Hi this is Paw with more ideas WRT the regency AU. I think Lethica should have the AESTHETIC of a despot but actually be very fair and just and kind and it is Doing Things to Marius. Like what if she was a despot...to HIM? Haha jk. Unless?

This is the miracle of au's my friend, where two branches stem from one path.

On one, Marius and Lethica have a power imbalance but otherwise kind and fair relationship

On the other Queen Lethica is the Duchess and Marius' favorite color is red :)

Heads Up Seven Up/Last Line Tag

I got tagged in both of these by @mysticstarlightduck (seven up) (last line). Also it's gonna be another late night WIP Wednesday for this fic. And yes, sorry, it's fic but this is going to be my life until like early September!!

This isn't the exact last thing i wrote, but I ended up combining two bits and I forgot where i left off on Monday, so here's the end of Ch31 since I'm not cleaning it up like i'm supposed to.

He hesitates then asks, “Miss Hawthorne, do you know how Melissa Foster is?” 

Iris freezes. Slowly, degree by painfully miniscule degree, she looks at him over her shoulder. “Come again?” 

“Melissa Foster.” He doesn’t need his magic’s buzz at the back of his skull to tell him he landed on a target. “Can you tell me who she is?” 

“How do you know that name?” Her voice is low and cold as she turns fully to face him, her shoulders squared as if prepared for a fight. 

“It came up in one of Lord von Karma’s case files,” he says, which seems like the most likely cover up to saying that the spirit of the man told him to ask.

Her slate gray eyes hold him steady and Miles thinks this might actually be the dark heart of Iris Hawthorne, finally revealed after too much insensitive prodding. “It would be best if you forgot you ever heard that name,” she whispers. “I’m sorry, but I don’t have anything to tell you.” 

With that, she whirls about and flees into the house without a proper goodbye. 

Interesting, von Karma muses, and Miles knows with sinking clarity that he will never be able to forget the name now.

This makes me think of an EOM regency au where Marius is gifted to Lethica I'm going too deep again

On a much lighter note. A scenario I've been picturing is Marius offhandedly mentioning that part of the duties of a good knight is to. Ahem. Service their royals. And his friends are like What. You had sex with King Victor? And Marius is like no no no sex is dirty and makes me feel worthless, assisting my King always made me feel good :) and they're like Holy Shit.

EOM Regency Au anyone?

No I don't know anything about actual historical regency stuff, shut up this is my tapestry to weave

Featuring:

Queen Lethica: She became Queen through totally legal means and not faking a religion and manipulating the previous queen into a secret relationship before forming a coup and taking the throne

Court Jester Jericho: He's here, he's probably queer, it's our favorite wet cat man, Jericho. Lethica found this urchin through the candidate for her advisor, she was enamoured with his silly little songs and jokes and decided she wanted to keep him.

Royal Advisor Virgil/Raum: He's along for the ride, free from his father, Grand Duke Pazuzu, and making sure his charity case (brother) doesn't go getting himself killed.

Honorary Count Briggsy: Lethica and him have a deal, he gets to enjoy high society, she gets someone to control the criminal underworld

Executioner Yorgrim: He's here to kill criminals and atome for his past. Lethica is helping him get a leg up in life.

Royal Doctor Farryn: Who else to play doctor than our resident Satyr? She's here because Lethica promises to fund her research into the illness that took her wife from her

And last but not least, Royal Guard Marius: Marius was a gift from one King Victor, Lethica accepted him with open arms as Victor was forced to walk away from his brother forever. Definitely no forbidden love happening here! No matter how much Lethica likes seeing her *PERSONAL* knight on his knees ;)
