You can do it.” “Yes. Lumos. Fuck, yes.” Malfoy’s eyes opened again. “Feel it.” He grabbed Harry’s hand with his own. “Lumos. I’m doing it.” Harry could feel flickers of magic skittering all around them. He closed his own eyes and ran his fingers over the smoothness of Malfoy’s palm. “Uhh. Lumos,” Malfoy said, and Harry felt a burst of energy, brief and electric, against his fingertips. “Wow. Yes. That’s it.” He felt excitement fizzing inside him at Malfoy’s achievement. Their hands slid together, Malfoy’s thumb rubbing across the callouses at the base of Harry’s fingers. Fuck, that was distracting. Like hot sparks rushing over every nerve ending.

Excerpt:

Once they’d climbed out of the entrance and were on their feet at the top of the Gryffindor Tower staircase, Malfoy gave Harry a look he couldn’t quite read and then, leaving no room for doubt, Malfoy quirked out his elbow to offer Harry his arm. Harry looked back and forth between Malfoy’s elbow and his face, searching for the prank or the moment Malfoy was going to snatch it back and laugh at him, but none came, and so Harry exhaled slowly and then slipped his arm through Malfoy’s proffered one. Together, they set off down the stairs.

“You know, I’d sort of been wondering,” Harry said, after a moment, “if this thing really was as soft as it looked.”

“It very much is,” Malfoy replied. “The inside’s all cozy and worn.”

“Warm?”

“That too, but I meant worn, as in well-worn. Lived-in, I think they call it.”

Harry narrowed his eyes. “Well, that makes sense, as you’ve been wearing it practically non-stop since October.”

Malfoy chuckled at that. “You’d have done the same if you had one. But it was pretty well-worn before I got my hands on it too,” he said, teasingly.

The opening was obvious, and Harry really didn’t want to take the bait, but, well, despite knowing that Malfoy’s alleged and now-proven-nonexistent Hufflepuff boyfriend or girlfriend hadn’t given it to him, as well as knowing that he was being ridiculous getting so worked up over it, Harry was still curious. “If I just flat-out ask you, like I was planning at the beginning of the year, you’re not going to give me a straight answer, are you?” he asked, already knowing the answer.

“You could try,” Malfoy replied.

“Oh, that’s a ‘no’.”

“That is very much a ‘no’,” Malfoy teased.

“Fuck, you really are awful, you know that?”

“Again, Potter, I am quite aware. The real question is, what does it say about you that you’re attracted to me anyway?”

Harry stopped them in their tracks. “I’m not attracted to you,” he insisted, but it sounded hopelessly weak to his own ears anyway. Malfoy just pursed his lips and stared at Harry until he was forced to admit, “All right, fine, yes, I am, Merlin help me, I’m attracted to you. No earthly idea why, though.”

“I think it’s because you want someone who can both keep up with you and challenge you to do more or do better, and,” Malfoy said smugly, “I like to think that I most certainly fit those qualifications.”

“Because you’re a total arse?”

“No, or, well, yes, partly--because honestly, Potter, you’re a bit of an arse yourself, you know--but really because...well, because...oh, fuck it!” Malfoy grabbed Harry by the shirt, tugged him in, and kissed him soundly.

Harry had only experienced a few kisses in his short eighteen years on earth, and all of them had been different.

With Cho, it had been wet and cold, and while he certainly didn’t blame her because she’d had incredibly complicated feelings and likely hadn’t been ready so soon after Cedric had died, the kiss had been painfully awkward and had quite honestly put him off kissing for a long while.

With Ginny, it had been soft and warm and sort of equaling the feeling he got when he was able to sink into a warm bath after a hard work-out. Kissing her had felt safe and easy, which wasn’t bad at all, but it wasn’t exactly what he’d always expected a kiss to feel like.

When he’d stood there and watched Hermione throw down her wand, run over to Ron, and sweep him up in the biggest, grandest kiss he’d ever seen, had watched Ron abandon all sense and lift her into his arms to kiss her fiercely back, Harry knew what he’d been missing in those soft sweet kisses from before.

He felt it now.

It was like Fiendfyre in his veins, rushing through him and threatening to devour him whole. He was being swallowed up by it, consumed by it. He was never going to be the same after this moment. The passion and the intensity overwhelmed him, and he gave himself up to it.

Malfoy sucked on his lower lip, and Harry moaned softly, as he wrapped his arms around Malfoy’s waist and pulled him in. Their bodies pressed flush together, and Malfoy ground his hips against Harry’s own, eliciting another agonized moan from Harry. Merlin, it felt so good. Malfoy felt so incredible, so good, so everything--it was too much and it wasn’t enough and it was everything in between.

“Come on, Potter,” Malfoy urged, sounding like the words had been punched out of him.

“Wha--what?” Harry managed, dazed and dizzy with want.

Malfoy turned suddenly and started towards the Slytherin dormitory portrait entrance at the end of the hallway. “Come on, you can walk me back to my room,” he said, in low voice.

Harry swallowed hard. “To your room?” he echoed, barely a whisper.

“If you like,” Malfoy replied, tossing it almost casually over his shoulder. He was tense though, Harry could see it in the rigid line of his back, but whether out of fear of rejection or something else, Harry couldn’t be sure.

He wasn’t ready, though, he knew that. “Wait,” he said, before reaching out and tugging Malfoy back. Malfoy turned around, and Harry wrapped him in an embrace again. He kissed Malfoy again, passionately, but a little less intensely this time. He let himself memorize the shape of Malfoy’s mouth, let himself sigh as Malfoy pressed even closer and slotted his lips between Harry’s, opening himself again like a flower to the sun.

Arg! I'd hoped to spend sometime planting the pretty flowers I bought yesterday but to my dismay I discovered an invasive weed was mixed in with my Shasta Daisies, which are just about to bloom. The kind of weed that attaches to your clothes and skin. Gloves came out and two hours later, I made a huge dent. Flowers tomorrow.

I had mentioned there were would be additional categories I'd throw into the mix and today I have one I've been anxious to get to. I'm going to call it Magical Elves. They are the people who help make fandom run. I mentioned @phoenixacid in an earlier post, who has been hosting @hd-fan-fair for ten years. This category will cover folks like her and that do even more...yes, even more...

What I'm reading:

On the Discord Drarry Fans Writers and Artists there is a channel for recs. I stole this one from there but then discovered I'd already read it. However, it was long enough ago that I don't remember all of the details. I think I read it when it first came out and before I hopped back into fandom in spring of 2021. The Ordeal of Being Known (146k) by @lou-isfake. I'm only on chapter 3 right now but I just love this Draco and his Oscar the Grouch house-slippers and his house-elf Timsy. The writing is so fresh and clever, I find myself smiling most of the time. Here's the summary, which I think gives you a flavor of the writing style I'm talking about:

When Auror Potter is anonymously cursed with silence by being forced to hide his own voice inside his mind, there's unfortunately only one person in the country with the qualifications to fix it: Certified and Licensed Healer Legilimens, Draco Malfoy, specialist in Mind Curses and Afflictions. It's obviously a terrible idea, a disaster waiting to happen, but Draco's never been able to back down from a challenge... especially from Potter. Features fuzzy cartoon slippers, devious house elves, 90s music, and lots—LOTS—of memories. Ron is annoyingly hot, Hermione sees right through you, Harry is a powerful idiot, and Draco is a reclusive masochist that would buy an entire city if it would make a kid happy. (And Pansy is "5'2, I wanna dance with you, and I'm sophisticated fun.")

The first person I want to highlight in this category is actually someone I've met in person at HP Cons and we've stayed in touch over the years in real life. *hugs darlin* You've probably seen @sassy-cissa's name as an author or maybe an email asking you about a fic for a fest but I'm betting most of you have no idea how much she's done for fandom for more than a decade and half, especially for Drarry fandom.

The prophet soon closed down after a few more months due to lack of participation (fandom had moved away from LJ).

Eris Life Stories Part 1

I was looking at my yearly Solar Return charts and here's a fun thing I noticed: because Eris is so slow moving if it aspects something in your natal chart it will keep aspecting it for years. I don't have a list of examples, but its certainly something to look out for

Aries - Eris Conjunctions

Look for the energy of a fighter - Eris is already a fighter and it makes sense in Aries. Look for fights. Look for when you're looking for fights.

my transiting Eris stayed conjunct Natal Eris till 1991. When my natal and transiting Erises decoupled my big sister - the warrior and advocate of the children in our family, moved away.

Eris stayed conjunct my Eris till 2008 and was conjunct my Sun from 1999. 1999-2008 covers the time when I saw myself as a Discordian. My Eris was within 1° of my Sun 2016 to now - the time in my adult life where I have made all my decisions. About marriage, career, transition. My Sun Eris cazimi lasted 2019 to 2021 - a period when I was building up abilities as an advocate and activist but wasn't beholden to anyone.

2026 will be the first year my Sun is not conjunct Eris. It will also be the first year of Eris conjunct North node. This will last till 2068, the first year that Eris is conjunct my natal Venus. This will last till 2103. I know death predictions are a topic that makes people angry at the moment. But based on this chart, I predict I will never experience a solar return chart where Eris is not conjunct something.

Libra - Eris Oppositions

Look for times of bullying, people not letting you fit in. Maybe look for times when, suddenly, you don't feel that, maybe Eris has passed.

Diane Abbot is a good Libra example of this. Her whole life is defined strongly by Eris oppositions, at first

1953-1976: Eris Opposing her Sun, growing up in an incredibly racist society. The Sun left this conjunction when she joined the Civil Service and began her professional career.

1995-2003: Eris Opposing Mercury. She was the first black female Labour MP. The party didn't like her under Blair. She was from the wrong faction and people were concerned that she was racist against white people. Britain was awful and still is. In 2003 the Iraq War started and the left-wing faction in Labour started to gain more influence, and Diane Abbott got a permanent position on the UK's flagship politics TV show.

2011: Diane Abbott's Neptune is conjunct Eris, Saturn is nearby. She gains influence, standing for Labour leader in 2011 and taking one of the mot important positions in the party. And people hated her. They hated the image they had of her in their heads, which is very Eris-opposing Neptune. As time passed they hated her for being in the wrong faction again (she's unelectable - very Saturn opposing Eris). In 2032 her Eris will fully oppose her Saturn and after that, hopefully, her remarkable career will start to get the respect it deserves.

He looked like a prince in a story book, with his fine-boned face and his silver-sleek hair. “Lumos,” Malfoy said, and then made a low sound, a little grunt of pleasure. “Yes,” he said, eyes still closed, and Harry had to shift on the bed because the look on Malfoy’s face was making him think of something quite different. “Go on. You can do it.” “Yes. Lumos. Fuck, yes.” Malfoy’s eyes opened again. “Feel it.” He grabbed Harry’s hand with his own. “Lumos. I’m doing it.” Harry could feel flickers of magic skittering all around them. He closed his own eyes and ran his fingers over the smoothness of Malfoy’s palm. “Uhh. Lumos,” Malfoy said, and Harry felt a burst of energy, brief and electric, against his fingertips. “Wow. Yes. That’s it.” He felt excitement fizzing inside him at Malfoy’s achievement. Their hands slid together, Malfoy’s thumb rubbing across the callouses at the base of Harry’s fingers. Fuck, that was distracting. Like hot sparks rushing over every nerve ending.

Wizards Hearts Recs: Coffeeshop

Wizards Hearts was a four-month-long Drarry reading fest. Players were given a playing deck of 52 tropes, and were asked to find 52 different fics to read and comment on to fill their decks. To prevent the same few fics from being read, fics were restricted to only being used for the game three times before being considered ineligible for further points.
