It's Up to Me Now, Turn On the Light Bulb
We witness the suffocating button-tucking-strap-wrapping world of the adults through the lens of a working-class youngblood, Domenico, tense, nerve-wracked but holding a quiet inner confidence and a great deal of courage as he takes his first infant steps, entering a crucial metamorphic stage of his life.
Moving from his small town to the city, he encounters Antonietta, who happens to be on the same lane and pursuit in life as him—from there, they talk their way out of sharing ideals, dreams, and cherished hopes, promising a better life and future for themselves and their family. But just as soon as hearts began to melt, time rang its bell. Now on the run, the rat race began. Unfortunately, love couldn't catch up—there, it failed to blossom and lost its chance to give it a dance.
Lost the girl but got the job. Hired and employed. Now an official metropolitan dweller, a professional cynic— a mere cog in the machine. But is he ready for this change? Was he really ready-ready? But does anyone ever fully get ready? Well, It doesn't matter—it doesn't matter to the world that is constantly changing and to the time that couldn't even care less about us human beings, even whether we're ready or not. Either you take it or leave it. Use it or lose it. At the end of the day, you can have it both ways.
Does the Future Look Hopeless? Capturing a pile of rebukes and contradictions, spirits and faces sink—the grim and soul-sucking reality of adulthood and the corporate world. Il Posto genuinely observes one's transitional journey toward its significant transformative stage in life. A cautionary tale in nature that leaves a note that no one's going to prepare us for the real world (or whatever is out there on the other side), not even those already experienced or your family or friends—nothing—but only ourselves alone.

“It is clear that everyone thinks that the bad things that have happened to them had more weight than the good; if, should we have to relive our life with all the good and the bad which we know about, no one wants to be born. A beautiful life is not just the life that we know, but that which we don’t know. Not the past, but the future.”
-Dialogo di un venditore di almanacchi e di un passeggiere (1957)
