Etoiles: Something that makes me laugh a bit is the fact that because there’s so many open plotlines it leads to fan theories that are sometimes really fun. There was a moment when my character’s skin, well, it was made for me with white eyes. And well I used it because I found it cool. And, actually, when I put it on, I read 65 tweets from people going, ‘hey, did you know that Etoiles’ character is blind because he actually lost his eyesight because he was—‘

Antoine: But you know on this server, the moment you say any sentence it gets overinterpreted in every way

Etoiles: It’s so funny—

Antoine: What’s wild is that there’s a billion theories on things, and for my part there are people that have understood some stuff about the theory and everything, which I find rather fun

Etoiles: Well it’s— you can’t reproach them because—

Antoine: Oh no precisely, I don’t want to reproach them, on the contrary I find it so cool!

Etoiles: Yeah but it’s funny the extent to which they get in their heads about it— like, you say one sentence on the server and you read a whole text of 65–

Etoiles: —and it’s completely hidden within the server, no one knows about it in the roleplay

ZeratoR: Even I knew about it, so

Etoiles: Yeah, well there you go. And therefore I have a hidden team that allows me to go into buildings, kill Federation agents that take care of the Island, and—

Antoine: But why would you want to kill Federation agents, dude?

Etoiles: Well because they’re not very nice, dude

ZeratoR: (laughs) Oh the lore is incredible. Well, it’s not nice to be mean, but…

Etoiles: The thing that’s funny—

Antoine: They’re not mean…

Etoiles: —is that I see messages from people on Twitter reacting like, ‘well I think it’s insane that Etoiles is killing Federation agents,’ when I don’t want to kill them. I never want to kill them. When I kill them, it’s because I’m forced to. And the last time, I didn’t want to kill them—

Antoine: That’s a really war criminal-esque phrase, that

ZeratoR: Clearly

Etoiles: No but bro, bro, it’s the admins themselves that told me, ‘return to the base, let’s fight,’ that’s what they said, bro, so I was like, ‘well, okay’ (laughs)

Do you have any advice on picking books for readers with limited time? I love to read, but in the past couple years I've been dissatisfied with almost everything I've read and I've purposely been trying to pick a variety: obscure, best-sellers, internet-recs, vintage, recents and I can't seem to pick well. I know the key to finding more good things is to read more quantity, but I've only got so much free time and can only read so fast.

Oh I feel you! There was a whole period of my life when I was desperately trying to find some alchemical formula to ensure that most of the books I read are good-to-great rather than okay-to-good. I had this scientific process where I tried to log a lot of details about the books I read and then look at the numbers year after year to find a common denominator. Is it a matter of reading more, or is it reading more older books vs. recent ones, male vs. female authors, books from my to-read list vs. impulsive reads, books recommended by friends vs. books I find myself? etc. etc. I made line graphs.

In the end the only factor that seemed to correlate with how many good books I read in a year was the number of unfinished reads, so the one piece of advice I have is to not hesitate to give up on a book you're not enjoying. I read multiple books at a time so it's easy to see if there's one that I keep neglecting in favour of the others; and I get most of my books for free or very cheap (from my local library, or OpenLibrary or Zlibrary, or secondhand bookshops where they're like 50cts apiece, or swapping books with friends), the ones I buy new are mostly books I've already read & enjoyed, so I don't have qualms about giving up 20 pages in if I'm not feeling it.

Other than that, I've kind of made my peace with the fact that finding a good book is a mysterious serendipitous process and most of the books I read will be just okay, plus a few bad ones and some great ones.

That said if most books you read end up being unsatisfying rather than at least okay, maybe you're not sure what you're looking for? It helps to identify what you want from a book at a particular time (fun escapism, learning more about a given topic, immersion in a specific atmosphere and if so, which one...) I tend to start a new read with a precise idea of what it would take for this book to be satisfying, e.g. "rn I feel like reading about someone's quiet daily life, maybe a diary or letters, set in a place or context I don't know much about, without turmoil or tragedy" or "a story set in the 17/1800s with flowery prose, interesting female characters, focused on intricate social shenanigans rather than romance or adventure" etc, so it allows me to narrow things down and eliminate potential reads where too many criteria are missing.

And I like to read a few 1-star goodreads reviews—some prefer to focus on 3-star reviews which are more balanced; personally I figure, if the people who hated this book the most cite reasons for disliking it that aren’t dealbreakers for me, that’s a good sign. And if the worst reviews cite stuff I'm actually looking for right now ("too long, too many digressions, long-winded prose, too quiet / not enough action", etc) then it’s a book that comes recommended both by 5-star and 1-star reviewers :)

petit tw ; racisme, propos problématiques quand tu rejoins un groupe discord privé de plusieurs membres du forum

ceux qui sont hyperactifs sur le forum et ont dix milles rp chacun, entre eux, avec les nouveaux, avec les autres anciens

qu'on se dit que ça peut être que des gens cool, ouverts et franchement sympa parce qui de nos jours à cette énergie là

sur le serveur du forum il y a eu une conversation qui a dérapé (le staff est intervenu dès qu'ils se sont co et a ban un joueur) voici une des réactions sur le groupe privé de ces quelques membres vis-à-vis des joueurs qui s'opposaient aux dires de celui qui a été ban ;

jusque là la bienveillance supposée de ces joueurs qui sont hyper accueillants avec les nouveaux et font presque à eux seuls tourner tout le forum j'ai pas hésité à envoyer au staff des screens après avoir quitté le groupe privé même s'ils peuvent pas faire grand chose, ça n'a pas été dit sur le serveur du forum et sur le forum et le serveur officiel ces gens là sont hyper bienveillants, mais pas un dans le groupe privé qui n'a pas eu des propos méga problématiques comme quoi certains méritent des rôles d'acteurs, les oscars se perdent

Je dois être là seule meuf sur terre à être trop contente quand elle a ses règles. Sérieux tout les mois je me dis "est-ce que je suis enceinte ?", "Je vais devoir refaire un test de grossesse..". Tout ça parce que j'ai des règles irrégulières depuis toujours donc en gros je peux les avoir le 4 comme le 28 comme le 10 du mois (et parfois je les ai pas pendant 2 mois) 🤷. Et même en prenant la pilule et en faisant ultra gaffe, je me dis toujours que c'est fiable entre 92 et 99% donc j'ai une infiiiiime chance de tomber enceinte, et vous allez me dire que j'abuse mais vu qu'il m'arrive toujours des conneries et des trucs fou, bah voilà quoi !

Et me parler pas de stérilet, je connais 3 meufs qui sont tombés enceinte sous stérilet en cuivre donc non merci !. Je vais pratiquer l'abstinence ça m'enleverai une sacrée angoisse 😭.

En vrai Quackity le gars il a utilisé la strat habituelle des streamers quand t'as un drama, qui est le "je savais pas uwu je suis un pauvre choupinou tout aussi victime que vous" mais ça marche pas dans cette situation en fait... (Après on pourrait faire tout un truc sur les streamers qui découvrent que leurs potes sont chelous comme par hasard quand ça sort publiquement alors que bon... m'ouais, mais c'est un autre sujet.) Pour le coup là c'est sa boîte, tu peux pas juste dire "oui mais vous voyez j'ai créé une entreprise qui porte mon nom, qui publie des truc en ligne pour moi, qui utilise mon logo et dont je suis trop fier, mais euh en vrai je sais pas ce qu'ils font lol". Il y a un moment, tu peux faire l'autruche mais ton entreprise=ta responsabilité. S'il voulait pas qu'ils fassent de la merde, il fallait qu'il supervise le bordel, et là déso mais le gars est fautif, même si c'est par négligence (ce qui est limite pire parce que quand on voit le manque de comm, il peut faire des excuses publiques tant qu'il veut personne pourra me convaincre qu'il en avait quoique ce soit à foutre des conditions de travail ou du bien-être de ses employés ptdr)

Un autre truc c'est le côté limite insultant du type qui fait un petit gameshow sympatoche avec les copains alors que ça fais trois semaines qu'il a balancé un "oui oui je règle les problèmes" et que... bah rien. Il a rien fait pour ses employés? Pas un mot pour l'admin de Pomme, ce serait bien de se pencher sur ça au lieu de jouer à minecraft mon gars? J'ai l'impression que si tu ouvre un dico, tu vois sa photo quant tu trouve les mots "foutage de gueule".

On est bien d’accord. Même si on laisse le bénéfice du doute et qu’on admet qu’il était au courant de rien (perso je veux bien le croire là dessus), il reste le problème de la négligence.

Désolée t’es le patron d’une boîte à ton nom, tout est à ton image et tu ne te tiens ABSOLUMENT PAS au courant de ce qu’il se passe en coulisses ? Pour ce qui est « lore » on va dire je comprends qu’il veuille pas s’immiscer dedans car c’est aussi un joueur mais pour tout ce qui est des conditions de travail de ses employés, de leur rémunération ? C’est pas excusable.

En plus faut pas oublier que de ce qu’on sait c’est lui qui finance beaucoup de chose et il sait jamais demandé comment c’était possible que ça lui revienne si peu cher toutes ces personnes fournissant autant d’heures de taf pour sa boîte ?

« Non mais il est jeune c’est son première projet blabla » alors OUI mais dans ce cas si t’es pas sur d’être capable de gérer un truc de l’envergure du QSMP comme on l’a connu pendant 10 mois revoie les choses à la baisse ? Le projet aurait eu du succès même en étant un peu moins ambitieux.

Et quand tu découvres que ta négligence en tant que boss a donné lieu à des abus comme ça dsl mais tu devrais te donner à fond pour essayer de corriger ça au mieux. Je vais pas me répéter sur le manque de com parce que j’en ai beaucoup parlé déjà mais lancer le dialogue avec les admins aurait du être la première étape.

Pour le game show je vais pas trop rager car c’était sûrement prévu pour le Tubbathon depuis longtemps (pour les awards par contre j’ai bien la rage)
