I highly doubt Yoshida was trying to suggest anything literal with the images of Ash and Blanca, the animals or anyone else (there’s artwork of what looks to be Dino at one point).

The Blanca art in particular I can see being multiple things but they’re all speculation. The one I have the most stuff to talk about is this one:

Ash is portrayed as this almost invincible being through out the whole manga but Blanca is one of the only people that Ash genuinely thinks “I can’t defeat him”. There’s a certain level of power then that Blanca holds over Ash.

Ash is scared of other people, he was terrified when he was with Foxx and (as you can see in Private Opinion) he was scared of people like Marvin. But in those cases, he was scared of the abuse, not so much whether or not he could take them down. Foxx was pretty formidable but that was largely because Foxx had a lot of resources.

So the art could be symbolic of the power he holds over Ash.

Obviously nothing I’m saying is confirmed so don’t take my word for it. I’m just making guesses.

Now there is another reason that I think is also plausible though I doubt very many will be particularly pleased with.

If you’ve been in this fandom for a bit, you’ll probably have heard that Yoshida originally intended for Ash to end up with a female Blanca. Now I don’t know how early on this idea was scrapped, I don’t know how early on she decided this. All I know is that it was scrapped by the time Blanca was introduced as we were introduced to him as a man not as a woman.

There’s a chance she still had a fondness or interest in the couple so she drew them in such a way to explore that.

Now, regardless of whether you think the couple would be in bad taste or not, I hope you can understand where my idea might have come from (remember I’m not god so these are purely ideas).

There’s other art in Angel Eyes I thought was a bit, unnecessary perhaps? Such as the art of Ash with his hands tied and c*m on his face.
