I wanted to compare attendance and revenue of Coldplay's and Swift's tours for the same venue to have factors be as similar to each other as possible to see what is the difference in average ticket price, but there is no data for that of Swift's tour, only summed up numbers. Interestingly Coldplay, despite still touring, has published this type of data for almost all of their played shows.
So while summed up data is not perfect for this - because of reports about Swift suddenly adding $20 tickets with no view for some of the last shows; tickets for at least one venue of Swift's shows being drastically lowered few days before event (I think it was for Poland); because it looks like Coldplay is playing more diverse venues, when it comes to their capacities and locations (even in Europe they have more locations than Swift, not to mention Latin America and Asia), while Swift played mostly bigger venues primarly in USA and British Isles (out of total 149 shows 62 were in USA and 18 in BI) - total attendance for Eras Tour is listed as $10.1 milion with $2.077 billion in boxoffice, which gives ~$205.6 per ticket. Attendance for Music of the Spheres World Tour So far is listed as 10.3 milion, so already bigger than Eras and already most-attended concert tour ever. If Coldplay demanded same money as Swift for tickets they would have $2.118 billion with still 48 shows to go. However since Coldplay is not as greedy as Swift, their boxoffice so far is listed as $1.14 billion, which gives ~$110.68 per ticket.
In other words what record boxoffice of Swift's tour shows, while in the same time having smaller attendance and way smaller number of shows, is that her tickets were insanely inflated even for modern climate of concerts. She ripped off her fans, because she could. Holding this type of record is hard proof of pure greed and not something any decent person would be proud of.
Also since talking about Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour, they approached this tour specifically with at least 50% CO2 reduction goal compared to their previous tour and managed to break it with 59%, partnered with various companies like BMW, Worldwide Sales or PRG Projects to create new, more eco friendly technology for concerts, which already influenced tours of other artists like Billy Eilish and Shawn Mendes, pledged to plant tree for each sold ticket, their confetti and wristbands are biodegradable and had their methods adopted by Live Nation to provide green options to more artists.
👏👏👏👏👏

HN has a deserved reputation for being a) a bunch of know-it-all smartasses and b) sneering at anything related to popular culture, so it's sort of heartwarming to see that the consensus opinion on this thread is "whoa, this is an ingeniously simple solution I wouldn't have thought of; props to the engineers".
(the tl;dr is that the crowd light-up wristbands at Taylor Swift's concert just had IR receivers, same as a television, and from the stage they had an IR spotlight which could beam commands to whatever part of the crowd they pointed the spotlight at. No ridiculously complicated wireless network plus centralized C&C needed. It really is brilliantly simple and elegant)

Philm Club W2 - Oct 19, 2015
Here are my stream-of-consciousness thoughts from this week's Philm Club 💖
immediately feeling so nostalgic for this era, but also so so sad for how exhausted they were all the time, now that we have more insight into how much they overworked themselves
they are so vocal in today's era about how much they love us but I'm reminded how much they loved us then, how much they have always loved us (despite the nature of our relationship back then being more complicated sometimes)
TATINOF 😭
GOD what these two kids would think about TIT I can't even imagine - both the production quality/etc of the show itself but also the content and the way they relate to us now
"literal butt being showed to the entire audience" to whatever degree Sister Daniel would send 2015 fans into a coma, it would put 2015 Dan in a grave
another incredible story about Phil injuring himself in a silly way on stage (some things never change and I love him so much)
there really is something so precious about seeing their natural, unscripted, easy banter and silliness - I miss that about the livestreams
I reaaaaally miss regular updates on dan's music takes wow
something about rewatching this live show is throwing me right back into my 2015 brain way more than rewatching the videos from that time, it's making me so nostalgic in a way I wasn't expecting? This takes me back to the experience of being a fan at that time in a way nothing else does
I really hope they do something else one day that allows them to tour after TIT - it remains obvious just how much they love it
I haven't rewatched any younow (certainly not since the dapg return) and it's not that I'm shocked, but seeing how much Dan has changed in the last 9.5 years (even just the last 5-7) is making me teary. The way he jokes about himself is so wildly different now, and it's so so precious to me
I would have given anything to get this kind of livestream about random little tour bts stories for TIT
oh to live in the brain of phil lester, getting so sidetracked by the laundry scent of his own tshirt
I continue to be baffled by the english school systems??
aww the very 00s-10s urge to wear festival wristbands, what a perfect merch item for them to do
TABINOF remains (to me) one of the coolest things they've ever done and I'm so glad they made it the big deal it deserved to be
They're describing being interviewed on BBC Breakfast, and on one hand it's hilarious that 10 years later they're still being asked the same questions about the basics of creating and making a living from YouTube content, but also I forget that at the time, nobody was really doing what they were doing? With the book and tour they really broke so many molds and were such pioneers in their field. They're our silly little guys, but also they are... incredibly creative and proficient in their profession and were trailblazers for so many people coming behind them
imagine living in a time where dan casually references recent danisnotonfire uploads, it feels like another life
DYINGGG over phil mocking dan's hand gestures when talking about TWD
I do wish I could watch The Martian for the first time again actually
I should give the TABINOF audiobook a re-listen... the Dining Chair Quiz is bringing back so many memories
Dan unintentionally prophesying WAD there at the end is so special to me ("you think the end is nigh?" "yeah")
The precious, priceless, Ranch Metaphor of their dynamic is lovely through this whole thing and I just love them both
#dan and phil#philm club#pretty sure this is unintelligible nonsense but I want to participate anyway

A letter to Reita... From my heart to yours.
(Under the cut for your sake.)
My dearest れいた,
I know you will not be able to read this letter, but I hope these words still reach you wherever you are; from one soul to another.
I don't even know where to begin... I never thought I would have to write a goodbye letter like this to you. This all feels like a bad dream that I cannot wake up from.
I followed you and your journey with the GazettE for 18 long years.. I grew up with you. It feels like I've lost a dear friend, a family member, if you will. There are no words to describe this grief I'm feeling. Believe me, I have tried...
You guys were with me through everything from my teenage years to this day. If I was happy, you were there. If I was sad, you were there. You were always there. I could always rely on you being by my side when I needed you.
When you came to Finland for the first time in 2007 I queued outside the venue in the cold late October weather all night long, just so I could get a good viewing spot for the gig. It was insane... I was so cold and sleep deprived on the day of the gig, only having slept for like an hour, haha. But when you guys came on stage, none of it mattered. I was so happy. It was a dream come true.
And that's when I fell in love with you, Reita. That was the turning point. I had been listening to your music for a little over a year by then but Ruki was the one who held my heart. But then you.. You captivated me the moment you stepped on that stage. Of course I had always noticed you, your basslines and talent but.. when I saw you play live, it was almost hypnotizing. Especially during RIDE WITH THE ROCKERS. I was so incredibly happy you played it that time. I still remember the way you moved your belly and hips and shoulders when you were standing in the spotlight... Being admired by everyone.
I was fortunate enough to see you guys live two more times; in 2013 and in 2016 during your world tours. Especially in 2016 when I had the VIP wristband and I got to meet you. I still remember how surreal it all felt to me. It was all like a dream. The most wonderful dream. I was supposed to tell you then how much I admired you, how talented you were. But I couldn't get the words out of my mouth. Not with you staring at me with your (one visible) eye. All I managed to do was give you the little gift bag with the bracelet in it with a shaky "douzo". You were a little surprised by the gift and thanked me "Ahh, arigatou". Then you took my hand and we thanked each other again. Now I kick myself... I should've told you exactly how I felt. Now I will never get another chance to do it. Now you will never know...
You were so incredibly kind and sweet and caring...
Writing about you in the past tense breaks my heart. The world has lost something too pure, too beautiful.
Your passion towards the GazettE was a thing to admire. How you cared for your fans.. You never took anything for granted. All the tears you shed after your tour finals.. they were real (even when you in an interview joked that they were cgi *laugh*). That was how much you cared. That was your true strength.
There will never be anyone else like you.
The world will never be the same after losing you.
Your bass defined Gazette's music in a way. Everytime I listen to any of your songs, your bass stands out. It is incredible. I don't think any other band does that; puts the bass in such a spotlight. That's how important you are, ..were.
You are the reason I even own a bass. I wanted to be able to play like you. Sadly I cannot... I was too short-tempered and lost my nerve when I couldn't get my fingers to co-operate *laugh* But my bass is still there, waiting. Reminding me of you. Maybe one day I'll be able to pick it up again and think of you with a smile on my face.
I really do hope you know how loved you were -and still are-; by everyone. The band, the fans... How much you were respected by your peers and other musicians. You defined an era in v-kei. That's how important you were. Are.
There are so many more things I would like to say to you. But maybe another time. Maybe I'll write you another letter. Maybe someday I'll meet you again in the afterlife and I'll be able to tell you face to face everything I haven't been able to so far.
I hope you are now at peace and can rest.
I love and miss you so much.
Thank you for everything you have given me. It is a debt I don't think I'll ever be able to repay you.
Rest in peace, my beautiful angel.
With all my love,
Marisa

Eras Tour, London - Night 8
Seeing all the Taylor t shirts around London
Small girls asking to swap friendship bracelets
Waiting outside Wembley and seeing a resident had put a Taylor Swift sign over their balcony
The many songs that were name dropped in the safety speech
The security guards wearing a hundred friendship bracelets
The costumes and sparkles ✨
The fact that we found a spot almost front and centre

The screams
The costumes
The sheer scale of everything
The sound editing of the opening sequence of album titles name dropped in her songs
The emotions watching Taylor enjoy herself
Screaming along to as many songs as I could
The way I forgot about every ache and pain in my body
The small boy who got the 22 hat
Taylor wearing her floor length, red and black ombré coat and me with 100% seriousness going ‘ooh nice coat’

While traveling to England this morning I was sorting out and shorting my concert clips from the eras tour in Friday, I wanted to show them to my Grandma, I thought it would be something nice I could share with her that wouldn't remind her of her condition, and it was an event that she has been asking me about everytime we've spoken in the last year (one of the last things I spoke to her about, she loved also telling me things she saw about Taylor in the paper as she knew I am a fan.) I brought all the wristbands I swpped to show her and tell the stories, it might seem juvenile but thought it would be nice. When sorting the clips I was thinking how I would definitely leave marjorie out, as it handels death, and on Saturday she was told she was terminally ill.
She was already unresponsive when I arrived at the hospital, I spoke to her but I have no idea if she could hear me, and she passed only a few hours later (a nurse suggested that she was holding on for my branch of the familys arrival), I miss her so much already I hate being in her house without her.
Now this shitty low quality video of marjorie I quickly filmed (so much worse than most of my other clips bc at the time I didn't relate to the song and didn't care) is the only one I can bring myself to watch
#trauma dumping on here bc i dont know who to talk to#hate living abroad so much right now#the rest of the family had time with her after finding out she was dying#marjorie taylor swift#grandma#grief#sad songs#trauma dump

6, 20, + 63 for the ask game :-)
:-D <- the nose makes him look more grown up but still goofy. middle aged but still fun
6. What are you excited for?
right now? my little brothers are about to both start new things which is exciting vicariously but also some friends are in town! hi friends! (<-theyre not on tumblr) and i get to see them soon. yippee!!
20. Are you starting to realize anything?
i realise this every two months but i don't think i want to be a professional artist i just think i want to work in the arts in a guidance role/i get a lot more professional pride and sense of achievement helping someone achieve their goals artistically than i do from achieving my own and honestly im GOOD at support roles like working as basically a pa or editor or whatever. but this means giving up the idea of being acknowledged on a wider scale for my own perspectives and artistic vision and letting myself just be a support role... hmm tough thing to ponder that also doesn't at all relate to my current line of work so like. maybe don't worry about it king (im king)
63. First concert?
this carbon dates who i was online but do you guys remember bry? yeah with the. fabulous foursome (?) (dan phil crabsticks and kickthepj) well on the outside of that group was a fifth guy on youtube called brybry? bribri? it's been YEARS but he made music mostly he was honestly more in the dodie clark sphere of brittube and if i remember right he had a music video or something similar with kickthepj which is how i got into him ANYWAY. he did a tiny uk tour at the height of his popularity and he played a tiny venue near me and i didn't really know him but my friends from the neighbouring secondary happened to give me a lift home the night that he was local (bc i stayed at school late for a netball practice and their school just finished later than mine) and on the drive back they asked if I wanted to come with and since the tickets were like £15 quid and i had lift there and back secured my mom let me. it was honestly pretty cute AND I SAW ORLA GARLAND and got a signed disc of her first ep whose music i still enjoy to this day but idk if that's mostly bc of the nostalgia factor of this cute concert. i got a brybry rubber wristband thing bc those were still a thing for emo bands and my little brother cut it up like two years later in a boredom curiousity way (he was like 7) and i got so disproportionately angry about it that he still recounts it as 'How He Realised Objects Hold Sentimental Value' and he fished the bits out of the trash. i have them in a memory box of that era bc i thought one day i would reconstruct the brybry wristband (which i never wore, bc i didn't feel like enough of a real fan) . yeah
