Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 - REACTION + THOUGHTS

Holy fucking shit, everyone 😭 it was only two episodes and yet I feel drained, it took like 4+ hours to get through two damn episodes but I did it!

My reaction to Episodes 1-7 are HERE!

I wrote my thoughts in a notebook as I watched and I’ve elaborated more on those thoughts in this post below. Mostly it’s a lot of freaking out and fangirling though 😂

Episode 8 - Papa

Honestly not really here for Will’s painting/feelings being used to further the Mileven pairing :/

The way Jonathan was looking at Will and Mike, I thought he was thinking “yeah my brother’s got it bad”

001 | A Kind of Magic!

Favorite character: Ferocia.

Very unusual choice to me because I usually choose protagonists (kids and teens a little more often than adults 'cos, Idk, cartoons?) and sidekick good guys. Ferocia looks like a total opposite but I believe she's a teen in spirit who got stuck in her punk rebel phase.

Least Favorite character: Well, the majority of side characters is pretty lame, but I guess the prince that always stinks is the worst.

5 (3) Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Gregore/Willow, Gregore/Ferocia, Dji/Willow.

There are some other ships I'm open to but I don't concider them as favorite: His Highness/Venoma, His Highness/Ferocia, Cindy/Cinderella, Cindy/Tamara.

Character I find most attractive: His Highness when he was human. Also Cindy when she had turned herself into a guy.

Character I would marry: Gregore or Dji – they are the best husbands ever!

Character I would be best friends with: Dji. His job is to be everyone's bestie.

A random thought: I think Ferocia is the one who turned His Highness into a toad. They never explained why HH is in the family.

An unpopular opinion: The show is about a european white family and is generally heteronormative but sometimes, intentionally or not, it depicts issues that minorities usually struggle with. Gregore since childhood knew he didn't want to be an ogre as he was raised to be. He and Willow had to have a wedding in a cave with no friends and family to witness it, because a marriage of a fairy and an ogre was strictly forbidden. They tried to renew their vows in human world, but unfortunately they gave up because it was hard for them to deal with human rules. Gregore wanted his family to assimilate which means no magic allowed, but Willow didn't want to change or hide her fairy identity. The kids assimilated easily but also had to deal with the cultural differences when they had to catch up with their grandparents. The show had a lot of potential especially when Cindy and Tom both were adopted in an early concept, but unfortunately it came to be a bit shallow.

My Canon OTP: Gregore/Willow.

My Non-canon OTP: Dji/Willow/Gregore/Ferocia – a П-shaped OT4. x))

Most Badass Character: Ferocia, ofc. But she does have a caring heart and I love that in her.

Most Epic Villain: The show doesn't have a major antagonist so I'm not sure how to answer that. Ferocia is not that evil afterall. But the most epic moment that has come to my mind is when Willow pretended to be an evil witch in the Halloween special. That was freaking amaizing!

Pairing I am not a fan of: Tinker/Tom and Sophia/Tom. These are onesided and I dont't see anything wrong with a kid having a crush on someone older than them, but sometimes I see that kind of tension coming from Tom I wouldn't like to see. Also I must say that the episode when Willow basically had a date with a dog and didn't know it was her husband was a total cringe.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): pretty much all of them. Х)

The writers couldn't decide whether Gregore and Willow escaped from Fairyland because of their marriage or because of Ferocia being a criminal.

There's also like 3 different canon versions of how Ferocia lost her magic and why she was expelled from Fairyland. The episode when she found her wand could be the most epic in the series but turned out to be lame.

The writers completely ruined HH's character in the episode, where he returned his human form but became a total jerk, and in the end he decided to turn back into a toad, because it's the only way for him to be a good friend of Tom for some reason — like, really?!?!?!?!

Cindy was a full-time jerk in season 1. Season 2 did a much better job. The most of the side characters aren't even worth mentioning.

Favourite Friendship: Tom and His Highness. Sometimes they have such a great sibling dynamic!

Character I most identify with: I'm between Cindy and Gregore, I guess. X))

Character I wish I could be: Dji. He's just perfect in every way.

welcome to the third season of DREAM TEAM LEGACY! for this season, there will be an added twist in that this will be the HALLOWEEN EDITION! due to the busy schedules from the other groups, the only people eligible to participate in this event are ACTORS, MODELS, and TRAINEES ( including the ones in the EVALUATION GROUP and anyone who is NOT participating in FUTURE DREAMS ). in character, all of the muses who fall under those categories will be a part of this season even if the requirements were not completed.

individually, all of the groups mentioned above have been notified of their participation on the show, day of filming, place of filming, and their teammates. KBS has confirmed a payment of 603,000 KRW for participation (due to split income with the company, trainees will be paid 301,500 KRW each).

the main task for this season is to complete the maze as quickly as possible. the challenge though is that it isn’t just one maze that they have to complete but two mazes in a giant halloween themed room! in the beginning, 2-3 MEMBERS in each team are allowed inside the first maze ( every 5 minutes ) to prevent everyone entering in the same area all at once. for reference, here are the details about each of the mazes:

MAZE 001 ( THE MIRROR MAZE ): everything seems like a typical mirror maze...or so one assumes. what they don’t know is that there are three people ( NPCs ) dressed up in costumes roaming around this maze to rip the name tags. as a player, the goal is to avoid getting caught by these people because once your tag is ripped, you will be sent to “JAIL” by the staff members, which is located in another room. as a penalty, the player will be stuck in that room until they roll the dice. if you get two of them that have the SAME NUMBERS (e.g. 4 and 4 or 3 and 3), you are allowed to go back but you will have to start at MAZE 001 all over again. on the other hand, if you fail to get the same two numbers, you will be given the extra penalty to wait 5 more minutes before trying again.

MAZE 002 ( THE LASER MAZE ): once you complete MAZE 001, you will be sent to this area where it’s filled with lasers crossing from one side of the room to the other. at first it may seem simple since the switch to turn off all of the lasers is straight ahead. but there’s a twist! for every ten minutes, the lasers change directions! if the laser touches you, the alarm siren will go off and you will be sent to the “JAIL” room by the staff members. if you or any of your teammates turn off the laser switch, you are given five minutes for everyone to cross to the end of the room.

for the team to successfully complete the challenge, EVERYONE must complete both of the mazes. when the last person has finished the maze, the timer will stop and that will be the official completion time for the team.

as for the team members, it is split into two teams. since there is the possibility of new trainees joining the rp from now until the deadline, we’ve listed THE GROUPS instead of their names. so if your muse falls under one of those groups ( you can reference over here in the TRAINING GROUP COLUMN ), that is where your team is!

IMPORTANT: as written in the requirements, the thread has to be when the cameras ARE rolling, please do not write threads during breaks or off camera, the goal is to write about what the viewers are likely to see. before writing about any incident like injuries, please communicate first with the main. of course, since you won’t be aware of which team wins beforehand, refrain from writing about being better or faster than another team (and do not mention names unless agreed upon with the other team’s mun first, but you can leave it vague. the winning team will be randomized, unless a team specifically agrees to lose for writing purposes and won’t be counted (please also inform us if that is the case).

Beyond the Road: Pilot

001 “Pilot” Written by Eric Kripke Directed by David Nutter

Plot Summary

In 1983, Mary Winchester was pinned to the ceiling of her sons bedroom and murdered. Twenty two years later her sons, Dean and Sam are reunited after several years apart when their father goes missing. They follow him to the town of Jericho where a string of men have vanished and though their father is nowhere to be found, the brothers continue the investigation which leads them to a stretch of highway and the local mystery that surrounds it.

Sam

Normal vs Safe. A good chunk of this episode is dedicated to highlighting Sam’s decision to leave the supernatural behind him and try for a safe life. He makes the distinction between ‘normal’ and ‘safe’ when Dean accuses him of running. He doesn’t think he can have a normal life. This is an issue Sam will struggle with for the whole series, going all the way up to 15x16. In this episode however, he argues that his life isn’t normal but he wants a safe life. He doesn’t want a life where he is constantly looking over his shoulder but he won’t ignore danger. We get a glimpse of this when Dean breaks into the apartment - Sam can clearly still fight. In contrast to this, we do see Sam’s aversion to anything reminiscent of the supernatural such as Halloween. He doesn’t want to think about it as he doesn’t see how it could possibly live alongside the life he has chosen for himself.

Branching off of this, I wanted to make note of a distinction between Sam and Dean and their worldviews. As Sam and Dean leave the apartment they talk harshly about the way they were raised. Sam claims that they were “raised like warriors”. He talks about how, when he was scared of the ‘monster’ in his closet John gave him a weapon. He views this as something that shouldn’t have happened - that John should have told him not to be scared. Dean argues against this but it starts to become clear that Sam can only see the horror in the hunter lifestyle. This is a contention Sam and Dean will return to in the next episode and elsewhere in the series. Sam is only able to, at this point, see the negatives of a hunter lifestyle.

Sam’s resistant to the way he and Dean were raised, but an interesting idea begins to form during their argument on the bridge. Sam doesn’t see John’s revenge plan as something he is part of, unlike Dean. He doesn’t want to avenge Mary as he doesn’t remember her. He is very unsympathetic about John’s revenge plan which, I think it’s safe to say, stems from that manner in which he was raised. He was dragged around the country and his own life seemingly put on pause so John could hunt and get revenge. Sam has far more self-preservation than Dean and puts his own life over revenge. This is a theme that will come up again and again during the show.

Something else that I noticed during my rewatch was Sam listening to Jess’s messages in John’s motel room. He listens to her messages but doesn’t actually talk to her. In fact, during his time in Jericho, we never see Sam call Jess. The only person he attempts to communicate with is Dean. He will listen to her stories but doesn’t contribute anything himself. Just like their pasts; Jess has, as far as we are aware of, been honest and open to Sam about herself. Sam, on the otherhand, is keeping so many secrets from her that it comes across as a rather unequal partnership.

Dean

First thing to note for Dean is the Original Trauma of Supernatural; Dean carrying his brother out of the burning house. This has been talked about… everywhere. I felt like I still had to mention it and how this is the base layer of Dean’s personality and something that is embedded in his sense of self-worth. I also wanted to make note of how this continues through to the show through to 15x10. Dean is put in charge of looking after Sam and so much of his life is structured around his role as Sam’s protector. This affects other relationships in Dean’s life as he struggles to put Sam down long enough for himself to pursue anything or anyone not directly linked to hunting or Sam. This is something he will eventually grow out of by the time we get to 15x10.

There’s something else that has never really occurred to me but Dean probably relates so strongly to victims of the week because he himself was a victim of a supernatural attack. Sam doesn’t remember the night Mary died and doesn’t let it rule his life but for Dean that night changed his whole world. I’ve never quite made that connection until now but, as we’ll see starting the very next episode, Dean is more empathetic to victims than Sam is and it possibly stems from this.

Okay, about Dean flirting with Jess. Obviously, at the very start of the series Dean is meant to be portrayed rather less thoughtfully than what Jensen actually did so this could be brushed aside as the writers just wanting to make Dean a fuckboy but this kind of behaviour does show up again later in the series but with more baggage tied to it. Dean flirts automatically. He makes cheeky comments laden with sexual innuendo all the time, including later in this episode to the police. It’s possible that he just finds this the easiest way to make a connection without actually opening himself up too much. Also, in recent years he has lost both Cassie and Lee so this flirting, which actually worked to distance Jess more, may have been a way of keeping out anyone he considered an “outsider” because the last two he let in didn’t stay.

Something else that was interesting about Dean’s thoughts on Jess is something I only really noted on this recent watch; he doesn’t think her relationship with Sam is healthy because Sam is lying to her. For someone who lies for a living Dean struggles to lie to people he cares about, especially people he enters relationships with. At this point Dean’s two biggest relationships have been with Lee, another hunter who worked with Dean and understood the life, and Cassie, who Dean told all about hunting and monsters and subsequently lost. As the series progresses Dean will have a serious relationship with Lisa who learns about monsters and hunting. His relationship with Cas becomes fraught when Cas lies to him in s6 and honesty becomes a central aspect of their bond, with telling the truth becoming the major story arc for their characters.

The last point I want to make about Dean is about the bridge fight between the brothers. Dean says that Sam has “a responsibility” to their father which Sam scoffs at. In reality, Dean is the one who has tied himself to John out of a sense of duty. This line reads to me like Dean projecting onto Sam, something he will do again during the series. Dean is the one who tied himself to the family revenge crusade and his anger at Sam here hints at his own anger about his situation. This is something that will rear its head later on in the series.

Mary

The opening scene became more painful the longer the series went on for. From being sad about a family being torn apart to being sad about the loss of Sam and Dean’s mother and childhood innocence we can now see the scene from Mary’s point of view. Having lost her own childhood and parents to the supernatural Mary’s desire to run and live a normal life is understandable. In that manner, Sam is like her though unlike Sam, the price of running was paid by Mary and not an innocent bystander. The two deaths bookend the episode but also suggest a theme of continuing the cycle.

Mary vs Constance. I’ve written about the parallels of Mary and Constance here. I do have one thing I wanted to add to this and that is something that occurs on the bridge during the brothers fight. Sam and Dean argue about Mary culminating in Dean shoving Sam against the bridge’s railing and that is when Constance appears. Symbolically Constance represents the ghost of Mary, haunting the boys even after all these years. She is summoned as they invoke her name, wearing a similar nightgown to what Mary died in. The death of Mary had a major effect on the boys and this episode begins to hint at it though we won’t see it fully realised until her return much later in the series.

“Angels are watching over you”. I know, I know. It wasn’t technically said in this episode but as it is confirmed in s2 that these were Mary’s last words to Dean I think I’m safe to talk about it. I won’t say a lot yet but this line does tie Cas into the original trauma of the show if only as the representation of the faith that Dean would learn to trust after having given up because of this trauma. Mary’s faith is something that became tainted in Dean’s eyes after she died. He never had the same faith that Sam did because of this until an angel proved himself to Dean. This imagery comes full circle in s12 when Cas does save Mary in 12x12 but more on that later.

The Story

So the episode itself is primarily linked to Mary’s death and the Trauma of the Winchester Family. It does set the characters up for their journeys moving forward as well though. The story is ultimately dominated by the brother, of course, learning to be brothers again. When the show started Sam was intended to be the main character while Dean was a supporting character. During the episode we start with Sam and don’t get much insight into Dean as a character. Knowing what happens in the rest of the series really highlights how Sam truly didn’t know his brother as well as he thought he did. Or rather, Dean managed to keep a lot of things from his brother. One of the most infamous moments is, of course, Dean’s “no chick flick moments” comment. This is something Sam will learn to see through later but in this episode he seems to take it at face value along with many other aspects of Dean.

One other thing to mention about the plot of the episode itself. One of those is the destruction of the Welch family due to the mothers actions. She acted out of intense pain and betrayal but her actions do lead to her children suffering. This theme not only pertains to the Winchester family (Mary, Dean and Sam) but also to Sam, Dean and Jack in s14. This kind of familial pain returns, again, in s15.

And with that we have 1x01 in the bag. Next week we’re off to Blackwater Ridge in 1x02 Wendigo.

𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒏 / s.tranger t.hings timeline

this is just a general outline of where rory falls during the s.tranger t.hings timeline, events. obviously, more modifications will be added to it as headcanons and plotting form.

1953

project MKUltra is started by the CIA. experiments begin in hawkins, indiana.

callan and selene jett, a newly married couple move to hawkins. callan works as a young police officer. selene is a scientiest at hawkins national lab.

1959

REDACTED season 4 spoilers

1961

a sub-experiment to replicate subject 001′s powers on pregnant mothers begin.

selene jett volunteers for the sub-project.

1965

june 10th: aurora and alexander jett are born to selene and callan jett in hawkins, indiana. they are put in a normal, control environment to observe the natural progression of their powers, essentially allowed to grow up as normal children.

1969

dr. martin brenner arrives at indiana with kali prassad.

1973

project MKUltra is exposed and halted. observation on aurora and alexander halts.

1975

october 28th: aurora loses control of her powers and causes a housefire that takes her brother’s life.

selene jett leaves aurora and callan jett behind in hawkins and relocates.

aurora is unable to use her powers after the fire.

1983

november 6th: the gate to the upside down is opened by eleven in hawkins lab.

the bleeding effect of the other world into their world leads to rory’s powers reemerging. having been dormant for such a long time, they’re difficult for rory to access and use, and are severely underdeveloped.

november 7th: will byers disappears.

november 8th: rory joins the search party look for will ( likely joins j.onathan b.yers but they separate. ) b.arbara gets dragged into the upside down. rory is able to sense the opening of a portal to the upside down, but by the time she arrives to where the portal is, it’s closed, and barb is gone.

november 11th: rory attends w.ill b.yers’ funeral. she still can sense the heavy presence of energy, and goes to search for where she had previously found the demogorgon gate. rory encounters the demogorgon for the first time ever, and her powers are reactivated again for the first time since the housefire when she defends herself.

november 12: the last three episodes of season 1. up for plotting.

november 14: rory encounters el in the woods when she emerges from the upside down. ( maybe. up for plotting ) ***

1984

over the summer of 84′ rory start’s working at the local roller rink arcade. ( name pending )

rory picks up a couple of part-time jobs, including weekly visit to the hollands’ household to keep barb’s room straightened up. she babysits regularly for the byers’ as well, does gardening jobs for @gentsleuth, and other tutoring jobs. ( possibly helps summer tutoring for s.teve h.arrington and/or other characters )

rory maintains a good relationship with el, possibly behind hop’s back.

october 31: rory attends tina’s halloween party where st.eve and n.ancy fight.

november 1 - 5: dustin finds the pollywog and brings it to school the events of season 2 are up to plotting. some ideas include rory somehow finding herself in the the tunnels, encountering the demodogs with the babysitter group, keeping an eye out for el as she journeys out to find her mother, honestly any and all plots are open.

december 15: rory helps chaperone the hawkins middle snow ball.

1985

rory attends hawkins high graduation class of ‘85. ( note that she got held back twice after the house fire )

the arcade roller rink closes down. rory finds a job at starcourt mall as the sign spinner for the nut shack. job description entails rolling around on skates and handing out fliers and samples to mallgoer, spinning the sign in front of the restaurant. she hates absolutely every minute of it.

she regularly hangs out with robin and steve and her bestfriend @gallowes, sneaks out to the loading area to grab a smoke from time to time. she’s bad at her job.

as the gate experiment by the russians begins to open, rory is quick to sense it, likely chucks it to the volatile nature of her powers.

june 10: rory turns twenty.

june 28 - july 4: season 3 starts literally rory can be part of any crew during the event of season 3. we can come up with something new. all roads lead to rome, so as as she finally ends up at the battle of starcourt mall. like el, she gets to be able to use her powers, at a bigger scope than before, but unlike el her powers are not developed enough and again there comes a point where they fail her.

fall of 1985: rory starts as a freshman in hawkins community college. she usually attends night classes to accommodate her work shifts at local grocery store. the kids start their freshman school year at hawkins high. nancy wheeler starts her senior year )

1986

march 21: the events of season 4 begin.
