In the Frothing
“He comes by every week.”
“Wow,” Draco said, twisting the dial with a snarl, “that must mean something. Every week, to a coffee shop? One could almost think… oh no. What if—he may be an addict.”
All right, maybe he deserved the rolled tea towel to the back of the head. But come on, how much more of this was he supposed to endure? All his colleagues thought themselves mini detectives, of the French, moustachy kind, ever-observant and all-knowing. They didn’t know shit. And they didn’t know him.
“He only ever comes when you’re working,” Mary insisted, snatching the barely-ready cup out of Draco’s hands. “He always leaves a very generous tip.”
“Yes, yes, he’s somewhat of a saint.”
“And he always sits at the closest table.”
“Perhaps,” Draco thrust down the next tray so loud she jumped, “perhaps I am an escaped convict. And he, a law enforcement officer trailing me around the world.”
Mary quirked an eyebrow, but remained silent. Chewed her lip for a moment before bursting. “Pfft, you? An escaped convict? With those cheeks?” Draco was so shocked, he didn’t even flinch when she pinched one said cheek. “Right, we need another latte.”
He swallowed the array of insults he was too stunned to let out, and made a latte as told. “I’m—not a nice man,” was all he managed, and even that cost a great deal in froth. The latte was ruined. Never mind.
“You don’t have to be nice to go on a date,” Mary huffed, albeit delicately. “With a good-looking guy who just happens to like your scrawny, thirsty ass.”
Right. Delicacy went out the window, he supposed. “I don’t… you don’t understand. He knows me. Has known me forever. And I wasn’t always…” he didn’t know how to explain it. I used to be the worst human being you could possibly imagine? I was a child, and he my nemesis, and we hated each other to our very bones? We suffered at the same hands, and managed to have entirely different traumatic experiences?
“Draco…”
Shit. Shit, shit, there was a reason he didn’t get into this at work, a reason he kept to himself and didn’t allow the others’ theories of Potter—
“Draco.”
“What?”
“He’s—here.”
Shit.
His non-moustached pet-detective was right. There came Potter, straight to them, straight to—shit—where Draco was gaping, over-frothing the next bloody cappuccino. Whatever. No one came here because they expected good coffee.
“Malfoy,” he greeted, pleasant as always.
Mary was grinning behind the till, the cow. “What can I get you?”
“Malfoy knows my order,” Potter said. Draco could murder him.
“Flat white, triple shot, oat milk.” He hated himself for knowing it. “Just—move, let me type it.” For all he knew, Mary would try and give Potter a discount. As if he ever paid for his coffee.
“I’ll just be at the back,” she sang, eyebrows flying everywhere with a vengeance. Leaving the two of them alone. Potter leaned against the counter, watching Draco at the coffee machine as though it were the most riveting sight.
“So…” he fiddled with a plastic lid. “How’s it going?”
Draco closed his eyes. Then opened when the milk started spluttering. “I’m a little busy.”
“Of course, of course.” But he wouldn’t get off the counter, and wouldn’t stop staring. “I’ve just come from another briefing. You are currently in Romania, somewhere in the Carpathians, it seems. Living with an injured, wild dragon.”
“Sounds like me,” Draco mumbled into the cup.
“That’s what I thought. They’re not going to send anyone—I’ve convinced them it’d be unwise. In case you, you know, managed to train it or something.”
“Uh, is anyone—”
“I’ll be right with you,” Draco said through gritted teeth to the suit at the queue. Then spared a half-smile to Potter. “I am somewhat of a natural. With bloodthirsty wild animals.”
He made a sound, not unlike choking. “Yes. So… that’s only to say, I think you’re okay. For now.”
“How very gallant of you to inform me.” Draco placed the cup on the tray and pushed it towards the bloody git. “Here’s your drink. Don’t you dare leave a tip this time. Everybody already suspects.”
“Suspect—what, exactly?” an interesting development, rosy-coloured high on his cheeks.
“That you’re… I don’t know. Something mad. That you fancy me, or something.” The way Potter’s mouth opened should have been unattractive, was certainly alarming. “Not that—it’s only because, well, you’re English too, and you keep coming, and… shit, it’s not—”
“I, er,” Potter didn’t take the coffee, but didn’t move away either. “I’d… I mean. Suppose it’s not so mad for them to think that.”
“It is,” Draco assured him. The queue in front of the till now consisted of four people. He didn’t look in their direction. “Entirely mad.”
“Not mad. C’mon, Malfoy.”
“You ‘come on’.”
“I just—” his hand sent forward, but didn’t make it. Draco backed away so fast he bumped into the coffee machine, set the steam growling. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to—sorry.”
“You can’t just…”
“Excuse me?”
“He’ll be right with you!” Potter shouted the loudest. Draco closed his eyes again, unclenched his fists.
“We can’t talk here. It’s not…”
“You’re right. How about I meet you after your shift? Ends at five, right? I’ll come pick you up. We’ll go for a—”
“If you say coffee, I’ll strangle you.”
Potter, for whatever reason, laughed. “Dinner then. If that’s—is that okay?”
“Yes!” said a voice that wasn’t Draco’s. Mary was back, still grinning like an idiot. “Yes, he’ll go out with you. Five thirty, wear something slutty. What? You know you’d have said yes.”
“Would… would you?”
It was the uncertainty that made him speak. That look on Potter’s face, damn it. “Fine. Half five then. Don’t be late.”
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
Draco ran to the backroom, before Mary got the chance to drown him in ‘I told you so’s.

Veritaserum Prompt Fic (Part 11)
Azkaban wasn't great.
It was pretty fucking awful, if Draco was being honest. He kept himself as far back from the bars of the cell as he could, the closer he got, the worse it was when a dementor drifted past.
Maybe the Department of Mysteries was a better alternative to Azkaban. At least when he was trapped there he had the refuge of sleep. Here, even his dreams were tortured; the dementors' presence warped the images of Harry and the cottage, destroying the memories over and over in increasingly horrifying ways.
On the other hand, there was a small slit of a window that let in sunlight. He curled himself into a ball as close to the sunlight as he could and tried to think of his time on the beach, of the sun and the sand, of Harry's warm smile and his hair slipping through his fingers. As long as he focused really hard on it, as long as he didn't fall asleep, he could hold onto a few pieces of beauty at a time.
Draco wasn't sure how long he'd been there when a silver fox patronus came racing through, so bright that the dementors were chased off and Draco could breathe again.
The fox moved through the bars and placed itself between Draco and the door and he couldn't help but where it had come from. The only person he could imagine sending a patronus to him was Harry but everyone knew that Harry Potter's patronus was a stag.
And yet, "I'm getting you out," Harry's voice said through the patronus and Draco's heart stuttered.
He waited for the fox to vanish but the light didn't waver, Harry was still protecting him it seemed, keeping the dementors at bay.
(Read more below the cut)
Nothing changed for six days.
The warden came by multiple times to try to banish the patronus but the fox remained stubbornly at Draco's side. It all felt a bit surreal but Draco certainly wasn't going to complain.
After six days, the reporters started coming. "Mr. Malfoy, I work for the Daily Prophet," the first witch who arrived informed him, "Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?"
"I haven't got much else on at the moment," he attempted. "But I'm surprised they let you in."
"Then you underestimate how much influence Harry Potter really has."
"Harry wanted you to come here?" he asked, heart beating a little faster.
She straightened her shoulders and took out her notebook and quill, "Mr. Potter is saying that everything printed about you after your return to Azkaban is a lie. What do you say?"
"I don't know," he replied, "What's been said? I haven't gotten any papers in here, as you might expect."
The witch leaned closer to the bars, as though she was telling him some sort of secret, "He said that you didn't slip him a love potion, you didn't have him under any sort of spell, there was nothing nefarious at play."
"That's correct." But he couldn't imagine that she would believe him, even if he had been using a spell or a potion he would have said the same thing.
Her brow furrowed, "He said you were living on a secluded island before you turned yourself in and that you're in love."
"Yes," he affirmed softly.
"Then why did you leave?"
He sighed, "Because if anyone deserved to live in the wizarding world, it's the person who saved it."
She nodded, "Do you have any idea what's happening in the wizarding world right now?"
"No," he replied flatly, "They don't really let us out to see the world."
"So you're saying that this wasn't all part of some elaborate plan?"
"Sorry, what's going on?" he asked, feeling off kilter and a bit frustrated. "What plan?"
The woman stared at him for a long moment, "Harry Potter seems to be trying to bring the Ministry to its knees," she said. "He started by talking about you, then by telling the story of his godfather's wrongful conviction, and continued to tell story after story about people who've been falsely accused and convicted."
Draco felt like his eyebrows must be reaching his hairline by this point. "No," he shook his head, "No, I had no idea."
"What about the reports on ministry officials?" she asked, ignoring his response and pressing on to the next question. "Your father had a variety of connections, surely you gave him at least some of information about the officials he's blowing in."
He shook his head again, "No, I had nothing to do with that." He chuckled humorlessly, "I was raised to keep secrets until the opportune moment and to use them to apply pressure to get what I wanted."
She hummed, "It seems to me that Mr. Potter is doing exactly that."
------------------
The reporters continued coming. He had multiple visits a day over the next three days and every reporter asked similar questions.
Draco tried to understand what was happening in the wizarding world from the interviews he did, but it was hard to believe that there could be protests and rallies at the Ministry demanding his freedom.
He'd gone to sleep the third night, Harry's fox curled up on the bottom of the flimsy pad, watching the door, only to be awoken by his cell door banging open.
"Up Malfoy," the human guard who worked overnights said.
He startled, sitting up and curving inward to protect himself. "What?"
"Get up," the man barked.
The patronus placed itself between Draco and the other man and Draco's heart started to beat to rapidly.
"Now," he said, grabbing Draco's arm and dragging him out of bed.
"Where are you taking me?" he asked as the man shoved him down the hall and out toward the main entrance.
"Your time is up," the man said, thrusting a dirty shoe into Draco's hands.
Before he could ask anything else, he was being ripped through time and space, and all he could imagine was ending up somewhere even worse. They were probably going to kill him and-
His feet hit the groan and he barely had time to register sand under his feet before arms were wrapped around him, pulling him in and holding him close. The sound of waves crashing to the shore, the scent of the salt water in the air mixed with the comforting scent of Harry's body. He sagged forward, a sob escaping his throat.
"Draco," Harry murmured, cupping his face in his hands and kissing him all over, covering his cheeks, his nose, his lips, his chin, even his eyelids. "Are you hurt? Did they hurt you?" he asked.
He shook his head but couldn't get any words out.
"Come on," Harry whispered, rubbing his hands along Draco's arms, "you're shaking. Let's go inside."
Harry led him by the hand up the beach and into the little cottage, the fire was lit in the hearth and there were two cups of tea sitting on the coffee table, a plate of ginger biscuits in between.
"Do you want to get changed?" Harry asked.
"I-" Draco started before breaking off, "Sorry. What's happening? Harry, how am I here? The guard just gave me this stupid shoe and I don't-"
"The Ministry signed your release paperwork," Harry said. "They wouldn't let me come to get you, they aren't very pleased with me at the moment," he added. "I'm sort of banned from any official Ministry buildings now," he said, sounding oddly pleased.
"What happened?"
Harry looked at him longingly, "Later?" he begged. "Can I just-" he broke off stepping closer and crowding him against the wall, kissing him and crushing their bodies together. Holding him like he didn't care that Draco was smelly and hadn't been allowed to shower since arriving at Azkaban.
"Harry," he groaned, tilting his head back as Harry pressed kisses along his jaw and neck.
"Hmm?"
His fingers tugged Harry's hair until he tipped his head up far enough that he could kiss him again for a long moment. "Am I allowed to stay here?" he asked.
"Yeah," Harry breathed, nodding his head, their noses brushing against each other's. "You can go anywhere, do anything," he added. "We're free."
Draco shuddered as the words washed over him, the relief cool and bright. "Okay," he said. "First things first. I need a shower," he said.
Harry groaned, "Why does that have to be the first thing?"
He laughed, "I'm filthy."
"I don't care," he muttered petulantly.
"Come with me," Draco invited.
Harry pulled back far enough to wiggle his eyebrows, "I'll do my best."
--------------------
Later, after they'd showered off all of the dirt and grime, erasing all physical evidence of the week and a half they'd spent apart. After Harry had taken Draco apart; kissing him and touching him, healing all of the darkness that the prison had left seeped in his bones. After they'd eaten dinner curled up on the sofa together and drunk the tea he'd made and ate far too many biscuits. After they'd stumbled together through the house and crawled into bed. After Harry had laid him bare once more and kissed every inch of him, as though Draco was something treasured, something precious. Draco began to cry again.
"Hey," Harry whispered, moving back to the top of the bed where he kissed away Draco's tears, "What's wrong? Are you alright?"
He grabbed his shoulders and pulled his body down on top of him, allowing the familiar, welcome weight of his body to ground him. "I love you," he whispered through all of the emotions swamping him.
"I love you, too," Harry murmured, stroking his hair back and pressing a kiss to his forehead. "So much."
"Why?" Draco asked.
"Why do I love you?" he asked, sounding surprised by the questions.
Shaking his head he replied, "Why did the Ministry let me go? Why would they do that?"
Harry sighed and nuzzled into Draco's neck, "Because I know their secrets."
"What?"
He shrugged, "I did some digging when I had access to the Department of Mysteries information," he said in between kisses pressed to his neck, "so I just started exposing corruption that I'd found. People wanted to listen to what I had to say so I told them. Then people started protesting and here we are."
"So you blackmailed the Ministry into releasing me?"
Harry hummed, "Not really. I just helped the Ministry to see the error of their ways and be held accountable for the ways they've failed the people they were supposed to protect and serve."
"I can't believe you."
"Hmm?" Harry hummed, brushing his nose over Draco's collarbone.
"I can't believe you did that," he said. "How dare you have the audacity to love me that much?"
"Me?" Harry gasped, jerking up onto his elbows and looking at Draco like he was actually offended by Draco's words. "How dare I? What about you?" he exclaimed. "Draco you loved me so much that you were willing to go to prison for the rest of your life!"
"But you deserve to be loved that much," he protested.
"So do you!" Harry sat up, straddling his hips and glaring down at him. "I will spend the rest of my life proving it to you," he added. "If you'll let me."
He cupped Harry's cheek in his palm, "I'll let you. I haven't got another brave bone in my body."
"Good," Harry said. "Because I'm sick to death of people and their invasive questions. And if I never have to talk to a member of the press again it will be too soon. And I'm tired of having to protect myself from the ministry and playing their games," he grumbled.
He buried his face in Draco's neck again and Draco let his fingers stroke through Harry's still damp curls, heedless of the way it would make them frizzy.
"I hate everyone who isn't you," Harry mumbled.
"Well not everyone, I hope," Draco replied as he rubbed a lock of hair between his fingers, "I went through a lot of trouble to make it possible for you to be with your friends and family whenever you want," he teased.
Harry huffed a laugh, "It's ridiculous that you're making a joke about this right now. I have never been more terrified in my life."
"Oh come on," Draco said, "You literally died."
"I had a panic attack," Harry said, "When I thought I'd never see you again. I walked straight to my death without a backward glance." He pressed impossibly closer, "When I tell you I've never been more terrified in my life, I mean it."
"Harry," he murmured, awestruck.
The other man yawned and snuggled in. "But it's fine now," he said. "You're here and I'm here, and the Ministry is burning."
"Do we need to go back?" Draco asked.
Harry shook his head, "Hermione's taking care of it. She has better legal avenues and it's honestly more her thing than mine anyway."
"We can stay here for a while, then?"
"In bed?" Harry asked sleepily.
He chuckled, "On the island," he clarified.
Harry nodded, "as long as you want. Everything's on fire in Wizarding London anyway, it's a complete shit show. They wouldn't give us a moment's peace."
"I'd like a little peace," Draco replied.
He felt Harry's smile against his shoulder, "A little peace," he echoed. "A little happiness."
"More than a little, if we're lucky."
Harry nodded, "We're due for a bit of luck, aren't we?"
He pressed a kiss to Harry's forehead, "I don't need luck when I've got you."
And no matter what life threw at them, they knew how to weather the storm; clinging to one another and the life they built on their love.

Falling in love with Draco as A Gryffindor (Draco x reader)
Side note: HAHAHAHAHAAAAA
Tumblr media
You were a firey little thing, you.
Draco noticed you when you went to go get something from the cart
And oh boy he fell hard
He sat there in that great hall "Please be Slytherin please be--" "GRYFFINDOR!" "oh come on."
You ended up spending a lot of time with Fred and George, those two were practically your best friends.
Draco noticed you, always seeing that smile on your face as you talked to Hermoine.
He would usually find Hermione with you.
She would be trying to make you study and you'd be doodling or doing origami instead.
Draco would smile to himself as he would hear your giggles from Hermione's frustration.
Course he'd never admit that. God no.
He was always a class A dick to you and the trio
Then there was the "TROLLLLL IN THE DUNGEEEOONNN"
And you were forced to sit in your common room with the Slytherins.
"Bet one of the Slytherin kids let it in as a joke." Fred yawned.
You shook your head and leaned to him
"There's no way, none of them have the brain cells for that." You said making both of the twins snicker
Still though, something felt off. Really off.
"Hey wait a minute... Where's Harry and Ron-- Where's Hermione!?" You asked making the entire common room silent.
Mcgonagall was shocked when she was made aware of the situation.
Course when they all came back you started asking questions like "So you took down a troll... How do you feel besides absolutely epic?"
Christmas rolled around and you stayed with Fred, George, Ron and Harry
Molly made you a sweater and you usually wore it if you were cold.
Draco didn't go home for some reason and you took notice.
"Yo. Draco." You said walking over. "Oh God, what do you want?" He asked.
You rolled your eyes. "I wanted to say Merry Christmas. Here." You said handing him a paper crane.
He took it and stared at it for a while as you walked away.
"Y/n." He called. You rose a brow.
"merry Christmas." He said making you smile.
His heart almost beat out his damn chest and he quickly turned back around.
He found a note though on it's wing
"you should try smiling once in a while, I've seen you do it and it's nice."
Draco turned back around and you gave a wave with a laugh.
He shook his head... But he smiled.
And that's when your heart went "BAM. YOU LIKE THIS BOY NOW."
When the school year ended you walked over to Draco.
"Hey. Draco." You said making him turn around.
"What L/n?" He asked. "Write to me sometime. I'm usually bored over the summer." You said giving him your address.
He blinked a few times as you walked away.
Well he actually did. His letters at first were more aggressive
"Why in the world would you give me your address?!"
"Seriously why?"
Then over time as you wrote back he actually became... Likable.
He actually formed inside jokes with you and was actually... Friendly
The week before school you both had a much needed conversation though
"So I take it I'm going to be ignored when I say hello to you?"
"Why would you assume that?"
"Because a Gryffindor fraternizing with a Slytherin? Isn't that... Beneath you?"
"You're my friend Y/n I really don't care."
So when he saw you in Diagon Alley you said hi and he gave you this "DON'T COMMUNICATE WITH ME" stare making you confused
That's when you saw his father and was like "Oooohhh. He's terrifying!"
What you didn't realize is that you said that out loud
And you immediately had to duck behind Fred who was walking by.
"Hey Y/n what are you--" "SHHH. YOU DON'T SEE ME!"
He looked at Lucius malfoy and then you and nodded.
"Gotcha." He nodded before George stood in the way of Lucius' view.
"So what did you do?" Fred asked.
"Accidentally looked at him and said 'oh he's terrifying!' out loud." You mumbled.
Fred laughed and George snorted.
When he left you sighed with so much relief before you felt someone tap your shoulder.
"Imsorry-- Draco! Hi!" You said panicked.
He rolled his eyes with a chuckled. "I wanted to make sure that was you. Father has a problem with me talking to Gryffindors." He said.
"Ohhh." You nodded before Fred turned around. "You two are getting along? Damn I must've drank something strange this morning" he said making you shake your head.
"I have to go, will you sit on the train with me?" He asked. "Yeah sure!" You nodded. He walked towards the door "Y/n." He said making you turn back around. "It's good to see you." He said sincerely.
Your face turned so red and George laughed. "Someone has a CRUSSHHH!" He said making you smack him. "Shut it!" You hushed.
You did sit with him on the train, laughing at some stupid joke.
Harry walked by and then froze.
"Are you... Actually--" "Harry join us!" You said.
"What!?" Both of the boys said. "Join us! We're having fun and you two need to get along, join us!" You said.
"But--" you shot them both death glares and some how some way you actually ended up having fun.
Harry could almost find Draco... Enjoyable!?
None of you had any idea on how bad this year would be
Your father's a wizard. Your mother... She isn't.
When the chamber of secrets opened oh boy...
Draco was a nervous wreck, every other class period he'd be walking you to it.
"Draco, really I'm fine-- We CAN SIGN UP FOR QUIDDITCH THIS YEAR!?"
So uhm... Funny story you ended up on the quidditch team.
You stood in for Harry when he couldn't play, which was a lot more common than expected
Honestly? You could give Harry a run for his money.
The only issue? Draco hated competing with you in a setting as brutal as that could be.
Didn't stop him from playing as hard as he did though.
Then that bitch Lavender decided to hex your broom.
"WOAH!" You said flying. Draco noticed you jolt and nearly fall. "SHIT!" you gasped as you nearly fell off it, seeing the golden glint beneath you. That's when you had a plan.
You let go.
You naturally hit the ground hard, you sprained your wrist
But then you held up that snitch and the crowd went WILD
Your wrist was fine within a week so you weren't worried.
Draco acted pissed but truth be told: he was happy you were okay.
Then it happened. You had studied with Hermoine until you two were booted from the library.
You forgot something and turned back, walking as fast as you could because to be honest, the castle kind of scared you at night.
You left a magnifying glass, you used it because of the fact that THE TEXT WAS TOO SMALL (seriously who can read that small?)
That's when you saw this reflection on the glass and you blacked out.
The next morning everyone found out about it, Draco was losing his shit and told Harry to "FIGURE THIS OUT! PLEASE!"
That was the first anyone had heard him say "please" and he was basically thrown into the investigation.
He was there for it all, Gilderoy being a complete MORON, Fawkes, the chamber-- Draco was there.
When you finally came to the first words out of your mouth was "BASILISK!"
Draco booked it to you when he found out you were awake and he hugged you.
"Woah woah woah-- what happened to you, you look like hell?" You asked.
"Found the chamber of secrets-- that's not important, you're awake!" He said.
"Yeah-- wait what?"
So you spent that summer at the Weasley's and my God was it fun
You, Fred and George had a blast together
Then came news that Sirius Black escaped from prison
Draco was panicked when he found out that he was possibly near hogwarts
Letter after letter he was basically begging you "Homeschool. Please. I almost went insane when you were attacked by a basilisk, now there's a convict on the loose"
To which you were like: "I'm not homeschooling, Draco I've got you, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred and George, I think I'll be fine!"
He found you in the leaky cauldron and while he was happy to see you he was also worried sick about you being here.
Everyone at Hogwarts was treating you like a child playing in traffic and it began to piss you off.
The only person treating you normally was Cedric after he found you kicking a tree.
"Woah there, that tree didn't hit you did it?" Cedric asked.
"What?" You asked confused.
"I'm genuinely paranoid about the plants on this property because of the whomping willow, did this tree attack you?" Cedric asked making you laugh.
"No no... I'm just angry that's all." You sighed.
"Really? Why?" Cedric asked.
"Well... Everyone's been treating me like a little kid because I was amongst the few who was petrified." You said.
"Ohhh." Cedric nodded.
He listened to you talk and he told you if you ever needed to get away from everything you were welcome to go to Hufflepuff's common room
Fun fact: Draco felt jealous for the first time
He saw you two hanging out by the lake and he just felt so jealous.
"What's with Draco?" Fred asked, noticing him being grouchy.
"he's been like that all day." Ron said.
"Probably because Y/n and Cedric started hanging out." Hermione said.
"What?" Everyone asked.
"I was walking by and heard them talking. She's tired of us basically treating her like she's a walking hazard. She has a point, we've been hard on her." Hermione agreed.
So they all eased up on it but Draco was still upset and wouldn't tell you why.
"Draco can you please just talk to me!?" You asked.
"I don't want to talk, I'm going to my room." He said.
You began to feel really hurt by this and then that damn lesson came along on Boggarts.
It got to you and it turned into Draco just... Leaving?
You stared at it for a while and Remus just handled it before you took off.
Draco thought that the boggart was just him so of course be was genuinely worried.
He went after you and found you having a meltdown.
"Y/n." He said kneeling to you.
"I'm sorry." You whimpered.
"I don't know what I did but I'm sorry Draco."
It was then that he realized what your boggart actually was.
You were afraid of him leaving you.
He never left your side again from that point on.
Draco began to sit at the Gryffindor table more and people of course took notice.
No one dared to comment on it though because uhm.
Draco could be scary when he wanted to be.
Course when he cried like a little bitch because Buckbeak attacked him that wasn't intimidating.
"I swear, you treat me like a child but you're the dumbass that just walked up to a Hippogriff!" You sighed.
"You're the one that managed to fall walking up the stairs. HOW DO YOU FALL WALKING UP THE STAIRS!?"
Madame Pomfrey had to listen to this argument the entire time
Hogsmeade was the best
You, the trio, Draco, Fred and George all having a blast
Snowball fights and butterbeer
Sitting around telling jokes
Then witnessing Harry have a break down because he found out Sirius was a friend of his parents'.
You all comforted him, fuck even Draco felt bad.
When you all got back to school you all agreed to stay in groups in case that bastard really was lurking around.
Then came Lucius going "Well that creature just tried to hurt my son so... Let's kill it"
You were PISSED.
You actually had to be pulled back and you were kicking and screaming.
That's when Hermione said "I have a time turner!" And you were like "Well shit why didn't you say something BEFORE I INSULTED MY BEST FRIEND'S DAD"
Draco went all protective mode and was like "Guys I don't think this is a good idea--"
And then he was dragged into this adventure too.
So You didn't expect Harry to produce a patronus
you didn't expect Remus to be housing a convict
You didn't expect Remus to be a werewolf
And you didn't expect that damn rat to be an actual PERSON
Your head was spinning and by the end of that night you felt like you were insane
"So... Never talk about this again?" You asked.
Everyone exchanged glances
"Agreed." They all said in unison.
Summer was again, really fun.
You spent it with the Weasley's and you helped Fred and George with their business
You were always writing to Draco in your free time
And uhm...
Sometimes Draco would sneak out and go to you guys.
Molly enjoyed having him over and promised not to say anything about him being there
Arthur and Molly both recognized that look whenever he'd look at you though
That was love.
Both of you would whisper things to each other and then laugh
Molly would smile to herself knowing damn well that you two liked each other.
When he left one day you were helping Molly with cleaning.
"So how long have you liked him?" Molly asked making you almost drop a plate.
"Wha- no-- I-- uhm-- That's absolutely crazy-- I--" you saw the "You're really going to lie?" Look on Arthur's face as he put down the paper. "... How'd you know?" You asked.
"It's quite obvious darling." Molly said.
"Well to everyone but the boy." Arthur said.
You both asked them not to say anything and they agreed
You all went to the world quidditch game and had to pretend to hate Draco.
Course he wasn't the biggest fan of Cedric being there with you
Course the group noticed the smiles and flirty glances from you two across the damn stadium.
When it ended you were hanging out with Ginny when Draco ran in.
"You all need to leave." He said out of breath.
"What's going on son?" Arthur asked.
"Death eaters, everywhere. They're scaring the locals-- it isn't good." He said.
"What about you!?" You asked.
"I'll be fine Y/n, go." Draco said.
You hesitated but he put a hand on your cheek and looked into your eyes.
"Go." He said.
You and the Weasleys booked it and got the fuck out of Dodge
You all made it back to the burrow and were exhausted.
Draco snuck out to you guys and you hugged him immediately after seeing him.
That's when it clicked for the rest of the crew that "Ohhh so she likes him likes him."
The school year began with talks of something weird going on
Then the cup was introduced and you just got this gut feeling something was wrong
Fred and George were hellbent on getting their names in that goblet though
Draco stood there next to you watching those two jackasses try to put their names in to the goblet
You were standing next to a statue and his elbow was resting above you as you both laughed as those two not only failed but were launched back and taken off by Madame Pomfrey.
You two laughed and then looked at each other and just... Something changed. Something in you just nearly fell apart looking at that boy and your words were just jumbled.
You two spent most of your free time together though, always laughing or you showing him how to do origami.
Then came finding out who was going to be in the trials
Fluer, Viktor, Cedric and Harry-- wait what
Ron got upset but you could tell this wasn't planned and was bad.
Harry accepted it though.
Hermione had a little buddy following her around though
Viktor.
Nice kid, really. But did he have to be here all the time!?
You finally just decided to start studying with Draco.
Then came one day where Cedric sat with you and Draco had to deal with it.
It became a regular thing.
Then the second trial came and you were the one Cedric had to retrieve
When he came back up you both were out of breath and soaked.
Draco ran over and helped you up.
"So there's a Yule ball coming up." Cedric said making you look up. "Yeah?" You asked, slightly shivering from the weather. Cedric noticed the "Don't you fucking dare" look on Draco's face.
"Would you like to go with Draco?" Cedric asked.
Draco opened his mouth for a threat but when he realized what Cedric actually said he just started blushing.
"Uhm... Sorry did you just ask... Me... To go with... Draco?" You asked.
"Yep." Cedric nodded.
"Did you two plan this out or something?" You asked.
"Yes." Cedric said.
Draco was still reeling. "Uhm... Y-Yeah we did." He lied.
"Then... Yeah sure." You nodded with a laugh.
And so Draco was spending even MORE time with you.
The dance class was so much fun to you
Plus, Draco you being close didn't hurt either.
SO MUCH FUN! RIGHT!?
You both danced with giggles and exchanging smiles.
The Yule ball finally happened and Draco was at a loss of words when you and Hermione both walked down together.
"Y/n... Wow." Was all the poor guy could muster.
You smiled and tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear
You two danced for a bit, smiling at each other
Then you two walked through the grounds and Draco gave you his coat.
You looked at him and something just took over
You kissed him.
You two started dating from that point on
Draco would walk you from class to class even if his classes were on the other side of the school
Everyone loved seeing you two so happy.
It was now a common occurrence to see you two in the library together
He'd be doing origami while you studied.
Draco loved seeing that focused look
Course he always made sure you weren't too stressed too
The two of you had no idea how bad the next few years would become
Part 2 coming soon

Draco x Reader- Caged
could i request an angsty draco x reader where they get into a fight right before the battle,, and draco chooses to stay with hogwarts and voldemort tries to kill him but the reader jumps in front of him last minute and somehow survives? super angsty but fluffy ending please 🥺
A/N: IM GOING TO BE HONEST. I completely forgot the fluffy ending once I started writing. I am sorry for what you are about to read only because I even made myself a bit sad.
Draco’s silver eyes were filled with fear as he held you close, hands warm and shaking against your hips as his heart pounded against your chest. Nuzzling his forehead against yours he let his heavy eyelids shut for a second, eyelashes brushing against your cheeks. “Promise me you’ll be safe?” He begged, tugging you closer. His voice was only a whisper.
You chewed nervously on your lips, arms strung around his shoulders, fingers tangled in his shining locks. “I’ll be safer with you by my side,” You croaked, voice hoarse and eyes stinging as tears threatened to fall.
Draco’s breath hitched and squeezed your hips tighter, trying to ground himself. He shook his head, nose bumping against yours, lips so close. Even being near to the one he loved most didn’t bring comfort. “You know what I have to do... Please, just let me do it. It’s the best option, the only option,”
“I don’t care!” You whined, moving your head to lie in the crook of his neck. “I don’t care what sort of option it is, I can’t have you risking your life. I can’t lose you,”
Draco smiled softly, letting his fingers run through the silky tendrils of your hair.  “Aren’t we all risking our lives in one way or another? I don’t want to lose you either but if I side with Potter then I am putting you and my mother at risk... Whatever happens to me, happens. But the world needs Y/N Y/L/N. Let me do this for you, for us,” He begged as you pulled away, his hand snatching yours. He wasn’t ready to be parted.
Your eyes were burning with tears, the collar of his shirt damp from the few that had escaped and were continuing to run down your cheeks. “The worlds need you too, I need you. If you go to him then you are damned... Why not fight for what’s right?”
“More is at stake than my life...” Draco tried to get you to see reason. If he stuck by you, then you would be cast under the same deadly shadow as him and Voldemort would not be merciful. Of course he hoped that the future would be brighter once the war ended, but for now he needed to risk his reputation so that you could stay safe.
“You already said it Draco,” You fought back, “We are all risking our lives anyway, why not be by the people you love? A-and your mother! She can run, your father will take care of her. Please do the same and let me take care of you, let me protect you,” Your hands were back in his hair, brushing the unruly tendrils from his eyes that had dimmed significantly since the first time you had first seen Draco Malfoy, a beautiful, if obnoxious, eleven year old boy without a care in the world.
“Damn you,” Draco cursed with no conviction as he sagged against you. “I-I’ll stay with you if it’s what you want, but at the first sign of any danger I need you to promise that you will get out of there and go wherever is safest. Promise me and then I will stay,”
“Nowhere is safe,” You pointed out and Draco squeezed your shoulders hard as he forced you apart from him, eyes burning in yours.
“Promise me,” He demanded. “I won’t let you lose your life because of me,”
“I promise,” You finally conceded, kissing him like it could take away all the wrong in the world.
“Thank you,” Draco sighed against your lips. “I love you,”
You hadn’t known that the last time you would kiss him would be with a lie sitting sour in your mouth.
--
Lucius could see that Draco was glued to your side, unwilling to fall into Voldemort’s open arms. His grip on his wife tightened. “It’s time for us to go,” He whispered low, eyes following the Dark Lord as he stood before his followers and enemies, for anyone who didn’t side with him was an enemy.
“But-” Narcissa argued but Lucius silenced her with another squeeze to her quivering shoulders.
“He cannot be used as a pawn, which means our deaths, we must go,” Lucius hissed and his wife slowly came to the same understanding as he had. If Draco was loyal to Voldemort, then they would remain loyal as well, the threat of their only son’s possible death motivation enough. Yet, Draco had made his decision to stand against Voldemort and that meant they needed to make one as well.
Even if they were dedicated to- trapped by- Voldemort’s cause now, who was to say they would be for much longer? Voldemort was intelligent, knowing more than most how powerful love for a child could be. Narcissa and Lucius would become examples to Draco for his refusal. “Let us before, before they realize,” Lucius instructed, eyeing his fellow death eaters and feeling none of the kinship he once had as a young member.
With one final glance towards her son, Narcissa vanished with her husband, having disapparated from the war zone.
--
You had looked away for just a second but that had been long enough to lose Draco. Chaos had erupted, spells and hexes and unforgivable curses flying through the air as everyone fought for their own lives and for the future. Death Eaters were killing their children’s friends, boys and girls were killing adults they had never met once in their lives. Some of the younger students stuck near to the teachers, not knowing spells advanced enough to get them out alive.
“Draco!” you screamed through the din of Hogwarts crumbling. Your eyes burned with the dust that had accumulated, the debris sending plumes of it up into the already stifling air.
You ran past people you considered friends and men you knew to be your enemies. You dodged spells and cast your own, heart pounding with a a rhythmic beat that felt like a prelude to a death march.
Finally spotting a familiar shock of platinum your legs rocketed forward but nearly buckled when they saw what faced Draco. Voldemort was standing not ten feet from him, wand held by skeletal fingers. Two death eaters flanked him and they pulled out their own weapons once they saw you arrive.
“Get out of here,” Draco bit out, not needing to turn around to see that it was you. He could smell your perfume even if it was muffled by the tang of sweat and the gritty blanket of dust that covered you.
“No,” You said simply, reaching for his hand.
Draco’s heart dropped. You had promised, damn it!
Voldemort began to laugh, thin lips stretched across his features as his yellowing teeth made an appearance, jaw opening wide as if he was a snake. It was unnerving, his laughter sent chills down your spine and the look of him was inhuman. “It appears I will be killing two birds with one stone tonight,”
Your heart was stuck in your throat. “Y-You mean your men will be killing tonight. You wouldn’t do it yourself, coward,” You provoked him to tear his beady eyes away from Draco.
“Y/N,” Draco hissed low in the back of his throat, “Don’t,”
“You’re just a scrap of what you used to be,” You continued, ignoring how Draco squeezed your hand uncomfortably, blunt nails digging into your clammy palm. “For hell’s sake, an infant destroyed you. How does that feel? To know that one boy, one insignificant boy has ruined everything you are, year after year ever since the day he survived,”
Voldemort’s sickening grin grew into a scowl and the veins began to stand out through his pale complexion. His grip tightened on his wand. “You know nothing of the horrors I have wreaked on this pathetic world, girl. His voice grated against your nerves like nails on a chalkboard but you kept your shoulders square, eyes forward. You took half a step forward, Draco didn’t notice.
“It will be a pleasure to kill you,” Voldemort continued. “I will find far more pleasure in killing you before your heart even stops beating. There isn’t only one way to end someone’s life,”
Your eyebrows drew together in confusion for only a second before Voldemort was facing you, wand pointed directly between your eyes. With a flick of his wrist you found yourself immobilized, eyes stuck open as your body went stiff as a board. Your hand was stuck around Draco’s but the comfort had vanished. Your stone like body had rendered him stuck with you even as he tugged violently.
Draco lifted his wand to mutter a counter to your petrified state but with another flick from the bony wrist of He Who Must Not Be Named, his wand was flying high into the sky and far out of reach.
Despite your state, words unable to come from your frozen throat, Voldemort’s attention was on you. “Who is a coward?” He asked only once before with a vicious grin he was pointing his wands toward Draco. Your boyfriend was still trapped, struggling against you and fear in his eyes.
“I-I can still free us,” He promised, not realizing the danger he was in. You tried all you could but your hand was still frozen around his fingers, unrelenting in their grip. You were caged in your body and nothing would budge. Your key was Draco’s wand that lay too far away.
This was nothing like when you and your third year friends had been goofing around, freezing students on their way to classes, knowing the effects would wear off in minutes. Voldemort was skilled and you had no idea how long you would be frozen. You couldn’t even cry, you realized. Your mind was screaming and pounding against every nerve that had been shut down. Begging for something, anything, to shift and set you free.
Draco was still struggling, promising he’d help you when Voldemort cried, “Avada Kedavra!” He didn’t have time to move, didn’t have time to prepare as the curse hit him, his silver eyes flashing once as they found yours. Then, the spark was gone and Draco Malfoy was hanging limp by your vice grip. Dead.
You watched as Voldemort grinned, prepared to be next. Yet, the beast turned on his heel, his men following after him as you were left in your place, clinging to Draco.
“I can still free us, we won’t be stuck here Y/N, just give me a moment,” Draco had been saying before his voice had been stolen from him. He didn’t even see death sneaking towards him, he had only been focused on making sure you were okay.
Your eyes were fixed forward, unblinking. Yet you could feel the boy you loved growing cold in your hand, his weight heavy against your stiff leg. To see him might be too much. Within the prison that your body had become you were throwing yourself against the cage of your bones, screaming at the muscles and nerves to just fucking work.
He can’t be dead. I just need to move and see him and he’ll be fine, he’s just unconscious, he’s fine. You kept telling yourself, even if you knew it wasn’t true. Draco’s still alive, my lovely Draco is still alive.
You would be found by McGonagall once Harry rose from the ashes victorious, your weak body collapsed on top of Draco’s lifeless one. She’d bite her tongue, dragging you up with a strength she had to force. “Come now dear, there is nothing more we can do,” She’d say but you would only be able to reply with one truth that would haunt you every day for the rest of your life.
“It was my fault,”
Over and over, as the years passed. The same four words as you were forced into St. Mungo’s with no argument, sitting stagnant and letting other’s keep you alive, your own will gone.
After all, there was more than one way to end someone’s life.

Drarry Fics to Quarantine to: Below you’ll find 20k+ Drarry fics that will make you want to scream, cry, pace around your living space, and laugh to
🐍 Vortex by @xanthippe74 (20k) Soulmate AU / EWE
“Don’t worry, my dearest one,” Draco’s mother told him when he confided his worries to her. When he was old enough to feel the pangs of adolescent longing, but still too young to sense the storm gathering around them. “Magic will overcome any distance or obstacles to bring two soulmates together when the time is right. Circumstances will arise that steer them in the right direction; strange coincidences will make their paths cross again and again. Then the most wondrous moment arrives, when you both realize that your soulmate, your perfect match, stands before you, and from that day forward your hearts will be one.”
Ten years after that conversation, the idea of perfectly-matched soulmates feels more like a curse than a blessing to Draco. Who would want a soulmate who was a schoolyard bully, a Death Eater, and a convicted felon? Certainly not Harry Potter. And Draco is determined to take this secret to the grave.
🦁 Evitative by @k-vichan (222k) Slytherin Harry / Slow burn
In the summer before his fifth year at Hogwarts, Harry is drawn to a room in Grimmauld Place. Like the Gryffindor he is, he enters the room without fear. The room is a library, and Harry is surprised to find that he’s eager to learn.
Then he gets the bad news: he’s been accidentally expelled from Hogwarts, and he needs to be sorted again. Everyone is confident that he’ll go straight back to Gryffindor, but with what he's been learning, Harry’s not so sure.
🐍 Nice Things by aideomai (22k) Hogwarts 8th year / Touch-starved boys
The first thing that happened was Theodore Nott came back from France.
This officially put the number of eighth year students up to seven across three different houses, which was, according to McGonagall, quorum, and meant that the school would no longer simply add a few beds to their existing dormitories. Instead, the eighth years would be given their own lodgings. You will be welcomed, McGonagall wrote in a letter that accompanied the standard supply list, and lodged in the Gatehouse.
🦁 survival is a talent by @shanastoryteller (338k+) Soulmate AU / Found family
In the middle of their second year, Draco and Harry discover they're soulmates and do their best to keep it a secret from everyone.
Their best isn't perfect.
“Are you trying to get killed, Potter?” Malfoy drawls, stalking forward. Quick as a serpent himself, he reaches out and grabs the snake just below the head. It thrashes in his grip, but is no longer able to bite anyone. “This is a poisonous snake, and I doubt anyone brought a bezoar with them.”
Harry glares. He opens his mouth, and feels the beginning the snake’s language pass his lips, and this isn’t what he wants, what’s the point of insulting Malfoy if he can’t understand him –
Malfoy’s eyes widen. He slaps his hand over Harry’s mouth, “Potter, what the hell–”
🐍 Soup-pocalypse and The Great Curry Cataclysm by @norelationtoatticus (104k) Veela Draco / Pining
Eleven years after the war, Draco Malfoy leads a quiet, boring, and perfectly respectable life, thanks very much. Or, at least he does, until a sudden and very unexpected veela awakening causes him to throw soup all over Harry Potter in the middle of the Ministry cafeteria.
🦁 Twist of Fate by Oakstone730 (302k) Memory Loss / EWE
Draco asks Harry to help him beat the Imperius curse during 4th year. The lessons turn into more than either expected. A story of redemption and forgiveness.
🐍 There Is Always the Moon by @firethesound (159k) Cursed Draco / Fake relationship
Draco's life after the war is everything he wanted it to be: it's simple, and quiet, and predictable, and safe. But when a mysterious curse shatters the peace he'd worked so hard to build, there's only one person he can trust to help him. After all, Harry Potter has saved his life before. Now Draco has to believe that Potter will be able to do it one more time.
🦁 Azoth by zeitgeistic (faire_weather) (88k) Magic nerd boys / Hogwarts 8th year
Now that Harry is back at Hogwarts with Hermione for eighth year, he realises that something’s missing from his life, and it either has to do with Ron, his boggart, Snape, or Malfoy. Furthermore, what, exactly, does it mean when one’s life is defined by the desire to simultaneously impress and annoy a portrait? Harry has no idea; he’s too busy trying not to be in love with Malfoy to care.
🐍 you’ve got the antidote for me by Kandakickass (20k) Soulmate AU / Terminal illness
When Harry Potter unintentionally severs their soulbond before it can fully form, Draco Malfoy resigns himself to a slow death and decides not to burden Harry with a soulmate he's made it very clear he doesn't want.
He's never been selfless before, but for Harry, he can try.
🦁 Say My Name by Thunderbird487 (199k) Hogwarts 8th year / Character growth
Harry witnesses something unexpected in the 8th year boys' showers and starts to see Draco Malfoy in a whole new light. The question is now, what is he going to do about it?
A coming of age Drarry tale about letting go of the past and building the future.
🐍 Little Deaths and How to Avoid Them (or Draco Malfoy’s Guide to Stop Dying and Start Living Instead) by dustmouth, nerakrose (96k) Asexual Harry / Slow burn
Malfoy is way too interested in coroner reports for somebody who's definitely not looking for ways to die, Harry wants to be friends with him, and Ginny wants to break up with Harry.
Features: Little League Quidditch, an abundance of bath bombs, happy endings, and gay robots in space.
🦁 Tea and No Sympathy by who_la_hoop (70k) EWE / Time loop
It's Potter's fault, of course, that Draco finds himself trapped in the same twenty-four-hour period, repeating itself over and over again. It's been nearly a year since the unpleasant business at Hogwarts, and Draco's getting on with his life quite nicely, thank you, until Harry sodding Potter steps in and ruins it all, just like always. At first, though, the time loop seems liberating. For the first time in his life, he can do anything, say anything, be anything, without consequence. But the more Draco repeats the day, the more he realises the uncomfortable truth: he's falling head over heels for the speccy git. And suddenly, the time loop feels like a trap. For how can he ever get Harry to love him back when time is, quite literally, against him?
🐍 Veela-Struck by Lomonaaeren (148k) Veela Draco / Slow burn
Veela don’t have destined mates, and thank Merlin for that. Draco wants to date Harry Potter because Harry is one of the few people in the wizarding world who treats him decently. But when Harry refuses, with his refusal focused on Draco’s creature blood, Draco sets out on a different journey than he ever expected.
🦁 Purity Control by frnklymrshnkly (28k) Hogwarts 8th year / Redemption
In which Harry tries to ignore his trauma with fantasy Quidditch but Malfoy's Thereness™ is distracting and all his classmates want to talk about are unicorns, virginity, and Muggle music.
🐍 Away Childish Things by @letteredlettered (153k) Hurt/Comfort / EWE
Harry gets de-aged. Malfoy has to help him.
The last thing Harry remembered was talking to a snake. The snake had talked back—or sounded like it had—and then the glass had disappeared, and the snake had escaped. Dudley had blubbered like a baby, and Harry had got in trouble—or he thought he might have done, but that was when it started to get hazy, like grey swirls inside his own head.

200 Harry Potter Prompts
Let me preface with this: I love the Harry Potter series, both the books and the movies and have shared both with my son; HOWEVER I don’t support the things that JK Rowling has been saying recently. I refuse to let her transphobia destroy something I love so I propose we take back these quotes from the characters we love and make as many of them as gay as we possibly can. Fuck you JK

In the several millennia he had existed Loki Odinson, Norse God of Mischief and Lies, had been many things, he had been a liar, a warrior, and a trickster, just to name a few, but never before, in his thousands of years of existence had he been a loving father, but all it took was a single glance at the perfect little creature before him and he knew, he was gone.

From Quora, Harry Potter from Draco's perspective:
I first met Harry Potter when we were both in Madam Malkin’s Robe shop buying our first set of school robes. As we were stood side by side on stools as Madam Malkin fitted us, I took the opportunity to introduce myself and extend the hand of friendship. I’d had a lonely childhood and was eager make school friends as soon as possible.
Potter was quite cold towards me. He seemed annoyed that I didn’t know who he was, and he took umbrage when I questioned him about his parents. Having grown up in wizard society, I considered the questions natural and harmless.
I tried to reach out again to Potter on the Hogwarts Express. Once again, he gave me a cold rejection. By that point, he had already attached himself to Ronald Weasley, so I imagine my expressed preference for Slytherin in our robe shop conversation now prejudiced him against me and my companions, Crabbe and Goyle. We left their compartment after Weasley’s pet rat attacked and bit Goyle.
I think it’s important to note here that the rat later turned out to be an Animagus criminal named Peter Pettigrew, who had faked his own death in order to frame someone else for his role in the murder of Potter’s family. While I don’t blame Potter for not knowing the rat was an Animagus, I think it shows he selected his friends badly. At the very least, the rat’s vicious attack should have raised doubts about Weasley.
However, I would learn later that Potter and his clique had a weird attachment to vicious animals, which explains their equally strange attachment to a vicious half-giant named Hagrid. In my third year, one of Hagrid’s hippogriffs seriously injured me in an unprovoked attack. My father insisted the beast be destroyed for the protection of other students, but Potter and his friends supported Hagrid and did the research he presented in the hippogriff’s favour. Whilst I can’t prove they helped the beast escape, I’m morally certain they had a hand in it. At the same time, a convicted murderer also escaped justice. I find it difficult to believe in the coincidence.
Potter enjoyed a great deal of indulgence from the staff from the beginning, excepting Professor Snape. We had been at school only a brief time before the Gryffindor Head of House, Professor McGonagall, allowed an exception to the rule that prohibited first years from owning their own brooms. Potter not only was allowed his own broom but was also fast-tracked onto the Gryffindor Quidditch team as their Seeker. Having caught Potter in egregious rule breaking, McGonagall rewarded him instead of punishing him.
Potter’s style of bullying was subtle. He was a master of manipulation, who often used staff members and other authority figures to do his dirty work. In our fourth year, the DADA professor transfigured me into a ferret and subjected me to a vicious beating on Potter’s behalf. The man turned out to be an impostor—yet another escaped criminal. Dumbledore overlooked the incident, as usual.

OOC
name — Nicky age — 30+ pronouns — she/her timezone — EST activity level — medium: I play in and help admin another game, but I should still have plenty of time for a decent amount of Lucius-ing over here! Probably not every day, but certainly multiple times per week! any questions? — nope, everything looks super great!
IC Overview
name — Lucius Abraxas Malfoy age — 31 gender — gender-fluid…not that Lucius has the words for that, but he knows how he feels and he’s never bothered to fuss about it. Lucius has always been supremely confident in himself (and herself – although again, he lacks the awareness of gender that would let him understand that his feelings about “his” gender sometimes fit other pronouns better than the ones he was assigned at birth, so he only ever uses him – even when he doesn’t feel like a him) and the only downside to that is that his confidence arrogance honestly blinds him a little bit to the nuances of his own identity – because he’s Lucius Malfoy. There’s no room for figuring out any other details of identity next to that. The upside to his confidence, of course, is that he doesn’t hesitate to express himself in whatever way feels most comfortable, no matter how other people might react – so if some days he’d rather wear robes more suited to a witch, or deck himself out in his late mother’s finest jewelry, or paint his face with the finest make-up…he’ll just do it. Why not? He is who he is, and Lucius has never apologized for that…well, not and meant it anyway! sexuality — pansexual…which again, he lacks the terminology for. Yes, the word itself was coined in 1917, but it was coined by Muggles; even if it’s made its way into the Wizarding World by now, it wouldn’t have made its way to Lucius…not that he needs it. Lucius isn’t the sort who requires a label to know himself, and he simply never cared about gender. His orientation might be better described as “pretty-sexual” because he’s shallow as anything; it’s just not gender that affects his interests. In fact, he thinks the way some people let something as silly and pointless as gender dictate their attraction is just absurd – and he won’t hesitate to share that fact. patronus — peacock (because of course, right?) although usually noncorporeal…not that Lucius doesn’t have happy memories, because he certainly does; conjuring the patronus isn’t a difficulty. Keeping the patronus conjured when in the face of something nasty is where he falters – because Lucius has always been a little bit spineless. He’s better at the Dark Arts than the Light, because it’s easier to force negative emotions than positive ones; he’s happy when he feels happy, but he’s adept at using anger and hate even when he’s not feeling them. He can compartmentalize extremely well (hence his positively artful mastery of the Imperius Curse) but he’s never learned to fake happy. Lucius either wears a completely opaque mask or wears his feelings right out on his sleeve – no in between. And a patronus requires a bit of that in between, remembering happy even when you’re scared or angry and not just in an “oh I wish” sense, but in an yes I was happy then, I can be happy right not thinking about it again and that’s not something he does well. So his patronus is weak…but then again, with the spells he knows, what does he need a patronus for anyway? boggart — dog…a great slavering, drooling, barking, tooth-bared beast, filthy and matted with blood on its lips and frenzy in its eyes. It’s anyone’s guess whether he’s more afraid of the teeth or the threat of muck from the filthy in its fur – Lucius certainly isn’t telling. He’s good at compartmentalizing fear, anyway, so boggarts don’t cause him much trouble. One quick Riddikulus and the beast’s legs drop off and its teeth fall out, and it falls helpless and yelping to the ground, frenzy replaced by confusion and fear. Maybe that wouldn’t be a funny enough sight for most people – they’d probably turn it into a toy dog, squeaking and colorful, or maybe tie it up in bright ribbon or something cutesy like that – but Lucius’s sense of humor, while sharp, is also a bit dark. He thinks it’s hilarious. He won’t be laughing so hard later, probably – because the war is coming back, and this time Lucius has more to lose than he did when he first donned that silver mask. The first time he sees his son’s broken body before him, he’ll understand how normal people feel when they face a boggart: shaken, terrified, hollow. And not even his clever wits will be able to quickly conjure a way to make that funny. But that’s later; for now, it’s still the ugly dog and the cruel laughter engendered by its plight.
IC In Depth
personality traits — at least two positive and two negative, explain
Loyal – there are people who call Lucius a snivelling, spineless coward who would betray anybody to save his own skin, and they’re not wrong…except the part about him betraying anybody. Lucius is extremely loyal, but only to those whom he deems most important to him: his family. The Malfoys have always put family first – to the lengths of being willing to sacrifice their own ambitions (and even lives) for the sake of the greater name and lineage. Like many of the old, insular pure-blood families, their members have a tendency to be sorted into the same Hogwarts House as those who came before – but it’s not as universal a thing as it is with some and if a Malfoy isn’t going to be in Slytherin, it’s a pretty safe bet to put your money on them being in Hufflepuff. Indeed, it took the Sorting Hat a good two minutes to decide where to put young Lucius (and it was his innate laziness that ultimately kept him out of the cellars; while he certainly has drive and it more than willing to work hard to achieve his goals, if there’s an easy way out Lucius won’t hesitate to take that instead). He would do anything, sacrifice anything, for those who are most precious to him; his loyalty to them is boundless. Too bad for the rest of the world that that means he won’t hesitate to sacrifice them for the sake of those he loves, too – and that the number of people who truly matter above all else is so small: one wife, one son. Even his own father goes on the list of “potential sacrifice” if need be to keep Draco and Narcissa safe. Good thing Abraxas is a Malfoy, too; the old man might be a terror, but he understands that sort of family loyalty too.
Arrogant – Lucius went most of his life not just thinking but knowing that there was no one in the world who could compare to him. These days, he knows there are two people who are better: his son and his wife. And no one else even holds a candle to the three of them. It’s more than just confidence; it’s an absolute, unshakable belief in his own superiority. (Daddy’s lectures about Malfoys being better than everyone else took hold a little too well.) Time ought to have at least tempered if not punctured this bubble, but alas, Lucius is talented enough that he managed to escape the cold dose of reality that often undercuts the insufferable. He did learn how to ingratiate himself (a talent acquired mostly through the simple expedient of being so much younger than the majority of the people he was trying to impress) to the point of obsequiousness, at times – but just because Lucius is kneeling and begging and sniveling for his life doesn’t mean he doesn’t still think he’s better than you. He has a knack for compartmentalizing that makes him extremely gifted at mental magicks like Legilimency and Occlumency, but that same knack has a detrimental impact on his character as well: because he’s so good at it, he can even compartmentalize reality when it conflicts with his convictions. When Lucius is shown-up at something, instead of questioning whether he really is as good as he thinks he is, he finds ways to dismiss it – there were extenuating circumstances, maybe, or it’s a skill that isn’t all that important anyway, etc. So even when he’s been badly humbled, his confidence shattered, his arrogance remains. Even in defeat, Lucius knows he’s still better than the people who beat him. That’s just who he is.
Clever – Call him shrewd, observant, manipulative, even machiavellian – Lucius is all those things. He is a talented, quick-witted wizard with few (if any) scruples. He can talk his way out of trouble almost as fast as he can think his way out of said trouble, lightning-quick and eloquent. He’s already ready with a barb or a drawling retort, as quick with a jibe as he is with a jinx. In part, it’s a natural talent – and in part it’s because Lucius views the whole world as a sort of game, one that he’s been practicing all his life. Even now, having lived through the horrors of a war, he still looks at the world as a game – and games can be won. (He’s the sort of player who cheats, too, and doesn’t see anything wrong with that; everybody is cheating, after all. It’s just a matter of who does it better, and who’s clumsy enough to get caught…and dumb enough to let getting caught be a problem instead of the next step in the game.) Perhaps that’s why he so rarely wakes up screaming, when by all rights he ought to suffer from daily nightmares after the things he’s seen – the things he’s done. But Lucius doesn’t have a guilty conscience. (There are some who say he doesn’t have a conscience at all.) Anyone he hurt has themselves to blame as much as him, after all; if they’d been better at the game, they’d have been able to protect themselves, like he did. He was clever enough to talk his way into Voldemort’s inner circle; clever enough to talk his way out of Azkaban; clever enough see which way the wind was blowing after the war and pivot to a new role that would carry him further than his old reputation – not that he doesn’t still make sure of some of that; having people half-convinced that you could Curse them as easily as you charm them with your honeyed words comes in handy…and Lucius could. He’s an exceptionally adept wizard, especially in certain useful areas of magic; he could get his way through force a lot more often than he does…but it’s more fun to charm and cajole instead.
Callous – You can’t even call it selfishness, although Lucius is selfish – albeit generous with friends, allies, and those he’s trying to sucker…but giving away gold and gifts and grandiose praise doesn’t cost him anything; petty selfishness is a different thing entirely. No, Lucius is callous not because he’s greedy (he has enough that he can afford not to act greedy and still satiate his greed) but because he doesn’t care about other people. Oh, he can put on an appearance of sympathy with the best of them, and on some level he can even feel great sorrow and pity for other people…but he doesn’t really care. Not about anybody outside his small circle of family and a few close friends – and even then, he’d not blink to see half the latter in distress if the circumstance were right. Lucius is the sort of man who would let the world burn not because he delights in chaos, but because he doesn’t care enough about the people screaming around him to put it out. He only cares about “the world” as a concept at all because it’s the world that he – and his son – have to life in; the future matters for Draco, not because there’s anything of value in the abstract concept of “the future.” Which is not to say that he is without all feelings of human sympathy; should someone he does care about find themselves in pain or distress of any sort, Lucius will be distraught (possibly furious, depending on the circumstance) and genuinely sympathetic – but only to the people he cares about. Everyone else can burn for all he cares. Lucius Malfoy is not adept at the Cruciatus Curse because he revels in causing other people pain; he’s adept at the Cruciatus Curse because he doesn’t see anything wrong with someone else screaming. He’s not the sort to go out of his way to find a toy to play with the way some (such as his sister-in-law) of his old allies were known to do…but he will smirk and sneer and mock a victim without so much as a flicker of remorse. And why not? Why should he care about other people who don’t care about him?
character biography — doesn’t have to be overly long, just give us the important moments in the character’s life
Lucius is an only child, born late in his father’s life to Abraxas’s fourth wife. Rumors about about the terrible mischances that took the first three – a mysterious illness, a tragic accident, and the scandal of running off to the Côte d'Ivoire with a Mudblood – and about the many miscarriages and cot-deaths that carried-off the family’s previous attempts at an heir. (No one can prove that there are squib babies buried in the estate’s gardens…but no one can prove that there aren’t, either.) When Lucius came along, it was a relief to old Abraxas and he raised his son with both indulgent luxury and demanding expectations. Lucius’s childhood wasn’t easy, with his father always breathing down his neck, but the trade-off was that as long as he excelled at everything, he got anything he could ever want. That seemed like a pretty good deal – and it’s not like it was hard for a clever, talented, ambitious boy to succeed at Hogwarts. Slug Club in his first year, Slytherin Chaser in his third, prefect in his fifth, Quidditch captain in his sixth…and not even Abraxas could blame him for the fact that he did not make Head Boy, not with that Muggle-lover Albus Dumbledore as headmaster. Besides, by then Lucius’s eyes were already on his next ambition…
It wasn’t hard for him to curry favor with the Dark Lord, and Lucius earned his Dark Mark within a year of leaving Hogwarts. He was young, but he was valuable too – not just for his name and social position, but for his charm. Lucius was good in a duel (and grew better fast with so many vicious allies with whom to train and trade knowledge) but Voldemort had many Death Eaters who could fight; Lucius’s value lay in the minds he could sway (through words or spells) whether by recruiting other allies, or merely spreading support for the Dark Lord’s ideals. Abaxas was less than thrilled that his only son would agree to serve anyone, even Voldemort, but he had no qualms with the Dark Lord’s ideals, so their arguments over it never went too far (but Abraxas lost no time in spouting I-told-you-so’s after Voldemort’s fall). War was hard, and often dangerous, but the dark years were brightened by something that overshadowed all of that: love and marriage to the most wonderful witch in the world. (Even Abraxas could find no flaws with his daughter-in-law, although he did make several snide comments about the disgrace of Narcissa’s former sister – until she hexed him into silence, after which he promptly declared her a perfect match for his only son.) It took longer than they might have liked to have a child, but once they did – once they had an heir – it seemed like everything might well be perfect.
There were losses and close-calls during the war, and they had several friends to mourn, but the only direct tragedy in Lucius’s life was the death of his mother when she mistook a deadly herbicide for a harmless sleeping draught – a suspicious tragedy, perhaps, on the heels of two other unexpected deaths, but once again no one (not even Lucius) could prove that his father had been in any way involved. The war, at least, offered a distraction from grief at her death – until the war ended, suddenly and with little ceremony, and the Malfoys found themselves abruptly left on the losing side. They might have been able to weather that storm with little harm (they were far too respected, and too connected, to not be able to squirm free of repercussions) but then Narcissa’s sister had to go off and torture bloody James Potter like that, and…well, on top of everything else it seemed like just “escaping Azkaban” wasn’t enough. The family needed to do something to “prove” to the public that they shouldn’t be painted with the same brush as vicious Bellatrix Lestrange – a grand gesture. And what could be grander than turning their backs on one sister and reconciling with another?
Narcissa wasn’t keen on the idea, but Lucius convinced her – no easy feat, with Cissy being one of the tojurs pur noble House of Black, whose purity-mania had been second only to the unlamented Gaunts, but Lucius had always had a knack for being convincing…and besides, their was their child’s future to think of. So Narcissa agreed, and Lucius led the push of glad-handing and grinning at half-blood and blood-traitors and even the occasional Mudblood, enshrining the Malfoy family in the eyes of the wizarding world as good people. Not blood-traitors themselves, oh no, they never went that far – but a little more easy-going about things than they’d once been; a little more tolerant. They stopped (mostly) using the word Mudblood in public; stopped pushing for pro-pureblood laws with their gold and their influence. They still toed the line of being respectable wix of course, polite and traditional…but less strict about who (and what) they were willing to let into their own inner circle. They even allowed Andromeda’s Mudblood husband and their mongrel brat in their home! Yes, the Malfoys had clearly changed, and all the world could see it.
Lucius recently engaged in another grand gesture, although this one with more sincerity and enthusiasm: the “little girl” that he and his wife had thought they were raising declared himself to be a wizard, not a witch, and while it took the Malfoys a little while to come on board with the idea (not so much because they had trouble with the concept as because the child’s ability to explain himself was stymied somewhat by Lucius’s own rather flippant disregard for gender norms – so saying he was just like daddy didn’t mean as much as it would have in another house) once they did, they didn’t hold back. Narcissa pulled down the book of constellations to help her son find a new name (it didn’t take him long – I can be a dragon? I wanna be a dragon!) while Lucius took-out a full-page ad in the Daily Prophet to print an amended birth announcement so the whole world would know about their precious Draco. Lucius would have been happy to spend the rest of his life preening over his clever, brilliant, perfect son, and litlte else – but it seems the world has other plans in mind.
As rumors of darkness returning swirl, the Malfoys find themselves in a difficult position: they turned their backs on the more hardcore of their old allies to court new, muddier friends; they didn’t so much renounce the old ways as quietly shuffle away from them…and now the old ways are calling in what they owe. If the Dark Lord is indeed coming back – or even if he isn’t, and it’s merely other old supporters rallying the cause again – the Malfoys will be in trouble. They’ll be punished for their disloyalty, and not even Lucius’s silver tongue will be enough to talk their way out of that – not after they made such a public show of reconciling with Narcissa’s blood-traitor relatives, not after everything Lucius has said to the public and the press, all the work they’ve done to build a new reputation…work that may now doom them. The only way to keep themselves safe from the Dark Lord’s retribution is to lean in and really commit to the newer, more “tolerant” ideals to which they’ve spent the last five years paying lip service. If their old allies are their enemies now, that means they need to make their old enemies into allies – ingratiate themselves so well that those they once fought will be willing to protect them against their old friends. It’s not going to be pleasant…but there’s nothing Lucius won’t do to keep his family safe. Nothing.
plot ideas — either for the broader group plot or for your specific character
THE DIARY of course! Since Lucius was entrusted with that by Voldemort shortly before the Dark Lord’s death when he was still a devoted follower…which he isn’t, anymore. So now what? How/when/if will he figure out what this thing is, or that it’s something that matters now? Will he dare to defy Voldemort enough to actually help destroy that? Will he want to keep it for some sort of insurance for himself? Will learning what it is (what sort of dangerous thing the Dark Lord put in the same house as his son!) give him and Sirius a reason to work together, and how awkward will that be for both of them? Will his knowledge of the Dark Arts prove invaluable to Sirius’s mission to destroy the horcruxes, both giving him a chance to do “good” using his “bad” skills and also forcing Sirius to grapple with the conflicting issue of “ends justifying the means” and what it means to use the Dark Arts for “the greater good”? Will he keep possession of the diary a secret (maybe purposefully, maybe without understanding that it matters) too long and endanger his family by having it there when the Dark Lord comes back for it? Will he get rid of it and face Voldemort’s wrath for that later, instead – and then have no diary he can offer-up to temper said wrath? There are a lot of ways that this can go, and I’m on board for ALL of them!
DOBBY – we know he hates the Malfoys, hates working for them. Probably doesn’t buy into their “we’re good now, mkay?” vibe at all…so does that set him up to be this story’s Kreacher? Will he find a way to betray them, and if he does what will that do – will it be a betrayal that hurts the Order and Dumbledore as well? One that opens a weakness for the Dark Lord or his old Death Eaters to take advantage of? Dobby was a savior in canon because it was Harry Potter he wanted to help, but now that the Malfoys are “good guys” (technically speaking) will that make Dobby easy for the bad guys to manipulate or take advantage of? Or might Dobby simply take action on his own without being aware of the wider consequences, and inadvertently bring disaster? Again, lots of directions that this one could go depending on what the greater game plot demands – but I think the idea of having Dobby serve as a sort of cat’s paw or monkey wrench at some point would be really interesting, so file that one away on your back burner! ;)
ROSIERS – they’re related pretty closely through Narcissa’s mother (and tbh all the pure-bloods are related somehow the inbreeding is strong here lol) which also ties them to the Longbottoms through Alice and Evan being cousins; given the rather disparate sides on which those families stand, that puts some nice tension into the room…so how does that translate? Maybe a birthday party for dear little Draco (and if it’s his first birthday party as a boy, you know the Malfoys are going to go even bigger and more absurd with the extravaganza than their usual already over-the-top nonsense) that ends up getting a little out of hand – direct conflict that breaks-out into dueling? Party-crashing that gets ugly? Sabotage? Attempted poisoning? An attack? Lots of possibilities, again, dependent on what stage of things the plot has reached at the time – but given the Malfoys’ nature as gregarious social butterflies, it would be easy enough to have them throw a party for any reason any time one was needed for a plot event, whether it involves the Rosiers/Longbottoms or not!
LONGBOTTOMS – speaking of the Longbottoms…what is their relationship with the Malfoys? (Do they have one?) How close (or not at all) was Alice to Narcissa before their respective marriages, did they know each other well? Were they so distant they barely considered themselves family at all? Somewhere in between? That’s obviously something to be plotted/discussed between any Narcissa and Alice players, of course – I just think it could be very interesting to deal with any sort of connection between the Longbottoms, who were responsible for the death of Voldemort, and the Malfoys, whose world was up-ended by said death. Plus, they literally fought on opposite sides of a war…do the Longbottoms suspect that Lucius was under one of those silver masks? Do Lucius and Narcissa know that the Longbottoms were in the Order? They’re Aurors too, which probably puts some strife into things given the Malfoys’ predilection for the Dark Arts (and to circumventing the law in general) even if they’ve never been caught red-handed enough to face more than a few wink-and-a-nod fines. They’ve also got sons the same age; with the Malfoys being technically “good guys” this time, does that mean that Draco and Neville might end up having a play-date or two? Again, this all depends on plotting and backstories of other players, but I’m definitely in for seeing something happen with these two families!
POTTERS – His sister-in-law tortured Lily’s husband into a coma. He’s close friends with Severus, one of Lily’s oldest friends. And her current parenting-partner is his wife’s cousin (who’s currently working on destroying Voldemort’s horcruxes, one of which is stashed in Lucius’s house). Can anyone say awkward? Because I sure as hell can! There are a lot of things to tie these people unwillingly together even before their sons end up rivals at school together, and I’m eager to explore all of them.
DEATH EATERS – Lucius wasn’t just allies with these people; he was, in many cases, friends. Always an outgoing, charming, vivacious wizard, Lucius was popular all his life – good at making friends, and also good at assessing people and knowing how to get them on his side, whether by ingratiating himself to them or making them want to ingratiate themselves to him, etc. So even among the cut-throat, backstabbing, power-hungry Death Eaters, he was well-liked by more than most…but how far does friendship really go? He’s maintained a cordial, sometimes even friendly relationship with many of his old comrades-in-marks despite his public persona of someone barely better than a blood-traitor in their eyes…but does that mean any of them would hesitate to Avada Kedavra him on their old master’s orders? Can he expect any mercy, any help, any quarter – if not for himself, maybe at least for his wife and son? Maybe he should work to cozy-up to them even more…or maybe he should cut ties and put as much distance between them as possible, for the sake of safety. He might well do all of the above with different characters, so please – if you write a Death Eater, let’s plot out some drama!
SEVERUS SNAPE – Lucius was the first person to truly welcome Severus to the wizarding world, and while Lucius didn’t see anything special about the scrawny boy at first glance – he was just doing his duty as a newly-minted prefect to Slytherin’s new crop of first years – it didn’t take him long to realize that Severs was special…and vulnerable. One of, if not the, cleverest snakes in his year, it was obvious to anyone with eyes (translation: almost no one) that the boy was gifted. He was lonely too, and having someone like Lucius Malfoy demonstrate acceptance and praise of him was probably intoxicating to Severus. No wonder he ended up making friends with the sort of wannabe-Death Eaters that Lucius had hung around with in school; they probably followed Lucius’s lead, looked at scrawny Severus, and assumed that if Lucius thought he was valuable it must be true. Perhaps Lucius was even the one who made the overture to welcome Snape into the Death Eaters, the one who assured the Dark Lord that this greasy-haired half-blood was more than he seemed…I don’t know, but I’d love to plot-out a relationship with a Severus player! I think Lucius was probably a condescending bastard to Snape because he’s that way with everyone, but I also think he genuinely likes Snape too. I think Lucius considers him a close friend – and after the war ended with the both of them not on the side they’d seemed to be, one of the closest – and the fact that he sometimes tries to manipulate Snape doesn’t impact that at all; that’s what friends do, right? So I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a healthy, fair relationship…but it’s also genuine on Lucius’s part. He’d be shocked to be told that he’s ever not treated Severus well, honestly – he thinks he has. And given Snape’s rather troubled, traumatic childhood, it’s even possible that Snape agrees idk! I’d love to talk ideas through with whoever ends up playing Severus – especially what comes next. Does Lucius figure out that Snape is in the Order? He certainly knows that Snape is close to Dumbledore – which means that his fifteen-year-old instincts were right: Snape is valuable. Perhaps the mos valuable person Lucius knows, the one who might well save his skin in the days to come…if he can trust Snape to have his back, now that the both of them have turned their backs on the man who Marked them.
extra — honestly this app is already a million years long, so no, I am not going to force anyone to look at anything else I’M SORRY IT’S SO DAMN LONG XD
