The more extensive and clearer 4K video is available on the Esquire YouTube channel!
Along with that, Taehyung shared the reels from Esquire directly on his stories, provoking that in only some hours the 3 episodes surpassed 10M views!

Anticipation for KTH 1 keeps growing!
K-Media reports that the anticipation from worldwide fans for V’s solo album and debut is growing, showcasing his enhanced skills with a distinctive blend of classical and lyrical influences, his unmatched baritone voice, and a wide range of musical styles.
Also, about the music itself that we can expect from his album, it was said that "It's different from BTS's music, it's hotter than the heat of summer.”

Taehyung here, there and everywhere
Eric Nam on Vogue Singapore

Eric and Taehyung have been friends since 2016. In this picture you can see Eric Nam, Tae and Honne.
Also, in a podcast from 2019, Eric shared an anecdote about an occasion when Tae visited his home and requested Eric to cook for him. Consequently, he prepared pasta.

Kim Youngdae, a popular music critic, on KTH 1
The music critic revealed that he listened to a few tracks from Taehyung's solo album 2 months ago.
He expressed, “I believe you'll be pleasantly taken aback! It appears to be an exciting revelation from the vocalist known as V. While there are recognizable aspects of V's style, I must say, 'Ah.. you'll be amazed by the way it's presented.' Firstly, the music itself is exceptional. V's enchanting voice retains its charm. In BTS songs, there's a specific manner of interpretation, but in this album, it's refreshingly unrestrained and utterly natural. Now, here's the real surprise – this album stands out for a particular reason; it's not a collaboration.”

Jeff Benjamin, Kpop Columnist at Billboard, posted about Taehyung’s Cartier ambassadorship as well as the anticipation of Taehyung’s upcoming solo album!
On his Twitter and Instragram, the columnist said about Taehyung
“V of BTS has been named the latest global brand ambassador for Cartier and face of the French luxury jeweler's new Panthère de Cartier campaign. The bold first shot of the campaign has been revealed, leading to reports that the Cartier website crashed and the $26,700 necklace that V models made of made of white gold, diamonds, onyx and emeralds has completely sold out
• ’V is a dancer, musician and art lover who has a solid personality and sense of making choices driven by his own creativity, and with only his own style and elegance. When it came to embodying the magnetism and aura of the panther, our choice naturally fell on V. He has the look and strength of character...a personality whose choices are guided by creativity as a dancer, musician or art lover, with this style and this elegance that belong only to him’ -Arnaud Carrez, Cartier International Senior VP & Chief Marketing Officer
• Previously, V had teamed up with Cartier for a 2022 cover of Vogue Korea in (one of my favorite shoots) with a spread that was simple yet sophisticated, youthful but timeless.
• This all comes as anticipation is higher than ever for V's solo album as the final bts member to release his own project under the label. Shouldn't be much longer now... but in the meantime, excited to see V add yet another luxury brand to his growing influence and arsenal. Congratulations!”

Appearing on JK’s “Seven” stage and it became a trend
V visited the SBS Inkigayo set on July 30th. On this day, when Jungkook appeared on Inkigayo to perform his solo digital single 'Seven', V made a surprise appearance on stage and danced together for a few seconds. However, this appearance was not broadcast on the main broadcast.
What's funny and curious about all this is that after appearing for only a few secs and off air, V became the number 1 trending topic on the Google searches for Inkigayo!

Daegu Metropolitan City hosted the “2023 Daegu International University Student Camp” from July 23 to July 28 where they included a BTS V mural in the schedule
This is the 17th year of the Daegu Government's program to promote international exchanges between overseas and local college students and foster pro-Daegu personnel from abroad.
Many young foreigners from the Asia-Pacific cities made memories by taking pictures in front of Taehyung's mural street.

The Ledge #424: Scott's Faves Vol. 3 - College Rock
In this weird time we're currently living it's natural to take a nostalgic look back at some old faves. That's exactly what I set out to do with this week's episode of The Ledge. A few weeks ago I started a series of shows dedicated to my favorite songs of all time, and I decided this was the perfect week to take a look at some of my highlights from my old college radio days in the 80's.
As you may expect, there's a combination of the famous and not so famous. Bands that hit the top of the charts, and others that were unknown outside of their little area (or the network of college stations). Included are many tunes that rank up against anything that has come out in the 70 year history of rock and roll.
Some may be surprised to note the lack of Replacements, Husker Du, and the Suburbs (among others). That's because a future "Scott's Favorites" episode will be devoted to nothing but music from Minneapolis (and other upper Midwest locations)!
After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy! These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. You can find this show at almost any podcast site, including iTunes and Stitcher...or

#1 Casual Interactions: First Interactions
LISTEN TO THE PODCAST HERE: iTunes, Spotify, YouTube
John ‘Hambone’ McGuire, Shaun Simon and Frank Iero decided to make this podcast as an excuse to hang out besides having breakfast together.
Every episode will have a certain topic. This podcast is about old memories and there probably be another one about them in the future.
Childhood:
Frank wanted to be an alter boy/a boy scout, but as he had to go to his dad’s on the weekends he couldn’t do that. The upside is that he got to learn drums.
In 8th grade during the practice graduation, which took place in church, he threw some stink bombs while his friends told him not to. “and then they wouldn’t let me graduate”.
Because of what he did he had to go to a retreat and got in trouble there as well because he stole some wine.
Shaun was an alter boy but didn’t have any story as he “just did the shit and left”.
How they met:
They all grew up in different parts of town, Frank in Belleville, John in Clifton and Shaun on the other side of Clifton, 4 towns away from John.
Frank met Shaun first, in freshman year orientation.
Shaun was friends with a kid named Eugene who knew a friend of Frank’s called Costa.
Shaun, Eugene, and Costa skated together. Frank tried to skate but broke both ankles.
Shaun accused Costa of stealing cheese, which prompted Frank to admit “I definitely stole a lot of things with him, none of which I believe were cheese, but it’s possible.”
Shaun left that school after freshman year.
John is 2 years older than Frank, so he didn’t know about him until 1995 when they met thanks to Bruno, a friend of Shaun’s.
Frank called himself a “drama boy” during the podcast, John said “he’d have let everyone know he was an alter boy”
John, Bruno and Frank played in bands together in highschool. One night Bruno brought Shaun along and they’ve been friends and bandmates ever since.
The podcast is recorded in Frank’s basement.
They’ve been friends for 20 years.
Pencey Prep:
They played in different bands for a while, then they created Pencey Prep. They needed a keyboard player but mostly they wanted to hang out more with Shaun, so they asked him to join the band.
During early Pencey Prep shows Shaun used to smoke on stage during the verses of the songs.
Shaun didn’t even face the crowd while playing.
The time of I Am A Graveyard was longer than Pencey Prep, even though they just had 4-5 songs.
Pencey Prep went on a “ill-fated tour across America, restructured the band, did I Am A Graveyard and after Tim left the band met its end”. After that Frank joined My Chem.
John can’t listen to the Pencey Prep record because he finds it a bit cringey, as even though they were a great band they were a highschool band and it was harder to get better since there was no internet and the only way to learn new things was to get lessons. He does like the album as it let him knew his friends. He feels gratitude for the record, he just can’t listen to it.
Frank: “I wouldn’t change anything because everything ended up the way it did, but if i could Doc Brown it and just tweak little things... there’s a lot that i would tweak.”
Being a teenager now is very different from being a teenager when they were. They agree that they wouldn’t survive it today. Frank says that he “would be naked on the internet somewhere, doing some dumb shit”.
Social Media:
Frank: “Facebook is an animal I can’t understand, so I decided not to use it” John: “It’s all racist”
Frank talks about people who send him pictures and ask him explanations, for example about his hair. He says he always replies by making them to notice how his questionable looks are now copied by a lot of people.
Frank’s dreadlocks:
Frank’s dreadlocks were cut by Pencey Prep and thrown out of a hotel room in Chicago.
Frank: “Those are baaad for the environment.. that’s why Chicago is the way it is”
He got dreadlocks out of a joke. They were in the van talking about the music that Tim liked (”nu metal and weird shit”) and he started tying knots in his hair and put crazy glue in it “and then it got real nasty”.
Van stories:
The band threw John’s Thin Lizzy’s cds tape out of the van window, but they kept the case. Shaun: “Why did we decide that was a good idea?” John: “How many times did we listen to Jailbreak on the same tour?” Frank: “The boys are not back in town, we have to stop” John: “It was the first intervention of many”.
In early My Chem tours they had to bring billfolds of CDs just to pass the time, a 100 pounds of CDs that would get scratched and destroyed.
Pencey Prep had a yellow schoolbus van that John bought for 800 dollars. It was a terrible van but they needed it to go on tour. Because of the van they almost missed the first date of tour and it went downhill from there.
The only reason they decided to tour was because they managed to book a show at the First Avenue & 7th St Entry venue. They could fill up only 3/4 of the tank, otherwise it would smell like gasoline. That made them nervous about flicking cigarettes out of the window but it didn’t stop them from smoking. 2 hours into a 3 hour drive, the van gave up. Frank: “disemboweled on the highway” John: “anti-freeze everywhere”
Luckily there was a Ford Dealership 1000 feet from they were, so they asked them to tow them there and it cost them $666.34 to repair the van, paid by John’s dad. They never made it to the gig. And they never paid John’s dad back either.
Neil booked the tour, e-mail was new, no fast internet.
The tour was in 1999.
The last show of the tour was in Colombus, Ohio and the guy of the venue stiffed them for money, so they went home and had to listen to the same CD for 10 and a half hours as it was stuck in the CD player.
The CD was “Stay What You Are” by Saves the Day.
Post Pencey Prep:
After Neil left they became I Am A Graveyard.
After Frank joined My Chem, Shaun and John joined/created (?) the band The Hostage, which lasted 6-7 months and played 3 great shows. They didn’t last because one of the guys was a dick. (”Not Dan, not Paul, the other one.”)
Frank asked them to open for My Chem but Dan said no because he had to work to pay his car lease.
They start talking about the sacrifices you need to make if you want to be a musician, but it’s the same about every job. You have to commit.
John had to get a job in his 30s. If he told us what job he had got he would have to kill us. He got some money and went back to what he loved.
Where to find Frank, Shaun and John:
J: “Frank, where can people find you?” F: “.. New Jersey” J: “Don’t give them your address!”
Frank:

Shaun:

He announced his new comic book Wizard Beach, which will come out in December.

211: How to Stay Relevant in Our Ever-Changing World & Embrace Each Year More than the Last
~The Simple Sophisticate, episode #211
~Subscribe to The Simple Sophisticate: iTunes | Stitcher | iHeartRadio | YouTube
In America we have the story that ... your sex drive evaporates. ... Nobody wants to sleep with you, but you don't want to sleep with them either. ... And it turns out that that is really much more of a cultural story than a biological story, and ... people's behavior responds to this cultural story. ...
In France there's a slightly different narrative. ... Women in their 50s and 60s in France are much more sexually active than women in America are. So I don't think you can ... snap your fingers and switch cultural narratives. But just knowing that it's not biologically inevitable I think gives you some power over it." —Pamela Druckerman, author of the new book There Are No Grown-Ups: A Midlife Coming-of-Age Story (read the entire NPR interview here)
Over the past four or five years I have taken notice of how women step into each year of their life after forty. Whether women who are in my inner circle or women in the media spotlight, I listen to how they speak about their physical capabilities, their physical beauty, their curiosities, their chapters in life, the roles and careers they wish to stay or become a part of. As someone who is 39 and has truly let my age just be a number, not centering my identity around my age as it is one detail I cannot control (sometimes I forget my age, does that happen to anyone else?), I am intrigued in the shift in what is expected of women by women - and thus society -  as they age through the decades. Because our message to each other has power, and that message in large part tells the world what will be accepted or ignored. As someone bringing up the tail-end of Generation X and partially straddling into the Millennial Generation, I certainly have seen a shift in the knowledge and thus attention to good health when it comes to fitness and well-being as opposed to my grandmother's generation. A tremendous shift in society in the late 20th century brought to our attention what our bodies and minds are truly capable of so long as we care for them well. I think of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her whip-smart, savvy prowess on the Highest Court in the country at the age of 85. I think of Dame Helen Mirren who at the age of 72 continues to playfully immerse herself in her acting career and her life as she explores the world. I think of 52-year old Oscar winning actress Viola Davis and her determination and talent on the big screen and small screen, as well as her physical good health and Sandra Bullock as well as Cate Blanchett and Michelle Obama and Diane Keaton and and and and . . . the list goes on. Each one of these women marries knowledge with curiosity and applies it to their mental as well as physical health. Physical maladies can certainly befall us due to genetics, but there is far more health obstacles that are avoidable so long as we provide ourselves with the information and live in such a way to be preventative. Two situations happened over the past couple of years that found me responding in frustration internally, but saying nothing in the moment. The first was a situation with my own mother and my young pre-teen niece in which my mother said something about what was physically inevitable when you hit "her age". In actuality, what she shared was false, and I later did say something in private to my mom as I am someone who has heard such "untruths" from older women when I was young. I know now that what they shared was their ignorance regarding how the body grows and ages, but I didn't want my niece to have to navigate toward to the truth when the knowledge was readily available. The second situation is an ongoing one as I have a dear friend who refuses to say her age or acknowledge her birthday as her husband told me she is "sensitive about her age". While I respected this wish, I also want her to know how much I want to celebrate her because I think she is absolutely amazing, talented and uber intelligent. The truth is if we as women will let go of identifying ourselves with our age, then half of the world will stop seeing us through the narrow lens of assumption regarding what "should be" happening at a particular point. We all know that with different people, different things happen at different periods of our lives. Case in point, actress Rachel Weisz is pregnant at 48, yet press in the U.K. is fearful it may be nearly too late for Meghan Markle to conceive. Are you kidding me? What we consume or accept as a culture can either limit us or liberate us. What we allow to be accepted because we do not contradict it when we know it is utterly false will continue to be perpetuated. We can either speak up or act in such a way that demonstrates the falsehoods are indeed false. Each of us will choose what is most comfortable for us - speaking or acting, but I implore you to not shrink to fit inside the limiting box that society would have women at any age stay within. Part of the difficulty with staying relevant, man or woman, is staying apprised of the dynamic world we live in. With each year we are layering more information on top of what we already know and in so doing we become acutely aware of how much we still have to learn. It can become overwhelming. It happened this year as a teacher who began teaching at 22 and knew how to relate culturally with the students - the music, the films, the colloquialisms, each far simpler to grasp and understand because I was partially still in their bubble - that I acknowledged and took note that I could be considered two generations removed from my students. While I still understood some of the references made by students, there were cultural allusions that no more my students grasped (the 80s hit sitcom Cheers, for example). While some cult classics are returning and being devoured by teenagers thanks to Netflix and YouTube - FRIENDS, The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross on PBS, etc. - but after listening to different podcasts my students will bring my attention to or music my students will mention in class, I am reminded that we all live and will always live in a dynamic world. And the key is to understand how to remain involved, knowledgable and curious instead of quailing, shrinking or removing ourselves due to fear or confusion or exhaustion.
How to remain a part of the ever-changing world:
1. Build a social network of all ages
One of the benefits of teaching is that there is youth everywhere each and every year. While yes, it's kind of like Groundhog's Day (the film), the benefits far outweigh the negatives as I am reminded that learning is always available if we choose to seize the knowledge and therefore change is perpetually constant. Progress is always possible and staying the same is never a good idea if we wish to reach our full potential. And so why not build friendships, acquaintances, mentor or mentee relationships with individuals of all ages? When we do and do so with an open mind, our perspective is broaden, our understanding deepens and we come to appreciate where we've been, how far we've come or become even more excited about where we are heading.
2. Refrain from ageist comments (younger or older)
The quickest way to shut-down an opportunity to get to know someone is to make assumptions about what is expected at a certain age. When we do this, instead of seeing the individual and being patient enough to get to know the individual, we are telling them (consciously or unconsciously), who they truly are and who they are capable of becoming is not all that important to us. As well, when we make ageist comments we perpetuate limitations that we ourselves will eventually be subjected to. In other words, we have the power with the words we do or do not utter to change how society views anyone at any age.
3. Master your mind and cultivate a positive mindset
“When it comes to staying young, a mind-lift beats a face-lift any day.” ~Marty Buccella
Providence, St. Joseph Health shares, "Negativity saps vitality and creates stress, which affects your health and well-being." So literally, by being cynical, negative or close-minded, we are exacerbating the aging process and making ourselves physically older unnecessarily.
4. Let go of the word "should"
Whether speaking to others and expressing what you think they "should" be doing or the internal dialogue that runs through your head saying you "should" be doing something in your life at any given point, stop. Nobody wants to hear what they should be doing. Instead inspire others to do something with how you live your life or simply let them navigate their way in their own way.
5. Seek out diverse experiences that stretch you
Whether with the places you travel to, the food you eat, the books you read, the podcasts you listen to or the people you engage with in conversation, let your curiosity be fed. Often the reason individuals regress into what they've known and the "way it has always been" or "when I was younger" constructs and wish to stay there is because they are fearful of the unknown. What they know is comfortable, and we all somewhere along the continuum want comfort. However, too often, when we don't know about a particular culture, a particular way of life that becomes more prevalent in society due to news coverage or a change in economic structure, until we explore, prompts people to make limiting assumptions that shrink our world. The world is big, vast, amazing and from my experience here on the blog and in my own travels meeting people from around the world, the majority of us are seeking contentment, love and peace. This may sound over-simplified, but truly, our general goal is the same, it is a matter of having the courage to keep asking questions, keep making ourselves vulnerable and recognize that we do not have all the answers and respecting all people as they too are trying to figure it out.
How to enjoy each passing year more than the last:
1. Learn something new regularly
“For the unlearned, old age is winter; for the learned, it is the season of the harvest.”   ~Hasidic saying
I have seen the deterioration of one's mind in late age when a particular octogenarian who prided himself on having only read one book in his life gradually sees the quality of his life diminish. Knowledge is power in not only understanding how to live, but in keeping ourselves vibrant and able to engage with the world fully. Studies have recently been shared that regular cognitive challenges - problem-solving, learning a new skills, in other words brain exercises - are good for brain health. It is something we keep alive or by not giving it "homework" passively let wither away. Once we have the knowledge and understand how to continue to acquire it as we move through life, then we can apply it and see the benefits of the efforts we've made - thus the harvest. So keep planting seeds and continue to see your harvest become richer and richer with each passing year.
2. Choose to understand the world
Providing context as to why events happened, why people made the decisions they made and why people reacted as they did deepens not only our understanding of the world but also how to move and live successfully in it so as to live a life we are proud to share with the world as well as reflect upon.  Never settle for one person's version of events, explore, ask questions, pick up a biography of someone else who lived in that time, read a historical account from multiple perspectives and come to understand that the world isn't simple, events aren't a singular cause and effect, but more often a confluence of causes that create the outcome that after some time has passed becomes simplified into a singular soundbite. As well, come to understand the social sciences - psychology and sociology and how people interact with others, how our minds work, how our bodies work regarding hormones, endorphins, adrenaline, etc. Choosing to understand the full human experience paired with the events of the world that led us to where we as a world are today is empowering and can assist us as we figure out how we wish to move forward.
3. Contribute to the world
In another study, it demonstrated that we must live in such a way that goes beyond giving, or "feeling useful"; we must take action so as to do something that leaves the world better than when we found it. Taking action will be different for each of us, but just giving of our time to help the next generation isn't enough (it's a start). Sometimes taking action will not be comfortable for those around us. Sometimes it will not be comfortable to us as we will have to push ourselves to learn something new, shift our views and understanding about something we had become accustomed to but now we realize we were wrong, misled or misinformed. But when we find a purpose that fuels us, that we truly have a passion for, we will find the fuel to push forward. And in pushing forward, the example we share with the world will potentially alter how society comes to understand what is possible at any given age. 4. Let go of negative stereotypes and stop perpetuating them regardless of your age
“Age is no barrier. It’s a limitation you put on your mind.” ~Jackie Joyner-Kersee
A study conducted at Yale revealed that "older adults who held more positive age stereotypes lived 7.5 years longer than their peers who held negative age-related stereotypes". Not only should we shift away from negative age stereotypes we should stop burdening others with these beliefs as well. Whether it is our observation and commentary about strangers on the street, in the store or mere acquaintances, refrain from defaulting to ageist remarks (about those older or younger than you). When we assume, we limit what we are willing to explore as we get to know people, and I am confident none of us would want to be limited.
5. Revel in each year
“The trouble is, when a number—your age—becomes your identity, you’ve given away your power to choose your future.”  ~Richard J. Leider
Right now I am soaking up all that the remainder of my third decade on this glorious planet will share with me. As well, I am excited to enter into my fourth. When we choose to be present in our lives, we create memories that will always be with us. No we cannot go back and relive them literally, but we can in our memories and that is a gift we can take with us for any age we reach down the road. Each year has the opportunity to be your singular definition of what it is to be [pick a number]. And it is important to remember that that is your definition and yours alone. To place it on someone else and expect them to live the same as you is to limit what they may be curious about. On the flip side, embrace what you are curious about each year. Embrace what the universe has given to you in this particular year and drink it up like it was water in the desert. When you revel, you enliven your being and you share with the world your exuberance. That is how we shift age stereotypes.
6. Take the risk
Maybe you've had a dream in your mind for years, but you have never known anyone who took such a risk. At least not anyone in what you perceive to be your "situation". Let go of needed a model to follow. Let go of thinking the dream shall remain a dream and instead take the risk. Do the necessary homework and then give yourself permission to get so absolutely excited about living the life you have dreamed about. Yes, you can live that life. And that will enliven you like you never could have imagined. From time to time I will catch myself pushing back against progress when it finds me quite comfortable with where I am in my life (a state that is not always easy to attain for any one of us as we strive toward goals), and then I poke myself. It is at that moment that I remind myself that progress is good as it demonstrates to all of us that we are alive, the world is alive and has the capability of improving. Even when we think we are comfortable (as I have felt in those moments), we often are limiting what we understand to be possible in the quality of our lives. Often I do think part of the push back to progress is exhaustion (which is why it is imperative to get a regular night's sleep - I kid only slightly). Perhaps not physical, but emotional exhaustion as we have seen and experienced and worked for so much and we don't know if we have the energy to continue to strive, shift and improve like we have in the past. But that is when we need to seek out others who see the world and all of its potential as we do, and then we can find the energy we think has been lost. Thus another reason to build a social network of all ages. The world is greater with more diverse voices, lives and experiences. And with each year of our lives we deepen what we bring to the world so long as we continue to truly live each year we are given. ~SIMILAR POSTS FROM THE ARCHIVES YOU MIGHT ENJOY:

Outlander 3x04
Ok, so I finally watched it - late, because iTunes in Australia and children and work. It's all the things all the other people have said so I don't feel the need to rehash all the deep and meaningful stuff. But for interest's sake, here are my top ten takeaways: 1. Bear is a genius - my favourite part of the whole thing was the Dylan song at the end, I loved the way that tied all the transitions and cutaways together. I also loved what he did with the music during the sex scene. It sounded like a dirge, and to me it made that scene feel like the beginning of the end - which for Geneva, it was... And in a very 'taking the long view' way, it was for Jamie too, in the sense that that moment led to Willie, who eventually led to Jamie leaving and moving on to the next part of his life. Laoghaire. Which feels like a big fat end, really, in a lot of ways! He's damned lucky Claire came (comes) back! 2. Did they make it obvious enough that Jamie was going to bed with Geneva because she threatened his family? This was really watered down from the books, and very vague before he snuck in later that night. At that point he mentions threats to his family so that cleared it up a bit, but hmm. Dunno about that. 3. I really disliked the way they treated Claire's story in this episode, more so than the previous ones, even though this one focused more on her own story than 'life with Frank'. It was SO disjointed, it felt all over the place, and the narrative and cohesion really got lost. I didn't like the way they picked up where they left off after last season with barely any linkages to what had been shown in the previous three episodes. I feel like this could have been better treated by having the search run for the whole of the first half of the season, and showing the vignettes with Frank, Joe, Brianna as a child etc as flashbacks. Then it might have gelled better for me. Like, if I had watched the end of season 2 and gone straight to this episode I probably would have liked it better as far as Claire's story goes because at least it would have flowed. Although Joe would have been random - he was the only real connection to the earlier episodes from this season. And he has been sorely underused. 4. Fiona and the pearls - I can see why Claire would have given them to Mrs Graham in her grief, trying not to chase a ghost, trying to move on, afraid Frank would burn them, whatever. Her motivation, although unclear and imperfect, isn't what bothered me so much. It was more like - was that worth the 30-60 seconds of screentime? Maybe that time could have been used elsewhere to flesh out Claire's actual story more? Explain why she seems to give up so quickly and easily on the search - I know she's disheartened, and afraid, and has a life for herself in Boston, and has a child... But even though I KNOW this, I don't feel like the episode showed me. 5. I loved Hal and John interacting. So uncomfortable and squirmy and hopeful and disappointed and so. well. done. My little queer heart loved and hated it at the same time. Isobel was awesome too, but the face-slapping was a bit much. She redeemed herself though. 6. Jamie's hair. Just. What. I can't. 7. I'm not feeling Brianna and Roger. Brianna's random and abrupt kiss? Why is Roger so bumbling? I know it's supposed to be cute, and it is kinda, but in some ways he's acting like a teenager with a crush and he's way older than her, so shouldn't he be more mature? But I do like him pretty much everywhere else. And he's not bad with Brianna... and Brianna's not bad with him... But they're a bit meh. I'm just not feeling it. 8. That bit where they're sealing the marriage deal with Ellesmere right in front of Geneva like she's saleable goods. So horrible and uncool. Goddamn patriarchy. It made me really feel for Geneva and understand why she wanted her first time with Jamie. But why didn't she just say that to him? He might have gone for that without coercion - I think he'd understand wanting to grab what little independence, autonomy, and control over your own life that you can. Instead she went for blackmail and made it gross. Also: is 'Geneva' a realistic name for an upper class English gentlewoman in the 1700s? Also, also: imagine Claire was somehow at the estate during that scene. How much would she try to intervene? Smash the patriarchy! 9. Speaking of names: Dunsany is Dunsaney? Has any book reader ever been pronouncing it that way before this ep? Unrealistic pronunciation IMHO. I apparently have been mispronouncing Ellesmere as well (Ell-es-mere instead of Elles-mere), but that's an acceptable alternative, so I'm ok with that. But Dunsaney? 10. How is Geneva laughing and talking after being dropped in the mud like that? I would be wheezing and dying. That was not gentle. Perhaps called-for, but oof!

Day to Day Highlights of my 2017 SXSW Experience
Tumblr media
It’s been about 2 weeks and I am still recovering from South By Southwest! This year was BY FAR the most fun I have had at this festival. Because I missed last year’s SXSW, I decided I would attend every one of them until I graduated. This time I took part in 8 days of concerts, parties, and film screenings.
As always, I have to thank the company who gave me the opportunity to attend the music part of SXSW for free. This time it was Esurance, so HUGE SHOUTOUT to them for coming in clutch! You can find their booth at the Austin Convention Center and sign up for a Esurance Pass. Every day during South By, you can go to the Esurance booth and scan your pass for a chance to win an awesome prize! Previous prizes have been GoPros, Mac Books, PS4s, TVs, and other electronics. Next time, DON’T miss out on the cool perks Esurance has to offer!
DAY 1:
Nowadays, I spend more time watching videos on Youtube than watching TV. Therefore, I am very familiar with the Youtube community. AwesomenessTV was kind enough to invite me and some other fans to Toddrick Hall’s “Behind The Curtain” movie premiere. The movie is basically a documentary of Toddrick’s life and how he manages to create these spectacular videos. I had no idea how much effort it went into being an online content creator.
As we walked around 6th, one of my friends spotted Cole Spouse. When I approached him, I realized that KJ Apa, Archie from Riverdale, was with him as well. The funny thing was that KJ couldn’t believe that I knew who he was since most people would only ask Cole for a picture. They both were extremely nice and we had a pretty decent chat about who I liked on Riverdale and my thoughts about the show (by the way... they both said to root for Veronica and f*ck Betty lol). It’s nice to actually have conversations with the people I look up to and realized that they are just as human as I am. ~ Riverdale airs every Thursday at 9/8c on The CW ~
Tumblr media
DAY 2:
Before spring break, I saw on Twitter that Prison Break was coming back with a new season! I did some research to see if they were coming to SXSW and they were! Prison Break invited a couple of fans and I to see the first episode of Season 5 and for a Q&A with the cast members. Judging by the first episode, I can tell you that it is going to be a great season! I was left wanting to know more and I even started thinking on some theories for the future. Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Robert Knepper, and the screenwriters were a blast to hang out with! They were extremely down-to-earth and funny! ~ Prison Break returns April 4th on FOX ~
Oh I also ran into Bill Nye!! BILL BILL BILL! It was definitely one of the highlights of my week! According to the people who attended his movie screening, it is really worth watching!
Tumblr media
DAY 3:
I attended the SXSW trade show to witness some cool inventions that are being created and to network with innovative people! From VR to delicious food, I enjoyed every single part of it! The elevator pitches that I heard were really good and motivated me to keep building my brand. While I was at the trade show, I noticed that Matthew Espinosa, a former Viner, was also there! He was such a sweetheart that we bonded over some yummy stroopwafels.
Eventually, I went to see my friends’ band play at Scratchouse later that day! New Waves Concerts were the ones putting the showcase, so I couldn’t miss it! I was able to relax for a bit and listen to a lot of refreshing music from local artists here in Austin, TX. ~You can go check out my friends’ band Teqeela Mockingbirds on FB and Instagram!~
Tumblr media
DAY 4:
Concerts on concerts and more concerts! My friends and I started and ended the day with music! By noon, we were watching Lil Yachty perform at the Empire Control Room--courtesy of Mazda (Car company). Lil Yachty is extremely fun to watch live! He even pointed at me during his set haha!
At night, we went to SXSW Takeover Day 1 with Ugly God and other hip-hop performers. I discovered a lot of different rappers and now I listen to their songs all the time! “Gassed Up” by Nebu Kiniza has been stuck in my head ever since that day.
Tumblr media
DAY 5:
Thanks to Twix, I was able to get VIP for their SXSW week event at Bar 96. I had never been to this particular bar and I seriously think that I will be going more often; it has a great vibe. At the Twix house, I saw a new rapper called Kweku Collins. There’s something so unique about the way he performs, and I will sure keep an eye out for him! After that, I met Bridgit Mendler and we chatted for a bit. She has a new single called Can’t Bring This Down with rapper Pell which is now available everywhere!
Tumblr media
DAY 6:
The Woodie Awards is a must-go during SXSW! The great thing about the Woodies is that their event is 18+ and fans are able to see the biggest artists for free! I attended two years ago and the camera man remembered me haha! This time I saw Young M.A., Khalid, Desiigner, KYLE, D.R.A.M., Lil Yachty, and others!
One of my friends was asked to take pictures of The Cool Kids, so I was able to see them perform that night! My group of friends were the only young ones in that crowd haha! However, The Cool Kids do have great songs that are worth listening to! “Connect 4” has to be my favorite single from their new music!
Tumblr media
DAY 7:
I appreciate Vibes for giving me free tickets to Blackbear’s concert! I have been a big fan of him for the longest and being able to see him live for the first time was unreal! Blackbear is an incredible songwriter that manages to make all of his songs extremely relatable. For sure, this concert was the best one I attended that week! If you haven’t heard already, Blackbear is part of a band called Mansionz with Mike Posner and their first album is out now! You can find it on Soundcloud, iTunes & Spotify!
Tumblr media
DAY 8:
At this point, I WAS EXHAUSTED. I have no idea how people finished the whole SXSW festival. Anyways, the last performer I saw was Lil Uzi Vert and I am so happy that I did! He was very energetic and everyone was pumped during his set! I had no idea that I knew a lot of his songs haha!
youtube
by Matthew Hersh Films
And that’s basically my whole recap on SXSW.. I hope you enjoyed my concert stories and meeting celebrities. I really recommend attending South By Southwest if you live in Texas, it is truly worth it! You can find my previous post on tips and tricks when attending SXSW here.

Table of Contents Sharing is caring! Digitization has drastically transformed the world around us. It is sweeping businesses, organizations, and people off their feet. Take a look around you. You will barely find a person that is not on any social media platform. Be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube or any other channel, people are eager to put themselves out there and connect with each other. The same applies to businesses across the globe. With billions of people out there are on social media channels, brands are eager to reach out to them. They want to get noticed and stay in the user’s mind. That’s where digital marketing comes into play. As a customer, you can’t go without spotting a brand as you lurk around on the Internet. Meanwhile, the brands can’t go without engaging with the customer and getting noticed. The point is that it is a two-way process and as much as brands love to market their products, customers love to see them. Moreover, with relevant advertising on social media platforms, brands help customers find the right product, they’ve been looking for. Digital marketing is thus, a win-win or both customers and brands. It is a prospering field that combines with cutting edge technology to miraculously transform a business. Statistics suggest that 81 percent of the markets found that investment in digital marketing increased traffic in as little as six hours per week. So, if you’re interested in learning some amazing tricks that can help a brand grow digitally, you don’t need to worry. Neither do you have to refer to a lot of books nor attend lengthy lectures? Podcasts are in! Podcasts are one of the coolest things of the modern era. Those who are used to it know that it is an episodic series of audio files that a user can download on their smartphones and listen as and when they want. The word Podcast gains its creative name from two separate words ‘pod’ and ‘broadcasts’. Pod refers to iPods or other portable devices, giving the impression that you can listen to it anywhere you go. On the other hand, broadcasts are mostly inspired by the way radio mediums impart information to a mass audience. Therefore, podcasts can be assumed to be consumed in exactly the same manner. Generally, all podcasts are conversational ones, between a host and a guest speaker. They are similar to radio talk shows etc. Similarly, podcasts can also be monologues where a person shares their thoughts or expertise regarding a subject. Even though a lot of people have heard about them, very few know that podcasts can actually make you smarter. They are one of the most popular tools out there that are used for learning and promote personal growth. Podcasts are witnessing a surge in popularity all over the world. In the US alone more than 112 million people listen to some of the popular on-demand radio. But, they are not just limited to fun shows. With digital marketing becoming one of the best career tracks, podcasts are one of the best sources to get started. Whether you’re a beginner wanting to learn the basics of digital marketing, sharpening your concepts for an interview or a professional marketer looking forward to enhancing your knowledge in the field. Podcasts are for everyone! Looking for Podcasts But when you’re just starting to listen to podcasts, it’s important to know where to start looking. Once you know, listening to podcasts becomes easier than ever. It’s just like listening to your favorite tracks, the difference is the knowledge that you gain from it. Especially, with the change in trends these days, podcasts are becoming an instant hit among people. The best part is that you can listen to them on the go. Be it your computer, desktop, Android device, iPod, tablet, mp3 player or any other device. You can listen to podcasts anywhere anytime. For those familiar with modern media content forms, a podcast might seem like a TV show or web series, only it’s audio. Usually, audio is divided into different seasons that follow some time sequence or subtopics that consist of a list of episodes as individual content pieces. While some digital marketing podcasts are free, others can be simply availed at minimum costs. You can choose to download them to listen without an Internet connection or stream online as per your wish. Benefits of Listening to Podcasts Listening to podcasts can make you smarter and help you learn effortlessly. Here are some other effective ways it helps you- #1. You Learn More Listening to podcasts means you spend more time on learning. It might be quite difficult to catch up on a book and notes during a busy schedule, especially when you’re working. Podcasts can come in handy at that time as they are as easy as listening to music. Even if you’re listening to podcasts for a few minutes a day, it is ultimately contributing to your learning. #2. Saves Time Podcasts save a significant chunk of your time. Just like music, you can listen to podcasts and do other tasks along with it. For example, if you like to exercise, you can do so and listen to podcasts by plugging in earphones at the same time. #3. Improve Your Listening Skills We often keep on listening to songs even without realizing which one played. However, the scenario is different when listening to podcasts. When you know something important is being transmitted, you tend to shift your focus on the voice. This improves your listening skills and makes you sharp as a tack. #4. Hands-on Exclusive Content Many organizations and digital marketing experts create dedicated content for podcasts. They are scientifically designed keeping in mind that the listener gains the maximum information through a series of audio tracks. Therefore, you get to have the best information on the subject if you pick the right podcast. #5. Turn Your Imagination More Vibrant With Podcasts, your imagination becomes vibrant. As the stories and other pieces of information unfold through the audio, you can’t help but visualize them vividly. #6. Utilize Your Driving Time A lot of people drive to work and back. This takes up a significant chunk of their time and leaves them with little or no capacity to learn something new. Either you can choose to spend this time just driving and doing nothing or listen to podcasts in your car and make the most of your time. Unlike video, podcasts don’t distract you and help you focus only on the information instead of the visual effects. Top Platforms for Podcasts Search for podcasts on Google, and you will find a plethora of directories that host podcasts show, interviews, and other content, etc. However, you will find most of the reputed and popular podcasts on platforms like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, etc. Earlier iTunes used to be the go-to place for podcast lovers, but now it’s been replaced by Apple Podcasts, so there’s nothing to lose. Similarly, other platforms that have some of the best digital marketing podcasts include Stitcher, TuneIn, Spreaker, Google Play Music, Blubrry, Digital Podcasts, iPodder, Podcast Pedia among others. However, whichever podcast you choose to listen for digital marketing, make sure they have the following qualities: They must have a conversational tone and be able to keep you engaged. They must impart relevant information to the field. If your podcast features guests, make sure they are experts of the niche and not random people. Good podcasts have respectful debates with the motto of informing the listener about a subject. Make sure your podcasts are created by genuine and reputed organizations. Do not just hop onto any digital marketing podcast that you may find in your directory. How do iTunes podcast rankings work, really?
It seems like every brand has a podcast these days. From sponsored shows like Casper’s “In Your Dreams” and McDonald’s “Serial”-inspired investigation into its star-crossed 2017 Szechuan sauce revival to directly produced content like Brafton’s“Above the Fold,” brands have taken over the podcasting world.
We’re way beyond Mailchimp and Stamps.com ads here, people.
And why not? Podcasting is among the latest trends in digital marketing, providing yet another avenue for companies to engage target audiences, spread their messaging and establish their authority and expertise in whatever corner of the industry they operate in.
Unlike, say, whitepapers, blogs or eBooks, podcasts are a passive form of content, so listeners can stay tuned in and multitask. People who may not have time during the workday to sit down and read a whitepaper from start to finish can listen along to a branded podcast while devoting themselves to mundane tasks like checking email, generating reports or updating spreadsheets.
There are plenty of ways to promote your podcast – LinkedIn, email newsletters, your blog page, to name a few – but eventually you need to deal with the 800-pound gorilla of the podcasting industry: iTunes.
Making the most of iTunes as a distribution platform requires marketers to understand its ranking system so your show is exposed to the largest audience possible. But how do iTunes’ podcast rankings work, exactly?
Where’s the money? iTunes podcast rankings’ biggest challenge
Apple iTunes is one of – if not the – premier podcast platforms, and if you want to reach the most listeners, you’ll need to get your show hosted on the iTunes store. If you think you can get by with just your own landing page and SoundCloud, consider that every iPhone comes pre-loaded with the iTunes app. That’s a big, ready-made install base right there.
Like Google, Apple is pretty secretive about how its platforms rank content, releasing precious little information regarding its proprietary algorithms. You might think that both iTunes’ catch-all Top 200 list as well as the top-ranking charts related to various sub-categories would be driven exclusively by the number of downloads each podcast or episode receives, but it’s not quite that simple.
With Apple staying mum on the specifics of its iTunes podcast ranking method, are content marketers left searching in the dark?
Not quite.
Some intrepid folks have taken it upon themselves to probe the darkest depths of the iTunes platform, experiment with trackable measurements and shed some light on Apple’s process.
Dan Misener, head of audience development at Pacific Content, a firm that specialises in helping businesses develop their own branded podcasts, summed up the problem pretty succinctly, noting that there’s no easy way to tie podcast metrics with their monetary value. In other areas of the iTunes ecosystem – music, TV shows, movies and audiobooks – the vast majority of downloads are paid for, so there’s a simple monetisation link to identify.
Not so with podcasts.
While some do charge on a per-episode basis or for archived content, most are free to download. Obviously, B2B podcasts whose focus is on building engagement won’t charge at all, so we have to dig deeper into Apple’s KPIs to determine how its ranking system is set up.
The weird, wild world of iTunes podcast rankings
First off, it’s important to understand what Apple’s iTunes podcast rankings are trying to achieve. It isn’t solely a popularity contest – although raw downloads, play-button clicks and show subscriptions certainly factor into the equation. Rather, Apple approaches iTunes rankings with a similar mindset and goal as Google with its search rankings. It wants to support the best content that users will find valuable and enjoyable, and make those programmes more visible. Having said that, you still tend to see comedic, popular podcasts like “The Joe Rogan Experience,” “WTF With Marc Maron” and Bill Burr’s “Monday Morning Podcast” littered all over the Top 200 charts.
Figuring out what other listeners like – or at least what’s generated a lot of downloads – is a good start, but there are other engagement metrics to consider:
What percentage of listeners subscribe to the podcast?
What percentage of plays come from “drive-by” listeners(i.e., people who listen to podcasts in a one-off fashion and never subscribe to them)?
Did listeners finish the podcast? If not, when did they tap out?
What is its average star rating on the iTunes store?
What are people saying about it in the text portions of their reviews?
Now, a few of those KPIs are dependent on iTunes users agreeing to share their information with Apple. It’s difficult to say how many people opt into Apple’s data-sharing policy, but seeing as brand sites have their own blind spots with visitors who don’t enable cookies, content marketers should be used to that kind of uncertainty.
Libsyn’s Vice President of Podcaster Relations (yes, you read that right), Rob Walch, has done his fair share of experiments with Apple’s algorithms. In fact, you could maybe even go so far as to say that Walch is the foremost expert on all things iTunes podcast rankings – goofy professional title, notwithstanding.
Walch’s overarching conclusion? It’s all about new subscribers. Here’s how his ranking theory breaks down:
Multiply your number of new subscribers on day 1 by 4.
Multiply your number of new subscribers on day 2 by 3.
Multiply your number of new subscribers on day 3 by 2.
Add those three figures together.
Then, add to that the total number of new subscribers from days 4, 5, 6 and 7.
Once you’ve got that, divide the whole thing by 13.
That may sound like a lot of seemingly arbitrary math, but the important takeaway here is that bringing in a consistent flow of new subscribers will – we think – make or break your podcast’s iTunes ranking. Better get out there and start spreading the word.
The good news is that as competitive as iTunes podcast rankings are, they’re never static – in fact, Misener’s research suggests that Apple actively courts some degree of turnover among its top performers. So, focus on creating good content that people will want to listen to – even if just passively – and you’ve got a shot at hitting the upper echelons of the iTunes podcast ranking charts.
What you can do to improve your ranking …
Take a look at the Top 200 list for any podcast category, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a single fly-by-night show with low production values and hosts who are in over their heads. This is the cream of the crop, so if you want to be an iTunes partycrasher, you have to create a product that stands up with the best out there.
Bring an engaging host onboard
A good host can elevate dry subject matter, save a floundering interview and keep listeners coming back week after week. Ideally, your podcast host will be engaging, funny, intelligent and opinionated. They should be able to get a conversation going with your audience.
Focus on the latest news and trends
In theory, iTunes’ “New & Noteworthy” section focuses on podcasts that discuss groundbreaking industry developments and give a unique perspective on those trends and topics that make it worthwhile for discerning users to tune in. That also means you should regularly update your podcast with fresh episodes to cover the latest news and industry buzz.
Feel free to go off on the odd tangent every now and then. Those little diversions can lead you down some compelling rabbit holes. But never go into a recording session without a few major topics outlined beforehand. This isn’t Second City, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’re probably no Steve Carrell. You need some structure and direction to keep your podcast focused and relevant.
Promote your podcast with well-written copy
Very few people listen to a new podcast sight unseen. You need to draw them in by giving them a taste of what they can expect from a given episode or your podcast’s overall theme. A good episode summary should go beyond a strict play-by-play or bone-dry synopsis and entice iTunes users to give your podcast a listen. Don’t stop at iTunes either; you can gain more direct downloads by creating dedicated pages for each episode on your brand’s site.
Encourage more reviews
Most information out there suggests that both star ratings and review comments play a role in iTunes podcast rankings. Reach out to your listeners, even if it’s just a quick shout-out at the top or tail-end of an episode to have them leave a review on iTunes. A lot of iTunes users out there won’t think to leave a review, whether it’s good or bad, without a little prodding.
Promote your podcast everywhere you can
Treat your podcast like any other piece of content and get the word out. Add a download page on your website, promote it on social media and include it in your email newsletters – whatever it takes to increase awareness and drive visitors to your iTunes page.
… and what’s out of your control
For years the holy grail of podcasting was having your show highlighted in iTunes’ “New & Noteworthy” section. Many up-and-coming podcasts enjoyed a major boost in popularity after receiving Apple’s official seal of approval and being prominently featured in such a highly visible place on the iTunes store.
Unfortunately, according to Rob Walch, there’s really no way to game the system short of having an inside connection at Apple who’s either a big fan of your podcast or owes you a really big favour. Walch claims that there are no sophisticated ranking algorithms that determine what podcasts are given that primo spot on the iTunes store: All “New & Noteworthy” selections are curated personally by Apple staff members.
Of course, even if you did have an insider working at Apple, it may not matter. As recently as March 2018, observant podcasters noticed that many of the “New & Noteworthy” selections were coming up a little short in the “New” department. Eagle-eyed podcast editor Steve Stewart spotted multiple podcasts featured that were several months old.
This development would seem to contradict the widely held (and evidently mistaken) belief that only podcasts created within the last 8 weeks are included in the “New & Noteworthy” list.
Set realistic expectations
Every burgeoning podcaster’s dream is to land a coveted spot among iTunes’ Top 200 podcasts. It’s an ambitious goal, bordering on unrealistic, given the competition. “But”, you ask, “if Colin Cowherd can make it, why can’t I?”
Take a look at who you’re up against:
You’ve got heavy hitters like Conan O’Brien, Joe Rogan and Oprah herself in there. Not to mention massively popular podcasts like “Serial”, “This American Life” and “Stuff You Should Know”. Optimism is good. Confidence is even better. But you have to set some realistic expectations, otherwise you’ll always be disappointed by your podcast’s performance, no matter how well it does.
Set your sights a little lower and identify a sub-category that you want to target. iTunes segments podcasts into various categories, including Technology, Health, Education and Business.
You have a much better shot at cracking those highest-ranking charts than iTunes’ overall Top 200 podcasts. Not to mention, the people combing through those defined category pages will be more likely to actually download an episode of your podcast than someone who’s on the hunt for their next true crime fix. As always, you want to create content that’s relevant to your audience, so your first step should be figuring out what they’re interested in and what type of information they find valuable.
You can even use one of the many custom RSS feeds available to track iTunes podcast rankings for specific categories, which will make your job a whole lot easier.
One last bit of advice: Set up a dedicated RSS feed
Speaking of RSS feeds, be sure to create a specific RSS feed URL for your podcast and submit it to Apple. Why? Well, first of all, Apple won’t approve your podcast without one – kind of a deal-breaker there – but it also makes it easy for listeners to subscribe to your podcast and receive the latest episodes every time there’s a new update.
Creating a dedicated RSS feed for your podcast – rather than, say an all-encompassing feed that includes your blog posts, case studies, press releases and whatever other content is live on your site – helps podcast hosting apps like SoundCloud, Podcast Addict and Spotify pick up every new episode and make it available as soon as it goes live. That way, you can easily cover more ground and reach a wider audience beyond iTunes users.
Creating a high-ranking podcast isn’t impossible, but you definitely need to be dedicated to your podcasting craft to have a hope of cracking the Top 200 chart of any category on the iTunes store. And while Apple’s specific ranking method still remains somewhat shrouded in secrecy, hopefully it feels a little less mysterious now to all you burgeoning podcasters out there. With any luck, one day you’ll find yourself placed right up there alongside the Marc Marons and Karen Kilgariffs of the world.
In the meantime, happy podcasting!
