Soul Sculpture. Making the small book shelf in the center of the chest of this sculpture is so satisfying. This is a collaboration with my friend @judyserebrin who makes hand painted a bound books as well as sculptures. She'll make the small book to fit in this shelf. Where is Mama Going? sculpture. Removing flanges and assembly of small paper pieces. In this case, I'm using the mold instead of the flanges to assemble. earth bound sculpture. I have to say that everything about these curls has been difficult and painful. Casting them took a long time and I filled the insides with paper paste. That shrank, a lot. The outside coat of paper pulled away. Then, although I marked them so that I would know where each one fit, they didn't fit. They had shrunk so much that they didn't seem like they belonged. I can rebuild them, but I think it will take the same amount of time to sculpt on them in place. Where is mama going? Sculpture. While the big one is drying I'm putting together this sculpture. I have all the paper parts ready to go. You get the view here of the threaded rod armature and the nuts and washers that I use to assemble sculptures. I learn quite a lot with each sculpture. earth bound sculpture. I cut the flanges off of the legs and then placed them, just to see how it's looking. I'm very pleased. I didn't get the paper applied on the legs the way I would have liked. It doesn't cause structural problems but means that I have to do more work to fix the surfaces. earth bound sculpture. Removing the flanges. I glued them together, clamped the flanges, used paper paste on the inside, let them dry, then cut the flanges. I used to cut the flanges first and glue them in the mold, but they warped and it made more work for me.
