For my final project I chose to use Formal, Abstract, and Surrealism topics we used throughout the semester.

To start I chose formal by using warm(red) and cool(blue) colors with a fade beginning in the red and staying steady thru the blue. I liked the way it brought the attention to my art work below.

Then I used Abstract by including different shapes and used markers to color them in different ways bringing some energy to the project and something different. Which goes along with the story line behind my characters drawn below as they live eventful lives.

Lastly, I chose Surrealism by drawing two characters, Cartman and Kyle, these two are best friends who live in the same town and do tons of things together. They enjoy playing outside at their school playground and video games with their other friends.

Overall, I had an amazing time this semester learning different ways and designs of art, and I had a blast creating this masterpiece.

For my final I chose to incorporate abstract expressionism, the renaissance, and formal elements.

I incorporated formal elements by dividing the piece in half diagonally and in the top right have warm colors and the bottom left having cool colors. I tried to make it look as if the cool were transitioning into warm. I also cut out an E from a large print of the woods representing my name and my love nature.

I incorporated abstractions expressionism by finding a cutouts from magazines I thought were interesting, unique, and ones that would stand out. The goal was to have the viewer guessing why I chose to place them.

I incorporated the Renaissance by creating a unique humanoid shape, a variety of different parts and pieces from different magazines.

Final

For my final art piece I used three different movements of art. It consisted of earth movement, pop art, and finally using scraps from previous pieces to create my final project. To gain the earth movement, I wanted to base my art piece around nature, seeing as my main center piece is a tree. I wanted the grass on the bottom to really pop out and make it so that the tree looked like it was in the background.

For the pop art movement, I wanted the word Food to make up what was going to be the majority of the tree. That is why you see the Food go from the bottom to the top of the tree. I also wanted different coloring and sizes of the word food to show a little mismatch but still have a repeating theme to the piece.

Finally, for the leaves, I wanted to use as many scarps of other trees that I have already used to try and make a unique blend to an already unique tree. After seeing your comment about my midterm and the possibility of improving my art work with paint, I decided for the final piece I would stem my piece off with painting the outlining of the tree and using different art styles to fill in the remainder of the tree.

Art Final

For my final presentation, I decided to use futurism, surrealism, and abstract expressionism.

For Futurism, I put the setting in space. Futurism is defined by the futuristic ideas of its painters and having things not seen before. I also put the American flag on the moon to signify one of the most futuristic events in our country's history. I also put a martian, which ties into my next theme, about the idea that there can be aliens out in space in our future.

For surrealism, I center my piece around Melvin the Martian. Melvin is the only martian on the moon, and he lives there by himself. For fun, he likes to jump from crater to crater and see just how far he can make it. The only time he has had visitors were the astronauts that went there, but Melvin is glad they left him a cool souveinier.

Lastly, I incorporated abstract expressionism. I sed paint and put it in a funky manner and tried to be creative as possible. Normally I would have just done one shade as the background, but abstract expressionism taught me how to be bold and art is about standing out!

Futurism

The phrase I chose for my piece was new electronics. When I was young, I always associated technology exclusively with electronics. I though our television, video game sets, and cars were all technology was. Later in life I figured out that technology is a broad term. I used pictures of an advanced bow and fishing pole that are also examples of technology, but I did not know at the time.

This video helped me with blending the type of colored pencils for my background and showed me good ways to blend it.

About me

Hi my name is Sean Casey and I am currently a Sports Media and Marketing major in my last semester at St. Bonaventure University. I am from Long Island, NY, and live in a town called Amityville, which is about 6 hours from Bonaventure. I live with my parents, my two younger twin brothers and sister. I also have a dog named Hunter who loves to run around in the backyard and go for walks.

Some of my hobbies include golfing, hanging out with friends, and going to the beach. My favorite sport to watch is basketball and my favorite team is the New York Knicks. I should also mention I am a Jets fan, but am sympathetic for the Bills loss. I am looking forward to taking and learning more about anthropology!
