“I need you to check on my little sister,” she’d said. “I don’t trust Lucifer enough to ask if he even knows about her, but you. I have a pact with you. I can command you to not hurt her or get her hurt. I can trust you.”

Trust. Weird way to describe a pact bond, but alright. Gave him an excuse to go to the human world, and maybe if he was clever with spending the money Pandora gave him to take care of Enyo, he could keep the change for himself. Plus, it wasn’t near the worst kind of thing he got ordered to do; maybe a little annoying, but not painful.

Yeah, he thought that until the kid went for his ankles with a baseball bat.

“Fuck!”

A teenage human’s strength isn’t nearly enough to hurt a demon badly, but the shock? The humiliation of being caught off-guard by a human that wasn’t even fully-grown? That hurt.

“What is your problem?” Mammon jumps back, sucking in his breath.

“You’re the one that broke into my apartment!” Enyo holds the bat at the ready, glaring. “What’s your problem?”

Mammon hops on one foot, rubbing his sore foot and muttering. “Yer fuckin’ sister is my problem now thanks to Lu– YOW!”

She had swung with all her might at his stupid grumpy face, furious. “You tell me where my sister is right now!”

“I swear to Dad, kid, if you broke my fuckin glasses–“

“If you hurt my sister I’ll break them some more and shove them up your–“

Mammon growls, frustrated. “I didn’t hurt her! She’s fine! Fuck, you humans are are so fuckin sensitive–“

“Bold of you to assume I’m human.”

That gets Mammon to shut up long enough to squint, reflect on whether or not she smelled human (she did), and roll his eyes. “Whatever. Talk as big as you want, kid, I don’t care. I’m just here to make sure you didn’t keel over and die.”

“I will crunch on your bones like I crunch weights. Tell me where Pandora is!”

Mammon groaned. “She’s fine, she’s in the Devildom– well okay that sounds bad but she’s not dead, she’s there to be an exchange student, so we gotta make sure she doesn’t die. So she’s fine. She’ll stay for a year and then we’ll be out of your hair and neither of you ever have to bug me again.”

Enyo’s face grows pale. “Oh… my God. That was real?”

“Eh?”

“The application!” She lowers the bat, running her free hand through her hair. “I thought that was a joke! Or an ARG or something. She’s… she’s actually in Hell and it’s my fault.”

“Okay, first of all, it’s not Hell, it’s really annoying that you’d say that. It’s where demons like me live.”

“Well I’m not calling it the Devildom, that’s a stupid name.”

“Oh yeah?” The longer this little twerp refuses to take him seriously, the more frustrated he’s gonna get. “As if Human World is any better?”

“We don’t call it that though! At least normal people don’t.”

“Well what do you call it?”

“Earth?”

“You named your dirt planet Dirt. So get off my case. And second of all, what are you talkin’ about? What application?”

“The exchange program application Pandora got in the mail.” Enyo grips the bat in both hands now, raising it again.  “I didn’t think– I filled it out for her, I thought it would be funny– and now she’s gone and it’s my fault–“

Curse his big brother instincts for kicking in. Mammon takes a step closer and lowers his voice. “Hey, it’s okay– geez, put that down–“ He raises his hands, taking a step back– “I’m not gonna hurt’cha.”

“Bring my sister back,” she growls.

He really, really didn’t want to think about the pang in his stomach. “I… really can’t.”

“You took her away, you can bring her back!”

“It wasn’t my idea!” He’s raising his voice again but he’s too miffed to care. “It was Diavolo’s, and it was Lucifer that picked her, I just got stuck babysitting her and now you thanks to her damn pact.”

Enyo squints, not letting her guard down. “Pact?”

“Yeah– like a deal.” Ugh, now he had to explain simple shit to twice as many humans. “We’re bound to each other and she can give me orders that I have to follow. One of which was to make sure you’re okay while she’s gone.”

“She didn’t, like… trade her soul, right?”

“Huh? No– that would’ve been a great idea but I got tricked into the pact idea,” he trails off into a grumble, “stupid Levi, stupid human holding Goldie hostage–“

“Goldie?”

Still grumbling, he answers, “My credit card…”

Enyo’s stance relaxes, and she drops the bat to her side. “That’s… too fucking funny to be fake, that sounds like exactly the kind of trouble Pandora would get into.”

“It wasn’t funny! It was– ugh, nevermind, I don’t care. My job’s done here, you’re not dead so I can go home.” He pulls the pouch of grimm out of his pocket and tosses it at Enyo. “That’s for bills and food, I’ll see ya later.”

Enyo catches the pouch, opening it up and examining one of the gold coins. “What the fuck are these?”

Mammon processes for a moment, then slams both his palms against his forehead. “GodDAMMIT I knew I forgot something on the way! You need it converted to Human World currency!”

“You were just gonna let me go to WalMart with pirate coins?!”

“They’re not– URGH! Give ‘em here, I’ll sort it out.” He takes the grimm back, cursing. “I’m gonna have to go back to the Devildom to do that, and then Pandora’s gonna be on my ass, and– ugh.”

Enyo puts a hand on her chin, thinking. “I mean. You don’t have to tell her.”

“Eh?”

“Yeah. I can last for another week or so; just hang out for a while and bring me the money next time she sends you.”

Mammon mulls it over. Is there any possibility that he could keep himself from spending the cash on himself before he saw the kid again? Don’t get him wrong, he really wanted to do that, like really really wanted to. But then he’d have to chance letting this kid go without food...

“Not… the worst idea, kid.”

“You can call me Enyo or I can crunch your bones,” she says casually.

Mammon snorts. “Sure, whatever. So… I hang out here, you don’t snitch to your sister?”

Enyo looks him up and down. “…Can you make dinosaur chicken nuggets?”

“Uh… sure?” He has no fucking idea what those are. Aren’t birds dinosaurs? Isn’t dinosaur chicken a bit redundant?

Enyo nods solemnly. “Then I’ll allow you to stay, for now.”

Turned out he could make dinosaur chicken nuggets– not that he ever doubted!!– they were just frozen dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets that needed heated up. Even better, Enyo was really funny to talk to– a little bit scary, peppering the conversation with ominous implications of her power and threats far more bizarre than her sister could ever come up with, but so entertaining. And… she clearly missed her sister. And in retrospect, he could see how much her sister missed her. When he finally left for the Devildom, he made a mental note to be a little nicer to Pandora.

Yeah that lasted for a solid ten seconds because as soon as he got home Pandora ran to excitedly show him a spider she’d found in her room.

I don’t think Lucifer hates Enyo back. She’s 16 she’s literally a baby, she’s got valid reasons to be mad about her sister being kidnapped to hell without warning. Plus she’s also Lilith’s kid, she’s family. She’s the baby.
