Yakuza Fiance ep 6 Manga Comparison
We are halfway through the anime folks. As always under the cut I have everything the anime missed out on from the manga. The scans are fantranslated cause I'm lazy.
First thing the convo between Tsubaki and Yoshino is framed in the manga as a flashback.
The convo is mostly the same but once more details are missed such as Yoshino determining that Kirishima seeing her then was 6 years ago.
We also loose out on this cute image
Now they then cut to the school where the manga picks up so I'm not sure why they removed the stare thing (I know the anime loves its dramatic stares) maybe for time?
Anyway the convo at school is much the same but if you thought that little stop Yoshino gave during her lecture was weird well the manga has an explaination
Like I don't get why the anime didn't put a text box or something they've done it before, its just kinda odd. (I dunno I honestly forgot about this during my first watch and was like "That was weird" I didn't get the reason for Yoshinos shock maybe thats just me though)
Ok so the scene is again mostly the same but the visuals when Yoshino realizes she's Kirishimas first friend is such a down grade in the anime. She just stands there and the word friend repeats in the background meanwhile the manga gives us this
Like we get this cute little slugger Yoshino, which I gotta assume is a reference to something, then we get a little montage of all the shit she's gone through its just very underwhelming by comparison.
So ok the Nao stuff first of all I wanna say the lighting is like off like its so bright the manga gives the impression of a more softer lit place so it feels more like a high class bar. Its not really a difference but it annoyed me and I am writing this haha.
The convo is much the same again with some small stuff cut, I'd say Naos internal thoughts are much meaner in the manga. They did change placement again though. When the other women bring up Kirishima in the manga Nao goes straight into flashback mode
It gives the impression that she is lost in thought and can't help thinking about him even though she's such a calculated person, this info gets put into the anime but it doesn't offer the same weight but I'll compare once there cause they made.....choices. But also it doesn't feel as abrupt when Kirishima shows up in the manga you get the impression Nao has been sitting silently for a bit. Not the "hey we were literally just talking about you" vibe the anime has.
So they put the flashbacks in when Nao is in the bathroom scene and they are framed a bit differently from the panel above (the sex thing is there just on another page so i didn't add it) So like instead of a scene in a bar or club where you assume they mightve talked about him before she approaches we get this
Which is like ummmm I don't actually know if the anime is trying to make a point or not, about the age difference or whatever
So like Nao panics more in the manga (and I really wanna make a post on this at some point so I won't get too in the weeds but) and we learn just how long it's been since she saw Kirishima (we do get him saying it was 3 years in the anime like the manga but honestly ya'll missed out on her panicked thoughts)
So it was three years ago Kirishima is 18 now meaning he was was 14-15 when they met which is why the scene in the anime is interesting. I think they thought rather than having nao say the time frame they thought to visually imply it by having her see him in school uniform which is a choice particularly with the girl she's with. Like we have a college freshman (probably she might be older) openly being like "wow arent those highschool freshmen so hot?" I dunno it's kinda funny.
But yeah anyway the manga gives us more detail into her thoughts and how she thinks about it (also did anyone else think the close up on the kiss was weird and it lingered too much?)
Anyway we get another loss of thoughts
Like nao is constantly thinking like this not sure how she'll come across in the anime honestly.
Anyway again convo is much the same only shortened, with Kirishima directly saying she acted more like a foreigner back then. But also when he leaves she doesn't look at the card in the manga, nor does Ozu show up to give an ominous stare (this adaptation and adding stares I swear to god)
Ok so this is something I mentioned in ep 4 but they took out how Yoshino has been planning a summer trip to Osaka for a while
Like this they also took out which leads into her cute hand binoculars (glad they kept it) and convo on the phone with Kirishima. Its another set up thing they dropped so it feels a little more random and convenient in the anime.
So the start of the trip is overall the same but again we loose some character beats
In the manga it feels like she pulls him before he gets shoved and we get explanation why he's never really been to Osaka and a cute culture clash moment.
Ok so this is weird we get the face but we don't get the context for it. Like this head thing felt so off to me when I first watched again maybe its just me.
That being Yoshino trying to play tour guide for Kisishima all while doing tasks.
We also loose out on the explanation as to why she's buying so much food and Yoshino getting a little nostalgic. These scenes also help to show that the roles have shifted with Yoshino being the knowledgeable one Kirishima has to relay on in a new city. We can kinda get the vibe in the anime but you really feel it in the manga.
I will say the scene at the Takoyaki store is pretty good in the anime giving some actually fun visuals and expressions.
So the scene with Nao and her coworker is longer in the manga the woman keeps complaining about various things and Nao is working overtime with keeping her composure
It actually showcases a lot of her personality with all the mental back talk she does so its a shame it was cut. Like I get it who wants to listen to someone humble bragging like this but it takes away from her character.
We also loose more of Naos thought process as she considers seeing Kirishima again due to this conversation.
Again I will likely do a whole thing just on Nao at some point but the anime skips over all of this and gets right to Ozu talk.
But once the get there ugh we once more loose some set up stuff
Again not having Nao think about Kirishima makes her contacting him seem a little less calculating and we loose the hint that Ozu was trying to contact Nao privately. The rest of the convo goes the same.
So we do loose some cute domestic stuff with Yoshinos arrival in the anime
Showing how she is with the gang members its not a lot but still.
So the room scene is pretty one to one which i am very grateful for its one of my favs. We do miss a small explaination about the keychain though.
No spoilers for anime onlys but be the fact that it feels heavy is important later. I will say the touch of doing a close up on Kirishimas hands as he holds it like he doesn't want to let go was really good.
So the walk is honestly well done in animation and I'm grateful to how they visually show Yoshino struggling to keep pace with the two but we do loose a Yoshino thought thats important.
Its kinda important for the arc as Yoshino tries to better understand Kirishima.
The store scene is very accurate and I love they kept the Shoma trying to sneak to drinks thing but we lost this dumb Shoma face
We then loose an inbetween scene of Nao meeting up with Kirishima before the hotel. It again serves to establish Nao as a character and her thinking.
Honestly this would have been better to end the episode on. Instead we get a very rushed Hotel scene.
And I do mean rushed, the tattoo talk is longer and helps to set a timeline for Kirishima.
Like im having such trouble picking things cause this scene is so much longer
They go into more detail about WHERE exactly they are going tomorrow which is set up. Then before he leaves to shower we get this back and forth where he explains she seems more like herself now.
Which then leads into the seeing the phone screen. It all gives the impression of two people who have history. But the anime is so rushed you can barely tell. I am really hoping for some brevity next ep cause it will have some scenes I really like.

Okay, I think this is happening -- I've been drawn in and I'm now rewatching The Prince of Tennis.
Thoughts on Episodes 2 through to 6 below.
Ep 2 - Samurai Junior
Inoue appears! This guy is so important for the audience as he explains so much tennis teminology to us (at Shiba's expense, whoops) but the fact that he works for a (presumably) well-known tennis magazine yet spends so much time covering the middle school scene is... odd. Like, he's there for the entirety of Seigaku's ranking tournament? What about the other Kanto schools?
HE TALKS ABOUT NANJIROU and says how Nanjirou 'might have even won the Grand Slam'. To my memory, Nanjiroh was one match away from becoming World No. 1 (is that possible without winning a slam?) but suddenly quit because, y'know. The boy.
Ryoma does this lil glower after the first time he meets Momo and it's so funny, lol
Ryoma's contrary nature is RIDICULOUS. Arai demands that the freshmen introduce themselves, which the Ichinen Trio do, but Ryoma? Just stands there. Like, CHILD. He asked for your name! these are not state secrets!
So of course, we have the whole thing with Arai trying to con the freshmen and Ryoma gets pretty mad about Arai trying to fleece the freshmen -- he gets pretty heroic (?) about the whole thing and, with it, very bratty: "If I hit the can 100x, do I get 100,000 yen?"
Then Momo is there and it really seems like he just wants to beat Ryoma up!
Rather adorably, Horio umpires the Ryoma v. Momo match. When Ryoma's about to serve, the Triple Counter OST starts playing (I really don't remember any of the titles from the OST -- except Yuugure -- but I'm sure everyone knows what I mean). It's very cool.
Tomo-chan sees Ryoma serve ONCE and calls him Ryoma-sama -- MY GIRL.
And then we get our first Nanjiroh appearance! And it turns out that he even has an umpire's chair at the temple, so? Who is umpiring his games against Ryoma? Nanako? RINKO??
Ryoma also tells the Ichinen Trio that he learnt to play tennis at a temple. Um. Ryoma is a big liar because he has only lived in front of said temple for about 5 minutes. What a DORK. In the best way!
(The temple is absolutely gorgeous by the way.)
Ep. 3 - The Seigaku Regulars Make Their Debut!
Man -- so we see Sakuno and Tomo-chan in one of the classrooms overlooking the courts and they comment on how cool the team is -- and then the camera pans up to Tezuka who's on the floor above, watching silently and I just enjoyed that so much. Like, at this stage, Tezuka is a bit of a mystery, so it's so fun!
Then Horio brags about how strong Momo is and Ryoma spends an eternity tying his shoelaces. Many moons ago (we're talking about 15 years ago, at least), I read this blog post about how much screentime is dedicated to Ryoma TYING HIS LACES and, honestly, I've never been able to get that post out of my head. Truly incredible stuff.
Guhhh I hate the obsession with heirarchy at Seigaku... Hyoutei and Rikkaidai are a heck of a lot more flexible, whoops.
Oishi! Beloved Oishi! Until he gets to the courts, the freshmen are just running around doing Tasks -- then Oishi arrives and tells them to practice playing because he wants them to get a good feel for the way things run at Seigaku. And it's so heart-warming! Oishi recognises that these kids are there because they want to have fun and he does these little things throughout the early eps to build camaraderie -- like when the freshmen are cheering for Seigaku in episode 8 or 9, Oishi teases, "Freshmen, we can't hear you!" and it's just... wow. Oishi's not there to pull rank: he's there to encourage the team. Tezuka honestly could not have had a better VC.
(I'm honestly just loving this so much... everyone's regarding Ryoma as this potential problem and sussing him out and being in this privileged position of knowing how much this team will grow to love him -- and how much he'll grow to love them -- is really special. It's really incredible to see this journey again.)
Arai behaves like a dork, gets scolded by Tezuka and told to run laps, questions this, and is then told to run more laps. Ryoma just dutifully runs his laps without any argument (the slight contradictions in his personality are so funny -- like he will sometimes rail against authority and, at other times, just accept it without question).
Come to think of it... Ryoma and Gon Freeccs get pretty similar treatment, I think, in that we don't get a look-in at their literal thoughts? Compare that to how often we're in Killua's head, for example, or Inui's or Oishi's or whoever's and... it's a very interesting way of storytelling.
Eps 4 & 5 - The One Named Viper & Snake Shot
AND SO, THE RANKING TOURNAMENT IS UNDERWAY.
Man, there are so many girls watching the ranking tournament? The tennis club is so popular lol
WE SEE RINKO FOR THE FIRST TIME. Of course, her face isn't shown, but!! She's there!
Ryoma's match against Kaidoh is a lot of fun. Momo's on standby to provide commentary to the Ichinen Trio (and they correctly determine that he's so knowledgeable about Kaidoh's playstyle on account of having lost to Kaidoh, which is hilarious). Ryoma impresses everyone by pulling off his own version of the Snake Shot -- the Buggy Whip Shot! -- and phew, good stuff. There's a lot of technical tennis talk.
(I hate how Kaidoh hurts himself at the end of the match. Both Kaidoh and Sanada need to be seen by school counsellors or something.)
I love seeing Ryoma get squashed by the Ichinen Trio -- he looks slightly bewildered, haha.
Ep 6 - That Man, Echizen Nanjirou
OOFT, probably my favourite episode so far! Nanjirou has become my second favourite in The Prince of Tennis (no prizes for guessing my favourite) and this episode is wonderful.
Inoue barges over to the Echizen house and ends up playing a game with Nanjirou -- the stipulation is that Nanjirou will only answer Inoue's questions if Inoue manages to get a point past him. Despite this, Nanjirou ends up telling Inoue a lot: he explains that he quit his pro career because playing with the 'impudent' Ryoma is a heck of a lot more fun than playing his pros and geez, Nanjirou loves his son SO MUCH. Nanjirou also explains that Ryoma's tennis style is currently identical to his and, to go further, there are some things Ryoma has to achieve. We get to see some of Nanjirou's skill.
The only question Nanjirou doesn't answer is when Inoue suggests that Ryoma's being trained to go pro. Nanjirou's pretty dismissive of this idea (AND WE KNOW WHY! YAHOO!).
Ryoma has a conversation with Sakuno and says that he doesn't know when he started playing tennis -- it's been part of his life for as long as he can remember and he couldn't quite even if he wanted to because there's something he has to do. So, once again, this episode sets up one of the major themes/conflicts of The Prince of Tennis.
(It turns out that the temple is behind the Echizen's house! Nanako -- the sweetheart -- explains that the monk is currently on a retreat and that Nanjirou just made a court without permission. This is one interaction I desperately want more information on.)
So... yeah. I'm genuinely having a whale of a time.
#the prince of tennis#echizen ryoma#(might as well tag him because i blabber about him so much here)#anime n manga

danny phantom episode 4-7 Thoughts: (under a readmore because, these got kinda long!)
-the outfit danny had to buy for dash's party. CLASSIC 2000S i cannot stop laughing. And also showing up to the party and everyone is dressed like the trio is hilarious. and further proof that everyone looks good dressed goth.
-dash has a closet full of cute lil bear plushies?? LOVE that. adorable. also his response to danny trashing his room fighting a ghost was SO valid if somone BROKE MY BED IN HALF ID BE PISSED TOO.
-technus being like 'oh smart, u should be a tutor!' then later being like 'forget tutor, be a teacher!' :) supportive king <3 I also really like his upgraded suit/design. AND SPOCK CAMEO??? HELLO??
-the music in this show is super. its so funky. I looked it up and the guy who does it, guy moon (awesome name) also did music for other cartoons like fairly odd parents, barnyard, chalkzone, billy & mandy, AND some actual movies like FIGHT CLUB??? the whiplash I got from reading that)
-sam being rich explains a lot about her, actually.
-I know the moral of the episode was supposed to be 'dont ditch your friends for popular people/spend a lot of money on clothes that arent You to Fit In'. but tbh. it wouldve been easy for danny to have been like 'well, okay, ill come but only if my friends can!' but I get. that hes 14. so. not a lot to say there.
-BOX GHOST IS BACK!!!!! also, danny sitting up and wearing the dress/wig/makeup. umm thats how I dress everyday LMFAO. unironically me. (hate the jokes that boil down to 'haha funney man in dress' tho. but this is a look)
-jazz being protective of her brother once again being like NOOO YOU GUYS BETTER NOT STAKE OUT HIS (actually haunted) LOCKER!! shes aware of how people perceive him and she wants to help :( which is also probably why she told dash to invite him to that party even tho she had no interest in going!! she wants to help him out :(
-gotta say im with tucker on the whole 'should danny use his powers to get back at bullies' debate. 100% yes. let him teach kids to fight back. making dash throw his food at paulina out of the blue? no. but when hes actually about to pick on someone? yeah! for self defense? YEAH! if dash and his friends just threw food at him, I think rather than. idk doing sneaky shit with frogs he couldve just threw it back and not pulled punches if they tried to fight. I kNOOWWW its a kids show so they are like 'if u fight back ur just as bad!! violence bad!!' but. theyre HIS POWERS. WHO CARES.
-like my only gripe is that dash really isnt LEARNING ANYTHING WHEN DANNY GETS BACK AT HIM IN THE MOST PETTY INDIRECT WAYS. whatever they had to add a bully psa episode I guess. I hate it and I hate the way cartoons usually handle it because these methods simply Do Not Work. 'aND YouRE USinG YOur poWErs FOR EVill???!' this is Not Evil. even when poindexter takes dannys body, theyre only being 'nice' bc hes stealing soda for them!! bitches deserve what they get (nothing too brutal bc theyre high schoolers but damn, if they pick on danny he doesnt need to be the 'bigger person' he needs to start biting people)
-SAM TRYING TO SMUGGLE FROGS OUT OF THE BIO LAB?? girl in middle school when we had to dissect frogs we could opt out, also, they came to us already dead and preserved...
-sidney's lingo and the fact hes in black and white is sending me. also, danny is a ghost celebrity apparently for being a halfa?? ok. thats interesting to know
-the DENTIST BEING EXCITED ABOUT THE COTTON CANDY FLOOD IS THE FUNNIEST THING SO FAR.
-I LOOOVE the trope of 'wishes gone wrong'. not crazy about the stereotypical genie, or the use of the dreamcatcher looking design. (also, I KNOW theyre scientists but the way theyre handling a cold...are the fentons ANTIVAX)
-the genie. she. whitewished paulina. JKASDFHKJ. (the ghost literally just being hello kitty???? im dying) 'why do i feel that im special and wonderful? because I AM! <3' paulina ilu self worth queen. felt bad for her also getting possessed by (2) boys later who were arguing INSIDE HER. WTF.
-imagine being the guy trapped in his now flying car. he thought danny and tucker were HALUCINATIONS. imagine being trapped in a flying car with two, what you think are imaginary arguing 14 year olds convinced ur gonna die. i WOULD say this dude is gonna need so much therapy, but he seemed totally fine and excited when they landed (I would be happy too if a chicken was on my head. chickens rule) stoner rights
-sam's bat slippers??? iconic. SO cute.
-I think desiree's backstory is so :( do all ghosts have messed up sad backstories?? poindexter's was sad too...cannot imagine box ghost has any kind of fucked up backstory. but what if. his mom got pushed off cliffs by boxes...........a la cruella... anyway her 'no man may lay a hand on me' iconic. ilu
-I know danny has no concept of how much bras cost but my god dont attack tucker with some girls bra. those are so expensive.
-its really. well its not a GOOD THING he went into the portal and got fucked up, but its good danny was the one to do it rather than sam or tucker. because even tho he was being influenced by desiree and kept getting more malicious and it prob wasnt 100% him...he sucked as a ghost like most the people he 'pranked' were innocent ppl just Chillin and he didnt want to help anyone at all. I think danny is the most responsible out of them but also, hes 14 and shouldnt HAVE to feel obligated to fight every ghost. hes a good kid and wants to, but I also feel like he feels like...responsible for the portal turning on?? because his parents did give it up,, but it was an accident and not his fault (if anything, why was the on switch on the inside. why was it that easy. why was there no safety measures. that seems like smth OSHA needs to hear about). like thats my son. hes a good boy. and hes never done anything wrong in his life, ever. if anyone hurts him im killing everyone in this room and then myself. etc.
-danny's curfew is 10PM????? DUDE. when I was 14...shit I couldn't be out that late, I had to be back at like, 8 at the latest, and my parents had to know exactly where and who I was going with, AND i had to call/text them regularly...is this a case of my parents being overbearing, or the fentons sucking??? the only time i could EVER be out that late was if I was at an overnight sleepover or smth...
-the vultures have lil fezes. why do they have fezes...theyre so fuckin funny 'ask him for directions' 'I KNOW WHERE IM GOING' these ghost vultures are my new grandpas. pick them up, put them in the adopt box.
-'I wonder why those guys were trying to waste dad!' THEYRE GHOSTS. YOUR DAD HUNTS GHOSTS. why is that not a conclusion you'd immediately jump to??
-*jazz voice, clearly disgusted* WISCONSIN???
-mrs fenton with the lab coat and leg warmers and PERM. YESSS STYLISH.
-was going to say 'ew billionaire' @vlad but. super valid he used his powers to assumedly steal and cheat to get that money, thats how all billionaires do it! but ew hes a SIMP. and spending your billions on FOOTBALL STUFF?? you are Not Valid overall. I DO respect the fact you have a castle instead of a mansion. in wisconsin. if youre going to be stupidly rich might as well go all out, torches on the wall and all. I DO like his ghost form's little kitty ears. catman. and his cape! every design can benefit from a cape. and how different his forms look, like danny looks the EXACT SAME IN BOTH FORMS ASIDE FROM COLOR CHANGES. vlad's is like,, I could believe they were different people!! also I love the drama. but dude you are fighting a 14 year old. lame. also he was like, telling danny he wanted his mom and him and like, wanted him to renounce his dad?? WHAT ABOUT JAZZ?? bitch. those r MY kids and they are both important and special. I do agree they need better parents but thats not u sir <3
-I thought vlad's 'little badger' nickname for danny came from the football mascot of the packers, but google says they have NO MASCOT?? so now I'm like?? is it because his hair is sometimes black and sometimes white?? I hate to give him props but thats a PERFECT NICKNAME. theyre also tiny and vicious!
-why did I get so excited that Skulker is back!! its been like. 2-3 eps LMAO. AND THE DAIRY KING. ICONIC I LOVE HIM. hes the nicest guy ever :) more nice ghosts please. danny cannot be fighting alone everytime with no ghost buds like every ghost being hostile sucks :(
-mr. fenton knew vlad was controlling him, but a few episodes ago he had no clue danny was doing the same thing...is it something about how malicious the ghost is?? he just seemed to think his memory had gaps the first time, this time he was INSTANTLY LIKE 'GHOST'. then again in this ep when danny did it again he was just slightly confused but not immediately freaking out like he did with vlad possessing him!!
-'my parents will accept ME NO MATTER WHAT' so. so why haven't you come out to them yet, danny?? if you really think that?? if theres no harm, and you're sure??? if vlad is a real problem, wouldnt that make dealing with him easier, to expose him???? SO WHY HAVENT YOU COME OUT YET?? COULD IT BE,, MAYBE YOU HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT WHETHER YOUR PARENTS ACTUALLY WILL ACCEPT YOU??? 🤔 ... 🏳🌈 I get why people say He Is Trans. I totally totally get u danny.
-sorta unrelated, but it just occurred to me in one of these eps they go to casper HIGH not casper middle school??? theyre 14?? dont highschools usually do ages 15-18? (I didnt go to hs so I might be wrong, if I am ignore this...) freshmen are usually 14-15, could just be a case of them not turning 15 yet but they will sometime in the school year (I say they because tucker said he was 14 too)? I know the show has 3 seasons, so by the end of it will they be older? thatd be neat but usually cartoon characters stay the same age...I love shows where you can see the characters age and grow up, though...three seasons seems like a long time to spend on like, 1 year...
#sanchoyorambles#danny phantom#me on the first post:#its not a liveblog!#me this time: it kinda is. but not in the same format as my tmm one#i like doing one post for a handful of eps bc it saves time#and crowds my blog less#and also i just like talking abt what im watching lol#dp thoughts

sotus the series ep. 15--finale
the fab five as freshmen?!!! hahahahahahaha
PREM WITH GLASSES??! NOPE DID NOT NEED THAT. i already love the guy, don’t need to add sexy glasses into the mix.
“After our last class ends, our seniors will wait for us at the door, and take us to get yelled at and punished. They will torture us in that room until they’re satisfied.”
oh bright, u never disappoint. aka a brief summary of the thai hazing culture.
this flashback...getting major déjà vu...
OH SNAP, KNOT
(he was seriously acting like how prem acted in the beginning--volatile and quick to anger and it’s just like...what the hell happened to knot to make him the calm, cool, and collected force that he is in his third year??)
ahhh, tum and fon as third years! and the story they recounted at their wedding!
“if you had to punish me right now, what punishment would it be?”
“i don’t know. i can’t just randomly punish people.”
“what about...shouting loudly that i love you three times? does that sound good?”
“you’re crazy, that’s funny.”
“you told me to do it before.”
...really had to try hard not to have my mind in the gutter here.
...the only indication we have that this is a flash-forward is that it says “Engineer 61″ and kongpob’s class were “Engineer 59″ (and arthit’s were “Engineer 57″...if u wanted to know these random, useless facts.)
first tew comes out, then m, then kongpob, THEN WAD??? then oak? aka the fab five version 2.0
OH WAD U’VE COME BACKKKKKKK U PRECIOUS BEANNN U
...man, still don’t like that faculty of engineering song.
this professor is still handsome
“I have my duty as head of the hazers. But I also have my duty...as your boyfriend.”
THESE TWO DORKS I SWEAR
“I miss you, Kong”
he called him ~kong, not his full name akdjdsklfjdkslfjdskf
wHYYY WOULD U LET HIM READ YOUR DIARY, KONGPOB??? it must be a cultural thing, or maybe i’m more of a private person, but ewwww, noooo. this honestly made me so anxious.
i love that they gave us so much fluff this last episode. is it disappointing that we won’t see the other two full years they were dating and going to the same school?? yeah, but i’m honestly okay with this flash-forward too. they had to establish arthit as a working man, and they had to establish kongpob as head hazer, and that was enough for one last ep. (i know we’ll get some scenes in the second season featuring their school days as a couple and that’s all i ask for--i’m okay with even just little snippets, i don’t need full episodes.)
---
i...don’t know if sotus s will be my next drama??? honestly so many things to watch, so little time. and i’m more excited to start My Engineer or Until We Meet Again, and SOTUS, unfortunately, didn’t end up being my favoritest drama i’ve watched so far, so i’ll put the second season on the backburner for now...SOTUS *might* end up in my top ten or top five favorite dramas, but i need to watch more than one or two BL dramas to really put it in any spot.
#sotus#sotus the series#asian dramas#thai BL#ramblings#...i honestly am unsure if i liked this drama or not#maybe...overall i did??#but it can't beat dark blue kiss or history 3: trapped#those two are perfection#but i do love the characters#so *shrug* idk#aNYWAY STILL SALTY ABOUT THE MISSED POTENTIAL THAT WAS PREMWAD#u cowards#they were giving me major sunmork vibes#AND THEN U DID NOTHING WITH PREM OR WAD#(...do they appear in sotus s?? i'm thinking they don't since it's arthit out in the real world and kongpob as head hazer)

As for how I got into the Bats, honestly I have to credit Jon Heder. He was talking about how he was on the show, and I got so interested, I knew I had to check it out. I still feel like a Newbie. I watched what I could of the show on YouTube (still waiting for S1 so I can actually see Eagleclaw haha) Their music always puts me in a super good mood. I cant even figure out what my fav album/song is because they're all so catchy and fun. 💕
The Aquabats!! You came into the fandom at a pretty good time actually! If you had started dabbling even a year ago, you would have found a dead, dead dead fandom.
After the show was cancelled and the 20th Anniversary Tour was finished, the band and fandom very quickly fizzled out (but it’s always been an in-and-out kind of thing, like the fandom will die for a few years, be brought back, then die again)
The fandom’s pretty dead these days but not DEAD because the band is making new content for the first time in years.
if you haven’t heard, there is a kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theaquabats/bringbacktheaquabats
They’ve met their goal, I’m pretty sure, and are planning on making 2 new albums as well as new The Aquabats! Super Show! eps. and other neat things. Honestly, I haven’t been paying attention to it, so I’m not sure what the detes are. But they are offering Official Cadet membership, for the first time in like 15 years which is a Big Deal™ because,,,, let’s just say there has been contention about the word “AquaCadet” in the past among old fans and new.
However, unfortunately, I’m not sure if season 1 will become available on YouTube anytime soon. The reason they started with season 3 was because after the show got cancelled from The Hub, there was no way for fans to watch it. No DVDS, no streaming service, and definitely no re-runs at 3am central time (I had zero sleep for a few months there while I was trying to catch The Thingy!). Honestly, I was half-worried some of the ip was forever in The Hub’s hands and it would never become available (even so, I wonder if there is a copyright issue even now since the Aquabats only release them for free on youtube, rather than DVDs, etc.)
But, since season 1 is available on DVD ($14 on Amazon!!) it would make sense to me that they can’t / won’t put it on youtube for free viewing? I don’t know for sure, but if it is financially feasible, I would highly recommend getting the DVD. There are a lot of commentaries, which are pure gold. You’d finally get to see Eeagleclaw! (which is worth it alone, trust me). The episodes are all fantastic and there are two different cameos from Weird Al. And StrongBad.
Plus! All the episodes are 10000 percent rewatchable. My freshmen year of college my roommate and I had viewing parties where we made all our friends watch it and it was so much fun to view in a group along with a bunch of friends who had no idea what they were getting into
When you do finally see Eagleclaw! let me know because you’re going to love it and the songs are catchy and Jon Heder is an absolute gem in it!!
#abats anon#the aquabats super show#my inbox#anon#im holding back on so many eagleclaw references bc i know you havent seen it so please let me know when you do see it#so i can open the flood gates of references#aaaaaaa

The 60 Best Metal Albums of 2018
2018 was such a huge year for metal, and I know that every year is great for metal with the abundance of fantastic artists big and small out there, but this year felt so big to me, perhaps because of so much of what the music this year was the soundtrack to, but also for the sheer number of unexpected masterpieces. This year I reviewed 170 metal albums, not including the 15 I briefly talked about missing in 2017, which is more than the total number of albums I even listened to across all genres last year, which is weird because I have actually been busier this year than last. But I am rather pleased with how much more I was able to immerse myself into metal this year, at all levels of accessibility, and given the fact that the coming year might come with some changes and limitations to my output, here’s to 2018, and the 60 incredible albums (LPs and EPs alike) that captivated me this year.
Also, this should go without saying, but this is not just my opinion, these are objectively the 60 best metal albums of the year, and if you disagree, well then you’re wrong.
60. Coheed and Cambria – Vaxis – Act I: The Unheavenly Creatures
I was expecting to kind of tolerate this one at best, which is weird because I enjoyed the band’s last album quite a bit. But this album took me on such a little nostalgia ride through my adolescence and the music I enjoyed at that time in my life. I’m glad I got an album like this that can make me look back at that part of my life fondly, because God knows lots of other stuff makes me look back with a little bit of shame.
59. Harm’s Way – Posthuman
A fresh batch of lethal Chicago hardcore with a modern update, no bullshit, no nonsense, just punishing, crushing, proficient metallic hardcore that adds to the genre’s growing dominance within metal.
58. Unearth – Extinction(s)
I was so glad to hear Unearth put out an honest, classic metalcore album (with a few modern updates as well) instead of following so many of their peers into the clutches of radio rock pandering, and Extinction(s) is an excellent example of the punch the mid-2000’s style can still pack.
57. XavlegbmaofffassssitimiwoamndutroabcwapwaeiippohfffX – Gore 2.0
I’m amazed a comical grindcore album actually had the content to sustain an hour’s worth of songs, both playfully mocking and proficiently conjuring the absurdly gory brutality of the genre on a tremendous variety of creative tracks whose impossible-to-articulate lyrics are well worth reading along with.
56. Bloodbath – The Arrow of Satan Is Drawn
Even performing below their peak form, Bloodbath is a force to be reckoned with in death metal, and The Arrow of Satan Is Drawn is a fine representation of their continued mastery of the genre. The slight drop in chemistry due to their less frequent and consistent output since Mikael Åkerfeldt’s departure can be felt a bit on this project, but even so, it’s a crushing album that I am glad to have from them this year.
55. Jesus Piece – Only Self
An excellent debut from the hardcore freshmen, Only Self isn’t the most adventurous of hardcore albums, but it sure hits the nail on the head and makes up for its lack of novelty with fiery performances.
54. Chelsea Grin – Eternal Nightmare
It was a quiet year for deathcore, but not a bad one, as Chelsea Grin made a resounding comeback of sorts after their lackluster 2016 album. Eternal Nightmare finds the band seemingly taking noted from the likes of Carnifex and Fit for an Autopsy, who all trimmed the fat on their respective deathcore styles and modernized their sound to help them stand out more.
53. Deadspace – Mouth of Scorpions
Any EP that makes this list must be doing a lot right to surpass so many other albums, and the three songs Deadspace bring to this album are among their best, returning after their slightly disappointing LP last year, to the potent DSBM that drew me to them in the first place. The band have announced a new album for early next year, and this EP has me rather excited for it.
52. Summoning – With Doom We Come
With Doom We Come was definitely one of the most interesting pieces of folk metal I have heard in a long time, with Summoning taking their winding, cinematic, Tolkien-inspired ambient approach over the course of eight songs. I liked the way the band was able to transform he central motifs they based the songs around in interesting ways for the extended lengths they took.
51. Panopticon – The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness, Pt. 1
The heavier of the two discs from Panopticon’s double album this year showed Austin Lunn’s slight imbalance in his compositional strength when compared to his second, folk-driven disc.
50. Machine Head – Catharsis
I know a lot of people hated this album for Robb Flynn’s preachiness before and during the promo cycle and on a few moments on a few songs on the album, but honestly, it really wasn’t that preachy when you actually got into the lyrics, and there were a lot of good deep cuts on the album that I kept coming back to. As a pretty big fan of Machine Head, I do agree though, yes, this is rather subpar for them given we’ve been blessed with a string of truly tremendous albums over the past decade or so. But this album’s weakness lies not in its “SJW-ness” or Robb’s politics. It’s an album that shows the band’s creativity wearing thin, which makes sense in the wake of Dave and Phil leaving the band a few months ago. Catharsis sounds like a very natural progression from the diversity of the incredible Bloodstone & Diamonds, just an unfortunately watered-down version of that album. Nevertheless, I think there is enough quality on Catharsis to consider it a good album, even it will naturally be outshined by The Blackening, Burn My Eyes, and Bloodstone & Diamonds.
49. Impending Doom – The Sin and Doom Vol. II
Deathcore album of the year right here; Impending Doom came back after a relatively long break, sanded off the rust, and picked up where they left off with The Sin and Doom Vol. II, an album of straight-up early 2010’s-style djenty deathcore bangers.
48. Wreck and Reference – Alien Pains
This surprise, four-track EP showed a lot of Wreck and Reference’s experimental sides within black metal, as well as their proficiency at industrial rock on the two songs in the middle. It’s definitely a thirst-quenching appetizer for whatever their next album might be.
47. Innumerable Forms – Punishment in Flesh
One of my favorite debut releases, Punishment in Flesh was in many ways this year’s answer to Primitive Man’s Caustic, not a cheap rip-off of that project, but definitely one that carries a similarly pessimistic and relentlessly sludgy atmosphere, although much quicker and less drone-y than Caustic often got. It’s a great start for this band and one that has me eager to see where they take their sound next.
46. Frontierer – Unloved
The Car Bomb comparisons this album has been piled atop with are certainly warranted, though I’m not sure I’d say Frontierer show the same knack for groove that Car Bomb did on their 2016 album. Nevertheless, Unloved is a properly punishing and comprehensive mathcore album. At just under an hour, the band prove they can still hold attention spans with the sheer madness they harness.
45. Thou – Rhea Sylvia
This was the third EP to precede the release of Thou’s full-length album, Magus, this year. I enjoyed the grungy twist the band took on their signature sludge sound, especially on songs like “Deepest Sun” with some sorrowful vocal harmonies that hearken directly to Alice in Chains.
44. Holy Fawn – Death Spells
Holy Fawn take an incredibly beautiful and extremely nature-inspired approach to the sounds of ambient black metal on this album. It’s a truly welcoming and meditative album, and one that I think makes a great case for the lighter side of black metal.
43. Judas Priest – Firepower
Judas Priest came back with such an unbelievably powerful classic heavy metal offering this year, indeed a late-career masterpiece and one that proves how passionate and talented the band still are. It’s an album that showcases their expertise with the style without coming off as joyless exhibition.
42. Thou – Magus
Thou’s full-length album of 2018 is definitely their most well-produced and sonically pleasing release with the way everything from the down-tuned guitars to the drums and bass are allowed to shine simultaneously to best represent Thou’s signature sludgy doom. Compositionally it’s pretty on par with most of their work in this lane too, but it’s really an album more about the thick atmosphere than anything else, and that it certainly delivers.
41. Halestorm – Vicious
Definitely my favorite straightforward hard rock album of the year, this record has so many tightly composed rockers, and with such a tasteful note of heavy metal, I couldn’t help but repeat so many of the songs on here throughout the year. It’s a bit inconsistent, but when it’s high its really high.
40. The Body – I Have Fought Against It, But I Can’t Any Longer
Finally, after a few poor splits and collaborations that made me more irritated than hyped for their following full-length, The Body did pretty well on their new, focused LP. It’s in many ways The Body as usual, but with a few new twists that make it an interesting experience and not just a rehash of previous efforts.
39. Echo Beds – Buried Language
It was a good year for experimental black metal, and this one was one of my favorite pieces of it. Definitely in line with Wreck and Reference, this album takes a slightly more industrial approach than W&R usually do, and it is a thrilling, interesting listen all the way through.
38. Mamaleek – Out of Time
Speaking of experimental black metal, Mamaleek continues to push the genre’s boundaries into more hushed, folky territory that still retains the sinister quality of the genre, and this is probably their most comprehensive foray into the black metal unknown, yet they sound so comfortable and confident doing it.
37. Wayfarer – World’s Blood
Another American black metal release, World’s Blood is a more standard display of the style’s post-metallic power, though with a subtle Western flair itself. With five focused, well-constructed pieces, it’s a pretty engaging listen each step of the way, and one that does well to highlight its subtle differences from the rest of the ambient black metal crop.
36. Deafheaven – Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
And on the topic of American black metal, we have the fourth album from Deafheaven, one that I was a bit confused with at first but still ended up loving for its nice representation of the band’s brighter side. It’s an album that reminds me so much of the love I have for certain people and how unperfect, yet precious and beautiful it is.
35. Behemoth – I Loved You at Your Darkest
Along with Deafheaven’s new album, this was probably my most anticipated release of the year, and as much as I knew it was likely not going to outdo The Satanist, I was pleased with how well this album continued from where Behemoth left off on that album. Channeling the same grand, biblical style of blackened death metal the band had found their sweet spot in, it came with a bit odder experimentation, but not enough to sink the album. Overall, it’s a respectable follow-up to one of the best death metal albums of the new millennium.
34. Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals – Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue
I like the angry death metal anarchy that Phil’s band conjures on this album. It and Phil’s unfiltered vocal aggression are a nice match for each other, and it makes for a wild ride all the way through. It’s definitely an album whose appeal is based on the rawness of its delivery, but it’s not just senseless cacophony; the band clearly know how to harness this type of death metal and let it rage on a long leash in their favor.
33. Keiji Haino & Sumac - American Dollar Bill: Keep Facing Sideways, You're Too Hideous to Look at Face On
This one is favorite collaborative release of the year with Keiji Haino and Sumac playing off each other’s respective styles so well, knowing how to ebb and flow within the waves the other creates, it’s a very noisy and odd release, but one that finds everything on here in such a complimentary form. I wish more collaborations in metal had this kind of well-worked chemistry between artists.
32. Of Feather and Bone – Bestial Hymns of Perversion
One of the year’s earlier and most punishing straight-up death metal releases, Bestial Hymns of Perversion is all meat, no fat, and such a quick, but ripping example of death metal at its rawest and most primal.
31. TesseracT – Sonder
As short as Sonder ended up being, I definitely found it to be a step up from Tesseract’s previous album, with the band doing well to craft the kind of shimmering progressive metal anthems that Daniel Tompkins can shine on.
30. Sumac – Love in Shadow
It was a good year for Sumac, coming through with a strong collaborative effort earlier in the year and then following up with their third LP. At only four songs, the album makes the most of the long time is has with each piece, and it’s one that I found myself coming back to so often throughout the year. I think the band outdid all their previous efforts, including their other collaboration this year.
29. Horrendous – Idol
Watching the evolution of Horrendous has been fascinating for the past several years, and seeing them transform into a fully-fledged progressive death metal juggernaut on Idol is one of the most rewarding sights to behold. The band channel raw, snarling growls and expert instrumental power on this album. The band still manage to retain their harsh, ugly roots, but pour that malice into a much more elegant form on this album, and I am definitely here for it.
28. High on Fire – Electric Messiah
It was a pretty big year for Matt Pike, and a major part of that was High on Fire’s follow-up to 2015’s Luminiferous. Taking a bit more of a proggy approach to their thrashy sludge metal worked out pretty well for the most part. It’s in many ways, High on Fire as usual, but also a more extensive application of their gruff, no-nonsense metal.
27. Portal – Ion
The wait between this album and their harrowing Vexovoid was well worth it as Ion captures the band’s most abysmal and spaciously apocalyptic sound in the form of chaotically collapsing technical death metal compositions that take a tremendous amount of listening to fully wrap one’s mind around.
26. Watain – Trident Wolf Eclipse
Watain’s long-awaited follow-up to The Wild Hunt finds them taking it back to basics in the shortest time frame yet, and as overshadowed as this album is likely to end up being next to albums like Sworn to the Dark and Casus Luciferi, it’s still a fiery piece of straightforward black metal that I have enjoyed all throughout the year.
25. Evoken – Hypnagogia
Definitely one of the most thrilling death/doom releases I’ve heard in a good while, Evoken go in for the long haul on this album and come through with a thick, well-cultivated atmosphere of gloom and remorse.
24. Thou – The House Primordial
This was he first-released EP leading up to Magus, and it did so well to concentrate Thou’s harsh black metal side into an interesting arrangement of songs that quickly establish a deep, sardonic atmosphere that takes that side of Thou to the extreme.
23. Thou – Inconsolable
The second EP of the three, and my favorite, is not really a metal album at all, but one whose sorrowful beauty I kept returning to. I love the vocal features the band brought on to give each of the moody, grungy songs on here a unique flair, and the band’s excellence with this softer style of music is incredible.
22. Architects – Holy Hell
One of the most triumphant metalcore albums I have heard in a long time, and one on which I think Architects managed to outdo themselves. Overcoming a crippling death to carry on with =, I think, their best album to date is certainly a feat to appreciate.
21. Sleep – The Sciences
This album took a while to grow on me, but grow it did, and I found myself enjoying and appreciating the thick walls of sound of a genre I had previously been apprehensive about. After finding the most fitting way to listen to this style of music, I can say now that I do enjoy myself some stoner metal.
20. Vein – Errorzone
Definitely one of the most punishing hardcore albums of the past few years, Errorzone is a bold amalgamation of nu metal and metalcore that takes the best of both worlds and smashes them together in an explosive array of violent noise that shoots Vein straight to the upper rungs of the genre.
19. Carnation – Chapel of Abhorrence
Another excellent debut album, Chapel of Abhorrence gave Bloodbath and Cannibal Corpse a run for their money with the dense brutality Carnation were able to conjure up on this album. Without any real notable weaknesses, this album is a tremendous opening statement for one of death metal’s most ambitious newcomers.
18. Polyphia – New Levels New Devils
This was such a fulfilling and unique math rock album that took the swagger of hip hop and made the band’s instrumental show-y-ness even cooler and flashier, elevating it above the autopilot mush of the style.
17. Hissing – Permanent Destitution
Another excellent debut album, this time channeling the experimental noisiness of black metal into a harsh, slightly industrially ambient experience that no other album has really ever captured before. It’s the kind of album that appears to be just standard abrasive black metal chaos on the surface, but the way the band work with so many different musical ideas and swirl them round so well o this album is what makes it so intriguing.
16. Imperial Triumphant – Vile Luxury
And on the topic of intriguing music, Imperial Triumphant come through with one of the most uniquely blues-y, jazzy incantations of death metal this year. Taking the eerie dissonance of traditional jazz and mashing it together with the apocalyptic sounds of death metal to convey the metropolitan filth of the Big Apple.
15. Andrew W.K. – You’re Not Alone
This whole album is the injection of positivity metal needed not just this year, but more of in general. While it’s on the borderline between hard rock and heavy metal, I still found it to be a refreshingly uplifting and encouraging set of songs that embody the type of positive outlook on life that I think needs more endorsement in heavy music. And of course, it opens with my song of the year, “Music Is Worth Living For”, which just perfectly captures my deep love and appreciation for music, which the rest of the album continues unashamedly.
14. A Perfect Circle – Eat the Elephant
Eat the Elephant was a lot softer in most parts than I and a lot of fans were expecting, but A Perfect Circle really proved that their return to music was really based on artistic inspiration and not financial desperation with the evolved and magnificently cohesive sounds they traversed on the album’s various tracks.
13. Infernal Coil – Within a World Forgotten
So many strong debut albums this year, and Infernal Coil’s was definitely one of my favorites. Channeling the heaviest side of Leviathan’s menacing and abysmal depressive black metal, Infernal Coil conjures a short, but enthralling experience on Within a World Forgotten. It’s one that I continually return to for its massive, abusive heaviness and one that makes me eager to see how Infernal Coil continue to shape their sonic identity in the years to come.
12. Obscura – Diluvium
As much as I like Obscura, I was surprised with how comprehensively thrilling Diluvium was. Wrapping up all the musical ideas that have enhanced the group’s progression through the years, the same band that made the stunning Akróasis return with clearly developed chemistry to expound upon their previous work
11. Ghost – Prequelle
It took bit of adjustment from what I usually enjoy about Ghost’s music to appreciate this one. It felt so off at first, but after a while the extra extra cheese melted over this album is really just the very essence of Ghost taken to such a campy and unpredicted extreme, and it is all executed so tactfully and brilliantly underneath the album’s fun externa.
10. Alrakis – Echoes from Eta Carinae
It’s one single song, but I chose not to include it on my top songs list because it would be redundant talking about it here too, and I did want to express its greatness in the context of its comparison to other albums. However, this song, unlike most extensive proggy epics, really is one long, sprawling piece that takes its time to push and pull and really swirl in a well-thought-out aura of ambient black metal that manages to stay fascinating all throughout its one-of-a-kind ride.
9. Anna von Hausswolff – Dead Magic
I know this one’s not really super metal, but the thick sets of horns, organ, and tom drum beating against the gothy appeal and dark ambiance Anna von Hausswolff constructs is something I have been enjoying so thoroughly this year, and for many of the same reasons I’ve enjoyed so much of the dark ambient metal on this list.
8. The Atlas Moth – Coma Noir
This was such a fulfilling album that captured the ascension of the band’s evolution beyond standard post-metal-flavored blackgaze and into a realm all their own. The grooves on here, the sludgy riffs, everything about this record from a stylistic and compositional standpoint was so satisfying as an elevation of the band’s sound.
7. Rivers of Nihil – Where Owls Know My Name
Such a breath of fresh air for technical progressive death metal and such an exponential continuation of growth for Rivers of Nihil, the pure emotion this album is album to pack into such an ordinarily soulless genre is something to behold and something I have loved relistening to all throughout the year. As nuanced as it is, it sacrifices nothing in the way of death metal brutality to get there.
6. meth. – I Love You
This has been by far the most criminally underrated debut by any band this year. Although only a five-song EP, the band showcase such a compelling excellence with the harsh, abrasive chaos they wrangle on here, mashing the harsh blackened noise of a band like Full of Hell with the whopping hardcore punch of the kind of metalcore pioneered by Converge and recently enhanced by groups like Code Orange. These few short songs are all such an incredible display of prowess with a bold blend of styles that makes meth. THE band to keep an eye on for future releases.
5. Revocation – The Outer Ones
Revocation quite possibly outdid their already phenomenal discography on this album with a shift in focus toward cosmic technical death metal while still maintaining a firm grasp on the thrash roots that have given their music the grounded appeal in delicious riffs and solos. The Outer Ones is such a tremendously technical yet tasty release, I have been so thoroughly enjoying it this year. I love all the delicious guitar work and tasteful bass on this album and of course the magnificent drumming too, it’s all so awesome. Hell yeah Revocation, hell yeah!
4. Gevurah – Sulphur Soul
After a strong enough debut in 2016, Gevurah made an even more emphatic perfection of their blackened death metal sound that rivals in-form Behemoth on this four-track EP. Somehow without simply aping the Polish giants’ sound, Gevurah manage to capture the grand carnal essence of albums like Evangelion and The Satanist in a few sharp pounders boiling with cultish aura to give the band’s ravenous death metal a sophisticated lining.
3. Zeal and Ardor – Stranger Fruit
I was completely and pleasantly surprised with the thoroughness and the quickness of the band’s remedying of the flaws the held Devil Is Fine back, while pushing their sound forward with confidence and justified assuredness into bold new territory, coming through with so many incredible and diverse songs. This was exactly what I wanted from Zeal and Ardor, and I’m amazed I got it so quickly after their debut last year.
2. Daughters – You Won’t Get What You Want
Such a hellish and truly terrifying comeback album that shatters expectations or boundaries set by the band’s previous work, this album has such a primal and theatrical appeal to it that really works its way deep into the psyche and exposes the darkness in all of us, which is catalyzed so fearsomely by the unreal harsh noise across the album that the band so neatly and meticulously weaves into their performances. This album really captures the darkness of the human condition and the degree to with civilization has enhanced, rather than mitigated it. I love this album; it’s like nothing else I have ever heard.
1. Khemmis – Desolation
My Twitter fed and my songs-of-the-year list definitely gave this away, but Khemmis’ third album, Desolation, is far and away the most perfect album I have heard since Gojira’s Magma in 2016, and definitely my favorite album of the year. This album is just dripping with catharsis at every step of the way, and I have not been able to resist it all year since hearing it. From start to finish, it is nothing but raw, emotive heavy metal with a somber doom edge that the band still manages to twist into something incredibly triumphant. I cannot give this album enough love. After sitting with it for so long this year, I can say it is undoubtedly an unprecedented improvement upon the already excellent Hunted, and one that established Khemmis as heavy metal’s most exciting new band.

This is an appreciation post for Taylor Swift, Taylor's debut album. I feel as though it never gets the credit it deserves and when articles talk about Reputation, it's considered her "5th album."
But listen to this: Taylor was 16 years old when this album was released. I'm going to say that one more time, Taylor was 16 years old.
Taylor wrote the majority of her debut album her freshman year of high school. Just let that sink in. Think about the lives of most freshmen in high school. Instead of going out and causing trouble or getting drunk or whatever else she could have done, 9th grade Taylor was writing songs for her first album.
And if that's not enough to impress you, here's more information about the success of 16 year old Taylor's very first album:
All five singles released are certified platinum.
They all charted on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
The third single, Our Song, reached number one on the billboard chart, making it Taylor's first number one.
It was praised by critics, who applauded Taylor for possessing so much talent at such a young age.
It launched Taylor's career, giving her recognition as an artist.
In the United States, it topped the Top Country Album chart for 24 non-consecutive weeks.
It was certified 5 times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling over 5 million copies.
It had spent 275 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart as of early 2013. (Which means that number is definitely higher by now.)
It was successful in many other countries as well and as of January, 2015, it had sold more than 6 million copies. (The number would, again, be even higher now than it was then.)
It marked the longest stay by any album released in the decade on the Billboard chart.
After topping Billboard's Top Country charts or 24 weeks, it was only replaced by Beautiful Eyes, Taylor's EP, and it remained charting at number 2.
With both Taylor Swift and Beautiful Eyes, Taylor became the first artist to hold the top two positions on the Top Country charts since LeAnn Rimes in 1997.
Taylor accomplished all of this with an album that she released as a 16 year old. These were songs that she wrote her freshman year of high school at age 14/15. If that's not talent, I don't know what is. @taylorswift

Two things…
One: consider jazz skipped a grade because she’s so smart
Two: is Claw of the Wild another summer cause I thought it was??? So are they technically seniors at the end of the series??? What’s going on???
Why does everyone assume that Jazz is a junior? I turned 16 in my sophomore year and so did all of my classmates. None of us skipped a grade, and I knew one or two kids that just happened to have an August birthday who turned 16 before school started that year. My birthday was in November so I was 16 for 6 months of my sophomore year. If you skipped ahead two years, that would put me and all my peers at turning 18 in 12th grade, before we graduated. Which means we were 18 as seniors. Following this logic, Jazz would still be in high school for that jump. I recall Jazz talking about going to college, which is normal for seniors, especially in today’s age when high schools work college applications into the curriculum. So that time jump is still entirely possible within canon, with her still in high school.
I started high school at 14 (and turned 15 later in the year), which meant that I always assumed Danny was a freshman like I was. Pretty much every freshman at my school was the same age as well. There’s the occasional exception, but for the most part, 14 year olds, if they’re in high school, are freshmen. Meaning that if we jumped ahead two years, Danny would be a junior at 16, going on 17. (That’s also assuming that his grades haven’t dropped so low that he can’t move to the next grade.) So it’s not as severe of a jump as y'all are saying.
As far as Claw of the Wild, I thought it was a school trip. Lancer was there, and so was the PE teacher, and Dash and the other jocks were wearing their letterman’s jackets. I remembered that in another explicitly summer episode Dash didn’t wear his jacket when he was just walking around, though that may be wrong. At my school there’s a lot of field trips out to forested areas but maybe that’s just a thing we did. When I was a senior we did a three day trip to this wooded area by the coast, and we were taught how to read a map, how to take measurements of PH levels in water, and how to use a compass. Stuff like that. In my school district most fifth graders did a similar thing (but my class was excluded without exception, for no reason. So I didn’t get to do it in fifth grade). Maybe I’m just jumping to conclusions but the likelihood of every single kid in the same grade attending the same summer camp that’s also counseled by two teachers and no one else is a little coincidental. It seems more logical to me that it would be a school trip.
For Claw of the Wild, I just remember it being mentioned that they’re there for like 8 weeks which is typically summer vacation length. And i just went back and watched the beginning of the episode and yeah Sam does say summer camp and Danny mentions being stuck with everyone for 2 months. It could be a school related thing. Especially if they are indeed going into their senior year, it’s likely it’s some senior class trip thing.
So okay yes three summers do pass by throughout the series…..so where is my character development and outfit updates and the trio celebrating each other’s birthdays and more halloween eps okay we were deprived of so much potentially quality content
I know fruity already said that the material should speak for what’s canon itself, and it should.
Anyway y'all ever remember that Butch had the audacity to include potentially 3 summers in this show and then claim that Danny turned 15 after the events of Phantom Planet.
idk all the characters also have freaky superhuman strength so I don’t think you can apply real world logic to a cartoon. :b
@imekitty how dare you try to tell us to not apply logic to a cartoon, cartoons are hella factual
I had to trim this bc oh boy it getting long
But my entire existence relates to applying real world logic to cartoons.
It’s fun uvu
On the subject of canon Vs fanon
Canon:
Dash calls Danny a twink
Danny has only ever used telekinesis to pick up a rake once in his (after)life
Danny logically has to be 16 at least by The end of the series because two summers have passed (reality trip and identity crisis)
Danny had/might still have freckles
The Fenton hazmat suits have hoods which appear whenever handy (never seen w/Danny’s but it’s present in every other suit shown)
The suits also have guns built into every single joint and available surface.
We all remember Maddie’s blue suit w/orange oggles but do y’all realize Jack has a complimentary orange suit with blue goggles?
Danny somehow forgets all about Youngblood in the space of 2 (two) episodes to the point where he doesn’t even recognize him.
Fanon:
Youngblood died young
Sidney was a victim of suicide
Ember died in a fire (this one is iffy due to a writer “confirming” the story but I’ve never seen actual proof)
Basically any specific cause of death besides Desiree (who was said in show to have died of a broken heart and old age) is fanon
Blood blossoms hurting half ghosts in human form is 100% fanon. As proven by Vlad (in human form) being not affect whatsoever when shoving Danny (ghost form) into a ring of them.
On that note blood blossoms (if Vlad’s comparison is sound) are actually not all that deadly, just painful as hell. (He relates them to a primitive specter deflector of which he had locked around his waist for an undetermined amount of time with little to no permanent damage we know of)

Q & A with Winski
Winski is a band that identifies as pop-punk/emo/indie band from Buffalo, NY. The band just released a list of tour dates for Spring 2018. Later this spring or early this summer, the band plans to release their second EP, which is an anticipated follow up to the band’s first EP, titled “The Secrets to Self Doubt.” I was happy to have the opportunity to catch up with the guys to ask them some questions about their anticipated release, inspiration and plans for tour.
When did you first get into playing music? What musicians/bands influenced you when you started writing/playing music?
Ed – I started writing music for the first time my freshman/sophomore years of college. Music has always played a huge part of my life, I actually took choir growing up. Musically, influences are all over the place, grew up listening to Alexisonfire, taking back Sunday, armor for sleep, Billie Joel, countless other amazing artists.
Joe – I started playing drums and taking lessons when I was 11 but didn’t join a band until freshmen year of HS. When I first started making music I guess I drew influences from mostly punk bands like NOFX, A Global Threat, AFI, Alkaline Trio. Early 2000’s stuff.
Noah – I started playing music when I was 12, and got my first Electric Bass when I was 16. Some of my biggest influences when I began were Green Day, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights, and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus to name a few.
Jason – I started playing piano when I was 7 and got into guitar when I was 13. I grew up on pop-punk from my sister Green Day, Coheed and Cambria, Sum 41….Progressive rock like Rush and Yes from my Dad and folk and classic rock from my mom like Eric Clapton and Neil Young. When I was 13 and started playing guitar I drew most of my influences from American and Scandinavian metal music. Bands like Darkest Hour, In Flames, Entombed, At the Gates.
What are some of your biggest influences, currently? Ed – Biggest influences, currently. Dang, that’s tough. I guess you can say struggles of everyday life. Struggles of having the biggest obstacle in your life being yourself. As far as music influence goes, I don’t think my music taste ever adapted, still listen to the same music on repeat honestly.
Noah – Some of my biggest current influences are The Early November, Bright Eyes, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Chase Huglin, Casey Bolles, Real Friends, The Wonder Years, and Polar Bear Club to name a few.
Jason – Currently I draw from Shoegaze and Atmospheric Black metal. I like the wall of sound these bands create. But my favorite bands still incorporate catchy riffs. Alcest, Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch, Life On Venus etc. Also Disney movie soundtracks inspire me.
How has your sound evolved from your first EP to the one you are currently working on? Having a full band really behind me for the first time. Joe and Jason added a lot in their time since summer and I’m incredibly thankful to have them both. Noah was a very recent addition on bass and backup vocals and he made an immediate impact, holy cow
What was the inspiration behind the new EP? Are there any recurring themes, or are the songs separate ideas from one another? Every song really has its own theme, but can somewhat be blended together. We decided to name this release Enola, which is kind of used to signify the struggles from front to back of being alone, fighting that feeling, and trying to salvage what you can. Each song has its own meaning, and that could go on forever.
When can we expect the EP to be released? Hopefully late spring, early summer!
Is there anything else we should know about the EP release? We’ve actually teamed up with the The Mental Health Association of Erie County, for this upcoming release, and are going to be donating a portion of all proceeds/ sales directly to them. We are extremely excited about that.
Do you have any upcoming tours/shows coming up?
Yes! We have a 15 day tour booked up and down the east coast throughout March. Then we are fortunate to share the stage for Ashes EP release at stamps in Tonawanda NY. We are a little off genre, but this show is going to be incredible.
Are there any cities you’re hitting that you didn’t get to play on your last tour? Any places you’re excited to see/play? Last time we were supposed to play Statesboro GA, shout out to the homies in Birdperson if they’re reading this. We blew two tires on the way, were 3 hours late, and people were still hanging out and WANTED us to play acoustic, it was our first acoustic show as a band, ever. So excited to actually play there, fingers crossed.

Boise State gets a transfer from Oregon — and she's from a famous family BY RACHEL ROBERTS [email protected] LINKEDIN GOOGLE+ PINTEREST REDDIT PRINT ORDER REPRINT OF THIS STORY May 03, 2018 01:27 PM Updated May 03, 2018 04:48 PM One of the first players off the bench for the Oregon women's basketball team during the Ducks' run to the Elite Eight announced Wednesday night she plans to transfer to Boise State. Mallory McGwire, a 6-foot-5 sophomore from Reno, Nev., started 19 games for the Ducks in 2017-18 and averaged 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game. "We are excited to have Mallory join our program," Boise State coach Gordy Presnell said. "On the court, she is a terrific player who will fit in to what we do and hopefully help us get to another level. Off the court, she comes from a wonderful family and is a very high-character student-athlete whom everyone will enjoy being around and getting to know. She is a great addition to the Bronco Family." McGwire is the daughter of former San Diego State and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Dan McGwire. Her uncle is Mark McGwire, a longtime first baseman for the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals and current bench coach for the San Diego Padres. Morgan just finished her career at Santa Clara. "I want to say thank you to the University of Oregon, the coaching staff and my teammates for an amazing past 2 years," McGwire wrote on Twitter. "But I am thrilled to announce I will be joining Boise State University for the remainder of my basketball and academic career."
