Discipline isn’t about enduring exhaustion or overworking; it's about showing up consistently, even in small ways. It’s not proving you can study 17 hours straight but mastering the art of sustainable effort.
True discipline is freedom—freedom from distractions, societal pressures, and anything that pulls you off your own path.

mecha discord rambling
was allergic to mecha when I was young so I didn't get into evangelion until way later. I wouldn't be suprised if the game was japan only either
Neon genesis evangelion... Yeah that sure is a series. Lots of interesting concepts the production was a disaster. That last episode was a slide show
I like the lore of the original anime better. Well the videogame lore. But the remake movies are overall just better done. remember how in the anime people will vaguely reference adam and the lore of evas. Well it's only in a ...playstation? fame where they actually wrote out the lore, what nerv is what the angels are. And tada it was ancient aliens all along but the aliens were human's... Ancestors/creators. The progenitors split their souls only arcs of two types seeds of power? will? (Adam and the other angels) And seeds of life (lilin/humans). it does make everyone sooo mysterious in the anime. Where everything is obscure and opaque. Lore dumping it hard to do. I remember the series ergo proxy and deca-dence that lore dump is the funniest ways possible and just lean into the emersion breaking
the last episode It definitely was atmospheric. Also i applaud the animators for making something so incomprehensible. They did good with the 0 animation budget. The first episode with shinji on the train was also very atmospheric. and that's where all their animation budget went.
Code geas was another very conceptually strong anime but it's execution wasn't very good. I remember being disappointed all the interesting stuff would happen offscreen and then the on screen parts were all the boring connecting parts were people talked about the aftermath of the interesting parts. The political maneuvers and most of the actual plot happens offscreen. We don't often see the characters taking actions just talking about what has happened. Or the highschool setting wasn't really well used we dont really see them being students.
Ergo proxy is one of those incomprehensible series where you need 3 PhDs to understand what is going on like houseki no kuni or serial experiments lain. It starts as like a cyberpunk noir thriller and then becomes a post apocalyptic episodic roadtrip adventure until the finale which where the drama comes back. Setting is a destroyed earth where people live in authoritarian domed cities.
Deca-dence starts off with the last humans fighting monsters and living in a giant robot city that can like walk around. It starts off about a mechanic girl that dreams big who meets this despondent middle aged dude at work. I cant say much because there's major spoilers in the first episodes but it's a subversion of the usual scifi tropes and the humans vs. existential threat of monsters genre. I guess you could say it's action adventure. Deca-dence is really fun and lively with some serious moments. I found the story beats exciting and I always wanted to know what happens next. I really liked it. Definitely top 30 anime if not higher
The quote's from a podcast. I was thinking about this back when evangelion first came out the twist that the evas weren't robots but cyborgs was massive but now in 2024 it's like oh yeah remi's a pilot and linguini is his mech. "you know what the weak point of a mech is? ... The fucking pilot"

I was crazy about dragon age, for like a year or 2 i was pretty active in the lore and theory crafting communities. It has that hybrid gameplay so i was always pausing but the game isnt designed to be paused so it mostly just made combat really slow. Loved the story didnt like the combat which is why i still havent finished a da game despite watching multiple playthroughs. Compared to say 13 sentinels where most of the combat is spent paused so it essentially plays like a turn based. Maybe that was why i liked it. 13S was my first rts and after 3 battles i was playing on the hardest difficulty. I then bumped it down so i could 100% the archive the first time instead of having to play a map multiple times. I was too impatient for more plot haha
I HIGHLY recommend Japanese audio for 13s. Okino's voice in eng is BAD. He sounds exactly like manuela from fe3h. Where as in jp he sounds closer to kurabe. The archive is like 1/3 of the game the devs intended players to check it regularly. Very useful for piecing things together.

2 weeks later
They were probably close friends! I think Edelgard's actions did hurt Rhea so much because of the reasons outlined above, but over and on top of that, this is a betrayal from the descendent of her friend, the friend that she trusted enough to give her Crest to
Willy mention!
Bear in mind that during CF's final map - the one where our beloved Supreme Leader accuses her of hating human and humanity because she is a nabatean, but that was cut with the localisation for some reason - what are the names of the golems fielded in Firdhiad?
Chevalier - an apostle - Luca - a saint - and a bunch of other people we don't know but... one of the golem is named Wilhelm!
ergo, when Rhea is at her worst (tm) at least mentally, she relies on golems named after people who are/were pretty close to her, the apostles who helped her try to resurrect her mom once, a saint (we don't know what was her relation to Saint Luca) and... Willy, a human.
Interestingly, if you used Supreme Leader to fight her in the previous map, the "human hating Rhea" mourns having to fight Supreme Leader because... Supreme Leader is Willy's descendant, and 1k years later, to Rhea, Willy is still the guy who "supported and saved" her.
Fun fact, Nopes amped it up to 11 so much that whenever you pit Rhea (NG+ and in the history maps?) against Supreme Leader, Rhea always mentions Wilhelm, noting her resemblance to her 1k years long dead ancestor, or wishing he was still around.
To Rhea, the Hresvelgs are first and foremost, Willy's descendants and she has high expectations from them, or at least expect them to act in a way that would not shame or be contrary to what Willy himself once did, or would have done.
Which is why she takes the betrayal from House Hresvelg, especially, very bad, Nopes also gave some voice to Seteth and Flayn about being betrayed by the descendants of the ones they trusted but it feels less "personal" than Rhea's -
But let's not kid ourselves, the reason why she goes ballistic in CF isn't only because Willy's scion goes haywire, but because Sitri's kid - who might be or not her mom - tries to kill her or at least sides with Nemesis v.2.
So to comment on your original post @lumeha, Rhea is hurt in CF (and potentially in the other routes too, but since Billy and some humans are still on her side it's less pronounced) because - as she says it in her last battle quotes - she is betrayed again by humanity after having trusted them again.
Unlike her avian bro, she didn't fig away saying humanity sucks after the War of Heroes, no. Rhea remained because she cares about humans and Fodlan - both as her duty commands, as Sothis' proxy but also, I believe, on a personal level.
As you noted, she cares - loves? as much as she can given her special situation - humans and... CF/Flamey stuff is how they reward her lol - which is why the perceived betrayal hurts so much, and why she is so angry/disappointed/upset.
Thinking about it, like, genuinely, I think characterising Rhea as someone who hates humanity because of her reaction to Edelgard in the Holy Tomb... misses the fact that, for me, she can only react that strongly to what she sees as betrayal because she cares about humans as a whole. That's why it sends her into a spiral. That's why it hurts her to the point of anger : because it stabs her with pinpoint accuracy into the still bleeding parts of her, the part of her that is the only survivor of Zanado. The part of her that was beaten bloody open and to a pulp by humans who were greedy for power and didn't care who they killed in the process.
It feels to me like this is exactly why she gets so deeply affected by this - because she did put a lot of her chips on the bet that humans are better than Nemesis and the Agarthans. To the point of sparing the children of her enemies, their families, their clans. To the point of repeatedly opening her home for them.
That's... not the behaviour of someone who despises humanity
Is she letting herself be close to people ? No. But does that mean she doesn't care for them ? No, not at all. She is just. Closed off. That's not the same as not caring.

“From the perspective of others I am part of the world, but when I observe the world from my perspective I am nowhere to be found. To observe is to create perspective. I can never cease to be the point of origin from my perspective. I observe that which is not myself.”

"All those who wander in the darkness seek the light. But when they reach the light they turn their eyes away from the blinding glare. You can even sense the pain. The truth is like that too. Someday your eyes will be burnt by the light of truth and you will know eternal darkness. That is the judgement that awaits".

Me, watching this for the first time: I bet they can pull of every genre but please let it not be romance
Nobody:
Ep 12:
Re-L: *sights and sits down beside seemingly sleeping Vincent* so that's why I followed you
Re-L, talking to herself: I- I guess I felt myself being strangeley drawn to you- I thought about you more than a little during this journey... Tell me, are you-
*gets interrupted*
Vincent, who has been listening: I need to confess my feelings RIGHT NOW or she WILL kill me *flips Re-L over* I love you
Re-L: Huh?
Vincent: I- I said I love you Re-L!
*cut to a different scene*
Me: What just happened

For a Memorable Legacy
Sometimes I stand over the remains of an extinguishing cigarette
and stay still until the fire dies out.
Sometimes I feel like I'm sitting at the edge of the world
just pacing myself to a dying beat,
and watching everything as it dies out.
Sometimes I feel like a poor analogy.
And it's not sad.
.
You see I have little time,
I'm nothing but a faint whisper,
nothing but a frail speck of dust.
Quivering,
without a trail, without a trace.
I'm a shortened breath,
the one one makes before a pause,
or when one is interrupted.
What if life is meant to resonate in the way Whitman said?
To make my part and to contribute a verse to an endless cycle of life and death,
to leave a worthy mark in my short stay.
Who am I to try to leave anything as a memoir?
A little something to remember me by.
As if that would make the world inside my head spin again
or simply stay once I depart.
Should I play my part in this bitter display of thoughts on end?
Aim for the remembrance of a lost consciousness?
For a memorable legacy,
a meaningful say in this meaningless place.
Something that will open a door for it take precedence
over everything else,
to grant my death that guarantee of a purpose,
if that makes sense.
.
I know.
I know I'm saying something that has been already said.
Many times, I bet.
But I bide my time writing about death and heartbreak.
And this composition is purely a mess,
there's no metrical intent, no math,
no pattern at sight to try to understand.
Yet I know I will be judged for my poetry, not for my math
because my poetry resembles my way of life,
and chaotic behaviour just takes the prize
every damn time.
Now I hear people calling my name,
echoing in the awake parts of my brain.
But now it's 6:21am,
it's late,
so I sing a bit for the sake of the restless and the wicked who roam this town today.
.
Nonetheless,
to sleep I'm not a simple friend.
To sleep I am the poor analogy that stands tall,
the dynamo that keeps the sky's framework spinning
and setting it alight when the morning comes around.
Ra, the god of the sun,
the sun of the god.
Yet I'm not a false god, I'm just a falsely accused sun.
The eye of heaven,
craving the black and blue kiss of death,
half in love with a goodbye.
.
An extinguishing fire;
Who will beat for me when it finally dies out?

The past few days I watched Ergo Proxy and I'm not sure how to feel about it. There were some interesting concepts, some interesting episodes and characters with growth but after about episode 18 they start cramming an awful lot of story into a lot of disjointed episodes with the final two being a jumble of tying up loose ends.
All the foreshadowing or easter eggs in symbolism, names and quotes makes it feel more layered than it is. The fact is that even after all this time we have little anchoring to Vincent, who he is and what his strengths and flaws are. He makes very few choices for himself instead being propelled forward by stuff that happens to him so we don't get to see much of the guy. He gives Re-L the gun that can kill him, he chooses to engage with Pino once he accepts that human sentience isn't the only sentience, beyond that we're told he's a generally good guy but doesn't seem that fazed by the death of a city and how he'll treat the returning creators and other proxies is unclear, guess they're trying to say that he'll decide when he meets them and always be fighting dualing instincts (even though he supposedly killed off that part of his identity) but I felt disconnected from his journey and the stakes in general by the end.
I would have enjoyed the various excursions into his psyche if we'd been given some kind of insight into who Vincent truly wants to be as a person beyond the fantasy of being someone else.
I didn't mind changes in pacing and tone, the surrealism and the slow doling out of lore but as we got towards the end, it started to feel like the time was being mismanaged between the surreal, the riddles and 'piece the unexplained situation together' type episodes. I'd lost patience with the format by the end.
How to explain : I don't mind having to figure out how the world works, I do mind having to try to understand character motivations working backwards.
The final episode has three different Monads, two Re-ls, Vincent is not just himself but two or three personas, Raul and Dedalus have goals of destruction, creation or just madness idek it's messy. It would have been interesting for the city to be around and in conflict with the new arrivals.
There were themes of fate and making your own destiny somewhere in there.
Now, that's not to say it's bad, it's actually a very decent story for teens and adults. It just didn't find the right balance in the final act.
I'd recommend it if you like thoughtful moody anime. The visuals are very nice (so much better than cgi anime or pan n scan anime) but Re-l's nose seems to be a different lengths on her face in different moments.
She's an engaging character, I really liked that she was sheltered, selfish and disconnected from her heart while being very capable in other areas. Her finding her balance and faith was a great payoff in the mess of the final episodes.
