MONTHLY MEDIA: March 2024
……….FILM……….
Dune: Part Two (2024) Every piece of technology felt and looked so tangible. The baby worm too! Love the tactile nature of this whole production and I hope studios take note that CG can't be the only tool in your belt. So much bigger than I imagined and just enjoyed the whole thing.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) Ages surprisingly well and a script that lets the main quartet be both funny and layered.
……….TELEVISION……….
Columbo (1.01 to 1.03) Hey I'm starting Columbo! Love that each episode is feature-length and Columbo appears fully formed right out of the gate. The sets and costumes are all so glamorous and L.A. Very excited to keep going.
Succession (2.05 to 3.04) The Kendall play at the end of season 2 felt very much like the Kendall play at the end of season 1 and while I'm still a huge fan of this series, I just hope it's not the same going into season 3 and 4.
Delicious in Dungeon (Episode 1.09 to 1.13) Great adaptation that isn't just a straight recreation of the artwork in the manga. The more kinetic/frantic moments in the animation are a nice departure and while they don't pop up in each episode, now that I'm 13 eps deep I can appreciate how they're sprinkled throughout.
Love is Blind (Episode 6.02 to 6.13) It still amazes me that anyone goes on reality tv.
……….YOUTUBE……….
Twilight | ContraPoints by ContraPoints Yes I did watch a nearly 3-hour essay on Twilight, sexual expression, and all that comes with that. And you should too. VIDEO
Instagram fatigue and the rise of 'Resentment Reels' by Taylor Lorenz While I haven't noticed this specific phenomenon, I have noticed Instagram declining as an app (both as a user trying to see anything other than ads, and a creator trying to get my work seen in between those ads). It's a bummer. VIDEO
Saltburn: The Tumblr-ification of Cinema by Broey Deschanel Every since I saw Saltburn, I've been thinking about what wasn't quite sitting right with me. This unlocked a lot of what I couldn't describe and most of it stems from the writer/director's upper class upbringing. Saltburn isn't a "take down the rich" movie, it's a horror story from the perspective of a wealthy family. VIDEO
Why Is It So Hard To Cross The Street? (& What You Can Do To Help) by Strong Towns Accidents where drivers hit a pedestrian are going up in my area so this really hit home. And for those feeling like there's nothing you can do at ground level, consider taking their course (not a paid sponsorship I'm just in real support of community-lead initiatives). VIDEO
……….READING……….
Elric of Melniboné by Michael Moorcock (Complete) After picking up the last book in this series (which I've yet to read) I figured I'd start at the beginning. Love the fast pace pulpy action and I can see how this influenced the creation of D&D.
The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie (Complete) This one would lose me for stretches but the final quarter of the book is stronger. A lot less cozy and a lot more action than I was expecting but skimming other reviews it sounds like this was written during her more...adventure-focused era. Three books deep and I have to give Christie credit that each has been a completely different experience.
Adventures of a Japanese Business Man by Jose Domingo (Complete) Always love going back to this nearly wordless epic that follows the titular Japanese business man. I love the complexity of the earliest panels and wish that could carry throughout more of the book, but it's always such a treat to discover just where each new panel will go.
Delicious in Dungeon Volume 5 by Ryoko Kui (Complete) Enjoying rereading this with shorter breaks between volumes as I certainly missed/forgot details on my first read. It's here that the story and tone shifts from light romp to a more dramatic and dangerous affair but it never loses its spot-on humour. Love those dryad pumpkins.
Ultimate Spider-Man HC Volume 11 by Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, David Lafuente, and more (Complete) Going from some of my other comics back to this, I'm struck by just how wordy it can get. Now knowing where the story goes, it was a great idea to prime readers to the idea of Peter Parker dying even if it's not from this event.
……….AUDIO……….
Blank Check with Griffin & David (Podcast) Late to the game on this but really enjoying burning through their back catalog. Obviously started with their episode on Speed Racer as it's a near perfect film that you should watch right now.
……….GAMING……….
Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) The Tuesday group just killed a mayor! So the aftermath of that is going to play out over the next couple of sessions. And the Mof1 crew is investigating the aftermath of their own district-wide catastrophe and it's all looking rather suspicious!
Spot It (Blue Orange Games) I can't recommend this game enough. It's so easy to learn, rounds last maybe 5 minutes, it plays well with small or large groups of any age, and all it requires is pattern recognition and quick reflexes. Every time I've played this someone says they're going to buy a copy for themselves.
And that's it. See you in April!

after ages of it sitting in my watchlist and then seeing your posts, i just started x-files and it did NOT disappoint!!! i am 100% in love with the show and it is just amazing and so i just wanted to share 🫶🏼 i’m only on the first season but it’s like it gets better with each episode
i’m sorry it’s taken me a little bit to reply to this but i’m SO excited for you to watch this show! it’s been one of my favorite parts of this year and i think i’ll carry a little bit of my love for it with me forever now. the first season is very good. my favorites from that season are deep throat (1.02), squeeze (1.03), ice (1.08 - this is one of my all time fav xfiles episodes), beyond the sea (1.13), e.b.e. (1.17), and the erlenmeyer flask (1.24). the seasons only continue to improve too!!! my most favorite season is probably 4 or 6. also, a word of advice: there is an x-files movie called x-files: fight for the future (1998) and that takes place between seasons 5 and 6, so you must watch it after you finish season 5 to understand season 6. cherish your early mulder and scully and have lots of fun with that show because it is great <3333 feel free to come yell about it any time you want, too

I think the racism of spn can be summed up pretty well like this: the racist truck episode is referenced multiple times throughout the entirety of spn, but Cassie, the Black woman in that episode who kissed Dean and who Dean (repression master Dean!) had a deep enough relationship with that he told her about his life and implied he wanted to spend the rest of his with her, is NEVER mentioned again in any way. Dean never flirts with, kisses, or sleeps with another Black woman on the show again
literallyyyyyy cassie was SUCH a cool character and they made her like genuinely connected to dean and then did Nothing with that ever......it makes no sense! lisa is like so random and badly written when cassie was right there?? and like. they brought sarah back from just a few episodes after cassie (although doing that just to kill her was so horrible and absolutely i am not advocating for that lmao) even though she and sam only met that episode and had none of the emotional depth and history of dean and cassie. actually, what the fuck - if crowley was going after everyone they saved, why did sarah (1.19) get brought back with no mention of cassie (1.13).......like. okay.
anyways. i love maya’s cassieverse thoughts

1.13 Summer Solstice: Thoughts on MFMM 1.13 King Memses Curse
The evolution of Jack and Phryne across Season 1
The heart of this episode is about Phryne and the resolution of her backstory and that is as it should be. Yet, when considering this episode, I cannot do it without looking at the evolution of the relationship between Phryne and the Inspector that has occurred over the previous 13 episodes.
In many ways, the relationship we have watched evolve, continues as per usual in this episode. Jack attempting to lay down the rules and Phryne defying them. The difference in their characters is beautifully revealed through Jack’s determination to get a handle on the Foyle case. He is calm and methodical as he revisits all prior evidence in a logical order on his butcher’s paper wall. Meanwhile, Phryne, understandably, is running on instinct and emotion.
The scene where Jack attempts to control Phryne by arresting her is a delightful revelation. Stunned that Jack would attempt to curtail her in this way, she kicks him leading to the charge of assaulting a police officer being added to withholding evidence as he locks her away for her own safety.
I love that our spirited heroine kicks Jack just as much as I love Hugh apologising “I’m sorry Miss, I’m sorry Miss” as he carries her to the cells.
Phryne’s distress as she realises she is trapped in a cell while two people she loves (Jack and Jane) are in danger is hard to watch. It is lightened by Hugh ‘assisting’ Dottie to break Phryne out.
Having given herself to Foyle in an attempt to save Jack and Jane, it is actually Jack and Jane who come to her rescue.
And who didn’t swoon as Jack carried our unconscious heroine from the building?
But it is the closing scenes that are the most compelling when considering Jack and Phryne’s relationship. The scene at the graveside is one of the most intense of the series and it is fitting that Jack stands by Phryne’s side.
There is a gorgeous moment, almost lost within the scene, that subtly consolidates Jack’s importance to Phryne. As she sits by the graveside crying, it is Jack she reaches for.
At a time of deep despair, she reaches for the man who has stood beside her as she sought to solve the mystery of her sister. It was this simple, understated act that confirmed for me that this pairing was at the heart of the series.
Whilst Kerry Greenwood may not have wanted her literary character Phryne to be tied down to any man, thankfully our writers/producers saw an opportunity to develop one of the great love stories. This simple clasping of hands brings together two characters that, whilst on the surface appear disparate, when one looks at them as the sum of parts across the 13 episodes, it is undeniable that they are the yin to each other’s yang. But I’ll come back to that point soon.
The final scenes at Phryne’s party only serve to reinforce the pairing. There has been a decided shift in their relationship. What Jack and Phryne have shared has forged a bond that goes beyond physical attraction. There is no teasing, just a deep connection. Importantly, there is no judgement. Jack recognises the role the loss of Janey has played in the development of Phryne’s character and he acknowledges it, saying to her, “You owe it to her to keep living to the hilt”. Jack and Phryne are lost in each other’s gaze, as if both are aware of the shift in their relationship.
I’d like to think this is the moment Phryne recognises that Jack is a man who may just allow her to be herself, free from the confines of societal expectation. The unspoken exchange as they stare into each other’s eyes is only broken by Dot.
As Phryne reaches across the table to ask Jack to stay and help her celebrate, she acknowledges his importance to her. But, as she returns to the party, Phryne once again dons her carefully manufactured facade.
Only Jack sees through her. The look that passes between them from the doorway across the room is deeply charged. The slight smile he gives her, aside from setting my heart aflutter, belies the significant shift in their relationship that has occurred. Jack never takes his eyes off her and Phryne herself is obviously aware of him in a way that is not trivial or sexualised as many of her male suitors are.
Which brings me back to my earlier comment regarding the consolidation of their relationship. Over the course of the series, we have watched both Jack and Phryne evolve from the characters we met in Cocaine Blues. Consider Phryne: carefree, sexually liberated, uninterested in being tied down to anyone or anything. Indeed, it is only her desire to solve what happened to her sister Janey that has seen her return to Australian shores. Meanwhile Detective Inspector Jack Robinson is serious, withdrawn and in all honesty, we know very little about him.
But as the episodes unfold, we learn more about the vivacious lady detective and her protagonist inspector. We learn that the scars of World War 1 run deep as does Phryne’s sense of guilt over her sister’s disappearance. Nothing in Phryne’s backstory is an excuse or justification for her licentious behaviour, her experiences merely inform her current choice of actions. As she herself states she hasn’t taken anything seriously since 1918. She is determined to enjoy the good life and that seems to be primarily through the more sensual aspects of life.
Similarly, Jack’s experience of the war has informed his choices. To Jack, who holds family and honour close, the failure of his marriage coming on top of the horrors of the war, has led him to withdraw into himself. It is only as the episodes roll out that we see the spark creep back into Jack. To begin with, it is characteristic snark but by the end there is distinct humour in his exchanges and an openness to Phryne that would never have occurred to the Jack we met in episode 1.
But the evolution of both characters is not an accident, rather it is carefully nurtured. The writers/producers took a huge risk when they deviated so significantly from the original characterisations of Kerry Greenwood. But to their credit through the careful and consistent development of the characters across the series, through narrative that guides and develops the relationship in a realistic and valuable way, I believe they have retained the integrity and value of the literary Phryne and, at the same time, laid the groundwork for a believable relationship that the commitment-phobe Phryne of Episode 1 would have run a mile from.
For us to accept and to even care about a relationship between Jack and Phryne, it needs to be beneficial to both. Phryne cannot stop being the strong independent heroine we all love her to be. If her love interest pulls her down we either devalue her or reject the love interest. Instead any worthy suitor needs to build her up, strengthen her, improve her. But it must be a two-way street, she must also bring value to her love interest. She must view him as her equal intellectually and morally. If she doesn’t then he is no more than a diversion, retained only for the amusement he provides her. The writers have indeed provided us such a relationship. Jack and Phryne stand alone as individuals: both strong and independent but together they are even better and therein lies the true attraction of this relationship and the reason it works without detracting from the literary Phryne. They are, in short, the yin to each others’ yang.
A quick search through Google defines this as : “ The simple meaning is: You complete me. However, there is more to it. It's also about balance. So the other meaning would be : You balance me out. In Chinese philosophy, Yin and Yang represent how two even opposites can compliment each other and should be considered as a whole” (www.Quora.com). A perfect summation really of the relationship we see in this episode.
As Jack and Phryne exchange that loaded glance across the room at the end of Season 1, it is clear that the relationship between them has changed. I don’t think either Jack or Phryne are quite aware of how yet but there is no denying the resultant undercurrent. For those of us watching, we are in for a delightful ride as they, as well as us, navigate the new levels the relationship has moved to.
And what a delightful ride it shall be.

I just let it burn || I just let it burn || How many times do I got to tell you? || And when will you ever learn? || I just let it burn
--
Billy Russo x Reader, Soulmate Tattoo AU, follows the events of the Punisher S1 (2017) and S2 (2019)....for a while
Before Season 1
Introduction Soulmates exist. They’re said to love unconditionally, whatever that means, but no one is promising you perfect. Especially not Billy Russo.
Part One Chance meeting that will change the entire course of your life, but you don’t know that yet.
KRYPTOS: Sharp Dressed Man Billy Russo and first impressions.
Part Two You agree to meet up with Billy and he shatters all expectations. He’s not at all what you expected him to be, but isn’t that the whole point?
KRYPTOS: Flirtin’ with Disaster Billy Russo and a date with destiny.
Part Three You and Billy are getting to know one another. One night that changes the course of Billy’s entire life, but you don’t know that yet either.
Part Four Billy has a funeral to attend, but you are not invited. He’s acting strange, unsurprising, but what is normal after losing your ‘family’.
Part Five Billy talks you about his service, but he’s really talking about Frank Castle. You inspire Billy to give a little back after a chat with Curtis.
Part Six Billy pulls you close, lets you see parts of him no one else does. But then helping a stranger drives him away again and you’re not sure how to fix it.
Part Seven Billy Russo meets with his mother for the first time and it doesn’t go well, but their distance draws you two together again as you comfort him.
Part Eight Big changes when Billy lets you move in with him. He’s more comfortable around you, you’re uncomfortable around his dates.
Season 1
Part Nine Living with Billy gives you a front row seat to some well hidden quirks. Billy Russo is kind of a geek pass it on, but he wants to talk and it sounds big.
Part Ten Sunday morning with Billy in bed, that’s the dream right? An interruption leaves something unsaid, but unexpected date leaves you speechless.
KRYPTOS: Dance with Darkness Billy Russo and the job that’s never done.
Part Eleven it’s a bad idea spying on Billy and his new woman, but you do. You make a decision about your future, but Billy isn’t around to hear about it until it’s too late. (Parallel to Episode 1.06)
Part Twelve You meet someone new and he’s not Billy. Dating is hard when you can’t seem to shake your soulmate in a city of millions. Also, you get a dog.
KRYPTOS: The Devil You Know Billy Russo and the tale of two soulmates.
Part Thirteen Billy calls and it’s unexpected, but seeing Billy in action, really in action is almost as jarring as seeing him protect you from harm. (Parallel to Episode 1.08)
KRYPTOS: Wicked Games Billy Russo and blood.
Part Fourteen Talking to Billy shouldn’t be so easy, but some connections are soul deep. Things are “heating up” for Billy and you should probably stay away. (Parallel to Episode 1.12)
Part Fifteen THE chapter. You’re in the hospital. So is Billy. Neither one of you are ok. Memento Mori. (Parallel to Episode 1.13)
KRYPTOS: Ticking Bomb Billy Russo and nothing left to lose.
Season 2
Part Sixteen Billy Russo is neither armed or dangerous now that he’s in a coma, but you get some things off your chest and overhear a lot about him that you definitely weren’t supposed to know.
KRYPTOS: Storm Comin’ Billy Russo and the dreams that keep him awake. (Parallel to Episode 2.03)
Part Seventeen Billy breaks out of the hospital and comes to see you. He’s not sure why, but you aren’t the only one from his past he visits. Sorry Arthur. (Parallel to Episode 2.04)
Part Eighteen Coming home to find Billy waiting for you isn’t uncommon, but how much can a relationship grow when you’re called in by Brett Mahoney.
KRYPTOS: Before I Knew What Love Was Billy Russo and his hiding spots.
Part Nineteen You’re questioned -off the record- by Dinah Madani and the time you’ve spent with Billy is rubbing off on you. He likes that. A lot.
Part Twenty Someone from your past reappears and you spill some of your unfiltered feelings to Billy. His response is... pretty on brand.
Part Twenty One Billy learns what you’ve been hiding from him and he is driven to something- or rather someone- else.
Part Twenty Two While planning your trip, Billy learns what happened to him (Parallel to 2.08) and you help fill in some blanks.
Interlude Billy has plans to leave the city with Krista. At least he told you. (somewhere around Episode 2.10 or 2.11)
Part Twenty Three Basement stuff. Whirlwind. (Parallel to Episode 2.13)
Post Series, we left canon back in Season 2.
Part Twenty Four After facing Frank, you wake up somewhere unfamiliar with people you don’t know and a plan you didn’t agree to.
Part Twenty Five Frank’s plan is in motion and you can’t stop it now.
Part Twenty Six Billy Russo isn’t going to leave New York without telling you how he feels. Or at least, he’s going to try.
Part Twenty Seven** Billy Russo’s Excellent European Adventure featuring a soulmate that has no idea what she’s doing, but she’s doing it really really well. (warning: contains sexual content) ((+18 only))
Part Twenty Eight** Billy Russo crashes the after party of his soulmates funeral and does what he does best. (warning: contains sexual content) ((+18 only))
Part Twenty Nine Shit hits the fan. You and Billy are officially on the run.
Part Thirty The finale. Everything has been pointing to this moment, but Billy wasn’t ready.
Unrelated One Shots (aka deleted scenes that I got tired of wrestling with because they didn’t fit in my timeline and I’m still bitter about it. Expect more.)
Armed and Dangerous. (Billy comes to see you before his showdown at the carousel)
Deleted Scene, unnamed, unimportant (Billy visits and shows off his scars)

Knight Rider: A Modulator for Echoes
Summary: Takes place between episodes 1.13 and 1.14. Bonnie proposes a new voice modulator for Kitt, and his reaction is. . . mixed. SFW
Being in the hands of Bonnie always made Kitt feel- no, he did not feel, he reminded himself- anyways, it always told his sensors that he was in a place with no danger. That was always reassuring, especially after a harrowing mission. Bonnie was peace, Bonnie was calm. Her hands provided only gentle touches. She always talked while she repaired him. If he asked, she would talk him through exactly what she was doing. Not that he would ever deny her any access or doubt her intentions. He was simply curious. He could vaguely sense what she was doing under the hood through her manipulation of his parts, but given that he had no visual sensors in that area he couldn't see any exacts. However, Bonnie was rather excellent at describing what she was doing, so he was able to piece together a somewhat accurate picture of what was going on underneath his own hood. It was satisfying to learn, and it helped him to understand where he was the same with ordinary cars and where he differed. Most humans didn't have an accurate view of their own internal anatomy. Many didn't even know where all their internal organs were. Kitt found that odd, but then he remembered that most humans didn't like to delve too deep into their own biology. For some reason most of their bodily fluids disgusted them. Kitt could understand their aversion to blood- it would be like if he saw his own motor oil leaking, such a vital fluid to his engine -but the fact that humans were repelled by everything else was strange. He certainly didn't "freak out", as they say, when he saw a little bit of leaked coolant on the ground. "Alright, you're all set, Kitt." Bonnie said as she shut his hood. Her hands were stained with some lubricant or another. "Everything's looking good in there." "Thank you, Bonnie." He replied. "Here, let me wash my hands real quick and I'll come inside. I want to talk to you about something." Bonnie walked over to the small sink in the corner of the semi. Kitt watched as she lathered her hands in soap and scrubbed. The stain faded but persisted. She gave a small huff before drying off with a towel. She then came back over around his side and opened his driver's seat door. "Micheal been treating your interior well?" She asked as she got in. "Yes. Ever since I implemented my "lid-on-drink" policy, there haven't been any more spills." Kitt injected humor into his tone. He reflected that if he were human, he would have laughed. Bonnie did laugh. "That's good!" "So what did you want to talk about?" Bonnie lifted her arm and trailed her fingers over his voice modulator. "Say, I was wondering. . ." She then drew her hand back, as if changing her mind. Not that Kitt was a mind reader, but he had learned to read gestures well enough. "What is it?" He asked. "A few months ago I found a possible upgrade to your voice modulator." Bonnie continued, slower. "An upgrade?" Kitt suddenly became very aware of his voice modulator blinking to punctuate his words. The light was originally only supposed to indicate that he was speaking in the first place, and it was supposed to be a consistent pulse. However, over the months, he had in a sense devolved from that. He had begun, almost with no judgement, to flash it in time with his syllables. "Yeah, it's an upgrade. Instead of one light it would be three lights, in a shape almost similar to your horizontal dashboard gauges, except vertical. Would you like it?" An upgrade was an upgrade. Usually Bonnie installed those without him even knowing until after it was done. But now she almost seemed uncomfortable. Kitt could see and feel her body be tense against his seats. Not to mention the fact that she was giving him an option! "Why are you asking me?" He eventually replied. "Well, because. . . I mean, it's your body. Your choice." She said. Stranger, stranger still. "Alright. Let me see it first." Bonnie opened the door and got out of his cabin. She walked over to one of her many drawers that lined the walls. She opened it and got out a little rectangle, presumably the new configuration. She returned, clutching the object in her hands. "See?" "No, I don't. You're covering the object with your hands. Hold it open, please." He replied. She slowly turned it around in her hands. Kitt was going to scan the object in every frequency to get a better picture of it, but the mere visual sight of it brought his processes to a screeching halt. He knew this voice modulator. It was the voice modulator in the blueprints of the original Knight Industries prototype. "Bonnie, what is that doing here? I don't understand. You didn't- you didn't pick this up off of Karr, did you?" Kitt didn't like how he couldn't hold his voice together. The shock at the mere thought of the implication seemed to send his processor scrambling. Bonnie wouldn't, would she? "Oh, no, of course not! This isn't his exact voice modulator, but," Bonnie clutched the box back in her hands again. "But it's a voice modulator that looks and functions exactly like Karr's." Kitt interjected during her pause. "Where did you get it?" "We got it from the warehouse Karr was stored in. I've been tinkering with it for a while now since then," Bonnie replied. "I think it's a better design then the one you got right now." "Is that so?" He couldn't keep the edge out of his voice. "Yes, actually." She gave a quick glare, before looking ashamed. "It's alright if you don't want it. That's why I asked." Kitt paused. "Why would you suggest it in the first place?" "I thought it might suit you better. It's a much more complex design. It would allow you to be more expressive." She hesitated a bit on the last word. "More 'expressive'? Wasn't Karr's problem that he was too 'expressive'?" He rebuked. "No, Karr's problem was that it didn't care about hurting people, a problem you certainly don't have." Bonnie put her hand above Kitt's dash. "And to be perfectly fair, this wouldn't be an upgrade in a technical sense. It's only about your preference." "My preference? Bonnie, you know I can't have preferences." He replied. "Bullshit. I know you don't like Micheal's music." Bonnie sometimes swore when she was working on him, but she'd never swore directly at him before. The absurdity made it all the more strange- and amusing. "I suppose that is correct." "So, would you prefer to try this new voice modulator or stick with your old one?" She asked. "It wouldn't be yellow, would it? I think that would clash." He remarked. "No, I made it red. Yellow would be horrible. It wouldn't match at all." Her double meaning was subtle but readable. "It wouldn't." He concurred. Kitt watched her as she opened her mouth to say something, but closed it again. Her face cycled through a range of recognizable emotions, and some emotions that weren't quite so easy to read. He studied her features intently, hoping to learn perhaps what she wanted him to say next. "Well," she eventually spoke, "would you like me to plug it in so you can get a feel for it?" It wouldn't make any sense for him to deny the offer, would it? An upgrade was an upgrade. Never mind the strange thoughts going through his processor. He'd never turn Bonnie down. "Sure." Kitt removed the power from his current voice modulator. Bonnie made short work in taking the panel off. Being able to actually see its removal was different to say the least. He was tempted to bring power back to the empty port to explore what it felt like, but that would be irresponsible, as it would put Bonnie in danger of being shocked. Soon enough, however, she had the new panel back on. "Alright, try that." He brought power back to the unit slowly. It felt. . . different, as all of Bonnie's changes did, but it didn't feel foreign. The most pressing difference was the sudden jump in complexity. It wasn't just three vertical bars of lights; each bar had ranges of motion up and down. He fiddled around silently with all the different settings and configurations. "How. . . does. . . this. . . look?" He eventually spoke, trying to match the lights with his words in a way that felt normal. "I think it looks good." Bonnie nodded. "How about. . . this?" He spoke quieter, and at the same time he shortened the vertical lights. "I'm whispering, see?" "That's great!" She smiled. "Or this?" He announced louder, expanding the bars. "When I need to get Micheal's attention?" "That's perfect. That's wonderful. See, I told you the ability to be more expressive could be good." Bonnie had laughter in her voice. "Perhaps it will be an advantage." Kitt replied. "Well that's that then." She tapped the panel. "I'm glad you like it." "Thank you, Bonnie." He said simply. "Alright, well I'm off to go tell Micheal and Devon that you're all set." Bonnie opened his door. "Do you think Micheal will like the new look?" Kitt asked. "Of course." She replied before leaving his cabin. Kitt didn't track her from there. Instead, he turned inward. Already his processor was making comparisons. Did Karr experience the exact same sensations when he had activated his voice modulator? Before now, it had been easy for Kitt to separate himself from his predecessor. Kitt knew that Karr had many of the same functions he did- auto mode and turbo boost, for example, but how Karr had used those functions had been totally different. But the voice modulator. . . Karr had talked. He had expressed himself plenty, and though Kitt had never seen Karr's interior he knew that Karr flashed his voice modulator lights as he had spoken. It was programming, almost like human instinct. No doubt Kitt had picked up on this new voice modulator so quickly through a very similar program. A similarity in processing. A glimpse into the experience of his imperfect, dangerous, and violent predecessor. Micheal entered the trailer with a smile on his face. Kitt was brought out of his thoughts immediately as his scanners traced over every inch of Micheal's body. All was well. It looked like his partner had slept well and had a good breakfast meal (which Devon was likely the one to thank for). His vitals were normal, and of course, the expression on his face was genuine. A surge of something- perhaps contentedness? -swept through Kitt. "Good morning, Micheal." Kitt greeted. "Morning, Kitt." Micheal waved. The gesture filled Kitt with warm familiarity. "How've you been? How's Bonnie been treatin' ya?" "Good, as always. She just finished my repairs." Kitt replied. "Any new upgrades?" Micheal came alongside him, putting his hands on his roof. "Nothing much." "Ready for a drive?" "Why would I say no?" Micheal tapped Kitt's roof before opening the door and hopping in the driver's seat. It didn't take long for his eyes to find the new change. "Oh? What's this?" "I got a new voice modulator. What do you think?" It felt like an eternity before his partner answered. "Looks great, buddy. Looks great." "Thank you. Bonnie suggested it might help me to be more 'expressive'." Kitt continued in a relaxed tone. "More expressive? You didn't need any help for that." Micheal's mischievous smile seemed to light up his entire interior. "Yes, I don't need the help, but it might help you. Bigger lights might help you notice and listen when I'm trying to give you sound advice that you should really listen too." He teased in return. "Hey! I listen!" Micheal's heartrate elevated a beat or two at the accusation. A sign of irritation, but only slight. "Yes, and about that time when I was telling you about the security camera, and you didn't hear a word I said-" "Okay, okay, okay. Let's hit the road, shall we?" Micheal made a calming gesture with his hands. "Of course, Micheal. You have the controls." Micheal laughed and tapped the steering wheel, but otherwise said nothing. The rear of the semi trailer opened, revealing a wide blue sky and a gently curving road ahead. Micheal resumed control and surprisingly didn't talk more, but the silence wasn't heavy or awkward. The feeling of Micheal's hands on his steering wheel was all the interaction needed. Kitt liked the whole scenario very much (he did have preferences, after all). Micheal, his driver, his partner, his whole reason for existence, leading the way, picking their path. In that moment Kitt knew that Karr had never experienced such a sensation.

QUELIOT MOMENTS SEASON ONE
All of these posts will be tagged Masterlist and Queliot Masterlist so if you ever need to find it go to my blog and look under that tag.
If there is anything you want to add/amend please send me a message.
This does not include every time they are in a scene together, more along the lines of directly speaking to each other or moments the fandom has come to agree are important.
SEASON ONE
1.01 Unauthorized Magic Eliot is the first person Quentin meets. E: “Quentin Coldwater?” Q: “Yeah.” E: “I’m Eliot. You’re late.” Eliot blatantly checks him out.
Eliot brings Margo to meet Quentin. M: “This is him? He’s not that cute.” They give Quentin a tour.
A bunch of great little scenes showing them hanging out, studying. Margo and Eliot join Quentin to crash Julia’s birthday party.
1.02 The Source of Magic Talk after the Beast attacks for the first time. E: “Jesus, you didn’t tell me you were dangerous.”
Brings Alice and Quentin to the Cottage for the first time.
Eliot and Quentin talk about the Beast, Quentin admits he’s scared he’ll be expelled. Q: “Before I got here I was in the hospital.” E: “I’m gonna tell you something deep and dark and personal now. Ready? Okay--I killed someone.” Q: “If you’re trying to tell me that it gets better--” E: “God, no no. It doesn’t. I’m trying to tell you, you are not alone here.” Magic doesn’t come from talent. It comes from pain.”
Quentin is informed a specialist is coming to see him, he is openly panicking. Q: “You do not have to make me feel better. Really, we basically just met each other.” E: “Well, I bond fast. Time is an illusion.” “How bout, I find you and I don't say magic is real but I do seduce you and so lift your spirits that life retains its sparkle for decades.” Q: “Yeah, that sounds nice. Thank you.”
After being told he’s not going to have his memory wiped Quentin heads back to the Cottage where Margo and Eliot are barbecuing and they shout for him to join them.
1.03 Consequences of Advanced Spellcasting Alice and Quentin burn their way into the Cottage where Margo and Eliot wait for them. M: “You and your first year boys. What’s your obsession with the flavor of the month?” E: “He’s a high-strung super nerd. We love those.”
Alice and Quentin are doing some studying to figure out how to talk to Charlie when Eliot runs up and pulls Quentin away. E: “Quentin. I need your help. Top priority.”
Eliot tells Quentin they need to go find a book while Quentin asks again and again what is in the box next to them that keeps shaking. They go find the book where the hedge witches are hiding.
Quentin and Eliot get drunk at the Cottage. E: “Tell you what, let’s not talk.”
1.04 The World in the Walls Quentin is trapped in a “mental” mental hospital. Eliot grabs at him a bunch, slaps his ass, tells him he’ll sleep with Quentin.
Back in the real world, they find Quentin passed out in a closet and have to tell the Dean about it. Once they administer the Matarses (bug demon) the Dean says Quentin needs to do the rest. Eliot and the others stay by his side until he coughs up the bug. Eliot pats him on the head.
1.05 Mendings, Major and Minor Welters season is upon the students, along with an influx of mentors. Quentin judges people for choosing lackluster careers despite being magicians. E: “This isn’t Middle Earth, Quentin. There aren’t enough noble quests to go around.”
Q (talking to Margo): “What kind of system is that? Why can’t it run on love? Or cocaine, or something?”
Eliot is talking to Alice when Quentin comes up and demands his attention. Q: “What do you know about Cancer Puppy?” Eliot shows him the puppy and Quentin says he can heal him. E: “You’re going to cure Cancer Puppy?” And then ends up killing the dog.
1.06 Impractical Applications The Trials begin for the first-years and Margo and Eliot have fun tormenting them throughout.
E: “...and take turns blowing the horse.” M: “Did you see the look on Quentin’s face?” E: “Like ‘fine, but I am not going first’.”
1.07 The Mayakovsky Circumstance NADA
1.08 The Strangled Heart Alice and Quentin get back from Brakebills South where Eliot is hosting his new boytoy, Mike. Quentin takes the drinks Eliot has prepared. Q: “How do you always have drinks waiting for us?”
Mike: “Nice meeting you.” E: “Hey, eyes on the porkbutt mister.” Mike: “He’s pretty.” E: “I know, but I called dibs on him, so.”
Margo is in Ibiza so Eliot goes to Quentin to help him find something to wear. Q: “Honestly, all vests look the same to me.” E: “I made a horrible mistake asking you to help. Please leave.” Q: “I was here first. I’ve never really seen you care about something.” E: “Things usually aren’t worth caring about.”
Mike attacks Quentin, Eliot and Quentin are in the hospital waiting room sharing a flask.
1.09 The Writing Room Eliot joins Alice, Quentin, and Penny to go to the Plover’s mansion.
In the last episode Eliot had to kill Mike and I believe this marks the beginning of his downward spiral from ‘drinking for fun’ to ‘drinking to get and stay royally fucked up’. Quentin doesn’t say anything about his binge but from here on out seems to look genuinely worried for Eliot. They also become a LOT more snippy with each other during most of their exchanges.
Once they escape the haunted house Quentin hugs Alice, says he is happy to see her alive. E: “We’re great. We’re both great actually.”
Alice wants to clear the house, Eliot basically bitches her out. Q: “Shut the fuck up.”
1.10 Homecoming Alice and Quentin talk to Margo and Eliot in which Eliot is truly fucked up and Quentin looks at him with worry.
1.11 Remedial Battle Magic The gang try probability spells to see what will happen with the Beast. This marks the FIRST TIME Quentin has had to see/deal with Eliot dying.
They use the emotion bottles for the first time, this isn’t a Queliot thing but when they drink their emotions again Eliot remains VERY standoffish to Margo suggesting he is always bottling his emotions and rarely shows how he really feels towards people/situations. This is very apparent in the show and the books but I feel like this is the first piece of EXTREMELY concrete evidence we get.
After practicing battle magic Eliot and Quentin retire to the Cottage and are shown drinking--clearly have been drinking for quite a while. They laugh together.
Eliot, Quentin, and Margo fall into bed together, all drunk. Eliot passes out and Quentin and Margo discuss him before it cuts to the morning where everyone is naked. There are flashes of the night before showing that they had a threesome. First Queliot kiss.
1.12 Thirty-Nine Graves More flashbacks of the threesome.
Q: “It’s not funny and it’s not a joke.” E: “But it really is, Quentin.”
1.13 Have You Brought Me Little Cakes Once Quentin and Julia are in the Fillory of the present, Quentin is hit in the head by a paper airplane Eliot enchanted to find them. They rejoin the gang. E: “Really good to see you again, Q.”
Eliot finds out he’s going to be High King. He relinquishes his never-emptying flask to Margo. It’s not a Queliot quote, but I think it’s an important one to have in the wheelhouse when Eliot says, E: “I am miserable. My life it doesn’t work. Nothing’s ever fixed that. Drug, sex, booze. Not even magic.”
The Beast reveals himself and proceeds to kill Alice, cut off Penny’s hands and (I think?) kill Eliot and Margo (I honestly don't know if he killed them or just knocked them out but it would make a LOT more sense for him to kill them). This marks the SECOND TIME Quentin has had to see/deal with Eliot dying.

MONTHLY MEDIA: February 2022
Slowly getting through the winter months and the following movies, tv, games, and books really helped pass the time!
……….FILM……….
Police Story (1985) Jackie Chan is a treasure and this movie is incredible. I never knew where exactly the plot was going, the fight choreography is fantastic, and I was in genuine shock at the end of section set in the village. Really really great.
Stop Making Sense (1984) Gosh Talking Heads are a really great band and what a great concert! Also had no idea Tom Tom Club was an offshoot so that was a fun surprise.
Hot Fuzz (2007) I don’t think there’s an ounce of fat on this script. I really think every single beat becomes a payoff. I also love the idea of this cast getting to do the things they do on set and it makes the whole thing that much more fun. Just a joy.
The Terminator (1984) First time viewing and it really holds up. Everything in the movie pays off and so many fun surprises. Even the final confrontation surprised me and I already knew how they defeat the Terminator! The slow degradation of the villain, the exposition in the middle of a car chase, it all felt so natural.
……….TELEVISION……….
The Bachelor (Episode 26.04 to 26.07) Okay I was too easy on Clayton. He’s...just so bland. Though I do appreciate that he can barely hide the fact that he likes just one woman (Rachel) and barely connects with any of the others. He’s nothing if not honest.
Love is Blind (Episode 2.01 to 2.05) I forgot how wild this series is and it really makes me wonder what sorts of personalities are drawn to this type of show. Also I wish we got to spend ANY time with those that didn’t pair up. Show us their conversations, Netflix!
Cuphead (Episode 1.01 to 1.12) Really fun. I was a little nervous that the spirit of the game would get lost in translation but it really came together. Lots of little cameos from the game and the spirit of the whole thing (the episode length, the plots, the stakes) all felt very Looney Tunes. Oh and those 3D backgrounds! Oof just so much to love.
Dorohedoro (Episode 1.05 to 1.13) So great! While the season ends on a different note than expected, I was really happy with the entire journey. These characters and the world are so weird and interesting that it was just fun getting to spend time in this world. I hope a second season gets greenlit and I think I might pick up the manga while I wait.
……….READING……….
The Will to Change by bell hooks (Complete) This is my first book by hooks and I was floored. I can’t effectively communicate how much this book resonated with me and how it’s fundamentally affected my outlook as a feminist. Oof it just...shares so much in under 200 pages. Please read this. It’s for all genders. It’s for parents. It’s for anyone experiencing the human condition.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The IDW Collection Volume 10 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Mateus Santolouco, Dave Wachter, Pablo Tunica, Sophie Campbell, and many more! (Complete) This is the sort of ninja turtles stories I enjoy: dimension-hopping, zany characters and settings, a ghostbusters crossover, all super fun. It’s a nice contrast to the sewers and skyscrapers of New York and I really feel the ninja turtles are at their best when they lean into the bonkers.
……….AUDIO……….
The Renner Files (Podcast) I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a podcast dripping with so much sarcasm so your mileage may vary. It’s a breezy breakdown of the Jeremy Renner app fiasco and I genuinely learned more than I was expecting.
……….GAMING……….
Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Forthcoming, Andrews McMeel Publishing) So two groups adventured in Oz this month! My weekly crew is knee-deep in some gambling trouble (full campaign diary over here) and my bi-weekly group is exploring the seedy neighborhood and all that the area has to offer.
Spelunky (Mossmouth) Really had a lot of fun with this and now better understand the fanbase around this and its sequel. I don’t think I’ll go for all the secret stuff but just playing through for the regular ending was already so satisfying.
And that’s it! As always, let me know if you have any recommendations and see you in March.

Lily Sparks OUAT recaps masterpost.
So, @sieben9 I don’t believe you had a pleasure to meet Lily Sparks yet? She’s a tv.com journalist who happens to make pretty damn ouat recaps.
THIS POST MAY CONTAIN THE LINKS TO EPISODES YOU HAVEN’T SEEN YET, BUT DON’T WORRY, THOSE EPISODES ARE NOT TITLED SO YOU WON'T ACCIDENTALLY BE SPOILED.
ALSO: I CAN’T FIND ANY MORE RECAPS PAST 6.11 SO IF ANYONE KNOWS WHY/HAVE ANY MORE LINKS (IF THEY EXIST) PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND DON’T SPOIL ANYTHING FOR SIEBEN)
She is funny,
sarcastic,
and she’s always brutally honest.
Emphasis on brutally.
Of course, the photos are not the only thing you might enjoy, Lily’s recaps really are something else, and besides being sarcastic little shit, she’s very often on point. Here’s one paragraph from 1x06:
Snow and Prince Charming have mixed DNA, so for him to look at a windmill and decide to go back to his fake wife is not piquing my interest in their relationship so much as punishing me for caring about them in the first place. It doesn't help that Josh Dallas might seriously be into Ginnifer Goodwin. I mean, if the acting he's doing opposite his fairytale mom is any indication, I don't think that crackling energy in his scenes with Ginnifer is acting. #StartingRumors
About year later Josh and Ginny got married.

y’all don’t understand how emotional episode 1.13!varchie makes me
look how happy he is with her
and then at the very BEGINNING of their relationship they got thrown in such deep waters with so much drama and emotions.
The fact is that varchie overcame so many emotional obstacles (Fred getting shot and then Archie’s spiraling into madness; hiram coming back)/ their relationship just got stronger because of it -- I can’t imagine them breaking up any time soon.

Do you have or know where to find a list of Regina centric or at least episodes with a lot of Lana? Also same question, but for Regal Believer. Or do you know of any complilation vid of Regal Believer moments thru the series? When I search Youtube, it's mainly just a montage set to music, but I want to see/hear actual scenes. Thanks!
