I am Machine Character Headcanons-
Lefty Alec Roberts Helpy
Alec Roberts (Protagonist of Lonely Freddy)
15 years old, soul is completely confined to a Lonely Freddy (he can't break free without the use of magic).
Over some time, he has gotten use to the body and is able to move easier, in the beginning, he really struggled to walk but now he can do things quicker.
Mouth moves when he talks but his voice is projected from the speaker, it sounds like it's coming though a radio when he talks (it nearly scared him to death when he heard it for the first time as he thought he might never be able to talk again).
Personality changed since Lonely Freddy, he is more anxious, depressed and afraid. But he slowly opens up to Lefty and Helpy.
Alec admittedly feels abandoned by his family, he reasons they should have known him well enough to be able to tell the differences between him and an imposter, and because they can't tell the difference he feels alone.
Alec is not in a good mental place, he keeps questioning why he did certain things and sometimes reasons he “deserved what happened to him”, other times he gets angry at himself, then promptly breaks down crying because he remembers he lost everything and he can only blame himself.
Alec was initially afraid of the robots, he reasoned they could kill him so he never risked getting near them until he was discovered by accident (he fell asleep by accident, he thought he couldn't sleep anymore).
Alec already had trouble sleeping (insomnia+nightmares) which carried over when he was body swapped, Lefty is helping him manage with that so he can sleep the whole night without having a nightmare.
Alec doesn’t like talking about the “bin” or the other Lonely Freddy's, it makes him scared and depressed (low key would present some behaviours of person suffering from PTSD), it gives him creepy nightmares from time to time (imagine the Toy Story 2 nightmare scene, they are kind of similar).
Alec doesn’t like the dark or cramped spaces because they remind him of the bin, he also doesn’t like being a place where he can’t escape.
There are moments where his old personality seeps though and when he gets angry at Lefty or Helpy, he immediately feels bad despite them not really caring if he gets angry at them.
Alec has dysgraphia (he has messy handwriting and takes an extremely long time to write clearly, he was never diagnosed), Alec just thinks he has really bad handwriting until Lefty observes him writing one day and asks him “Do you have dysgraphia?” and Alec immediately asks what the hell that is with Lefty explaining he has clear symptoms of it.
Alec has a sort of hard time asking for emotional support, especially from the animatronics of all people, but it comes to the point where Alec regularly tells Lefty what's on his mind, because he's never really had emotional support, so he wasn’t open to the idea of talking until Lefty assured him he did want to help him and he would listen, and that's all Alec wants, somebody to listen to him.
Alec slowly finds he's becoming a better person around Lefty and Helpy, with Lefty assuring him that everything he did is able to be fixed as long as he wants to fix it (which he does want to). Lefty essentially wants Alec to not loose his hope.
Lefty
He is programmed to embody a caring meteor role for kids, unlike the other animatronics, Lefty can provide insightful advice (with a strange twist sometimes).
Lefty's personality is honest (can be brutal at times), loyal, kind, caring, attentive but he can also get angry if provoked enough.
Lefty believes in second chances for people who deserve it (that's why he wants to help Alec).
Lefty can perform magic, his specialities include “Good Luck” spells, Soul reformation (restoring a soul temporarily to their correct/previous form), feeling the presences of a Soul/Evil entity and generating a shield to protect himself or another person he cares for.
Lefty is the most intelligent out of everyone (he's also slightly more advanced), when he was created, he was created with the intention for him to constantly learn from experience and that ultimately shaped his personality whereas the other robots were already given personalities.
Lefty can pick up on things, examples: he can sense Alec's soul as a human, he can read certain behaviours that are linked to mental illnesses, he can sense if a child is afraid of their parents (which to him, means abuse or neglect is happening, which Lefty doesn’t stand for).
Lefty has a knowledge of fixing robots but doesn’t call on it unless necessary. Yes Lefty can feel a sensation like pain or discomfort when his exoskeleton is effected by something (i.e. broken part, disconnected joint).
Lefty also builds little things that he uses frequently, he built a pocket watch that contains his own version of an illusion disk which can give him a human form if he has it on his person, he also used magic and mechanics to build a pair of visor goggles that block hypnosis (he made a pair for himself, Helpy and Alec).
Lefty is super alert, if he's in a party room and hears a kid screaming from the front of the pizzeria, he will get there quicker than you can say “Fazbear”.
Lefty's go to drink is usually coffee but he has like twenty different teas on a shelf in the communal area (his favourite teas being chamomile, rooibos, lavender, black tea and peppermint, he also doesn’t mind occasionally having a chai latte).
Lefty has a routine of patrolling the back rooms during the day.
His usual schedule is as followed:
—Wake at about 12:00 pm afternoon.
—Ready to start working by 1:00 pm after a coffee.
—First patrol of the day before he starts entertaining.
—Lunchtime before showtime at 3:00 pm.
—Second patrol at about 4:00 pm.
—Third patrol at 7:00 pm.
—Final patrol at 9:30 pm (just before closing time)
—10:00 pm, time to eat something.
—Either going to his room or standing near Prize Corner (He is physically there but he isn’t mentally present, he is deep in thought but can be brought back easily into reality).
—12:00 am (Midnight) usually does a few rehearsals.
—1:30 am Bedtime.
Or if he needs to be awake at opening time:
—9:00 am wake up.
—Ready for opening time at 11:00 am.
—First patrol at 1:30 pm after he has lunch.
—Second patrol at 3:30 pm after showtime.
—Third patrol at 7:00 pm.
—Last patrol at closing time.
—Eat something at 10:00 pm.
—Bedtime at 11:00 pm.
Lefty is both the oldest and biggest robot, he was technically completed last but was started first and they calculate his age based on the mental age he displays, which is 30s to 40s.
Lefty is a skilled fighter, he is programmed to automatically disarm a person if they have a weapon with the intent to hurt, Lefty has done this a total of 10 times over the years.
In regards to the last point, Lefty does cause injures often if he disarms someone, he doesn’t think about it and his programming just automatically says: “DISARM AND ARREST”. He often breaks the person's fingers, wrist or elbow if they don’t surrender easily. Anything to protect the children.
Needless to say: Lefty is protective of children and with Alec, he's extremely protective and doesn’t want to put him in danger, he knows that it's dangerous for him because he's small enough to go missing easily and with his soul in the wrong body, it's more likely some monster will take the chance to kill him and steal his soul. Lefty prefers if Alec is either: in his vision or with Helpy, Freddy, Security, Chica or Foxy because he can confirm they won’t take their eyes away from him for a moment.
Lefty is an empath and mirrors intense emotions as if he is the one experiencing them.
Relating to emotion, if Lefty sees Alec crying, he immediately goes to comfort him, it isn’t a particular response just for Alec as Lefty tries to comfort any crying kid but Lefty has been informed by Alec he really didn’t get a lot of attention (that's what sparks his hatred of Alec's parents), which is why whenever Alec obviously needs somebody to listen, Lefty will drop whatever he is doing and listens because he wants Alec to realise he does matter.
Lefty doesn’t sing a lot but his singing voice is quite soothing.
Lefty usually plays classical and jazz instruments like the piano, trumpet, drums, saxophone, cello, trombone among other random instruments he can play well.
Lefty has a flame thrower and he's not afraid to use it.
Lefty is the one who can see in the dark the best.
Relevant to Lonely Freddy: Lefty was hypnotised by one prior to the events of the story but he managed to snap himself out of it by stabbing himself in the eye, permanently blinding himself in one eye, he also saw one had hypnotised a girl but he interferes in the encounter and saves her from being body swapped, at that point, he is unaware they can body swap and only learns once he meets Alec and connects the dots.
He can talk to Marionette, who has a psychic connection with him.
Lefty is the robot who acts the most like his creator Henry Emily with him tinkering to keep himself from going bored, reading a lot and usually being independent (there are a lot of things Lefty does that directly compare to Henry).
Helpy
Obvious: Helpy's colour palette is loosely based on Funtime Freddy, but he isn’t as boisterous.
Helpy basically has the height of a young child, he is slightly taller than a Lonely Freddy.
Helpy usually likes to look on the bright side of things.
Helpy isn’t out and about in the pizzeria frequently during the day because he was kicked across the dining room by a teenager and he crashed directly into Freddy who was performing on stage, both of them were injured and disoriented, Helpy only vaguely remembers how badly Lefty lost his temper at the teenager (Lefty was threatening and screaming).
Helpy is friendly overall, he's also smarter than he looks.
Helpy aids Mike at night if he requires.
Helpy sometimes keeps the robots on alert by practicing certain situations where a child is in danger (he pretends he's a child) and the animatronics must response correctly (i.e. if a kidnapping is occurring, they must intercept the child and apprehend the suspect, then wait for police).
Revelant for Alec: Alec sees similarities between Helpy and Hazel, Helpy is unaware some of his behaviours remind Alec of his sister.
When Helpy gets scared, his usual reaction is to find Lefty and stay near him.
Helpy loves sweet items but if he consumes too much sugar, he gets extremely moody and tired (imagine Lefty trying to get him to sleep but Helpy is acting really cranky that Lefty is trying to force him to sleep, Lefty either uses magic to make him sleep or just leaves him be).
Helpy can also get angry when he's tired.
Essentially Lefty and Helpy's friendship dynamic balances between “brothers” and a “father/son” relationship, Helpy describes Lefty as his best friend.
Like Alec, Helpy can get into small spaces.
Helpy does a little happy dance when he's really excited, like the one in pizzeria simulator here:
Hazel Roberts
Alec's younger sister, ten years old (Hazel's birthday is in April somewhere whereas Alec's birthday is confirmed as being on August 18th).
She's in two minds about “Alec” (Lonely Freddy-Imposter), while she's glad he gets along with her, the way that it happens... feels extremely unnatural to her, she’s sort of suspicious but not enough to just have an occasional thought of why does he do certain things now, if she had more concrete evidence.... she'd know he is an imposter and the real Alec's been missing for a while.
Over the years, she'd tried to observe Alec's interests and hopes she can use the information to get him to like her (The Yarg Foxy toy is relevant to this).
She has gone into Alec's room while he's not around, but she doesn’t disturb anything, worried her brother would immediately know she's been in there.
Hazel's a gerenous girl, and her wish is to have her brother as a friend and have her parents love him.
Hazel sometimes wears her hair in pigtails.
Hazel has had nightmares that make zero sense to her, but to someone like Lefty and Alec, the nightmares are clear warnings that an imposter has infiltrated her life.

Gilmore Girls
Lorelai & Her Parents
At 16 Lorelai was rebellious against anything her parents did or said & she’s the same way even in Year in the Life where she’s in her late 40’s. She has zero open communication with her mom...still.
She never listens to her parents, avoids their calls, tries to get her daughter to be the go between on several occasions.
Lorelai whines, bitches & moans about her parents being the root of all evil. The way she talks we would expect them to be Joseph Stalin (a comparison she made herself in that magazine interview about the Inn).
However, we never see or hear anything that bad about her parents. Nothing unforgivable. They’re just normal loving parents who have strong opinions & are sometimes pushy.
Lorelai gave birth to Rory when she was 16. No parent would be thrilled at the idea their child just made their lives considerably more challenging for themselves. Parents generally want their kids to have better lives than they had.
In flashbacks we see Richard & Emily being good parents. Posh & proper they took parent in lots of events & rituals Lorelai didn’t like. Such as sitting for a portrait & wearing fancy dresses etc
Lorelai’s seen joking with Christopher & in good spirits. She’s not traumatized or being abused in any way.
We never see them being cruel, angry, or abusive to her. They definitely wanted her to follow suit. To do what they say...to listen...and to learn from them.
Lorelai rejected all of that. She’s not good at any of those things.
However they still seemed like good parents. Great even.
When they realize Lorelai’s pregnant they are shocked & disappointed. Immediately they jump into protective mode. Richard suggests helping Chris join the family & the kids could get married... his attempt to salvage her reputation. He knows how cruel people can be especially from the upper class elites whom of which can be petty.
Both Richard & Emily want to fix the mistake so they jump in. Christopher even said he wanted to marry Lorelai & he seemed excited about having the baby. Lorelai just looked annoyed at all of it.
We also see that she pushes them away again & again.
When she goes to the hospital alone they rush to be by her side. And she still acts annoyed. They wanted to help someone they love & she was annoyed!
In the flashbacks we see that Lorelai & baby Rory were living with Richard & Emily for at least a few weeks. Her parents seemed to be okay with the living situation.
A nice house, no rent, all expenses paid, and they mentioned a nanny...to which Lorelai felt she had to escape. What??
Seriously, she wanted zero help from everyone & anyone. That’s not just being independent that’s being blinded by pride.
And after her parents did everything for her, Lorelai runs away with baby Rory.
That’s completely selfish. I could imagine how painful that would be for her parents.
To make matters worse, it’s said several times in the early part of the series that Emily never got to see how Lorelai raised Rory...and that they barely ever got see or talk to Rory when she was little.
In fact, the first interaction we see of Rory & her grandparents it’s like Rory doesn’t know them. It’s like they’re being introduced to each other.
So...basically Lorelai didn’t try to have her parents involved in Rory’s life. She didn’t encourage a relationship with them - that is so incredibly spiteful & selfish.
When Emily finally meets the owner of the Independence Inn we see that she was upset about all that missing time. She didn’t have pictures of Lorelai or Rory during that time. It’s so...sad.
Season one has Rory getting into Chilton & it’s an excuse for her parents to get involved in their lives. They see it as an opportunity to get to know Rory. They pay for Chilton in exchange for Friday night dinners.
Even though they made a deal & Lorelai gave her word to have weekly dinners with her parents she still tries throughout the series to get out of them. It’s so rude & she’s so ungrateful.
Lorelai always whines about the dinners. But they were good! They get nice food, sit in comfort & have good company. She often looks like she’s having fun but later complains about them. There were only a handful of bad dinners in the series with her parents.
So why did she always complain about them?
Because she’s ungrateful for everything her parents did for her.
Good things Richard & Emily did for Lorelai:
* They raised her in a loving, stable home
* She had a good education
* They taught her good morals
* She was always fed & taken care of
* They tried to help when she was pregnant & provided support once the baby was born
* In season 1, Lorelai hurts her back & Emily takes care of her
* They paid for Chilton & Yale
* Their only request (or as Lorelai called it they ‘demanded’) to spend time with their daughter & grand daughter in exchange for the schools’ tuition.
* Despite not being invited by their daughter (because Lorelai assumes they wouldn’t want to go), both Richard & Emily attend Lorelai’s college graduation as the proudest parents in the world.
* They bought Rory an over the top high school graduation gift- a car- to which Lorelai barely thanked them.
* Richard taught Rory to golf & showed her around the country club.
* Richard was a mentor for a school project of Rory’s
* Emily encouraged Rory several times to make friends with her classmates
* Emily encouraged school involvement to help make those friends & for college. She stated something along the lines that it would help for everything.
* They remain friendly with Christopher (Rory’s father) even though he’s rarely around & they don’t like the fact he & Lorelai never got married. They know it’s important to be civil as he’s Rory’s father & they hope eventually the situation would improve.
* Emily is super nice to Jess upon their first meeting even though she thinks Rory is too good for him. She kept her opinion to herself, except when she had a private conversation with Lorelai.
* Emily helps Rory navigate parties & the DAR, making sure her grand daughter would be prepared for life of the upper society instead of leaving her to flounder.
* Emily prints out a list of tips for ways in which Rory can avoid getting stabbed in prison (during her community service)
* Richard defends Rory’s honour when he realizes Mitchum Huntzberger had upset her.
* Likewise Emily gives a great verbal thrashing to Shira Huntzberger in response to the woman having humiliated Rory
* Even when he’s not speaking with Lorelai, Richard helps take care of the insurance at the Dragonfly Inn.
* There were lots of warm family exchanges between them & Rory. Some warm exchanges between them & Lorelai too.
* When Rory ran to her grandparents, breaking down & basically begged them for help, they gave it to her. They took care of her.
* When Rory got arrested they never gave her a hard time or judged. They tried to help.
* They were still open to Logan being in Rory’s life even though his parents treated her poorly.
Not so good moments of theirs:
* Richard breaks business ties with Digger, going behind his back & working for his father
* Richard manipulates the situation so that while visiting Yale Rory has a meeting with the dean
* Emily throws the Yale (boys) party to try to get Rory to meet someone new as she’s too good for Dean (it worked, because she was too good for him)
* When they feared for Rory’s ‘virtue’. Old fashioned, yes. They felt her being a virgin until marriage was the way to go so they set up an awkward dinner with a pastor to talk sense into her. Good intentions but it was none of their business.
People have a lot of opinions about who was responsible for the rift between Lorelai & her parents.
What I think is this:
When Lorelai ran away with baby Rory, it was her fault. She took off, pushed them away & refused help.
Being rich & powerful, they could have won custody. All they had to do was get a private investigator to take pictures of the shed Lorelai & Rory were living in. Prove that Lorelai (who refused help from anyone) left Rory alone while she cleaned rooms at the Independence Inn.
It would be easy for them.
However, they didn’t do that. They actually gave Lorelai space & took what scraps of contact she was willing to give.
During the series (even with nothing triggering it) Lorelai pushes her parents away, bad mouths them, constantly hides big life events from them (her college graduation, not one but TWO engagements! , etc)...and she humiliated Emily by giving that mean interview about her when she should have talked about the Dragonfly Inn.
However, when Richard betrayed Digger, that caused tension. When he forced Rory to talk to the Yale Dean, it caused a rift. Not approving of Luke caused tension but they still supported Lorelai even though they didn’t like him.
Supporting Rory’s decision to drop out of school was huge. They supported her, thinking it was the right thing. Then Richard laid it out for Lorelai (because Rory was too chicken shit to stand up for her mom more than once a year 🤷♀️) .
It was what Rory wanted but Lorelai felt it was all her parents’ fault, which wasn’t true.
Emily even tried to encourage Rory to talk to Lorelai a few times. Finally getting through to her with the invitations to her birthday party.
And Lorelai showed up to the party & acted like she wanted to kill them. Emily asked how Luke was & Lorelai jumped down her throat...and of course that was when we realized that again Lorelai didn’t tell her parents she was going to marry Luke.
Another knife wound.
Emily & Richard are critical but they also learn & evolve. They both are pragmatic so while Emily was underhanded in inviting Christopher to the vow renewal, I get it. Emily wanted to see if she can piece the family back together - choosing one of the few times where she’s getting along with Lorelai. She probably thought that if he saw Lorelai at a wedding he’d want to marry her & vice versa. Kill two birds with one stone.
Yes it was shitty because Lorelai was with Luke; however, if that had been a healthy relationship (there were lots of issues) it wouldn’t have imploded the way it did. Later when the two have a healthier relationship both Richard & Emily are more accepting of Luke.
Even during Emily’s emotional breakdown where she wanted to buy that plane she suggested that Lorelai & Luke can use it - showing at that point she’d accepted the relationship.
So who was to blame for the rift?
Both...but mostly Lorelai.
While I can understand the argument that she had been raised in a way she didn’t like, you can’t place blame on that.
Lorelai felt suffocated at 16 but she didn’t just need space, she wanted to cruelly ditch her parents.
You definitely can’t blame her parents for the way she acted towards them at 30-something. Because adults are responsible for themselves. You have issues with someone? Talk! Communicate! Even if that involves arguing.
Suck it up, address the issues then figure out how to fix it.
I feel like Emily & Richard did this a lot. They struggled sometimes but eventually they worked things out. But Lorelai kept pushing them away & shut them out of her life.
Even in Year in the Life. She still resented her father so much that she couldn’t remember a single good memory about him at the funeral. Then she acted angry at Emily when she was upset. Emily had every right to be.
They go to therapy because after all these years they can’t talk to each other. Still. Well, we know Emily is very vocal so who could be to blame? Perhaps the fact Lorelai was keeping her therapy from Luke was a bit telling.
In any case, whomever you blame for the problems, I think we all can agree it would have been nice if the show had more flashbacks so we can see why Lorelai resented and (at times) hated her parents.
Nothing I saw in the series was enough to be that angry with them & to run away or barely see them in 16 years. Were they stifling? Yes. Controlling? A little bit but parents often are. Annoying? Yes.
Abusive, cruel, mean, neglectful? No, no, no, and no.
In my family, we talk & occasionally yell. We don’t have to like what each other is doing but hey that’s family. But we do try to talk. Sometimes things come up that annoys us but we deal with it.
Lorelai’s family wasn’t perfect. That’s fine, but why wouldn’t she want to see them? Why would she take a situation about her neurotic mother & think it was funny to tell perfect strangers & to compare herself to a murdering dictator?
You have to be pretty heartless to do that...even if Lorelai didn’t realize it would be in print. I don’t care how annoyed I get I would NEVER talk about my parents like that.
So, why does Lorelai? What happened to her that she thinks this is okay? What (if any) shady things did her parents do to deserve something like that?
I wish the show could have shown us because the absence of information just feels like Lorelai is cruel & vindictive
I personally think Lorelai just never grew up. She acts immature even in later seasons so I believe she has the same mentality as she did when she was 16. She assumes several times the worst about her parents when the were just being straight forward or asking simple questions.
Like, for example, Rory’s invitation to her birthday party. Lorelai assumes it was a manipulation by Emily but her daughter was just reaching out to her. Instead of checking to see if she was actually welcome she - like a child - ignores it & would rather miss Rory’s birthday then deal with 2 minutes of awkwardness on the phone to get clarification. She just assumes there is no possible way she’d ever be wrong. Keep in mind at this point Lorelai is supposed to be around 38.
She’s not a child, she’s not naive nor stupid. She’s merely self involved. She thinks how she thinks, never bends, & can’t possibly comprehend the fact that her parents genuinely love her & try any means in which they can see her & their grand daughter.
In later seasons we can see how heartbroken her parents were still about missing out on Lorelai’s life. Emily starts making suggestions about adding onto the Dragonfly Inn, by having a spa attached. Lorelai brushes it off like it was nothing but Emily was reaching out to her because she was worried she wouldn’t want to do Friday night dinners again.
And we see in season 7, when the girls attend Mia’s wedding that Emily was still upset by the separation all those years ago. She’s civil while trying to hide her pain. Lorelai was completely oblivious to how upset Emily was. Rory points that out & eventually Lorelai actually understands.
Some people aren’t fans of season 7 but I loved that episode because it showed Emily’s vulnerability & pain and we actually got to see some growth between Lorelai & Emily!
Year in the Life completely shit all over that of course.
The series finale was alright regarding how Lorelai is with her parents. They were in a good place & she reassured her mom that Friday night dinners would continue. Meaning, she would still be in their lives.
I had no complaints about that. Though I still wish we saw more about their past.
What I had hoped to see in Year in the Life was a solid relationship with Lorelai & Emily. After all those years, why wouldn’t they have progressed?
We saw hints that when Lorelai would take her head out of her butt, she actually enjoys time with her parents. Such as having fun with Emily at that fashion show.
And a lot of people get annoyed at their family as teenagers but once they’re grown up & moved out, they have a good relationship with them.
I wanted, in the Year in the Life, for Emily & Lorelai to still have their banter but be friendly. Meeting up to shop occasionally & such. But instead they’re still in a bad place? After ten years...really?
Seeing that was exhausting. Even as a 40-something woman Lorelai acted like a spoiled brat. Like a teenager, and her mom then treated her like one. It was stupid & disappointing.

I saw you were a nickjune shipper, so i thought i'd ask you the question/questions going around!! 1.) What’s your favorite Nick & June scene? 2.) Which scene between them did you find most heartbreaking? 3.) Other than Nick or June, who is your favorite character on the show?
This has been sitting in my ask box for ages, but im finally ready to answer it!! (mostly because i kept kind of forgetting, sorry anon lol)
1 - Favourite Nick June Scene
There are so many scene between them that i LOVED, but i think I have a couple favourites that I can’t pick between.
The scene in season 1 where she actually tells Nick her name is one of my favourites of the whole series, not just between them. I think its such a meaningful moment for her to just be breaking down and so angry at the whole world and Nick is trying to be there for her and he calls her offred and she just cant take it anymore and angrily tells him not too, but what else could he call her? He has no idea what her real name is, but he can’t just call her nothing? It’s so heartbreakingly real between them in that moment. And then when he learns her real name, and he doesn’t just call her by her name, but he says ‘nice to meet you, June’. Because this is the moment when he truly meets the real her? AMAZING. (Gif by @skyshipper)
The second scene is the scene in the season 2 finale, when June is getting pushed to escape by Rita. She has little Holly/Nicole in her arms, and she’s got a chance to get out, but she just stops, and sees Nick out of the window, and almost waits for him. Like she loves him, so so much. They have a child together, a family. She knows she has to get out. She knows she needs to save herself and her child from this horrible world they’re trapped in. But she needs to know that it’s okay for her to get out without him. She needs to know that taking their child away is okay. That maybe never ever seeing him again is okay. And then he just looks at her, and you can see the love he has. He loves her SO very much. And he just… nods. Because he knows that she is worried that leaving him, about taking his daughter from him, not because she needs his permission but because she loves him and doesn’t want to be without him. It’s so beautiful and moving and my heart just broke. (Gif by @pegsccarter)
Them holding their baby together. Augh. The saddesst, most beautiful, loveliest moment on the whole show. Just standing there together, Nick finally really getting to meet his daughter, June finally telling him she loved him? My whole world was a mess during that scene. I was sobbing. Nick just softly talking to his little girl, June telling little Holly that this is her father. Not Fred, the horrible man who had taken her from her real parents, but Nick. This kind, good hearted soul, who protected June, and loved June, who tried to help June get free, this man is Hollys real father. They got to be a family, for just a brief little warm moment, in a small little bubble, and it was so beautiful.
The scene where Nick finds June in the rain. Seems like a weird choice, but it’s such a powerful moment for them. She has resigned herself to letting their baby die, letting herself die. She is outside, in the cold, she’s been bleeding for days, and somehow, the universe lets Nick find her. Nick saves her, and in doing so saves their child. Their child who was strong enough even then to survive this, when most babies would have been long lost to it. Nick finds his little family, broken and almost doomed, and saves them, and in doing so he gives June the strength to keep fighting. So sad, but also such a strong moment between them. (Gif by @pegsccarter)
2 - The most heartbreaking scene (Again i couldn’t pick just one haha) [Also, why are half of the heartbreaking moments between them also the happiest ones? Gosh this show is distressing and beautiful]
The most heartbreaking scene between them, for me, was probably the scene where she just broke down outside after Hannah left, and he just held her. I feel like its a pretty obvious one, but gosh watching her loose Hannah again, and then knowing that Nick is the only person in the whole world who is there for her anymore. Her fellow handmaids are there, but they can’t protect her. They can’t do anything more than she can. Rita is there for her, but she can only do so much. But Nick, Nick loves her, and she loves him, and he holds her while she goes through the worst loss of her life for the second time. It’s devastating and such a strong moment between them.
Another for me was when Nick told her about seeing Luke. It’s such a happy moment for June, and such a devastating moment for Nick, and that moment for me really proved to me that Nick was the perfect man for June. He didn’t have to tell her that Luke said he loved her. He could have said nothing. He could have only told her about Moira, or just about the letters, but he told her about Luke. He told her about the husband she lost, who she knew was alive, but probably always wondered how true it was. She hadn’t heard it from anyone who she really knew she could trust, and now she knows. And then he told her he loved her, and in that moment he gave her so much hope, on so many different levels. Hope for her own escape, hope to find her family again, and the hope that comes with finding love in such darkness and loss.
This scene was really beautiful but also just super sad for me because it was such a moment of like, hope mingled with clear understanding that its so unattainable. The two of them, talking about the future they want to have with their baby, on a beach, naming her what they wanted, holding her close and raising her to be the person they hoped she would be. It’s a fantasy, which they know is so unreachable, and its such a soft and warm happy moment between them but its just… laced with so much sadness. Augh.
The scene where Nick finds out June is pregnant is also so very sad. This moment between them should be so happy, especially in a world where having children is so rare. They aren’t quite ‘in love’ yet, but they are well on their way, especially Nick I think, but this moment between them is so ripe with just agony. They will probably never get to know their child. They wont get to raise their baby. They wont get to name their child, or hold them, or be their parent. Nick might get to spend his life watching her grow up, but June will be sent away to another family, and their baby will never get to know her, and even if the baby does know Nick, he will always just be their driver. He will just be… the guardian in their home. He wont get to be their father, and June wont get to be their mother. Its so devastating, and yet so full of joy somehow. In that moment, surrounded by the most horrible things in the world, they get one small moment where they get to just live, for a moment, in this warm little moment where they realise they made a life together.
3 - Favourite Character other than Nick/June
Again i feel like I should do a top (#) because its so hard to pick.
I love Rita. I didn’t really feel a lot for her in the early bits of the first season, because she wasn’t really given a lot to do, but as time went on, her righteous indignation at everything in her life in Gilead was just brilliant. She had so many amazing moments all through and I love her a lot. Her moments with June after Eden’s death were devastating. Her guilt at how she treated this girl, when she had no real reason to feel that way. They were all trapped in this horrible place, no one could ever blame her for being unwilling to try and be warm with Eden, but that moment of just pure human grief and guilt was so sad. And then all of her many moments with June and Nick, gosh i love Rita. She just wanted to keep June and Holly safe at any cost. She’s such a badass.
MOIRA. Gosh Moira. Resigned to the life as a handmaid, forced to be grateful for her status, like Emily, because she’s a gender traitor and should be glad she didn’t die? And then forced to work as a prostitute for the vile men of Gilead, who subjugate women and created this religious community and then violate all of the tenements of their world because they have the privilege, the wealth and the power and the gender to do so. She gets out. She gets free. And shes so close to giving up. She so close to just resigning herself to this life of loss and sadness, but then she gets to help. She gets to stand up to her abusers. She gets to be with Luke, who is the closest thing she has to family. Moira got away from the horrors of Gilead, and is going to get to help bring it down from the outside. Gosh I love Moira.
Emily is one of my favourite characters, especially into season 2 when we learned more about her backstory. She has such a strong soul, and so much ANGER inside her. I have such a huge place in my heart where I hold angry women, and Emily just fell right into that spot. She became a handmaid, and she was meant to be be grateful? Because as a lesbian she was lucky they didn’t kill her? She was meant to be grateful that her status as a fertile woman saved her life, separated her from her wife and son, and resigned her to a life of being raped and used as a broodmare? Instead she fought back. She killed people for her right to be a human being. She refused to go quietly to her doom. She stabbed Lydia in the back because her life was worth more. And now she gets to be free.
Alma. I wish we had more like, character building for her, but I really love her. Anytime she shows up I’m just thrilled to see her. She’s so strong, so beautifully resilient. She has been with June since the beginning of Gilead, and I’m so glad she still gets to be around and be a part of this resistance. I love love love Alma. I hope she gets out, I hope she gets free. She deserves more than this life. They all do.

Project Echo, Part 2: Chapter 31 (Berny Barton)
Part 2 Summary: A new enemy surfaces with a team of the Avengers’ greatest foes, hand-picked for their destruction. Meanwhile, Inessa’s pre-Hydra past begins to surface, casting doubt on where her loyalties truly lie.
Chapter 31: Berny Barton
"Trusting a man to kill his own brother," Sin eyed Berny and shook her head. He was busy prepping the vials of gray serum, but he still caught her in his periphery.
Berny flashed her a sarcastic smile and went back to work. Albatross and Ryker made the same fuss initially, he was used to it. Any second one of his new allies would- "There is no love between them, I assure you." there. He silently thanked Albatross.
"If I thought there were I would have killed him by now," Sin continued to sharpen her knives- though where she was pulling all of them from was anyone's guess. "There is a large gap between not loving someone and killing them. Morris is putting too much faith in a feud between siblings."
"He didn't break my favorite toy," Berny said calmly, "he shot me in the face, left me for dead, and killed most of my friends. He's as much an enemy to me as Natasha Romanoff or Bruce Banner are to Albatross and the good General there," he nodded to John, reading as always.
Sin set down her blade and faced Berny. He finished mixing the syringes- taking very specific quantities from each vial. Once he finished he set them down with the utmost care and faced her as well, "Are we gonna fight or have sex because one won't fly with our employer and the other he just might want to watch."
"Neither, if you please."
"Aw, c'mon Albatross. We can't let you be the only one having fun with the super-women."
Albatross' eyebrows arched, "Just what are you implying?"
"You knew Romanoff a very long time and she is, soon to be was, a very lovely lady. Surely you at least got a taste." he winked.
"She had the physical appearance of a ten year old, and the last time I saw her she'd aged nearly twenty years then promptly stabbed me three times. No, we were never intimate in any way."
"Bummer."
"We were talking about you and your brother, not the sexual history of some two-bit assassins."
"Those assassins are older than you, and they weren't frozen when Schmidt died." John spoke up again, "Respect your elders."
Berny faced Sin full-on, "If you want the story, fine. Just listen carefully because it's the last time I humor you. Then, if you still don't trust me, kill me. But make sure you have a damn good excuse for Morris and his boss."
"All I expect is truth," Sin smiled dangerously.
"Gather round kiddos," he said sarcastically, "it's story time."
"I dislike reruns, no offense," Albatross excused himself and left to find Cul. At least around him it tended to be quieter.
"Once upon a time, in the magical land of Nebraska..."
Marco didn't like thieves. Well- thieves who didn't work for him. When the guards found Trickshot, Clint's old mentor, sneaking around back anyone could see where it was going to end. A bullet through the face. Berny, only 14, sighed as the man was dragged in. He was the junior-most member of Marco's small crew. He would be the one cleaning up.
Bang! Berny began pulling off his suit jacket, best get started. He heard something though- a shuffle from the wrong direction, somewhere above them. Surely Trickshot wasn't stupid enough to bring a deaf boy along for a heist- he was exactly that stupid, sanctimonious old fool. Berny turned and shoved Marco as hard as he could- knowing full well if he was wrong his brains would join Trickshot's on the walls.
An explosion of pain wracked his skull almost immediately. He tried to cry out- his mouth was open- but he couldn't move his face. The agony was ungodly. He fell, turning as he did to see Clint staring down from a skylight, gaping. Marco's men opened fire and he fled.
Berny tried to feel the damage, his mouth hurt so much, there was too much blood. He gurgled and tried to get a full breath, close his mouth, anything. One of Marco's bodyguards puked nearby. When Berny's hand found the shaft of the arrow, he knew why.
It had pierced just below his left cheekbone, blasted through bone, gum, and the roof of his mouth, destroying a full section of his teeth. The arrow pinned his mouth open and continued down at a sharp angle, pinning down the corner of his tongue, more teeth and gums on the lower right side, and finally it emerged out of the lower edge of his jaw, through his neck. He felt sick. He felt cold.
Wherever Marco had him taken, it wasn't a normal hospital. The doctors both wore odd logos on their coats- a red octopus with a human skull. He woke long after the surgeries to repair his face and begin reassembling his teeth. Over the years he'd go on to have nearly a dozen surgeries and as many false teeth grafted in.
"Subject is waking up," the doctor was pretty, young. She had long, dark hair that swung down almost far enough to touch Berny's face as she leaned over him. When she spoke, it was with an accent he couldn't place- European certainly. She smiled at him and he tried his best to smile back. His jaw was wired shut, and most of his face and neck were bandaged. What he managed looked more like a grimace.
"Stay calm, it's-" a young male doctor came over and muttered something in what sounded like Russian.
"Alright," the woman translated. "We are doctors. You're in a Hydra field hospital on the way to Alaska."
Berny thought at first the shifting and swaying of the room was something to do with painkillers. Now he saw it all for what it was- the hospital was shipping containers on some boat.
"Your employer pulled a few strings to bring you here. He said to tell you he always rewards loyalty. You will meet with him once we reach port."
"Is there any way I would be let to persuade you having improved jawbone?" the man's grasp of English wasn't the greatest.
"Anton!" the girl snapped, "I told you already. He is not Hydra. We do not augment, only heal!"
"Emilia," he switched back to Russian to plead his case but she put a hand up.
"I'm medical doctor. You are scientific doctor. This patient is mine, not yours."
"I am bored! They bring me no projects here!"
"If you ever want to get to Astana you will have to learn to survive boredom! Winter Soldier is being deployed. He will rendezvous with us in Alaska for diagnostics after his mission. Play then!"
Anton merely grumbled and vanished from Berny's sight to an adjacent lab, "He is new," Emilia said, as if that explained everything.
Berny was kept comfortable for the remainder of the journey, but he had far too much time on his hands to drown in the dull, constant throbbing of his jaw and the memory of Clint's face. He'd spoiled the side job Swordsman and Berny had going, and now his mothering older brother actually tried to kill him! The ass had everything going for him- athleticism, good looks, even super-peepers! Sure he'd been stone deaf since the car accident, but his binocular vision made up for that pretty fucking well in Berny's book. He was always inferior to Clint, he was sick to death of it.
Emilia- Emilie in English- kept him company and monitored his healing. He couldn't speak with his jaw wired shut (the few times he tried he sounded just like Clint), so she carried the weight of the conversation. He caught Anton sneaking glances every now and then. Berny was only 14, but he recognized a crush, especially since Anton didn't seem to have any grasp of subtlety.
After a few days Berny waved goodbye and was taken by skiff across a narrow channel to a waiting car. An especially terrifying man in a mask with a metal arm took his place on the boat and Berny took his in the vehicle. The drive was short- Marco was waiting for him in the restaurant of a cheesy hotel, the 'Prospector Inn'. Damned place was one of the tallest buildings in the city at only 5 stories. Berny sat nervously across from his boss and waited patiently for him to speak.
"I wanted to express my gratitude to you, Berny- I believe that is your name?" Berny nodded slightly. "You risked your life to protect mine. That's loyalty of an impressive caliber. Anything you want you will have. Money, position, twenty stunning hookers and a week in Vegas- at your age that probably sounds the most attractive, yes?"
A goon handed Berny a pencil and a pad of paper to write his reply. I want to repay my brother, he pointed to the bandages on his face.
"I'll have my men fetch him for you."
Berny tapped the table as Marco turned to get his attention. Can't. He'll know you are coming. He has abilities, he pointed to his eyes.
"The world is seeing more and more of these freaks," Marco mumbled to himself. He considered it for a moment. He could use a kid like Berny. "I know low people in high places. They may be able to help you. My operations are far larger than you know, Berny. Serve me, and as your reward I will help you become powerful as well. Then, as your reward for the heroics, I will see that you meet your brother again and guarantee you will get to pluck those special eyes right out of his head."
Berny considered it for as long as it took to pick the pencil back up. Done.
Nearly a decade passed. Marco was the mastermind behind seemingly unrelated gangs all over the globe- a true emperor of crime. He helped Berny meet researchers, participate in dozens of experiments. Most didn't stick, but the ones that did not only brought him on-par with his brother, they took him even further. Suddenly though, his new friends began to fall. Marco went first- it was dismissed as gang violence. Next was Ivanovich, Castro, Hidaki, Chau, Rodriguez- someone was cleaning house and the upper echelon were on the target list. Berny too.
He saw them well before he was anywhere near visible to their average eyesight- men in suits and tactical gear bearing an eagle crest. He pushed his eyes to their limits to read the fine text around the outside of the icon- Strategic Homeland Intervention and Enforcement Logistics Division- SHIELD. They were the ones responsible for him losing his friends- the only family he recognized.
So Berny hunted SHIELD. At first it was sloppy guesswork- which associates they might go after. When he could, he killed. Like Marco, he quickly made low friends in high places. He eventually managed to track them with a certain degree of accuracy. He followed the heels of a trainee team to Belgium after some female assassin- but all he noticed was their leader.
Berny was a mile away using his enhanced vision to watch some guy and a cripple in a wheelchair scouting out a church from the roof of an adjacent building. The leader turned to watch as the assassin ran out of the church, stopped, and wandered down a side street. Berny's vision went red as soon as he saw the man's face. "Of course," he breathed. SHIELD was ruining his life and killing his friends- naturally among their ranks would be Clint fucking Barton. Sanctimonious piece of shit.
Berny barely resisted killing him then- he didn't have the tools he'd need- a bow or a sniper rifle. Clint would only finish what he started so long ago. Berny's face twinged with phantom pain. He needed the last serum- a sort of catalyst to take his powers to the next level. Then he'd be ready to eradicate the cancer that was his brother.
"Well? What next?" Sin waited.
Berny just shrugged, "One more year finding the drugs. Then I tucked it away somewhere safe until I could track down Clint again. One minute I'm sitting in a nice little Italian restaurant, the next thing I know I'm electrocuted and Clint's little assassin wench is throwing me into a cell. I had most of Marco's empire under my control, Clint could only evade my spies for a week, two tops, I had the last little push I needed to beat him," he held up the syringes, "then I'm rotting in a dark, cold cell that would make people in the stone age feel right at home. All because of Clint's girlfriend."
He waited to see if Sin was satisfied. She said nothing, but picked up her knife once again and went back to sharpening the blade. Ryker glanced over and shrugged. Berny rolled his eyes and settled back in the chair. Berny changed his mind- sex with this woman was out of the question. He wanted to fight the smug brat.
Save it for Clint.
