I Have Returned
7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying, 8 “I saw in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse! He was standing among the myrtle trees in the glen, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses. 9 Then I said, ‘What are…

Genuinely surprised that you've only just read Blood Meridian. I'd swear your interest in the realities of war and combat, bald tall men supremacy, and hunting beautiful and grand fauna had at least been influenced by reading the book way too early in your life or something.
Mentioning that, I've seen some make good arguments that the theming with stones was McCarthy emphasizing how hostile and oppressive the nature of the world is, as if a reminder to users who spam those overdone "The Uncaring Nature of the Universe vs The Indomitable Human Spirit" memes online that the universe is, in fact, uncaring, desolate and despairingly vast and that if they forget that and start thinking themselves the protagonists of this world it will swallow them up (or also come up at them as a violent 6ft tall rapist)
Yeah, I guess in retrospect me and Blood Meridian were a kind of inevitable mix.
And I can see the merit of the argument, though I think it's worth splitting hairs and saying that, with the ways that the already-harsh badlands of the Southwest at times seem to conspire against the protagonists and the florid, borderline eschatalogical prose that goes into setting nature scenes, it's less "the universe doesn't care" and more "the universe knows you're there and hates you"
Similarly, one of the things that makes the judge so compelling (and makes people theorize so much that he's the literal Devil) is that he's not out to crush spirits, but seems to corrupt and twist any trace of goodness he sees. Time and time again he'll make long, compelling, dazzling arguments that prompt much of the Glanton gang to be enraptured and practically start converting to whatever new philosophy he's cooked up, only for him to start laughing at them for it.

The Problem of Liminality in the Christian Eschatalogical Debate.

673      Since the Ascension Christ’s coming in glory has been imminent,566 even though “it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority.”567 This eschatological coming could be accomplished at any moment, even if both it and the final trial that will precede it are “delayed.”568 (1040, 1048)
674      The glorious Messiah’s coming is suspended at every moment of history until his recognition by “all Israel,” for “a hardening has come upon part of Israel” in their “unbelief” toward Jesus.569 St. Peter says to the Jews of Jerusalem after Pentecost: “Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for establishing all that God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old.”570 St. Paul echoes him: “For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?”571 The “full inclusion” of the Jews in the Messiah’s salvation, in the wake of “the full number of the Gentiles,”572 will enable the People of God to achieve “the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,” in which “God may be all in all.”573 (840, 58)
The Church’s ultimate trial
675      Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers.574 The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth575 will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.576 (769)
676      The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatalogical judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism,577 especially the “intrinsically perverse” political form of a secular messianism.578 (2425)
677      The Church will enter the glory of the kingdom only through this final Passover, when she will follow her Lord in his death and Resurrection.579 The kingdom will be fulfilled, then, not by a historic triumph of the Church through a progressive ascendancy, but only by God’s victory over the final unleashing of evil, which will cause his Bride to come down from heaven.580 God’s triumph over the revolt of evil will take the form of the Last Judgment after the final cosmic upheaval of this passing world.581 (1340, 2853)
i actually have no idea what the roman catholic interpretation or spread of interpretations about the Apocalypse is. I presume they mostly take a preterist view of the thing

A while back I asked for your advice on my Corpse Hunter archetype Ranger taking on a holy artifact of his faith, The Raven’s Head, in the Carrion Crown Pathfinder campaign.
You may be delighted to know my DM lovingly encouraged me to find a way that he would accept a Harrow card which would grant him the boons and possibly drawbacks of lycanthropy - which he has accepted and become a natural-born lycanthrope through the magic of the card. Which pretty much only grants the benefits of the condition.
So there’s a very proficient wilderness wolf-man running around with a holy relic putting down evils of the undead variety in Ustalav now 👍
The ranger in question is also a Pharasmin (min? man?) so very interested in the notion of eschatalogy, in addition to that matter of The Order of the Divine Beast I know you favor so.
Also for visual reference, pretty much 100% borrowed the brimmed hat, dark all-weather coat, facial scarring and chain-smoking habit of this OC artwork of Evan Donoghue from Alex Zappa, which seems to suit the grim character and setting nicely 👌 https://alexxzappa.artstation.com/projects/R9BzE

Movie a thief in the night

#Movie a thief in the night movie#
I have taken this experience to fulfill a purpose, I am nearing my licensure as a Psychologist specializing in childhood trauma.Īs some other comments show, this movie might scare you, when you're a little child. I no longer fear the future, I have come to terms with the fear injected into it's members by the church. I actually began to believe this, it was my brother who reminded me, that this cultic philosophy actually happened. I once explained to a psychiatrist this movie and the belief system of the church and family. For years, I lived under the delusional affects of the church and fear of being forgotten by Christ. This movie, the church, and a volatile neglectful upbringing, lead to severe paranoia towards the future. It wasn't just the movie, but it was also the philosophy that engulfs so many "christians" about the "mark of the beast"and the rapture. This movie terrified my brother and I and shaped how we viewed the world with distrust. I was of the tender age of 6, my brother 4, then again when I was 8 my brother 6. I saw this movie twice through a pentecostal church my family attended in Nanaimo BC in the 1970's. I think I'm the only person in history to make that observation. It even has the SAME EXACT score of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I hate to admit it, but I still thoroughly enjoy watching this. The intriguing adventures of Patty and her journey throughout the tribulation (and two of the film's three sequels) tells her remarkable story of unbelief and ultimately damnation. What used to terrify me in junior high now makes me laugh. The film's premise is grounded in Pre-Millenial, pre-Tribulation eschatalogy, believing that Christ comes once for the secret taking of the true church, and then comes again at the end of the seven years of hell on earth. Instead of taking us to the dramatic scenes of this "post-rapture" tribulation, we sit in the living room, hearing about it on the news because the filmmakers can't afford to show it. What I love most about this genre is its incredible attention to detail, sitting in a living room. Jenkins would shake the world of the Christian subculture (and make millions in the process) with the LEFT BEHIND books, MARK IV Pictures, the Christian film distribution company of the Billy Graham evangelistic association, gave us this masterwork. And while I am able to keep an open mind about the overall subject of the film, from a critical and objective perspective I have to rate it as slightly below average. In short, if a person can get beyond some of the peculiarities I mentioned earlier, they might find this film interesting in its own way. Even so, this film created a stir within its targeted audience and resulted in 3 sequels: "A Distant Thunder", "Image of the Beast" and "The Prodigal Planet". Additionally, as the hairstyles and clothes clearly indicate, it is definitely dated to a time-period (late 60's & early 70's) which may not appeal to a more modern audience. Because of that, the acting is very basic and the dialogue will probably strike many as being a bit corny. Likewise, it is a low-budget production geared more for an evangelical outreach than for general entertainment purposes. As such, there may be many people who may not understand or appreciate this type of film. Now, as I stated earlier, this film follows a controversial belief of a certain segment of the Christian faith. On the other hand, her other two friends, "Diane Bradford" (Maryann Rachford) and her new husband "Jerry Bradford" (Thom Rachford) were also left behind and like Patty, they are now forced to deal with another fundamentalist event known as the "tribulation" which is essentially a hell on earth. So has her friend, "Jenny" (Colleen Niday). However, her husband, "Jim Wright" (Mike Niday) was recently converted and he has disappeared. In that regard, "Patty Myers" (Patty Dunning) is one of the many who is not taken up into heaven because she is not a Christian. This film follows the belief of certain fundamentalist Christians that an event known as the "rapture" will take place soon which will cause all true believers to disappear from the earth all at once.

On the movie titled The Passion of the Christ;
is there ANY MENTION WHATSOEVER of the Crucifixion being an aspect of the culture of Roman Slavery?
I never saw the movie; dont intend to.
Part of the rather dramatic happenings within a residential house in Clovis CA in 1996 or late 1995, I assume.
After I returned from Berkeley to Fresno/Clovis I went to live with my mother in Clovis. I visited my paternal grandparents and was informed my grandfather was dying of cancer. I took the advice contra participating in Opus Dei activities as a manifestation of that seemingly active prejudice against TradCath culture. In extreme form when it becomes schism, I reject it. But otherwise any educated or aesthetically inclined individual would most certainly object to the tacky wasteland of vernacular liturgical culture manifested in the Look Jane see Tom run type of language used. I would have preferred a pilfer of the Book of Common Prayer with some changes to reflect proper Catholic Liturgical belief; I did attend an Easter service once at an Episcopalian Cathedral in NYC, it was the most elaborate Catholic Mass Ive attended in the US. Bells Whistles and lots of incense.
geez look how I got lost
my intention was to describe the dire circumstances of mind which I suffered after all the dark happenings of the 1995-6 period
I couldnt even read the NT without some sense of inordinate fear and terror
that "alter christus" thing can get out of control and my mind went schizo through fear
it was the culmination of the most ill advised and incompetently allowed participation in eschatalogical events in history Im sure
no doubt its at some level of ecclesial rumor and gossip by this point
whatever I didnt ask for the infamy
