Over the garden wall headcannon
I think Enoch is a cat sí
We know his true form is a black cat inside his giant, pumpkin.
Although he doesn’t have a white spot, his role in the story could be that of a cat sí. They steal the soul of the deceased before it was claimed by the gods. He collects skeletons during the harvest. I have a theory he could that Enoch could be steeling souls from the beast.

pottsfieldhq is an appless discord rp, inspired by and set in the universe of over the garden wall. characters find themselves in the mysterious forest of the unknown, and are subsequently welcomed into the rural, modernized town of pottsfield. its mayor, a seemingly giant pumpkin-being named enoch, has welcomed the newcomers and allocated spaces for them to live. the townsfolk are equally welcoming, though perhaps a little cryptic at times. through plot drops & events, characters will learn more about the unknown and what might have brought them here !

Question for Over the Garden Wall fans. Do you think the skeleton people of Pottsfield know Enoch is a talking black cat? Or do they think he's a giant pumpkin God or giant skeleton in a Pumpkin and straw body?

For the send me a character ask game may I request Enoch from Otgw please?
Sexuality Headcanon: Whatever he's got going on that makes him like the Beast. Gender Headcanon: Whatever he's got going on that makes him be like that. A ship I have with said character: Beastnoch!! A BROTP I have with said character: Enoch and his Pumpkins A NOTP I have with said character: Enoch and the Queen of the Clouds A random headcanon: He claims he can dance very well, but that's just a false accusation at this point. The Beast beatboxes in the background. If anything whenever these two creative giants collaborate Enoch always manages to nearly end up without some of his ribbons. Every single time tragedy strikes. Enoch has like 75 left ribbons (ie feet) General Opinion over said character: I don't actually have many thoughts about him as an individual eldlritch abomination. More or less I view him as the Beast's most lovable accessory.

OTGW Sequel Idea: Return to the Unknown
Wirt and Sara's daughter, Bea, believes her uncle Gregory's stories of the Unknown are just make-believe. All that changes one Halloween night, when she accompanies her classmates to a spooky abandoned house, where an accident lands her into a coma, whereupon she finds herself in the same Unknown from her uncle's tales. On her quest back to consciousness, she is joined by William, a meek wizard in training, Cornelia, a skeletal resident of Pottsfield, and Raymund, a sarcastic talking dodo. As these group of friends make their way through the Unknown to find Bea's way home, they encounter many odd characters and dangers, from Mr. Whittles, a hunter who uses animal bones for his "ivory" carvings, to William's monstrous Aunt Beldam, who looks like a gigantic floating wooden face with trailing tentacles. They are also stalked by the witch Evanor, a follower of the deceased Beast, who seeks to resurrect her master at all costs.
Tropes
Actor Allusion: This isn't the first time that a character voiced by Crispin Glover starred in a creepy production with a mention of the "Beast". And with Elijah Wood, no less!
Nor is it the first time Jim Conroy voiced a funny Talking Animal with a happy-go-lucky attitude.
Jim Belushi also voiced a crazy hunter character in a certain show about monsters.
Anachronism Stew: Justified by Enoch, who tells Bea that the Unknown is a realm located "betwixt and between". Below are examples from the different eras:
Bea's Halloween costume consists of a Regency era dress (like her namesake wore), a crop military costume jacket and a tricorn hat from a pirate costume.
William's outfit is inspired by 1650-1690 clothing, like his mother's.
Ray wears a Victorian-era vest, as part of the reference to Alice in Wonderland.
Mr. Whittles is dressed in classic 18th-century hunting clothing.
Evanor's attire is inspired by Jane Stanford, a "robber baroness".
Bizarre Dream Rationalization: Bea is in disbelief when she realizes she's in the Unknown, but quickly brushes it off as she's dreaming. That is, until she looks down a magic well and sees herself being loaded into an ambulance.
Coming of Age Story: The series has a lot of elements of this for Bea.
Chariot Pulled by Cats: Enoch the cat drives a wagon pulled by turkeys.
Don't Go in the Woods: The whole sequel, like its forerunner, is about being lost in the woods and trying to get home. Although Bea wound up in the Unknown after falling through a rotted floor in an old house, as opposed to through the woods or nearly drowning in a pond.
Down the Rabbit Hole: Bea enters the Unknown after a fall. On her journey to return home, she learns a valuable lesson along the way.
Earn Your Happy Ending: In the end, Bea is finally able to get home after defeating Evanmor.
Facial Horror: Aunt Beldam, being the demon who once possessed Lorna, and has now taken the Beast's place, is now covered in Eldewood faces.
Friendly Skeleton: Cornelia, being an inhabitant of Pottsfield.
Homage: Bea's journey is reminiscent of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Raymund is even an Expy of the Dodo from that story. Likewise, Snap the dragonfly is a nod to the Snap-dragonfly in Through the Looking-Glass.
Bea's crop jacket is inspired by the military outfits in Attack on Titan. (Probably from a cosplay.)
Cornelia's pumpkin mask resembles one of the two classic sock and buskin masks. More specifically, the Comedy one.
The giant anthropomorphic bugs of Bugtown are inspired by Mr. Bug Goes to Town, as well as an old book, The Public and Private Life of Animals.
Aunt Beldam is a reference to the Creature from the film Wonderwell, while her name brings to mind the Other Mother from Coraline.
Horror Doesn't Settle for Simple Tuesday: The entire sequel, like its predecessor, takes place on Halloween night.
Mundanger: The early reveal of Bea being in a coma after she falls and lands in the Unknown.
Near-Death Experience: Bea realizes that she's going through this, and so journeys to find her way back to life.
Nightmare Face: Aunt Beldam is a literal example, taking the form of her "sister" Lorna's face with the Beast's eyes, as a result of ingesting the oil from the Beast's broken lantern.
Spin Off Spring: Bea takes over her father's role as the main character.
Wham Line: From Aunt Beldam: "It's been such a long time since I sorted the bones from my meals..."
Wham Shot: After Bea falls through the top floor of the abandoned house, she finds herself in the Unknown, believing herself to be having a weird dream, from which she assumes she will wake up, but for some reason can't. Before encountering Aunt Beldam, she realizes why: Looking down an old well, she sees her own comatose body being loaded onto an ambulance stretcher.
Likewise, Aunt Beldam's first appearance, having Lorna's face with the exact same eyes and texture as the Beast.
Wild Card: While Aunt Beldam no longer relies on eating people to survive, she still threatens to eat Bea when they first meet. Nevertheless, she comes off as this to the residents of the Unknown.

Dachshund Through Snow Christmas Cute Gift Ugly Christmas Sweater
Dachshund Through Snow Christmas Cute Gift Ugly Christmas Sweater
One of the books of the bible tells the story of the Dachshund Through Snow Christmas Cute Gift Ugly Christmas Sweater .. And how they began. The missing book is the book of Enoch. And it tells the story of how magic started. Basically there were angels who looked down on man and wanted to be with the females and they left heaven to come down, and they mated with the women and started families but they also taught man the sacred magics, the magic of metals, making iron, brass, copper and gold and silver. They taught them the medicine magics and how to heal themselves with herbs and even how to abort a baby. They taught them the mystical secrets.. Of heaven presumably. Of numbers and letters. This tribe of people was called the magi. Because they were like magicians to the other peoples. And possessed knowledges unknown to them. God became so outraged when he found them out , that he is said to have killed all the off spring of the angels who were a giant people. And produced giant children much larger than the other people – and he punished the Angels.

I figure I should add explanations for these since not everyone is going to be as aware of Enoch Lore as I am
Layer One:
Enoch is the cat: Admittedly not everyone agrees on this, but the cat pops out of Enoch's head in the final episode, and in the art book it is explained that the cat was also designed as Enoch.
Enoch/Pottsfield is a representation of autumn: Pretty straight forward, OTGW as a show takes place in the unknown over a change of seasons with the beginning of the show (And Pottsfield) being the autumn section, that slowly melts into winter.
Enoch's Biblical Ties: Enoch in the bible (Sometimes Hanok) is a biblical figure who doesn't die but instead is taken into heaven. This article covers most of it: https://www.gotquestions.org/Enoch-in-the-Bible.html. Additionally Enoch has ties to the book of Mormon.
Death/Pastoral Deity: Enoch is shown in the show to be the leader (We'll get to that) of the dead and has heavy ties with the harvest, from there its not hard to come to the conclusion he is either (or both) a death or pastoral deity.
Layer Two
Puppet maypole theory: The puppet maypole theory stems from the idea that Enoch is the cat and only the cat, and that it's controlling the maypole from within.
Pottsfield is heaven theory: This comes from the theory OTGW is Limbo, with Pottsfield being posited as heaven (In some iterations) and the Beast being posited as the devil, his lantern being hell.
Pottsfield is Limbo theory: Similar to the above theory, this takes place in the greater OTGW is a parallel to Dante's Inferno. This Youtube video gets more into the details of the AU and Pottsfield's place as limbo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBg8tQvATIA
Enoch sings Patient is the Night: Enoch is voiced by Chris Isaak, the singer, who also sings Patient is the night.
Pottsfield = Potter's Field: A Potter's Field is a name for a mass unmarked grave, which applies to Pottsfield pretty well.
Layer Three
Enoch's ribbons aren't green: They're actually dark yellow. Upsetting, I know.
Enoch is a nod to King Minos theory: This is a more specific aspect of the Pottsfield is Limbo theory, and is covered in the video I linked as well. King Minos judges and sorts the souls of the dead in Limbo, the same way Enoch judges the boys. King Minos is a giant judge and leader, similar to Enoch, King Minos is associated with snakes, often with his lower half being described as a serpent, similar to Enoch's ribbons. Additionally a hiss like a snake can be heard when Enoch flares his ribbons.
Pottsfield costumes are based on the 1800s: According to the artbook the vast majority of Pottsfield outfits are based on 1800s fashion.
"Cats don't talk": According to the artbook: "It's unclear whether or not the cat is Enoch him-self. We made sure you never saw Enoch talking while the cat was onscreen. Maybe he's like the Wizard of Oz. Maybe not. Cats can't talk." Throwing both confirmation that the cat is Enoch while also implying otherwise.
Enoch's Head is as tall as Wirt: When Enoch leans down it is shown that his head is as tall as Wirt, making him pretty much massive no matter how tall you consider Wirt to be. Terrible photo but it was the only one I could find
Ruffle collar: Well you all know what this one is, since its the photo for the next layer, but Enoch's concept art shows him in a ruffle collar, and honestly its a shame they didn't keep it.
Enoch is part apple: According to the artbook, Enoch's design is based on Apples, Maypoles, Pumpkins, and skulls, among other things, and I have to say, I don't really see the apple part. Additionally if you'd like to access the artbook, the tumblr Artbook-pages has all Pottsfield related pages in this post: https://artbook-pages.tumblr.com/post/652813683318210560/the-art-of-over-the-garden-wall-episode-2-hard
Alright, half way there,
Layer Four
Enoch plays the Beast's theme: This wasn't on the original iceberg, partially because I forgot it and partially because this layer is cramped. When Enoch appears onscreen after Wirt and Greg dig up the bodies a brief interlude of the Beast's theme plays.
Enoch can't have facial expressions: The maypole is only shown to be able to move its ribbons individually and doesn't actually change its expression much, and cats don't have the facial muscles to express the way humans do.
Pottsfield is inspired by Victorian Greeting cards: Pottsfield, much like the pilot episode, is directly inspired by Victorian Greeting cards, there's a post that goes around every few autumns showing the parallels but I can't seem to track it down.
The cat changes size: I've run the numbers on this before, and yes, the cat changes size between scenes. If you include the artbook's rendition of the cat, the cat can be bigger than a horse or cat sized. Make of shapeshifting Enoch what you will.
Enoch technically isn't a maypole: Enoch might appear to be a maypole at first glance with the ribbons but one of the crucial things about maypoles, is the pole that supports them. Enoch bends over when confronting Wirt meaning he has no ridged center. This makes Enoch at best, a jellyfish plush, and at worst, a fabric ball with a bunch of tassels.
Cyclic afterlife theory: This one takes a little explaining, so bare with me. This theory works on the idea that the dead in Pottsfield only come to life in autumn or that they die again in winter. This theory is based off the idea that Pottsfield is a set number of the dead, and that they don't really get more.
In this theory after the harvest celebration, the skeletons rebury themselves with the final scene of Pottsfield showing two skeletons, these two being the ones who finished burying everyone else but could not bury themselves before they "Died" again.
Some versions of this theory also posit that Enoch "dies" after every harvest too and that the cat is just a normal cat mucking around inside the maypole.
Enoch isn't necessarily the leader of Pottsfield: Enoch never says this, in the show there isn't precedence for Enoch being mayor, in fact he doesn't even claim to be the head of the Pottsfield Chamber of Commerce, which is what he speaks on behalf of.
Layer Five
Enoch with an iPhone: A joke from the beatricord about Enoch owning an iPhone. There is not much more to this except the mental gymnastics we went through to explain it. No, we did not come to a conclusion for how he uses the touch screen
Spine Enoch: A theory from the discord to explain Enoch without a pole. I believe I've posted an illustration of it here. You may thank @thunderbumbl for this idea. The theory says that Enoch is supported by a huge spine and that is why he can twist the way he does. How the spine ends on the ground was never fully worked out, but some options are: Ends with a pelvis and legs, the spine goes into the ground like a weird tree, and the spine coils up like a snake (Further expanding the Enoch as King Minos theory)
The turkey Wirt meets is waiting to be slaughtered: According to the artbook, that turkey is waiting patiently to be slaughtered for thanksgiving. There is no explanation for who in Pottsfield is going to eat it.
The Beast's "Corpse" ends up in Pottsfield: In the last image I included you can see to the left that a lantern that greatly resembles the Beast's Lantern is there and lit.
It should be noted: Most of the lanterns in Pottsfield don't look like this, they look like the lantern in this photo.
There are a couple of different ways this can be interpreted. That everyone dead ends up in Pottsfield, even folks without traditional skeletons, based on the idea that the rest of the Beast's body decays and the lantern is his "skeleton". But this is a Beasnoch blog, and I think you can figure out the conclusion I drew.
Corpse cat theory: The idea that Enoch is a being that exists outside of both the maypole and the cat and puppets them both, however with the specific caveat, that the cat is actually an empty corpse that Enoch is puppeting.
Layer Six
Enoch is a catboy: For the record, I want it to be known that I hate this. Enoch is a cat. He is presumably male leaning. Enoch is a catboy.
Enoch's concept art (The one with the legs): This one speaks for itself.
Otgw iceberg but only Enoch send post

Hetalia/Over the Garden Wall Au
Wirt/Greg: Romano and Italy. Italy would be Greg, obviously. Romano is an angsty little angst.
Beatrice: Prussia. Sassy boi.
The woodsman: America, and the soul in the lantern is supposedly Canada’s.
The beast: Russia. Powerful and dark.
Endicott and Grey: Austria and Hungary. Both very wealthy and a little lonely.
Fred: Denmark.
The giant pumpkin/Enoch: China, old and wise and in charge.
The tavern keeper: Japan. Very committed to understanding people’s labels.
Auntie Whispers and Lorna: Switzerland and Lichtenstein. Switzerland is the scary seeming caretaker of course and then you have the seemingly sweet one.
School teacher and lover: England and France. Francis is the teacher, being all dramatic and wishy washy. Arthur is stuck in a gorilla costume.
Sara: Germany! Of course.
Jason Funderburger: Sealand, oh my gosh.

8D You have unleashed the spam!! That may need to go under a cut because I have so many plants now!
I think I have 15 - lets check! (edit: it’s 19, I have 19 plants and there are 5 more leaf cuttings on the way)
First we have Creeper and Mogar. My little ivy babies! Though not so little anymore. These are my oldest plants now.
Other big plants! We have Ishtar.
Aww, my 3 giant babies helping me breathe <3
Then we have Mabel who you guys have met before! She’s no longer pink but a new little bud is forming so I’m hopeful she’ll grow again next summer ^o^
OK so then we come to the succulents 8D Where the spam really begins because some of these have grown from teeny tininess!
This was my first lot of succulent attempts! Not all the leaf cuttings did anything but we weren’t really sure they would beforehand c:
I think all of these are the ones I’m most shocked at though.
So first we have Imposter and Ram. Still together but now in a much bigger pot.
Look at them ;A; Look at Ram! He was a pile of leaves I found that had fallen off his plant at a store. And Imposters gotten so bobbly!
Next is Enoch (Name courtesy of @sightkeeper and our OTGW binge :D) He’s another one that started off looking a little worse for wear but!
For any one interested - the first pots were 6-7cm and the new ones are 10cm. Just for the size difference ^^
Next we have Von. (She’s a Perle Von Nurnberg but I also have a friend whose nickname is Von so the plant just gets called Vonster a lot.)
I think they look so cool as they grow from the leaves *o*
(Wow, I’m rambling. I’ll try and speed this up ^^;;)
The friend who gave me a few sprigs of this one called them a Chain Plant before then telling me another name is ‘Princess Pine’ !!! Well, as well as being part of the Pines family by default now, this ones named Princess. (Or well, any term of endearment I feel like that day - Pumpkin, Sweetie).
Then we have my latest four, bought on the same day and having names that will mean absolutely nothing to anyone other than the friend who was with me as we rambled a new AU together <3 Good times.
This one had a few suggestions. Phenix from au friend, Felicity from @sightkeeper. I went vaguely down the middle with Fae.
And then we have from left to right - Reaper, Ghost and Vagabond.
Unfortunately and ironically- the only plant I’ve lost out of this bunch is Ghost... had to be Ghost, didn’t it? ;A;
I think that’s it for the named ones! Well until my newest additions arrive.
Lastly we have the nuggets of purest green that I haven’t got names for. Which actually has the only other leaf that ever rooted!
And the pot decorations so far <3
#this is so image heavy i am so sorry#but i am weirdly proud over my plants#maybe its cause its something doing well in my life at the moment#my little plant babies growing away <3#and they look after me too#my breathing has been so much better since I've had the ivys#...nana asked for this#the spam is here (runs)#you've seen my other 2 plants that I no longer have so I was good and didn't add them too#Plant baby and Plant mama ;A; I cant keep orchids alive for more than 8 months I've realised#imp talks

🥖 sent from all of my muses but especially enoch c;
when baguettes fly || always accepting
The first time it had happened, she’d assumed it was an accident. She’d handed the loaf of bread back to the person, with a friendly smile. They’d given her an odd look for her trouble.
By now, she’d decided it must be some weird tradition here in this place she’d wandered into. Everywhere she went, at least one person ended up flinging a baguette at her for no apparent reason. She’d come to accept it, even if she really didn’t understand.
So, when the giant pumpkin man tossed the loaf in her direction, she just caught it, expression hardly changing. Was this the polite response? She certainly didn’t know. But, hey, free snack.
“–Thanks.” was all the girl said, before taking a huge bite out of the baguette.

Over the Garden Wall (Fit for three Holidays)
I am posting this as an argument in favor of Over the Garden Wall being a holiday special fit for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. There will be mild spoilers. Over The Garden Wall is an animated fantasy mini-series about two boys lost in a strange forest called The Unknown. It is very similar to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland or The Wizard of Oz but it has a very autumnal feel to it. All the visuals are based on vintage Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas postcards. Though the story can be very surreal and spooky it is also sweet and wholesome and has a happy ending for the boys and all those they interacted with in The Unknown. Now here's why I feel Over the Garden Wall is fit for three holidays (Possibly four) despite the obvious fact that all the visuals are based on vintage Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Postcards. ___________________________________ First the Halloween content. The mini-series (which is roughly movie length) is divided into ten episodes or ten "chapters." Halloween parts: Episode 2 deals with a harvest on November 1st. Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead. You don't learn that this is set on November 1st until later but the visuals are there. There skeletons dressing up in early twentieth century style Jack-o-lanterns and vegetable (mostly pumpkin) bodies to hide their bones. And they are being lead by a mysterious entity called Enoch (later shown to be a talking black cat). This is the most Halloween (or Day of the Dead) content you get until episode 9. Into the Unknown.
In episode 9 you learn that the boys' adventure actually started on Halloween night. And that it was Halloween candy Gregory had in his pockets in chapter 1. I only did not mention the candy before because in the context of the mini-series you don't learn it was Halloween candy until chapter 9.
________________________
Thanksgiving Parts: First, Over the Garden Wall originally aired in November. In fact the phases of the moon through the mini-series matched the phases of the moon through the month of November in 2014, when Over the Garden Wall first aired. In chapter 2 you see some giant turkeys just roaming around. And later pulling a pumpkin cart being driven by Enoch The Cat.
In episode 3 Greg makes up the song "Potatoes and Molasses" which is mostly about how good mashed potatoes are when topped with molasses. This seems like an odd combination but the surreal setting is partly that of imagination and this could be how thanksgiving mashed potatoes with dark gravy looked to Greg.
The song was a homage to Shirley Temple's "Animal Crackers in my Soup." And the visual of the happy animals eating came from old Thanksgiving postcards among other things. You will also notice the fine Thanksgiving style food at at the inn in Chapter 4. In this chapter most of the characters are dressed like eighteenth century American colonists with some medieval European overtones. Admittedly colonial America often seemed like medieval Europe from an historical behavior perspective. In chapter 5, the banquet Quincey Endicott has laid out for the boys very much resembles a Thanksgiving supper.
In Chapter 7, we meet Lorna and Auntie Whispers, who are dressed in Puritan woman's clothing or Pilgrim woman's clothing inspired by traditional American Thanksgiving decorations. They even speak like seventeenth century colonists.
_____________________________ Christmas: First we have the antagonist known as The Beast, singing his song "Come Wayward Souls" which (creepily) is to the melody of O' Holy Night. Chapter 8 is entirely a homage to 1930s cartoons and makes subtle references to some old holiday animated shorts. The cherubs in Gregory's dream world were directly from vintage Christmas cards. The beautiful and atmospherically cold, wintery, scenes in chapter 10 are based on vintage Christmas postcards.
The original plan for the mini-series was that the boys would return to the "real world" on Christmas, but at the last second it was changed so that it seems they woke up on what was still Halloween night. I actually think it would have been better if they had woken up at Christmas. The only tell-tale sign that it is still Halloween is their friends are still in costume. If they had changed that one detail I would say it is Christmas. ______________________________________________ There. It's for these reasons that I feel that Over The Garden Wall is fit for all three holidays, though I'd personally watch it any time of year.

Pottsfield
youtube
Pottsfield - Over the Garden Wall
is a location that appears in Hard Times at the Huskin' Bee. The town is inhabited by pumpkin people who are later revealed to be skeletons with vegetables as clothing and pumpkins as heads. The leader of Pottsfield is Enoch , a giant pumpkin creature, who uses his powers to punish ones who do wrong to the village. The people of Pottsfield live in normal looking houses and seem to have large turkeys rather than horses to pull carts and wagons.
Pottsfield is surrounded by farmland that is growing corn, pumpkins and wheat. These fields are maintained by the citizens of Pottsfield. In the fields are several sheds and trails for the wagons. A basic fence is found on both sides of the trail that leads from the woods to Pottsfield.
Pumpkin peopleinhabit the town of Pottsfield and appear in "Hard Times at the Huskin' Bee". Pumpkin people are known to be farmers and to celebrate their harvests. The Pumpkin People are known to grow indian corn, wheat and pumpkins.
The pumpkin people were a big inspiration when creating my pumpkin headed doll.
