."
The assassin shrugged. "Isn't he? Not in body, but in spirit. They tore out most of his brain and replaced it with machinery. The process wipes most of one's personality and emotion. There isn't a person in there anymore."
"Then I'll find him again and bring him back. That's what a good thief does." The glass opened up, and Kaku nearly fell out. You stepped forward to grab him. First contact jolted your body; you didn't feel a heartbeat anymore. And when you angled him onto the gurney, his body felt cold and smooth. You glared up at your unwelcome guest, who'd watched the event in silence. "Now, are you going to finish the job, or get out of the way?"
"Unlike a certain someone, I'm not in the business of keeping fools alive."
The assassin's fingers sharpened into claws as he closed the distance between you. He swiped at you with those claws, and you barely dodged the first one while pulling the gurney back with you. Whatever happened, you couldn't let Kaku get hurt in this state. But to your surprise, when the next claw swung, you heard a gunshot that you didn't fire. And whoever fired it knew where this cyborg assassin was still flesh; he fell to his knees, surprised at his own blood.
Smoke rose from the gun built into Kaku's nose as he sat up. Camera eyes opened and refocused with faint clicking noises. For a long, quiet moment, he scanned the room. But then they settled on you.
"Darling."Ā
Your heart flipped in your chest again. "You remember me?"
"Of course. They did their best to wipe everything else, but I couldn't let them take you." He paused, unused to his new body, and the resulting smile looked more like a grimace. But he still said, "I love you."
"I love you too. And I'm going to get you out of here." You grabbed Kaku around the shoulders with one arm and grabbed your gun with another, now that you knew where to shoot your foe. You said to the other assassin, "Well? You were wrong about him."
"Was I?" The assassin lurched back to his feet, one hand over the bullet wound just above his clavicle. "Kaku, how much did you give up in order to keep the memory of one thief you failed to kill?" No answer. "Do you even remember who I am?"
"I made my choice," was all Kaku said. "Now let us go."
The assassin turned away before you could see if there was any hurt had broken across his cold face. "Killing you like this won't be any fun. Once you can be a challenge to me again, I'll come back for you. But for now? See if you can run." His heels clicked against the floor as he walked away. "I'll clear your path out of the facility. You're on your own after that."
Time stretched long as the other assassin left the room. You held tight to Kaku. When you held his hand, it was so smooth that he didn't even have fingerprints anymore. But he still intertwined his fingers in yours and squeezed.
"I'm still me," he whispered. "Even if I don't have a real heart or anything else left."
You forced yourself to shrug and smile. "Just means you're a little closer to some of the giraffes at the zoo." That earned you a quizzical look. "Uhmm...you know, because some of them were robots too?" Still blank. "...Did you even forget about giraffes so you could remember me?"
"Suppose I must have."
You resolved to take him back to the zoo once he'd recovered, bring him back a little of that wonder he'd showed you. But first, time for your masterful escape.
The following weeks were long and painful.
Soon as you broke out and got to one of your safehouses, you called in two last favors. One from Franky, cyborg engineer who'd hired you to retrieve and destroy the blueprints for that war machine that started this whole debacle. The other from Doctor Chopper, who'd been so grateful to have his mentor's things returned. The two of them came in and worked on your assassin-turned-lover tirelessly, fixing up what little flesh remained and making sure all the cybernetics were in-check. There was plenty of work to do, as you'd stolen Kaku before his procedures had been complete, and rewiring muscles and nerves turned out to be a long, painful process.
And while you'd rescued Kaku before they could completely erase his humanity, there were still gaping holes in his knowledge, and his smile didn't reach his eyes nearly as often. There was much you had to fill him in on. You spent many nights just talking to distract him from his painful recovery. You held his hand and tried to pretend he still had a heartbeat.
But now? Now you're back at your dingy old apartment, limbs entangled on the couch, staring out the window at the skyscrapers above.
"I think that one will be my next target," you say, pointing up at a gilded skyscraper that seems to pierce the clouds. "Heard the owner there hoards gold. Actual gold! Can you believe it? We'd be rich."
"Sounds like a challenge, though." Kaku's free hand twirls a dull blade between fingers, trying to familiarize himself with his new body. He's admitted a couple times to phantom limb syndrome, like his flesh and blood is just beyond reach. "Sure you'll be able to handle it, darling?"
"It'll be no problem for the Greatest Thief in Water 7. Stealing a bunch of gold will be a cakewalk, seeing as I already grabbed the greatest treasure this city had." You get a quizzical stare in response. "That'd be you, partner."
"Partner," Kaku echoes. This smile lights up his whole face. "I like the sound of that. So, what's the first step in your plan?"
You hum in thought and look deep into his eyes.
"I do believe our first step should be a visit to the zoo. We've got a lot to catch up on, after all."

March Magical Forecast
Welcome to March and eventually SPRING everyone! This Pisces and Aries season is all about HEALING and making peace with the past so that we can move forward. Though the two zodiac seasons are split in the month of March, the final lunar cycle in Pisces will weave our internal journeys of healing through the month, reviewing our spiritual paths, examining our emotional bodies, shedding beliefs and mindsets that no longer work and making peace with the people of our past along with mending emotional wounds.
In the Pisces half there will be a lot of days with no notable transits so there will be a lot of time for rest and reflection before the fiery excitement of Aries season kicking it off on the first quarter moon. It's a time to reflect on challenges in life and see what is and what's not working in order to grow. Along with healing there will be a lot of opportunities to get work done. Aries season will bring endless transits of lucky boosts in our areas of work, business and responsibilities so it will feel like things are waking up and taking off after hibernation. Though there are a lot of exciting steamy romantic aspects, there are more aspects urging us to heal before we make new bonds. However in Aries season there is a lot of potential for new friends, new opportunities and new lovers. You just need to prioritize the healing or else some of those challenging aspects can hit you like a brick. (One of Aries season's theme is confronting challenges so if you try to skirt past the work it wont end up in your favor later).
Week 1
1 - ā˜¾ā™Ž Moon in Libra
The first day of March has a pleasant and calm vibe as the moon wraps up it's transit in Libra. There are no other notable transits so the energy will still feel high after the full moon however it will be a time to process that energy and integrate it into our lives as we look forward to the new month ahead.
When the moon is in Libra it's a good time for peace and harmonizing spells, glamour magic, love magic especially self love and investing our energy towards the things that we love. There will be a lot of themes revolving around love and healing this month so reflect on what truths the Full Moon in Virgo wanted to show you and think about how you can integrate them in your life to promote more self love.
2 - ā˜¾ā™ Moon enters Scorpio
There are no notable transits today other than the moon entering Scorpio. When the moon is in Scorpio it's a good day for shadow work, energy work, spirit work and hedge witchcraft.
3 - ā˜¾ā™ Disseminating Moon | Moon Trine Sun Venus in Pisces trines Uranus in Taurus
Today will feel celebratory and exciting! These energies are brought to you by the Moon in Scorpio trining the Sun and Venus in Pisces trining Uranus in Taurus. The Disseminating moon is a time for gratitude as we reflect on what we've accomplished so far on a personal level during this lunar cycle since the New Moon. However if we feel our tasks aren't complete yet its a time to focus more energy towards them. With the Venus and Uranus trine it will bring new and exciting discoveries, people and ventures to our interests in life. In romantic relationships this can cause couples to want to experiment. With artists we may find new outlets to express ourselves. Venus and Uranus trine is a great time for creative experimentation and expanding our perspectives on our interests.
4 - ā˜¾ā™ Mars enters Gemini Moon enters Sagittarius
Suddenly our source of motivation and drive may feel a shift as Mars enters Gemini. Here mars is considerably more versatile and flexible, however unlike Taurus, it is less determined and focused. Our interests may become more diversified however our energies may become scattered and sometimes ineffective. Though we may excel in communicating ideas, acting out on them may become more challenging in this cycle. However this time could be about expanding our interests and learning new material. As the moon enters Sagittarius we may feel more optimistic and ready to focus on the bigger picture. It's time to put focus on our true interests and learn more material about them. Ā
5 - ā˜¾ā™ Mercury conjuncts Jupiter in Aquarius
It's a day to expand our perspectives and feel optimistic as Mercury and Jupiter join in the heavens. This conjunction brings good news, optimism and a happy frame of mind. We should be feeling broad-minded, generous and sociable. A great way to take advantage of this energy is to plan journeys and holidays (the best time for this!) or take time to study something new. This energy is great for taking exams or for doing anything that you are supposed to mentally ace. A lucky transit like this only happens once a year! You should also be getting endless ideas today so it's a good time to write them down. This energy can also help you overcome creative/mental blocks as this conjunction will boost our mental energy. One thing to be aware of though is this optimism may make us plan more than we can handle in the future. As long as you are are aware of your limits this should be a great day to make plans for travel and for future fun! Lastly make sure to have fun on this day! Do something you enjoy, call up some friends or take time to learn about something you've always wanted to try out!
6 - ā˜¾ā™ Last Quarter Moon
It's a day of reflection as the moon enters it's last quarter phase in Sagittarius. Today we can reflect on our personal and emotional journeys from the start of the New Moon in Aquarius on the 11th of February. In what ways have we aimed to release ourselves from elements in our lives that are repressing us? How did we honor our uniqueness and individuality? Did we feel like we've experienced some type of progression, evolution or freedom during this time? It's a good day to meditate, bring awareness to these aspects of your life and see if you are happy with the lessons you've learned or if there is still more work to do. With the moon in Sagittarius it's a time for expansion and growth so if you don't feel like you've done enough during the Aquarius new moon cycle, this last quarter moon is giving you the opportunity for additional growth and exploration of these elements before it wraps up the cycle. As the Last Quarter moon is a good time for reflection on the previous cycle it's also a good time to do some divination for shadow work. You can look to your sources of divining to see where you should focus your energy for the remainder of the cycle or how you can still honor the lessons of this Aquarius new moon cycle before it ends. Ask your cards is there any way you can make further progress or release certain repressing ideas before the cycle ends.
The week ahead is going to be very peaceful with it's transits until the New Moon in Pisces. It will be a restful yet contemplative period that can allow us to focus on wrapping up our goals or doing internal work before the new cycle begins.
--------------- Week 2
7 - ā˜¾ā™‘ Moon enters Capricorn
There are no major transits today other than the moon entering Capricorn. When the moon enters Capricorn we may find it easier to tackle our to do lists and analyze our emotions and thoughts with more ease. It's a great day to complete tasks as we will feel our sense of responsibility heighten. It's also a great day for ancestral magic, mineral based magic (crystals, earth and metals), strengthening wards and boundaries and as the moon is waning it's good energy to help wrap things up.
8 - ā˜¾ā™‘
The moon continues it's transit in Capricorn today. Today's energy will feel the same as yesterday making it another good day to focus on work and wrapping up projects.
9 - ā˜¾ā™’ Balsamic Moon | Moon in Capricorn sextiles Sun in Pisces Moon enters Aquarius
When the moon is waning into it's Balsamic phase it's a good time to start cleansing, breaking chords, banishing and clearing anything unwanted from repressive relationships to harmful mentalities that are weighing you down before the new cycle begins. The moon will sextile the Sun in Capricorn making this energy feel productive. The sextile will be the boost we will feel to get everything needed done. As the moon enters Aquarius the themes of our freedom, repression and individuality becomes the theme of our inner landscape again. We will find ourselves reflecting on this lunar cycle starting with the New Moon in Aquarius, what Mercury rx in Aquarius had to teach us about our past, our previous social circles, if they were helpful to our growth and progress or if they were repressive and suppressed our uniqueness. As the moon closes up it's cycle in Aquarius, we will start to understand the lessons of Mercury's retrograde, what Aquarius season had to teach us about our own freedom and individuality and the inner progress we've made during this Aquarian lunar cycle. We will start to understand what roles we may have played in social groups and how that could have shaped the way we see ourselves, if we feel supported or if we feel like an outcast. Certain truths that could have been obscured by social politics or emotional pain and insecurities could finally be understood and help us move on from the past. After all Aquarius is all about progression and individuality.
10 - ā˜¾ā™’ The moon continues it's transit in Aquarius today. It's a good day to reflect on the themes of the lunar Aquarian cycle, Mercury's retrograde in Aquarius and what we have learned from Aquarius season's lessons.
11 - ā˜¾ā™“ Sun conjunct Neptune in Pisces Moon enters Pisces
Today will feel magical and dreamy as the sun conjuncts Neptune in Pisces increasing our sensitivity, intuition, empathy and magic. Our boundaries may feel a bit loose today so be careful of who you choose to surround yourself in or the environments you have to be in. Of course make sure to protect your identity or information as Neptune aspects can make the scammer, thieves and deceivers come out of their little holes to ruin lives. Make sure to treat everything with discernment as illusions may be more enchanting than usual. On a positive level this is a good time to escape reality through art like the movies or books, music and illustration. We will feel creative today and more attracted to the spiritual world. It's also a good day to practice magic and review our path. Other than exploring our creativity, we can explore our magic and collective subconscious through dream magic. It's a good day for drinking a dream brew and practicing lucid dreaming. Some herbs that help with this are lavender, mugwort (small amounts- and do not consume if pregnant), rosemary and valerian root. Clary Sage helps as a fragrance if you'd like to sprinkle the oil on your bed. However it has a very sharp fragrance that is not too soothing so be sparse with it.
12 - ā˜¾ā™“ The moon is in Pisces so the energy will carry over to today as well. When the moon is in Pisces it's a good day for art magic, water based magic, dream oracling, boundary setting, meditating, healthy escapism through art and divination.
13 - ā˜¾ā™“ New Moon in Pisces
A new lunar cycle begins as the moon aligns with the sun in Pisces. We will feel heightened sensitivity and empathy as we will be having four planets in Pisces at this time. (The Sun, the Moon, Neptune and Venus all within four degrees of one another). Pay attention to your dreams during this transit as they will become more vivid and can give you deeper insights towards your current spiritual path. With so much energy focused on Pisces we may feel a sleepiness during the day but also a strong sense of otherworldliness as the realms become blended together. This is the final lunar cycle before the fresh new start coming in Aries season. Pisces lies at the end of each journey, being the amalgamation of all that has come before. As we enter this last lunar cycle, it will be like diving into the ocean-like source as our subconscious connects us to the collective emotions and astral plane. Lunar cycles are all about our inner progress and emotional landscapes. Each new moon begins a new cycle with a theme. As each comes to an end we end up reflecting on that theme and our emotional growth. The Pisces New Moon marks the end of all of the lunar cycles. This cycle will be reflecting on the emotional progress of the entire lunar year starting from the first Aries lunar cycle from March 2020. As it's been a traumatic year for most (last Aries season marked the global lockdown in the western world for most countries), we may be faced with not only our own but the collective emotional sense of feeling restless, lost, confused and unsure of where to go. We will feel a sense of drowning in the dark night of the soul. However this new moon has the energy of surrendering. Surrender to fate, surrender to the tides and let go. In the release and in your dreams you can find rest and in that space of void can birth new opportunities.
This new lunar cycle will have us focus on our emotional body, what we may have absorbed emotionally throughout the year, releasing it and expanding our creativity. Maybe use divination to see how you can expand your creativity, your magic, balance your emotions and let go of/create boundaries for any negative emotions or unhelpful mentalities that are keeping you bound to where you are.
--------------- Week 3
14 - ā˜¾ā™ˆ Venus conjunct Neptune in Pisces Moon enters Aries
The energy is fantastic for starting something new especially in regards to us using our creativity. With Venus conjunct Neptune in pisces our creativity and compassion is at a high right now. Our artistic pursuits and hobbies could greatly benefit from us focusing our energy towards them. With the moon in Aries there is a focus on new beginnings and taking action. Though the Venus and Neptune conjunct could slow our motivation to get any responsibilities or busywork done, with the moon in Aries we will get some motivation at least to focus on anything that helps us to day dream, be creative or escape. Along with our spiritual perspectives expanding and our creativity being explored, this conjunction can strengthen compassion and spiritual bonds in an existing relationship or bring new partnerships your way. If you are in need of spiritual friends or people in your life that are aligned with your journey, today is a good day to manifest them and work on that attraction magic. However with Neptune aspects it can bring dissolved barriers and deception. Be discerning with whom you let in your space and be clear in who you'd like to attract. This aspect can make it difficult to see people as they are as we could choose to believe in a projected fantasy in our minds about them instead. This can allow deceptive or manipulative people to slip past our boundaries easily.
15 - ā˜¾ā™ˆ Mercury enters Pisces
We will feel an energy shift in the mental realm today as Mercury enters Pisces. We may pay less attention to specific details yet glean information from our surroundings through emotions and feelings. Our sense of empathy is heightened during this time along with our intuition. We may experience incredibly vivid dreams during this transit, pick up on others emotions around us with ease and feel a deeper sense of creativity. Unfortunately Mercury in Pisces transit can make us easily prone to escapism and daydreaming which makes these next few weeks more difficult to focus on work and organization. You can take some time to surrender and just escape or explore the ethereal, your magic, your subconscious and dreams. Yet for the times you need to concentrate you should take time to meditate and focus on grounding yourself and shielding. Mercury in Pisces can make us more susceptible to illusions and trickery. It's important we have strong boundaries during this time. Consider working with Hematite and Black Tourmaline during this time. If you do not want to work with crystals, using energy can help with meditation. Practice grounding and setting up a shield around yourself. Make sure to practice discernment especially when giving out your personal information or signing any agreements and contracts.
16 - ā˜¾ā™‰ Sun in Pisces sextiles Pluto in Capricorn Moon enters Taurus
We may feel a sense of things wrapping up or cases getting closed on this day as the Sun sextiles Pluto. This positive aspect gives a boost of energy between the two planets, making us motivated to uncover truths, understand our own or others hidden nature, change deep seated habits, suddenly cut out any unhelpful beliefs, people or situations in our lives and grant us the determination to complete any goals. This sextile is like a helpful trimming of everything unneeded from your life right now along with a boost to complete any essential tasks you need to wrap up. We may feel ourselves suddenly over a situation, ready to move on and distancing ourselves from places or people who may bring the worst sides out of us. Maybe a deeply buried emotional issue or trauma we haven't been able to process can finally be understood with some clarity that can help us move on. On a physical level this can be the motivational boost for us to either cut a bad habit or finally take care of the dreaded laundry chair. It's an empowering time that can help us execute our plans.
17 - ā˜¾ā™‰ Waxing Crescent | Sun sextile Moon
It's a good day to review your new moon intentions and any new projects or ventures you have started and start experimenting! When the moon is in it's waxing crescent phase it's a good time to try new things, experiment and learn something new in our area of interests. In regards to our projects, it's a good time to start on some rough drafts or brainstorm. It's a great time to experiment, make mistakes and take notes on what works and what doesn't. Today the Sun will sextile the Moon giving us a boost of energy to work on ourselves, our personal spheres and interests so we will have the motivation to get tasks done. Reflect on what intentions you've set for the Pisces New Moon and see if there's anything there you'd like to explore or try out. If you wanted to be more creative or process your emotions creatively maybe try to experiment with art today. If you wanted to expand your spiritual perspective maybe try it from a green magic approach and get in touch with nature as the moon is in Taurus. It could be a good time to ground your practice and connect to your local nature.
18 - ā˜¾ā™Š Mars in Gemini sextiles Chiron in Aries Venus in Pisces sextiles Pluto in Capricorn
It's another day where we will get a positive opportunity to work through some trauma yet also find some solutions to lessons in life. This energy will be brought to us by Mars in a sextile with Chiron. This sextile will give us the motivation to work through some of our insecurities or current obstacles. Whatever we may have seen as a set back we could feel the desire to break through today. This energy will be supported by Venus in a sextile with Pluto which will give us the drive to find alignment with our authenticity. We may be more aware of our passions and interests in life which we would like to devote ourselves to. In terms of relationships this may make us crave finding a soul connection or deepening our relationships on a more profound level. This can also make us want to explore our sexuality more. The two sextiles can give us the drive to work through any deep insecurities, expand our sexuality and be in more alignment with our true selves along with getting rid of any obstacles that are in our way.
19 - ā˜¾ā™Š Moon in Gemini
There are no major transits today other than the moon entering Gemini. When the moon is in Gemini it's a great time to learn something new, express ourselves through writing, do air elemental magic, music and sound based meditation and musical magic.
20 - ā˜¾ā™Š Spring Equinox Ostara Sun enters Aries
It's the Spring Equinox!! Blessed Ostara to those who celebrate. Happy Spring and Happy Aries Season!
Aries season feels like a fresh start in the year and the official end of the hibernation season. Our ENERGY is back!! At 100% especially after the restful and dreamy Pisces season. You can always feel the fiery energeticness of Aries season the moment the sun transits into the sign. It's the unmistakable energy of the Mad March Hare, the excitement to spend time outside, and to get stuff rolling into action.
Ostara and the Spring Equinox is all about sprouting in a physical and metaphorical sense. In a physical sense the world around us is starting to bud, sprout and blossom. Reflect on the intentions you have set during Imbolc for this year and see how you can progress those plans and start to materialize them. Review your plans and your goals. Do you see anything starting to bud? How can you bring more nurturing to these areas to help them progress? In a physical sense sometimes when we sow seeds, they do not germinate just because the conditions weren't right. Metaphorically we can take the seeds we've sown as our intentions in Imbolc and see if they have started to sprout. If they haven't it's time to try again and if they have then it's time to move forward! Aries season is about charging forward, trial and error so it's a good time to take stock on what needs to get done and just do it!
Other ways to celebrate this solar celebration and sabbat is to do a final cleanse of your space to say good bye to winter and the hibernation period (Spring Cleaning!), using your preferred method of divining to examine your current path and seek a new direction if you feel you need one, use green magic to sow seeds and write your desires on an eggshell starter or contemplate on new people and experiences to attract into your life. Right now may not be the best time for attraction magic for people but it is for opportunities and experiences. If you need a new job, another chance or even to break through obstacles and barriers it's a good time to send energy that way. The Libra full moon is a great time to attract people your way and do love magic in general, but this year the Full Moon will have a strong focus on healing. This year may not be about advancing our social circle (also most of us literally can't with the new regulations) but astrologically the heavens want us to reflect and heal anyway.
--------------- Week 4
21 - ā˜¾ā™‹ First Quarter Moon Venus enters Aries Mercury in Pisces sextiles Uranus in Taurus
There will be another fiery energy shift today as Venus enters Aries. This will make the first chapter of spring feel exciting with increased potentials for new partnerships, hookups and friendships. Venus in Aries loves to seduce, chase and conquest so the spring fever may arrive early with this transit. While Venus is in Aries, love will feel more spontaneous and direct. It will feel like a brand new start so if you are looking to date again or get over past relationships whether it be an ex or an old friend-group you've grown apart from, this is a good time to meet new people. We may be aware of this energy shift as the moon enters it's first quarter phase in Cancer. We may look back on our Pisces New Moon intentions and reflect on our emotional body or what we may have been carrying emotionally with us from the previous year. We could think about who kept us feeling supported or safe. In a positive scenario this Venusian energy could make us feel more inclined to hang out with loved ones and plan new things to do as things open up. In another scenario it could make us feel like we need new friends and people around us since we are not feeling as supported as we need to be. Alternatively this energy can make us review our values and see if we need to change our current path to align us to what we want and need. The first quarter moon is good for reviewing plans and strategizing and Venus is also about our values. With Venus in Aries we may develop new preferences or styles and there could be a drive to update these aspects of ourselves. Lastly Mercury will sextile Uranus today adding additional excitement to the energy. This transit brings exciting news, potential change of habits and routines but with the chance to learn new things and meet new people. This transit also brings flashes of insight, intriguing dreams that can help shift our perspectives and help us to look forward to the future and make plans. New insights can help solve old problems on this day.
To wrap up, First Quarter Moons are perfect for planning and there is a lot of positive energy helping this to go ahead. Making plans and strategizing would go favorably today. If you do feel restless with all the Aries energy and the first quarter moon creating tension, then today is a great day to focus on the home and do some spring cleaning! The moon in Cancer may give us the boost to want to tidy our space and freshen it up for Spring. It's a good way to channel the energy since its not the best time to go ahead with plans under the first quarter moon.
22 - ā˜¾ā™‹ Mars in Gemini trines Saturn in Aquarius
It's a great day to get work DONE!!! As Saturn is a slow moving planet, this positive aspect with Mars only happens about twice a year. Trines are beneficial aspects that bring a lot of luck, but only if you put the work towards it. However once you do you will notice everything flowing together so smoothly as if you are under a lucky charm. Unlike Sextiles which can give you a boost of energy to get to work, Trines are so harmonious you can easily miss them, so it's good to mark the calendar and remember that today is a great day to GRIND! Set your morning clock to get up early, get a nice caffeinated drink and DOMINATE the day. You will realize how powerful you feel with Mars in a positive trine with Saturn. This transit gives us the strength, ambition and perseverance to take on the hardest of tasks and complete them on time, on budget and with perfection. You WILL find the most efficient way to get the job done. This is an excellent transit to follow through on something you are passionate about or something you have desired for some time to accomplish. Lasting success and practical results can be found in business and work. This is a great time to start a business and expect support from authority figures. Work, responsibility and finding courage to accomplish tasks and goals can all sound draining but today the heavens are giving you a lucky boost to get things done. Think about any tasks you feel you need a boost with accomplishing and set today aside to focus on them!
23 - ā˜¾ā™‹
Today the moon is wrapping up it's transit in Cancer. There are no other notable transits today. Therefore it's a good day to take it easy and rest. When the moon is in Cancer it's a good day for magic in the household such as kitchen magic, bath magic, cleaning and cleansing and gardening. It's also a good day for journaling, emotional reflection, shadow work and self nurturing.
24 - ā˜¾ā™Œ Waxing Gibbous | Sun Trine Moon Mercury in Pisces squares Mars in Gemini
Aries season can feel exciting, rushed, fast paced and hostile, yet as much as we all feel like we are racing through this period, there are definitely some speed bumps to be aware of in order for us to not spin out of control. Today is one of those speed bumps with Mercury in a square with Mars. This square has the huge potential for fights to break out. There is an increase of rushed thinking, short tempers, aggression, rash decision making, jumping to conclusions, all which can make us say the wrong thing or choose the wrong decisions. Take a moment if you can to just reflect, meditate and bring some self awareness so we can navigate the day with a clear head and not make the wrong step or trip on any land mines while we are at it. Others may display more hot energy but it's good for us to do some energetic shielding and be mindful of our boundaries to not get swept up in it. Using this day to reflect (squares are always great for reflection and strategizing!) we can see where we may hold repressed anger or even repressed desires. Strategizing on how we can healthily release this energy or go after what we need or want can be beneficial with this energy. Today the Sun in Aries will trine the Moon in Leo which will bring some luck and positivity to the day. It can be a great day for us to go after what we want but it's good to really reflect and be clear on it before diving right in since the energy will feel chaotic. Alternatively if you don't have anything you are chasing after and you resonate more with the repressed energy and anger aspect, then the moon in Leo is also great for self expression and creativity. It's a good day to channel your repressed energy into a personal creation to get it all out. Also to keep in mind, the moon in Leo means the drama and big egos will come out of everyone so be cautious of big personalities in your life looking for a fight. It's a good day for boundaries.
25 - ā˜¾ā™Œ The energy may still carry on to today, however there are no notable transits. The moon is wrapping up it's transit in Leo. When the moon is in Leo it's a good day for creativity, fire and light based magic, self love rituals and performance arts.
26 - ā˜¾ā™ Sun conjunct Venus in Aries Moon enters Virgo
The energy today will feel HOT with the sun conjunct Venus in Aries. This is a nice energy switch from two days before where tempers could be high and people around us aggressive. With the Sun conjunct Venus there will be love, peace, harmony and increased pleasures for all the things lovely in our lives. It's a great day to focus on our relationships, creativity and finances. This conjunct is also fantastic energy for friendships, romance and social influences. With the energy in fiery Aries it's a good time for dating, meeting someone new, sexual exploration or trying out new forms of creativity. It's still not the best time for love spells as the moon will be inconjunct the sun today. This means that the energies are in disharmony so you may not want to invite that energy in your life right now. However we could potentially meet someone new today by chance anyway. With the moon entering Virgo, reflect on your thoughts from the previous full moon (when it was in Virgo, Feb 27th). What insights did you gain? Where could you organize and focus your energy to help manifest your dreams? The energy today could bring us to the next chapter of that journey. Reflect on your path so far to see if you feel you are on the right track.
27 - ā˜¾ā™ There are no notable transits today. The moon is wrapping up it's transit in Virgo. When the moon is in Virgo it's a good day to take stock of what needs to be done, organize, review details, tackle any issues and focus on our mental and physical health.
--------------- Final Week
28 - ā˜¾ā™Ž Full Moon in Libra Venus conjunct Chiron in Aries
So usually this full moon is the love spell EVENT of the year however this year 2021 there is a SHADOW work twist to it.
The Full Moon in Libra has themes of harmony, balance and justice but it's also all about partnerships. The full moon opposes the sun bringing together the other side of the element for a full balanced picture. Aries season is all about ourselves, our goals and new beginnings, however the full moon in Libra is about partnerships and what people bring to enrich our lives, help us grow and strive towards our goals together. Especially as the Spring season hastens, this is a great time for love magic and putting out energy to attract someone new.
However since humanity and the universe is experiencing some collective growing pains and the transits want to push us to grow as they challenge us more, our dear planet Venus, the ruler of Libra is in conjunction with CHIRON in Aries. They both will oppose the moon in Libra but that depends where you are, for most people this opposition will occur tomorrow on the 29th when the moon is still full yet no longer at it's peak. To break down what's happening with this energy we need to examine Chiron and the lessons this planet brings. The celestial bodies of Saturn, Jupiter and Chiron have the same similarities that they are all teachers and teach generations certain lessons to overcome. However unlike Jupiter which likes to teach through traveling, expansion and good vibes, Saturn and Chiron get a bad wrap cause they require responsibility and inner healing which are harder obstacles to overcome. In classic astrology Saturn is seen as a malefic where as Chiron is seen as a wounded healer who just exists in your star chart to give you deep seated insecurities and incurable trauma. Both are not true.
Chiron is an alchemist. It is a problem solver and ultimately a healer. It's true that the aspects it may give in your star chart can never go away and it's a sensitive area, however it doesn't serve to be a source of pain but a gateway of understanding of how to empower yourself in that area and in turn empower others once you figure it out. Chiron has three levels to it's energy. First it makes us aware of what hurts and brings this pain to the surface. This is the wounded healer phase. The second phase is healing the wound. This only happens if we are aware of the wound. Like the great lyrics of Elizabeth Fraser, "You Can't Heal what You Can't Feel". Lastly Chiron transforms the wound into a gift. Chiron's glyph is a key helping us to unlock new levels of understanding. Shyness becomes quiet confidence. Low self esteem becomes self empowerment. etc.
We all may have some insecurities when it comes to romantic love because we live in a society that deliberately tells us that some are worthy of love (and eventually reproduction or having a family) where as others aren't. We may look in the mirror and think 'I am undeserving because I am not a good enough candidate' because we were taught good enough candidates have access to money, or can market themselves well on IG, or are close to whiteness, thinness, neurotypical/able bodied- whatever this white supremacist late stage capitalistic society favors. This full moon in Libra wants us to heal. It wants us to look at our past relationships (and I mean all kinds from partnerships to friendships to romantic affairs) and forgive yourself for any ugly situations in order to move on. If you hold negative beliefs revolving around romance (examples: you feel you need someone to complete you, you need a partner of a certain status to elevate/validate you, you feel unworthy when you are single etc.) it's time to release them in order to grow. If you are afraid of love because of the past, it's time to release that pain in order to grow. Reflecting back on the New Moon's cycle starting in Pisces, this full moon wants us to review these emotions we could be holding from our partnerships in the past and previous year and release them. Chiron is similar to Saturn where it does want you to do the work and if you skirt the responsibility, you will feel the pain. However if you work with this energy, it will show you how to love so you can break through the fear and start loving yourself and others for real. In this sense this full moon is about clearing, releasing, self love and emotional growth instead of inviting something new.
29 - ā˜¾ā™Ž Sun conjunct Chiron in Aries
More healing is in the forefront today as the Sun is conjunct Chiron in Aries. Both Venus and Chiron (no longer conjunct though) will be opposing the transiting moon in Libra but at different times. Some of the energy from yesterday during the Full Moon's peak will carry on today creating another chapter of healing. When the Sun is conjunct Chiron we may have emotional pain come to the surface, it can even be the theme of the day, however Chiron wants us to work through the pain in order to heal and find a solution.
Especially after the height of the full moon, it's a good day to rest, do shadow work, spend time alone and heal. If you have a loved one going through it, feel free to reach out if you have the energy to. It's especially a good day to extend compassion to our loved ones and make sure everyone is ok and that they know they are loved.
30 - ā˜¾ā™ Mercury conjunct Neptune in Pisces Venus in Aries sextiles Saturn in Aquarius Moon enters Scorpio
It feels like this day is the day to put what you've learned in your love healing to work. Today Venus sextiles Saturn making the two planetary energies want to work together to build better foundations of love. This can manifest as us wanting to curate long lasting substantial relationships, better friendships and helpful partnerships that can promote our growth. We won't be interested in one night stands or superficial relations today. In terms of our work and finances this may make us want to work on our finances or put effort towards our creative work. Creativity will be heightened today with Mercury aligned with Neptune in Pisces. We may experience an expanded sense of imagination, creativity and incredible dreams with this transit. It may make getting work done a bit more difficult since we will be caught up in day dreaming. However this energy will be appreciated in creative pursuits. The moon enters Scorpio allowing us to feel deeply which can help the healing and creative process. It's a good day for shadow work and spending time alone to bring awareness to our inner worlds.
31 - ā˜¾ā™ Sun in Aries sextiles Saturn in Aquarius
The last day of the month ends with a positive aspect between the Sun and Saturn. It's another great day to get things done! We will receive a big boost of energy to tackle tasks and meet our goals. This sextiles gives us patience, perseverance and a strong work ethic. Completing serious and difficult tasks will come more at ease today.

Fiction recommendation 21
Time for some more fic recs because its been awhile since I did them!
1. å¹»ęƒ³å†œåœŗ (Fantasy Farm)
Author:Ā č„æ子ē»Ŗ
Farming/slice of life, food fic, supernatural, mythology
Summary [taken from novel updates]:
After being fired, Lu Qingjiu finally decided to return to his hometown to farm.
At first, he started raising a pig, and then he found that the pig could solve more high-level math questions than he could.
After that, he started raising a flock of chickens, and then he found that his own fighting ability was one-tenth of that of a single chicken.
Finally, Lu Qingjiu finally realised that this old home wasnā€™t quite rightā€¦ Especially a certain person by his side who constantly stared at him day in and day out.
Lu Qingjiu: ā€œAre you drooling because of the spicy stir-fry Iā€™m holding or because of me?ā€
Bai Yuehu pointed at the stir-fry.
Lu Qingjiu: ā€œThen can you let go??ā€
Bai Yuehu reluctantly glanced at Lu Qingjiuā€™s arm, before loosening his teeth.
Comments:
My first thought is: donā€™t read this fic when youā€™re hungry. Every chapter is filled with delicious descriptions of food thatā€™ll make oneā€™s mouth water. The novel makes a lot of references to creatures from the Classics of the Mountains and Seas, which is a delight to learn about. An easy-to-read, fun novel.Ā

2. å…Øēƒé«˜č€ƒ (Global Examination)
Author: ęœØ苏里
Infinite flow, suspense, action
Summary [taken from novel updates]:
One day, You Huo and his famiIy was puIIed into an exam caIIed the GIobaI University Entrance Examination. Going through exams together with other unfortunate examinees, their Iives are put at stake and they can only Iive by passing each exam. However, something about these exams and the system controIIing it didnā€™t seem right ā€” lt seemed to be trying to trap the examinees with ridiculous ruIes and strange questionsā€¦
There, You Huo meets lnvigiIator 001 who seems to hoId a key to the past he no Ionger remembered and, together, they go through the exam, unravelling the mysteries behind their past and the system.
Tldr: A pair of chaotic madmen work together to go against the examination system while feeding the readers dogfood.
Comments:
I admit that I didnā€™t like the story when I first started reading it. But as the story progresses, the rules of the examination fall into place and the different examinations got very challenging and interesting. The whole power couple and stranger-to-lover tropes are an added highlight.Ā

3. å…ØēƒäøŠēŗæ (Earth Online)
Author: 莫ę™Øę¬¢
Infinite flow, suspense, survival, action
Summary:
Six months ago, tens of thousands of huge towers appeared all over the world, floating over cities. No one could do anything about them.
Half a year later, people are used to the towers and learned to ignore them.
One day Tang Mo saw a bug fly towards one of the towers and hit it.
The next day, a child's voice announced to the entire world: Ding dong! 15th November, 2017, the earth went online.
Ā  Ā The three iron rules of the towers: Ā  Ā (1) The towers shall explain everything. Ā  Ā (2) The game time starts from 6:00 - 18:00. Ā  Ā (3) All players please try their best to attack and defeat the towers.
Comments:
Another suspenseful infinite flow stories. I love the smart power couple dynamic, how the two of them become powerful when they collaborate, but are also equally capable of defeating the towersā€™ levels by themselves. Moreover, all the characters donā€™t have your typical ā€œoh let me be a hero and save everyoneā€ complex. They all weighed the benefits and costs at each turn and are capable of making decisions that best maximize their chances of survival - whether that is ruthlessly killing other players or extending a saving hand. All the powers and items that the players received and the world-building are very unique (especially Tang Moā€™s and his book haha). This one is gonna challenge your brain a bit, but definitely worth a read.Ā

4.Ā äøč¦åœØåžƒåœ¾ę”¶é‡Œę”ē”·ęœ‹å‹ (Donā€™t pick up boyfriends from the trash bin)
Author: éŖ‘é²ø南去
Infinite flow, transmigration
SummaryĀ [from novel updates]:
Chi Xiaochi: fourth-rate citizen at birth, three-time award-winning film emperor, second-rate temper, first-class looks. He crawled his way out of hell on hard mode to become a winner at life.
Then, he was smashed into a vegetative state by a chandelier.
061: Hello, hereā€™s a brief rundown on the scum gong reconditioning system. This system measures the regret level of the scum gong. Every time their regret level reaches one hundred points, you will be able to leave the current world. A friendly tip, usually, through dedication and self-sacrifice, our employees slowly foster a sense of dependency in the scum gongs, gradually making it so the scum gongs canā€™t live without them.
Chi Xiaochi: How many regret points is a complete loss of reputation and standing worth? How about a fall from grace? Or wanting something but never being able to obtain it?
061: ā€¦ā€¦
Comment:
Donā€™t let the title fool you. I entered the novel thinking itā€™s some meet-cute modern-day slice-of-life comedy, but it turns out to have some really good angst and adventure moments in there. Heck, itā€™s been awhile since I cried for a novel. :ā€™)Ā
There are ten arcs (i.e. worlds) that the protagonist enters, each with its own backstory, so this novel might feel longer than the usual danmei. Nevertheless, I enjoyed all the details placed into each world and all the side characters. I also like that the protagonist is very smart and cunning and he grows throughout the different worlds. The only con Iā€™ll say to this is that everything proceeds a bit too smoothly, especially with the golden finger of 061, so the protagonist can come off as being too OP. Nevertheless, the ending and last world are just huge tear-jerkers.Ā

5. čæŖå„„å…ˆē”Ÿ (Mr. Dior)
Author: ē»æ野千鹤
Comedy, fluff, romanceĀ
Summary [from novel updates]:
One day, Zhang Chenfei met a car accident. Fortunately, he didnā€™t suffer any serious physical injuries. However, due to the impact of the car crash, his brainā€™s perception of the real world had turned into that of the novel that he was reading prior to the accident. The thing that horrified his wife, Jiao Qi, wasā€¦ the Smart Brain, Louis XIII downloaded a series of books which meant that his husband would turn into a different character each time!
How will our adorable little wife deal with this kind of husband who seemed to suddenly suffer from multiple personalities?
This novelā€™s plot focuses on Zhang Chenfeiā€™s changing personality based from the characters in the books, and how his wife, Jiao Qi, deal with every character as he will have to act in sync with whoever his husbandā€™s character is. This is per the advise of the private doctor since treatment of this special condition was still under research.
As they act out their roles, they will gradually discover and learn more about the other, which theyā€™ve never known in their seven years of living together.
Comment:
The amount of second-hand embarrassment and cringe I got from this novel is huge and I love it lol. If you are curious about how cheesy and cliche Chinese romance can get, please do try reading this. It includes some of the worst and most dog blood tropes in a comedic and satirical way, while advancing the main pairingā€™s relationship at the same time. Truly a fun read!

Homecoming
This is a story Iā€™ve been planning for over a year and finally feel readyish to post it. This first chapter has been reread about ten times so itā€™s about time to release it. It introduces the main OC for the story, which will spend the next fifteen chapters exploring Jeffā€™s return to earth before Josie comes back into play.Ā
Thank you @misssquidtracy for being my cheerleader, this would be no where near as far written if you hadnā€™t enjoyed it so.Ā
I hope you enjoy chapter one, which is set between Series 2 and 3.Ā
AO3 and FFN
First Impressions
Josie stood outside the hall and took a deep breath. You can do this, she thought, you already have the invite for the invite only event. They might be the big bosses, the people who matter, but you matter too. You just have to network. Don't sell yourself short.Ā
She steeled herself again and swallowed. She really didn't belong here. London was a long way from the compassionate community she grew up with in Scotland. But the idea of getting stuck there and never fulfilling her dreams made her determined, despite the imposter syndrome that plagued her. She looked down at herself and tried to feel comfortable. They were her smartest clothes: a black pencil skirt, blouse with frilly collar and a fitted, thanks to Nancy's excellent seamstress skills, suit jacket. They were all high street brands which wouldn't compare to the designer suits and dresses she'd be mingling with. The only saving grace was the simple diamond chain around her neck. Worth more to Josie than anyone would know, and it gave her the courage she needed. Brushing down her jacket and holding her head high she strode forwards.
She had been so fixated on herself that she almost bumped into a mature couple. Josie stumbled out an apology and let them in first. Flustered, and having lost any semblance of confidence, she entered the room.Ā
****
Another networking event, this time forced on him by Lady Penelope. Scott scouted out the room as he sipped his Scotch. Many eyes were on the two Tracy brothers, all wanting but not yet daring, to approach. The power of his presence in a room of businessmen never ceased to amaze him.Ā
"Found someone you like yet?" Gordon chimed cheerfully from beside him, though Scott knew him well enough to hear the bored undertone. Penelope had invited Gordon and of course he had said yes, his brother absolutely smitten with the lady. Scott shook his head. Events like this maintained Tracy Industries reputation, though they also gave Scott his player reputation. It was an easy place to pick up a girlfriend or let off some steam. Scott surveyed the room again. Within sight there were a few women who appealed to him.Ā
"I don't always leave with someone."Ā
Scott took a sip of his drink.Ā
"Oh, so you're not the ever-successful ladiesā€™ man we thought you were?" Gordon teased.Ā
"Well, I didn't say that." Scott chuckled. "I just don't always want company."
Gordon rolled his eyes. "Yeah, right. I bet you've had many failed conquests. You just don't want to admit it."
Scott shook his head. "You believe what you want, Gordon."
"Bet you can't get a random woman to sleep with you," Gordon challenged.Ā
Scott bit his lip, trying not to rise to Gordon's bait. Yes, Scott had been planning to find some company for the evening, but a bet? He shouldn't sink to that. Thankfully, the CEO of a small engineering company that had worked with Tracy Industries a year ago strolled over. Scott slipped into CEO mode and exchanged the required pleasantries and confirmed that they were considering working with their company again, before one last handshake.Ā
"So, the Great Scott Tracy is backing down from a challenge?"
Scott rolled his eyes. Gordon was bored and just trying to find a way to entertain himself, but Scott did like a challenge. What's the worst that could happen? With a sigh, he gave in.Ā
"What are the stakes?"
"If you can't seduce the woman I pick, then you give the swimming pool its biannual clean."
"And if I win, you are on deck lounger duty for a month."
ā€œDeal.ā€
Gordon held out his hand and Scott shook it. He knew this was a bad idea, but itĀ
would liven up the evening a little, and Scott was in the mood for a little fun. Something to help him relax after a tough week. His brotherā€™s eyes scouted the room looking for the ideal candidate. The smirk that appeared on Gordonā€™s face worried him.Ā
ā€œThe next woman to walk through the door.ā€
Scott raised his eyebrow. It was a gamble, but Scott understood why Gordon hadĀ
done it. He nodded and took a sip of his drink. Both men had their eyes on the door. A few people left, but no one entered. When the door finally opened, they both held their breath. An older couple entered, their outfits and demeanour radiating their importance. A quick sideward glance at Gordon confirmed he was holding back a laugh. Scott sighed before looking back toward the couple. Behind them the door opened again and in walked a lone woman.Ā
ā€œThat one, the nervous blond.ā€ Gordon announced.Ā
A nod from Scott and he accepted the challenge. His eyes surveyed the woman. She was young, probably about Virgilā€™s age, and she definitely looked uncomfortable. Her clothing was smart and fitted her well, but he could tell they werenā€™t the high end fashion that many were wearing that evening. Her hair was loose, brushing down past her shoulders, and there was nothing wrong with her features. She had the kind of appearance most people would look over, including himself, for someone more striking. Scott started to formulate a strike plan. He knew he had to avoid overwhelming her, she probably wouldnā€™t be expecting to get the attention he was going to give her. He turned back to his brother; whose attention had turned to something else. Scott followed Gordonā€™s gaze to see Lady Penelope with a tall man, laughing away. The man was obviously flirting with the aristocrat. The clenched jaw and stiffened stance of the aquanaut gave in to jealousy he was feeling. Without a second thought, Gordon strolled over to the gathering and joined in, a fake smile plastered his face. Scott shook his head, before turning back to his target.Ā
****
The glass was chilled in her hand, and Josie took a sip of the non-alcoholic mojito with the hopes it would help steady her nerves. Practicing her breathing techniques briefly, she turned around only to come face to chest with someone. She was flustered again and felt heat rise in her cheeks. Her eyes fell on the man in front of her and her heart jumped.Ā
She froze. Her instincts put her on high alert. This man looked like trouble, and she had just made contact with his deep blue eyes. He smiled at her, dimples deepening in his cheeks when he did so. Mind over body, mind over body, she repeated in her head. It was the intensity he gave off, the way he held himself like he was in control. He hadn't been surprised by her almost bumping into him. He'd know she was there and hadn't moved. She'd seen this before at university, she'd learnt the signs from experience. But still, why did they always have to be attractive? Why did they always gravitate to her? Josie rolled her shoulders back and gave him a brief nod.Ā
ā€œExcuse me.ā€ Josie smiled politely, ducking as gracefully as she could past him.Ā
ā€œIā€™ve not seen you here before.ā€
Josie paused. His deep voice demanded her attention. She was here to network, at least she could get him over and done with. She could keep her cool, watch out for his game. Josie was wiser now. She turned around and held out her hand.
ā€œJosie McNelly, engineer for Taybrooke Aeronautics, Satellite division.ā€
He shook her hand firmly. The man looked familiar, though she couldn't place where from.Ā
ā€œScott Tracy, CEO of Tracy Industries.ā€
That explained the familiarity. She smile grew as she thought of her brotherā€™s prizedĀ
poster of Jeff Tracy which had hung above his bed. Josie could see the resemblanceĀ
to the astronaut. Same eyes for certain. She'd been shocked at the sudden loss of the great Jeff Tracy. Not that her brother had ever met him, but the astronaut had been such a big part of their childhood. Especially the fights over who was greater, her admiration for Neil Armstrong was still just as strong. The memories threw her, and suddenly she had no idea what to say next. How do you network again? What do you talk about with the CEO of Tracy Industries, one of the best engineering companies in the world? Facts about the company filled Josie's head and thankfully one stood out.
"Tracy Industries doesn't have a UK branch, so may I ask what brings you to London?"Ā
Josie took a deep breath as the man paused; glad she could make an impression. She congratulated herself while remembering what she was here to do. She'd failed to get a job at Tracy Industries on multiple occasions, maybe this could be a way in. She almost laughed at herself. The CEO was unlikely to care for someone as low down the pecking order as she. Part of her wanted to try, just in case. If people less qualified could get experience and jobs over her by knowing the right people, maybe she could too. That was why she was here, to get the contacts so she could play their game.Ā
"You've done your research. Tracy Industries works with some UK based companies that are represented here tonight, and the event is being hosted by a good friend of mine. I've not heard of Taybrooke Aeronautics before, care to give me some insight?"
His strikingly blue eyes gazed down at her with sincerity. It threw Josie to see it in someone she suspected of having ulterior motives, however she'd tried to keep her cool. Staying wary, she engaged with him.Ā
"Taybrooke Aeronautics is a small Scottish company. It started with plane design and manufacturing then branched out into satellites and astronautical technology. It's well known for its niche and unique satellite designs. It's entirely based in Scotland and has various sites throughout the country."
"Have they done anything I might have heard of?"
"Have you heard of Global One?"Ā
"The GDF's space station."
"Yes, the thrusters that keep it in orbit are a product of Taybrooke Aeronautics. They are actually my design."
"Your design? Aren't they normally developed by a team of engineers."
The surprise on Mr Tracy's face was priceless. It wasn't the first time people were shocked by what Josie could do, and she was planning to make sure it wasn't the last. If she wanted to become a big name rocket designer, she was going to have to blow a few minds.Ā
"The initial design was mine, obviously other engineers had input over materials and the like, but the actual design hasn't changed much. Taybrooke owns the patent, but my name is on it, so you can check it if you don't believe me. They aren't the only thing I've designed that's currently on orbit. Two of my resistojet rockets were used in some private satellites that were launched late last year."
Josie refused to hide her pride. Her family was proud of her achievements even if they didn't understand them. It was why she was here, to continue making them proud of her. She and her brother had had a dream and she was going to fulfil it if she could.Ā
"That's impressive. Have you considered applying for a role in the Tracy Industries aeronautical department? I'm sure we are always in need of people with your kind of skills."
Josie took a deep breath. She wanted to believe Mr Tracy. Every engineer wanted a job at Tracy Industries, it was considered one of the industry leads and had fantastic employee benefits. The company was known worldwide for taking care of its workforce, but she had never made the cut. Neither did she believe this man would remember her beyond today. It was time to end this conversation and see if anyone here might actually be interested in hiring an engineer. Josie met his gaze and prepared to say her piece.Ā
"I have applied for various aeronautical and astronautical roles at Tracy Industries since graduating. I've been called to interview twice, one at the European branch in Germany and another at the Japanese branch. Both times I was turned away for lack of experience. The Japanese branch didn't believe I would fit in with the company's culture and the European job was given to the son of one of the employees. It appears that Iā€™m currently not what Tracy Industries is seeking. Itā€™s been interesting talking with you Mr Tracy, but I have just spotted someone that I would really like to speak with, so if youā€™d kindly excuse me. Have a pleasant rest of the evening.ā€Ā
Josie turned and strode away from Mr Tracy. She headed into the crowd, not looking back, keeping her eyes open for the people she'd flagged on the short guest list she had managed to obtain. There were representatives here that might help get her into the industry. Not that she wouldn't stop applying to Tracy Industries jobs, a girl could dream, but she was realistic. Josie knew she had to work her way up and she needed to make the right contacts.Ā
****
Scott watched Josie walk away. She weaved into the crowd and disappeared from his sight. Gordon had lucked out and this bet was going to be harder than he thought. Miss McNelly may be nervous, but there was something beneath her words and her guard was up. He would have to change his approach, and unfortunately, he couldn't use Tracy Industries as bait. Josie wanted a job and she seemed to believe Tracy Industries didn't want her. Even if he could promise her a job, he was sure she wouldn't believe him. Scott was so used to women warming to him, swooning over his smile, and in many cases excited by the prospect of spending the evening with someone from International Rescue. Josie hadn't even mentioned it or made an indication that she knew he was part of the elusive organisation. Scott headed to the bar and ordered another scotch. He lent against the polished wood, swirling the drink in thought. He had to get her to lower her guard, to open up. His eyes hit the crowd and he sighed. Scott knew he was going to have to take the plunge.Ā
Almost an hour later and Scott hadn't been able to get close to Miss McNelly. He'd glimpsed her but being in the crowd meant he had to be polite to the other attendees, especially those who the company did business with. Duty called without the usual klaxon that echoed through the villa. Although Scott did want to be rescued from the current conversation; fisheries in the Atlantic were more Gordon's realm. He inspected the room, going from head to head in search of Miss McNelly. He easily spotted Gordon, standing next to Lady Penelope who was conversing with a young businessman. At least his brother wasn't having much luck either. Continuing, he spotted Mr Sandip with whom he'd had a pleasant conversation with at a previous gala. Excusing himself, Scott headed over to the man, but as he neared, Scott got a glimpse of whom he was talking to. Josie's hands were moving as she described something, and as he stepped up to the pair, he could hear the enthusiasm in her voice. There was a sparkle in her grey eyes that hadn't been there previously.Ā
"Mr Tracy! How good to see you again? How have you been?"
Mitchell Sandip had spotted him out of the corner of his eye and had turned to offer him a hand, which Scott took with a smile.Ā
"I'm very well, thank you, though I wasn't expecting to see you here."Ā
"Yes, well, the representative from the engineering department that was meant to attend became unwell. With so few people free to come, I drew the short straw. Though, seeing you has greatly improved my night."
Scott laughed at the accountant, his friendly demeanour had charmed Scott last time they had met.Ā
"Now, Mr Tracy, have you met Miss McNelly? She has quite the head for numbers. Unfortunately, she's not after an accounting job otherwise I'd snap her up before anyone else could!"
Scott turned to the woman in question, eyebrow raised. Head for numbers, well she was an engineer. He watched her straight up and nod politely at him.Ā
"I'm rather good with calculations.ā€
Mitchell's hand landed on Scott's arm, drawing his attention away from Miss McNelly. The shorter man's hazel eyes peered up at him full of excitement.
"She's being incredibly modest, Mr Tracy. I was certain someone was pilfering funds, and after a week I managed to work out who and how, but I hadn't mentioned it to anyone yet. Iā€™ve just finished collecting all the evidence and sent it to HR. Well, I was just discussing yearly finances with Mr Yang over there, and I was just throwing a lot of numbers about, as you do, trying to show off, when Miss McNelly pipes up saying my calculations are wrong. I told her they weren't, and she said they had to be unless someone was swindling money. I was shocked that she could work it out like that, then she rattled off her calculations faster than anything. Like I said, I hadnā€™t told anyone and Miss McNelly here was able to work it out in minutes. Obviously, I had to confirm this wasnā€™t just a one off, so Mr Yang and I rattled a few numbers off, and Josie performed the calculations there and then. All in her head and fast as can be. It was incredible!"
Scott turned with Mitchell back to Miss McNelly. There was a proud smile on her face, even if he could see that she was still nervous. Her fingers were playing gently with the hem of her jacket.Ā
"I've always been fast with numbers."
"Are you certain you don't want to be an accountant?"
Miss McNelly laughed, a blush coming to her cheeks.Ā
"As I told the Professor during my interview at Cambridge, when he asked why I was pursuing a career in engineering over mathematics; for me mathematics is easy. I don't want to be bored. I want to be challenged."Ā
A cheeky grin graced Josie's lips, obviously warming to Mitchell's easy charm. It was hard not to smile around Mitchell, the man had a unique manner that just set people at ease.Ā
"How about a drink then?"Ā
ā€œFantastic idea, Mr Tracy. Iā€™m sure Miss McNelly is in need of one too.ā€
Scott beckoned over a waiter, who swiftly moved around the other attendees to reach them.Ā
"I'll have a sherry, if you don't mind."
"I'll have a Scotch please. What would you like, Miss McNelly, another mojito?"
Josie hesitated a moment and seemed to become uneasy, her fingers returning to her hem.Ā
"Another mojito would be lovely, thank you."Ā
"Is that all?"
"Yes, thank you."
Scott dismissed the waiter, still intrigued by Miss McNelly. There was so much to uncover, and although he was starting to feel that he'd be cleaning the pool next week, he hadn't given up. Mitchell was just the person he needed to help break down those walls of hers.
"So, a Cambridge graduate then? I've a friend who did engineering at Cambridge university."
"Yes, it's a fantastic institution. It took me a year to find my feet, but I thrived once I did. Did you visit your friend while he was there?"
Scott chuckled slightly at the thought of visiting Brains at university. His father hadn't met the man yet and he would have been a kid himself.Ā
"No, I never got the chance."
"That's a shame. It's like a world of its own. All the best equipment within old buildings and traditions which go back centuries. Although it was fun at the start, with all the formal dinners and dressing up in your gown, it does get a little mundane after the umpteenth time. Sure, it's a three course meal with wine from some excellent chefs, but you can't eat that rich food every day and it's expensive. I could keep myself fed and watered for a week for the price of two evening meals!"
"I must admit, I didn't make the best decisions when it came to food during my first years in the Air Force."
Scott thought back to the instant noodles and takeaways he'd indulged in on the weekends. The freedom that came with not having to eat Grandma's home cooking had been liberating. Though he did eventually learn to cook a few simple dishes during his time in the Air Force.Ā
"Most of us make bad choices at university. It comes with being young and free."Ā
There was a sadness in her tone and her face dimmed slightly. What mistakes had this woman made that she regretted? Did it have something to do with the guard she hid behind? She put on a forced smile, and he knew he had to keep her engaged. Unfortunately, Lady Penelope and Gordon decided to make their entrance to the group.Ā
"Oh! Why hello Lady Penelope, and you areā€¦."
Mitchell held out his hand to Gordon, who shook it with his usual amount of enthusiasm. Out of the corner of his eye, Scott caught the movement of Miss McNelly's hand. She was once again fiddling with her jacket.Ā
"Gordon Tracy."
"Ahhh, Mr Tracy's brother. I see the resemblance now."
Scott hid his laugh behind a grin, though he caught Miss McNellyā€™s eyes darting between him and Gordon. He wondered if she was picking up on the same resemblance. Scott watched as Lady Penelope, and then Gordon, introduced themselves. The drinks they had ordered arrived, and Scott noted the way Miss McNelly took a tentative sip of the drink. The small talk started, though Scott caught the small sips she took frequently, as a way to keep herself busy. She was definitely out of her element, which might explain why her guard was up. He listened in, gaining snippets of information about the woman. Gordon was keen to keep her chatting, probably as a way of distracting her from him, thus improving the chances Scott was going to lose the bet. After a while, Miss McNelly politely excused herself. Scott watched as she headed in the direction of the bathrooms, he hoped that meant sheā€™d be back.Ā
ā€œMiss McNelly is quite the interesting character, donā€™t you think Scott?ā€
Scott could see the small grin on his brother's face and the gleam in his eye that revealed to Scott the hidden meaning. Gordon thought the bet was his and heā€™d gotten out of his chore. Another business associate of Tracy Industries joined their group and stole Scottā€™s attention. Miss McNelly never returned.Ā

Finally getting away from yet another business proposal, Scott headed to the bar where Gordon was perched. He lent against it and turned to survey the room with his brother.Ā
"No success then?"
"As much as you've had with Lady Penelope."
Scott's eyes fell on Miss McNelly. She was chatting with Mitchell again. Maybe he still had a chance. Turning to the bartender he ordered a Scotch and mojito. Gordon raised his eyebrow at the order.Ā
"One last chance. I'm not going to give in that easily."
Scott grabbed the drinks and headed toward Miss McNelly. She'd just shaken hands with Mitchell and the man had turned to chase down someone on the other side of the room. He took a breath and turned on the charm.Ā

Josie watched Mr Sandip hurry after someone and smiled to herself. He'd promised to pass on her details to recruitment. She was feeling beat but was pretty pleased with her efforts. She'd sold her company and thrown out a few business cards. Hopefully she'd made her mark. The whole event hadn't been as bad as she'd expected, though that one alcoholic drink had eased her nerves a little. She was happy to have been able to keep it to one. Glancing at her watch, she confirmed it was late and she still had some travelling to do. It was time for her to leave.Ā
"Miss McNelly, care to have a drink with me?"
Dread filled her as the familiar voice spoke from behind. Turning she immediately noticed Mr Tracy was standing between her and the exit. She took a deep breath. In the man's hands were two drinks: an amber spirit and a mojito. Her breath caught in her throat, the situation bringing her back to a night she wanted to forget.
"You got me a drink?"Ā
She stared at the glass. She suspected it had alcohol in it, having ordered one in front of him, but what else did it contain? She couldn't confirm it wasn't spiked. Would he do that sort of thing? Save people one day, drug them the next? Rich people never made sense to her though. They defied logic.Ā
"I thought we could chat a little more."Ā
He held out the mojito, forcing Josie to make a choice. Did she trust the man? She looked up into his face. He had a warm smile that met his eyes and she wanted to trust him. She wanted so much to believe he was a good guy. But her fear was there, deep inside as it always was, and she couldn't. She smiled at him as she reached out her right hand and plucked the glass of what she hoped was scotch, from his grip. Josie kept her eyes locked on his as she raised the glass to her lips. The amber liquid was not one she'd tried before, probably a vintage out of her price range. She was thankful it wasn't peaty; she hates those. His mouth dropped in shock as he looked at the cocktail in his hand. Josie couldnā€™t help the smile as she fought not to laugh. She let the liquid roll over her tongue and down her throat.Ā
"I'm Scottish and it's the end of the night. You never asked me what I wanted."Ā
She locked eyes with him as the shock faded from his face. Mr Tracy glanced down at the cocktail briefly, indecision in his eyes. Josie was still on edge, ready to step back if she had to. She decided to test the water.Ā
"Take a sip. The mojitos here are the best."
Josie challenged him. If he refused to drink it then it must be spiked. If it wasn't, there was no reason not to take a sip. His hand stayed where it was.Ā
"I'd rather the scotch."
"This scotch is mine now, and you don't want to waste that drink now, do you?"
****
Miss McNelly's face was serious. Scott felt slightly uncomfortable under her scrutinizing gaze. It was a challenge. For some reason, she wanted him to drink the mojito. He hadnā€™t expected her to take his drink and she had sipped it without grimacing. Never before had he met someone who acted as she did. Most people wanted to know more about him, most pestered about International Rescue, but not Miss McNelly. It felt like she had never warmed to him, even if she had seemed better and more relaxed during their conversation with Mitchell. Scott didn't want to drink the mojito; it was his most despised cocktail. What was this woman's game?Ā
"No, thank you."
"Fine."Ā
Scott was shocked again when Miss McNelly took the cocktail from him. What happened next, happened both at lightning speed and in slow motion. There was nothing Scott could do to stop it.Ā
"Thank you for the drink, but I don't appreciate the attention you've given me. I tried to make it clear I wasn't interested."
The cocktail glass was thrust in his direction, its contents flying out at him. Ice and mint hit his face as the sticky fluid started to soak into his shirt. As if that wasn't enough Miss McNelly stood on her toes, stretched up and poured the scotch into his hair. It trickled down his neck.Ā
ā€œIā€™m not interested.ā€
Miss McNelly stalked past him. Scott didn't know how to react. One part of him wanted to storm after her and demand an explanation, though that would probably make things worse. This is what he gets for accepting a silly bet. He turned on his heel and headed towards the exit. Gordon was sitting at the bar and the smirk on his face became laugher as Scott approached. His brother was struggling to stay in his stool.Ā
"I'm calling it a night."
"Sure Scottā€¦.I look forward...to watching you...clean the pool." Gordon gasped between spasms of laughter.Ā

Josie bolted. She started running once she had heard the door shut. She didn't stop, not looking back and running as fast as she could to the nearest light rail station. Fear was a great motivator, and she didn't slow until she was on the platform where she gasped for breath. Josie had never been a runner. She hated it. Her eyes never left the entrance until she was on the train. Only then could she start to relax. Once in the carriage the tears started to fall. Sheā€™d overreacted. She'd made a scene. Her body shook. How stupid could she be? Slipping her phone out of her jacket she swiped up her call history and tapped the first person on the list.Ā

Josie lay back on the bench. It was around the corner from the hostel sheā€™d booked for the night. The cheapest way to stay in London was to share a bunk bed with a stranger. There was no way she could have a private conversation in a room of sleeping people, and this random street bench was the easiest option. If there was ever someone she needed right now, it was her best friend Graham. His thick Scottish accent rang out from her phone.Ā
ā€œSeriously Josie, ye need to stop seeing every man as a potential threat. Cannae a man just be polite?ā€
ā€œI donā€™t suspect all men, just the ones that make me feel uncomfortable.ā€
ā€œYe said this guy was Scott Tracy, right?ā€
ā€œYes.ā€
ā€œScott Tracy, the Commander of International Rescue and pilot of Thunderbird One?ā€
ā€œMaybe, I canā€™t remember which one flies which.ā€
ā€œHold on, ye can list every damned fact available about the Thunderbirds, but ye cannae tell me who pilots them?ā€
ā€œYou sound like my brother! Why should I care who flies the Thunderbird? I want to know how they fly!ā€
Graham rolled his eyes, and Josie couldnā€™t help but laugh at him. She twisted onto her front, her arm aching from holding her phone in the air.Ā
ā€œWell, Iā€™ve looked him up and I think ye would have been safe to drink that mojito. Although Iā€™ll admit that he probably was hitting on ye. According to the gossip blogs he has picked up the odd girlfriend from events like that. Not that they last long, with him spending most of his time savin' people. If ye hadnā€™t been so aggressive ye could be heading back to Scotland with a great story! Imagine being able to say ye slept with the pilot of Thunderbird One!ā€
ā€œA. I prefer Thunderbird Three. B. Iā€™d rather spend the night with Thunderbird One herself. C. If Iā€™d known, I would have given him your number.ā€
Josie stuck her tongue out, only to watch Graham contort his face in response. They both ended up in a fit of giggles.Ā
ā€œAt least ye still have a good story for the next campfire. Many girls have slept with Mr Thunderbird One, but I doubt many can claim they threw a drink in his face.ā€
A groan left Josie as she placed her forehead against the wood, breathing in its damp musk. She was never going to forget this and once itā€™d been passed round the town, it would definitely make its way to work. They would never let her go to another event again.Ā
ā€œIā€™m an idiot. The whole night was pointless. No one is going to want to hire me now.ā€
ā€œDefinitely an idiot. They only let those into private schools.ā€
Josie scowled at her friend, though she was fighting a smile. It was an old joke, one that Graham used when she needed to see perspective. It reminded both of them how far they had come. Even if Josie was still stuck in Scotland. She yawned at the same time as the fifteen-minute warning was announced on Grahamā€™s end.Ā
ā€œLooks like weā€™re both in bunks tonight.ā€Ā
ā€œRighty-ho. G'night Josie.ā€
"Gā€™night Grey.ā€
Josie was just about to end the call when Graham decided to get the last word in.Ā
ā€œAnd Jo, FYI Gordon Tracy pilots Thunderbird Four.ā€
Josie glared at him. The last thing she heard was Grahamā€™s laughter as the screen went black. Cradling her phone in her hand, she stared at it, before turning her head to the sky. She couldn't see the stars that she knew were there. Josie may not have her dream job, yet, but Graham always reminded her of how lucky she was.
