Okay I may not be unique for this but I don’t care:
I love applying tall/small to AusHun, because Erzsi, being the stubborn warrior she is, absolutely would insist she is NOT petite, meanwhile her sarcastic husband would tease her for it all the time.
Probably uses her shoulder as an armrest like “oh, so you’re not petite? Oh, do tell me more.”
“Does someone who is not petite need to climb the furniture to reach the top shelf? I’ve certainly never tried it before. Do you just look for excuses to exercise then?”
“Did you know clothing makers today claim a petite woman is, at tallest, 162 centimeters? Just a fun little fact I read today, thought you ought to know.”

What year do you think would Austria transition? (Wearing more masculine clothes, binding his chest, etc etc)
God if you ask me, I have like. A long ramble of this headcanon that I've thought about and worked on, I'm just going to try and briefly a version of the yap that I sent to a mutual on discord when asked for my thoughts about Roderich's trans experience, when he transitioned, presented more masculine;
Just a quick clarification this is incredibly self indulgent and my own headcanon + interpretation. I like making my faves trans and it helps me cope with my own dysphoria irl 🫶😔
Okay so. In which the option he chose to present and identify with the pronouns he does started quite early on since he was a child born out of the circumstances when the land before it became the eastern march was rife with strife. Shortly after being under Bavaria's care, the man encouraged this 'pretending to be a boy' thing driven by his mindset of that period and thinking hey, I got a boy in my charge and I'll damn well raise him to be a fine man. (Said boy later declaring independence when someone got that Priviliegium Maius and was established into the Duchy of the empire wink wonk )
This just continued onward and Roderich never really questioning it, in regards to the physicality of the supposed gender he was assigned at birth, he's far too comfortable already presenting every way male and this lends to my bit that when he was a march - duchy, he was active out on the field in battles and two, beside his Dukes as the territories expanded, that schtick of wanting to be man, man, man and being out and about fighting is one sure way to enforce this, right? (Yeah of course the approach would entail some bits of toxic masculinity given the time period) Then THIS too lends to his incoming struggle when the Habsburgs succeeded into the imperial lineage and making this pretty duchy the face of their hegemony!
The struggle comes packaged with coming to terms the fluidity in his gender expression demanded by this duty that yes he is to be strong as any man should be, similarly beautiful and perfect in a passive manner (read: feminine) to better signify him the crown jewel of the empire. That's a whole lotta mess I'll get into if I remember but in short his journey regarding this part of his life leads to a veeeery essential development later in the modern days as to how and why he reclaimed comfort and confidence to be as masculine and feminine as he pleases without caring much more about it entangled with what he was supposed to represent and that he can just be himself.
Therefore. I can see him transitioning and abandoning his bad binding habits for good in early 2000s ngl. Goodbye tiddies once and for all. <3

"I was always more of a quiet kid, greatly preferring my books and toys, and the company of those that I was familiar with. I suppose that's why Fritz and I got on well -- We were of the same temperament and had more than a couple shared interests. Being a part of such an unconventional family hasn't always been easy... Especially now that I'm more grown and am more aware of tensions brought about by politics and the like. But I wouldn't change it for the world."
Portrait descriptions under the cut!!
Portrait 1: The Berlin Family, painted in more recent times.
(L to R Back) Otto (Order of St. John), Niklot (Reiner's son, Neubrandenburg), Konrad (Berlin), Gilbert (Prussia), Rahela (Gilbert's wife, Romania), Reiner (Brandenburg), Ilse (Potsdam), Johanna (Koenigsberg), (L to R Front) Ludwig (German Empire), Sztefa (Silesia) - Gilbert and Rahela were wed in 1866, after Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen came to the Romanian throne as King Carol I of Romania. The marriage is purely political, but the two maintain a cordial and warm friendship. much to Erzsi's dismay - Niklot is Reiner's son, born from a human lover he had before the 30 Years War. Father and son were only recently reunited in the 1820s. - Sztefa is Gilbert's adopted daughter, taken in during the First Silesian war, and raised in part by Frederick II. Served in the volunteer corps during the Napoleonic era disguised as a man. Is Ludwig's scary lesbian older sister.
Portrait 2: The Vienna family, painted c. 1830s.
(L to R Back) Erzsebet (Hungary), Sztefa, Anneliese (Vienna), Roderich (Austria) (L to R Front) Ludwig, Gilbert - Roderich may be bonded to Austria, but his sister Anneliese, who embodies the capital, takes more of a leading role when it comes to government matters.

Hetalia ships and group whose names I enjoy (I may not enjoy these pairings or groups but I enjoy the names given.)
Libertea
(Alfred and Arthur) - it's creative
Edelweiss
(Switzerland and Austria)- it just sounds pretty
Anthem pair
(Feliciano and Feliks) it sounds cool and it's true that Poland and Italy mention one another in their anthems
Velvet pair
(Czechia and Slovakia It Is historic and it also sounds sexy. Also I love that it's named after their splitting up
Island alliance
(Kiku and Arthur ) Again just sounds cool
Livonia pair
(Eduard and Raivis) again see above
Frying panangle
(Roderich, Erzsi and Gilbert)
Black triangle trio
(Alfred, Yao, and Ivan) It just sounds dark and badass yet it has no meaning
Honda's bodyguards
(Herakles, Sadık, and Kiku) I like the image it produces in your head. Greece and Turkey putting aside differences to go and try and impress Kiku
Unknown gender group
(Erszi, Feliciano, and Feliks) (Erzsi, Yao, and Feliks) or (Feliks, Tolys, and Yao )

Opium pairing
(Arthur and Yao) This one shouldn't be funny
Guns and Roses
Alfred and Francis again it's creative
Waiting for spring
Ivan and Alfred. It feels poetic I like the vibe it brings
Ones I find stupid

Revisited a one-shot I wrote five years ago for an AusHun Week where Erzsi’s a mid necromancer/guard who “accidentally” wakes up Roderich, who is a stuffy little prince skilled in diplomacy but with hardly any self preservation skills in a forest. They’re both convinced she accidentally revived Rod’s corpse, but actually she broke the spell in both 1) being his true love, and 2) entering his room (to avoid people trying to capture her but nonetheless she entered willingly)
Never got to explore it really in the one-shot but I thought it would be hysterical to give Rod the DP gene and have all the woodland creatures congregate around him like an entourage, but they only piss him off because they keep getting in his path while he’s walking 💀

Young Gil and Erzsi about to share their first kiss, but he ends up pushing her away and running off dramatically because, “His religion doesn’t allow homosexuality”. But he also mistakes Roddie as a girl for the first fifty years they knew each other, and kissed him because he was ‘pretty’.
Miss Hungary hasn’t let him live it down and brings it up every time he tries to flirt with her, and Austria doesn’t even remember and is just confused every time the other two argue about it.

imo roderich has the attention of erzsi and gil by just being himself, by just mere existing. however, if for whatever reason rod tries to psychoanalyze any of those two or both, it will get them irritated. both would feel uncomfortable, the conversation turning too personal and intrusive, also thinking is condescending.
gil would hate any "psycho-bullshit", disliking anything that could make him feel vulnerable or get under his facade. meanwhile, erzsi would be like "i'm not some kind of patient for you talk to me like that, cut that shit right now". in other words, it would be the worst way to attempt to have a heart to heart.
otoh i think toño wouldn't even notice lmao, at least not after a while. antonio does have some anger issues or a definitely-not-cheerful side, i wonder if rode has seen that (i'd assume he has).

Archduchess Elisabeth Marie of Austria (2 September 1883 – 16 March 1963) was the only child of Rudolf, Crown Prince of Austria and Princess Stéphanie of Belgium, and a granddaughter of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria and King Leopold II of the Belgians. She was known to the family as “Erzsi”, a diminutive of her name in Hungarian. Later nicknamed “The Red Archduchess”, she was famous for becoming a socialist and a member of the Austrian Social Democratic Party.

I finished Budapest: Portrait of a City Between East and West by Victor Sebestyen. Absolutely a must-read for any hetalia fans or just anyone who's interested in Hungarian history. I'm working my way through a more comprehensive history of the nation (The Will to Survive, a History of Hungary by Bryan Cartledge) but, Victor's book just kinda solidified my unhappiness with the canon relationship dynamic between Hungary and Austria.
Hima has Hungary be so protective and doting on Austria and after reading the countless horrible things the Habsburgs imposed on their Hungarian subjects...it just truly leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I see people argue that the nations also have a human side, but the concept of Erzsi sitting back and happily being in a romantic relationship with the man who's bosses are banning the use of her peoples language, saying Hungarians are brutes and savages, saying that the Austrians need to "clip the wings" of the hungarians....
its like...genuinely what did Hima read to make him think Hungary would like Austria so so much more than Prussia? According to one account, the Austrians were even a bit worried to ask for help from the Hungarians to fight Prussia because they feared they'd rebel against the Habsburgs instead. Historically, their marriage and time together would not have been a happy one, with Hungary rebelling and fighting Austria tooth and nail. Hell, Austria even had Russia come and smack down an attempted Hungarian uprising.
The few fics that depict hungary and austrias marriage as only politically driven and actually highlighting Austria's potential cruelty are my holy grails. (Not counting the ones that just use it to shove pruaus down my throat.)

We all know spain and austria were married for the longest time, could you talk about it
Just short of 200 years! And yet I don't know if I can say they actually spent much time together. King Charles V split it off because it was just too much for one man to get to grips on, so if they were one household it was for... I don't know how to define it actually. Either 1506 if you go with a Habsburg becoming King of Spain or 1519 where politically the HRE, Austria, BeNeLux and Spain all united. Personal or political union, usual story... Point is, it politically split in 1522 (when Charles ceased to be Archduke of Austria and gave it to his brother), or 1556 (where he gave up Holy Roman Emperor and gave it to his brother), or... I don't know. It's complicated. So, if you're going by that metric definition of marriage, they at worst didn't even manage five years. If you're going by the name and name alone, then yeah, you've got 200 years together.
I think we know in canon Antonio's household was BeNeLux, Romano and I assume where relevant Portugal. Austria had HRE, Czechia/Bohemia and Slovakia, Hungary and Veneziano, amongst others. I think it's important to remember that the "Let others wage war, but thou, O happy Austria, marry; for those kingdoms which Mars gives to others, Venus gives to thee" quote refers not just to the intermarriages with Spain, but also Bohemia, Hungary plus the pressures on Poland and France. Also Austria did absolute buckets of fighting at this time.
Austria is literally designed to be a wall. That mid point in Europe no-one east can cross. I think therefore his attentions were always elsewhere. In the same vein, Antonio was equally focused elsewhere. Roderich can complain 'I won't tolerate bigamy' but bruh. Bruh. I guess it depends where Erzsi is that day. Mayhaps bigamy is a nono but open marriage is fine. Who knows. The idea of them only actually being one household for like four years but being tangled in this awful mess of a family for 200 is very funny to me. You really can't find more diametrically opposed characters.
Completely off topic ramble under the cut
If people ever want some not English period dramas to watch then going from Maximilian for why the Habsburgs ended up in BeNeLux (including the most upsetting depiction of what happened to Mary of Burgundy in that yes she fell from her horse and had her spine crushed and took days for her to die and what am I supposed to feel with her final lines being 'life is not our own we simply borrow it' and telling her husband 'live a little longer then you will follow me' like siocbfdgfszxvcbngfsxcv okay) and then from there watch the Spanish Isabel, The Broken Crown, and then Carlos, rey emperador for the merger and splintering of the Spanish and Austrian territories. You can keep going actually... including the fantasy time travel El ministerio del tiempo which honestly 10 out 10 insanity if you want to hop across Spanish history yes including exactly what you would expect from the World War Two episodes and an episode where Phillip II decides to become King of the World following the defeat of the Armada honestly it's great it's dumb it's doctor who minus aliens. Spain has done so many period dramas it's honestly great. Margaret of Austria wishes she was this pretty (sorry that's mean it's not like she had any choice in the matter in what was happening to the genes of her family).

You asked for PolPru asks, so here goes:
If they ended up in a relationship in the modern day, who would break the news to Lithuania, and how? Or would they just try to hide it for as long as possible? Would a threesome ever work out, or would Prussia and/or Poland be too jealous? Also, would Hungary approve of PolPru, or would she beat the shit out of Prussia immediately?
What are Poland’s favorite aspects of Prussia’s personality, and what are his least favorites? And vice versa?
From what I’ve seen you headcanon that Poland and Prussia got married during the partitions, and Poland later ended up living with Austria instead (which I love and have incorporated into my own list of headcanons btw), so how did the divorce go? Who initiated it, and why? Did Poland annoy Prussia enough to finally get him to sign the papers? How did Poland get Prussia to agree- did he have to burn down Prussia’s house, or did something else finally change his mind?
Please don’t feel pressured to answer these asks- you can answer as many or as few as you like! Have a great day!
Liet
I feel like they would never shut up about it or would never actually say the words we're in a relationship. They could be getting married and Gil would be like when asked about his relationship with Feliks he'd be like "I fucking hate that bitch"
Threesome
They've definitely had threesomes, it's a fun way to explore power dynamics between the three of them in my opinion. I could see two of them domming the other in any combination which is what I'm here for. Feliks likes the attention so it's fun for him to see gil and liet fight for him. He gets to play damsel in distress and now liet can save him from Gilbert. Feliks likes roleplay and drags these two into with mixed results.
Erzsi
Erszi thinks it's adorable. Also she's a fujoshi so now she has more to work with when it comes to making porn.
Feliks' favourite and least favourite aspects
Gil is unintentionally thoughtful at times, he's the tough love that Feliks needs in a relationship or Feliks will push and push. Feliks finds it annoying but it is what makes it work.
He can be oddly comforting at some points because he is blunt. Which Feliks definitely needs.
He's annoying as fuck
Gil's favourite and least favourite aspects
He's fun to piss off because he always takes the bait. He gets so pissy but half the time he ends up enjoying time with Gil anyway. He's spontaneous and so entertaining and he's so small so it's like watching an angry kitten.
Feliks is bratty (although that's also a positive), emotional, and can be frustrating to deal with and it's hard to make him see reason. He is stubborn as well. He beats him at videogames as well.
Divorce, marriage, and living with austria
I don't have a set timeline so I usually play around with many scenarios although these two scenarios could technically work in the same timeline as I usually have Feliks with Prussia towards the earlier years and I had Feliks with Austria for pesach around the 1880s. There are so many places to Feliks to be partition era it's so fun.
Reading imperialist poetry from Pushkin where it sounds like a scenario where Ivan is beating the shit out of Feliks, the neighbors (rest of Europe) see and question him and he's likw don't mind us we're family and sometimes family means beating the shit out of someone for their misbehaviour. Then Feliks is like wtf we're not family and we never will be.
I'm not kidding this is what Pushkin wrote
Tumblr media
Mickiewicz also was like wtf and responded with your capital was paid with the blood of Lithuania
Tumblr media
Hmm as for divorce I think Feliks would just leave eventually and they never really end things and it's always up in the air whether or not they are actually married. Feliks pulls out the you married me for political reasons and nothing more so bye lmao.
The marriage thing though I think is really fun because it allows me to write Gil being either a complete ass or surprisingly nice. I do also like keeping liet and Feliks separate during the partitions because it makes sense to me that if you are going to control two former rulers of eastern Europe who worked well as a team for centuries, separate them as they have forgotten what it's like to not have someone who has your back at all times.
