Metrical form: iambic tetrameter
Rhyme scheme: 6 stanzas of ABAB, then 2 stanzas of AABB
Other notes: There are some trochaic inversions (e.g. of love lying past any veil). Both meter and rhyme are regular for the first 6 stanzas, up to "A cupboard, larder, and the loo-". After this point, the rhyme scheme changes and the meter temporarily becomes irregular:
ā—” ā€“ / And you / ā—” ā€“ / ā—” ā€“ / ā—” ā€“ ā—” You all / lie there / together
This phrase, metrically a single tetrameter line, is broken up by a line break (emphasizing the repetition of you, the fact that it rhymes with loo in the previous line, and the tonal shift), and there is hypercatalexis (an extra syllable at the end of the line). The following line is also irregular, maintaining the tetrameter but with extra unstressed syllables and inversions:
ā—” ā€“ / ā—” ā—” ā€“ / ā€“ ā—” / ā—” ā€“ ā—” Memo/rialized, / birds of / a feather
After this, the meter becomes regular again but the new rhyme scheme continues.

How hard is archaeology? How often are major discoveries made? How competitive of a field is it?
Hi Nonny, thanks for the ask!
I feel like I should be clear up front here: Iā€™m only an archaeology student in the midst of my (very lengthy) undergrad, but Iā€™m willing to tell you what I know. The academic side of archaeology is often very rigorous; at least at my university, youā€™re expected to have a solid grasp of both theoretical and technical concepts and to be able to analyse papers and produce a lot of written work. I canā€™t speak too much about the field -- Iā€™ve only been on one dig and as a novice your job is to dig and scrape for hours on end. I love it, personally, but if you donā€™t like hard physical work fieldwork may not be your thing. Thatā€™s not to say archaeology isnā€™t for you -- thereā€™s museum or archival work too -- but the fieldwork side is a big part of archaeology.Ā
How often major discoveries are made really depends on what you define as a major discovery. The discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen is once in several generations, but there are smaller finds that donā€™t make the news as often that are nonetheless just as important. My dissertation supervisor, for instance, does a lot of really interesting work in the Mediterranean as a maritime archaeologist, and was part of a team that uncovered a type of ship that had only previously been known in ancient writings. A lot can be learned from even the smallest artefact.
Ā Archaeology is a competitive field, but I donā€™t think that should dissuade anyone from it. It is academic, and with that one gets the usual vagaries and nonsense of academia, but itā€™s also multidisciplinary, and I believe that the critical skills it teaches are applicable to anything, even if you donā€™t end up wishing to pursue archaeology further.
Iā€™ll tag some other archaeology blogs who might be able to give you some better ideas: @archaeologistproblems @chaotic-archaeologist @enkidusbiĀ
If anyone else has an archaeology blog, please comment so I can reblog!

do you have any recommendations for good archaeology focused tumblrs? every time I try and search the tag all I end up with is photos from museums and while those are pretty, I'm really after a more archaeologist makes bad jokes kinda vibe ??
Oh boy, Iā€™ll try to get everyone but I know Iā€™ll miss some. Feel free to reblog this if I didnā€™t tag you.
@midden-maiden @art-thropologist @archaicbookworm @buckets-of-dirt @anon-e-has-a-tmblr @sinovenatorchangii @archaeologistproblems @archaeo-geek @saintartemis @anthroaddict @bi-archaeologist @fixomnia-scribble @cousinnick @anthropologist-on-the-loose @enkidusbi @tarivin @tarantula-hawk-wasp
Those are just the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. Archaeology tumblr exists, you just have to... ahem... dig a little to find it.

Just queued a post from @enkidusbi that she reblogged from me and it made me realize that the mesopotamian academic community on here is so DAMN small, we're all just a dozen college students with no sleep schedule and Three(3) adults with full time jobs

Two truths, one lie
Thank you, @swanfloatieknight , for procrastinating and tagging me in so many of these :P
1. I stole a book from a bookshop near my university.
2. As a baby, I had black hair.
3. I stepped on a bird and it died.
I'll invite @capailleuisce , @lloerwyn , @screamingatanemptyroom , @enkidusbi and whoever wants to do this.

5 (you can take this to mean an actual ship, not a pairing of a characters, i know you like them. or it can mean both. whatever you feel like answering xdd) šŸ’›
5: Whatā€™s your favorite fictional ship? (Canon or otherwise)
I know Iā€™m preaching to the choir here, but my absolute favourite ship is the Uluburun, which for those of you who donā€™t know, the lovely @enkidusbi wrote up hereĀ and long story short (for those who arenā€™t Kam) is a Late Bronze Age trading vessel that was likely carrying kingly gifts (probably for diplomacy reasons) and sank off of Turkey around 1300 BC. Eric Cline, in his great book 1177 BC: The Year Civilisation Collapsed, suggested itā€™s possible that the amber and tin found in the Uluburun came from the Baltic and Afghanistan (respectively) which is just SO COOL.Ā
Thanks for the ask! :-)

tag...game?
Instructions: tag 10 followers that you want to get to know better
Gender: female
Star sign: Scorpio
Height: 1.64m (and not a cm smaller!)
Sexuality: Straight
Hogwarts House: RAVENCLAW (though one time I got Gryffindor. not a good day)
Favourite animals: Horses, Birds (especially birds of prey)
Average hours of sleep: 5-6 on normal days, 8-9 when my boyfriend is staying over (usually the weekends). Yes, itā€™s not healthy. No, I donā€™t really care.
Current time: almost lunchtime
Dogs or cats: Both; itā€™s difficult. I like dogs for their companionship and cats for their independence.
Number of blankets you sleep with: In spring and autumn I sleep with my normal blanket, in winter I sometimes use two, and in the middle of summer I tend to just use the cloth thing you put the blanket in. If I know there are gnats in my room, I crawl inside (my mum once said it looks like a body bag).
Dream job: Professor for German literature, not yet sure which exact discipline.
When I created this blog: Must have been 2018.
Follower count: Not many. Two active friends.
Why I made this blog: I just wanted a tumblr after seeing all the cool post-screenshots on Pinterest. I was planning on mostly posting original content, but I just gave up. Iā€™ve got another (very inactive) blog for that now.
How I came up with my URL: I googled some Irish words (the pretentious little kid in me went for stuff likeĀ ā€œstardustā€ andĀ ā€œqueenā€) and then modified one (I think it was ā€œkingā€ with some sort of addition. donā€™t ask). Itā€™s become my username for almost every social media platform.
Thanks to @swanfloatieknight for tagging me! Youā€™re the only one...
Iā€™ll tag @capailleuisce, @samis-side-of-the-story (if youā€™re still here), and ummm... I donā€™t really have any mutuals... so if @screamingatanemptyroom, @enkidusbi and @lloerwyn want to, they can do this :)

I was tagged by @enkidusbi -- thanks!
Tag 9 people you'd like to get to know better/catch up with!
Last Song:Ā John BarleycornĀ by Jim Moray. Because nothing screams ā€˜funā€™ like a ballad about murder and grain harvest.Ā
Currently reading: Nothing fun. My work is solely schoolwork now.Ā
Currently watching: Rewatching Schittā€™s Creek because itā€™s such a comfort show and I love all the characters.
Currently craving: A holiday. Iā€™ve had one week in the last year where I wasnā€™t studying or working (the two week quarantine when I went home last March does not count).Ā
Tagging:Ā You know who you are, and if you donā€™t and want to answer -- go ahead :-)Ā

Thank you to everyone who jumped on to my anonymous archaeology question yesterday! I tagged some people in the hopes that anon might go follow them too, but I appreciate you all taking the time to write out such great answers.Ā
Iā€™ll say this again: my askbox is always open, but please keep in mind I am only an undergraduate. I actually have a career as a mariner, and while I would love to pursue archaeology as my career I donā€™t necessarily have the best perspective on how to do it.Ā
So thank you, @enkidusbi, @chaotic-archaeologist, and @traffa! Iā€™m really grateful to you for taking the time to add your perspectives.Ā

Archaeologist tag meme
Tagged by @enkidusbiā€‹. Thanks!
Rules: repost, please for the love of god donā€™t reblog. Non-archaeologists are also welcome to participate!
What kind of trowel do you have: Spear and Jackson because itā€™s cheap and good. I want a Marshalltown, though, but thatā€™s simply because of the Golden Marshalltown (Flannery 1982).Ā
Area of expertise: Hopefully maritime archaeology. Iā€™ve spent the last two years of my life working in the maritime industry and I love being on the water.Ā
Preferred drink in the field:Ā Sparkling water, but Iā€™m not so prissy as to turn my nose up at regular water.Ā
Tool that you have that no one else seems to have but should:Ā Leatherman. I havenā€™t been on a dig in (gasp) four years, but itā€™s a good tool to have when youā€™re working outdoors.Ā
How long have you had your current pair of field boots: My steel-toes are less than a year old because in my day job you wear through them fast, but my dig boots are eight years old.Ā
Preferred music to dig to: Silence.Ā
Favorite piece of archaeology related media:Ā The Mummy (1999). Tomb Raider (2013).Ā
Dream place to excavate: Somewhere hot and dry, like the Middle East.
Favorite artifact that youā€™ve handled: An early Romano-British drinking cup that would have been used for a baby.Ā
Tagging anyone who wants to join!
