my most ambitious modern au headcanon for my most precious rarepair, the lineup for their children was finalized 230911 bcs 9 kids soothe my eyes

the family tree: hange-smith

the parents: erwin smith and zoe hange

bit of a background: they were classmates during kindergarten and he immediately grew a crush on her, but he had to go back to the UK due to his family's business. they met again during college and immediately hit it off and started dating despite a 3-year age difference.

hailing from a big family, zoe wanted to recreate it; crushing on zoe so hard, erwin wanted it too.

he eventually inherited his parents' companies and she became a scientist in many fields.

irish twins: eren and armin

while eren was planned, armin was definitely NOT. the former was a honeymoon baby while the latter... well, blame erwin! they have a 1-year age gap.

zoe thought of their names because she wanted it to sound like erwin's name. eren's green eyes are from both his grandmothers' eyes which made him all the more adored while armin took all of erwin's features, making him erwin's favorite. zoe was the main caretaker of the two but they're undeniably daddy's boys.

eren will be a firefighter and armin the sole heir of erwin's businesses.

the golden child: sasha

sasha was born 5 years later, inheriting all of zoe's features which erwin absolutely loved, making him see that she does no wrong in his eyes.

the couple decided to concentrate on the irish twins before having her who was her brothers' dream come true since they had been wishing for a sister. she's spoiled rotten and eremin does not allow her to do any household chores despite teaching her how. zoe was her main caretaker but she's both a daddy and mommy's girl.

she'd grow to be a baker and open her bakeries.

the triplets: pieck, marcel, porco (PMP)

6 years after doting on the favorite child, the couple decided it's time for another, although this time, they didn't expect it to be triplets. while they were overjoyed, zoe's siblings were stressed for her but erwin's parents were excited for them.

pieck had her the hair color of zoe's mother, but both grandmothers and zoe's sister declared her as their favorite, also armin's because she's smart; marcel is eren's favorite because he's very diligent, quiet, and observant, ever the peacemaker; porco is sasha's favorite because he used to follow her around and obey her every request just to get her approval. erwin is their main caretaker but they're very much the babies of their eldest siblings.

pieck would grow to be a journalist, marcel a diplomat, and porco an air force member.

fraternal twins: zofia and falco (ZF)

after 4 years, the couple again didn't expect they'd have another set and zoe's OB wanted to smack the shit out of erwin.

erwin named zofia because he wanted something similar to zoe's name while armin named falco because he felt like it. the triplets joked that the ink went dry with the twins' hair (and the two absolutely believed it). falco adores eren the most while zofia idolizes armin so much even if he's always making her cry for the fun of it. erwin was their main caretaker but the triplets helped the most.

zofia would be an astrophysics major and falco a literature major.

youngest: ymir

the result of erwin's request to zoe 7 years later and she agreed because she also missed having a baby in the house.

eren named her and declared her the sister he didn't know he was missing, she's closest to him and the twins; her grandparents liken her to a cat because she's always curled up with her parents. shy and distant with the triplets, the couple were her main caretaker with the rest of the siblings helping out.

she'd grow to be a pediatrician.

favorite thing about him: his height. i'm not kidding, having such a badass strong male main character be just a Smol Boi is amazing to me, and it's the first time i see it in such a complicated character. not to mention it goes really well with my hc that he's trans, so FUCK YES SHORTY BABY.

least favorite thing about him: his clean freak habits if i absolutely have to pick something?

OTP: levihan and erurihan, which may sound contradictory with my brotp. the thing is i can't picture levi and erwin in a relationship with each other without hange being there too. i just.. it's kinda boring to me 😬 i hope that doesn't offend anyone (esp you since i know you ship them hon), and it can change from fic to fic, but mostly i ship erurihan too much to ship eruri on its own whereas it's not a problem at all for levihan (or eruhan. i think im just too in love with hange oops)

random headcanon: his kink is to be called yours in bed. like he wants to feel owned, not in a sub/sex slave kind of way (although at times that too) but just in a general wanting to be wanted way, yk? dude was born in secret and hidden in a brothel until his mom died, then harshly trained and given up by kenny when he was deemed strong enough, then everyone he loved died like flies around him. i think he longs to belong to someone who wants him bad enough to never want to let go, and ofc i think that someone is hange (+/- erwin).

unpopular opinion: he's a huge bottom. idk if it's really unpopular, but i see sooooo many fics with him being a top and i could see it happening in a certain setting, but that's not my main idea of him, esp not in the beginning of a relationship. i think it would take months for hange (+/- erwin) to make him feel confident enough in his feelings and skin to try it, and i absolutely love to imagine him being so flustered about it first because he's so out of his comfort zone taking the reigns during sex.

song i associate with him: castle of glass by linkin park. i already told you how levihan that song is, but i initially thought of post-caon levi when i first heard it. he's got nothing left and he's nothing but a broken shell (in his mind, anyway) in a broken world, which is very close to the lyrics and general tone of that song imo

Jean is not a character i care much about, i'm kinda neutral about him. can i do Armin instead? (that's what she said)

favorite thing about him: he's a dreamer, which makes him smart not only in the traditional sense and his strategic abilities, but also in the sense that he's driven by hope and curiosity. he's inquisitive but cautious, he's thirsty for knowledge and driven by it even when he's shaking with fear and that's something i understand, love and admire in any character/person.

least favorite thing about him: he was a bit too whiney in early episodes, which is why it took me a while to like him.

OTP: i don't think i romantically ship him with anyone? at one point it was mikasa, now i just don't really care

random headcanon: he has a crush on hange! erwin was a mentor and he admired him as a strong and smart leader, but hange is a different kind of smart and i can easily imagine armin falling for their giant brain. i hc that armin spent a lot of time with them in their lab exchanging theories about the world outside, once he overcame his initial fear of how intense they can get. when hange appoints him next commander before their sacrifice, it betrays a deep connection the two of them must have had during the time gap (one more reason to hate it in my love/hate relationship to it btw!), when hange must have been preparing him for the position for years (and i absolutely love to imagine a flustered armin trying to follow hange's train of thoughts and lessons while trying to hide his hearteyes for them hehe)

unpopular opinion: i don't think him and annie fit well together at all. i agree that they had feelings for each other bc it's canon so i can't really argue with it, but i don't see them making it in a healthy relationship in post canon. feel free to send me armin x annie fics to change my mind?

I don’t know if someone asked you this before! What are your thoughts on Mobuhan? Do you have any recs for Mobuhan stories and Eruhan stories? It’s hard to find ones focused on them or have them more fleshed out as a side pairing! 😅

Anyway, I think Mobuhan is a good ship and I’ve talked about them here and here. I can see its potential (especially when it comes to unrequited-love angst and yearning), but I personally prefer ships where both characters can stand on their own stories and have an approximately equal character depth (sorry Moblit, my lovely babie boy, but yams didn’t put a lot of effort in building you compared to many other characters in the story). 

However, the fanarts and AUs for Mobuhan are pretty good tho as the writers and artists pour all their love into fleshing Moblit’s character and features out, and there’s no doubt about Moblit’s selfless love and loyalty towards Hange in canonverse and fanon. My mans literally died for them and I have nothing but genuine respect and gratitude for him. 

Idk much about Mobuhan fics since I don’t read them (I rarely get time to read even Levihan rn) but I remember Jaxx used to write lots of great Mobuhan centered fics, so I’ll link their Ao3 page here. 

I love Eruhan tho! (check out my thoughts about them here and here). Again, I too, find it difficult to find Eruhan-centric fics but I’ve heard ‘Loss’ is a good one. Also @/eruhans has a list of recommendations that you can check out here!

Otp is absolutely Rivamika. No one even comes close. (Although I've def enjoyed some NSFW works of Eruri, Erejean, and the holy grail of gay SNK, Erurimike.)

I have a few brotps. The veteran trio is pretty great as well as the individual relationships therein (Eruri/Eruhan/Levihan), and I like the potential of EMA even though it was squandered in the end. I also loved Sasha and Connie's friendship, and Sasha and Mikasa's friendship even though we didn't get to see it as much.

Gonna rate these ships behind a read more so this post doesn't take up your entire dash.

Rivetra - Don't like it. I headcanon this as one-sided love on Petra's part. (I liked her and Oluo better.) I feel like Rivetra has pretty much disappeared from the SNK fandom landscape, I used to see it a lot more in the dark times between seasons 1 and 2.

Levihan - S-tier friendship, hate it as a romantic pairing. I've seen a lot of otherwise very good Levihan art that makes Hanji more feminine, which I don't like. Plus I feel like even if the two of them got wasted and fell into bed together, Levi would be incredibly turned off by Hanji's bad personal hygiene and nothing would happen.

Eruri - I don't think they ever got sexual in canon, but I do think they genuinely loved and respected each other. Eren and Mikasa take note: THIS is how you do an Ackerbond.

Ereri - Meh. Not a fan.

Rivahisu - Hate it. It feels weirdly gross to me, for some reason? Even though, fun fact, one of my first fic ideas was Hisu domming the shit out of Levi after he roughed her up and yelled at her about becoming queen. Idk, they're both so small. Their babies would be like hamsters.

Rivannie - I can't even imagine this lmao. What a weird pairing.

Rivasasha - Another one that doesn't make sense to me.

Eremika - The worst and most toxic pairing in the series. I hate everything about their dynamic. Eren is cruel to Mikasa and she just accepts his treatment without wavering in her obsessive love. She infantilizes him even though he clearly hates it, although she's right that he usually needs someone to clean up his messes. I hate that Eren claims he loves her even though he had, like, 2 moments in the entire series where he wasn't openly contemptuous of her. I don't see them as a tragic couple, unless the tragedy is that they had great potential as characters but Yams decided to hamper all the development they could have had as individuals in favor of smashing them together at the last minute with no buildup. I don't even think Eren likes Mikasa as a person very much. I'm not against childhood friends to lovers as a trope, but I think Yams did a really bad job of depicting any kind of mutually positive relationship between them.

Arumika - Cute! I have a headcanon that they've fooled around as sort of an exploratory thing out of mutual platonic love rather than being sexually attracted to each other. They have a great friendship and although I don't think they have endgame romantic potential, I could see them trying out dating but deciding that they're better off as friends.

Jeankasa - I go back and forth on this one. It's not bad, but it's no Rivamika. I did ship it initially but then Levi showed up and my interest in JK went out the window entirely. I think Jean would be a good husband to Mikasa, but after the ending of the series I question her love for him. I think she'd agree to marriage more out of the idea that they have a mutual goal of love and family and the knowledge that he'll take good care of her, and then over time maybe she would fall in love with him. I feel bad for Jeanbo because he's Mikasa's second choice both in canon and in my headcanon!

Mikahisu - I haven't really considered them as a pair before; I got the vibe that Mikasa kinda hated Historia for capturing Eren's attention before she was shoved off the page to get pregnant and... whatever she ended up doing. Fascism, I guess. I could see them getting off to a rough start but Hisu wins Mikasa over with her charm and determination.

Mikahan - Another one I haven't really considered. I think Hanji's overzealousness would turn Mikasa off, although they could have a friendship like a less playfully antagonistic Levihan.

Mikannie - I want them to be friends so badly! They could be gym buddies who kiss sometimes. With the right AU you could make this pairing like lesbian Rivamika because those girls do not like each other.

Erumika - I'm into it in theory, but when I think about the pairing I don't really feel anything about it.

Mikasasha - I wish we'd gotten to see more of their friendship. One of you (I forget who lol) also reblogs a lot of romantic Mikasasha and it turns out I'm into that as well. I think Sasha would be a good influence on Mikasa, getting her to loosen up a little, but I guess asking for well-fleshed female friendships in shonen manga is probably a bit much.

I could now see why Levi was here. For the most part he had lost so much,his family.. his friends. I thought back in this moment to when he saw Petra… her disfigured body pressed against the tree. At that moment, I had realised that even Levis squad was mortal. The saddest part was…Petra her love for Levi. She followed him till her last breath. Oluo tried so hard to be the man for her… he never got to tell her how he felt, instead for his last moments of rage and utter despair he fought for her… leaving him dead… He lost his family, Furlan and Isabel. For a deal for their citizenship… his rage that day… Erwin had told me about how he had sliced the titan into shreds after seeing Isabel’s head laying there on the floor.

How did he do it? How did he manage to keep going… no wonder he never showed his emotions to anyone, I never expected him to act like this now to me. This Levi was different, He was showing weakness, to me. Only me.

I thought back to the moments when we would come back from expeditions, with our friends our comrades missing, another empty seat at the mess hall. Asking ourselves.. What if? I could of saved Nanaba… if we had been that little bit quicker… because of me and my research… we were too slow because of me.

I remember once hearing Mike and Erwin speaking, they were close friends, till the end, Erwin trusted Mike with everything… they had seen so much death. Erwin wasn’t going to date because he didn’t want anyone to bare that pain of losing someone, as he knew how much it hurt. But there he was, telling me he cared for me…. What did this all mean. Was something triggering them?

Levi removed his hands from my face “Tch.. fuck” he muttered “Levi, it’s okay to be sad, I know that you don’t like speaking about it but sometimes its for the best! You have to keep living Levi! You have to! What would that prove if you were to break now? What about humanity? You are the strongest among men and we need you!” “Hanji, I am not giving up… you do not understand…” He stood up, his posture a little slumped. “You always look too far into things you know that?” he whispered. “Levi… “ “You can’t see it can you?” He turned his head slightly “I can’t bare the thought of losing you too”

“I’m not going anywhere” I laughed slightly scratching the back of my head. “I’m still here!” “You… You idiot!” he hissed “You don’t get it! You never do! Every Time I ran after you, every time I insulted you. I could never even comprehend how I thought about you! I care about you Hanji yet you run off constantly into danger for your research! You put yourself in danger and it kills me!” He snapped

“Levi…” “Even Moblit is smarter than you in that sense that fool is head over heels in love with you, the screaming little bitch can’t keep away from you, how he follows you and stares at you like your a diamond!” He turned to face me again “and you don’t even sense it!” “My life is to research the titans and save humanity Levi. Just like you, just like Erwin” “Don’t get me started on Erwin! That fucking shit telling you he cared! He cares?! Tch! That man couldn’t take care of you with two arms let alone his one!” “Levi… that’s too much” “No! No it’s not because I see the way you look at him and how you baby him!” “Jealous? Is that what I am sensing Levi? Because if it is you are the fool here!” “Me? The fool? No Hanji Zoe you are the fool! Because even you! The smartest out of us can’t see that Moblit… Erwin!” he looked down and whispered something faint, that I couldn’t hear “care too much about you and you panic them every day!” “Levi…” “Tch. Fuck shitty glasses”

There was a knock at the door “Whats going on in there!” It was Erwin “Oh look who has turned up now” Levi hissed, he stormed towards the door and opened it, finding Erwin, behind the door. “What!” “I had reports of shouting, so I came” “I was teaching Hanji a lesson” “It’s 2am Levi get some rest we must start preparing, we are going out in two days” and with that before he could finish his sentence Levi pushed past him “Tch” and he was gone.

I sat there for a moment before tears started to form in my eyes, I felt my heart burst, I felt my body just give up. Levi… he was right. Like always.

“What’s the matter?” Erwin was still at the door “Nothing” I muttered “dust in my eye” “Your room is spotless…”  I hadn’t even noticed, levi had cleaned too? The arrogant clean freak constantly surprised me. “Hanji.. About today” “Not you too….” I sighed “I’ll…go” he started to turn away

“No! Don’t go…” I reached out even though we were far apart. “Stay… why did you come?” “I wanted to apologize for today, what I said, I shouldn’t of. I know we shouldn’t form relationships in this line of work but.. Hanji..” “Commander.. I just want you to be happy” “Then… can’t we at least?” “Erwin, I am useless, I am a useless woman, sometimes people believe I’m a man! I am that science freak, I have been fighting for so many years, and yet all I worry about is when this will be over, and I can’t bare seeing you like this…” “Like… this?” he looked at his arm, his phantom, his missing piece… “I understand… it isn’t always appealing, I couldn’t even hold you if I wanted to… really” “No… Erwin I didn’t mean that… I meant to say that you, you are far too important to me, I can’t bare seeing you suffer yet you won’t let me help you! And it drives me to madness seeing you struggle.” “You already know how I feel, you should’ve known that the moment I announced you would be my successor.”

“You said that because you were sure you would die soon! You can’t go round doing that Erwin!” “Hanji! Listen to me!” “No! YOU LISTEN!” I stood up and went towards him and sighed “All my life I have believed that if I could just figure out what they are where they come from I would find the answer to save humanity, we have seen our comrades die! Erwin I can’t see you do the same, and I can’t bare to think of what our future would hold. We would kill each other Erwin! You hate it when I run off, you can’t stand my babbling and you hate when I just improvise our strategies on the spot” “That’s work…” “Our life is our work! Don’t you see! We have been in this same building for years now Erwin… for year and for what!” I screamed “We are killing titans but they just keep coming back! I can’t bare it! If I was to lose Le… I mean you I would..”

At that moment Erwin launched himself at me, his lips crashing against mine, my heart stopped as tears rolled down my eyes. I could feel him desperately trying to hold me, angering himself at the fact he couldn’t embrace me like how he really wanted to…

…. Please Erwin do not do this. Do not do this to me…

I felt the loss flowing through me, I felt every single death suffocate me. I remember that moment when Erwin was nearly hanged, sent to the gallows… I remember it all. That moment when I felt so lost I couldn’t breath. I couldn’t… not again. I pulled back as I looked up and saw his eyes closed just for that single fleeting second.

“Hanji…” “Erwin… Please…” “I…. I’m sorry” He dipped his head down “Goodnight Hanji” He turned and fled. But as he did,I caught a glimpse of Levi, he had been watching this whole time.

“Well… now I know” He smirked “tch”

“Oh fuck off Levi!” I said and I slammed the door and collapsed against it crying.

Chapter Four

Something was wrong with Hanji, that much Erwin was sure of. Ever since the Scouting Legion had returned from their latest failed expedition to take back Wall Maria 3 months earlier, Hanji had begun to retreat further into her research. Erwin could count how many times he had seen Hanji in those past few months on 1 hand, and none of those times had been nearly as intimate or loving as their interactions in the time before the expedition. After the disastrous 57th expedition Hanji and Erwin had finally admitted their feelings towards one another, knowing that any day could be their last. Their colleagues had no idea about their relationship, but due to a night of foolishness, all of their colleagues and most of the residents inside of the wall would soon know of their relationship. Three months had past since Hanji and Erwin’s last night together and whatever contact he had with the bespeckled woman came via Molbit; Hanji had adopted the excuse of there being some grand break through with her newest 5 meter class titan, which she had named Pip. She had even asked to be relieved of her duties as a soldier for the next few months to continue her research. Erwin had just accepted that when Hanji decided to come out of her lab that she would, that was almost 2 months ago. He had even talked to Hanji’s doctor, only to discover that Hanji had become ill with some sort of stomach bug shortly after the Legion returned from their expedition. He kept I’m contact with her doctor to monitor her condition, but after a few weeks even her doctor stopped talking to him.He had tried everything to get her to talk to him, he had even resorted to going out and finding her a nice fat 3 meter class. She had finally came out of her lab, only to thank Levi and a few of the new recruits her new subject. She ignored him completely. After that Erwin gave up all hope. Erwin was in his office as usual, going over mounds and mounds of paper work, most of them letters to the families of the recent casualties of the expedition, when a knock on his door jarred him from his work. “Come in.” He answered the soft knock with an uninterested voice. Erwin sat with his head still looking down at the letter to a family that just wanted their daughter home, they would be getting nothing more than a bloodstained green cloak and a letter from the Survey Corps expressing how their daughter’s sacrifice helped humanity. Only when the person standing in front of his desk cleared their throat did Erwin look up to see a haggard Hanji Zoë standing in front of him with red puffy eyes. Erwin stood up clumsily from his chair, knocking it over, and fell over the discarded chair before regaining his composure and walking(more like stumbling) over to Hanji. “Uh uh um Ha.. Hanji, what brings you,” Erwin was cut off by Hanji shoving a thick envelope into his hands. After that she looked up at him with tears in her dark eyes, saluted him, then left as quickly as she came. Erwin stood, frozen in his spot for a good 5 minutes after Hanji left. Once he regained his composure he walked back over to his desk and emptied the contact of the envelope that he had received from Hanji.

Everyone inside of the Survey Corps secondary HQ was talking about Commander Erwin’s earlier antics. “I don’t think that I have ever seen him run so fast. Armin, what do you think happened to make Commander Eyebrows run so fast?” Jean Kirschstein not so quietly asked a smiling Armin Arlert after they finished a tough training session. Armin only smiled in return. He knew exactly why Commander Erwin had been running so fast, and he wasn’t about to tell a soul.

Erwin burst out of his office with a piece of paper in his hands, he almost ran over a very confused Mike and Nanaba who shook off the frantic commander before returning to their walk. How could she not tell him such big news? How could she make him feel like he had done something horrible to her for almost 4 months? Erwin continued to think the same type of thoughts as he ran down flight after flight of stairs, out the doors that let to the courtyard that housed Pip the 5 meter titan and a now smiling Hanji. She was lying down next to the heavily restrained titan poking its face with some sort of metal rod that was connected to a wired box nearby. He could hear the moans and groans that were coming from the titan and the fact that he could smell burning flesh was a big indicator that the woman he loved more than anyone in this hellish world was electrocuting the titan. And after the news she had just gifted him he was 100x more nervous about her being near a titan. To say that Erwin was mad was an understatement, the man was livid. Molbit had pulled Hanji away from the hungry jaws of the electrocuted titan just in time for Erwin to March over to Molbit and grab the giggling scientist from his arms. Once she saw who had grabbed her she became as still and silent as the grave, as did everyone else in the courtyard. Most of them actually left. “You damn crazy woman what the hell of you think you are doing?! You give me news like this” Erwin dramatically shoved the papers into Hanji’s now trembling hands before continuing his speech, “and then you come out here and almost get yourself and OUR child killed just for the sake of an experiment?! I haven’t seen nor heard from you in almost 4 months and then I find out that the reason you have been so distant is because you were carrying my child, and you are afraid. Zoe, what is wrong. What did u ever do to make you so scared?” Erwin had moved forward to the trembling, sobbing woman before he wrapped his large arms around her much smaller form. By this time there wasn’t a single person in the courtyard, not even Moblit, most of them scared off by the Commander’s sudden outburst of rage. They stood together in the courtyard, just the two of them, and the titan who had began to quiten down. Hanji’s sobs were the only thing that could be heard throughout that entire wing of headquarters, and soon many were looking out of windows to locate the source of the strange noises. That would be so cool, to actually have an excuse to eat for two…” Sasha exclaimed before giving Connie a suggestive look. “Oh no no no Sasha, don’t be getting any ideas, no way.” Connie said in a high pitched almost pained voice, Sasha quickly dragged him away muttering things like “Gotta start early Con” and “I wan to eat for two, in like 3 days got it?” Armin, Eren and Mikasa all stood in front of the doorway to the courtyard gazing at their Superior officers. None of the, said a word until Eren suddenly, quietly said “Holy shit guys, I wonder what the eyebrows on that baby will look like.” Which earned him a laugh from Mike Ned a slap from Nanaba.
