3x01 Exposed

A local FBI case involving two murdered women and a sea of powerful men turns into a manhunt for the dangerous leader of a far-reaching criminal enterprise.

This is Part 3 of the 1st FBI Crossover. Alexa Davalos joins the show as Kristin Gaines. This crossover would also be the introduction of Luke Kleintank as Scott Forrester on FBI International. Alexa and Luke starred opposite each other in Prime Video's alt history thriller The Man In The Castle. That is my next set of gif sets that I will be working on.

3x02 Patriots

New Fugitive Task Force member Kristin Gaines joins Jess and the team as they head to DC to find a dangerous fugitive from the January 6 Capitol riot.

3x03 Tough Love

When a judge known for serving harsh sentences to juveniles is murdered, the team looks into his lengthy list of cases in the hunt for his killer; Kristin faces family hurdles while resettling with her teenage daughter in New York City.

3x04 Inherited

The team must determine if the kidnapping of a young Chinese-American woman is a random hate crime or if she was specifically targeted; Jess and Sarah struggle with Tali's continued rebellious streak.

Trivia: We meet CIA Agent Kevin Miller in this episode. Kristin asks him about the interest the Chinese have in CRISPR tech. Kevin will show up later in 3x22 A Man Without A Country.

3x05 Unhinged

After a deadly fire at an arcade, the team discovers the blaze was just the first step in an intricate plan to exact revenge on one of the victims; Hana rejoins the team, finding new adjustments in all aspects of her life.

Trivia: There is a blooper in this episode. When Hana and Kristin are talking to the loan shark you can see a wedding ring on Kristin's hand. Later when Kristin talks to Hana and Sheryll she tells that she's divorced from Nick.

3x06 Lovesick

The team attempts to hunt down a family annihilator before he continues his murder spree; Barnes' intrusive mother puts pressure on her marriage.

3x07 Gladiator

The team investigates the murder of a professional basketball player's wife, who was a famous lifestyle guru; Kristin and her ex-husband grow closer; special agent Isobel Castille checks in with the team on the high-profile case.

3x08 Sport Of Kings

After a prized Kentucky racehorse is stolen and its groomer is taken hostage, the team quickly learns they may be the only ones who consider the young woman's safety a priority over the horse's; Byron returns to celebrate the holidays with Jess.

3x09 Run Hide Fight

While holiday shopping, Barnes and Jess are caught in the middle of a mall shooting; Gaines, Hana and Ortiz try to help from the outside, knowing their team's family members are inside and at risk.

Trivia: This episode marks the introduction of David Hudgins as the new showrunner for FBI Most Wanted. It is also the first episode that follows a new format of jumping right into the action.

Notes: They tackled a moral dilemma, the whole “let’s grow a new person just to use it’s organs”, but it was over pretty fast, the decision that Trip had the right to survive while Sim didn’t was so clear in Archer’s and idk… bit disappointing.

Where in the galaxy is Keiko O’Brien?

I keep getting confused about when Keiko is on the station and when she’s away, and sometimes I get a plotbunny and then realise that she’s not even there at that time. When I sat down to look at it, I realised I have way too much knowledge about this, so here it is - all of Keiko’s known movements during Deep Space Nine. I’ve double-checked everything I remembered on Chakoteya and Memory Alpha. I can’t guarantee I haven’t missed something, but if I have, it’s on the level of going away for part of an episode. 

I hope this is useful for fic-writing and other endeavours!

1x01 The Emissary Keiko arrives to DS9 along with the Enterprise. She talks about taking Molly and going back to Earth, but then doesn’t. 

1x01-2x202 Keiko is on DS9. 

2x03 The Siege  Keiko and other civilians are evacuated from DS9, and are to the taken to the Korat system. However, the first shuttle with evacuees comes back at the end of the episode, so they may not even have made it to the Korat system before turning away. 

2x04 Invasive Procedures Everyone but a skeleton crew is evacuated due to a plasma storm. She is back on the station by the next episode. 

2x05-2x22 - On DS9

2x22 The Wire She is away at a hydroponics conference on Rigel Four for more than a week. 

2x23-3x03 On DS9.

Two weeks after 3x03 The House of Quark Keiko leaves for the expedition to the Janitza Mountains, taking Molly with her. Miles tells her in 3x03 that the expedition starts in two weeks. It’s unclear how big the gap between 3x03 and 3x04 is, as neither episode has a stardate, so it’s hard to say if she’s gone by 3x04. However, Miles does not appear in 3x04, so we could theorise that he’s helping her get everything ready and follow her down to Bajor (because you know Miles would fuss over that kind of thing). 

3x06-3x09 On Bajor.

3x10 Fascination Keiko and Molly come to visit DS9 for the Gratitude Festival, staying for two days. 

3x11-4x16 On Bajor. In Fascination she says she will be away two or three months longer. I lean towards this being longer than that. We know Keiko spends one night at DS9, at which point she gets pregnant. This could be the same time as Fascination, but I don’t think so, as they would have had to decide that they were going to try for a baby, and that is not something they talk about in Fascination (as at that point they almost break up). Furthermore, this must have been something that is planned ahead more. From events in s7, we know that Sisko takes a contraceptive shot once a month, and it seems possible or even likely that Miles is on something similar. That means that he has to go off it, and it also explains why he’s surprised she’s pregnant, because she says “I thought it’d take a couple of nights. To be honest, a lot more nights.” (That is partly just that he wants to have sex with his wife, but if he’s just stopped taking contraceptives, that might explain that further.) On top of all this, I have calculated (from when I wrote my Keiko/Kira fic) that Keiko is eight or nine weeks pregnant in Accession. (This was based on chronological markers within the episodes of s4 and counting backwards from Body Parts. Kira is pregnant for five months, so it’d be logical that Keiko is four months gone in Body Parts, and stuff in the episodes between Accession and Body Parts makes a two-month gap likely.) 

4x17 Accession The expedition having ended, Keiko is back on the station. 

4x17-4x25 On DS9. 

4x25 Body Parts Goes to Torad V in the gamma quadrant for three days together with Bashir and Kira. 

4x26-5x05 On DS9.

5x05 The Assignment Goes on an expedition to the Five Caves for five days. (Comes back possessed by a pah-wraith - man, she needs to stop going to places with ‘five’ in their name...) 

5x06-5x25 On DS9.

Two days before 5x26 Call to Arms Leaves the station to live on Earth together with Molly as the war is heating up.

5x26-6x24 On Earth. Memory Alpha says she is gone almost a year, and often, a series is about a year, but in 6x16 Miles mentions that she has been gone for six months, so it might be shorter. There is no mention that I can find that she was away a full year.

Before 6x24 Time’s Orphan Comes back to DS9. Considering the conversations in the beginning of this episode, it sounds like they have gotten back the day before or so. 

6x24-7x26 On DS9.

Idea for a fifth and final season of Fargo

Set in 2016, about five years after season 3 and ten years after season 1, the story interconnects many of the narratives from all of the previous anthologies, with various returning characters tied into a new story.

MAIN CHARACTERS Odina Tripoli (Amber Midthunder) - During a long exile, the tenacious daughter of deceased mob boss, Moses Tripoli a.k.a. Hanzee Dent, has gone from bratty to vengeful in her entitlement. She is now looking to re-establish the Fargo Crime Syndicate, ten years after its dissolution at the hands of Lorne Malvo (season 1). A chance encounter with Charlie Gerhardt, the last surviving member of his own crime family syndicate from the 70s (season 2), now happily living his life as a law-abiding citizen, does not dissuade her from her path to take back control of the town from the Kansas City Mafia, with the help of her father’s only remaining employee, a deaf hitman.

Wes Wrench (Russell Harvard) - After escaping custody at Duluth hospital ten years ago (episode 1x08), and returning to the mob headquarters, Wrench discovered that Malvo had killed everyone there except for the boss’s precocious teenager. He begrudgingly took her to a log cabin near Blackduck to hide with her last known family; a distant cousin of Hanzee’s named Shep Proudfoot. Shep had been a fugitive in hiding there since a triple homicide incident in 1987 (Fargo, the movie). Wrench was recaptured by the police and put in jail, but returned to Blackduck years later, with a briefcase full of money that he and Nikki Swango took from Varga (episode 3x10). Odina convinced him to wait as she planned how to use the money to take back Fargo. Zero Fadda (Joe Mantegna) and Mike Milligan a.k.a. Satchel Cannon (John Amos) - Now in their seventies, the two sons of crime bosses from a dying age, once traded away as pawns (season 4), now run what is left of the Kansas City Mafia together as close friends. Over the decades, the organization has evolved from a criminal enterprise into a largely legitimate business concern. Zero looks after the professional, above-board side, while Mike handles any illegal undertakings when necessary. This partnership has served them well, but since taking Fargo from the Gerhardt family in ‘79, eventually losing it to Moses Tripoli, and then reclaiming it again after Moses’ death, the Minnesota area has been more difficulty than it’s worth, especially now Odina Tripoli has returned as a new challenger stirring up trouble. Winnie Lopez (Olivia Sandoval), Now the chief at St Cloud Police Department, and pregnant again, she is assigned to a bank robbery and multiple homicide, where the robber appeared disinterested in taking any money, and his accomplice appeared unaware he was taking part in a robbery at all. Greta Grimly (Joey King), Molly Solverson’s stepdaughter, now in her early 20s and studying crime in Twin Cities. She and Lou Solverson (Keith Carradine), Molly’s father, have grown especially close, and often organize to meet up for lunch in Brainerd, halfway between Bemidji and the capitol, to keep in touch. After Lou is caught in the crossfire during a bank robbery while there, Greta is spurred to investigate, and becomes entrenched in Odina’s brewing turf war. Bly Vanderslice (Aubrey Plaza) Winnie’s estranged half-sister is an escort with a penchant for drugging her clients and running up their hotel room service tabs while they sleep, before leaving them in compromising positions. Her mother, Noreen, babysat Molly as a child (season 2) and she shares her interest in philosophy and nihilism. Bly suffers from face-blindness, which makes her role as a witness to a series of murders largely untenable.

Dirk de Wees van Hoebeek (Dan Stevens) An awkward, introverted local birdwatcher and duck enthusiast who has developed an unhealthy obsession with Bly, fantasizing that the two of them are dating. He mistakes her literal inability to recognize his face, as a sign of her playing hard-to-get, and is eager to impress her despite her indifference. When Wrench discovers he knows sign language, he tricks Dirk into acting as his interpreter during a bank heist, implicating him in the crime. Wrench gives him all of the money they take, making Dirk suddenly rich, but an unwitting scapegoat. Oddly enough, everywhere he goes, he seems to be randomly haunted by stereotypical lumberjacks (both in iconography and actual people); a symbol of the dominant masculinity he can never personally attain. Ruby Goldfarb (Mary McDonnell), In the past five years, ‘The Storage Queen of The Great Lakes Region’ (season 3) has gone from strength to strength, and after recently buying the ‘Phoenix Farms’ supermarket chain from former ‘Supermarket King of Minnesota’ (Season 1), a now despondent Stavros Milos (David Platt), she is looking to expand further west into North Dakota. But given their control over the area, this expansion will require the mafia’s blessing and necessitates a sit-down with Zero Fadda and his representative in Fargo. Pearl Smutney-Cannon (Aunjanue Ellis), The niece of Mike Milligan, she owns a car dealership in Alexandria as a front for the Kansas City Mafia, her involvement with whom is only familial and unavoidable as her finances are tied up with theirs. She represents their interests in Fargo, but intends to distance herself from the mob, taking this new conflict as an opportunity to get out. She is targeted first when her dealership is shot up by Odina’s crew during a drive-by, damaging much of her stock. This prompts her to uncover the secret partnership between Odina Tripoli and Ruby Goldfarb, that was formed after Zero refused to support Goldfarb’s expansion to the west.

Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare), After his actions in 1987 (Fargo, the movie), Gaear is serving multiple life sentences in jail, where he meets Wes Wrench and becomes a twisted sort of mentor figure to him. His connections on the outside help Wrench and Tripoli build an army to retake Fargo. He also alerts them to a safety deposit box of unexplained importance in a bank in Brainerd, which confusingly turns out to contain only a small replica statue of Paul Bunyan, the theft of which starts off the narrative chain of events.

Rewatching Laws of Nature

And so it begins. The Year of the Fridge.

Being the love interest of a lead character is always an hazardous occupation in all kinds of fiction but boy if Season 3 didn’t drive the point home, crashed it into a wall and then used the debris to beat it to death. The worst off casualty - five in total if we also count Ward, who was a love interest for a bit in S1 - is probably Andrew because he manages to be killed off twice: first becoming Lash permanently and then dying for good.

For now, there’s just Fitz with a (quite literally) lost love interest and he is desperately refusing to surrender the hope that he can find her again. His friends are dealing -- well, I suspect Daisy is in fact not dealing at all, just focusing on her new mission to avoid dwelling on her most recent heartbreak - and have accepted the loss. Fitz, however, can’t give up or move on. It’s very fortunate that he doesn’t or Jemma would never have made it off Maveth, but it’s not very healthy.

“The secret is out [...] now we know they’re among us. Heroes and monsters” said Skye in her opening monologue in the Pilot. She meant the Avengers but it works even better for the Inhumans.

The secret of their existence is so out the US President is making a special address about it as the A.T.C.U. - who are clearly out of their depth, judging by the lack of acronym and the fact that their idea of keeping things under wraps is hunting people in the streets - and S.H.I.E.L.D. are both failing in different ways at the impossible task to contain it.

And unlike the Afterlife Inhumans, who knew how to deal with their scary transformations and were carefully selected for the “change” to begin with, the new ones can easily be disasters waiting to happen. Heroes, monsters and everything in between. Fear and prejudice will be spreading faster than the terrigen.

New Toys:

If the Bus was the Enterprise D - warm, elegant, comfy - the Zephyr One is the Defiant. Built for action, fast deployment, and, doing one better, its cloaking device doesn’t need a special dispensation from the Romulans. 😁

Bulky but vaguely resembling a bird of prey, for now the Z1 - designed by Fitz - is “just” a very advanced plane with high-altitude capabilities (3x21) and  “mind-boggling range”. In this episode Coulson says it can fly without refueling for “days” but in 4x01 brags of six weeks in the air as its new record. In 4x20 Z1 had only 24 hours of power left after 10 days of non stop flying, but it had also been running the Framework hardware. 

“Built like a tank” (Davis, 4x20) and then some, it will survive the destruction of the planet in the Cracked!Earth timeline and still be able to take off 70+ years later. By S6, it's capable of both interstellar and time travel.

With the Z1 comes the new containment module, made of “polytectic adaptive materials” that can be customized on the fly and remotely (3x11) to safely contain a variety of powers, fiery-headed demons from East L.A. excluded (4x06). It also doubles as a shuttle of a sort for quick landings and emergency extractions.

Gotta Catch ‘Em All:

Joey Gutierrez, construction foreman and motorcycle enthusiast, has the power of metal manipulation, able to melt and reshape any metallic object, including speeding bullets (3x10).

He hates check-ups, had a health-nut boyfriend, is bilingual and his mom cooks a storm on Sundays (3x11). One of the original members of the Secret Warriors (I say original because I like to delude myself that they aren’t over and done 😥), he will eventually return to a regular civilian life, despite Mack’s dire predictions to the contrary in this episode.

Stuff that crossed my mind:

What’s your name? Guy, what’s your name? -- Joey -- Joey. Okay, my name’s Daisy, I’m with S.H.I.E.L.D. and we’re here for your protection. Hold that thought, Daisy, I need to watch your entrance on repeat a few hundred times. Btw, love the hair.

It’s not like this day can get any crazier, right? -- Right? [ascending very fast in the containment module] I take that back! And Joey immediately learns that it indeed can, and most likely will, get crazier.

Hello, Ms Price. You look very ominous and kinda evil lowering the window like that.

It may feel like your life has ended, but it’s just got more interesting. Isn’t “may your life be interesting” some kind of curse?

How did it feel to join the paparazzi, Phil? I believe this is only the second time she called him Phil and possibly the last (to date). The first time was in 1x04 when he asked her not to.

This metamorphosis is becoming less rare. And I don’t like that one of them got away. And now you’re sounding kinda evil.

The labcoat looks good on Bobbi. As everything else ever. 🤭

I did see enough to know that you're generally more concerned for others than you are for yourself. He’s come to the right place, then.

So, Joey is definitely having his worst day ever but he’s been saved by Daisy, greeted in by Bobbi and now it’s Daisy and Mack coming to visit. I am a bit jealous.

Oh, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, I’m not going anywhere near Bobbi. Good to see six months and a near death scare haven’t changed your relationship dynamic. 🤣

Mack, you should head downstairs, assist Skye with intake. -- Daisy. -- Daisy. Damn it. Hard for us to get used to, uh? -- No. No, just you. There might be a metaphor here for parents who have a hard time seeing their kids as grown-ups. Or another reminder of the difficulty to adjust to changes. Or he simply, like a good chunk of the audience at the time, prefers the name Skye.

So, she’s the greeting party and you’re the muscle, huh? -- Believe me, she is the muscle. -- He looks big and intimidating. But inside, he’s just a soft, little, fluffy little teddy bear. You’re really overselling this, no wonder Joey looks thoroughly unimpressed.

So, I’m an alien? -- Part alien. Welcome to the club. We call ourselves Inhumans. Yes, and branding isn’t your forte, tbh. "Inhuman” doesn’t really convey many fluffy feelings.

New readings on the monolith? -- Nope. That was Daisy firing a warning shot. And miscalculating the amplitude big time, she shook the entire base. Oh! Foreshadowing! (or just: hey new folks we’re hoping are tuning in, she has powers and they’re a lot).

The good news, if you want to call it that, is the deadly metallic elements sank to the bottom, so the chemical contaminating the sea life isn't deadly to humans, just game-changing for Inhumans. The bad news, it’s not just in the fish oil. That’s also a good, fish oil is disgusting.

I get it. Rehab’s a bitch. At least you’re not hoping your knee will grow back. Very subtle, Mr. Director. Or not.

Oh, and by the way, where is [Fitz]? [...] He’s had a lot of last leads. Six months of “last leads” 😥 that would drive anyone crazy.

Tangier looks exactly like Bahrain and every other North African or Middle Eastern location in every American TV show ever. I think they all shoot on the same “Run down bazaar with sandy alleys” set or something. 😁

[Fitz] wouldn’t dare go in [the Monolith’s enclosure]. He’s not totally irrational. I think you’ll want to revise that diagnosis, Dr. Morse.

Without [Fitz], I need your eyes on this. -- Well, it’s a prototype. -- That’s what I was thinking. -- Thumb detection in the handle -- I had to bypass it, yeah -- Liquid-helium-cooled, titanium barrel and slide...if you ask me, it looks like an Emerging Technologies design. DARPA, maybe? -- Yeah, that’s what I thought. -- So you didn’t need my damn eyes on this at all, huh? 🤣 Later on the train Coulson holds the A.T.C.U. agents at gunpoint with one of their pistols which maybe shouldn’t have deterred them given the fingerprint detection.

Team’s fallen apart enough as it is. Can’t afford any more trouble. Mack, it’s like you haven’t been here for the past 22 episodes. “More Trouble” is you guys’ specialty.

Now, I've learned [the Monolith] was buried in the Yucatan after being dragged around the Earth for a few hundred years. And originally found with it, were artifacts. Mostly worthless, except one. A scroll casing, over 1,000 years old. The casing holds a parchment which reportedly describes exactly what this monolith is, which is what I want to know. Monolith info dump. In S6 Benson will visit the Yucatan digsite off screen because of the intel Fitz gathered during The Search for Jemma.

This woman you went to all this trouble for...you love her, yeah? -- Yeah. -- Only love can make a man so stupid. He’s not stupid. Or, he’s the kind of stupid Bobbi and Hunter were labeling each other in 2x22. He’s brave, reckless and very desperate.

And Mack is not exactly coming off as a teddy bear. Agreed. Joey totally needed a Mack Hug(tm) and he didn’t deliver. Shame.

Lincoln? You really want to go there again? -- He could help with intake. So you’re not calling it the Welcome Wagon after all? That’s actually a relief. 😁

Plus, [Lincoln] understands physical change. He’s a doctor, whereas we don’t even know what medical treatments to give. Especially since your best doctor, who isn’t that kind of doctor but still does all that kind of doctoring, is currently playing hide and seek with a parasitic monster on Blue Tatooine.

And who do you answer to? -- Mr. Coulson, it's others who answer to me. The laws of nature have changed. And until the laws of man change to reflect that, we can only do what we feel is right. This is a really nice turn of a phrase, no wonder it made it into the president’s speech.

I understand the trail of bodies you’re leaving behind. The dead ones I won’t hold against you. Interesting. The dead ones would be the ones to concern me. Maybe I don’t like you all that much after all. 🤔

Why is Lash causing electrical interferences and failures? If he’s trying to match the unrivaled badassary and brilliance of Daisy’s entrance scene earlier, that ain’t happening big guy. She has yet to match it, honestly.

I don't need to remind people of the catastrophes in New York, London, and most recently Sokovia, tragedies that seem to be growing in number and scale. And the organization we had in place to protect us, S.H.I.E.L.D., brought airships raining down in our nation's capital. The nazi infiltrate your ranks and almost take over the world once and nobody ever let you forget it.

I've lived with a secret before. I was miserable until I came out with it. -- This secret...the world's not ready to hear. Take it from the girl who hated secrets. 😏

Now that we know the full queen opening monologue, any thoughts?

Hi anon! Thanks for the ask! Here’s what lines stood out to me as possible S4 themes:

1) “Miscalculations can have fatal consequences.”2) “When your people fail you, you have no choice but to let them go.”3) Staying on top is never bloodless.

Every Queenpin monologue has involved a murder and the show itself has been pretty ruthless about killing off characters, so the last one we can jot down as a consistent series theme.  The first two I found intriguing especially because of the misdirect with the “betrayers” of the opening scene being the men standing by Teresa’s side rather than the men kneeling on the floor in front of her.  Could this mean a similar misdirect this season with a character who seems to be obviously betraying Teresa not actually being the true threat? 

As I mentioned before, I saw some story connections between Teresa and Queenpin’s opener as well.  With Queenpin cutting a ribbon to a hotel (?) opening and then Teresa making plans to transition to legitimate businesses, part of me wondered if this flash forward wasn’t that far into the future, maybe even the S4 finale.  The opening scene also showed that although Queenpin was involved with non-criminal enterprises, the blood of cartel life still literally stained her skin.  I think Teresa’s journey this season will include finding that transition more difficult and bloody than she hopes.  

But remember what James said all the way back in S1: “The only way out is to move up.” Becoming a legitimate business woman is one way to do that.

And yes, the fireworks (3x10) AND the police cars (Jeresa 3x02, Jeresa 3x04, James 3x13) made me think of James. I thought he might show up on the roof in 4x01 but if it’s a flash forward to 4x13 maybe he still will? To be continued…
