Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia Watch Episode 7 To Catch a Changeling
How to catch a changeling for idiots.
âAll rightâ
âDo your worstâ
The Sword of Daylight. A weapon to kill trolls and cutting watermelon.
âWhat is this mockery?â Me seeing stupid shit.
âYou want to take it for a spin?â
*Cries in Troll*
Yeah, no one will notice.
âRidiculous garmentâ Agree.
âSorry. Draal was training Jimâ
âDraal?â âTraining?â
âYeah, he sorta made a home in my basement to look out for the placeâ
âOf course. When a troll is defeated in combat, itâs completely natural for them to take refuge in the victorâs domicileâ So, this happened before?
And itâs gone.
âIt was, eh... It was out of focus, and i did forget to turn on the flashâ Once again, i went back.
And the flash was on.
Have some Jim is done with this bushigal face.
âIâve not left the Heartstone in a centuryâ This is what itâs like to be force to go somewhere, cause they say itâll be worth it. But itâs really not. Wow Vendel is becoming the most relatable character in this series.
âI hate conspiraciesâ
âThat is why i am dedicated to rooting them outâ If Trump hired Blinky to root out all the conspiracies of him Blinky will end up making them worse for Trump. #LetTrumphireBlinky
âIf itâs everyone, it must be a conspiracy!â I would say Donald Trump, but that would be insult to Blinky.
âLaterâ
âOh, no. Claireâ
âClaire? A changeling?â Changeling Claire au.
âNo. When i thought i was gonna die, i wrote Claire a letter, too, and told her everythingâ
âEverything?â
âEverythingâ And what is this âEverythingâ you speak of? What did you write?
âThere you are!â Mission: Avoid Claire. Mission Fail.
âYou didnât run into Miss. Janeth yet, did you?â
âIs she mad i couldnât make rehearsal yesterday?
âSomething kinda came upâ
âHeh hehâ Good of the episode to put flashbacks in for me, so i donât have to do it myself. Also Jim implies that last episode happened yesterday (Out of universe, yeah it did) But i thought about it and today would be Monday, and yesterday was Sunday. Jim and Draalâs fight happened on a school day meaning that it was Friday. Jim and Toby getting arrested and Jim making the letters were on a Thursday, and Jim and Toby finding out about Nomura was a Wednesday. And then the school trip to the museum was a Tuesday.
âSteve filled in. Thatâs what understudies are for, right?â
âUh, you havenât heard?
âSteve isnât the understudy anymore. You areâ
âSheâs tired of you never showing upâ
âSo she made Steve Romeo. And trust me, Steve isnât happy about it eitherâ
âAs i was saying, every algebraic equation requires balanceâ
âNot unlike, say, actors in an ensemble!â
âFor instanceâ
âEvery piece of this equation plays an important roleâ
âThat is, unless variable Xâ
âis a zeroâ
âX has no roleâ
âX doesnât show upâ
âX lets the equation downâ
âThen, the entire play-â
âI mean, equation- falls part!â
âIt becomes impossible!â
âMr. Lakeâ
âHow would you solve this mathematical problemâ
Yeah iâm at a lost.
âPromoting Steve to Romeo wasnât your idea. Plus, heâs been trying to leaveâ âTell me about it. After class he told me off. Steve told me off. Steve. Of all peopleâ
âAnd, honestly, iâd rather be on stage with youâ
Iâve seen that face before. Marinette made that face, too, when Adrien touched her shoulder at the end of The Evillustrator.
New meme template.
âSo, we find another changelingâ
âStop saying that so loudlyâ
âDo you mind?â
âWhateverâ Like i said, his name is Changeling.
âAilment or curse?â
âOi, numbskull! I;m supposed to answer it!â
âBut i already did answer itâ Wait are Rot and Gut like one troll sharing a body or no?
âYouâre gonna need a gaggletackâ
âUnfortunately, you see, weâre a bit short on those. Very hard to getâ
âBut i got a bag of them right hereâ
âWhat in the world? If youâll excuse us for one momentâ
âEy, what are you doing? Iâm trying to drive up the price over hereâ
âI thought we were trying to help these nice ladsâ Rot doesnât understand Capitalism. Good boy.
âGaggletack?â
âRare artifactâ
âExceedingly rare. An object of great mysteryâ
âItâs a horseshoeâ
âMade of pure ironâ
âWhy would you put such a precious thing on a horseâs foot?â Great, what other things are âRare artifactsâ to trolls?
âBeware. Changelings are swapped with their human counterparts at birth. So, it is likely these troll-pretenders have dwelt amongst you for decadesâ
âThey could be anyoneâ
âUsed car salesmenâ
âTax collectorsâ
âTelevision executivesâ
âDonald Trumpâ
âYes, especially Donald Trumpâ
Nope.
Nope.
âShall i hear more, or shall i speak-â
âSteve!â
âHey! Who did that? And can i leave the play now?â âNoâ
Another new meme template.
Nope, nope, and nope.
âYou, uh, try this out on Mr. Strickler?â
âCome on. You really think he is one?â
Yes.
So close.
âHere you go, Mr. Strickler. Hereâs your horseshoe backâ
âThank you, Miss. Nunez, but that belongs to Mr. Lakeâ
âOh. Well that would explain the flying horseshoesâ Wait âFlying horseshoesâ? You mean Claire noticed the horseshoe that hit Steve earlier?
âSo not going to askâ Jim should look on the bright side of this. Claire touched the gaggletack, that means sheâs not a changeling, and that the real reason she invited him to her house was not to secretly kill him. Oh wait. Thatâs not till later.
âClaireâ âStill hereâ When people forget youâre here too. Trust me, i know that feeling.
âYouâre still coming home with me, right?â
âOh, right!â
âClaire and i are gonna go too her house... for math stuffâ
Toby is surprised by how that escalated quickly. And itâs not even the second half of season 1 yet.
Series creator, director of The Shape of Water, and the man that said âMonster Fucker Rightsâ Guillermo Del Toro. Voicing a dentist.
âFor the glory of Merlinâ
âDaylight is mine to make babies ogleâ
âHe really likes youâ Jim would be a great dad. Wink wink Claire. Wink wink.
âWonder what heâs thinking about right nowâ âNo idea whatâs going through my brothers mind right nowâ âIâm going to get kidnapped next episode and you will never see me again for a long time. Goo gooâ
âWow, this novocaine you numbed my mouth with is really strongâ
âI canât even feel my handsâ
âThatâs because i didnât inject you with novocaine, dearâ
âI hit you up with a potent paralyzerâ
âWhy would you do that?â
âWell, itâs not everyday someone comes in with a gaggletackâ The moment i saw this.
âWhy donât i take that, sweetie? Itâs not very hygienicâ I knew she was a changeling.
âSee, the equation only contains powers of X that are non-negative integersâ
âDoes that makes senseâ
âIs it supposed to?â
âNah. Thatâs why itâs called algebraâ Algebra never makes sense. It makes Kingdom Hearts make sense. #ReplacealgebrawithKingdomHearts
âI realized youâve got a lot more going on than people thinkâ
âI doâ
âI do?â You may now kiss the bride. Okay guys, Jim and Claire are married.
âYou canât just write a letter like this and not expect a conversation. If you had written something like âIâve most likely been slaughtered by a trollâ I wouldâve said: Understandable, have a nice dayâ âWait, really?â âNo! You are lucky, youâre cute and everythingâ âI... Uh... Itâs... Wait what?â âNothingâ
âYou have to battle monsters?â
âSaving the world in which we know? What monsters are you battling? Are they fuckable?â âWell- Wait what?â âUh... What monsters are you battling?â
Have some Claire being done with her (Not yet, almost, but not really, not for another season) boyfriendâs bushigal.
âI mean, we all have stuff weâve got to go throughâ
âBut are you in some kind of trouble?â
âI... Yeah! Metaphoricâ
âI was...â
âIn an exploring stageâ
âNot successfulâ Let it be known that Claire thinks Jim has depression, if not suicidal tendencies. And i did not get this from the wiki or TvTropes.
âThereâs some sentimental stuff at the end which i thought was... kinda sweetâ Umm. Can we read the full letter? I want to know what he said.
âReally?â
âIf you ever need someone to talk to about âthe monstersâ you can talk to meâ
âIt can be our secretâ Yeah. There are going to be a lot of secrets you two will be sharing. Also, you two couldâve kissed here as well. But whatever you tried i guess.
âHalt, changeling!â
âOr else my giant friend will tear you limb from limb!â
âMaybe laterâ These things always happens.
âOh, it burns!â
âOh, itâs just a paintingâ Paintings donât kill trolls confirm.
Huh. After an entire episode of using it on everyone, and making me think it didnât work, it actually does work.
âWhatâs that?â âLaughing gasâ
*Laughs in Troll*
âLaughs in Troll*
âHello? Wait how did you get my number?â
âHey! Whatâs up, Nunez?â
âHey Colbyâ
âSomeone named Woby?â Claire canât remember Tobyâs name.
âFighting monsters again?â
âWho are you, Jim Lakeâ Claire is getting sus.
Imagine walking into this.
âPerish, you worm!â âWait, before you kill me, i have something to ask. You know Nomura, right?â âYesâ âWell she has a history with a troll named Draal. Do you know what their history is?â âNo, this is the first time iâm hearing about itâ âOh, okay. Thank you. You can die nowâ âYouâre welcome. Wait what?â
âDo you have some magic artifact that can clean this mess?â
âYes. I believe itâs called a Tobiasâ Translation: âClean it yourselfâ
âIt appears Nomura has gotten her wayâ
âAnother changeling has been chosenâ
âAnd look who it isâ âEnrich? Enquran? Enquin?â âOh, for the love of. It says Enrique!â âOh. Whoâs that?â âClaire Nunezâs little brother!â âWhich one is Claire again?â âThe one you havenât met!â âWell no wonder i donât know who that is. I never met themâ
Anyone is a changeling. Maybe iâm a changeling.
So whoâs the worst babysitter? Jim or Marinette?

Gun Robot Anthology
In-universe media has always been fascinating to me. Mentions of fictional movies, franchises, bands that only exist in a movie, show, video game, web comic, etc were always a super cool touch of local color that helped make a setting or itâs pop culture more believable. Bonus points if it doesnât effect a plot or character. The example I want to talk about today is the Gun Robot franchise from Tales of Arcadia (Trollhunters, 3 Below and Wizards).Â
We know in canon that thereâs seven movies and began in the eighties, and the Sally Go-Back doll is from that franchise (and she even has a theme song!), but not much else. Cause it doesnât effect the plot. So letâs have some fun with the headcanons on the franchise and what everyone in-verse thinks about it. Today, I wanted to talk about the impact rather than what the movies were about.
Gun Robot (1985)
The first Gun Robot movie was made in the veins of Ghost Busters, to be a silly science fiction movie with good action scenes and goofy characters. Reviews were mixed as many felt the humor and action didnât mix. It became a cult classic for some, and spawn a few toys and a five episode cartoon series (which was canceled due to bad ratings. This cartoon isnât fondly remembered by fans).
Gun Robot 2 (1987)
There was genuine fear of this movie falling into the sequel curse, but everyone was proven wrong. Gun Robot 2 is considered a masterpiece, not only being better than the first Gun Robot movie but being an overall great, fun, action packed movie with everything everyone could ask for. It had a highly successful toy line and spawned not one but TWO spin off Saturday morning cartoons (one gritty action series, the other a silly slapstick show for little kids, both are great)! Everyone in unanimous in saying Gun Robot 2 was the pinnacle of the series.
Gun Robot 3: Blazing! (1990)
Critics were surprised that the third movie was just as good as the second. There was more wiggle room for the plot to get darker and introduce more characters. One of them being Sally Go-Back. Sadly, the new toyline didnât do so well this time around, so movie production staff were willing to write the movie off as a flop. Which is wasnât, the third movie was just as beloved by audiences as the second one.
Gun Robot: Escape Ironclad Fortress (Gun Robot 4) (1993)
Unfortunately, this movie went straight to video, so production value had dropped as well as many of the original ideas that went into it. So, producers decided to follow the canon of the gritty Gun Robot 2 cartoon and included Sally Go-Back into it. It sold VERY WELL on video, and fans were willing to make this their new canon for the franchise. There was no toy line for this one, but the sales helped spawn a comic book franchise as well as a Sally Go-Back cartoon that went on for four seasons.
Sally Go-Back To Space! (Gun Robot 5) (1997)
This was announced as purely a spin off movie for Sally Go-Back to star in, but audiences were disappointed that Gun Robot stole her spotlight. Fans angrily called the movie âGun Robot 5âł and hate it a lot. Itâs a mortal sin to call the film by itâs actual title, you MUST call it Gun Robot 5 or risk forever being branded a fan of the film. To be fair, the movie itself is terrible and broke even at the box office. There were lots of toys made that sold decently, one of the main ones being the Sally doll that Toby has.
Gun Robot (Gun Robot 6) (2016)
After the flop of âGun Robot 5âł, no one in Hollywood wanted to touch the franchise. But itâs remake season, baby, and the only thing that makes money anymore is existing IPs! The sixth movie was made with love, and went back to the showâs goofy roots and was able to experiment with wilder ideas with brand new CGI technology. You either love it or you hate it, since many older fans attached themselves to the Gun Robot 4 movie or want it to be just as good as Gun Robot 2 (which is impossible at this point). And while toy lines donât exist anymore, a fun voice changing phone app, ring tones, downloadable GPS voice reader and movie maker app were very popular and well received by consumers. Gun Robot and Sally Go-Back are also free DLC characters for video game franchises like Soul Caliber and Team Fortress 2.
Gun Robot 7 (2017-2018?)
Itâs a dumpster fire. Everyone knows this movie is just really terrible and played out, but put in in theaters anyway. Itâs just expensive explosions, terrible acting and new female characters in barely any clothes showing off for the camera. Itâs just bad. Itâs really, really bad. Well what did you expect with Michael Bay in charge?
#trollhunters#tales of arcadia#3 Below#Gun Robot#headcanons#someone help me think of plots to these!

Action/Adventure Streaming Cartoons!
Hey, so Voltron: Legendary Defender recently ended. Want to watch some more animated shows in the similar genre of action and adventure?Â
The following is a recommendation list of some you can try out. Unlike my last ârecommendation listâ, (now renamed) this is an actual selected list of shows I either recommend or think look intriguing. So, not as comprehensive as that, but much more personal.Â
For this list, Iâll be focusing specifically on streaming ORIGINALS, so no shows that aired on TV first. Also, again, Iâm specifically focusing on action and adventure cartoons. So, no live action shows or cartoon comedies. There is one example that blurs the line at the end, but Iâll deal with that when we get there. ;)
Letâs begin after the cut!
Hilda (Netflix)
One of the surprise hits of this year (at least for me), Hilda is a series based on Luke Pearsonâs series of childrenâs books of the same name. It follows the adventures of Hilda, a brave little girl who goes on adventures and meets up with magical creatures before having to move to the city of Trolberg. This cartoon is delightful, charming, and has this sense of mystery and mystique without actually setting up a mystery. I had a blast watching it with my younger brother, who was a fan of the books.Â
Season one is out, with a season two scheduled for 2020. Â
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Netflix)
After Adora finds a mysterious sword in the forest, she begins to question the Horde, the empire sheâs been working for in her whole life, and joins the opposing Rebellion as the legendary warrior, She-Ra. I donât think I really need to recommend this one, considering how big it got. But yes, it lives up to the hype, some minor tonal issues aside. Itâs a creative re-imagining of a beloved 80s cartoon classic. Itâs very inclusive, has a great cast of likable and memorable characters, and hey, Iâm actually a fan of the art style.
Season two is coming out soon, with at least a total of 52 episodes planned.Â
Castlevania (Netflix)
Again, another cartoon I donât think I need to recommend. This is an adaptation of the video game series that follows the efforts of Trevor Belmont, Sypha, and Alucard as they try to stop Draculaâs murderous rampage. The plot isnât something too deep or exciting, but the gorgeous animation and art style, as well as the bloody, gory, fun, make it an exciting watch. Iâm actually going to go against the grain and say that the shorter runs are much better. I donât think this is the kind of show that should deal with a âfullâ season run, but thatâs just me.Â
Seasons one and two are out now, with a season three of 10 episodes on the way.Â
Tales of Arcadia: Trollhunters and 3Below (Netflix)
Executive produced by Guillermo del Toro, Trollhunters follows the adventures of Jim Lake Jr. and friends as they are embark in a journey to save mankind, as well as the magical community underneath their town, from evil forces. Trollhunters admittedly starts out as a bit of a cliche storm, but it finds its footing along the way into something more earnest. It probably has one of the best series finales Iâve seen this year. I havenât seen 3Below yet, but it looks fun. Iâll make some time for it. Â
Seasons one to three of Trollhunters are out now, season one of 3Below is out now, and another spin-off, Wizards, is scheduled for 2019.Â
The Dragon Prince (Netflix)
From Aaron Ehasz and Giancarlo Volpe, this series follows Callum, his brother Ezran, and elf assassin Rayla as they protect the egg of the Dragon Prince and try to bring peace between the humans, elves, and dragons. The animation is not everyoneâs cup of tea, but it wasnât an issue with me. The art style and designs are gorgeous and the characters are pretty likable. It does hit some of the tone issues She-Ra does, but thatâs an area I think the show may improve on as we get deeper into the story and conflict.Â
Season one is out now, with season two arriving some time in 2019.Â
Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters (Netflix)
Three teenagers develop superpowers after accidentally becoming exposed to experimental chemicals. The CEO of Rook Unlimited takes them on as corporated-sponsored superheroes as they fight a conspiracy in their futuristic city. Are you feeling nostalgic for 2000s teen hero cartoons? This show is pretty much a throwback to that. Some of the strengths in this show include the likable protagonists, some creative fight scenes, the occasional plot twist, the best plot pacing Iâve seen in a Netflix series, and the amount of effort put into the world building for what essentially started out as a novelty toy from the 70s. It also assembles one of my favorite voice casts out there, including my favorite of Steven Yeunâs voice roles.Â
Seasons one and two are out now, with the interactive special, The Breakout, taking place in-between the seasons. I genuinely donât know if thereâs more episodes coming, but Iâd like a couple more seasons, at least.Â
All Hail King Julien: Exiled (Netflix)
This is a weird example because this is season five of what is a largely comedic series. In this special season, after season fourâs cliffhanger, King Julien loses his kingdom, and he and his friends go on their own separate quests to put things back to normal. The season takes on a different genre than usual and is more of a big, epic adventure that parodies other adventures like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and The Chronicles of Narnia. Itâs ambitious and VERY bizarre towards the end, but itâs a fun ride.Â
This season is out now, while the main series it comes from has five seasons out as well. This season takes place between seasons four and six.Â
Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny (Amazon Prime)
A continuation from the film series, Po must teach four young pandas to harness their newfound powers to fight an evil, ancient master. If youâre a fan of the series, itâs worth checking out. The CGI is pretty good considering itâs for a TV series, the fights are decent, and the kids are actually pretty likable. The show does a good job keeping the tone of the movies, Plus, you get to hear Steve Blum ham it up as the main villain. Thatâs always fun.Â
Season one is out now, with a season two heavily hinted to be on the way.Â
Kulipari (Netflix)
A passion project from NFL player Trevor Pryce and based on his novels, itâs the tale of Darel, a young frog who sets out to rescue his village from an army of warmongering scorpions by recruiting back his idols, the legendary warriors known as the Kulipari. Yeah, the animation is...not great and the pacing and dialogue falter a bit, but I love the art and designs, how much it's inspired by Aboriginal culture, and just the grand ambition of it all. Also, another show that has a pretty great voice cast.Â
Seasons one (Army of Frogs) and two (Dream Walker) are out now, with season three a strong possibility. Thereâs also a comic mini-series (Heritage) and an upcoming graphic novel (Warflower) that take place between the seasons.Â
Niko and the Sword of Light (Amazon Prime)
Niko is a young warrior that is accidentally awakened too early. Despite their young age, he and Princess Lyra must defeat the sorcerer Nar Est and save the kingdom from the darkness that infects it. This Emmy-winning series skews a bit younger, but itâs still pretty entertaining. Niko is endearing as a brave, bold warrior of sorts in the body of a young boy. The art style and Titmouseâs animation look great, and once again, weâve got Steve Blum as the main villain.Â
Season one is out now, with season two coming in VERY soon. There is a one-shot comic based on the show.Â
The Hollow (Netflix)
This is a show I havenât seen myself, but the little Iâve seen and heard of intrigues me. The show is about three teenagers who wake up inside a shack in the middle of the forest, with no memories of how they got there or of each other. They work together to dig deeper into the mystery and escape their predicament. The premise sounds pretty interesting and I love the art style by Robert Valley.Â
Season one is out now, with season two on the way for an unknown release date.Â
Legend Quest (Netflix)
Based on the Mexican animated movies Las Leyendas, this series features Leo, a teenage boy who can communicate with ghosts, and works together with ghosts and other allies to uncover supernatural mysteries and stop the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl from destroying the world in a fit of rage. These past few years have seen Mexican-produced animation become more prominent, and Iâm personally happy about that. The show itself is pretty amusing, especially once you get past the first episode that canât decide if the show is reboot or a continuation from the movies. The myth arc takes place after that, and things gets more interesting from there.Â
Season one is out now, with season two confirmed for an unknown release date. US Netflix USED to have the Las Leyendas movies itâs based from, but they donât anymore, which is disappointing. They werenât great, but they had a unique charm to them. They deal more with Mexican mythology, as opposed to the showâs globetrotting approach.Â
Young Justice: Outsiders (DC Universe)
Yeah, this is one show that blurs the line. This is the third season of Young Justice, produced and available exclusively for streaming (at this time). However, the previous two seasons were made for cable before Cartoon Network cancelled it (and all action cartoons at the time). This show deals with the sidekicks and students of DC comicsâs most famous superheroes, who decide to form their own group and surpass the expectations set by their mentors. This show has the perfect combination of great art, animation, plot, and writing. It manages to be serious without being depressing and is essentially a massive love letter to the DC Comics Universe as a whole.Â
Seasons one and two, as well as the tie-in comic, are available now, with Outsiders coming out next month (as of writing). There is also a prequel one-shot comic to Outsiders coming out next month to DC Universe as well.Â

New Post has been published on Harold Gross: The 5a.m. Critic
New Post has been published on http://literaryends.com/hgblog/fall-tv-2017-new-stuff/
Fall TV 2017: The New Stuff
OK, I canât (and donât want to) watch everything. But here are my initial impressions of the new crop of stuff after the first episode (or so). Iâll likely post what survived my schedule later this fall.
In no particular order:
The Orville I expected to really dislike this show, but it continues to surprise me. For all its weakness (usually around its broad humor moments), it is trying to ride the line of satire and homage and doing it well. In many ways it is more Star Trek than the latest Trek offering, which makes the timing of this drama especially interesting in contrast to Star Trek: Discovery.
Star Trek: Discovery The franchise had a middling opening on the script and acting front, but no worse than Next Generationâs launch. Itâs easy to forget just how bad the first season of TNG was, but it was really pretty bad. It survived due the vacuum of similar shows and went on to become something rather good.
Discovery is burdened by a future we know, so it really will be the characters that sell this, not the plots, per se. So far, the characters arenât particularly compelling..so much so that even the first two hours didnât elicit from me a gasp. And the technology and creature anachronisms are frustrating.
You can see the Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, American Gods) influence on the bones of this show, but his exit and subsequent rework by Paramount is leaving it in an uncomfortable place. The energy is odd and the sensibility feels at war with itself. It may find its feet over the season, but I canât say the pilot filled me with curiosity to come back for more the way The Orville did. And by the end of the third episode I was left wondering if they were trying to remake themselves in the image of Babylon 5 (even more so than DS9 did).
There is a big universe for Discovery to play with, though it feels like a lot more of the same. That can be good and bad. TNG and DS9 both expanded the Star Trek universe in different ways to differing success with the same underlying issue. But is it worth a separate subscription fee to see every week? Right now, Iâm thinking not, though if it were on free broadcast Iâd probably give it more time. We shall see how it develops.
Good Doctor Weak start but with some stuff to build on. Unless the writing picks up, however, the story alone isnât enough to hold it together or keep me coming back. Just too many medical gaffs and overwrought moments. It was good to see Antonia Thomas (Lovesick/Scrotal Recall) in a larger production to get her broader exposure. And, writing issues aside, while Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel) has created an interesting character in the lead, Graham Verchere as his younger self just isnât up to the task which is weakening the story.
Young Sheldon Surprisingly engaging for a spin-off tale. Keeping the Sheldon we know as a bridge definitely helps, but the solid relationships and struggles of the family are also well done. While the young Sheldon is good, Raegan Revord as his twin sister and Zoe Perry (No Pay, Nudity), as his mother are the real stars of this sitcom so far.
Me, Myself, & I Had to see this for the cast and the conceit. As it turns out, it was better than I anticipated, though not brilliant. The 30 minute format is very tight for 3 characters across time every week. Very frenetic to follow. The potential is there. It is up to the writers to make it work. So far, they are not impressing me.
Will & Grace Seriously it is like there wasnât a 10 year gap, which is bloody impressive. From the opening moments through to the end, the show still has its original, ephemeral magic. You either love or hate, but you canât fault it for maintaining the magic.
Inhumans An incredibly weak launch to a show that had huge potential and one of the longest set-ups (via the Marvel movies and Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D) I can ever recall. Even the solid talent, like Iwan Rheon (Residue, Game of Thrones) and Ken Leung (Lost, Star Wars: Force Awakens) couldnât overcome an obvious, plodding, and ill conceived story. The world is incompletely thought through, the rules nebulous at best, and with a depth measured in millimeters. While I will give it another episode or so to see if it finds its feet, after the end of the double-episode launch, I was gnashing my teeth at the âsurpriseâ ending. If it is emblematic of the kind of scripts, and it appears it is, that are to come, it isnât going to keep me in attendance. And I thought Iron Fist was going to be the nadir with the hope that it would serve as the TV divisionâs Iron Man 2; I wish Iâd been right.
The Gifted Another incredibly weak start for an action/adventure in a crowded and over-worked field. Iâll give anything with Amy Acker (Much Ado About Nothing) a shot, but this only gets one more before a decision is made. Just too serious and too much of the same, even if it is spawned from one of my more favorite branches of the X-Men universe.
10 Days in the Valley While intense, this is a slow burn of a train wreck and tragedy. It is good to have Kyra Sedgwick () back on screen, but not sure Iâm looking for this kind of a character and story at this time. I do have some police procedural frustrations with the show, but I could get over them. Really the issue is timing.
9JKL Great concept and some talent in the cast, including Linda Lavin, David Walton, and Liza Lapira. But the writing and directing are just awful. This one died on my list in the first episode. I didnât even see any hope for it.
Kevin (Probably) Saves the World I have to admit this one pulled it out at the very end for meâŚat least enough to give it a shot. It has that Joan of Arcadia feel to it, amusingly given Jason Ritterâs (Carrie Pilby) presence. It could quickly get tiresome, but they avoided some initial pitfalls. And I have to admit I enjoyed the heavy Amy Adams/Arrival vibe they gave the first episode. Still, it isnât like we havenât seen this story in the past (usually as horror) and their rules are squishy at bestâŚeither he is the only one or the other 35 meteorites anointed the rest of the gang and the rest is just for comedy. Will give it another round to see where it goes, but it will need to step up its game to keep me.
Ghosted So this is The Orville of X-Files. It was just good enough in its launch to get another shot, but it only made it the first 15 minutes of the second. It just isnât written well enough nor are the main characters all that engaging for me. I imagine it will find an audience out there, but it may not be enough to survive.
Wisdom of the Crowd Probably the most attuned to the sense of the day and with a great conceit. Admittedly, it is a bit forced and it dances around the law quite a bit. But for all its weaknesses in credibility, it is terrifyingly willing to tackle some real social issues and technology. In addition to Jeremy Piven (Mr Selfridge) we also get Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones) to help drive it forward and both have some good chops to do so.
