Most Used Weapon(s): Daedric war axe OR Dragonbone battle axe. Tei technically has both on them at all times during adventuring, alongside a shield, so which they used depends on the situation/which they grab fastest.

Combat Style: Two/One-handed tank. Main tactic is to rush in, cause as much damage/chaos as possible to shake up the opponent, & clean up what the ranged attackers of the party (usually Rumarin, Inigo and/or Lucien) weren't able to deal with.

Armor Type / Level In It: HEAVY ARMOR BABYYYYY (Level 100 + 35 extra points via enchantments)

# of Training Sessions: 99 in-game, lore wise its a lot of self-teaching/keeping their skills learned from Hammerfell sharp. Some of these are magic but lore-wise this doesn't happen cus Tei is not a magic user, save for shouts. I just did those in-game for exp OR so I can help Lucien raise his magic skills :'D

Opinions on Magical Guilds (Arcane University, Winterhold, Psijics, Synod, Radiant Dark, etc.): As they get older, they tolerate the guild & magic users more n more, BUT, Tei grew up in an environment that frowns upon the practice of magic, & it shows. They mainly mistrust necromancers/illusionists & still hold onto that belief that reliance on magic, especially for combat, is a weakness.

How Devout Are They?: Tei is rather devout, esp to their Yokudan patrons, praying or making offerings daily. They aren't the type to really push it in your face though, but have no issues answering questions one might have.

How Do They Feel About Talos Worship?: Deep down they acknowledge & admit trying to ban worship is terrible, but....Tei also lets their bias/experience with Windhelm, the Stormcloaks & especially Ulfric kinda cloud over this. If the Nords want their old ways so damn much, why fight for a divine from the Imperial Cult? Why not go back to the actual old ways? No, this isn't about worship, not to the men leading this so-called rebellion, they just needed something other than their racist bullshit to fool the common man into throwing their lives away for the nobles sitting comfortable in their thrones.

Also during their whole thing of getting into their role of dragonborn, they get a bonus 'fuck this dude actually' towards Talos, Ysmir, whatever the fuck he calls himself. (tldr; it sucks but good luck hearing Tei say that fully)

Gray-Mane or Battle-Born?: Neither, ask them again they will punch you for the love of Ruptga they get asked that every time they enter Whiterun.

Stormcloaks or Imperials?: Also neither, Tei hates em both n think they can all choke. Unfortunately they were forced to join the latter due to, yknow, calling dragons & causing massive damage in Imperial territories during isolated fits of rage and the group being more aggressive in wanting something in return for "letting it slide"....oops

Opinion on the Thalmor?: Oh absolutely despises them, they loudly complained having to work with them during the CW & would go out their way to disrupt their plans/piss them off. Sneaking was an option they did not take during the Embassy quest, if it helps paint the picture.

Opinion Of Ulfric Stormcloak?: Tei doens't say they hate people often...but they sure as hell hate Ulfric. Again, their experience in Windhelm added to this heavily, how both the Dunmer & Argonians were treated like shit, with no help whatsoever from the Jarl or guards when the local Nords targeted them. It's still up in the air if I keep this for Tei's story, but I have it where they knew Chases-Starlight's parents, who were killed. When Tei went up & demanded justice/an investigation, only to be brushed off because it "wasn't a priority," it completely destroyed what little empathy or hope they had left for Windhelm as a whole.

Opinion of The Empire?: Cowards too weak to continue fighting back against the Thalmor, in their opinion, & holds these views they grew up with even when being strong-armed into aiding them. If anything they're at least attempting to use their influence to hint towards a rebellion against the Thalmor, but the Empire could also full-on dissolve & they could give less of a shit.

How Are They Doing? Need Some Juice? A Nap? A Hug?: The whole event of Blood of Kings has fucked with their head, to say the least. It's the starting point of Tei's eventual spiral. okay y’all i re-listened to the entirety of evermore at like 2 am and went to bed at 3 am so this isn’t really coherent but here we are, qeued up to go,,,so here are my thoughts w/ evermore + tcw because y’all k n o w 

1. willow -- strong anidala vibes. taylor swift herself said something about how this song is all about the complexities of desire and. yeah. it shows. // “wherever you stray, i follow” and “i know my train could take you home” and “the more that you say the less i know” and “wherever you stray i follow” and “that’s my man ;)” 

2. champagne problems -- strong sad obitine vibes, which @kckenobi screamed about to me last night and i wholeheartedly agree. big vibes of having to leave a relationship because you have to and also...just sad. might have made me cry and my heart feel empty. def. something on repeat. // “your heart was glass, i dropped it” and “your hometown skeptics called it champagne problems” and “you had a speech, you’re speechless” and “how evergreen our group of friends, don’t think we’ll say that word again” and “one for the money, two for the show, i never was ready, so i watched you go”

8. dorothea -- this is also kinda a reach, but i see this is like the other side of anakin and ahsoka vibes in ‘tis the damn season. kind of seen from the perspective of someone who’s seeing someone come back to the hometown and ‘oh huh she’s different’ but like. still cares about you, you know? which is very anakin and ahsoka vibes season 7. // “it’s never too late to come back to my side” and “you know, you’ll always know me” and “but are you still the same soul i met under the bleachers?” 

9. coney island -- honestly about anyone with anakin. :( it’s just. really sad. destroying something delicate vibes. // “did i shatter you?” and “sorry for not making you my centerfold” and “disappointments, close your eyes” and “but you were too polite to leave me”

there’s going to be many a parody of the ghost pottery scene (look here if you’ve never seen the movie “ghost” starring patrick swayze and demi moore) in the studio, sometimes ending in clay and tickle fights, sometimes ending in some rather dirty fun times, it’s a gamble

he’s such a dog kind of man it isn’t even funny. he’s the kind of guy who carries dog food & treats in his truck (with food dishes and bottled water) just in case he happens upon a stray who needs a meal. there will be a few strays that end up becoming permanent residents of yours and frankie’s acreage, don’t doubt that for a second. a king size bed is a must bc the dogs can and will sleep in bed with you both

don’t worry about killing the plants, frankie will take plenty good care of them. doesn’t matter if it’s a veggie plant or flowers, he has the greenest thumb you’ll ever find, it’s as if he grew from demeter’s fertile soil for the specific purpose of taking care of her children. but also the chickens don’t really like frankie for some reason (he shouldn’t have eaten that chicken sandwich in front of them) so he’s not going to be caught within twenty feet of them unless you’re too sick to take care of them

You’re still not used to it. The loud music blasting into your ear from every corner of the street and the hoards of people that walk past. It’s a Friday night and you wanna let loose this holidays, especially since you just recently turned the legal age. You’re just as excited and nervous as the first time you’ve ever walked into a bar. The nagging thought of the bouncers not letting you in persists at the back of your mind. You present your ID and give them a small smile, all the while fidgeting with your fingers behind you. However, your worries are immediately washed away as they smile back and step aside to let you in. 

You walk in with Jinhee, one of your good friends who invited you out tonight to get you into the clubbing scene. Initially, you agreed in excitement and was looking forward to tonight for the whole week. But now that you’re here, you’re not so hyped anymore, especially now that you realise you have to introduce yourself to Jinhee’s friends. Meeting new people? While you’re sober? Nope, no thanks. 

Regardless, you stick closely behind Jinhee as she struts over to the bar and orders a few drinks while you scan the area, appreciating the chill vibe in the bar. People are generally huddled in their groups all erupting in laughter and talks. The girls look stunning in their outfits and the guys look clean and fit.

“Y/N. Here,” You turn your head to Jinhee while she hands you two drinks, “Gin and tonic. That’s your favourite, right?” 

You smirk and nod before you notice another two drinks in her hands. Why do we have so ma- 

“We’re starting off strong tonight, I want to be wasted when we get into the club.” She smirks. 

You scoff in disbelief, “You mean to say that these two will be all you need tonight, right? Lightweight.”

“Oh, shut up.” she retorts, “Come on, my friends are sitting on the other side.”

You follow her without a word and mentally prepare yourself for all the names you’re gonna have to remember for the night. Thankfully, the drinks kicked in faster than it usually did, allowing your social skills to skyrocket. The girls were all so nice and looked amazing in their outfits and the guys were really sweet as well. So many different conversations filled the circle and it was absolutely chaotic, but you didn’t mind it for some reason. 

“Hey guys, we should head to the other bar in the next block for another round. Heard it was really nice there.” One of the guys shouted. Taejun, was it?

“You really want to see those dancers, huh?” one shouted back, throwing his arm over his shoulders, instantly going for the choke-hold, “Taehyung, you horny motherfucker.” Oh fuck, wrong name. I must be drunk.

You pay no mind to it as the need to freshen yourself suddenly overcomes you as you stand from the stool. You decide to sober up a bit before you leave and grab onto Jinhee while everyone starts heading off.

“Jinhee, I’ll be in the bathroom. Wait for me before we leave, okay?” You ask.

She throws the okay sign while stumbling towards the entrance to catch up to everyone else.

“That bitch better not ditch me like last time.” You mumble to yourself, doubtful of Jinhee due to her intolerance to alcohol. 

Well, at least I’m having a good time. I haven’t had this much fun in awhile. You’re glad you came out and met some new people; you could really use some time to lighten yourself up from all that torture in the last semester. 

You step out of the bar, expecting Jinhee to jump out at you, nagging you for being too slow but she’s nowhere to be seen. You sigh in disappointment. Figured. You pull out your phone to call Jinhee but is stopped by a sudden invasion of personal space.

“Y/N, right? Let’s go, Jinhee said that everyone will be waiting at the next place.”

You look up at his face in confusion before you realise that he was one of Jinhee’s friends. 

“Oh shit, uhh, Taehyuk, right?” You ask while stumbling. Jesus, my tolerance must’ve gotten lower too, I can’t think straight.

“Hahaha, close. My name is Taehyung. Good try though.” He snickers.

“God dammit, I’m so sorry. I’m really bad with names,” You stammer, “especially when I’m drunk.”

“Don’t sweat it,” he smiles, “We’re all like that when we’re a bit tipsy.”

“We should probably start heading over to where everyone else is.”

You nod in approval and begin walking through the busy streets. The two of you maintain a good conversation along the way, getting to know each other and finding similar interests. Throughout the ten minute walk. You couldn’t get over how good looking this guy was. His sharp, dark eyes were so mesmerising. There was a cute mole on his tall nose and his lips were of a pretty pink. Not to mention his freaking hair. It looked like black silk shining against the lights. It was luscious and so soft-looking. I would do anything to run my hand through his hair right now. 

Unfortunately, your alone time with Taehyung came to an end as you finally met up with the rest of the group. You see Jinhee with her two bottles of soju, giving you the dirtiest look while being barely able to stand. You immediately walk over to her without much thought or any more exchange with Taehyung, feeling slightly embarrassed.

“This is for me, I assume?” You say with a glare, snatching the bottle out of her hand.

She ignores you and looks over your shoulder at Taehyung, which your eyes naturally follow.

“Already getting a hot one, huh?” She snickers.

“This wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t ditch me in the first place.” You grumble back.

“Your welcome.”

You sigh once again while downing a bit of the soju you stole from Jinhee and occasionally glance over to Taehyung. You two make eye contact from time to time and give a friendly smile but you don’t push for more. That small ten minute conversation was enough for you to constantly sneak glances at him. You’re not complaining though, he is really pleasing to look at. You feel like a child staring at a really expensive toy at the display window.

The night slowly moves on as you meet more and more people, all the while involuntarily having your eyes drawn to Taehyung, wherever he is; as if you have a radar on him this whole time. However, you don’t dwell on him for much longer than two seconds, allowing yourself to fully enjoy your night with your newly found friends.

The night was finally about to get started when Taehyung caught you glancing over at him once again. Reflexively, you smile but he doesn’t return the smile like he usually does. It throws you off guard and you freeze in shock before quickly turning your head back to the current conversation. You can feel your face and ears getting rapidly warmer. Shortly after, you feel a presence behind you and hear a deep voice call out your name.

“Y/N?” It’s Taehyung. You turn around. “We’re heading off to the club now, you wanna join us?”

“Uhh-” You immediately look towards Jinhee to ask if everyone was ready to leave before you get cut off by her loud voice.

“C’mon everyone! It’s time to hit the club, let’s go!!” Jinhee exclains to group while shuffling everyone towards the exit and gives you a small wink. That sly fox. You think in amusement.

“Alright, shall we head?” Taehyung asks while he cocks his head to the side.

You simply nod and follow him. Maybe it’s because of the alcohol in your system but you can’t seem to control your excitement at the possible opportunities that could follow tonight.

   SO FUN FACT - I have been wanting to write this character in this group for months and it is absolutely a crime that it took me this long to pick him up but here we FINALLY are ! I’m genuinely shocked he’s the first Assassin’s Creed character here because I personally think all of the characters are phenomenal and it was either gonna be this character or the protagonist from two games before ( Edward Kenway of Black Flag ) but I have a slightly greater preference towards Jacob so !! Behold the living embodiment of chaotic good !! Obvious tws for death , violence , and murder under the cut because this is a series about assassins , but also gang stuff ( and a very small bullying mention in the post-snap portion ) too. I hope this is easy to understand !! 

BEFORE THE SNAP  /  J A C O B   F R Y E .

S’OKAY again I will always try and explain the games’ history and Syndicate’s specific plotline in the simplest of ways - and especially because AC can get very confusing very fast. Thankfully Syndicate is one of the more straightforward entries , but before I get into that , I have to give a basic rundown of the lore since... it will not make sense if you haven’t played any of the games.

A long long long time ago , there were these people called the Isu , and the Isu crafted something that the AC franchise refers to as Pieces of Eden. The Pieces of Eden ultimately has access to control other living beings , and they were extremely powerful.

Flash forward a little bit where you have two forces - the Knights’ Templar and the Assassin Order/Brotherhood - that struggled for these Pieces of Eden for two very different reasons.

The Templars valued order and wanted to use them to control others to achieve a utopia - believing that human corruption & essentially free will were what caused most evils of the world.

The Assassins valued freedom & wanted to preserve the free will of the world , believing that control would do them no good and a mutual understanding under this freedom would be what created a utopia.

So basically , Templars wanted peace via control and Assassins wanted peace via freedom.

Templars wanted the Pieces of Eden to control , and the Assassins knew this was Not Good and often sought to keep the Pieces the fuck away from the Templars ( at least , that’s always how I saw it. )

Of course , because we’re now on like ten main games and seventeen spin-off games it’s OBVIOUSLY way more complicated than that , just that’s the most nutshell way to explain everything. That being said , let’s jump more into Jacob & Syndicate. 

SO JACOB. Jacob is one of the two protagonists of Syndicate , the younger twin to the other protagonist , his sister Evie. They were born in Crawley , raised by their Assassin father , but while Evie was always more . . . into the Brotherhood and assassin ideals , Jacob always was more of a rebel & a free spirit. But nevertheless , he grew up an Assassin like she.

Flash forward years later where the main plot of Syndicate starts , during the Industrial Revolution in 1868 , where the twins are set on heading to London , which is pretty much entirely under control of the Templars ( namely Crawford Starrick and his network ) & their syndicates ( ha ha hA ).

This . . . is sort of where Jacob & Evie separate in terms of goals - Evie’s well-aware of the Pieces of Eden and aims to collect them before the Templars do. However , Jacob’s more so intent on taking down Templars & liberating London from their control. He goes as far as to even starting a gang with his sister - known as the Rooks - to combat the Templar-controlled gang that has London’s boroughs in its grasp known as the Blighters. 

Evie’s basically like “okay we’re going to collect the Pieces of Eden so the templars don’t have them bc Starrick will be more powerful if he has them” but Jacob says to her “fUCK YOU I’M A MAN WHO’S GONNA FREE THE PEOPLE” and. Yeah.

Throughout the game , Jacob’s the twin that exhibits a more impulsive , reckless , yet well-meaning approach to problems - and that sorta kinda . . . means that when he solves problems , he also accidentally makes other problems , and his sister has to clean them up because hey , you killed this Templar leader and angered a bunch of Blighters and we are fucked and Jacob can’t really. Grasp that because he’s too focused on freeing London NOW and taking out Templars NOW and [ Sleeping With Sirens vc ] do it NOW and remember deal with it LATER.

There’s a few cases where Jacob has even so ( both unintentionally and intentionally ) teamed up with Templars because he thought they could help him accomplish his goals in taking London back from them.

He teamed up with Pearl Attaway ( a businesswoman who controlled most of London’s transport and wanted basically a monopoly ) and didn’t find out until later that she was a Templar and had to assassinate her since she was the exact type of controller he wanted to rid London of

But also he struck a deal with Maxwell Roth ( basically a Blighter gang leader who had a shitton of power ) to work with him - but Maxwell saw this as let’s cause as much chaos as possible and fuck the consequences where Jacob saw it as more let’s fix problems by any means necessary and he had to shut down the deal when he saw Roth really just . . . didn’t give a fuck about anyone , including innocents. Jacob’s whole goal was to free and protect the innocents , he just didn’t care how as long as nobody got hurt.

AND THAT’S HONESTLY WHAT I LOVE SM ABOUT JACOB LIKE ... Jacob. Is the epitome of chaotic good like he cares so much about people and protecting the innocents & saving them from control that yeah he doesn’t really . . . consider the consequences of his actions especially when his actions are so chaotic but his primary goal is to free the people of London by taking down Templars and he doesn’t give a fuck how he’s going to do it , he just operates on his code of making sure none of the good people get hurt and the bad guys go down. 

Eventually in the game he did come to realize the errors in his own work and way of thinking - he didn’t think much of the consequences , and therefore caused more of a wreckage than he aimed for. He loved the idea of freedom , but drew the line at absolute careless anarchy like Roth.

Basically be a REBEL not an ASSHOLE.

I love this kid tho like he’s so witty and rebellious and chaotic but also good-hearted and will still help even tho he might complain a lot about it ( looks at Abberline and Darwin ) and he !! He honestly acts before he thinks but I find those characters so refreshing esp bc he’s very emotional and adamant about acting on how he feels and his ideals and it’s honestly so. Idk I really like that about him.

He’s also canonically bisexual and that is something I will never shut up about but if you fucking even tHINK ABOUT ROMANTICIZING ROTH & JACOB’S RELATIONSHIP ( like it’s p much confirmed Roth had a thing 4 Jacob but it’s not. That’s not a Good Thing ) I will personally throw some hands with you. 

...Jacob and Ned however-

But honestly anyway TLDR; Jacob is a Victorian chaos-bringer who doesn’t really think much about the shit he does but has a heart of gold he’s just. He’s A Lot. He’s a lil bitch but a good kind of lil bitch.

ALSO ALSO ALSO I AM,,,, not exactly entirely sure where I’m pulling Jacob yet like I could pull him from the end of Syndicate’s main story but also there’s the Jack the Ripper DLC which makes me... feel things, but Jacob’s also significantly older than and a good bit of that DLC’s a bit triggering - long story short, we love and will protect Jacob Frye with our entire lives. 

AFTER THE SNAP  / J A K E   F O W L E S .

So PERSONALITY WISE - Jake isn’t much different from his past self ; the only thing is he never grew up with his twin sister , raised an only child , and because Jacob & Evie are meant to balance each other out , he essentially grew up without an entire part of him he isn’t even aware of.

He was adopted - adopted by a working-class family from London that moved to Castle Town , and that was where Jake was raised.

Now , he was always a bit of a rebel. Always a problem child from the start. There were hundreds and hundreds of cases where he was reported either talking back to teachers , misbehaving in class , sometimes even getting into fights with other kids whether it be they were picking on him or someone else.

And he always liked the thrill of being that rebel - being that miscreant that earned a reputation ; never a mean person , never a bad dude , just somebody who . . . acted out. Acted out for whatever reason - mainly because he never liked the idea of obeying or because he taught the rules were stupid or because the rules meant some people were gonna get inconvenienced. Like , if you see someone getting bullied , why just tell an adult where you can solve the problem right then and there and sock the bully in the jaw ??

That was it. That was Jake’s philosophy.

His parents sent him to multiple hobby & art & educational camps & stuff to try and see if he could find some sort of hobby that would sorta get him out of this ‘problem child’ thing - but it never really worked. He always either got sent home earlier or was asked to never come back because hey , you can’t start a rebellion in the boys’ cabin because you didn’t like the way one of the counselors instructed you about knot tying. 

Never worked out , his parents thought he was smart and would make a brilliant lawyer or doctor or something - but nope , he graduated high school , attempted college but dropped out after two years , and when his parents kicked him out , he crashed with a few friends and made a living on odd jobs before he scored working as a bartender at Dragon’s Breath.

And also . . . both fighting at The Ring and also underground matches for some coin.

Yeah. 

It’s sorta-kinda through this he ALSO became aware of the other people who had to resort to means like this to survive - eventually starting his own gang of people who operated on sorta-kinda Robin Hood like terms - protect the less fortunate , combat the gangs who caused way more problems than he’d like , and also to basically uhhh flip the bird to the rich.

You guessed it - they’re called The Rooks and they’re not really . . . big , they’re just kind of. There. And nobody knows Jake’s the leader but it’s not like he’s really pressed if anyone finds out. 

It’s overall not entirely different from his pre-CT life other than obvious modern differences and LACK OF EVIE sooo. Yeah !!

I’ll hopefully work on a WC page for him soon but as of rn I just kinda want to get some threads going - hope y’all enjoy my dumbass kid xoxoooo

☕ in Korea #4 - Coffee Hanyakbang

This post will seem like a photography post bcos I took a lot of photos at this cafe (you’ll see why!). The aesthetics of the place was amazing & unique.

Very unassuming “entrance”. Underneath the white-blue-white banner, there is a narrow alley with a width that spans approx. 1.5m.

Yeah. .. it’s tight.

After some twists & turns, you’ll find yourself in a very narrow alley that is like ~1m in width. The above is the entrance to the cafe, called Coffee HanYakBang.

You’ll see the door opening up to a space on the right, & a steep staircase that leads to the upper level.

What can you tell me / what are your thoughts on this coffeeshop based on its entrance?

Very vintage-vibes, right? It looks very “worn”, & almost as if you’re entering a film set or you traveled back in time to the modernization era of Korea.

Interior.

The design of this place, along with the owner’s attitude towards coffee, is what makes this place worth a visit.

What is “hanyakbang”? “HanYakBang” is a Korean term for “traditional Korean herbal medicine shop”- in other words, kind of like an olden day pharmacy, where the doctor/herbalist grinds natural ingredients to make something healing out of it, thereby allowing customers to “get better”. The owner of this coffeeshop believes coffee serves the same purpose - what you do with the beans -----> what the final product turns out to be .. the goal is to achieve a *healing* cup of coffee.

He is serious.

As such, the layout & interior design of this place, esp this main level/store front, was made to look like an old pharmacy. Besides the decor, equipment they use here also appear to be very used & worn. It really looks.. . complete.

Love the water thermos’, the ratio, & the light.

This should not be an unfamiliar piece of furniture if you’ve watched Asian dramas haha this cabinet is an olden day herb storage cabinet.

The main floor was full of customers, but right after I finished paying, the table that a couple occupied cleared out, & so I got a seat by the window. To my right/behind me, I have this view.

To my immediate left, I can see the narrow alleyway, & more seating space (that belongs to the same coffeeshop).

I came here pretty late in the evening... like almost 9pm. I felt like a dessert, so I ordered an affogato.

Just the right amount of both components~

For those who don’t know me, I’m saying it now: I don’t like vanilla ice cream! It’s so plain.. . & some vanilla ice creams I’ve had in the past were sooo sOO sOOOOoooO sweet! I can’t not agree to the fact that it’s a classic, but it’s a classic I don’t particularly enjoy. When it’s with other things, maybe. It’s tolerable lol.

Anyway, Coffee HanYakBang didn’t have any other dessert options, & I wanted coffee but didn’t want the usual Americano, so I got had a compromise for myself: espresso & vanilla ice cream = affogato.

I ended up liking it a lot! The espresso was super strong. Loved it! The espresso hits you really hard but then the ice cream starts to melt & the sweetness diffuses across your palette, & altogether, it had a healing effect.

Now let’s explore the other parts of the cafe~ (this is literally what I did that evening haha I finished my affogato, & just wandered around)

To begin, the coffeeshop is divided into 2 spaces that are entirely separated. The “entrances” of both spaces are located on ground level, & face other. Both spaces occupy 3 levels of the building that its in. All the floors have diff layouts & furniture, but the vibes are similar. In the above photo, majority of tables are old-school desks.

Got a large group? This place has you covered! They have a handful of long tables/bench seating.

Each floor has a small self-serve area (some stationed in the corner; others stationed in the middle), where you can get some water, napkins, & there’s separate compartments for garbage (plastics, paper, trays that belong to coffeeshop/to-stay mugs, etc).

I don’t know how to describe the place- it’s like very old-looking but it’s well-kept & tidy everywhere. Even though there are self-serve stations, & ppl leave their trays & stuff, ppl are very considerate & well-mannered. There’s no staff on each level or in each building (that I’ve seen) who does rounds & cleans up. It’s all customers!

Actually, that’s what I’ve experienced everywhere in Korea- the locals are mindful & show respect. Rarely do you see ppl just getting up & going at a cafe, leaving their mess behind. They don’t do a thorough wipe-down, of course, but ppl ... know. Simple as that!

Heading down now. This these last few photos (after the affogato) were from the other building, not the side I was in. Now let’s head “upstairs” from where I was.

The area on this side of the coffeeshop was smaller; probably half the size of the other side.

But again, you still get that film set vibe haha so unbelievable this is a coffeeshop.

no-one asked for this but The Dirt universe seems raunchier and i like exploring that side of Ash

Set approx ‘86, when Tommy and Nikki meet Roger (and Ash)

Ash is definitely a little high when she meets them; I won’t go into details but the early 80s is v rough for Ash and she does a lot of coke, esp. with Freddie, Bowie, and on other tours, etc

not relevant to this specific situation but just fyi ash has quite bad tinnitus and has already started to lose hearing in her left ear, though it’s not connected to the tinnitus, it’s a mix of hereditary and environmental (constant concerts) factors

Ash, meeting Tommy for the first time: who is this sassy, lost child

Ash, thirty seconds later when it turns out Tommy knows who she is and is excited to meet her: he’s my sassy, lost child now

Nikki is confused because ??? is she a groupie?? she’s in her mid thirties and he doesn’t know her face, why is she here??

“Dude, seriously? That’s Ash, you know, Rocket?” Tommy almost smacks him in the back of the head

Nikki: :o !

Ash is smug as hell because this is the reaction that almost everyone has because she’s still Tiny, and has taken a liking to coloured suit pants and brightly patterned button downs and she looks very pop, very 80s, but not very rock and roll

but she’s also drinking vodka like water

seriously the early 80s is not kind to her

they all order dinner and roger, nikki, and tommy are all sharing touring stories and ash stays quiet because she knows that she’s objectively far less cool than roger

but then the crue boys bring up touring with Ozzy

ash nudges roger in the ribs as they’re talking about the ant snorting incident

“that’s why i refused to work with him”

and that’s when the others seem to remember how many people she’s toured with

bowie and jagger and elton and jovi and-

tommy is Very Excited to ask the craziest thing she’s done

and ash is Not Shy (also she’s high and doesn’t care much about what these kids think of her)

fucking in a closet of a dressing room in japan with roger when a well-meaning assistant comes into the dressing room to clean up and takes her dress so she had to use gaff tape to hide her modesty

doing a nude and very explicit photoshoot for bowie whilst absolutely high out of her mind right after she’d found out roger cheated on her (she leaves that last part out)

“wait, that was you?” immediately after saying it tommy turns Very Red and shuts up. he can’t look her in the eyes for about five minutes.

“nice.” is nikki’s reaction. somehow it sounds like she’s earned his respect.

she brings up setting her “ex’s” entire life’s work on fire but refuses to go into details

hooking up with a dancer for a band after a show which lead to an orgy with the whole band and two roadies

“wait, you started with the girl?”

ash just grins

she tells them there’s more stories but she can’t tell them in public

cocaine is brought out “for dessert”

roger passes it up but ash does two lines with the boys

she almost immediately excuses herself, citing that she needs to ‘hem a vest’

“it’s not innuendo,” roger clarifies, “coke makes her productive, or she wants to fuck, or both; effects everyone differently i suppose.” he’s so fuckin candid about it?? 

and ash comes back to the table as if she’s remembered something

“i like your style; good costumes, love a good leather look, and your faces. good faces too.” and she’s very serious about it, before adding, “the paint, you know i mean the paint.” and then she reconsiders, reaching out to pet nikki’s cheek where he’s just a little endeared, ‘good faces in general though.’

and okay maybe being told by Rocket that they’ve got a good look sticks with Nikki the way Roger complimenting his drumming will stick with Tommy

Tommy, high as shit: should i feel guilty for getting off to those photos of your girlfriend?

Roger, drunk as shit: fiance, and no, i’ve seen those photos, i get it

roger will tell her this later and ash will still admit that she has a soft spot for the younger drummer.

she thinks their antics are dumb as shit sometimes but she likes Motley Crue well enough

anyways at the premiere everything’s great and fine and it’s actually really sweet that they get to connect in person after a long time of not seeing each other

but also one point tommy sees ash and roger together looking all dressed up and he can’t help but shake his head and mutter ‘that’s the same woman who told me i had a nice face while we were high as hell’ 

barney, standing nearby and completely desensitised to weird horrifying facts about his parents, completely deadpan: i prefer mgk’s but i think it’s a generational thing

mickey, his partner, their arm looped through barney’s, completely immune to the casual chaotic nature of the Taylor family, gently fixing some of barney’s highlighter with their thumb: no, i’ve seen pictures of them from the eighties, i’m with your mum on this one

later that night barney asks ash about it

“oh, douglas definitely has the nicest face in my opinion”

it creates a fued in the family group chat, the highlight of which is astrid’s “i’m gay do i have to participate in this” followed by barney’s all caps “YES. PICK.” “80s vince” “YOU HEATHEN.”

( keiynan lonsdale, twenty one, agender ) my goodness, is peter pettigrew back? it’s been a few years since the halfblood has been around the castle, but i’d recognize he/they anywhere. rumor has it the seventh year spent the past few years aligned with the order. they’re stillallocentric & cunning and obsessive & passive, though. and the gryffindor still reminds me of ketchup stains on band shirts, an incomprehensible minute long string of curses, tracing the veins in your wrist, the smell of breakfast and fresh coffee, card tricks at three in the morning. well, then, i guess some things never change.

went to muggle elementary, where he was kind of? an odd one out. his clothes were always a bit lumpy, his words a bit jumbled, his eyes shifty. was an outsider on good days, a target on less good ones. he spent many lunch breaks eating alone, and most of the time he didn’t mind — being alone meant he could let his mind wander.

still, it fucked with his self esteem. no kid likes feeling alone, or like an outsider.

and then hogwarts rolled around and! friends! marauders! peter felt so at home! oh my god okay listen. he loves the marauders so much and he was so hyped and happy to be part of this little group and there was a Lot of hero worship there, esp in the early days?

peter always loved heroes. he loves comic books and people who save the day and get the girl and do it all. i think he kind of … projected that onto james and sirius especially? did not know how to do this friendship thing as an 11 year old tbh, was a mess, was blinded by their amazingness damn

also. re: being sorted into gryffindor! peter admires heroism and bravery and chivalry, and it’s your values that get you sorted some place. and he does try to be brave, and he IS, because he becomes a damn animagus for his bud! i mean! he was not a hatstall btw  — i choose to ignore that stupid bit of post canon. it took a while for the hat, sure, but no more than two minutes. 

pete was & is a shit student, not bc he was dumb, but just because school was not. his thing. his jam. the system was just not for him. deadlines? exams? homework? no thank you. anyway, peter’s skills flourished a lot more in different settings, like … using charms for convenience. or becoming an animagus for his bff. making potions against hangovers. etc.

becoming an animagus for remus was ! important ! to peter ! he did it for remus, not because of peer pressure, or anything else — he did it because it was right, and his friend deserved it and ! he did it, too, because he could. sure, his transfig grades may have been more than poor, but the kid did have some skill. he just needed motivation, which mcgonagall didn’t give (bc. she scared him.) and this situation? motivated the hell out of him. 

peter would be lying if he said he wasn’t taken a bit aback when he learned about remus’ lycanthropy — not because he was scared of him, to be honest, but he was just ? shocked ? he was more scared for remus, and so sad? so fucking sad for him? : (

collects chocolate frog cards like it’s his damn job. i mean, he did it before hogwarts, but once he arrived and there was more opportunity to trade and a whole club dedicated to it, peter grew more and more driven to complete his collection, lmao. peter also really likes playing gobstones and is pretty good at it? same with chess & card games — he loves games!!!! so much!!!

peter had always been a bit ... fidgety, easily on edge, a bit nervous, but he’d never really known anxiety until around fourteen years old. his insecurities grew, as he started comparing himself more to his friends and finding nothing but things he lacked in comparison to them, and questions as to why they put up with him. | end of anxiety tw

so his schooldays mostly looked like ... doing nothing, playing games, having fun with his mates, getting high, forgetting his homework, stressing about homework, and somewhere, in a tiny corner of his being, worrying about the war. whenever those worries started coming up, though, he was able to push them away, because the war was not yet there, not for him at least. there was graduation to worry about first, and once that was done, then he could worry about the war.

and then the war came to hogwarts. peter was shocked. peter had been in denial about the war and how close it could hit him, because in his mind he and his friends would be safe at hogwarts, would be safe until at least graduation, and then that was all gone. peter didn’t do much during the battle. i can imagine that he just hid, that he tried to stay out of trouble, that a side of him showed itself that he did not like at all. he worried about his friends, hoped they were safe, but didn’t go looking for them, didn’t try to protect them: he clung to safety and hid. like a fucking coward. he prayed, for a moment, and then cursed god to hell and back. probably smoked a few cigarettes, too.

post battle & currently.

peter is ashamed. ashamed of his cowardice, ashamed of his passiveness, of his incapability to stand up and fight, like so many of his friends did. a disgust grew in his chest for himself, and yet he was glad, somewhere, that he had hidden. he’d not seen as much as others had. he’d not gotten hurt. he had not died.

he did join the order, along with his friends, in an attempt to make up for his earlier lack of bravery, but he finds himself incapable to do much. he’s not good at dueling and while he’s able to be strategic and cunning, his mind seems to shut down whenever he tries to apply himself. he’s terrified, frankly, and he’s angry, because he should just be at fucking hogwarts. 

that idea i mentioned earlier, that the war wouldn’t be real until after graduation, and then graduation being postponed significantly, kind of froze peter up. rather than dedicating himself to the order in his own ways, as he would do in a canon verse, or eventually deciding to walk over to the death eaters, peter just became passive. i think peter hung around hq a lot, cleaning up and cooking food and making sure there was always enough tea/coffee/beer/liquor around for when there were meetings. would rather clean a dirty toilet than go on a mission. The Order’s personal MAID! 

depression & weed & eating disorder (bed/bulimia) tw | peter feels useless. he feels like a shitty person. he feels like he’s a burden. he hates himself. peter starts secluding himself, hiding in his mother’s home. he smokes more pot. he sometimes goes a week without seeing someone besides his mum. he watches too much telly and reads comics and drowns in fictional worlds and he becomes depressed. he sinks into it without noticing and can’t come back from it. his eating habits ( which have always bordered on unhealthy ) turn worse; peter binges, and then restricts, falls into a cycle. it’s the only routine he has.

when he’s around his friends, he lives up a little. he cracks jokes and wants to play games and laughs and feels a bit more alive, but he always craves his time on his own. that’s his new way to feel safe: to stick to his newly found routine, hidden in his room, away from reality. | end of tw

and then, finally, he was able to return to hogwarts. the three years spent away from school feel like a blur, if you ask him now, a useless blur, and peter’s laughing when he steps on the train. he’s glad. he’s glad. he can return to his plan to graduate and then, maybe, find the power in himself to face the war, rather than still, kind of, deny it. peter just wants to return to his last year and make the most of it, and return to the way life once was. ( that that’s kind of impossible is, well, yet another thing he’s in denial about. )

peter parker is his favourite superhero just because ... they share a first name and because peter parker is a bit of an underdog too and peter is just like! amazing! he named his owl parker.

he hates cats. used to love them --- he was allowed to take the cat from home with him to hogwarts when he was eleven, but he brought him back home after an unfortunate incident where his cat nearly ate him while he was in his animagus form. “sorry ma, i don’t love him any more. here. have him.” 

peter is actually a solid cook. this is because he learned to make some basic food when he was still a kid, first with his grandma, and later on his own. he liked doing it for his mother and he was. .. good at it? peter is also just passionate about food and finds comfort in cooking. breakfast food and baked goods are Prime Food Categories. 

he is asexual af, panromantic. has kissed both guys and gals and nb pals but did not like it??? confused. does not understand sexuality and all that jazz but tries not to think abt it because like! he’s got enough stress! doesnt need to think abt this!

peter is also agender, but i think he’s a lot less aware about this, because it’s confusing and so he just tries not to think about it. he does feel okay with he/him pronouns, but just doesn’t feel connected at all to being a boy/man

peter has abandonment issues because his dad, well, never even bothered to be there. not even for a second. he’s just constantly scared that people will leave and it’s funny, because he will probably end up abandoning all of his loved ones KDJFHSDF.

peter is quite non confrontational but also not ... meek? he just avoids it, either by physically staying out of people’s way or by dismissing most of the things said and getting out of there. a Passive Kid. will, however, defends his friends honour, because damn it, he loves them so much.

he’s such a fucking dork i swear to god. but he’s funny! peter is really funny. i deeply believe in this. he makes great puns and is able to just come out of nowhere and make a comment that just. hits the nail right on its head.

Thirst No. 4: The Shadow of Death

The immortal Sita has died. Only not — her soul still lives, in the body of her descendant. How did this happen? In seeking the answer, Sita will learn the secret to defeating the ancient race that imperils humanity. The search won’t be easy, though. Sita must traverse time and space, heaven and hell, the physical and the spiritual, and what the hell is even going on my head hurts.

Honestly, I’m not sure what Pike is going for in this book. Is it trying to be smarter than other authors of the era and genre by bending the rules of continuity? Is it striving for a narrative that is just beyond his reach? Is it just pounding out Another Damn Sita Book against deadline to get that green? It could be any of those. At least it ties up the story of the Telar and the IIC relatively well, although there’s still enough loose ends to keep our vampire going if necessary (and of course it is; Thirst 5 is still on the horizon).

One thing Pike has totally bought into is the arbitrary capitalization of the names of things to make them Important Artifacts. You remember this: probably the impetus was Suzanne Collins, naming specific elements of the Hunger Games to showcase why they were relevant and how the country had accepted them as elements of the competition. But then every single friggin’ YA book about a post-apocalyptic dystopia started adopting the shit. At least Collins tried to come up with catchy names for her Artifacts. The other authors just come up with a word to call something and throw an initial cap on it, and Pike leaps happily aboard the Proper Name Train. And every time you think he’s drilled down to the smallest level of a Category, he names a smaller subgroup that needs its own Capital. Eventually it makes me want to put the Book down and kick the Ass.

Is it obvious I’m teaching again? Not just because I’m going all loco on repetitive cliches, but also because it’s taken me like three weeks to write this. 

Let’s just bore down into the summary. We start with Sita in her descendant Teri’s body, awakening to that fact at her own funeral. Apparently she had a couple of days that are just blank or at best hazy, but then Miracle Baby Teen took Teri’s hands and looked into her eyes, and crystallized Sita’s presence. Nobody is sure what this means, exactly, but Sita is feeling blood hunger for the first time in years. The new body doesn’t have the five thousand years of experience and transfusions from multiple vampires and gods and saviors to abate it, after all. So when she gets back to her hotel, she orders room service — only they don’t offer blood. But the delivery boy has some, and dude does she drink it ALL. So then there’s some wacky hijinks as she has to clumsily get the body out of the hotel and dispose of it.

She’s not ready to reveal herself to Immortal Boyfriend yet, though. He was against her turning Teri into a vampire in the first place, remember, and in her weak state she figures he’d kill her. So she carefully and strategically reveals some info like Sita told Teri as they try to figure out what to do about the bigger threats of the virus wielded by the immortals and the crippling mental focus of the monster corporation. The Telar-ites want to focus on mass producing the cure to the virus and getting it distributed, but Sita thinks the only way they can do that is to involve IIC. Someone’s research has turned up that all of the main members were students of the same parapsychology professor at Berkeley(?), and so Sita, Seymour, Miracle Teen’s mom, and the young Indian girl who has been sucked into this life all drive out to meet him.

But before they go, Sita/Teri has to clean up her mess. Apparently she’s not as stealthy as she used to be either, because some dumbass kid saw her taking the room service cart with a body stuffed under it down to the garage, and his mom reported this Olympic champion to the police. So she has to try to wipe out any trace of suspicion from the cops’ minds, as well as finding a safe source of blood to feed on. Turns out one of them has a wife who is a doctor, and after an overreaching act of hypnotism, Sita gets into the hospital blood bank and takes all of it, then goes back home with the doctor and wipes out her memory as well as her husband’s. So it’s cool that she still has her vampire hypnosis, but it’s super clumsy, just like everything else in this new body. And what happened to Teri? Miracle Teen seems to think she’s dead, but that can’t be right. But why not? And if not, how come Sita is so in control?

The professor is quite a font of information, and he sure is scared of the IIC boss. He suggests they go talk to her ex from school, who was one of the major catalysts in the discovery of group-focused mind control via ESP. This dude and his girlfriend are still living in Santa Cruz, and they aren’t at all surprised to find four random diverse strangers at their door. Sita is confused, though, that the math doesn’t add up in regard to how old these people are. According to the research, their studies happened in the ’60s, but there’s no way this dude can be older than 40 when he ought to be knocking on 70. It gets late quickly, and so the couple offers our ramshackle group a couple of rooms for the night. Sita takes the opportunity to decode some more of Original Vampire’s book, and learn more about the deep and true love between him and the Telar he married. She also calls Teri’s parents to check in, and learns that the cops are still looking for her in connection with the missing room service dude, so that sucks.

In the morning, the CEO’s ex tells them more about his research and how IIC stole it to find exactly the right sociopaths to use in its mind-control device. Basically it was an astrological predictor, so that you could tell with a high degree of accuracy what someone would be like and how their extrasensory facility would manifest based on where and when they were born. Sita realizes, all of a sudden, that the creepy kid she ran into at the CEO’s house is actually conceived with this ex, because of his own predilection for ESP and his familiarity with the needs of the astrological predictor. He talks about having been targeted by the device himself, and his girlfriend says that she managed to shake him free by pushing him down the well on the property. They’ve mentioned this well before, and how it provides such amazing water, so now Sita is curious.

She ends up climbing down the bucket rope in the middle of the night, into a vast cavern with a faint glow at one end. Following the light leads her to: her own body. Sita’s body, that is, the one that was supposed to have been buried in Denver. Sitting by it is the astrological researcher’s girlfriend, who Sita immediately realizes is more than she’s revealed herself to be. Yep: it’s Original Vampire’s wife, Immortal Boyfriend’s mom, and one of the oldest and most ancient Telar still in existence. But it’s not like that. She took the body to protect what it holds, not just to keep it from these creepy evils that are trying to get more power but also because — check this shit out — it’s healing.

Sita can get back into her body, Ancient Telar says. All she has to do is let Teri finish dying.

Obviously when he finds out, Immortal Boyfriend is pissed. He is totally ready to murder Sita, without actually ritualizing it so she returns to her body. And Sita knows she deserves it, sort of. She’s as much to blame as anyone for the mess they’re all in, and she loved Teri as much as any of them, maybe even more. So she’s not going to fight back if Immortal Boyfriend exacts his rage. But he can’t do it, and he does realize that having a full-strength Sita will help their cause. So they all end up back down in the cave, where they reconnect the appropriate bodies by ripping Teri’s femoral artery and allowing Sita’s corpse to drink the blood. The transfer happens fast, and lucky for Immortal Boyfriend Teri has just enough consciousness to say goodbye.

I have to step out of summary for a minute to flat-out state how GROSSLY DISSATISFYING this is. Like, for seven books now we’ve known Sita as this inhuman giant, capable of defeating everyone and anything. Now she’s in a newer body, with a younger brain and less experienced reflexes even if it has all her consciousness, and she’s supposed to start figuring out how to overcome that. To just un-write the whole thing and stick her back in her old body not even half a book later strikes me as Pike didn’t want to commit to a decision he’d already made, rather than any kind of grand plan that this was always gonna happen. And yeah, I get it, Sita’s body has all kinds of implications, but why did it have to come back almost immediately? I’d go so far as to say that this makes Teri Raine practically irrelevant to the grander scheme of the story. And it sticks the whole personality quirk we’ve just learned about Sita — where she has followed and cared about her line of descendency, one that never actually seemed believable having read the first six — even deeper into the grave.

So now the gang is all together and ready to carry out their plan. Sita waltzes into the IIC office, releasing the deadly virus as she does so, and makes her demand: use the mind control group to destroy all of the high-ranking Telar or die painfully and frightened today. This is where the Arbitrary Capitalization makes its most insidious entrance. The top Telar, the Source, can meld to form the Link, which makes them unbeatable. But IIC can focus its Array through the Cradle, powered by a smaller group known as the Lens, and at least find where they are. So once she learns a Location, Sita can use her Knowledge to open up a Can of Whoop-Ass. But to join the Lens, she’s required to offer up a sacrifice, and she figures the best candidate is the mole who keeps feeding up information on where the group is, and not least the DNA of Immortal Boyfriend so he could get possessed. Who is it? Probably the math teacher who conveniently keeps not being with the group every time they get attacked. Only as the Lens forces her to climb to the top of Truman College’s bell tower and hurl herself off it, Sita sees inside her mind and knows she was innocent the whole time. 

As it happens, she feels claws on her shoulders. Ancient Telar warned her that this would probably happen: in order to tap into the powers of the extrasensory, one has to connect to a Familiar. Sita can see the ones clinging to the kids in the room, but is not permitted to look back at her own, which makes her suspect that it’s probably the most powerful demon of all — a demon that was never actually a demon, but an angel that refused to accept its grace in being less than God and ended up falling into the deepest of despair. Yeah, that one.

She calls back to base and lets her crew know what’s going on, then tries to use her newly replenished powers to fix the police detective whose brain she screwed. Only he starts feeling scared and disturbed, and she realizes that this Familiar that is now attached to her is having a negative effect on her powers. IIC Boss comes in and they talk about the computer game that everyone’s playing, the one about being saved and moving to higher planes of heavenly ability, which is (not coincidentally) being constantly written and updated by the kids in the Lens when they’re not out brain-murdering. 

Have I talked about this game before? It feels like I did, but maybe I’m thinking of Alosha. Miracle Teen loves it, and he said his presence in game was literally just to make himself known. But there are obvious creepy levels behind it, and IIC Boss reveals that there is no possible way to delete or destroy the code because of how it’s been embedded into the Internet. What’s it for? We don’t know yet! We do know that there’s significant backmasking and subliminal messages which echo the invocations the Lens uses to get into its power state. So maybe this game somehow charges telepathic batteries? I’m pretty sure this is the last time Pike mentions it in this book.

But now they’re getting ready to attack the major players in the Telar, so they have to work fast and without many breaks. They get two by melting them with too much chlorine in a hot tub, and then there are four in an LA hotel that they attack by forcing one of the guards to disrupt them and break their Link. But before they can kill all the Telar, one invokes a name that throws the psychic connection into the garbage. Sita knows where they are, though, and attacks in person. We get some more Matrix shit as she leaps from a helicopter and uses stairs like trampolines, and she ends up leaving the last Telar alive with a command that he use his high-ranking government contacts to launch a missile strike on a location that she will psychically contact him with in a few hours. That is, once she figures out where the rest of the Source is hiding.

The rest of Team Vampire shows up (well, not Miracle Teen, who is smart enough to keep the hell away from the demon-summoning corporation that would love all of his power) to help Sita fight the final battle. Seymour and Immortal Boyfriend are going to vaccinate the IIC against the virus, which is dormant but not totally gone as Sita’s bargaining chip. Only not the kids in the Cradle and the Lens: Sita has arranged for them to get a full dose of the virus instead, so the company can’t wield its devilish mind-control device with impunity once its primary antagonists are all dead. Yeah, we’re murdering children now. Sweet. Oh, and also, Ancient Telar is also the mother of the leader of the Source, and Sita has learned that you can control someone who is related to the person with the blood (or DNA, or whatever the fuck marker it is they’re actually using) and so attacking the dude might kill her too. It’s a risk Ancient Telar is willing to take.

She joins the Lens, and her sacrifice is the creepy teenager who leads it. Like, she literally breaks his arm and allows his brain to murder himself. Shit, if Sita knew she could do that! They find the Source and realize it’s impenetrable; their shield is too strong and all the kids will break before they can get through. (Like, I’ll murder kids, but not before I’m done using them to murder immortals.) Ancient Telar tells Sita there is a way — she just has to remember what happened after she died. Like it’s that easy.

But she does. Suddenly, we’re back on the mountain, where Sita has just been lasered in the heart. She finds a cave and follows it down forever, until she sees others and decides she needs to follow them. The path leads to a giant river teeming with inhumanity, all sorts of dead people who are trying to answer a question about their lives in order to take a boat across. Only thing is, if you answer it wrong you’re forced to forget it. We get to remember them, though, because this is a book and not some crazy spiritual encounter. 

Sita answers the first question wrong (”what is the most useless human emotion?”), and then finds a beautiful and familiar-looking young woman who tells her not to despair, because she has plenty of time to think about the answer. She’s already gotten her question right, and is waiting for Sita so they can ride together with another woman. After a second missed question (”what quality is both great and dangerous in humans?”), she meets the other woman, who also looks familiar. Weird! She tells Sita that all of the questions may be different, but the answers are all important, and they should come back to us when we need them. So I guess we can yell at the book like it’s Dora the Explorer later on. The third question is “what is the greatest mystery in the universe?” Sita knows this one: it’s that God and his names are all the same, so by invoking the name you are bringing God to you. It does take her a second, because she has to argue with the boat driver over misleading info he’s given her, but in the end she gets to cross the river with her new friends.

On the other side is a mountain full of caves. They each have to go through their own cave, and Sita ends up at an abyss, where she can see the tunnel on the other side but doesn’t know how to get there. A woman with some grotesque facial scars shows up and walks across the space, offering to help Sita do it, for a kiss. She knows about Sita’s final sin, showing a blood-stained syringe like she’s predicting kid-virus-murder, and with a kiss they will bond and the woman will protect her when it comes to final judgment. After all, she did miss the second question. And suddenly it comes flooding back to Sita, with a realization of what the correct answer is: faith. She doesn’t need to get across, necessarily; she just has to take a leap of faith.

She passes out for a minute after jumping, then comes to in a pathway with the syringe on the ground next to her. She makes her way to the obvious judgment house and sees how it works. You state your name and age, put your hands over a scale, and one of them makes diamonds and the other black pearls. Whichever side is heavier determines where you go in the afterlife, and the younger you are the less the scale expects, I guess. The young woman that Sita rode in the boat with offers to go first, and OH HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK IT’S TERI. Because this is happening in the past, remember, Sita doesn’t think Teri is dead, but the other woman says time doesn’t matter here, you can encounter people who are dead from all periods, including apparently the future. But Teri was good, duh, and she goes up. And now we learn just how old Sita is exactly: 5152 years old. Naturally someone with this long of a life and this complicated of a history produces enough gems to bury the scale entirely. Her hands drop with the exhaustion of producing so much junk, and ultimately the dark side of the scale prevails. The devil himself shows up to make a deal with Sita, though: if she destroys the light bearer, he’ll go easy on her.

And now Sita is back in her living  body, still channeling into the room that observes the Source, with a bitter realization of what she has to do. Ancient Telar has described their initial Link, the one that granted her people immortality, as one that filled them with light. So she needs to kill this lady in order to make the current Source vulnerable. Which, duh, Ancient Telar knew it the whole time, and is ready to make peace with her twelve thousand years. Her soul’s absence weakens the Link, and Sita makes herself visible through multiple ancient magics to let them know of their fate. Of course they try to reason and bargain with Sita, but as she’s already been tortured nearly to death by the leader she doesn’t think it’s necessary to make a deal, and sticks around long enough to make sure they’re all still present when the last dude she left alive sends in the missile strike.

So now obviously the kids are sick and dying and Team Vampire has to get out of this building. They’re stopped by the CEO and her husband, who insist that they heal all the kids, only Sita refuses and the CEO knows why: this Cradle business has gotten out of their control and the only way out is to let it die. When her husband argues in favor of the kids, she shoots him in the fucking head and then asks Sita for one kid: her daughter. They get in the van, Seymour screaming and protesting the whole time, and they’re only maybe a mile away when the shit blows up. See, while Sita was planning for her child murder to be slow and painful, Immortal Boyfriend laced the whole place with powerful explosives so that they’d just die instantly. 

Almost immediately, they get pulled over. Why? There’s no connection between this van and the building they just left, or any of their identities. But CEO confirms that the Internet program just kicked on, which means maybe there’s one person still connected to the Cradle who could make it go. Who the hell could it be? For now, Sita hypnotizes the cops away from the van and they figure out how to make it to a middle-of-nowhere hellhole hotel, where she shares a room with the young Indian girl who had been a part of the Array but has had some unusual powers against it, who had also been scarred in the face before Sita found her, who somehow had the original copy of Original Vampire’s book even though Sita KNOWS she made a copy of it to send back with her. Weird!

And suddenly Sita realizes who is the mole, the rat, the link, the answer to all of the problems. And the young Indian girl slowly drops her facade and reveals that yes, she’s been the human connection for the devil the whole time, and that she was dark and evil even before her arranged fiance threw acid in her face. And just as suddenly, Sita is talking with the devil himself, in a luxury hotel room overlooking ... I dunno, Hell City? He’s kind of pissed that she wiped out the Cradle, and counts himself lucky that the Internet program was able to be started up. Still, he offers her another deal so that his connection to the human realm won’t be lost. Sita wants the answer to the ferryman’s first question in return, but he won’t give it up. But she’s figured something else out: the light bearer is actually this first fallen angel, Lucifer. And now she’s back in the nasty hotel room, where she doesn’t hesitate to rip of the Indian girl’s head and throw it out the window.

And suddenly AGAIN, Sita is back in front of the scale, where she knows the answer to the riddle and realizes just what is holding her down: guilt. It’s her guilt that has caused her hand to rest on the dark side of the scale and pull it down. She releases it and immediately the light side takes over. She is led to a long tunnel, which leads to an intoxicating blue light, and a man with a long braid and a flute. Finally, Krishna has come for Sita. Only he didn’t have to, because he’s always been there for her, and will be even if she chooses to go back to her body.

And that’s the end of Thirst No. 4! It seems like this would have been a satisfying enough ending for this whole series, right? We got some closure, we know that the monsters have been dealt with, we are ready to be done. But we can’t, because we know there’s still a fifth book coming. In fact, I’m pretty sure that I’ve never read that one, after two attempts by Pike to end this series. Maybe it won’t suck? Let’s find out.

Integrating Japanese Culture & Omegaverse

An answer to this ask. I base my headcanons off 13+ years of milling in and out of various aspects of Japanese culture, plus 1 year of academic study of the language, and 1 semester of a Japanese culture class.

I will attempt to explain the basic themes underlying Japanese society, which determines how a majority of characters will interact with each other or their environment.

Theme 1: Harmony

Every culture naturally values harmony and cooperation amongst its members, otherwise nothing would be accomplished. The same is true of Japan, and this aspect ties in nicely with the popular ‘pack’ aspect of omegaverse. As with other cultures, identifying oneself as part of a group is an important part of a person’s life. In Japanese culture, there seems to be a little more stress on the cooperative element, but the nuance between Japan and other cultures is difficult to pick out. The differences are subtle - after all, even when I was young and going to school in the US, isn’t it understood that cooperation is needed in group work in order to get things done?

In Japan, at least, there is more emphasis on doing one’s best so that it benefits the group. Ideally, hard work will lead to everyone improving and reflecting well on the group - think of a sport’s team. 

An example might explain it better:

An example from a textbook, about how children in elementary school take turns serving each other food and cleaning the classroom: “The leader of the group will be varied over time. Rather than ordering the other children in the group what to do, their role often focuses on reminding the others on what needs to be done and trying to motivate them to do it well. However, I have also seen some more bossy styles.”

Conversely, an individual’s failings may be framed as reflecting badly on the group. As a small example, one might blame a misbehaving or lazy child on the parents not bringing them up well as opposed to the child itself being bad. Or, for a well-worded example from an actual textbook:

“...should something go wrong, it is rarely the responsibility of the individual, but the group and organisation as a whole. It may be that a public apology will be needed, and in such cases this will be done by an individual on behalf of all...He or she is unlikely to face any recriminations him or herself. It will be the company or organisation that will be investigated, if the case is that severe. Compare this to societies where individuals may see a company at fault and try to take action against a company as a whole, but it is not uncommon for an individual to be found responsible and to be fired or otherwise sanctioned.”

This is also the reason why Japanese people are sometimes seen as deceptive, especially in business settings. To maintain ‘harmony’, and avoid creating an uncomfortable situation no one wants to deal with, Japanese people will not often tell you what they are really thinking to your face. Even if you don’t look your best today, for instance, it’s usually incredibly rude and hurtful for someone to go up to you and tell you that you look like shit. Sometimes, in Japan, this is taken to the extreme - for example, Japanese friends might not point out if your pronunciation is bad or you said something incorrectly because they don’t want to offend you or make you feel bad - that, in turn, would make them feel incredibly uncomfortable.

This ties into the next point.

Theme 2: Inside / Outside ; Honne / Tatemae

As touched upon in the last point, “what is expressed (tatemae) and what the person actually believes (honne)” is an important part of social interactions. 

For example: “Those who start studying and using Japanese are often praised on how good their Japanese is. In reality, while there may be an admiration in the person trying to learn and use what even many Japanese people themselves believe to be a difficult language, they may not be thinking the person’s Japanese is good at all. However, expressing the compliment not only encourages the person to keep trying, a concept that many Japanese value, but makes it easier to maintain good relations with the other person.”

Similarly for the inside/outside, for all people, there are some personal matters you do not need to bring up at work (what business is it of theirs?). And when in your own home with friends, there are things about your work life that you don't need to mention. The Japanese language accounts for this divide well, since there are different levels of politeness/respectful language. Generally, Japanese people will be uncomfortable speaking casually to their superiors (or strangers). Even if they aren’t uncomfortable with it themselves, they do conform to the unspoken ‘rules’ because it’s just natural. It’s like going up to your boss who you don’t know very well and using slang and talking to them like a close friend. You just don’t do it.

Tying it All Together

There is obviously a lot more to a culture than two intersecting themes, but if you need to, you can seek them out yourself. This should be a decent starting place.

It’s also important to note that the above (esp. the stuff about harmony and cooperation) is merely an ideal. The real world doesn’t always work out this way, and of course individual people are not robots who conform to their society’s ideals perfectly.

As for omegaverse, these themes are why the alphas in my headcanons appear more ‘submissive’ or ‘passive’ compared to their Western counterparts. They actually aren’t, but the values of their society do dictate some of their behavior. For example, when you get in trouble at work in Japan, the person who has an issue with you will generally not tell you to your face, but go to your boss and tell them. Because it’s rude to confront you directly, and also makes them uncomfortable. Similarly, Japanese companies used to have a thing where they didn’t like to fire people - instead, they would demote you or stick you on menial tasks with no hope of promotion so you would just quit on your own.

To combine the two, it’s just a matter of matching the two up and seeing if they’re compatible. For example, nesting - I have an old headcanon where Japanese omegas do not nest unless pregnant or extremely distressed. Because Japan is a country that encourages mold to grow everywhere if the room is not ventilated well and the bedding aired out, it would make sense for omegas to adapt to only nesting under specific circumstances.

the sensations hit him abruptly like a tsunami.

miss heron is very nice to him. she lets mingfei eat delicious food until he’s full for two-times a day. never to raise her voice and always patient while explaining the things he doesn’t understand. she let everyone embrace their ‘peculiarities’ by encouraging them to utilize it, like listening to the dreams he has each night and putting him back to bed when he sleepwalks. its almost his first year of staying with her yet never once mingfei has been hit with a belt or a wooden stick whenever he missed a target with his knives during training sessions. and he is more than happy for that.

but what’s better is the amount of books in her library. it’s almost like a room of endless shelves, each one containing books mingfei doesn’t even know exist. from the illustrated storybook that miss heron would read to the younger kids in her orphanage to the books with difficult words in it. yixing decided that he’s fond of the psychology and medicine sections and would spend hours there even if it’s just to look at the diagrams.

it always ends as soon as it begins for him.

he was never one to lose his temper over things so easily, but the very composure he thought he possessed flew away upon finding out that the invisible creature that took miss heron’s eyes were the same runt that couldn’t keep his mouth shut during his reading sessions in the library.

he’s all but sunken cheeks and hollow eyes when he stepped out of the last loop, leaving the last child for the ymbryne to take care of after five years of living in the streets. saccharine voice convinced him to stay, but mingfei rejects the prospect of living in momentarily peace if the same incident will only repeat itself again.

( he eventually stopped his travels and settled down in a loop somewhere in russia, though. twenty five and he becomes the headmistress’ most trusted keeper )

vi.

six decades of waiting for a chance to strike back, six decades of gritted teeth and clenched fist. his disease decided to make an appearance on the moment that counts.

it was just one, minuscule cut to his finger, courtesy of the throwing knife he hadn’t touched for so long. the cut wasn’t even deep yet the red that flows from it managed to put him into a state of  unconsciousness for almost a day.

the headmistress’ voice is clear as the day even in his dazed state when she told him he’s not cut out to be a hunter, that he’s going to teach the ones that has the potential instead. empty eyes glanced at the spot on the wall across his bed, words lost to deaf ears save for the occasional mentions of ‘new loop’ ‘mara-do’, and ‘transfer’.

Update the game!

Yes. I might as well update you guys on the game a notch so you don’t worry that I died. I didn’t die, I am just a bit busy with real life cuz, I finally went to get the necessary paper that I passed the state exam and shit and boi it’s hot outside. also my sis is sloowly preparing for her term (September 3rd), so.. summer is going to be fun. :’) 

anyways to cut the shit short, here’s the update list to the Ultimatum (the final update) and what to expect.

things that are in the game

Intro:

-The only changes I did are the dialogues, they’re a bit short now (I also changed the intro dialogue for Pupper’s route, so the story might be a bit more clear per say.  -If you have followed in on the videos on my gaming channel (which are now unlisted), Pupper and alts don’t say their reason for their existence, they only say they’re here to help you. (Actually, Pupper says they want to help, Asriel has NO IDEA what he’s doing so YOU help HIM, baka just does their baka stuff, and Pipscrap tells Max that they’re there to help him and they don’t have much of a choice, being v vague about shit). I also fixed the major issue where the main route was completely unplayable by pushing all of the alt’s dialogues in one page (if I was to make a game with more alternates, I’d have to rely on switches as well. also I have room for 1 more alternate so.. I have no idea who I am going to add doe as I am saving Alpha’s route for her own game ROUTES) -You start at level 20, but Pupper and Alts ‘tame you’ (no euphemism intended), by resetting your stats to level 1 (In the videos I will do for you, you might notice that it’s different, because I slapped in level 50 as my testing default for when I test the full game. I only use test to test out puzzles.)

Zone 0:

-Dialogue changes, and there’s a hint in the second floor of the warehouse where it hints how to solve the puzzle. (placement of rows actually) -Judge no longer tells you about the mission, but he is rather wary of Pupper because of their appearance in the game, and for Pupper choosing Max out of all people. 

Zone 1:

-Not much changes to Zone 1, beside major dialogue changes, you now have a choice to bond with the character or to decline, Pupper and alts say something different based on the given choice.  -Bob is a bit specific about the shachihata music note puzzle. -Aleyes is. yet again. Aleyes. But now he has reason to attack you back at the chicken farms. -Birb locations are finally implemented.  -Dedan’s personality is tweaked drastically.

Zone 2:

-Major changes to Zone 2 happened. Some things in the game stayed (like cleaning out the monsters back in the upper floor and also the mall event, however that was actually tweaked), and some puzzles were tweaked. I think I managed to fix a serious soft lock bug in the adoption center. Max and Sam are now placed up in the game room while you play as Seneca.  -Some new cutscenes are implemented into the game while some are taken out. -Residential area has a bit more life to it (Elsen actually do something at the beginning before Shedder attacks, and even after, you will see what they were doing.  -Valerie doesn’t explain about the tokens (no longer coins), and Japhet has a drastic change in his dialogue, and also new event sprites are implemented to fit the cutscene.  -Balloon game is FINALLY CHANGED TO THE GOD DAMNED WHACK A FUCKING MOLE!! GOD FUCKING DAMN!! I mean it took a while to implement, and I thought of scrapping it, but last minute decided to try and see if I can fuck around with the variables. -Birb locations are finally implemented. -Theo is now the cafe owner/souvenir giver. -Changed the puzzle in the way upper areas of the library. -As Pipscrap, YOU DON’T FIGHT SENECA. LIKE, AT ALL!! 

Zone 3: 

-I have yet to fix the whole thing, but the plans are to change areas 2 and 4. Area 1′s puzzle is now changed to gem hunt (You have to find 15 gems hidden among the cafeteria and dorms). -Alpha is now specific about the Punishment Game, and reminds you to be careful (if you chose to keep it on, but regardless, she does remind you just in case (some events are going to be in there. aka the monorail event and also the shedder event)) -If you choose to skip the hunt, you will no longer see the cutscene in the last update. HOWEVER, if you complete zone 3, and find Enoch’s memory place (all has to be on Pupper’s route, alt routes don’t work!!) you will be able to go into the backroom in alpha’s shop while the only people there are Enoch and Sucre (if you go back to talk to Enoch and remind him that his daughter is waiting). I will make some changes to the back room and add a new event. I might possibly even add some more music to the radio (non-copyrighted that is ahahahha) -Area 3′s tomato event has been changed. You no longer have to fight a myriad of armobugs, only 4 in a group of 3, and still be able to finish the quest. -Birb locations have yet to be implemented.  -Enoch’s dialogue will also be tweaked. I still follow with the relapsed Guardians, however they might be more in-character than before.. I hope....  -Also Punishment Game(tm) can be turned off if it’s too repetitive. however it only applies for OUTSIDE of the attraction. 

Things that MIGHT be implemented:

-a little minigame for the intro sequence (it’s like those things in the kids’ games.. yeaaa.. ^^; either I implement it in the final update, or I implement it in the final game, I am debating on that one, I have been looking at the original game (the one with the joystick!!) to figure out how I can do that thing.. boi it’s hard. ;w;  -Erika will no longer be the ONLY side-antagon in the game. I am currently working on designing the other three bosses for each zone. -Zone 4 has yet to be worked on, but be patient. I will work on it aaa. -Asriel has gotten a redesign and is in the process of being sprited. yea. he’s going to have his sprite, but the sides are what the shit.. how do you sides? -Might actually implement living, breathing lost souls, albeit unlike Max. Devon and Georgio might get their changes as lost souls, except Puff. Puff is a precious cinnamon roll too pure for this world. I might also work on a game featuring puff as the main protagon.. But I need a motif.. and free time.. and also I need to work on Pretender too danget dffdhgfgh -more punishment games for zone 4. :)

anything else: 

-Burnts now have a floral pattern to them -In order to get something from Pretender, you will have to collect necessary items scattered around the 3 Zones (zones 1 through 3) -as I said earlier, the major bug is fixed and some soft locks (esp the one in the adoption center ahah) -New monster re-sprites (by me and Wolf!) -some monsters’ stats have been changed. Broken time implemented, but still no battle animations set in stone.
